The 1 star is for how biased the author is with regards to men issues and trauma in men (which I find astonishing, given, by the account of the book, he seems a leading authority in the field). Not only throughout the book he presents women as the only (or vast majority of) victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse, but somehow he also perpetrates the widespread narrative of men perpetrators&abusers, women innocent victims – in the book, the vast majority (all?) of sexual/DV perpetrators discussed are men, the vast majority of sexual/DV victim examples are women (the notable exception being a men who as a kid was sexually abused by a priest – unsurprisingly in my view, as it perfectly fits the stereotype of when it is acceptable to discuss sexual abuse of males).

Ironically, he involuntarily confirms the existence of this bias when he references researches done on these subjects. Some examples (I have the hardback copy, 2014 edition, so far Ive read up to page 220 of 356): on page 145 , he presents some of the questions asked for a research study (ACE study) on adverse childhood experience: “As a child, did you witness your mother sometimes, often, or very often pushed, grabbed, slapped, or had something thrown at her?” or “As a child, did you witness your mother sometimes, often, or very often kicked, bitten, hit with a fist, or hit with something hard?”.

Either a similar question was asked with regards to the father being the victim and nearly noone answered positively or the question was not asked at all. Given it is becoming to be widely recognised now that up to 40% (and many believe more, given that men tend to underreport more than women) of DV victims are males, I believe the latter is true.

On page 146, he writes “women in the study were asked about rape during adulthood”. Why was not a similar question asked to men? Note also: is the author aware than in 2012 the FBI changed the defition of rape because The old definition of rape did not include male victims of rape (1) and it included only forcible male penile penetration of a female vagina(2).

The new definition, in addition, recognises women can rape men by making them penetrate against their will (3). There is a petition now trying to change the UK legislation too so that women who rape men are included in the law (4).

Somehow the big ego of the author (poorly comuflaged with fake humbleness) is also rather annoying, but you can get thorugh it if you dont mind the above bias.

I find this bias really upsetting and paradoxical for a book on trauma, which is a shame because the book is otherwise very informative and useful. I read the first chapters really enthusiastically (5 stars up to then), but since the gender bias started, Im reading it in piece meals, absorbing whats useful for my recovery on one side, managing the boiling anger on the other.

This book has lots of old, dated information, especially about EMDR. I had a bad one time experience with EMDR with a so called professional and had a very severe reaction to it. Please be very careful perusing this “cure” because it can bring up so much that you will not be able to tolerate the results.

IT is destructive and sometimes what is buried deep in the mind and forgotten should stay that way. DO YOUR RESEARCH CAREFULLY on any medical professional that you see because I had a few that were either drug pushers or just are bullies.

I actually threw this book out in the trash as I know what works for me now.

This book is great for everyone. It is informative and brings out the truth of what took place in America. It talks bout America’s history with chattel slavery and the divisiveness that has been created.

We speak well of people like Thomas Jefferson who was a racist slave owners that raped his slaves that were only considered three-fifths a person. This book points out the contradictions and brain washing that took place in order for slave owners and whites to become rich off of the back of Africans and African-Americans.

It’s important to look at the character of people.

This was an amazing book!!! I bought it for my daughter who has been trying to get help for PTSD, but nothing out there was helping or working for her. Once I started reading, I could not wait to finish!! It is simple, easy to understand with equally simple solutions and self help for anyone suffering with PTSD.

I have read Cathy’s other two books and as a mental health nurse myself was keen to read this book. I loved the book and will use the tips within my own life and when helping others. I intend to share this book with a friend who has had childhood trauma and recent trauma in her adult life which is currently very raw.

I will then review again how she found the book. I would like to wish Cathy and Mark all the very best in their fight to be heard and free others from their trauma and thank them both for sharing this journey and allowing others to have insight.

Another excellent book from Cathy O’Brien. This book is very much needed now in this political climate where people are still brainwashed into believing that ‘they’ wouldn’t do things like that, that if this was really happening then ‘we’d hear about it on the news!’.

It is a very sad and extremely traumatic fact of life that ‘they’ DO do this and in ALL sections of society. It is very well hidden. This book helps to put right the wrongs that have been done to survivors.

I highly recommend PTSD: Time To Heal – it is written by a supremely courageous survivor who has been through hell and back and now wants to sincerely help others.

Used with Tenacity as recommended by them to control common Bermuda Grass in a tall fescue lawn. Applied over the entire lawn. The Bermuda Grass might need a few spot treatments to totally eradicate.

Tenacity is my go to weed killer.

This product works well if you have marathon. However, some weedy grasses are very hard to control despite this effectiveness of this product. Overall it kills all weeds, but it doesn’t kill all types of grasses.

This books brings clarity to so much. I have struggled with life despite over 20 years of counselling. This book has helped me understand what and why and gives with understanding, grace, care and gentleness provides insights and a toolbox that have the power to chip away at the issues that hold me back.

It will not happen overnight but with this book by my side I see a way through. My counsellor is reading it too. CPTSD (complex Trauma / Complex PTSD) provides understanding of childhood trauma that had no physical signs – while sexual and physical violence is abominable what is not generally well known, even though it is now well understood by researchers is that emotional trauma has the same effect on the brain of growing child as physical trauma.

This is a breakthrough book for those whose depression and anxiety doesn’t seem to entirely lift even with a lot of good and appropriate treatment. I always had the idea that trauma and PTSD was something people experienced after war or emergency catastrophe situations.

I have used this to clear Texas Hill Country prickly pear cactus and it is devastating. I mixed it about 35:1 with pump Diesel for clearing fences and knocking down unwanted prickly pear cactus stands using a tractor and a large sprayer.

I sprayed a larger cactus stand, about 20′ x 6′ tall, and waited. In a couple of days the leafs showed signs of stress. In a week it looked very sick. In a month it was flat on the ground and dying to dead.

I sprayed that plant 5 years ago and it has not returned. The leaves dry up into gray dust and eventually wash away. This stuff works. Wear a respirator when spraying.

This stuff is superior to Roundup (nothing against good old Glyphosate, it has its place!) , as it offers extended control as well. Use caution around woody plants, especially trees, as it can harm them as it goes through bark.

Offers some extended protection as well. Great for poison ivy, oak, and sumac. Not sure about water resistance, so apply it sometime before rain or sprinklers so it has a chance to work.

Bought this stuff to use in combination with glyphosate to etadicate troublesome woody brush, etc. , around my house. So far it appears to work very well in eliminating elm, mesquite, and four winged saltbush.

I just purchased my next two bottles of Weed-Aside. Agreed that it does not go very far but it works superbly. I put it in a spray bottle that had an adjustable spray and made a very fine stream. Where to start. This book is extremely well written–Mary Trump has an eloquent writing style, but yet one that is easy for the reader to understand. This book was not what I was expecting. it ended up being a history lesson in slavery, inequality, and white supremacy.

Every now and then, Mary Trump interjected comparisons about her “Uncle Donald” where he was aligned with the darkest aspects of American culture and societal norms (which I happen to agree with). I thought I was already very familiar with slavery and black suppression; however, there were stories and examples I had not heard about, which were very telling.

I would recommend this book to all Americans to read–it’s about our past (going back to the Founding Fathers) and into current days. As Mary Trump states, we have to look at our past and engage in the tough discussions to be able to chart a path forward to true equality for EVERYONE, not just whites.

The only reason I gave it a 4 star vs a 5 star is because the book, as I continued reading, seemed to become angrier and angrier. She moved from writing an objective fact-based research project to a book that was deeply personal to her where she was presenting anger and a one-sided “all whites are wrong” approach.

This history is a deeply troubling time period (which continues in different ways today), so I certainly understand the emotion. However, I also think she hurt her message in the last 2-3 chapters. She certainly comes from “white privilege,” and I’ve not seen any activism or change leadership on her part to try to make a difference.

It’s one thing to write about injustices–and she has an interesting vantage point that none of us have; but when you put that much anger and emotion into that writing, I would expect to see “putting your money where your mouth is” and start standing up for what you believe through activism, leadership roles, and organizational initiatives.

It’s a good history lesson. one we all should read.

As an extended family member, who knows the Trump family history, is articulate and happens to be a clinical psychologist, Mary Trumps perspective is invaluable. Her book will never persuade Trumps cult followers, but to those of us who are interested in factual analysis, it is a very good read!.

This book was a revelation on the subject of race. And like it or not there were horrible things that were done to people of color. America can be better but unfortunately there are forces who dont want that to happen.

Terrible book. He’s normally so good but in this book i kept finding long explanations of how trauma gets caused then very little on how to heal it. For example, The entire chapter on sexual trauma just went into detail about causes of trauma, NOTHING about how to heal it.

Made me feel WORSE after reading it.

This is an essential book as a resource tool for working with clients and yourself to understand the basics of Trauma and Attachments. Peter Levine provides multiple examples from his cases studies of clients and his own lived experience of Trauma and Trauma recovery.

The dandelions were so bad and obnoxious in my yard and I could never seem to get rid of them. And then I discovered Sunday Dandelion Doom! I sprayed this and within 48hrs I had a yard full of black wilted dandelions.

Does kill the weeds but be careful it doesn’t discriminate between your grass and weeds. I spot treated and then pulled up weeds. Since using Sunday my lawn has improved. It still has a long way to go and that’s because it was never taken care of.

Sunday makes lawn care easy. I stood in Lowe’s for hours trying to figure out what to put on my lawn. Sunday took all that guess work away and probably saved me $100s.

I’ve used Weed Warrior on my toughest weed (purple violet) and on persistent weeds that grow in the cracks of our driveway. Within hours, the weeds are dead and so is my grass (the label clearly states it will kill grass too).
