20 Best Waterproof Fireproof Safe (2022 Updated)

My primary problem is the fragility of this “safe” in conjunction with the thin packaging and the unit’s weight. It’s pretty heavy for what it is, and I admittedly made a fatal error: I did not immediately and closely inspect it on arrival, beyond a cursory check from the top because the box was pristine.

When I took it out to use it (I bought this in December of 2017, so there’s no point in putting in a claim), the top fell off; the locking mechanism was bent out of true, and the hinges- two flimsy plastic caps with springs- were sprung and deformed beyond reassembly.

The interior tray was cracked, and the body of the safe was split at the right rear corner. I would never expect this to survive a fire- during which structures often collapse- without similar failures.

A thief with a hammer could also open this in seconds, so it doesn’t provide any significant security beyond its elephantine weight.

Great product. I trust the fire/flood specifications. Neutral color is fine with me. Easy unlatching and unlocking. Instructions say to open the heavy lid fully, to activate the hydraulic closer and prevent smashed fingers etc.

Dimensions perfect for legal-size documents (plus a bit – ~11¾”x14¾” – for passports etc. ) , and the recess in underside of the lid gives increased capacity. I needed it all. Overdue purchase! [Now I need to do more shredding though.

] Very heavy but frankly ATM thieves are not my main concern, fire and flooding are. I recommend highly it if you have personally important documents.

The safe opens and closes easily with the two copies of the provided key. Only holds about the equivalent of a ream of paper in interior space, perhaps a little more. I was able to fit only a few file folders’ worth of documents, but it’s adequate for my needs.

Box was torn during shipping, but the safe only had a small scratch.

The safe is good and does what it should, but one big disappointment for me was the quality of the lever and combination lock. The feel was so plasticky and flimsy. The opening lever/handle had such a weak plastic and bendable feeling that the images were so misleading.

The safe is built like a tank, but the knobs are built like a Fischer Price toy. I used Master Lock combination locks in the 1990s and they used to feel much stronger, now they feel like a pool toy. Sentry Safe needs to revamp this detail and make it match the quality and sturdiness of the rest of the safe.

I haven’t tested the safe in God forbid fire or water, but I’m counting on its reliability in the event one of those things happen. Sadly the knob and combination would likely just melt off.

Wonderful safe. There is a brooding intensity just underneath the surface of this menacing obstacle. It’s heavy glare is enough to ward away prey. The safe behaves towards your common petty thief like a pair of gauntly bent witch clutches, preventing anyone from snatching away or getting at what lies beneath its firm grip.

The combination dial is a devastating blow to the townspeople who were looking forward to a public boiling. The handle gives way to stubbornness, permitting only those who wear the correctly numbered talisman to enter into the inner sanctum.

Suppose you follow all the sacred rites to a T and perform many enchantments; good luck conjuring a powerful enough arcon to aid you getting passed that additional lock that some of these safes come with.

And that’s if you can even cast a bright enough spell of illumination to stamp out the consuming, dark energy field the outer shell is incased in. In all my years, I have come across many safes. But I have never come across a safe so hexed with devious trickery that includes a large storage capacity, and all for a reasonable price.

This Sentry safe at this price range is not foolproof (I suppose not many are) but is intended to deter theft. I purchased the safe with the combination mechanical lock to avoid problems with the loss of battery life in the digital lock that I read in some reviews.

The mechanical lock operates smoothly. The instructions were clear and nothing was missing from the package. I bolted down the safe unto the concrete floor with the kit provided in the box (highly recommended to keep it in place).

This is an easy job for any do it yourselfer with the right tools. The safe key adds another layer of protection. If you use the key you still need the combination number to open it. The inside of the safe is adequate.

If I had one criticism is that the rubber lever looks flimsy but the mechanism does have a clutch to prevent breakage or damage. Tip: buy and add additional anti-moisture packages. I recommend this product.

We like the safe. Wish it was a tad bigger but the next size up was more than we needed. Easy to program. Comes with a locking plastic drawer which can easily be broken into, but they would have to bust into the safe first.

Wish is just had a couple of shelves instead of the drawer. Would be extra security if the safe had locking pins on both sides of the door instead of just the left side. Don’t know how hard it would be for a burglar to bust off the digital keypad and then unlock the mechanism from the inside, or if that is even possible.

Would be nice if the lever was metal. The plastic lever seems flimsy for a safe. One review said their safe rusted. Hopefully this one won’t. The manual said their is moisture in the fireproof insulation, so that is a concern.

Will have to be sure to open the safe every couple of weeks like it recommends to help control the humidity inside, which seems like it will be kind of a nuisance. However, for the price of the safe and for the quality of Master locks I have had, it will hopefully last and it seems like a good value.

Time will tell. Much cheaper than First Alert safes which we also considered.

I am so happy with my decision to purchase a SentrySafe! It has high ratings for being fireproof and waterproof. The digital combination was easy to program. It’s great to be able to program a second code so an additional family member can have access in emergencies.

An interior light can be programmed for 30 or 60 seconds. Plenty of time to move documents in and out. This uses 4 AAA batteries for the digital combination and the interior light, which are accessible from the outside of the safe.

There is plenty of room for file folders, a separate key locking removable tray inside, and hooks on the inside of the door along with a pocket for passports and smaller flat items. This is a wonderful alternative to paying for a safety deposit box at a bank, along with the fact you can have access any time! I would definitely recommend this purchase.

The safe arrived timely and as expected. The product itself is clearly of the highest caliber and other than my own error is getting it set up, it is exactly what we needed and wanted. I managed to mismatch the AAA batteries and apparently a couple were dead.

so initially I couldn’t get the electronic lock to work. I called the Sentry help number and other than a bit of a wait (30 min), the technician was very helpful, kind and patient with me while I went to get some other batteries.

Once newer batteries were installed, the lock worked perfectly. My compliments to the technician as he went above and beyond answering a couple of questions re; protection offered from fire. We live 5-6 miles from the Bloomfield, CO wildfire that occurred on Dec.

30, and although the safe will not protect in an inferno of such proportions, it just makes sense to do what we can to protect our valuables. Thank you.

Most safes are not combination. I did not want to worry about a battery or power source. After spending a lot of time reading about small combination safes on the market, I decided on the Sentry Safe which also has good fire and waterproof features which also was a priority.

Just got the safe, but I am very pleased with the safe. Very easy to get in with the combination. Nice to have a back up key. Only complaint is the condition of the box when it arrived. The packing was good but there was a hole in the side of the box.

It ended up being ok, but it’s hard to quickly check a 125 lb safe when it is delivered.

This is my third house where I have bought and installed a Sentry Safe. Obviously I have had good experiences in the past to repeat the purchase. However this one was bought online. Didn’t realize it was a dial combination to open.

I’m fine with the method however the dial is plastic and was difficult to open as the dial kept snagging and did not spin smoothly. I had to put some force behind it and was afraid it was going to break it.

I came close to calling customer service as I thought perhaps it was already locked and the keys were inside. Walked away from it for a while and did another round of attempts to open the door and finally got it to work.

Not loving the plastic dial. Wonder if I’ll encounter the same challenge sometime in the future.

This was a replacement for another safe. Opted to choose a traditional dial combination lock; electronic/keypad system failed on the other safe, making it a giant doorstop. The lock system is easy to use; the addition of a key to supplement the combination was a nice feature.

The construction of the safe is very solid with heavy grade materials. The interior is vary spacious and with additional trays (purchased separately), organizing items is simple. The UL rating for the safe was good enough for my needs, with the hope that it never needs to be tested.

Overall, the size, price, and quality of components made the decision easy.

The safe is beautiful and the internal lighting works great. It’s a slight improvement from my previous safe which was destroyed in a fare. It survived but getting it opened after the fire destroyed it and only a few items inside were distorted.

There was smoke damage, but the real foe was water from the FD. The locksmith had to destroy the safe to open it. And it cost $2k to open it. It did take him over 2 hours in the rain and he knew what he was doing.

So I feel my stuff is safe. Now for shipping and delivery. The safe was dented top and bottom. They didn’t take care of it because it was a 300lb safe. They figured they couldn’t harm it. Wrong. The box was damaged and I opened it before he left, it wasn’t until I got it completely opened that I saw the damage.

If you order one for delivery, I would expect the same handling. Not much I can do about it now. If I go through another delivery, I risk the same handling and just a delay in protecting my stuff.

Arrived quickly and in perfect condition. My delivery driver was excellent! The off white color is beautiful (matches my baseboards, which is important when selecting a safe ☺️). Really easy to program and plenty of room for my needs.

Only complaint is the chemical smell (of the interior carpet I guess?) I threw some baking soda in there to see if it will absorb the funk. Love the interior light! I don’t have a nearby outlet, so the interior power is a bust unless I move it.

I was the “helper”, so moving it was easy. I just pointed and paused contemplatively until it was perfect!.

Very disappointed when I near broke my back to get the safe to my home to find out the lock is frozen. The key won’t turn to open the door, and I got support on the phone to tell me it may need greasing.

Grease the lock and it still won’t turn. Worthless if you can’t initially get the door open with the key, you can’t put the battery in for the digital lock combo. So now I have 100lb safe that doesn’t work.

The support guy hasn’t returned my email yet asking for further assistance. I’m mad.

It’s a fantastic safe, I’ve had it for over a year now. It is starting to leak in random spots and the liquid coming out of the metal has a strong metallic smell, I don’t know if that’s safe. And around the safe are pieces of brown metallic smelling pieces of the dried liquid.

I might need customer service to help me with that. Other than that, I love the safe and wish they had a bigger one. I use this to store important documents and narcotics.

Locks seem sturdy, however handle is plastic. Safe is heavy. Plenty of room for documents and paperwork. We haven’t secured it yet so can’t comment on ease of installation. Hope to never have to test the fire and water safety features.

Price is right and would definitely recommend it for home use.

I purchased this safe, of course, to secure docs,etc. , noticed right off the bat that it was difficult to depress lever to open. Within a week it jammed up on me, panic set in b/c I could’nt open it to save my soul even had a neighbor friend help me out.

Well, tried a bit of WD40 and that seemed to do the trick until the next time which was approximately a week later. Jammed shut could not open the safe, I was able to pry a screwdriver between the lid and base and with a lot of force I was able to open the safe, unfortunately broke the entire locking mechanism.

At this point I’m a bit angry b/c I carried this up floor flight of stairs by myself, yes, I’m a woman and yes it was very heavy! In desperate need of another type of safe, back to Home Depot I go this time I purchase a larger mechanical combination model# SFW123DTB, this time I employed my brother to carry this 86lb safe up the stairs.

I returned the broken safe back to Home Depot for a full refund. Additionally, yes, I attempted several times to contact sentry safe thru their customer service number on their website which does not work and the other number ending in 1438.

I waited over an hour and half on hold listening to some nice calming music before hanging up. Currently, I’m really pleased with the different model, no issues, easy to open and close.

I got this for my important documents and liked that it fit file folders to keep everything organized. It was the perfect size to fit in a small space. However, after just a few months, the lock became stuck and wouldn’t push up to unlatch.

Nothing was stuck and even tried when it was empty… the lock was still stuck and we couldn’t open it. Currently, I was able to take out my documents but now it’s stuck shut and the pop latch won’t open.

I’ve had this less than a year and opened it maybe once a month. Having this break so early on was a waste of money especially since the entire mechanism is plastic.

Not too happy. Needed to replace a small (18 pound) steel box purchased more than 50 years ago for “fire resistance” In retrospect, not truly fire resistant in same sense, but sufficient for my purposes.

Sentry closest replacement – other similar had zippers as part of closure system (and they tend to break as well as not fire resistant). In order to get “handles” had to get water resistant model (which did not need and substantially increased weight.

I find that the handles are not really handles – more like protrusions which can be used to lift box. In addition, as I keep the box on the floor, it is awkward to access the lock – my prior lock was on top of the box.

Compared to my old box, this one is (understandably because of true fire resistance) heavier, bulkier and seems a bit smaller interior with somewhat greater overall size – understandable because of the insulation, etc.

Although I had to check yes or no for recommendation so I checked yes, it would be with reservations becasue of the awkward access to the lock and the poor handles.

I bought one of these last week, and was just reading over the so-called “limited warranty. ” It’s limited, all right. The fine print of User Guide specifically states that “. the warranty does not cover Acts of God, such as fire, flood, earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes.

” I ask you, are these not the very things that you would want to protect your valuables from in a “Waterproof Fire Chest”? These exclusions were not mentioned in the product description. I suspect this disclaimer is used in all such Honeywell safes, so buyer beware.

As others have said, it’s also very heavy — and this is the light one!.

I purchased this case primarily to hold my ‘hard to replace’ documents and to protect them from possible fire or water damage. Although I have not had the misfortune to actually test the effectiveness of the case under those conditions, I can say that it is built sturdy and is of good quality.

It is heavy to carry if you need to move it, but that should be expected for the protection it offers. I like the fact that I can hold letter and legal size documents in the case without having to bend them.

The only thing I don’t care for, and it’s not a big concern for me, is that you can’t remove the key in the unlocked position. If you want to shut the case and remove the key, you must lock it. Having this case saves me from the inconvenience of renting a safety deposit box at my banking institution and having limited access to my documents.

Overall, for the price and the fire protection function, I’m happy with the purchase.

If you choose to store delicate items such as jewelry with working parts (?), watches, stamps or photos, we recommend putting them in an airtight contatiner, prior to placing them in the product for storage.

NOTE: SentrySafe will not be responcible for any damage or loss of items placed in the unit due to moisture. I found it very interesting as for waterproof safe. After that I have a question to CanTire: you put a sign “tested” near the product’s photo on the website, how did you test it? could you show the results? what are the holes iside the body in the bottom and in the cover? they are not through but looks suspicious.

it looks like only one manufacture is present in Canada with such kind of product who clames it is fire- and waterprood. As for me one more sentimeter wider would be better. well, one more remark – such items as firearms, othe weapons, combustible materials and medication should not be stored in this unit.

what is this “unit” for? Using spying technics and demanding to remove ad-blockers is not good – Canadian Tire.

The size of it will fit documents, but not larger documents flat without folding them (i. e. birth certificate, funeral paperwork, etc). I don’t mind the weight, I don’t move it around much. I do wish the key hole was a little more intimidating.

It looks like you could pick the lock with a paper clip. Not that I’m complaining. It TOTALLY serves the purpose that I bought it for. It’s a good product! :).

I bought this at my local Canadian Tire. The safe is well made and heavy duty. I hope never to put it to practice but it appears to be ready to survive a fire. I would recommend.

First Alert 2087F-BD Waterproof and Fire-resistant Bolt-down Combination Safe Is a pretty decent safe. It has plenty of storage space for my needs a. 94 cubic feet. Its handle and dial feels sturdy and doesn’t have a lot of play in it.

The best feature is the key when you are in a hurry and just don’t have time to do the combo. It is nice to have a 1700 degree one-hour fire rating and the waterproofing up to eight inches submerged is also a nice feature.

The floor bolt is also easy to install and gives that extra bit of protection. At 80+ pounds a thief isn’t going to run far carrying that much weight if they can get it off the floor to begin with. I feel confident that this safe is sturdy enough to hold my valuables and documents that I need to keep safe.

I would highly recommend this safe to anyone who has anything that they value, that they would like to keep safe at home. First alert is a brand that I do trust.

I just gotta say, this safe is Godly amazing. I love this thing. I use this to hide snacks from my kids because those Little critters always go to my room and take my snacks and eat them. I hate it when I come home from a really long day of work and I get upset I don’t have anything to snack on.

Since I have weird kids that love my snacks whenever I am at work. Damń kids. But when I went to OfficeMax, I saw this safe, I was like “This might be a great safe to put my snacks in!” I bought this safe and it was a really good deal.

I put my favorite snacks like pringles, crackers, candy and special chocolate I got from my granny. My kids yelled at me where the snacks at and I was like “They are in a safe place. Go eat something healthy kids.

” At first they found out the snacks are in the safe and try to break it open. But luckily it was fire safe, water safe and definitely kids safe. I had no issues! Now I just got to make sure they don’t figure out where I hide the key and which key it is.

I have only opened this “water/fire proof” safe maybe a dozen times over 2 years. Noticed a very strong mold smell coming from my most important documents that have been stored inside and Upon further inspection I found two faults in the safe near the hinges.

The cracks are so wide while the safe is sitting open (under its own weight) that I can see the insulation. The cracks travel under the seal, effectively making it as moisture/fireproof as any other random box.

The box has never traveled, nor has it been abused. It has only ever been stored in a closet without anything on or under it. This is a major disappointment as this safe wasn’t exactly inexpensive. It failed at it’s one purpose; keeping my valuables safe and secure.

I thought this was a good safe. I’ve owned it for probably 10 years. Today I went to open it, unlocked it and pull on the plastic handle, and it fell off. Then, I discovered, the only thing locking it was the plastic handle.

So, without the plastic handle attached, it would open whether it was locked or unlocked. Then I started thinking, if this safe was in a fire, the plastic handle would melt, leaving it able to open. I’ve been trusting my secure documents in this safe for years.

Not the case anymore. Shame on Sentry Safe for advertising a fire/waterproof safe that leads buyers in to believing their documents are safe, when in reality, they are not. Do not buy this product!.

The size and weight of this safe is quite impressive, and would lead me to believe that it would and could deliver on its promise to protect documents from fire and water damage. It’s great for irreplaceable documents or photos and things like deeds, titles, wills, etc.

However, you should be aware that, according to the instructions, you must open the safe once per week for at least 30 minutes to prevent the build up of moisture. Otherwise you will run the risk of trapping moisture inside the safe.

Also, if you are buying a safe to prevent theft, I would say there are better choices. This safe is really designed to prevent fire and water damage, not to prevent theft. It ultimately depends on what you need the safe to protect.

The safe is just what I wanted: a simple and safe way to store a small number of important documents and protect them from fire and water damage. We have social security cards, passports, birth certs, marriage cert, and key pages from our trust document in there.

I saw an online review complaining about it not being safe from burglars. That’s not the point though: it’s meant for safety from fire and water. And for that, it appears to do the job well. I actually prefer something that doesn’t look like it’s containing valuables! 🙂 Overall, I’m very happy with the product so far.

Hopefully, we won’t have to use it. One other point: I didn’t realize until after I had purchased it that we get a free replacement if it’s damaged in a fire, if you have registered it. So, we promptly registered it.

I love the size for the documents I have. The fire/water protection seems adequate for my needs. I’m a little worried about the lock mechanism. The long lever to open the latch is misleading. The latch will open if the entire latch is lifted up but not if the end is lifted up by itself.

At first I thought the lock would not release. This would be perfect if the lock/ open mechanism worked easier.

This box had all of the things I was looking for, fireproof, waterproof, able to fit flat papers, and portable. Seems very sturdy and the lock works well. Pretty heavy which is what you need. Closes pretty tightly and holds well.

I bought this safe with (in store pick up ) Ok sounds good it was a great deal and I wanted one for years. I NOW realize why they want to charge $300 for shipping. Upon calling about the item for pick up.

I asked the height of the box laying down ( I estimated 10 inches more than the specs) They could not provide me with a size. Second I asked when the pick up time would be best because It just snowed here on my scheduled pick up time and I will not drive my truck in a snow storm with a 500 lb safe in the back (secured).

I then asked since it was I. S. P who would help load. She said no one. After being dumbfounded a moment I said so no one will help me bring it to my truck. She says per new policy and injuries we upped the delivery charges and do not help people bring items outside or into vehicles.

Cool so my 5’7″ 155 lb self will go ahead and toss the thing onto my shoulders and load it in my truck. Not happening. So now I am stuck with no help from them other than clicking a button that the item was sold and picked up.

AS OPPOSED TO. SAMS CLUB loads it in, Home Depot Loads it in, Lowes loads it in and what do you know. so does Cabela’s and Dick’s so why is BJ’s even selling safes?? It’s ok BJ’s I am going to get a few friends and load it into my truck and bring it home.

I would rather pay them in beers and $50 each just to load and unload it with me. then to EVER pay your $300 delivery charge or deal with that much laziness. I’m over it and will cancel my membership as I’ve had quite a bit of troubles dealing with BJS them selves.

Enjoy the 3 stars because the Safe is awesome but knock two off for the bad guys.

I was looking for a safe that could hold at least 8 long guns and the standard 12 and 14 gun safes were not big enough. This safe will easily hold 10 long guns with optics along with other smaller items such as documents and jewelry on the top shelf.

The safe is heavy. I have seen the weight of this safe advertised by various vendors in the range of 350 to 450lbs. It is heavy, but with help you can move it. For those interested, here is how I moved it from store to basement.

Need at least two people to load the safe in a vehicle big enough i. e. SUV or pickup. Takes a least two people to unload the safe from the vehicle. We unloaded the safe in our garage. Once out and standing straight up, open the door 90 degrees and remove it.

Just lift up and carefully set aside. Take the steel pins out of the hinges and set aside. The safe door weighs about 90lbs. We then laid the safe down on a thick carpet with two 2x4s in the garage face down.

Make sure you space the two 2x4s out so they are under the top and bottom of the safe. This way you will be able to get a grip when you go to move it. I had my son and 2 of his friends help me move it from the garage to the basement.

One guy at the top of the safe and one at the bottom and one guy on each side. We got our grip on the inside edge of the safe front, which we were able to do because it was sitting on the 2x4s. We lifted together and walked it into the house and sat it down face first on a thick rug right at the top of the bare wooden stairs.

We strapped the rug to the safe using two moving straps – top and bottom. Two guys then went down to about the 4th step and the other two slowly starting pushing the safe towards the stairs. It then tipped down and the two guys on the stairs were able to manage to slowly let the safe come down the steps – one step at a time.

Got it to the bottom and again laid it down. We all got our grip again and carried it to the spot in the basement and stood it straight up. We put the door back on and everything was fine.

Very happy with this purchase. Unit is solid and HEAVY. Great safe for the money, well-constructed. Like most gun cabinets and safes, it will not hold the number of guns advertised. Unless they are single barrel shotguns and rifles with no scopes.

Digital keypad to access and physical key option. I haven’t had any problems with the keypad like I read in other reviews with other safes. Great quality safe! We are very happy to finally have a safe that gives us peace of mind for protecting our guns and other valuables.

This is a well constructed, 1 hour fire resistant and water proof safe. It is heavy because of this. Don’t be fooled by Amazon and others touting a new model of this safe, the HR 2300, is now available.

Amazon states the new improved model has the same 1 hour fire rating but when you go to Sentry’s web site, the new and improved is not only smaller but only resistant up to 1/2 hour. The seller, Zorro, has the best price by far.

It’s the same through their online store or ebay store. The description said it could be a month for delivery, but mine took about 2 1/2 weeks. Well worth the wait to save $30 some dollars over Staples and other stores.

We bought one of these in a local store many years ago, and we wanted an additional one. I scouted eBay and found the exact same model! It’s strong, secure and in a word, PERFECT! Recommend THIS model without reservation.

Don’t opt for cheaper or newer models. You’ll be disappointed. What we LOVE about this model is that Sentry has NOT cheapened it ONE BIT over the years. The decal is different, that’s the only change! It’s the same reliable, sturdy, strong and secure safe it was years and years ago! GO FOR IT!.

Good product. Heavy so it’s difficult to imagine someone running off with it. Especially if it’s bolted down. Good A4 ream interior size. Internet reviews mention weak spot is hinges if it’s been opened without care so if buying second hand check the hinges carefully.

The safe is very nicely built. I do have a slight problem though. The lid seal was not installed properly and is mashed and mangled when it was shut in the lid at the factory. There is phone number to call on a sticker inside the lid but that number is invalid.

I found another number in an owners manual and that number is also invalid. Finally got on the website and found a valid number but the offices were closed when I called. I used their online “contact us” for reporting issues but the email was returned to me as being an invalid address.

Sentry Safe has been around many years and I cannot believe they put invalid numbers inside the products they sell, in the owners manuals, and their email address on their website is invalid. Get it together Sentry Safe.

I would give 5 stars but with all the misinformation inside my safe, in the booklet and on your website, it doesn’t warrant 5 stars.

This safe is perfect for my family’s needs. The size is great for legal documents, the price is very affordable. The part I was not impressed with was the assembly of the water tight seal. When we unpacked the safe the seal was not attached and pinched flat on three sides because it was caught between the cover and the safe body.

I did manage to get it back on. I don’t believe that it would be water tight now. How ever I will recommend your product to others.

This safe arrived looking as if it had already been tested for at least water resistance. There was dampness within the plastic wrapped around the safe. The outside and inside of the safe looked old, corroded, pot-marked making it seem doubtful it would survive the elements as described.

The only thing that looks new is the lock assembly making it appear that it was installed on a damaged safe. My husband and I are both elderly and worked hard to get this item inside the house, unpacked and lifted to where we intend to keep it.

Returning it would be impossible for us, so we are stuck with a product that may or may not keep important documents at least relatively safe in the fire-prone area we live in. So whether this is a Honeywell issue or BB&B issue, bottom line is the product delivered to me is unacceptable in the condition it arrived.

I compared this to another well known brand and all specs indicate that it will perform just as well; let’s just hope I never have the data to proove it actually did. What sold me on this one. the product I compared it to had 2 significant disadvantage, it had to be locked to seal and protect the documents inside and it was not sealed for water protection.

I purchased this more for the fire protection then security purposes so being able to close it securely without having the key on me was important to me. At first comparison I thought being waterproof was not that important for my purposes but after so more thought it occurred to me that with a fire is generally followed by some big hoses and a lot of water.

It would really stick to have my documents survive a fire just to be ruined by the water used to put the fire out.

It’s water proof. I tested it in a tub. Don’t know it’s heat resistance. Key lock is “OK” substantial. If one really wanted to break into it ya can. I use it as document storage inside our Tornado Shelter.

Haven’t tested it in a tornado or house fire. My hope is that I never do. It has enough interior space for documents needed if my house blows away. Deed, pink slips, will, burial instructions, ham radio (yes, I keep to battery hot 24/7), etc.

I needed a safe that would fit under my bed, and this one fits the bill. It seems to be heavy duty, as judged by overall construction and the fact that it weighs nearly 29 lbs! It has a rubber seal around the lid, so it looks like it would be waterproof (no specifications are given in the Owner’s Manual, but the listing in the Harbor Freight website states “24 hour waterproof seal to keep contents dry in up to 38 in.

of water”). This is all the waterproofing I need. The Owner’s Manual says “The Safe is not fireproof”, but the listing in the Harbor Freight website says “This compact document safe has a UL class fire rating for up to 30 minutes in 1550° Fahrenheit or 843° Celsius”.

I guess “Fireproof” and a “Fire Rating are different”. At any rate, I think the safe provides enough protection for my purposes. I would buy it again.
