20 Best Waterproof Ipad Case (2022 Updated)

My sport/pastime is long distance cross country trekking, so accurate map reading is essential. I use the OS live mapping/tracking app, but can now upgrade from iPhone to iPad mini – great since my 76-year-old eyes need all the help they can get! I already have a case by the same maker for my iPhone, which has been soak tested (not intentionally!) on two or three occasions, with no leakage.

So I was especially pleased to get an identical, larger case from the same maker. I’ve taken it out to play three times so far, including in the recent snow, and it’s been perfect. Photo images are excellent, and touch screen still works fine.

And the wide, sturdy lanyard is excellent for map reading on the move. Only one little niggle, since I’m usually viewing and using the camera with the iPad camera-down and home button up, a second camera aperture opposite end would be useful.

No issue with the mapping, of course, as the screen auto-rotates. But aside from that, brilliant.

Really pleased with this cover. Comes with shoulder strap and will keep my I pad safe when travelling and on the beach.

Ideal for outside use. My only grip is that I wish the camera window was at the opposite end as you would then be able to just to lift the iPad up and take a picture without having to invert the bag and also the strap is too wide and short.

I’m not the ideal customer for this product since I haven’t bought a case for any cell phone or tablet I’ve owned since before 2007, except when it’s been absolutely necessary. But when necessary, like in this case with my iPad Pro that I take around with me in my Jeep for navigation, I remember and chose the Otterbox because it has served me well in the past.

However, since it’s been so long since I bought a good case for any handheld device, I forgot how big they can (and probably need) to be. This case is so large that it makes it impossible to dash-mount my iPad with it on, limiting the usefulness of it to only times when I’m using it outside of an office or my Jeep, which isn’t too often.

It’s still worth keeping it for those times, so basically I carry it with me in my backpack in case I need it. I think it will work well for its purpose, but I’ll probably never know. It gives you decent access to buttons, considering how well it protects your iPad, but the Pencil cover that gives you access to charge your Apple Pencil on your iPad seems like a stupidly designed after-thought.

It honestly severely compromises the structural integrity of that side of the case. I really doubt it would protect your iPad at all if you actually dropped your iPad on that side when the Pencil is not there and only the cover is there.

The cover is very, very difficult to take off, so even if they left the Pencil cover out of the design to improve protection, it would be nearly useless to people who have the Pencil, because you simply don’t want to struggle taking it off every day or two to charge your Pencil.

Taking it off every day would be like wearing galoshes and boots every single day and having to wrestle them off just to rest your feet — not fun. I think given all the shortcomings of this cover as mentioned, they should focus future designs on improving the ease of putting on and taking off the cover.

Maybe use more thick rubberized parts that can be easily removed? The plastic parts are ridiculously hard to figure out how to remove, like some kind of puzzle that I never asked for. The outside rubber cover you put on after putting the plastic case on is much, much easier to remove and put on, once you learn how to do it.

With zero documentation included, I had to look up a YouTube video to learn how to remove this case from my iPad. That should tell you how badly designed this case is. But, I think it will protect my iPad handily.

as long as I don’t drop it exactly on that side where the Pencil goes. With all this being said, I’m sure it will do a better job protecting my iPad than the Apple trackpad/keyboard combo case/cover.

I shattered the screen of a previous iPad by dropping it on its corner with that cover on. However, ironically, I’m sure because of how rarely this case will be useful, I’ll use the Apple cover a lot more often.

I have used OtterBox products for years now, and have liked all of them. The quality of the materials felt less sturdy than previous products. While I consider myself pretty handy with these devices, I admittedly couldn’t even remove the top piece to get the iPad in.

There were no instructions, I didn’t find it intuitive, and was afraid to break it trying to figure it out myself. That led me to look up YouTube videos of how to do it, and reached frustration point #2.

Their versions of the same product had a screen and didn’t look like the version I had, which made me wonder if I had missing pieces. The packaging was sealed so I didn’t think so, but theirs referenced a screen cover as well as a rubberized outside, and I had neither.

Ultimately, it wasn’t worth pursuing, because the 3rd and breaker for me was the fact that this is a 2-piece protective front and back cover, so it’s covered on both sides, but lack any kind of stand functionality.

You just snap off the cover and then use it with no easel-type functionality. Had I known this, I wouldn’t have bought it, but since it was sealed, I couldn’t open it to inspect. All in all, I found it pricey, didn’t meet my needs, and wasn’t the same quality as previous OtterBox products, so my experience wasn’t great.

I could see this for someone who worked outdoors and needed rugged protection as a sacrifice for convenience, but this one wasn’t a fit for me. I still like OtterBox and would buy other products, just not this one.

I’m not sure what has happened to the Otterbox brand over the last year or so, but to my surprise and unfortunate dismay, I found both of the Defender Series Pro cases for the 2021 iPad Pro models to be extremely subpar.

While the lack of a built-in screen protector in recent years is extremely disappointing (and shortsighted) my complaint is about the actual build quality of these particular cases. I bought (and quickly returned) both cases after trying them on both iPad Pro models – these cases suffer from the same issue.

The issue is that the plastic border of the pencil area that encompasses the bezels on the front facing side of the iPads is so thin that my thumb can actually pull it to the side during normal use. And when it returns to its normal state, it can actually catch on the side of the screen protector! I also own the 2020 iPad Air and this is not an issue – interestingly enough.

I suspect Otterbox has reduced the amount of plastic they use on the top frame of the case as well as the amount of rubber they use for the outer case protection. Both of the 2021 cases seem to have less rubber protection than the 2020 iPad Air case.

I don’t know if this was an intentional move to save money or if Apple provided Otterbox with the wrong specs, but the 2021 cases are less than ideal and the overall rating this case has is deserved – it is not a mistake.

This is genuinely poor quality and I expect better from Otterbox overall. In addition, the packaging for the case is extremely cheap and flimsy – almost like recycled newspaper. They are better off just selling it without the packaging because it does not nothing to instill confidence in overall quality.

In Otterbox’s defense, Apple’s choice to use the side of the iPad for charging the Apple Pencil undoubtedly created some design challenges. I think Otterbox’s decision to use a cheap plastic flap to accommodate Apple pencil use was a poor decision.

The hinges that keep the flap attached to the plastic frame (underneath the rubber when the case is fully assembled) are incredibly cheap and look like they are prone to easy breakage. It introduces a single point of failure in the overall frame design.

I wish Otterbox would have simply made a cutout in the frame to accommodate the pencil and gave users the option of inserting a rubber cover over the pencil portion for added rigidity and protection once the case is fully assembled.

In either event, I am glad to say that I have not given up on Otterbox entirely – I simply may need to give up the idea that they are the best in the business when it comes to case design and protection.

If I can find another company is more focused on case protection that maying cheap bluetooth keyboards, I may give them a chance over the Otterbox brand.

I have an autistic son who is not careful with electronics. I spent the extra money for this because of the reputation for protection. So far so good – it seems very sturdy. My only complaint is that there are several very rough seams.

It is not comfortable to hold or use because of the kinda sharp places. Also, the stand is only good for landscape mode and sometimes you need portrait. These minor things wont matter to me though if it protects well.

For over ten years I’ve bought nothing but survivor cases for all of my tablets and phones. I’m pretty sure it’s around 20, 25 cases and every single one I’ve been happy with. The tablet will crap out long before the case ever does.

My first and only choice in protection for my devices is survivor cases. I just bought this new case for my 9th gen iPad and I couldn’t be happier. My only complaint and its not with the product its with the shipping company.

Took over two weeks to get it.

I bought the survivor case about a decade ago for the first gen iPad Air. We now need to replace it due to apple no longer supporting the device. The device looks brand new thanks to the survivor case.

This case has ensured that our device has “survived” two children. Thank you survivor case. It is now time to replace the iPad, and we will be purchasing another survivor case.

I certainly feel my iPad Air is securely protected in the Defender Case. The built-in screen protection is an added plus and does not interfere with haptic input. The disassembly of the Defender Case is a little tricky.

I had to contact Customer Service for assistance. They were great! I wish the Case offered incremental angle adjustment for viewing. I would prefer something in between what is offered for high and low viewing settings.

The charging port is difficult to access with the very springy rubber port cover. I find it somewhat difficult to plug in and unplug the charging cable. Lastly, the volume controls require a firm press to activate with the Case on.

I honestly considered returning the Case but the positives outweigh the negatives. I’m hoping the rubber becomes more pliable once the case ‘breaks in’. That should resolve a couple of my concerns. Bottom line: Solid protection, a little hefty, but probably offers the best protection available.

I think it would be a five star Case with a couple slight modifications.

I bought this product a week ago, and initially it was great. But as I used it more and more, I eventually saw a critical problem: the stand. I used the OtterBox Defender for the iPad air 3, and it was brilliant – best case i’ve owned.

I trusted OtterBox to bring a similar design for the iPad air 4, but I was wrong. The case stand sucks. There are two positions, similar to the old design. One high for viewing and one low for drawing, etc.

But this new design for the iPad Air 4 takes both of those to the extreme. The high stand makes it practically vertical, which makes it impossible to view. The low stand is extremely low, practically on the desk, totally horizontal.

Both are impossible to make it a comfortable viewing position. The reason for this is that they (for some reason) shifted the thing that makes it stand forward an inch or so, which makes a massive difference.

They should’ve used the iPad air 3 design. If it isn’t a flaw, don’t try fixing it. OtterBox has disappointed me with this $90 (really expensive!) case, looking forward to buy a new one. Can’t believe this design actually got approved.

Screen protector is thin flexible film that is easily scratched and created what looks like ripples of sunlight in certain light. Tablet is used in the field daily, so scratches would eventually make the screen unreadable.

I removed the screen protector after the second day. Loops to accommodate a shoulder strap are small and appear to be thin, possibly fragile construction. Shoulder strap supplied with case is very thin and would not hold up to daily field work, so I replaced with a more durable strap.

I would also prefer to have the option for a hand strap across the back of the case. The spot for the pencil to charge is too small to accommodate the Apple Pencil 2 if it is also in the sleeve offered by SaharaCase.

One would hope that products sold by the same parent company would be compatible with each other. The case itself appears to be decent to protect against small falls, but once the case starts to separate, it can relatively easily be removed similar to a zipper.

Overall, I probably would not buy again unless product improvements have been made, I don’t feel like it is worth the money I paid for it.

I enjoy my case! One observation is that the frame screen does not interface well with the screen. I’m debating about getting a screen protector which may eliminate the loose clicking sound I am hearing by filing in the gap between the two.

Also, once the frame screen inevitably becomes trashed I’ll buy a screen protector and cut out the frame screen with a razor (knowing it won’t be waterproof). All in all your product, while not perfect, is satisfying.

Overall the Nuud series case has the best feel and protection level I need. I use my ipad on my boat and wanted water protection without the clumsy bulkiness of the majority of the waterproof cases out there.

The most critical item apart from water protection was no protective layer on the screen. I’ve tried several and not even the highest rated felt or looked the same, nor operated at zero degradation from a bare screen.

I definitely wanted nothing on the ipad screen and this case does exactly that. The case comes with a test blank so that you can test the water seal yourself, but I didn’t bother. Installation took about a minute or so and was as easy as snapping the two halves together.

The button operation is very good. They are a little hard to press, but that’s all part of the protection. It’s not like having a naked ipad, but there are always compromises. I would definitely recommend this to someone looking for maximum protection without sacrificing light weight and forma factor and especially being able to directly contact the screen.

This is my second Lifeproof for my iPad. The first one has lived a tortured life and is still in good usable condition. Some of the rubber has been damaged a little after being dropped multiple times.

My wife lets the grandkids use it and it has received some scratches and teething marks but remains waterproof. The screen cover and stand are a nice touch too. This is the 13th Lifeproof item we have purchased and we have not regretted buying any of their products.

They have saved our devices no telling how many times. If your in the market for a waterproof case, these are the ones to have.

The case is compact, fitting snugly around the ipad and very lightweight. It passed the watertight test for over two hours using a piece of tissue inside. Be sure and get one WITH the plastic tool for opening the case, this is a must have item.

I found one with a reasonable price after shopping around so be patient. I will say that since Otterbox has purchased LifeProof it seems to have put them in limbo somewhat. Hopefully this will sort itself out in the near future.

For the time being it’s somewhat difficult to find product. Not sure how this could affect warranty concerns. hope I don’t have any!.

This particular case had a seal that disintegrated. the rubber just started peeling out of it. I had to order a different case from amazon a couple of months later just to get by. I just now found another lifeproof fre in one of the colors I have been looking for so I ordered off ebay.

I am hoping it was just a bad case and this one will hold up. I should have taken a picture. I did not. When the rubber started to crumble it got messy and I tossed the case. I like lifeproof cases because they are waterproof.

Normally they just would wear out around the charging area. This particular one even lost the rubber coating around the sound on off button. At first I did not realize it and my phone was getting bumped on and off.

One of the questions above was does it give good protection. When in tact it does but because this case crumbled it was worthless.

I bought this a month ago, I’ve only ever use life proof case is the 12 years I’ve had Apple products, the case I had before purchasing this one was a clear hard shell life proof case. I had it for two years and it was no longer usable so I ordered the FRE case because that’s the only super protective case that they carry now for iPhone XR which really upset me because I liked having my clear plastic case so that I could put anything on the inside of it and make it look like my own case, I put Polaroids and stickers in it so it looked really cool.

Now I can’t do it with the FRE. I didn’t want this case but I’m not eligible for a new phone yet so I had to do what I had to do. Definitely not worth the hundred dollars I spent on it. My friends can’t hear me when I’m on the phone with them because the speaker is so muffled from the “ waterproof technology” when I play videos off of my phone it sounds like my phone is underwater.

I have not put my phone in water to test the case, so there would be no water in my speakers. I just wish I could’ve got the case I had before because this one has given me tons of issues. It’s not easy to use.

I don’t like having to open the bottom flap to charge my phone, I didn’t buy this case because I wanted the waterproof technology I bought it because I wanted to make sure I wouldn’t crack my screen, the last case I had didn’t have the jack where the charger port is, or the screen protector over the phone, but I never had an issue with my phone shattering or cracking when I dropped it with my last case.

I just wish they still made the model of case that I used to have because this one sucks. This FRE case was the first one that I ever purchased for my iPhone four and I can continue to buy another one when I got my iPhone 6.

I’ve had this case before and I liked it but this one I have at the moment I do not like at all.

True story – I dropped my phone off of a ~60 foot cliff with this case on. I watched hopelessly as it fell and landed HARD on the massive boulders below. It took me like 30 minutes to find a way down to my phone, and then to find my phone sitting perched atop a rock, still playing my music, completely unscathed.

The case itself had a few minor scratches, but the phone was completely fine. The case has a slim low-profile which is awesome. My only complaint is it has a tendency to begin falling apart after a while of use (and shortly after falling off of a cliff).

I’ve had two in the four years I’ve owned my phone. Phone still going strong!.

Been using Otterbox for years on pads and phones. Something went south this time. The quality of the material is as always, outstanding. The functionality of the case for the iPad Pro 11 inch is less than thoughtful.

The storage and access to the Apple Pencil (if you use one) is half baked. Don’t plan on traveling with the pencil stored with the pad because it dose not enclose the device. The kickstand is the worst.

You get 30 or 90 degrees when we all want to know why not the 45 degrees we all use. Not to mention it is a completely separate piece and not built in. There for it is almost flat on the table, or tipping over at 90 degrees because the pad does not lock in when using the kickstand in either.

I was using a $30 Turtle Shell that he better functionality. I don’t believe much thought went into the design of this model. Again, good quality material and well protected. The functionality of the case is simply sub-par and is a let-down.

To start, I am normally the person that buys a case and screen protector separately and then end up paying for the install of the screen protector. After seeing the price I decided to try this since I have bought other Otterbox products (usually my iPhone) before and decided to give this a shot.

For the good, the main case with the screen protector is pretty good. It doesn’t add much size or weight (in my opinion) to my iPad. I also like that the flap for the Apple Pencil in previous model I researched has been replaced with a hard piece of plastic that opens on hinges and snaps/clicks shut when you are not charging the Apple Pencil.

For the “okay”, the hard shell case is nice for transport but I find it hard to get off at times. Perhaps this will relax a bit over time since it is so new. I also noticed some notches in the screen protector that look like they are for sure there by design but I’m not sure why aside from one obvious one that would cover the front camera.

Not a huge deal but just something I happened to notice. Also, inside the hard shell is where you’ll find a slot to hold your Apple Pencil during transport but it appears this wasn’t designed tight enough as I find my Apple Pencil able to slide up and down the holster.

For the bad/need improvement I’ll start with the hard shell case/stand. The stand feature is really nice but like many have said in previous generations it would have been better if more angles were possible.

I think if some additional slots were added and you could lift/move one of the “feet” that this could be easily accomplished. I have also seen competitors utilize a slit on the side for the Apple Pencil so it is always able to be connected/charging to the iPad that I think would have been nice as I worry about the hinges on the door I mentioned.

Maybe to some this isn’t a huge deal but I think this could have helped put this product over the top. Overall I would definitely recommend this product in terms of protection for your iPad. There are just a few minor tweaks that is keeping it from being perfect.

This product states on the packaging “Storage For Apple Pencil” when it is no way provides encasement for Apple Pencil, merely providing a hinged plastic flap to allow ACCESS ONLY to your Apple Pencil when docked to the side magnetic charging strip.

This is a clear case of Otterbox disleading customers, or at the very least obfuscating facts, about the actual product, and over-extend the functionality of this product. The product in no manner holds or encases the Apple Pencil whatsoever.

So, if you buy this, what you get is a protective case for your iPad Pro, which leaves the attached Apple Pencil unprotected and exposed, with a hinged plastic flap dangling below it. How Otterbox could allow this packaging copy is a false representation of the actual product on offer, and can only be taken as an effort to induce purchase by overstating the actual function and use of the product.

On this basis alone, I will no longer buy an Otterbox product and suggest you avoid this company.

I was not for sure how well made this case was when I ordered it. Now that I have it and installed it, my opinion is that this is a great case for the iPad 6! I am a loyal customer to the other case company starting with the letter “O”, and that company does not sell a case for this particular iPad yet.

But now that I was forced to step out of my comfort zone and order this case from Sahara Case, I’m glad I did and I will have no need to order one from the competition because this case is as good and possibly better than the “others” Thanks for the great product! You have made a great product and you will now be in my sights for future purchases.

Its a good case, it works for my little one but the one thing I dislike about the case is front and back both has screen protection I feel like with my little one could brake the screen easily. They should have just done a hard backing and one screen which is the front.

For the price though I think it’s to much.

Cost: Not the cheapest, but good value for money Screenguard: Doesn’t come in the way of the screen guard (Atleast for the one I am using) Pencil holder: Has a secure pencil holder. There is no way your pencil will fall off from it.

The product is good but the assembly was difficult. There is absolutely ZERO support other than reference to a Youtube video which was completely unhelpful. I reached out to the manufacturer but they could not provide me with a link to either written instructions or any other video than the one provided.

I’d really recommend buying from a different manufacturer. There are other providers of similar ipad protective case products. I’d seriously suggest trying one of them before ever buying anything from Supcase.

While recently purchasing a new iPad, I selected this case for the sturdiness and professional look. It gets a lot of use and is working out very well for me. The only reason I did not rate it a 5 is because the clear outer cover collects so many fingerprints.

This case is nice in that it covers the whole iPad and I don’t have to worry as much about kids dropping it and damaging. But it’s hard to turn it off. And it’s really not that great to use for touch features.

Sometimes you have to hit the buttons a few times to registers the touch.

Nice case with a screen protector. The case also has a stand option to view shows. We use the tablet for a back Credit card terminal and the stand works awesome. It runs the whole length of the tablet not just a 2 inch kick out.

Pros: Works as described. Good fit. Good protection Cons: Expensive. Not much different in quality from cheap unbranded covers.

Pros: Fits really well. Ipad extremely well protected. Case looks great. Cons: Bulkier than I expected considering how thin the ipad is. And I didn’t realise how little I would use the apple pencil. Perhaps I didn’t need a case to hold the pencil afterall.

Case is also grey and just about black. When it says midnight blue, it means black.

Bought this on sale at my local Sprint store 2 years ago when I bought my iPhone XR. I loved the waterproof design and used it everywhere I went! After about 6 months, I really started feeling some of the negative aspects of the case though.

With the phone having a face recognition to unlock, having the small amount of distance between the phone camera and the case caused some sort of reflection or distortion so that the phone won’t unlock, or, if I’m on the phone, the screen refused to stay up to allow me to change the call type from speaker to Bluetooth, merge the call, or the like.

It frustrated me a lot so I would take the phone out of the case once a week or so to make a call or simply unlock the phone, at which point the sealing rings/gasket came unstuck from the case after opening it up 4-5 times in a month! so, I tried to put the rubber gasket back in and when I closed the case, there would always be a corner that refused to seal completely since the gasket was always flopping around inside the case.

I ended up having to use masking tape wrapped around the gasket to add thickness to the rubber and that held it in place until I was annoyed enough with calls not working correctly that I bought a cheapo case that works better for everyday use, and the life proof case has sat unused in my desk drawer for the last 6 months.

I have used Otter Box products for quite some time. I have used this case for the better part of a month. Well made and attractive products. My main beef is that Otter Box does not produce all of their products in North America.

(almost certain my case was made overseas) I would prefer to pay another $10-20 for a product made in a country with good worker and environmental protections. This is a premium product with a premium price, the price I do not dispute, but it would be nice if it was made stateside.

That said, the quality of the case is excellent. Good protection for when I drop things. The screen protector is not very good. It is loose and you have to push pretty hard for positive contact. Since I have big thumbs it is already a bit difficult to get the right button on the screen and the cover does not help.

I plant to remove the Otter Box integrated screen protector and replace it with another product. I am happy with my purchase.

Have both of their iPad & iPhone cases, great construction for proven protection. Never dropped my 12. 9 iPad Pro, but did drop my IPhone 5SE from about 4 high, on to a concrete sidewalk. Not even a scratch! SUPCASE simply builds the best product for the money.

Many models with or w/o screen protector, & doesnt interfere with your touch screen functionality. The iPad model features a GREAT retractable locking, sturdy kickstand, thats works well in portrait or landscape positions.

If you buy one, youll never consider another case. Case Closed!.

If I had to be BRUTALLY HONEST. I would say this is by far THE BEST iPad Pro 12. 9 inch (2017) case I have ever purchased!!! Came in brand new packaging. Super easy to put on and take off. Very protective.

I thought the stand would collapse if I were to put it on my bed BUT that didnt happen. This is such a perfect case. Im definitely ordering another one in a different color. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Even typing this review ,the stand is holding up.

Very rugged and built like a tank! Fits perfectly. My iPad Pro was not cheap, so I want to protect it as best I can and this Supcase Unicorn Beetle does the job. Ive also noticed that the clear protective screen cover does not scratch as easily as others that I have used in the past.

This is truly a quality item and you will not be disappointed.

This is not actually a review just of the product. The product itself is ok. Not quite the rough tough high quality I expect from otras box. The glueing and attachment of the cover is iffy at best. It’s a bit conversion and doesn’t always stay up when folded for the stand.

Not sure I would pay that price again. Plus it looked used and repackages when I received it. But Bestbuy took care of some of that… kinda.

This product will not fit the iPad 8th generation. Support advised it is a tight fit but unable to get the height and width into the. When the side volume buttons are aligned with the case the iPad is nearly 9mm longer on the bottom and.

The screen sleep magnets are also not correct. When positioned over the screen the magnets repel the cover from the front of the iPad and do not cause the screen to go to sleep. Design theory and look of the product is great but this product was poorly executed from test to final product that is being distributed to customers.

Also please get better advise for your customer service then push harder on a screen and risk breaking an expensive electronic. Will be returning.

I love this Otterbox cover. It’s heavy but not too heavy. I like the two positions you can place the iPad in for writing since that was one of the setbacks on competitor’s cases. I also like that Otterbox no longer uses a clear screen cover since that used to be a nuisance.

The magnetic cover works good at keeping it closed. My only complaint is that the opening for the charger plug is a little small, which make it hard to plug in and sometimes even hard to determine if it’s properly plugged in.

I have pushed the plug in where it feels like it was properly secured only to discover that it didn’t plug in at all and pushed below between the cover and back side of the iPad. Other than that, this case is great.
