20 Best Webcam For Octoprint (2022 Updated)

I found this webcam with great reviews on Amazon, but the price there is about 10% higher! So I ordered it here and arrived quickly without any membership. It works instantly after I plugged it into the dockstation of my laptop (running Windows 10).

The video quality is so much better than the built-in webcam ( and because I could not use laptops built-in webcam with dock station and multi-monitors ). I am very satisfied with my choice.

The webcam is easy to install and use. The video is more clear than my laptop when using it. And the visual angle is bigger than that, which can show my whole upper body rather than only a big face when meeting.

The microphone is also good enough, my voice is powerful via the microphone. Worth the money!.

I’m considering returning this product because I know its potential and the cost behind it. Let’s start with where this product differs from normal webcams, and how this makes this a very strange product to begin with.

This camera’s sensor is larger than a normal webcam’s, and yet much much smaller than a normal camera’s. You might say this isnt an issue because your phone and most laptops have camera’s much smaller than this one and plenty of them do fine.

This. is the only problem with this camera, and its a major one. Your phone’s front facing camera works by taking the worst image you’ve ever seen, if you’d been able to see the raw to begin with, and using a lot of guess work and processing to get the image to what you see on screen.

This processing includes color correcting, highly advanced noise removal, and in some cases, complete pixel synthesis to create the images we see today. This is not to say those sensors are bad, just that they are essentially all software.

Webcam’s feed on this same design, in that they take what should be a terrible messed up image, and use insane amounts of software on every frame of video to ensure that the photo that comes out might look blurry, out of focus, or like all the detail in the worst cases, is gone.

but the image is noise free and in all likelyhood the best-case scenario out of these cheap sensors as they can squeeze out in hopes you enjoy it regardless of the horrible quality per bandwidth ratio now that USB3 has been a thing for so long.

Big Camera’s, DSLR sensors are of such a greater scale that much less of these various software tricks are actually necessary as they are consuming so much more light and have such better understanding of the raw input due to this amount of light, that they can see much closer to how the human eye sees, and in some cases, much much better as we can control the “Brain” that processes that light into an image.

Pulling color and dynamic range out of places an eye would stumble in dark scenarios. However because of this lower processing, a DSLR may initially appear to produce a noisier image in low light scenarios in all but the best of cases.

Good news with a DSLR~! You can take its raw output from the sensor and throw that into some video or photo editing program and apply those same post processing effects phone’s use to a finer degree and produce an unparalleled image.

It’s range is so much higher that it is worth this trade off. This camera. Falls into an uncomfortable middle ground between these two, and because of it you have to do something crazy to make it work, so crazy in fact that I am considering returning it.

Let me explain. See this webcam’s sensor and range might be better than most webcams but. this says very little, due to the camera being so lacking in post processing, and its range not being high enough to make up for it.

Much of what you can do with this camera in POST will make it look like a normal webcam without extreme amounts of light. To be clear, I am not talking DSLR amounts of light, it is much higher even than that.

Where something like a Logitech webcam may lower its post processing as more light is introduced into the image, this camera has very little from the start, meaning right at the start, a lot of light is needed, and unlike a DSLR, its sensor cannot compensate for gain, at all.

The moment even a little gain in the sensor is added, noise will be noticeable, and colors start to bleach out. I have an 1100 lumen bulb on my left, a 1600 lumen tv backlight, a 1600 lumen desklight, a 1600 lumen bedlight, a 1100 lumen bulb on my right, and a 1050 lumen bulb behind me.

The image, is unusable for any description of recording. There is noise everywhere, and it is unfixable with manual settings. in a small room. Through my testing, I can drop exposure to -4 maximum with high gain (Below medium for this sensor, there is lots of noise) (-13 is the fastest exposure setting for the camera) This should imply that even with a focused bulb at 2800 lumen’s the best I could do is drop exposure one more notch, or remove the gain setting (This camera’s “Exposure Times” are doubled.

Dropping one notch does nothing unless at the slowest exposure speeds, these means the software is lying to you) Also, noise and the “Gain” setting are not completely related (A slow exposure will still produce noise in the image even with gain disabled) Implying again that “Gain” may not be an appropriate word for what the software is actually doing, unless the sensor is noisy by default which by is disproven by watching videos of people with expensive video lighting.

The above means the best combination for removing noise from the base image is to lower exposure to a -5/-6 with 0 gain for this sensor, naturally, without post processing (The least amount of post process work needed) Unfortunately, I have nearly 2200 lumens pointed at my face, and I cannot use these settings without high amounts of gain unless I put both.

Great webcam for dong zoom meetings/calls. It’s a “plug/play” device with no set up required. I use it to conduct a bootcamp class in an exercise room. Here are my pro’s and con’s: Pro’s: 1. Easy set up, fast.

2. Good to average video quality 3. Audio is ok as long as you are in front of computer. Since I’m teaching a class, I’m on the move in front of my computer, but constantly moving 5 to 10 feet away from webcam/computer.

Therefore audio is ok, and sometimes cuts out. Con’s: 1. Audio is my only major “con. ” And I think it’s not fair of me to rate this as a “con” because I’m about 5 to 10 feet away from webcam/computer as I am teaching a bootcamp class via zoom.

Whenever I move in close to the webcam to adjust something, and I happen to be speaking, the audio is great. But once I move back away from webcam, audio is ok, but as mentioned earlier, it sometimes cuts out.

Conclusion, I bought this because I was not happy with quality of my laptop’s webcam, and wanted a “step-up. ” I would recommend this webcam for doing things like zoom or where you are in front of your computer.

I like that it is very easy to use and set up.

For $70, this was cheapest branded webcam. Image quality: Image clarity is good although the colors were off. One needs to install its software and adjust the color, saturation, hue etc. to get reasonable picture quality.

Out of the box the colors were not calibrated well. Logitech Webcam (from 4years ago) was way superior out of the box and had better build and picture quality, although it cost me around $100 then. This webcam’s privacy cover is loose and made of cheap plastic.

I would say the price should be around CAD $40-$50 for this quality. Webcam technology has moved at snail’s pace since so many years, and companies are just selling same junk year after year with hardly any improvement.

At present times, they are reaping the benefit due to remote work at mass level. Price of Logitech webcam is through the roof >$300 for a 4-5 year old model. Imagine buying a phone from 2015-16. :).

As a student and needed something for home for online classes and Laptop camera just doesn’t stand a chance. I had to have. a perfect lightning for laptop camera to work properly. this camera solves all the issues HD clarity with built in selfie light to capture low light atmosphere in my apartment.

I don’t have to worry about moving closer to light source now.

It’s a bit out of date, in that the software is for Win XP or earlier, but it works very well. I bought it because the computer I have doesn’t have a built-in camera, and this clips onto my laptop easily, though the wires are a bit long.

Beware, though: the available software, free to download, may not function on future versions of Windows. It does, however, work well in Ubuntu Linux. All in all, it suits my limited needs of having video calls on Skype, and given how cheap it was ($10) I’d buy it again.

The webcame is a useful item and wether you need it for webcam purposes, taking pictures, or monitoring your computer while you are gone, it has it all. I think the main feature this camera offers is motion detection, where it will record while detecting motion, just in case something happens while you’re gone.

An apparent limitation of this camera when used on a Mac is that the camera doesn’t/can’t save the image settings that you configure in the camera settings app when the camera loses power. So, if you make adjustments to the camera, then unplug the camera and plug it back into the same computer, the camera is again at stock settings.

According to PTZOptics customer support, this is a limitation on the Mac with how Macs handle UVC settings. As a result, you either have to hope your camera/computer doesn’t ever lose power or get unplugged, or take careful notes of the settings you use in the config app so that you can repeat them each time as needed.

This totally rules out the use of this camera on my Mac as I need reasonable image quality every time without fuss. I don’t mind using the software to configure the camera the first time, but needing to do it every time would be a no-go in my book.

I haven’t tried this on a Windows machine, but I assume it would work differently.

Bought this webcam for my wife for some training meetings she leads on Zoom and Googlemeet to place on an extended monitor she uses in her meetings. I was reluctant to purchase such a cheap camera but her company did not give her much of a budget.

Video is much better than her Mac camera and she can look at the at the screen that her audience is on while looking at the camera. It was very easy to connect and set as primary for her training meetings without breaking the budget.

It’s super light, the USB port is super easy to insert, and the camera works great! My computer recognizes it when I plug it in and instantly switches to it. I have a PC. It has great definition. I use it mostly for zoom so I can’t speak to the microphone quality.

It does make reds look more saturated than in real life, but it’s an awesome camera. I don’t use it to film anything so that doesn’t bother me.

I got this camera because my company has moved to video calls Va just audio calls. They aren’t mandatory but now and then my manager will ask that our department have a ‘camera on’ call. So it is nice to have a camera that is not the one on my laptop.

I searched around quite a bit for this one because most cams have way too wide a range. I am in my very messy office that doubles as a craft room. This camera still is a little too wide, but it is better than others I looked at.

I bought a MacBook Air 2020 in 2020 to replace my MacBook Pro that quit working. I was immediately disappointed with the camera quality on the MacBook Air; it was worse than my old MacBook! I have an online interview this week so I knew I needed to do something about my camera quality.

Needing to replace a good quality but aging Logitech webcam, I was encouraged by the Scan reviews for the Ausdom 1080P and it arrived promptly. The camera was fine, in both natural and artificial light, but the mike was really unclear; to the point that others on my workgroup were complaining and I had to hike the Logitech out of the recycling bin.

We persevered,with the Auscom though, spending an hour going through the various settings. We made a little improvement, but it was not a patch on the old Logitech and certainly not good enough for presentations.

Scan ‘Help’ came back to us after 24 hours and perhaps, with effort, could actually have been marginally less helpful. I offered to link up by Zoom to demonstrate the problem. That’s not allowed! All I was told was that the instructions were sent with the webcam.

If there is a problem, here’s the address of Auscom in California. Auscom’s response. after two weeks. nothing. Meantime, I also happened to be buying a cheapish soundbar [not from Scan] to replace old speakers.

Coincidentally it has a built-in mike which is perfect. So now I am using that for the mike. Auscome 1080P. good camera, rubbish mike. Scan after-sales service. shoddy!.

Marketed as a business webcam ideal for skype/zoom/teams/etc. Has great resolution and produces a nice clear image. Ausdom only lists this camera as being Windows compatible, but it works on my Mac desktop with no additional drivers installed.

Cannot comment on the microphone because I use a headset for conference calls. However a couple of negatives – firstly it has a suprisingly wide field of view, capturing most of the room around you if you are sitting more than a foot away, secondly it doesn’t have an indicator led, so you have no idea when its switched on.

This webcam was a huge step-up from using my phone, especially when it came to audio! When recording my sample video, the video seemed slightly out of sync, but this was not a problem I experienced with Skype or other recording programs, so I’m certain it was the software I was using rather than the camera.

Here are some things I love about this little webcam. It has lovely crisp, high quality HD picture. Don’t forget to adjust the lens to focus like I did the first time (I thought it was blurry, but it was basically my own fault).

Once focused the image is really nice and clear and details can be seen. The audio is so much better than the audio on a smartphone, so this is going to be amazing for recording my youtube videos. I love the style, a lot of webcams come in that circular shape that reminds me of a creepy little eye, but this one looks like a little mini camera.

It has a nice sleek black and silver design too. But hands down my fave feature of this is how it attaches to the screen. I’ve found many webcams have a really old fashioned way of attaching, or don’t work well with modern thin monitors, but the Ausdom cam has a flexi-bendable foot that can be positioned into a stand, or used to grip onto a flatter screen like mine.

This means it should work with any type of monitor and I loved that it was so easy to attach to mine compared to other webcams which want you to balance them on top. The only con I had with this product is the software it came with.

I found it wasn’t very easy to navigate and didn’t seem to have a way to start recording (only snapshot). That being said, it’s very easy to install your own software and if using for Skype, you don’t even need one.

I’ve had this camera for over a year and gave up today. I used it with MacBook Pro 13″ 2019. – the camera never worked well out of the box. In dark conditions it was flickering, in bright condition video quality was inconsistent between apps (like FaceTime, MS Teams, Google Meets) – I had to fine tune brightness, exposure, etc all the time – Since OS update to Monterey the old CamEngine app stopped working.

I tried to upgrade to the newer CamEngineV4 but it never worked. First of all installation is not smooth and straightforward, by default it is installed as a folder with no permissions in Applications (red stop sign with no access), you have to change permissions manually.

Then it still does not work as you have to allow it in Privacy > Camera but the app is not on the list! Contacted Avermedia support 7 days ago and I am still nowhere. Feels like you are doing testing of their software for them as they shared a newer (beta) version of the app with you which still does not work.

Have to provide screenshots, their portal does not accept png which is default format for screenshot on Mac, you cannot attach more than one screenshot unless you archive them in a single file, but zip archive is not accepted.

Spare your time and nerves especially if you plan to use it with Mac. It is not worth it.

Given that I work remotely and spend a lot of time in Videoconferencing, I decided to purchase a webcam and not just use the laptop webcam. At first, I was impressed with the quality of the video for this camera that I convinced my partner to get the same.

He did. Fast forward about 18 months for mine and 12 months for his, both cameras started flickering and providing pink video. They are garbage now. Not sure what is the expected life of this Webcam but I was sure hoping to get more than 1 year.

Such as waste.

I’m very pleased with this camera. When Covid first started, I bought one of those cheaper webcams for around £40 thinking it would be good enough for my video meetings. At first it seemed ok, but I did have problems with oversaturation from sunlight coming in through a window.

Additionally, people would tell me it was very hard to hear me. I connected this Logitech Cam and did some test videos and wow, the difference is amazing. The audio is much clearer, it just sounds natural.

And the video. no over saturation. I can whole-heartedly recommend this camera over cheaper ones. It seems you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to webcams. So simple to plug in and set up.

For a webcam, I wasn’t expecting such good quality to be honest! It was great – made video chatting with family much more enjoyable! Picture games are much better now I can partake in the drawing and others can clearly see! It sticks easy, so it doesn’t move when the table is knocked etc but you can adjust the angle and height manually very easily.

Also has a privacy cover – just in case! Looks very pretty sat on top of my monitor but isn’t glaringly obvious! I didn’t realise – which is 100% my fault – that it’s USB-C, so I did purchase an adapter to use it with my computer and laptop but it’s no bother.

For the quality, it’s absolutely worth investing in!.
