20 Best Wedges Golf Digest (2022 Updated)

I will start by saying that this wedge has been amazing. I love using it, and I feel extremely confident around the green. When I upgraded to these wedges, I started firing at pins I would never aim at in the past, and the ‘check’ is amazing.

One or two bounces and it just grabs. I’ve definitely got up and down significantly more using these. Love the performance. My complaint is with the black satin finish. It will wear off and leave some very ugly scratch lines on the bottom of the club.

Bunker shots are especially bad for it. At the end of the day, when you swing the club, you can’t see it, but when it sits in your bag, you will definitely notice it. I’ve had the club for just about a month know and the wear is noticeable.

In a year, I expect most of the paint on the sole will be gone at the rate it is coming off.

This is the first golf club review I’ve ever felt compelled to write. Of course, I’ve had several purchases in the past that I saw improvements with. But, these wedges are absolutely amazing. I can’t think of any better way to put it.

I got the 48 and 54, both your satin and with the mid grinds. I just open the face with the 54 if I need any loft higher than that. No real need for a 58 or higher for me. The feel, balance, and overall performance immediately impressed me.

I have played Vokeys, TM Milled Grind, and Ping wedges in the past. I even tried the CBX2 wedges last year too, but the cavity back feel and irregular shot distances got old quick. The spin that I can achieve with these wedges are on a level I’ve never been able to get with other models.

Even the 48 gets the ball to stop on all shots (chips, pitches & full). My shots are so much more predictable and consistent than I’ve ever been able to accomplish with other models too. One other very noticeable difference too is that the durability with these really confuses me.

Four rounds in, including multiple practice sessions, and it seriously looks like I just picked these clubs off of the rack. Every wedge has always shown wear on the very first shot, which is fine with me because I appreciate the look of aged wedges.

These seriously look brand new. This might only be the case with the tour satin finish though, which is incredibly beautiful by the way. I feel like I finally found some amazing scoring clubs that I will have in my bag for a very long time.

I just received my new Cleveland RTX Zipcore wedges. 54 and 58 which filled a distance gap I used to have with my old 56 /60 combo. I was really learning to like these wedges but yesterday on the 15th hole I fell in LOVE! I had a 80 yard carry over water and hit a hard 58 thought it went to far but it hit back of green and spun back to 1 ft from hole for a birdie 3 and then on 18 same club greenside up and over bunker to save par No putting required they threw them back to me.

Love it. Black satin finish is cool. I chose these because they seemed right in between a Game improvement wedge and a pro blade type wedge easy to hit but still lots of feel. Highly recommend Jim 9 handicap.

I love this wedge. I’m a convert from cleveland CBX and CBX 2. Which, those are good wedges too don’t get me wrong. I am very pleased with the switch and will be sticking with the jaws for a long time.

I thoroughly enjoy the dark finish too. Several times I’ve been blinded by the glare off my wedges. It’s especially difficult to sink a putt when you have blue dots in your vision from the sun stabbing you in the eye off the club face.

With the dark finish you get no glare and can walk up to your putt with your mind at ease and your vision unscathed. Sure, it wears down after a little while of use but honestly I haven’t noticed a depreciation of the finish THAT much and I have been playing with these clubs for around 1.

5 years now. If you read a review that claims it wears off after the first hit. first off that person is lying and secondly, they obviously need to stop hitting it into the bunker. I 100% recommend the dark finish.

Purchased 2 Jaws wedges to replace older wedges with newer technology. I have always been able to spin the ball but these sure put a spin on the ball! I now have to play a little longer to compensate.

Very happy with the playability but, these were supposed to be in Very Good condition. Faces and soles were scuffed and soles were nicked, IMO they should have been rated only Good condition. I have purchased several clubs here over the years with this being my first unsatisfactory review.

Callaway, you need to review your grading process.

I was looking for a lob wedge last year and couldn’t find it anywhere and then I discovered Golf Discoun late in the season. I’m generally hesitant on purchasing from online retailers I don’t know or haven’t heard of but I took a chance and it was AWESOME! Golf Discount had the Callaway JAWs MD 5 60° S-grind with the Catalyst graphite shaft so I ordered, a week later this brand new beauty was in my hands and it has been an amazing addition to my bag! I was so impressed by Golf Discount that I purchased another MD5 wedge in a 48° S-grind approach wedge which has be one my favorite.

Purchased a Taylormade SIM Driver from Victoria Park Golf Club, Brisbane, Australia on 28/12/2021 and after hitting about 20 balls, mostly at a driving range, I have noticed that a small dent has appeared on the toe area of the head.

The little use is also down to the fact I have not played a full round of golf since 27/12/2021 due to a shoulder/neck injury. My handicap is 11. 8. I have both an M4 and M5 driver, as well as Mizuno JPX850 and ST190, and have not had any issues like this with any of them.

I have also owned and played the M2 and Jetspeed drivers as well as a Cobra F9, Callaway Razr X, Callaway XR and Mizuno ST180 drivers over a 10 year period with no damage to any of them. I have played the M4 for about last 2+ years, 3-4 times a week as well as driving range use with no issues.

The receipt from Victoria Park Golf Club lists the club as “2nd hand” however, apart from the dent, it is in a 9. 9/10 condition. There are no ball marks on the face and virtually no scratches on the bottom.

Even where the dent is, shows no evidence of any marks or scratches. The club is virtually brand new. I briefly read your Warranty Terms and Conditions, and note that it applies to first end users only.

However, if you inspected the club, you would see that it has clearly not been used much at all, in fact, probably only by me, such is the condition. I also note that toe dents seem common in several Taylormade drivers, for no real apparent reason, so clearly there is an issue with certain Taylormade drivers Can you please consider whether this damage can be considered under Warranty.

The club is now worth very little, if anything, and I have no idea how this dent will affect performance.

First off, I ordered mine 4-PW, with TT DG X-100 (130g) shafts, standard length, loft, & lie angle. I had the swing weight measured and as expected the 4-9 irons are D3, PW is D4. My decision to go with a 130g shaft (vs 120g stock shaft) added 1 swing weight.

They look amazing and feel great. I have now played 10+ rounds with my P770’s. I wanted an opportunity to hit all the shots before writing my review. My standard shot is higher, longer, with less spin.

Good ball striking is rewarded with great feel and sound. Miss-hits no so much. It took me several rounds to see the forgiveness of these irons is in the final result, not the feel. I can still move ball in both directions, but I would agree with other reviewers that some workability is sacrificed for higher longer shots.

My shot dispersion (including distance) has not been issue. Play from the rough is good. The 4 iron has been the biggest surprise. I’m teeing it up with the 4 iron on shorter par 4’s and consistently finding fairways at 225+ yards.

I can definitely attribute my recent lower scores to that aspect alone. Overall, I’m really happy with my purchase.

Ever since TM launch the P790 series I’ve been playing them. I received the 17′ version as soon as they were released and loved them. There were a few negatives in my eyes, the first was feel/sound. They felt very clicky and didn’t have the muted sound I prefer.

Then there was the hot shots that flew an extra 10-15. This became a more common occurrence for me that became hard to predict. Lastly, they were a bit clunky looking from the top. When the P770 was released last year I jumped on the bandwagon to minimize the hot shots and get a more compact look.

I really loved the look of the irons and the more predictable yardages but they spun a lot for me. The 770’s are more traditionally lofted which means I was adding a lot more spin to the ball which didn’t fit well for my game.

When the new P790s launched that looked more like the 770’s I was immediately intrigued. The sound and feel has improved greatly from gen 1 P790’s. When you look down the shaft the topline is a bit more beveled and is much more appealing.

On the sim I’m getting very consistent numbers. My miss tends to be a toe miss and I’m blown away by the carry distances I’m getting with a toe miss. Normally this is a 15+ yard miss and I’m seeing minimal impact.

The new P790 is everything TM is stating it is, forgiving, low spin, distance iron with plenty of height. Don’t sleep on them.

This will be a strange review simply because I have yet to hit a single shot with these new wedges. Where I live, it snows, and my golf season ended about a month ago. Nevertheless, the Cleveland wedges have a great look and I bought them sight unseen for 2 reasons.

First, the Cleveland name and reputation. I have used Cleveland wedges for many years and in my view they are the best. Secondly, the price. These wedges were $20 to $40 (each) less than other places (and I looked at many both on-line and locally).

My only complaint is the grip. The wedges came with a low end cheap grip which I quickly upgraded. I look forward to using these in the spring after the snow is gone.

Excellent product and as described. The Cleveland CBX 2 wedges provides excellent spin and are very forgiving for most golf players. GolfDiscount came through with everything as stated along with excellent service.

If there was a complaint with the Cleveland Black Satin Wedge is: the black Satin finish is hard to see the club number(s) (which is black paint on black satin) and hard to see when choosing from your bag (50, 56 & 60 gap) My suggestion would be, make the numbers “white” for clarity purpose.

I will modify (paint numbers white). after all, I need to make the correct club choice 100% of the time. Marty Alexander Cincinnati OH.

I have two of these Cleveland CBX 2 in my bag. I found the sales pitch to be correct and spot on about them. Forgiving yet powerful enough for nearly all levels of golfers. I’m a mid handicapper and I’m glad I got them.

I was playing some older Vokey wedges that I’ve had for years. I decided to try something different. I loved the Vokey but I’m going to stick with these now. Try it, you’ll like it!.

Received 2 brand new wedges that had ball marks on both and a chip on one. Send pictures of both and approved to replace both. Received fed ex label but unable to print. Replied back to TGW and still have not heard back.

I needed the wedges for a recent tourn so I kept the damaged wedges. Very disappointed that these were repackaged and shipped. Defects were easy to spot. Also , no follow up on the fed ex question.

This was a replacement for my SM6, 52. I play frequently and the grooves finally wore out. This is probably the 3rd or 4th generation of Vokey wedges I have used. They all have been good preforming. I think the consistency of the playability of these wedges is why they are a fixture in my bag.

They just feel good.

I am a big fan of these wedges. They are great for any skill level player. They look and feel amazing and have performed great out on the course. I got the 58 degree with 8 degrees of bounce and the 54 degree with 10 degrees of bounce.

I typically play on firm conditions and these have given me a lot of flexibility on full shots and around the greens.

Coming from another excellent wedge the RTX 4. Both are great first off. The Cbx2 is even better. It actually is more forgiving. For an example one you are 85 yards to the pin and pin is back of the green let’s say.

If I pulled my rtx 4 56 degrees and didn’t catch it flush it might fly 65 yards to the front of the green and leave me with a super long putt. This Cbx2 seems to not do that and flys further on slight miss hits.

Meaning much closer putts. Out of the sand this wedge is even better. A little bigger sole it helps. The sole grind allows for versatility chipping and pitching as well. I love it! Best club I’ve bought to date.

You really can’t go wrong with a Titleist Vokey wedge. It’s just a matter of choosing the right one for your needs. In this case, I opted to replace my iron set pitching wedge with a Vokey pitching wedge for full shots.

The way it feels, it kind of makes me want to have a whole iron set designed by Vokey. Alas, he doesn’t though. But from 125 yards and in, it gives me all the confidence that I’ll knock it close, which for us mid-handicappers is on the green.

And if not, I’ve got Vokey wedges for around the greens too. My only qualm is that Vokey doesn’t suggest using a metal brush to clean the grooves, which I do sometimes because a towel just isn’t enough.

Thus, the plating or milling can scratch off prematurely. Other than that, it is an excellent club.

The Titleist Vokey SM8 wedge has a great shape which inspires confidence behind the ball. For me how the leading edge looks is really the second most important feature of a wedge. I need to see a clean line from hosel to toe for set-up.

The SM8 wedges have an excellent transition line which allows me to set the club down behind the ball and know I’m going to hit the ball cleanly off any lie. I like the squarer look of the SM8 compared to some previous models.

I know the sitting in the bag position isn’t that important, but that angle looks cool too. The modern flair of the “Vokey Design” slightly cut out looks very nice! Highly recommend.

I purchased this about a month ago and I absolutely love these wedges. I had never played vokey but I did a lot of research and found these were best on the market. My approach play has improved tremendously, and I feel that is with the help of this wedge.

I purchased the 60 degree m grind, and it generates tons of spin to make the ball sit and pull back. If your thinking vokey don’t hesitate great quality club. Since purchasing this club my scores went from low 100’s to low to mid 90’s in about 8 rounds of golf and a couple range days.

I feel soon I will be in the 80’s. I will be purchasing a 56 and a 52 from vokey as well.

Purchased a 56 & 60. With all the complex bounce and grind combinations from competitors, it’s refreshing to find traditional bounce wedges. Replaced 20+ year old 56 RAC Wedge and 60 Cleveland. I really like the heel grind, as well.

These are slightly longer (maybe 5 yards) than my previous wedges but definitely not hot, which is how they should be. I just purchased Callaway blades, but did not like the look of their wedges. Call me a traditionalist.

The feel is perfect off the face and I can work the ball left, right, straight, high, and low. I chose these over MG3’s because I don’t want rusted faces. Another great option would have been the TW Wedges.

Grateful I found the MG1’s while they still exist.

I play once a month. I shoot mid 80s to low 90s. I have a combination of Sim woods and Sim 2 woods. I also have the 3 and 4 hybrids. I also replaced my iron set to M4s. Since I cannot afford to replace my wedges all at the same time, I started with a 60 wedge.

I have been using the 60 wedge for a few months now and it has given me great confidence on shots 50 yards and under. The bounce just suits my swing thoughts. I just bought the 56 wedge. Took it to the range the other day and I have never felt this much control 100 yards and under.

I am super excited to bring to the course.

I bought the 56 and 60 degree wedges to fill the gaps around the green, and I am so glad I did. I have only ever bought the cheap, no name, $19. 99 wedges before, as I figured it didn’t matter. I decided to step my game up with golf and sink some money into the cause.

Over $100 for a wedge seemed so silly when I did it, but now that I have used them a few times, I see why they cost more! Fantastic feel, fantastic response, and I have been able to check the ball on the green! The best part is I haven’t had a single chip with these that rocket across the green a few feet off the ground because I bladed it.

We all know that embarrassing and frustrating shot. I never trusted my wedges before, but I trust these guys. I am sure Taylor Made wants reviews saying their wedges are preferred over other top line clubs, not that they play better than a $20 club, but I’ll say they are easily more than six times better than the six times the cost! Along with my new P790 irons, Taylor Made has a new life long customer!.

To avoid being perceived as a Mizuno fanboi, prior to this T20 52 degree wedge, I used the MP T5 60 and 54 degree wedges. The 60 was for the sand and flops, while I was hoping the 54 would be for work around the greens.

I ditched both, the 60 out of sand was very unforgiving and I generally chunked the 54. I replaced the 60 with a hackers Callaway Sure Out, and yes it works. Deciding less loft was needed for the gap, I took a chance on this 52 degree T20.

Its fabulous, has the legendary Mizuno buttery feel on contact. When lining up the shot, the ability to align the clubface accurately in the direction of the hole is remarkable, meaning I can now chip the ball at the hole instead of in its vicinity.

It has great feel and so chunks are a thing of the past. I do not care for the standard shaft or grip it comes with, but those are replaceable.

Demoed the T20 with SM8, Jaws, RTX, and MG2. This was the best all around wedge for me. Was able to hit my yardages and play all sorts of fun shots around the green. Felt like the others all came up short in different situations.

Went with the 56 /10 and 60/06 options. Love the grind here. Ball pops out of bunkers with great spin, checks up on pitches and spins a good amount on flop shots. Can open the club and keep the leading edge low or get really up right and play to down chips.

Tons to work with here. Love the fact that I didn’t need to pay extra to get S400s put in the club, gives the right weight and feel for a wedge.

Have been looking for wedges to complement my MP 223’s in the bag and these fit the gapping beautifully. Has that same feel that I love with my irons. Was actually very shocked with how much control it gives on short pitch shots/greenside shots.

Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great all around performing wedge.

I’m back into regular golf after 20+ yrs. playing once a year or two. As I looked at updating my clubs, I became intrigued by the one-length concept. My only formal instruction was a summer session college class, and we only learned to hit 7-8-9-W.

So, as I got more committed to getting back into the game and wanted some quick results, the one-length approach intrigued me. Best decision I have made aside from building a full-scale golf obsession to start.

The ease and consistency of using a 7-iron stance & swing through the bag has given me complete confidence that I can get my scores into the 80s quickly with regular play. If you are just taking up the game or are a casual player planning to get more serious, I strongly encourage you to consider getting into One-Length irons & hybrids.

I started my new set with Forged Tec O-L in the higher lofts, and SpeedZones in the lower. I am now a 5-iron away from a full bag of Forged Tecs. As most of the other reviewers have mentioned, there is a high level of forgiveness while giving you the look, feel, and control that you just can’t get in the heavier game-improvement heads.

Ball flights are penetrating, and distance control and roll-out are outstanding: you can be completely confident in your shot landing at the expected distance and zone as long as you don’t have a major miss on the club face.

Most of all, these irons make me want to practice! They really provide the feel and performance to make you confident that if you can just keep getting better and more consistent, you can eventually get really creative in the shot-shaping.

Bottom-line: I’m extremely happy that I chose Forged Tec One-Length, I’m telling everyone I play with about it, and I’m looking forward to years of enjoyable rounds with them.

I love these wedges. Do I see a huge difference between the CBX two and the ZIP Code? Not really. I will say that I am spinning the balls more aggressively and at a higher RPM with the new wedges, but that may simply be because they are new wedges and the grooves are fresh.

I love this brand and the feel of their clubs, but I also like buying new clubs just to buy new clubs. If you’re in the market for a wedge because yours are out of date over three years or older. I would highly recommend these.

Still getting used to them, bought a 52, 57, and 60 degree wedge. Used to play with 12 year old Cleveland wedges wondered why I purchased these. After making a few changes and practicing with them I played much better.

Hit some great shots with my gap wedge. Gaining confidence with these. Also went firm a steel shaft to a graphite shaft that might have thrown me off. Otherwise feeling much better about my purchase.

I bought the 50, 56 and 60 degrees. These are great around the greens. Chipping is much easier and they do help prevent digs. I’ve learned to play a max 75 percent strength with these. Whenever I try to hit full shots, I lose control.

These have become my new go to wedges for this season.

I have never had good luck with Cleveland wedges, for nearly 30 years I have used Mizuno, Bridgestone or Titleist. I decided to try one of these in a different loft and the tour satin. I loved how consistent the flight is and i could hit it low or high with ease.

The spin was very consistent as well even when I had a mishit toward the heel. If you hit it a little high on the face out of rough, it doesn’t seem to loose as much spin as the SM8 that I was playing.

I switched to the black version in all of my RTX wedges due to glare. After playing a couple of times late in the day, I knew that was necessary. I am glad I switched.

Bought 3 RTX Zip Core wedges. I liked the ability to have low, mid and full bounce options so that I could create a wide range of shot capabilities. Initially, the Zip Cores feel heavier than other wedges I have had previously.

After a few short practice sessions, this perceptions goes away. The wedges are very accurate while also providing forgiveness. Shots from chips all the way up to full shots maintain the line. Being a little off from the sweet spot does not result in a significant miss from the original target.

The club provides great feedback both to the hands and audibly. The sticks are already paying dividends on the scorecard.

I’ve never had quality wedges before. My previous iron set came with a PW, SW and Lob so I just used those. Recently got new iron set and needed to fill in the wedges. I did a full fitting and tried out numerous brands.

The Zip Core’s just felt the best in my hands and off the ball. Solid contact but lots of feedback on the ball. Some were too mushy, some were too rigid (although had great spin), but the Cleveland’s had just the right combo.

They have a good head weight so they stay on the swing plane and they seem very versatile to open the face for creative play. First trip on the course was last weekend and they were great. I got three wedges in the lofts and bounces that I wanted.

Take the time to get fit for lofts and bounces to make sure you have all your gaps filled in. It changes the game from 100 yards and in.

I stopped in my local golf store and fitter I have worked with for years. I was wanting to add/replace my 60 deg. Wedge. Wanted one for tight hard pan lies with lower bounce and the ability to open for flop shots etc.

around the green. Went in to look at Vokey and Callaway specifically. He asked if I had an aversion to Hi-Toe and I said no. He put a Hi-Toe 3 , 60 deg. 7 deg bounce in my hands. It set up beautifully for a tight square shot, a tight flop shot, etc.

I do not think I ever have put a wedge in my hand that set up for everything I need and I felt I wasn’t sacrificing a particular shot due to the grind. Plus, the simplicity of the offering is less confusing.

Since this was the last one and he had, sold all the others he got in this week, I bought it on the spot, so not me. I went home and hit balls of the wooden floor, so me. I will do a follow up review once I get out and do some practice on the chipping green.

Grooves all the way over and up work well in any condition. I went with the s300 DG shaft which is a lower launch. I have a high ball flight on everything so it it helps me keep the chip shots down. Which by some would still be considered high.

I also have the MG3 with standard shaft that comes with its a Mid to High launch. Basically I had the MG3 54 and 58 degree eliminated those 2 and went with the 56 degree Hi Toe and can pretty much do everything I could with the 54 and 58 but combined them into one with the Hi Toe 56 degree.

Flop shot is the only thing that I cant accomplish as well as I could with the 58. But the 56 allows me to give them a bit of roll. There more that goes into this but hope this helps someone else. Many different types of plays with this wedge.

Finally rid myself of my cheap Sand wedge and what a difference straight away, I notice a significant difference in spin. Playing one round I put two shots within 3 feet of the pin and the ball is sticking where it needs to.

I also got the 52 degree gap wedge and have also noticed it plays really well also. Highly recommend these, playing shots around the green off the toe (with the SW) gives you so much more confidence to strike hard, but still create enough spin to not have the ball roll off the other side.

I did change the grips on these though, I’m not a big fan of the stock grips, I like a tackier grip and I ended up getting the Golf Pride Tour Wrap (which I have on my LW) Jumbo, which has been an adjustment but way better than the stock grip.

Will definitely be upgrading my LW to this wedge also.
