20 Best Waxless Toilet Seal (2022 Updated)

New floor, new flange, new toilet – let’s try Korky #1 Toilet Repair brand. Followed the instructions, watched the video, the toilet bowl is rocky/unstable. This product was a waste of my time. I got my money back, who’s gonna give me an hour of waste time?!.

I have used these Fernco toilet seals on numerous toilets to replace the wax rings. I did not have any problems/leaks after using them. The Fernco seals allows for re-position, if needed, where the wax rings are one and done.

Great product, but can be hard to find. Luckily my Ace a couple of towns over seems to carry them in-stock every time I have needed one.

I installed this for a wall discharge toilet. The problem was that the fitting in the wall was an elbow so the part of this seal that went into the wall hit the elbow and clamped it down. This stuck to the toilet like crazy.

But due to the limited depth that I had it did not work. I can see where this would be great for a floor mounted toilet that had enough depth. If your floor mounted has a quick elbow this might not be the part for you.

I bought and fitted one yesterday. I liked the idea because I had just re-tiled and the floor was now too high for the standard wax ring. You do need to know the size of the pipe in the floor before going to purchase the gasket ring as they are built for different size pipes.

I actually bought 2 and messed one up when trying to fit it the first time (this is standard for me). My fault. They had as part of their instructions to lubricate the part – I missed that the first time.

Also the first time I was lifting-fitting the bowl on my own and could not get it lined up well enough like that. I did not get it exactly in the hole the first time and it bent and that was that! For the second one, however, I had my neighbour over to help and I lubricated the pipe and the gasket ring well with soapy water.

We lined it up very easily and it slid into the hole with no problem. It was simple as that. There is no leakage and I am extremely happy with this idea.

This device was used in a below floor installation that required the use of both parts and compressed so the toilet sat flat with no rocking. Initially it seemed okay and working as it should with never any water around the toilet.

A while later we noticed it started leaking but because the flange was below the finished floor the water was going onto the sub floor and eventually it rotted to the point the water started dripping in the basement.

This obviously small seeping leak was probably from the very start and took a long time to become evident. Contacted Danco as it was under warranty and they said they would rush a replacement. After pulling the toilet I discovered that everything had seated as it should have, the blue adaptor was properly sitting over the horn on the bottom of the toilet and the main part had compressed level.

The problem was that the wax when pushed out of the seal had created a restriction in the 3 inch drain opening narrowing the flow to about 2 inches. This restriction was causing a small back up in the drain which with this strong flushing toilet, forced water between the two parts of the seal allowing a small amount of seepage onto the sub floor.

Over time the sub floor could only absorb so much and eventually made the leak evident. Not wanting to ever trust this product again I switched to the Fluidmaster Better Than Wax Toilet Seal which required using both parts for below floor flange installation.

Had to put full weight onto the toilet to compress seal enough that the toilet sat flush on the tile floor. This seal with no restriction in the flush is working fine with no evidence of a leak on the tile floor or from the sub floor below into the basement.

Never did get the promised Perfect Seal replacement from Danco.

The box says it works if the flange surface is up to 1/2 inch above the floor tile. No, it doesn’t. The plumber tried it and there was a gap between the toilet and floor. Had to take it off and use the standard wax seal.

Only use this if the flange is lower than the floor surface.

Do not buy this. just get a regular extra thick wax seal. This product looks like it will work but the wax is not wide enough to cover the flange. after the smell started and I removed only then could I see where the problem was.

Its a design flaw.

Great service from Home Depot- arrived quickly. Product was perfect for the job of reattaching toilet, snug fit to add extra protection to the overall fitting.

Wax ring flange would not fit properly in replacement floor flange. Had to buy an Oatey wax ring.

Not useful if you have added tile floor and set toilet on top of tile. Added 1″ of space is not compensated for with only 1/4″ thickness added to standard wax ring with flange.

I started using these in my motel maintenance business to deal with recurring issues I had with side discharge toilets which were more susceptible to shift from side to side with heavier customers thus breaking the wax seal.

They are very good for this. A little toilet movement no longer results in a broken seal since the foam and rubber construction gives and springs back. On floor mount toilets, motel tile floors are typically not level and toilets usually need shimming.

These seals allow shimming to be done after the toilet drop without fear of breaking the seal. Also, since they are generally thicker than a normal wax seal and are easy to compress, they work in a wide variety of scenarios.

i. e. flange too recessed or a little too high. Three notes though: 1) On the inside there is a fold out lip that directs waste into the plumbing. On some specialty toilet flanges like an inside 3″ PVC, this lip doesn’t fit inside the flange and crumples.

In this case you must flip the Saniseal upside down as the instructions also indicate. 2) These are made with a foam type material lined with a rubbery like outer skin. Be careful not to tear the outer skin otherwise the foam inside may collect waste water and become waterlogged.

3) Although I have used these on cast iron flanges, these tend to be pitted and not always flat surfaced. You may have to reseat toilet more than once and watch for metal edges tearing the seal. Likewise, plastic flanges that have been previously repaired with metal “half ring” repair kits are uneven and need more deliberate carefulness.

There are other similar products which I have not tried all of yet but in general I make it a point to have at least 6 of these in my stock at all times. I consider them valuable enough of a time saver to warrant the extra cost compared to wax rings.

I’m Chief Engineer at a major hotel and in the same situation as MisterJK. :Wall discharge toilets that won’t hold a wax ring in place. I’ve purchased dozens of these and will continue to. They are great and work well with the rough, rusty toilet flanges we have.

And, they’re reusable. As someone else pointed out, if you have a leaking toilet, it won’t be leaking at the flange. The only problem is that they can be very difficult to find locally.

Works great. Easy install. Would definitely buy again. May never be an issue but only concern is possible long term degradation of the rubber material. Excellent service from Supply House!

I re-set a toilet today using this seal. I have had a small leakage problem for 10 years and nothing i have tried has solved the problem. I have reset the toilet many times, paid plumbers to do the same, and I always end up with a slow leak out the bottom of the toilet.

I am not on my 3rd toilet replacing previous ones to eliminate the possibility that the toilet was at fault. Clearly it is not the toilet. This seal will hopefully be the solution I have been searching for.

Assuming the seal maintains its connection to the toilet horn, I cannot see any way it could leak. Time will tell, but I am optimistic.

Wonderful if you have very small children who like putting things in the toilet. Once this Seal is mounted to the base of the toilet, you can pull the toilet repeatedly without having to replace the old fashioned waxed seal.

Just be sure you buy the right size since some pipes are 3, 3 1/2, and even 4″.

I bought one of these since it advertised as a mess free alternative to the traditional wax gaskets. The installation was definitely easier than wax since you don’t have the pressure of installing it perfectly the first try.

This thing returns to its original shape if you have to redo the installation. Unfortunately, the seal leaked after a day. Upon removal, the waterproof lining on the seal was compromised and became a sponge, as the foam material inside was soaked with toilet water.

I went back to using the trustworthy wax gaskets.

This toilet seal ring is only good for flange rings that are between 3/8″ above and 3/8″ below the floor. My copper flange ring is above the ceramic tile and 3/8″ thick so I hope it will be OK. The part of this seal ring that goes down into the sewer pipe is compressed into the ring because of the packageing, and wants to curl back up and not stay down in the pipe.

The heads on the brass studs are smaller than the original and so I had to put washers under them so they would not pull up through the flange. The brass studs are also smaller in diameter than the original studs, and the brass washers I put under the nuts so that they would not go through the hole in the lip of the toilet ,when tightening the toilet down just bent.

I had to stack 3 steel washers under each nut, which will probably rust. There is a section of the brass studs that is not threaded. This is where the nuts ended up when I tightened them up, until I slipped the previous larger diameter nuts over the studs to act as spacers.

For the price they charge for this ring,I hope the studs are solid brass, so the nut will not rust to it. Do not cut off the brass studs if they are too long. You can gently clamp the top of the stud so you can undo the nut in the future without the stud and nut turning together.

A slot cut into the top of the brass stud for a slotted screw driver would be a great idea.

It’s a great product for the most part but does have some flaws. The pros: It was easy to install, the height of the product was able to accommodate the recessed toilet flange which eliminated the need to stack rings (unlike traditional wax rings).

I installed it with a new toilet, then reused it when I bought an upgraded toilet. Cons: I just had to pull the toilet out so I could replace the toilet flange and the drain line in the basement due to it being damaged.

When I pulled the toilet up i notice the ring was saturated like a sponge, the outside membrane was separating allowing the water to permeate the foam body of the ring. The seal was starting to breakdown around the screw pockets too.

I’ve heard excessive plunging can cause leaks on traditional wax rings, i think this is probably what happened here too. It was in the most used guest bathroom. Great product but limited lifespan and some flaws with the degradation of the material the ring is composed of.

it lasted 6-7 years.

This seal is my go to for all jobs. Yes it costs more than wax rings but it does such a better job. If your remodeling and needed to move the toilet in and out it’s the bomb, it can be reused over and over.

If the flange to low no problem it seals. Uneven floors are not a worry. Should the toilet move the seal moves with it, it’s very forgiving.

I love these. So much better than messy wax rings. They are repositionable and hold the bolts upright and in place for you making it much easier to set the bowl with absolute confidence. These are also a bit wider than the other brands styles which works better for the 60 year old iron closet flanges in my building.

Purchased one of these, several years ago, for a problem seal. I saw where someone had problems with it leaking. You have to clean the old wax off of the bottom of the toilet. Otherwise, NOTHING will stick to it.

I used alcohol. This seal is great! I would have been able to reuse mine, had I not forgotten it was there. When I removed my toilet, to retile the floor, I forgot it was on there, and tore the adhesive ring up, when I set the toilet down.

The plastic part was still like new. Unfortunately, i couldn’t locate one of these, so I purchased a Fluidmaster waxless, that isn’t tall enough to seal. They fail to mention that on their box. It’s going back.

I have used wax rings for over 50 years and only had a few problems along the way. Then I had a toilet that didn’t seal two times in a row when reset. Frustrated, I looked for something better. Fernco has some very simple but highly effective products.

Used according to instructions these seals should insure leak free toilet seals. The price is fantastic. The only caution is that the alignment of the toilet to the flange will have to be exact with this seal.

I have a spare on the shelf for my next toilet jib.

I’ve used these a few times now, and I won’t use a wax ring again. If the bottom of the bottom side of the bowl is thoroughly clean (i. e. , no residual wax, etc. ), the adhesive will stick pretty darn good.

Soap up the flanges as the instructions suggest, it’ll slide down nicely into the drain. Once the bowl is anchored, this seal will work for many years. I swear by this alternative to the wax ring. Just wish it was stocked on the shelf more often.

Wow hard to believe its the same one im using as comment below (Great Expectations) I have installed them on all my renovations for the past four or five years with no leaks. As I am using them on renovations the toilet is pulled and reset at least once sometimes more than once.

Still seals every time. I use then on the $100 specials and last week on a $800 Toto toilet.

These are good if your toilet rocks a bit due to an uneven floor because unlike wax these will stay sealed if the toilet rocks. Wax will just get squished and then leak. The problem I found with these is that they instruct you to add the spacer if the flange is flush with the floor surface which my flange was.

But the spacer is over a 1/2” thick and made of fairly rigid foam that doesn’t compress easily. As a result when you put the bowl on it sits up 1/4” off the floor and you can’t get it to bolt down flat on the floor.

If you don’t include the spacer, it doesn’t make a proper seal. Might be useable if your flange sits 1/4” above the floor or sunk 1/4” below it. Luckily I had an older design of this type of seal from fluid master which fitted perfectly.

It’s a much better design than this new one.

Now you know that if you need a new gasket for under the toilet it’s not a job you want to do often or at least not in the near future. Using the old school wax seal is troublesome because if you have trouble setting the heavy toilet down or need to reposition it at all you pretty much need to replace the wax gasket because if you don’t the chance of it leaking is high.

This gasket holds itself in place using the flange bolts, is a resilient foam that fits snugly with an additional gasket that can be added to supplement the other one in case the distance needed to bridge is greater.

If for some reason you need to reposition the gasket is resilient and will easily allow for a redo or reposition. Fantastic improvement over wax gaskets!!.

Best $11. 00 you can spend to modernize your house however the instructions are oversimplified. Instructions do not mention toilets with a discharge that extends below the base to meet the flange. Even though the flange sits well BELOW floor level the toilet negates the need for the included spacer.

Contrary to the instructions. As a do it yourselfer it always adds unease to ignore provided instructions. My only complaint with the product itself is that the bolts are rather short and I had to reuse the old ones.

Something not mentioned is that this seal also replaces the plastic funnel associated with some wax seals which is easily damaged or displaced with a snake causing further restriction (as was my case).

In the event of a clog this seal’s molded funnel cannot be detached from the seal as it’s all one piece or be easily damaged with a snake. Overall this product is BETTER than advertised and I have no idea why wax seals still exist.

I am a retired plumber. I like to use the wax gasket especially when installing a toilette on a tile floor. I find some toilettes on tile will move around no matter how much you tighten the bolts with the sponge gaskets.

The thicker gasket was used as the new tile floor was slightly higher than the flange for the toilette. In the winter time make sure if the gasket has been sitting in the cold you let it warm up to room temperature.

Never have leaks.

It’s a toilet seal. Lol. What else is there to say. Make sure the wax is warm when installing. The Center part that directs waste into the sewer pipe is a huge benefit for installing it

You provided me a package that had clearly been opened previously (and badly taped back together) during the lockdown period. You’re policy also stated ‘no returns’ during this time so I couldn’t even exchange it for another unopened pack.

Really disappointing.

It’s just as described. The instructions are simple but clear. I used isopropyl instead of rubbing alcohol to clean the bottom of the toilet. The over-all length is about 4. 5″? I should have measured it.

I had a leak at the first PCV connection. The plumbing was such that It would be a real issue to replumb. tear up the wall issues. This seal is long enough to make it past the first joint on my 3in drain.

The lips on the seal are tight in the pipe. I had to really bear down on the toilet to get it all the way down. I should have used a little more soap on the lips, but I got it down. Overall, it took about an hour.

I’m very happy.

Toilet Water in the basement because seal did not hold. UGG! Hope anybody thinking about purchasing will refer to these reviews. Unfortunately we didn’t. Purchased the correct size based on our plumbing for a brand new replacement installation.

Money down the drain. Sometimes old things are still better.

I couldn’t get a commode to seal off with a wax ring. This product took core of the problem

Nothing not to like about this closet flange but I decided to use the Sioux Chief version. Here is why. The cast iron flange and pipe are in good condition but 1. 25″ below the surface of the new stone floor.

I intend to use the original metal flange to anchor the closet bolts which are extra long for this configuration. I also plan on using the Fluidmaster flange seal instead of wax because I was concerned about waste products getting caught on the 3 adjusting bolts inside of the Oatey flange.

The horn of the toilet does not easily slide into the Fluidmaster seal so the instructions that say to put the seal on the flange then lower the toilet into the seal do not work. There is not way to know if the horn went inside of the rubber seal.

So, I will mount the rubber seal on the toilet then lower the toilet with the seal attached onto the flange. When you do it this way, you cannot be sure that the rubber seal goes inside of the bolts that expand the Oatey flange.

I did some tests and it would be a stroke of luck if the rubber seal slid inside of all three bolts. The Sioux Chief 888-GPM is smooth on the inside because it does not have bolts to expand the seal that goes inside of the cast iron pipe.

I tested the 888 in my pipe and the fit is so tight that it took some real work to get it back out. This is good! One more comment about the Oatey flange. If you buy the Oatey spacers to put under the Oatey flange, don’t expect the holes to line up.

This only matters if you want to insert screws down through the pre-drilled holes in the flange and spacers.

I consider this Closet Flange Replacement too be a necessity for repair of broken flanges. Our house was built in late 1972, one of the last to be built with cast iron drain lines. The toilet flanges broke many years ago, and the floors have been tiled, making it difficult to set the toilets correctly.

I used one of these Flange Replacements in the past, and found that they work quite well. I did find that, in our case, they must be tightened up. The first time I used one, the toilet pulled loose almost immediately, so I reset it, and really tightened that flange, which worked well.

I broke a toilet bowl last year, and, since I had tightened that flange real tight, I had to use a reciprocating saw to cut the it out. Then I had a plumber set the new bowl using a new flange. However, he did not tighten the flange sufficiently, and caulked around the base, so the toilet wobbled loose (even with the wedges) pretty quickly.

I ordered this new flange, so I’ll have it when I reset the toilet, if the old one is not reusable, I’ll use more than 2 wedges and sanded grout around the base, as I know it works much better than caulk once set.
