20 Best Waterer For Ducks (2022 Updated)

Although the water was installed per the directions provided we are trouble getting the water level adjusted, water starts dripping over the lip. We have adjusted the float a number of times attempting to set the level approximately 1 inch below the lip but when come each morning the water is once again dripping over the lip.

I sure we will eventually get it adjusted. I just hope its not bad float level bulb.

Easy to install and a great solution for water in place of hauling buckets. You can drill a drain hole in the bottom for easier cleaning, but the plug provided isn’t very useful. Also, the water coming through the float comes through the tiniest hole – so for those with hard water it may get clogged.

You have to disassemble it completely to clear the clog.

I have bought just about every single type of automatic waterer that’s out there. I’ve bought the one with the toilet type float at the bottom of the bucket. This one is great until you get a lot of algae and it builds up inside of of the float.

It’s impossible to open it up and then put all the pieces back inside. There is one with plastic cover over the float that comes in 2 parts. This ends up curling up after a little while in the sun and it starts to fall apart.

This one has a metal float cover and it has lasted the longest. I have one that is going on 8yrs continuous usage. It’s still going strong. It was the easiest to assemble right out of the box. I’ve learned to use the dishwasher type of hose to extend the end from the plastic pvc pipe.

This gives you the ability to dump the bucket over when you clean it out. I’ve also learned that any holes in the bucket is an opportunity for the plastic to break and leak out the water inside. Each time you take the plug out to clean and tighten it back when you’re done stresses the plastic out.

Over time it will crack and break. To sum this up this is the best one on the market. Good quality plastic and easy to follow instructions to setup with ease.

Young chickens took a while to start using. During first week it rained heavy. Water somehow got into to base of feeder and hence pellets went to mush and blocked feeder. Need a funnel to fill quickly otherwise even by cup some drop outside.

I think both these problems common to all similar feeders though. Chickens do use watering feeder but prefer my open tubs. I guess they will get used to. Both solid and generally weatherproof. I previously had one of those green white hanging feeders that are common but the plastic became very brittle.

These appear UV stabilised 100mm hdpvc so very tough and UV resistant.

The double waterer works well but gets dirty and needs a flush out every week or so. However the feeder with four small dividing channel tends to clog up with the leftoever powdery feed after just one refill so needs clearing couple times a week compared to dineachook type.

Quality is fantastic and my chickens have taken to the feeder within 2 to 3 days. Much less wastage which is great with picky chickens. The chickens still have not worked out the water tube though and I think the buoyancy weight needs too much pressure to release more water unfortunately.

So my chickens may not end up using the water tube which is a pain for me.

I have been using these fountains for some years now and they work wonderfully. I had nice 5 and 3 gallon fountains and I made the mistake of putting vinegar in the chickens water. DO NOT PUT VINEGAR IN THESE FOUNTAINS!! It will make them rust.

I should have known better. Anyway, these are eggcellent fountains. Highly recommend. It was shipped promptly, too. I received it within a week of ordering.

I absolutely love the way this waterer functions. The suction is snug abs it holds a lot of water. I am disappointed how quickly it started losing its coating. The water started getting an orange hue only 6 month after using it.

I put nothing in my water. I took the risk of surviving thru the winter so now after only 8 months of using this brand new galvanized waterer and pricey base I need to buy something new. Having bought the base, I feel like I need to buy another metal waterer but I feel like I really want to just buy an electric plastic waterer.

Disappointed and unsure.

I do love these water fountains. They are very good quality and easy to clean. They don’t leak water like other ones I have tried. I made the mistake of adding vinegar to my five gallon water fountain and it rusted badly 🙁 So don’t ever add vinegar to the water when using a galvanized steel water fountain.

I found that out the hard way.

I have bought 2 of these now and would not recommend buying this. It is hard to get apart to fill and to get back together. The first one I bought just started running water all over, never did figure out why, the second one I bought, I broke the top trying to get it put back together, so then it leaked also.

Now using a small one for baby chicks as it screws together very easy, but it is small.

Easy to fill as it has feet that it stands on when upside down (set on pavement, not dirt). The wide opening makes it easy to clean the inside. As with any plastic item there may be small burrs (mold flash) left over from manufacture, trim any that prevent it from closing.

Test fit BEFORE filling it the first time. The chickens have no problem with it. Seems to be a good design, the bowl is deep enough to prevent overflowing when the warm afternoons heat up the air in the bottle and cause more water to come out.

Some brands will overflow every day.

Using it to water my honeybees. Filled the tray with gravel, just high enough to avoid any pools they could drown in. Looks like a good solution to the problem of providing a safe water supply that will not run out if I’m away for a couple of weeks.

Only issue: Tray was a little misshapen on arrival and flanges wouldn’t line up. Filled tray with boiling water to make it malleable, connected it to the bucket then without difficulty; shape maintained after cooling.

Would definitely recommend this item.

I’ve been raising Free Range Poultry for 15 years and have used every double walled fount and plastic drinkers from most manufacturers. I decided to try these out as I had never heard of Harris Farms and they look just like the Little Giant double wall founts that have been in use for generations.

I purchased three of them and have had them in continual use for about a year. I am pleased to share that they are not rusting “yet”. They fit well and I find the trough area to be plenty rigid. These are good for chickens of all breeds, sizes and ages.

Baby Chicks may be tempted to step IN the trough and “could” get caught, soaked and drown. Becuase of that, I suggest NOT using these for starter chicks. You could fill the trough with marbles to prevent little ones from falling in, but not suitable as is.

Metal founts like this one are necessary if you plan to sit your drinker on the galvanised heaters, the metal conducts the heat properly to keep water from freezing in winter. My only complaint about this style of drinker is that when you are filling it up, the small stopper that is attached to the spring clip does not prevent water from running out while filling before putting the top back over the base.

I did not take a star for that because I haven’t found a double wall found that does not have that problem. Remember that when it is full, you will be carrying 40 lbs. consider cleaning it out and putting it where you want it and filling it in place.

I think one 5 gl drinker like this is suitable for 12 adult chickens, but two are always better, chickens may guard or chase lower status birds away from food and water, having two drinkers can make sure all birds will get access.

I do recommend this drinker!.

It’s well made, but it has to be PERFECTLY level for the water not to drip out one side or the other when you fill it and fit the top in place. I live in the mountains, and there are very few level places.

Also, I ordered two of them, and one came dented up. They were thrown in a box with a piece of brown packing paper strewn on top of them. Hardly a professional packaging job. I would not buy these again, as they were quite pricey.

Super durable double wall construction this thing is a beast. Not ever the wildest hen coupe will destroy this water drinker. Great construction!

I purchased these cups not knowing if they would work for my ducks but I thought anything was worth a try after continuously having to refill their water and clean up a huge mess. My 4 Pekin’s were wasting more water than they were actually drinking.

These cups are deep enough and allow them to dip their beak and clear their nostrils without all the spillage!.

They were easy to install. They work wet. I wonder how long they will last though.

Purchased this in a hurry recently, after buying many nipple buckets in the past. This Little Giant has 2 major design flaws. First the brackets that hold the bucket to a wall or fence rail are not installed when you buy it.

You will have to install them yourself which requires drilling holes into the bucket, lining up the brackets and screwing them together. Waste of 30 minutes, every other bucket I have purchased in the past came with the bracket installed already.

Also the nipple design requires that you unscrew two different plastic nuts to take apart and clean. Other makers only have one plastic nut to disassemble. Very clunky and poorly designed. Save your money and purchase the Fortiflex nipple bucket.

I have used these fountains for many years. They are really trouble free, which makes them a reliable water source for your animals. They are easily adjustable for the water height in the bowl, and are made of the finest quality materials.

These fountains will last for years. And replacement parts are readily available. With just a quick twist of the brass collar, you can remove the bowl from the valve for a quick rinse. Then just twist it back on and the bowl will quickly fill up and you’re ready to go.

The only issue I’ve had is that if you have high mineral content water, there may be a scale build up on the brass parts. But, it is easily dealt with by occasional cleaning. This model #2500 bowl is what I use for fancy pigeons, but it will handle chickens, and most mid-sized poultry.

We installed a pressure reducer, tried all levels of drip on the adjuster spring, and made sure it is hanging levelly. It leaks. It doesn’t shut off due to gravity as intended. I would not recommend.

I’m pretty happy with this purchase. I did switch out the cups for chicken nipples, since the cups will freeze in cold weather, but that was super easy and I already had extra nipples on hand. I attached this to the outside of my coop, with the nipples on the inside of the wire, and stuck a fish tank heater inside.

I’m in Chicago and the water hasn’t frozen yet so I am pretty happy with this setup as it is easy to fill/refill and check the water level, without taking up precious floor space in the small coop for my bantams.

A great pre-made chicken waterer, easy to clean! Upgraded from the hanging circle type. Water inside never gets slimey like a regular water, making this very sanitary for your birds. Cups are easy to dump if any shavings get into them.

Comes with the a hanging hook option, but we use it sitting directly on the ground for our 5 chickens. We rinse/fill once a week. Very satisfied with my purchase.

Love this waterer! I have arthritis s this is so much easier for me. However, unless you have ducks, will need to replace the cups as some chickens cannot depress hard enough to refill.

I purchased the Royal Rooster Single Water Drinker for my four chickens and it has been such a stress free time saver. My girls took to it straight away and I could finally throw out the little dish of water that they kept filling with grit, dirt, food and poop.

Honestly, I was filling and checking their water three times a day; now I fill it and leave it for weeks. A simple peek into the lid now and then will tell you if it needs topping up, which isn’t very often.

Love the feeder and double water drinker! and so do my chooks! They figured them out really quickly & it saves me having to get up so early in the morning! Makes it easier also for my neighbours to look after them if Im away.

Less work for all of us, and the local pigeons etc cant reach the feed, so no more freeloaders!, and the feed doesnt go everywhere now either, so no more waste. Exy but well worth it. A hundred times better than the cheap round plastic feeder & drinker I had previously.

Easy to put together. Our birds immediately took to them. I love that i can add ice to their water during the day and keep the water cool during our heat wave. Good little product! We did have one that was leaky, but swapped it out and works like a charm!.

So far functional and install was significantly better than cheaper red versions on Walmart. com. Nice robust nut design that you can tighten up enough to actually seal the oring type seal to container.

It has a float in the bowl this works better with .Also works great with chickens that do not learn how to use the water floats.

We bought this because our last watering can finally hit the dust. Sadly, after two weeks of messing with it and every day filling it up we could not get it to hold water. Followed directions, twisted it all the way, not too tight, some time we would try tighter as tight as we could.

We did a lot of testing different methods. And when we put it down it would be full and the next day it would be empty. I don’t think 7 little chickens were drinking that much water. So it is a shame we couldn’t get it to work after much testing.

Maybe we have a bad one. Who knows.

I purchased two of these about 2 months ago. One seemed to work pretty good and the other leaked from the start. The other day, I had water everywhere. Lid was tight, but it just kept running out. Also there is a “notch” in the spout on one, where water leaks out even when sealed up.

They seem sturdy and I had high hopes as they are made in USA. Another feature that I don’t care for (but could overlook if they worked well) is that the trough is so large (and awkward shaped – takes up a lot of room in the chicken house) that it takes about 1/2 gallon just to fill up, it fills too high and has to be perfectly level or it will overflow.

Perfectly level is hard to do in a chicken house, but I did accomplish this and don’t have trouble with my other similar waterers. These are pricey and I hate that I don’t have the option to return these at this point.

I’m just out $75.

I have had the 7 gallon waterer for over a year. Have a flock of 11 and it lasts me over 7 days. With a metal base heater in the winter no issues with freezing so far (have located in covered, plastic wrapped, chicken run).

Only issue I have had is once losing the small black cap (there is a “holder” at the top of the unit). Purchased replacements from fleet farm for future. Plan to purchase a second waterer for when we go on vacation in February.

Easy to clean. Highly recommend.

The hose and the plastic adapter that it screws into last maybe 1-yr before the brass fittings corrode and leak. The white plastic adapters are too soft and easily strip out. I’m on my 5th waterer because I can’t find a source to buy just the adapters and hoses.

This is the second waterer we’ve bought for our animals. We bought the second one to work a different part of our land. It works great and it’s easy to maintain. Great product.

bought this awesome waterer for my goat pen. The plastic female threaded part connect to the waterer will not keep the hose attached. The pleasure of the water will blow off the hose, and you come out to find the water has been running all day long on the ground, and flooded the pen.

Poor design. why would you expect a plastic fitting to hold the metal hose end. I will now have to disassemble and return, as its no use to me like it is.

I have two chickens. Works perfectly for what I need. The only problem I ran into was my chickens didn’t recognize their new waterer. They didn’t drink out of it all day. When I got home they rushed up to me making quite a ruckus.

When I went inside the house they started flying into my windows- kind of like a horror movie. I decided something must be wrong. I put out their old waterer and they drank from it. The next day I tried the new waterer again.

This time I threw meal worms into the water tray. They went for the meal worms and discovered water. Now they use it just fine and I don’t have nightmares of chickens flying at me.

I bought this poultry waterer so that I could have 2 waterers and switch back and forth and therefore, not have to make multiple trips out to the chicken coop in freezing weather. I thought this waterer was a bit larger than it really is but it’ll work for what I need it for.

I like that the base is easy to screw on and off. It’s easier than my other waterer for sure. But the thing that I wish I’d paid better attention to is the fact that it has no handle for carrying and if you carry it by the base, it may come apart as it did for me.

It makes carrying two things at the same time difficult. But because it’s only 1 gallon, it’s not that heavy. So far, it is holding up well but I’ve only had it for about 2 weeks.

We have used this type watered for our chickens for over 20 years c and we occasionally have to replace them. We have used numerous other types of water contained but always go back to this one. It is the best!.

The waterer has a long cord. Because the lid lifts off the top, it is easy to refill. The handle has a notch so it can be suspended with stability. There are three nipples surrounded by a red fitting.

Our older chickens more easily learned how to peck at the metal pin which is pushed back to release water. They learned easily because they’re comfortable with me and didn’t hesitate to peck at the waterer in my presence.

However, our younger poults aren’t comfortable with me so it was difficult to teach them. I thought if I taught one, the rest would follow but in this case, it didn’t work. I’ll reintroduce the waterer back to the poults once they’re more comfortable with me.

This product is amazing I’m so glad I purchased it. Last night it was -20 and we’ve had several days below below zero prior to that with no end in sight!! The chicken water was not frozen!! JOY. there wasn’t even a piece of ice on the three little drinking ports.

Been raising chickens since 2007 so wish I’d done this sooner. It’s wonderful to not have to change out chicken waterers daily. It’s a peace of mind to know my birds have water when they need it. And I won’t have to buy any more replacements because frigid temperatures froze and cracked the previous kind often.

Highly recommend this to anyone who raises chickens in the city or on their farm the 2 gallon size is nice as well.

I live in one of the snowiest places in the country and we get some very cold days with sub-zero temperatures. Prior to getting the heated waterer, I had to bring out a new bucket of water every day because it was frozen solid.

Now, I refill it once a week and it hasn’t froze once. My chickens were used to drinking from bucket nipples, so this was an easy transition. I just showed them the metal nipple and how it produces water.

A couple pecked at it, and that was all it took for the rest to learn. VERY happy so far.

Brilliant water dispenser solid built and robust also the dish is at the perfect height for them to drink. Was the largest water dispenser I could find and holds enough for my 25 rescue hens as its solid they cant knock it over.

Its not run out during the day yet but there is no window in the tank and the tank is white so unable to see the water line. That would be my only slight criticism.

The Kerbl Poultry Drinker is strong, sturdy and stable. Well made. Easy to put together. Good tap mechanism. Brilliant for chickens!

This is a great product, but it must be on completely level ground, or your water will run out constantly. Once thats achieved, its perfect.

We’ve been using these for years and swear by them. They last for years and work reliably.

My chicks love using this and I was expecting to throw water over myself as it was quite stiff but it’s actually just as easy as the feeder

This is an excellent size.

In the concept this trough is practical. Just take the bonbone to fill it. The plastic looks good. The main problem is that it leaks permanently, suddenly the tank empties quickly. Can not leave it open without the water running continuously.

If there is a trick that interests me.

There is no photograph or illustration provided of the working insides of the waterer. When I opened the waterer I realized a very basic pumping mechanism, akin to a toilet pump, was inside the waterer.

Try as I could, I could not adjust this pump to stop at any point and the waterer overflowed repeatedly. In addition, I did not realize that the only 2 options were to bolt the unit to a foundation or put 300 lbs of sand (!) into the base of the waterer.

The instructions were woefully deficient with respect to directions to adjust the pump. I returned the waterer for a refund.

The EZFOUNT Waterer looks exactly like the picture. It was easy to install and my horses took to it right away. I am so happy I do not have to continually dump my tubs of water to clean every other day.

This waterer is easy to clean and you do not waste as much water when you have to pull the plug and let the water out. I have also ordered the measuring instrument that measures the amount of water the horses are drinking which has not arrived yet.

I am curious to see how much water my horses drink every day.

I finally got it connected. My horse and miniatures adapted to it quickly. I don’t agree with their claim that it won’t freeze. I’ve had to break ice from it twice after freezing temps overnight. Maybe if enough livestock drank from it often it might not freeze in the bowl.

But I am really enjoying not have to refill a water trough and cleaning this will definitely be easier.
