This is not a good sealer. It might be easy to put on, which other reviewers mentioned in their writing, but it isn’t durable. It lasts a couple of years, max, here in the Midwest. Look for a spar varnish, a marine varnish, or a UV protectant polyurethane.

This isn’t the answer you’re looking for. If you want to compare it to other things, look at the ingredients.

Added a nice finish to our deck, easy to work with and only needed one coat. Very pleased with Thomson’s, a name you can trust!

I applied Thompson’s Water Seal just before a long rainy period. It is nice to see that the water beads up on top of the deck that I just sealed. I used a roller on an extension pole and the sealant was easy to apply.

Product arrive more quickly than anticipated. I applied the marine wood sealer, using two coats as directed and we’ll see how long it lasts.

So far so good. It’s only been a few weeks since I purchased this product so keep that in mind. It applies very easy, I’m using it on my new cedar deck. It’s rained a little and I have noticed that the water on the cedar is beading up.

I’ll apply a second coat later this year.

Block walls above below grade, trailer roofs (with leaks), old flat roof resurfacing, this stuff is great, i use three coats, long drying time but, no leaks, clean easy application and sticks to anything.

Just make sure surface is clean and sturdy before application.

this repellent is the best. The multi surface aspect is wonderfull. This stuff works on anything ! I proofed a cab for an atv and now staying dry as hot sand on miami beach. One 12oz. can will do quite a large area.

The aerosol can is very convenient to avoid messy cleanups.

This product worked great on sealing my glass block wall. I cleaned the glass blocks with regular window cleaner. I applied two coats on a non-windy day, allowing drying time between them. The next rain.

not a drop of water leaked into the house!.

Why is this so expensive compared to Ace? Don’t pay this price.

Had a new driveway installed last Fall aprox $7000. Wanted to seal the concrete & brother referred me to the Thompson brand. 3 days later, the beautiful driveway is now blotching! What a disappointment! I hope the sun will bleach out the blotchiness.

Will never use the product again!.

I have had a leaking roof near the seam between the roof and porch, and no matter what I’ve put on, it continues to leak. We actually need a new roof, but we can’t do that expense right now. I decided to try the Flex Seal on the portion that I thought was leaking.

I easily applied this with a brush and roller, but it is a thicker consistency than paint, so be aware of that difference. It seemed to dry pretty quickly, because when I checked on it a few hours later it was pretty firm.

It is like rubber so it really forms to the surface that you paint it on. I had a little left, so I also coated an old hammer handle and it seems to be adhered to it pretty good. We did get a small shower and it held up, but waiting until we get a heavy rain to see if indeed it holds at least for a year or so until we can afford a roof.

So far, I am impressed, and if it does hold up well, I am thinking about using it to paint my basement to make it moisture proof and then I can turn it into a game room at some point and not worry about mildew or mold smells.

When I went to buy brushes and a roller for this, the salesman at a large home improvement store had said that he used the product for everything and he highly recommended it. I can see lots of uses for this product, since it is flexible and easy to apply.

I’m usually wary of those “as seen on tv’ products, but I think this could be a winner. Pros: applies easily, flexible, not strong smelling, Cons: have to use mineral spirits to clean up, can dry quickly if you let the can open while working with it.

What a fantastic product! Our gutters were leaking at the seams so we looked into seamless gutters. The two estimates we received were quite costly. Thankfully, a friend suggested that we try Flex Seal before going to all that expense.

So glad we listened to that advice. Followed the directions exactly, and now we have leak free gutters! What a cost effective way to resolve such a huge problem. The key to it working correctly is to thoroughly clean the area you wish to apply the Flex Seal to.

That actually is the most time consuming part of the project. After everything was cleaned and dried, we applied Flex Seal to our gutters. The result was nothing short of miraculous after the first rainstorm.

I was pretty skeptical about this at first. With all the hype and commercials I decided to give it a try. Listen I get it but this stuff is amazing. I use it for everything now! From cracks, nail holes in the wall, bathroom to seal the tub around the edges I mean everything! It holds like nothing else I’ve ever used, easy clean up, mess free, no smell I mean it just works! Don’t take my word for it just try it you won’t be disappointed!.

I used this product AS DIRECTED IN THE INSTRUCTIONS, and it came out exactly as I expected. I have used it before in my last house, and it worked well, so I used it again. I am finishing my basement.

In a couple spots, I had a very slight trickle of water coming in between the seams of my foundation where the wall meats the floor when it raining really hard. I painted on a very thick layer directly in the seam, then rolled it on thick with a 3″ roller on both the wall and the floor.

I did not use Ames tape as directed. As I did before, I used a fiberglass roofing mesh made by Henry’s. I stuck the mesh right in the seam, and painted another layer of Blue Max on it. After that was dry, I painted it on thick again.

I repeated that one more time, and then painted over the 3 later seam on both wall and floor with one layer applied with a 9″ roller. I then painted over the Blue Max on the walls with DRYLOCK. 2 days ago we had a torrential downpour and my basement is bone dry.

This is the second house in a row I have owned where this has worked perfectly to keep my basement dry. The 5 gallon is pricy, but it beats 1000’s in water damage finding out the hard way that you haven’t done enough to prevent your basement taking on water before you finish it.

The key is, don’t use the product as it is intended. To address other reviews I have read: 1 – It says right on the container not to apply it too thin, and how much is recommended to apply. 2 – It also says right on the container that if you have it in direct sunlight all the time, it can dry out and flake.

The same will happen with any rubber. I have used this stuff before, and I would use it again.

Spreads well, medium fast drying potential. We applied in a super humid basement(70%) situation, dry in around 5 hrs. Coverage a bit better on porous concrete than on cinder blocks with rough jointing.

Even at that, one coat should be all that’s needed! This formula contains none of the super toxic fumes of the “old” stuff. Safe around pets and kids too.

The finish left by the product is very soft. After three days of drying I flipped the wood panel over to finish the back side. When I moved the board again I found the finish had slightly stuck to the board it was sitting on and I now have a distinct line across the part.

Even worse after leaving for a week I installed the part in the boat. Sitting on the board caused the finish to shift and created wrinkles. I don’t know if I did something wrong in the application or if it needs multiple weeks to full cure.

In either case I regret the decision on this product and will likely end up pulling off the boat next off-season to strip and re-do with a different product.

I bought a quart of the Marine Wood Finish to seal and finish a weathered solid mahogany bench after a great deal of sanding prep. A couple of points for purchasers. As another reviewer pointed out this is not like a clear varnish or satin varnish.

There is an orange yellow color out of the can. On very dark wood like end grain the yellowish tone shows up. On the reddish brown grain it did not. The can was labeled SATIN finish but after three coats: first two thinned with mineral spirits then a light sanding with 220 sandpaper and full strength final coat,the finish was very good and pretty deep, but if it were any glossier you could see your face in it.

It also does a pretty good job of filling the open pores in Mahogany, but not as well as a pore sealer. But for an outdoor bench, the extra work and expense of filling pores was not necessary. That’s a plus.

The directions on the can are different than the directions on the website as far as thinning the initial coat. The label does not say mineral spirits is a suitable thinner – just says to use the Total Boat 100 proprietary thinner.

I followed the web directions which said mineral spirits and that worked fine. Yes, I would recommend this product with the caveats above but NOT if you are looking for a satin finish.

This is our second purchase of the TotalBoat Marine Wood Finish as we’ve had success with it on the brightwork of our backyard built 20′ LOA, 8′ Beam, Ply on Frame Pacific Northwest Dory. We started using it when we first mounted the White Oak Rubrails when the hull was on the strongback.

We also used it on our White Oak Sole and the AshToerail. White Oak is a bear to finish and keep clean, but this material, after a year, has held up to the harsh Sun and Environment of the Sun Coast of Florida.

We highly recommend it!.

We purchased 5 five-gallon buckets of this wood finish to treat 2 privacy fences that were recently pressure washed. After rolling for an afternoon, we decided to get an airless sprayer to complete the rest of the work.

This wood finish sprayed on well. It still looks pretty good after a few months. The neighbors behind the first fence we did compliment us on it and said they were planning on washing and staining their fence now also.

I wish this wood finish worked in one coat, rather than needed a follow-up coat so the fence doesn’t look blotchy. I would recommend using an airless sprayer with the product if you are putting on more than a gallon.

The only thing that disappointed me was that the buckets don’t have a built-in pop-out spout to aid in pouring. I have purchased 5-gallon paint buckets before from other manufacturers that have a little spout that pops out.

You need to buy an extra spout if you want to easily pour this product into a paint tray or sprayer bottle.

I am a (frustrated) amateur when it comes to staining wood. I have tried a half dozen different stains, and was not especially satisfied with any of them (not Behr products). However, THIS one is the only one to totally satisfy me with regards to ease of use, ease of clean-up, and beauty of finished product.

I have used the cedar naturaltone and the redwood. I used the stains to treat plain pine wood for raised garden beds and it worked perfectly. The beds look like more expensive wood at a fraction of the cost.

They are protected from water, sun damage, and mildew (OK, confession: mildew is not much of a problem here in Arizona!) I highly recommend this product, though I can’t comment on its durability yet as I’ve only used it for the last 2 months.

I used this product with a medium bristle trim brush to even out the bare wood spruce ribs on a wooden boat I am building. it’s viscosity (flow) is like a thin paint. It went on well and looks fine. Unfortunately, I think I am going to have to sand to get an even surface before painting.

I probably should have wiped off the excess before allowing it to dry.

I have been using this product close to 30 years. Sets up a solid base for applying varnish. I find two coats of it on bare wood is like 4 coats of varnish.

I had to listen to my husband, who is a professional painter and wood finisher, complain for hours about how hard this material was to deal with. Extremely sticky, tacky, like molasses. Since I’ve never used it before, I don’t know if this is normal (we used it within prescribed conditions) but despite the nice finish, I won’t be buying it again.

I put four coats of this on the exposed particle board edges of my Ikea bookcase prior to assembly. All the parts were airing out in my living room for nearly two weeks prior to assembly. At the end of this period, the fumes odor had been greatly reduced, but after assembly, I could smell the bookcase in my bedroom.

HOWEVER, two days later I’m not smelling it at all and it’s next to the nightstand by my bed. I think this product worked even though it appeared to soak into the very porous particle board. I also used it for the back of the bookcase where a large surface of particle board was exposed and had the greatest odor issue.

It’s hard to say though whether the 2-week airing out period is what worked or the product itself or a combo of both.

I used this product over some very bad OSB flooring after I tore out the carpet and then found particle board under that which I also tore out down to the OSB flooring which looked like it was taken from a dump somewhere.

Had a funky smell to it and all sorts of stains, etc. of who knows what. Immediately I knew I wanted to use AFM Safe Seal on it to seal in whatever was on/in that OSB. I used a 2. 5-inch paint brush and applied it around the perimeter of the rooms first and after that I rolled it on using a regular paint pan and roller with a 1/2 nap on an extension stick.

Worked absolutely fantastic. I have severe chemical sensitivities and I am able to use this product with no problem at all and am very happy knowing those floors can no longer emit bad odors into those rooms!.

I used rags to wipe this product on the raw wood and mdf parts of an IKEA Hemnes dresser. It did a very good job of suppressing the smell that had bothered me so much. It’s pretty sticky and it can be messy of you try to rush through.

Cleanup is soap and water, but I had to scrub pretty hard to get all the sticky residue off my hands. (hmm, I wonder if the pitch from the pine contributed to that stickiness?) Anyway, I have plenty left over after doing a dresser and a chest of drawers.

I’ll use this again in the future when outgassing odors need to be suppressed.

Since it is water based, the paint was absorbed quickly. At the beginning of the painting, the panels look orange, but when the paint dried out, the color turns darker and prettier. I used less than 2 gallons for a 30 feet long fence.

Shake it before use. I only applied the paint once. The fence looks nice even after the heavy rain.

I have used several different stains and sealers on my deck and must say Olympic Waterguard stain and sealer is by far the best! We recently replaced our deck so I used this stain & sealer to finish it, in the past I had resealed my deck approximately every two years and this was by far the best experience I’ve had with this type of product.

It goes on smoothly without any tackiness and looks great with just one thing coat. Our deck is large and leads into our front door, the drying time is 24 hours so I did one half of the deck one day, and the other half the next.

I worried there would be a difference in color between the two but now you can’t even tell I didn’t do it all at once. It was completely dry in the 24 hour drying time too. Its been several weeks since I applied it and my deck still looks wonderful, just like it did the day after I applied it! My kids play rowdy games on it, running, dropping things, etc and there is absolutely no scuffing or marking on the deck.

When it rains the water beads up and runs off quickly. It is truly waterproof and the scuff guard works. I also really like the acorn color, it’s transparent with just a hint of color that keeps my deck looking perfectly clean and brand new.

I am so satisfied! Will definitely be using this brand & product in the future.

My Husband pressure washed our wood deck stripping off all the old and peeling sealant that stopped protecting way to long ago. We applied the Olympic WaterGuard Multi-Surface Waterproofing Sealant Clear in color a few days later using a paint roller designed for stains attached to a extension pole to do the floor surface and a brush for the rails.

I was expecting that a second application would be needed so I was really surprised that after it had thoroughly dried about 24 hours later that was not the case. This sealant has a nice consistency making it easy to apply coverage evenly.

Both the roller and brush cleaned up nicely simply using soap and water. No rain was in the forecast after it was thoroughly dried and since I was so curious to see how well it would repel water I sprayed it quite heavily using the garden hose and sure enough it beaded up and did not penetrate into the wood.

The real plus about this sealant is it can be applied to different types of surfaces not just wood.

I recently updated my basement in hopes of keeping the water out. We have had previous issues with leaks coming from the brick foundation. My home was built in 1900, so the room where the previous coal furnace was located had the most issues with leaks.

I applied the waterproof sealant over the walls with a roller, and used a paint brush to apply to the small areas that couldn’t be reached with the roller. The process was so easy, and the sealant didn’t run.

It applies clear, so you can’t even tell that this product was applied. It was very easy to apply, and scent of the sealant was tolerable. I allowed it to dry for 24 hours. I haven’t had a single leak in my basement since.

I couldn’t be more satisfied with this product.

Do thin coats! Wax makes it slippery when wet!

I bought this for our new log home’s exterior. The first coat went on light, so a second coat was needed. Don’t be fooled by the color of the wood on the outside of the can! The clear cedar tone is VERY red! The quick drying feature is a major plus.

It’s been 4 years and the stain has held up extremely well, even in our harsh winter conditions! Yes!! I would buy again, absolutely!!.
