20 Best Weed Fertilizer 2022 (2022 Updated)

My house is in a new build subdivision and I have right at a half acre. Like most subdivisions the land is old pasture field and had tons of weeds. The builders only sod about 50 feet and the rest they lay seed and straw.

They did not treat the soil to my knowledge before laying sod. We closed in November of 2020 so the next spring our yard was basically a weed field. So we turned to tru green’ our first mistake. Their weed and feed is an awful mixture, it really did not work as they described and we just had a bad experience.

So fall of 2021 I decided to take care of the lawn myself. I bought the bio advanced weed and feed and laid the first application and by mid October our grass looked great. So this spring I have used it again and our grass is healthy and very few weeds.

I just pull them up if I notice them. I will apply two yearly from hear on out. It takes about 5 of the big bags to do the whole lawn. Takes care of crabgrass and dandelions, basically any standard pasture weed.

I will definitely recommend to anyone looking to stop using lawn care services that charge a fortune for low range results. Our grass is green and healthy and one of the best in the neighborhood.

We applied the product and watered it in gently for two days following application. At the time of application, the lawn was a bit stressed in areas due to sustained dry days with no watering. The lawn had several spots of crabgrass emerging and starting to grow rapidly.

There were some, but minimal weeds present. Within four weeks the lawn had greened up nicely and began to fill in the stressed spots. There was visible evidence the crabgrass was starting to struggle with its growth.

The weeds that were present were either gone or showed signs of struggling. At observation seven weeks after application the crabgrass had completely died off, weeds were not evident, the lawn had thickened up and was a beautiful green.

We are thoroughly satisfied with the benefits that this product had promised and has now delivered. The one negative feedback would be the odor. Following application, it was difficult to have windows open in the cottage, sit on the patio, or spend time in the yard for at least a week due to the strong odor of the product.

I am giving my review for the 5 in 1 weed and feed I received. I had to put it down a little late in the season because I had already put down a fertilizer prior to hearing about this. It seemed to kill all of the weeds except the ivy that I have.

I don’t blame the product as nothing seems to get rid of ivy so I didn’t expect it to. We had a bad drought this year and I do not have lawn sprinklers for watering. So I didn’t see much difference in how thick the grass got.

I suspect it is still in shock from the unusual summer we had. I also suspect that my soil may be acidic and in need of some lime which would have helped the fertilizer work better. Overall I think it would have worked better if I could have waited a couple more weeks before reviewing and was able to put it down earlier in the season.

I have had luck with Bayer products in the past and would still give this a shot next year. I think this year’s circumstances were unfair to the product. being tested. An update to this review: after a few more weeks my lawn looks nice and green, supporting my previous claim about it being in shock from the drought.

I applied this product, as directed, to my whole lawn last year, 2016. Three days later, yes, you read that right, THREE DAYS LATER, every leaf had fallen off my full grown Bradford pear tree. Not only did this product kill my tree, but it didn’t kill patches of clover.

Luckily, it did not harm my shrubs or roses. I waited until this spring, in hopes that it might come back, before having it removed. The twigs and branches just snapped off! It was quite sad, as this was the only shade I had in my front yard.

Immediately after the leaves fell, I sent in a copy of receipt and barcode, and the company did refund the cost of the product. I also told them that if the tree didn’t pull out of the damage, that I would be contacting them this spring, which I did.

At first the company seemed concerned and wanted to work with me on the cost of removing the dead tree and replacing with a new tree. Upon receiving copies of my costs to remove the dead tree and stump, and estimates for replacing the tree, they immediately started balking and refused to pay for ANY removal/replacement costs.

Save your trees and leave this product on the shelf!.

I still have weeds! I used Scotts triple action earlier in spring. And now Scotts Weed and Feed. Yet I still have weeds. Not happy

I applied Scotts Weed & Feed two weeks ago. The weeds are dying and the grass has greened up. It was easy to apply with my John Deere spreader set at 3 1/2. The material is a fine grain material, but it went on well.

There were a couple of clumps but they broke up easily. I’ll buy it again.

I wouldn’t blame this product for the lack of progress it made on the lawn since dandelion are the hardest to get rid of. Since I bought my house no matter how frequent I mow the lawn they always return.

I was having high hopes but all this product did was wilt them a little that day and then sprung back the next day. It was suppose to be a weed killer plus grass feeder but somehow it kill some places and made dead brown patches in my lawn.

Maybe I’ll have to try light sprinkle the next time around and see it goes that time around.

This is a great product and I always start off Spring spreading weed and feed fertilizer for my lawn. I always have good luck using this product. Eliminate the weeds and add fertilizer for optimal growth.

It very easy to spread using my speed spreader. After I applied to my lawn I had a couple of days light rain that broke down the pellets quickly. Now I will sit back and get the mower ready to start mowing.

I sought this product out to de-weed my small yard, mostly from dandelions and also help feed the grass. I used as per the instructions and applied after a light rain about a month ago, so far there has not been any new weeds popping up, so that is a major plus and my grass is really coming in lush in areas that were lacking the nutrients it needed.

It has been raining a lot in my area so once the spring showers have moved on I will be reapplying and I’m pretty sure my weed problem will be fixed. Definitely glad I found this product.

I used this product exactly as directed, and now I have huge, brown patches in my once beautiful lawn. This product is too strong for regular lawns. I have used Weed and Feed for years, but usually another brand, and had excellent results.

Even the landscape specialist who saw what happened to my lawn and examined the granules said that the product is too strong and the chemicals destroyed my lawn – but, the weeds are doing quite well! Very disturbing to say the least.

Second season using their 2 step subscription program ( spring/fall) My lawn was in rough shape after the 2020 drought. Applied the Spring treatment in 2021. and we had a record rainfall. so I had very green grass that grew very fast.

But I had much less crabgrass and weeds. I then applied the Fall treatment. This spring( 2022), my lawn came in and greened up really fast. with very few danidlions. Applied the Spring treatment. the few weeds I had have disappeared.

and the lawn has stayed green through some dry spells. So far, so good. the best fertilizer I’ve ever used. Although. that darn grass does grow faster! LOL.

This GreenView Fairway Formula Spring Fertilizer with Crabgrass Preventer works great. It is a good quality lawn fertilizer. It made the lawn greener and thicker. My yard needed help and I have been impressed with how much and how quickly this has helped it.

I love that it has the crabgrass preventer in it, so I don’t have to use different products. It prevents crabgrass for 120 days, and provides slow release nitrogen for extended feeding up to 12 weeks.

It was very easy to use too. I would definitely recommend it.

This product worked really well on my weeds killing the dandelions and eliminating the patches of clover I had. I haven’t treated my lawn in a few years so the weeds were very noticeable. I put this product down on a wet lawn and watched it work.

The next day I could see that it was working on the weeds, not just the dandelions and clover, but the other stuff too. It rained two days after I applied the weed & feed and that’s when I really noticed my lawn start to green up also.

Overall, very happy with this product and will buy again for next year.

This is a bit different of a process than I’m used to with my lawn care, the application timing is a lot later than previous treatments. I like to get a good start on lawn care so using this so much later made me a bit uneasy, applying it while the weeds are growing as directed doesn’t leave much wiggle room for adjustments if anything goes wrong- not impossible but not ideal or easy when your in ths thick of it.

I am definitely starting to notice how well the lawn likes the food, the weeds are less as well. I like the ease of application, once you get timing and conditions from mother nature its a breeze. The 3 in one benefits are nice and while it has improved my lawn, it doesn’t give me the full effects Id prefer given the price and amount product needed.

On top of time and energy still needed to put into seedig and the additional applications it isnt the best product for my needs. I received a free sample to review and since the area the bag covered did have results it’s not a dud- but not enough for me to buy more to adequately cover my entire lawn for the season.

Preen always gives my lawn the look I want — green and weed-free. I’m giving Preen One an early four stars, based on past Preen results. I reseeded my lawn by the book last fall (Oct 17) using a slit seeder and Titan Tall fescue seed. By March/April my grass was amazing, the best in the neighborhood. Thick green and lush! I applied Preen One in March ( I am in Charlotte NC) to take advantage of its pre-emergent as well as existing weed control.

The few weeds that I had were gone within a couple of weeks and the grass looked great. I had to mow it twice a week. Then 8 wks later I applied Preen one again, as recommended, and as directed. Within two weeks large patches of my grass were turning brown.

Now it looks terrible. We have had plenty of rain, and I cannot fathom any other reason for the dead grass. I am very disappointed after spending so much time and money this year to finally have a great lawn.

When I was 18 or 19 I lived in a house with a neglected lawn and for some reason decided to try this. Yard was full of clover, dandelions, and other weeds. Had large area bare spots of N. C. red clay around trees.

I put it down heavy just once and it killed off about every weed. Big patches of weeds became bare spots then the grass filled in and thickened, turned a nice darker green. Grass started spreading to the red dirt spots.

Neighbor across the road could tell a difference from her house a good distance back from the road away from ours and asked me “what did you do to your yard? It looks good”. I’d recommend putting it down a bit heavier than instructed if you have a serious weed problem as long as it won’t run into a creek or other water source.

Be ready to mow the yard because it will make your grass grow.

Have had good results with Scotts Crabgrass Preventer. Its finer texture seems to provide more even application compared to the larger granules in other brands. It claims to be “season-long” protection vs.

3-4 months as mentioned by some competitors. I just applied it a few days ago, so only time will tell if the current product works as well at preventing crabgrass as it has in the past for me. My frustration with the product solely lies with BJ’s.

I discovered that a special/reduced price on the website was only for online orders. In- store pricing was $5 higher. NO WHERE WAS THAT MENTIONED in the online posting. I had to place an online order, then return to do a store pickup.

I do not like killing things but I also dont like rodents in my house. I live in a rural area and we get mice in the house occasionally. I use the tomcat traditional mouse traps in my attic and in accessible places.

They work extremely well and are super easy to set up. My dog can be attracted to them as I use peanut butter to lure the beasts and i am always afraid he will get his snout snapped. I decided to try the Tomcat Rat & Mouse Killer Child & Dog Resistant trap.

Also super easy to set up. We haven’t had any mice try it yet, but I feel good about having it out in the open with the dog being loose. I recommend them to all of my neighbors. Great product.

It is very durable and strong, Its easy to handle and can be placed wherever it’s needed. It can be placed against the wall or just on the floor. This is disposable and safe. The bait is already in the station, so no need to be handle any bait at all.

Overall, a really good trap that works really well.

The mice are starting to come into the barn and garage as the cooler weather is drawing them to the warmth. We keep feed in these locations to include dog food, chicken feed, corn and grain. Unfortunately the mice like to eat these products as we notice holes in the bags.

This product is simple to use and works to curtail the amount of mice we have to deal with each fall and winter. Thank you for a great product, Tomcat.

I purchased this for the first time about 8 years ago I think and I have been using it in my flower garden ever since. I’ve tried using other brands/products because for what ever reason I wasn’t able to get Miracle-Gro Shake ‘n Feed All Purpose Plant Food, but the other brands/products have never made my flower garden look as beautiful as Miracle-Gro Shake ‘n Feed All Purpose Plant Food does.

I like that every three months I go out into my garden and just sprinkle this Miracle-gro Shake ‘n Feed all over the ground around my flower plants, then water like always and it’s that simple. Used as 2nd fertilization this season (Scott’s Step 1 early spring) on 2nd year seeded Jonathan Green Black Beauty lawn. Grass greened up in a day! Will update on crabgrass control.

Here’s what so-called pros rarely, if ever tell you, and I found out the hard way! This stuff does work, but you have to use just about the lowest setting possible. no more than a 3-4. Otherwise it’s too concentrated and will burn the loan, particularly after temps are consistently above 75 or so.

I also found that you can use the product about every 4 weeks or so, but again, use a low setting. It may not get ALL the weeds or seeds, but it will still look great. Also, continue to overseed ALL summer & water as much as your budget (or wife) will allow.

Allow for seed that’s just not gonna catch, birds & squirrels getting their fill as well as heat. Whenever feasible, also try to cover the seed. I have found that potting soil actually works better than top soil.

It costs more, but start doing it in stages. Any “program” actually takes a couple years anyway, regardless of what Scott’s says. Finally, in the fall, use step 4, but about January, there is a product not in the 4 step program, but made by Scott’s that I can’t think of.

It’s just a fertilizer I think. Use that & wait about 10 weeks before using step 4. Good luck.

I got this on a bit late and already had a fair amount of post-emergent clover. The clover is gone after two weeks. However, I made the mistake of applying extra to a few areas where there was a lot of cover.

Clover is now gone but I have some mild burning of the grass in those areas. Apply as directed and don’t overlap too much with the spreader or over-apply, or you could get brown patches. Where applied as directed my lawn looks great and the clover did get under control.

I spent a lot of time, sweat, and money on preparing my front lawn for reseeding, and over seeding. I did everything right, except find and read these other reviews for this product. Top soil was raked evenly, this Step 1 for Seeding was spread according to the correct distribution, seed was spread.

Whole lawn was rolled, fluffed up, and watered properly at dawn and dust. It has been 17 days without a single seed germanization. Nothing! My local garden store recommended this product, and I have since shared the story with them and to never recommend this product to anyone again.

Extremely dissapointed with this product!.

Comparing this to Scotts Turf builder: Ingredients are similar N/P/K is 29-0-4 compared to Turf builder’s 32-0-4 It costs a fair amount less As Scott’s says; their pellets are all in one. I can see that as a potential benefit as their fertilizer will be a 32-0-4 mix everywhere it is spread.

The Ace brand does have separate pellets, so if they are not evenly mixed, it will not be a 29-0-4 mix everywhere it is spread. BUT to my eye, it was evenly mixed. AND the pellets did not stick together like what happens with Scott’s fertilizers I have used.

Another reviewer complained that it did not work well with his Scott’s drop spreader. For my Scott’s hand held broadcast spreader, the fact that the pellets did not stick together made it work better than Scott’s fertilizers for my spreader.

I am going to stick with this.

Usually, I buy the Scotts 4 step program, but, this year I decided to try the ACE brand since it was cheaper. My Review isn’t really based on the effectiveness of the product as that is yet to be seen, but, more about the application.

I have a Scott Elite spreader that is 1 year old. The step 1/2/3 use 3. 5 for spreader settings. I didn’t change this when adding the ACE crabgrass and very little was coming out. The yellow crystals appear quite larger than Scotts.

The bag says to use setting 4, but, that was even low. I ended up bumping up to 4. 5 to get correct distribution. So word of caution is to increase your number if coming from Scotts.
