20 Best Weedkiller For Lawns (2022 Updated)

I’m HAPPY with Gordon’s Speed Zone. Used 1 bottle in my 21 Gallon pull behind sprayer. Creeping Charlie was flowering purple, which I’ve been told is a must for weed killers to work. Two days later and it’s all turning brown.

As well as dandelions, clover, and other weeds.

Don’t waste your money on granular weed killers, spray applications is what gets the job done! Easy to apply also, just make sure no rain is expected and spray on a dry lawn. I did a lot of research online and got pointed towards this product.

Last year I used this on a hose attachment and covered the entire yard. Put down a second treatment on the really bad areas. One area that was really bad with ground ivy it is totally gone now. This year I am using it in a tank sprayer since a lot of the yard is cleaned up.

Sure enough 24hrs later I can see the ground ivy and some of the dandelions starting to die. I have covered almost the entire yard with spot treatments once and only used 4oz (filled my two gal sprayer twice).

I have these stubborn weeds in my yard that I have tried most everything on. I purchased the Speed Zone Weed killer and put down one application. Within a week the weeds have started to die. I definitely will need to apply a second application after two weeks, but I am very delighted with the results of the first application.

Will definitely purchase the product again when needed.

This stuff just flat out works. Like many have said, it takes a bit for it to show results, but rest assured, it will kill whatever you spray it on provided you FOLLOW THE IMSTRUCTIONS on the label. I guess some have quite unrealistic expectations but hey, it does the job and you save a bunch of monye vs the Big name brands.

I mean isn’t the point that the weeds end up dead? You cand overspend if you wish or you can save money. Either way the weeds end up dead. Not a hard choice for me. Don’t listen to anyone who says this stuff doesn’t work.

They probably expected way faster results and were disappointed at the speed. It kills weeds. PERIOD.

Can’t get this in our local stores anymore. I still need to take care of our estate and that means getting rid of vegetation overgrowth. This stuff does the job like no other! Mix 3 ounces to a gallon of water, add a little surfactant (I use Dawn soap) spray it on the leaves of the undesired vegetation.

all dead in a few days. Used it to kill several small trees as well. It’s great stuff! Its 41% glyphosate and it works. Great price too! 2. 5 gallons should last a while but I’ll buy several more before the end of 2021.

They will probably outlaw it like everything else. Buy some today, keep your yard looking great!.

It killed the weeds and some grass. It doesn’t permanently kill weeds. They dry up and die but come right back. It does however kill every bird, squirrel, and rabbit that gets food from your yard. We have not seen this issue with other brands.

Only this one. I don’t feel like it is safe for pets to go in the yard even after this is dry. Seriously dead birds everywhere and we still have weeds. Huge fail!.

This was recommended by neighbor friend with a “beware” attached. He said whatever it touches , it kills. He wasn’t kidding. I love using it on areas I don’t want any growth for about 6months. Great for Fl parts I don’t want to deal with a weed whacker.

For the price, I’ll use this over Roundup.

I spray weeds twice ! once per proper direction and next day didn’t see much result so I double on the amount required and spray it the next day and made sure that I soak it really good and check it out the next day and haven’t seen great result.

I was better off to use round up which work well it was a little pricey and I wanted to try something different. Would not recommend.

I mixed as recommended on the directions and used a tank sprayer to apply this product to a driveway full of weeds. It was a nice sunny day and in the mid 80’s. Sure enough! in about 4 days, all of the weeded area was laying over and turning yellow and then a tan looking color.

In about eight to ten days the weeds were so dried up that I could scrap them up, roots and all, Dried up and Dead! I am very satisfied with this product and highly recommend it to you.

Can’t beat the price. But using it without the understanding that it takes a long time to kill weeds may lead you to think it doesn’t work, or that you did something wrong and apply more than you need.

I’ve applied it to crab grass, Bermuda grass, plantain, lespedeza, clover and other weeds. The next few days, the weeds look as healthy as the day I sprayed them. It took a week or more for the weeds to look like they are starting to die, and a few days longer than that for them to die completely.

So this stuff does work, but if you’re expecting overnight results like some big brands do, you’ll be disappointed. Soak the weeds, and come back a week later to see the results.

Use this product for the insipid dollarweed that encroaches on my yard since the neighbors do nothing and it works great. Within a day the dollarweed starts turning yellow. However the new bottle design barely sprays product out.

When trying to use the “Mix” setting, you really need to jam it all the way out and very tightly hold it in place to get ANYTHING out of the bottle. My backyard is over 16000 sq ft, and I sprayed the entire back yard three times on a 5000 sq ft coverage bottle and still had not used all the product in the bottle.

And now I have a very sore thumb. I wished I had saved one of the older product bottles.

Very effective, easy to use, and safe for St. Augustine. I spent just as much time unrolling/rolling the hose than was needed for the application. This is not a fast acting product, but in a few days you will notice the limpness in the weeds, and shortly thereafter, they disappear.

Image works great. It really made a difference on my Bermuda that had some brown areas and didnt seem to be growing in other areas. After the application I could really see a huge difference in how well it worked.

Word of caution. Do not spray on plants (shrubs and flowers) as it kills them.

Used exactly as directions called for. Used an Ortho hose sprayer and thoroughly soaked the grass and weeds. Rained about 38 hours after applying.

IšverstiShow in original languageThis is our 2nd gallon purchased and we have not yet used it because we are saving it for September (late September is best time to re-spray post-emergent sprays for burweeds).

Our first gallon which we sprayed in early spring worked fantastic (we did NOT need to spray a second time two weeks after the first application – that saved us money and time and exposure to the poision)!.

Works at it’s own speed depending on which broadleaf you have. Some weeds start wilting in 48 hours, some in 5 days and others 7 to 10 days. I’m on day 11 and I have some weeds showing no signs of dying.

I’m thinking those wont be killed. I applied a little over the recommendation without hurting our Saint Augustine lawn. I waited until we had a day high of 70° and a night low of 50°. I might apply a little stronger next time I apply it.

I’ve used it for years and find that its potency diminished in storage. Needs to be used within 2 years once opened. Stored in Florida heat might be the reason.

My order arrived in a completely sealed plastic bag packed in the delivery box. The cap had been securely but awkwardly taped down and the underside of the cap had been siliconed. All this was done to prevent possible spillage since the seal of the bottle had been opened.

I was disappointed to see that I hadn’t received a completely sealed gallon. Aside from this, all is well. I hope that this was an isolated incident and that future purchases will be free from defective or altered products.

I mixed and applied as close to instructions as possible. It has been a week now since I applied to my entire lawn; I have noticed several weeds turning colors and looking weak, but nothing has died yet.

I also noticed that this did absolutely nothing for the clover and a few other odd weeds in the lawn. I will most likely have to reapply.

This product actually works and safe for St. Augustine grass as directed. I had outbreak of ground ivy and dollar weed and others. The concentrate is the best value; used in 2 gallon pump sprayer.

Purchased a gallon at Rural King, 52 bucks and some change in Indiana. The key to using this product is timing. I applied when temp was around 65 with 75 and sunny expected for the next several days.

If rain is expected that day or the next, WAIT or you will waist the product. Used a 30 gallon tow behind sprayer. Mixed 35 ounces in the tank with and pulled with brisk walking pace (1. 2 acres). 10 hours later, every dandelion is wilted.

Clover and some other weeds are as well. Caution, always mix this product to 80% potency if temps are expected in the mid to upper 80s unless you have money laying around for a lawn re-seed. It is easier to go back and hit it again with more potency then blow it on the 1st try.

Spot spray near delicate bushes-shrubs and flowers unless you wish to kill them as well. Wind speed should be no more than 10 mph and pay attention which way it is blowing so it won’t drift onto other plants.

Take your time and it will give you the results you wish for.

Our 2 acre yard was infested with every kind of weed imaginable especially dandelion and clover. Applied with a 25 gal pull behind sprayer 2 days after mowing and no rain and no rain forecasted for two days (Late April).

Within 24 hours noticeable effects were evident. It’s been 3-4 weeks but our lawn looks the best it has since moving here 6 years ago. Still some clover and chickweed. Going to apply again within the next week for extra measure.

Best product I have come across for general weed killer.

Works great on everything I don’t want in my yard. I mix at 1. 5oz/Gal and spot spray by hand or use my tow sprayer. It wilts dandelions within hours. for extra impact, particularly on clover, add some surfactant to the mix so the spray doesn’t just roll right off the waxy/hairy surfaces.

Well just going by my use of it I’ve used this several times and never had a bad experience with it and I would use it any time because it’s always killed whatever I’ve sprayed it on and it’s a great buy especially since Rndup is a total waste of time and money after I paid $50 for someone and used it and never seen a wilt or change of color whatsoever.

I waited a couple of weeks and took my sprayer with this in it and sprayed it for them and in a few days wilting and dying weeds was what I saw. Anyway I highly recommend it to anyone just make sure to use on a hot dry day and you’ll see results like I have.

I sprayed this along the edges of my driveway and shortly after i sprayed; it rained. I thought oh shoot it wont work but low and behold within a week the weeds were dying. The following week I sprayed again and now I have dirt! This is awesome! This stuff works very well!.

Says shows it’s working in 3 hrs. It doesn’t. This is a ready to use product at a concentrate price. Bad deal. Don’t buy it

Outrageous how great it is against dandelions! So-so on thistle. But it does not work on creeping butter cup which is why I bought the product. The spray seems to just wash off. Should I try adding deterrent? I’ve used half my gallon of concentrate on about 200 sq feet and have another 600 sq ft to go.

Do I need to mix stronger than the instructions say? Your label says a gallon covers 10,000 sq ft. With luck I’ll only cover 400sq ft. What gives?.

This was the best price I could find and it arrived much quicker than I thought. Have not used the fiesta yet but my buddy starting using it last year and his lawn is looking much better. I’m blasting my dandelions patches this weekend.

I had looked for awhile to find a more natual alternative to regular broadleaf herbicides on the market. I found this product and figured I would give it a shot, and I am glad I did! Within hours, dandelions were dying and in a few days the clover in my yard is black and dead.

This stuff is the real deal and I will use it from now on. No harsh chemical smell either like other broadleaf herbicides I have used. Great product!.

I purchased it about a month ago. I sprayed the crabgrass and other broad-leaf weeds twice. I killed nothing. l sprayed the same weeds with Trimec Crabgrass Friday, July 29,2022. The crabgrass and broad-leaf weeds are wilting and showing that the Trimec Crabgrass is killing the crabgrass and other weeds.

Trimec contains 2. 13% Quinclorac ( active ingredient to kill crabgrass). Roundup Crabgrass contains only 0. 118% of Quinclorac. Trimec Crabgrass contains 0. 60% of Dicamba dimethylamine salt while Roundup Crabgrass contains only 0.

029%. It appears that Monsanto was more interested in making a cheaper more profitable product rather than a quality product that actually performs as stated on the label. I will take it back to Lowes and try to get my money back.

I had nurtured my lawn all spring with feeding and over-seeding which produced a beautiful thick green lawn in June -July 2021. Small sprouts of clover started to pop up here and there so I purchased the Roundup for lawns ready to use.

Read the application directions carefully and applied as directed to the clover locations. Within one week my lawn was ruined. The clover remained green and healthy while the grass was completely killed.

The bottle label says kills weeds not the grass. In lite of the extreme negative effect on the lawn I felt that affected soils required removal and replacement prior to restoring the vegetation. I contacted SMG Roundup and was repeatedly switched from one representative to another and each time asking the same questions and seeking the same information.

My request of SMG Roundup was for nothing more than to have the impacted soil removed and replaced with virgin topsoil and my lawn restored. Ultimately after a significant amount of time had passed I was handed of to a claims adjuster from a third party contractor whom did not present himself in a very professional manor if you know what I mean.

The adjuster advised I would be contacted with a resolution in short order. That was two weeks ago and no word and no returned phone calls from either SMG -Roundup or the contractor. I caution other consumers with regards to the use of Roundup for lawns ready to use.

This is my second attempt to review this product. My first review was moderated as they put it in their response.

2, 4-d Amine is a proven weed killer. This brand of the chemical from Southern Ag works quickly and effectively. It killed some Nutgrass (nutsedge) I had and a whole lot of crabgrass – all browned out within about a week of application.

I followed instructions for time of application, temperature (about 85 degrees), etc. , but I did not use a hose-end sprayer or sprayer can. I found instructions for amount to mix in a water can — about 2.

5 oz per gallon of water. Water can is the method I used to apply the product. I would definitely recommend this product although it is pricier than some of the weed killers from “big name” brands. It appears to have a larger amount of the 2, 4-d amine chemical and I think this makes it more effective.

*Note: I have a mix of Bermudagrass and some fescue – the product did not harm my lawn.

my yard was out of control with seedlings, dandelions, clover, and all sorts of weeds. I live in idaho where we have hot summers and droughts. used 2 applications a week apart from eachother. the mix should be about 3 oz to every gallon of water.

wait 24 hours to water. killed everything but CRABGRASS. My lawn is coming back real nice. would highly recommend unless your just dealing with crabgrass go with something else.

I gave one of these to my Father-In-Law last year for Father’s Day and he has loved it! Having the ability to eliminate weeds without chemicals is such a big deal. Our family property is next to a highway, and having the ability to get rid of the weeds without dumping more is so big to our family!.

I really like this product. It works very well. I had weed problems in our paver driveway. This stopped them. Killed them fast.

Unfortunately it failed after two usages. it would heat up but the blue light “laser?” stopped coming on. I probably applied it to no more than 20 individual weeds. Also, it had no effect on the weeds even when it was working.

I really liked the side holster comfort wand. There was no pumping to mix the ingredients and it is so easy to apply. You can control the spray to desired amount and just squeeze the trigger to coat the leaves of the weeds.

As advertised, there was no damage to my Bermuda lawn. But it only wounded the weeds and did not kill them. I applied it more than once at the recommended times. After reading all the literature, could only fulfill part of the conditions.

It is very humid here and the yards are mostly damp. Our temperatures are well above 100 degrees for much of the day and it is the dead of summer instead of fall or spring. So my weak results could be caused by the wrong conditions.

I do use other Ortho product that have worked quite well. We just moved from a Kentucky bluegrass lawn to a Bermuda lawn and we are just learning.

I do not know where all the favorable reviews come from. I read the label completely, applied exactly as directed on partly cloudy day with a temperature of 68-70 degrees. No rain, no watering for 6 days.

Product did nothing. Not a single weed even turned yellow. It was as if I sprayed water on them. I measured each area of my yard with my measuring wheel prior to purchasing so I knew I needed 3 bottles to cover my yard.

After completion I had about 2 oz. of product left so application amount was spot on. And the “Money Back Guarantee” listed on the front of the bottle. Good luck with that! I found nothing about it on Spectracide’s website.

Even using their search returned their Privacy Policy. I’ve had good results with other Spectracide products but this one literally did nothing for me.

It works well on clover and dollar weed. So far, I can’t tell if it works on anything else. Note that this weed killer takes time. Not like northern grass weed killer that shows it working sometimes overnight.

In maybe 4 days you start to see clover turning a lighter shade of green then eventually yellow until gone so give it 2 weeks. You can also re-apply after a couple weeks if necessary.

After almost 30 days, dandelion occurrence has diminished. Appears to work as pre-emergent against dandelion. Works as post emergent against stinging nettle if you have a week of dry weather to follow.

Stinging nettle results will be seen after a week. Hawksbeard is another issue. Has not prevented hawksbeard. Another product I used seemed to be only effective on hawksbeard. Evidently, no product perfect unless you go to cancer causing commercial nuking.

Buyer beware. I wasn’t thinking when I ordered this product. I didn’t pay attention to “RTU” and I didn’t realize it means Ready to Use. The picture on the container is very similar to the picture of the KleenUp concentrate which is also 128 oz.

I thought I was ordering the concentrate and was getting a good deal even after paying $12 for shipping. A total of about $30 for what Amazon was charging $40 with free shipping. It ended up that I paid a little over $30 per gall for vegetation killer whereas if I had paid $40 plus $2.

40 tax for Amazon’s concentrate I could have mixed 62 gallons for an average cost of less than 70 cents per gallon. Bottom line, if you have a tank sprayer, don’t buy the Ready to Use, buy the concentrate.

The RTU is about 48 times more expensive after factoring in shipping costs. As for the product, it does a good job of killing whatever is sprayed.

Purchased the Bondie 7497 Weed and Grass Killer to clear Grass and Weeds that were growing through the cracks of my walkway. Also, sprayed around the perimeter of my residence. anywhere I saw Grass or Weeds I didn’t want.

Been pulling up the dead Grass and Weeds without any signs of them returning.

I thought it wasn’t working at first because the bottle says see results as soon as 24 hours, and I saw nothing. It does take some time to work, but boy does it work! All my weeds shriveled up and died completely! I think next time though, I’ll get the larger container with the wand.

My northern lawn was being overtaken with zoysia. A quick google search told me this was very difficult grass to get rid of, and included as many as 3 step processes with multiple types of chemicals (two applications of “the name brand” 50% glyphosate at 6 oz per gallon, and another application of a “the name brand’s” glyphosate diodome mix).

I used Remuda full strength at 1 cup per gallon (not recommended for broad application, but ok for spot treatment), added a dash of liquid miracle grow, and applied with a 1 gallon hand sprayer. Two weeks later, after a single application, the zoysia was completely dead, and the bare patches in my yard are ready for re-seed.

Remuda is the most effective weed killer I know. Better than Roundup!!

It appears to be as effective as the slightly stronger(50%) Roundup I had been using for the same purposes.

I applied as directed on newly seeded area and watered it deeply. This large area in the back had been cleared in February after all grass and weeds were deeply dug out, I even sprayed the area prior to planting, wanting no weeds.

Seed sprouted, grew slowly because it got hot earlier than normal, but it is still green and growing. There was only one short strip where any weeds showed, and I used a safe weed killer on them. It’s been several weeks and there are weeds in every spot, even a small area that was seeded in October and was already thick with grass.

We dug the area WITH A SHOVEL and are both over 75 years old. So very disappointed. I will have to dig out the weeds by hand as much as I can, and then spray lawn weed killer where necessary.

Been using WOW! Supreme for as long as it has been offered (used original WOW! since 1984) The corn gluten based product controls dandelions, crabgrass, and broadleaf weeds with just spring and fall application.

Birds nest and fledge in my yard the entire breeding season. Robins find so many worms they tell their friends, we can see 8-10 at a time. We never water the lawn as the roots go way down and the lawn is not thirsty.

Easy granular format with broadcast spreader. My organic vegetable garden is in the middle of my yard so why would I put any chemicals on the grass next to it? A great slow release fertilizer so lawn has a steady diet without burning.

Adjust PH with lime as needed in the fall. Safe for visiting children and pets. Thank you Gardens Alive! for making environmentally friendly products that work.

seems to do the job it says,definitely wear gloves though as found it leaks when using it,not ideal and haven’t come across this problem before with any other brand. I would have given 5*if it had not been for this.

VERY EFFECTIVE, WEEDS ON LAWN STOOD UP AT FIRST THEN SHRIVELED UP AND SLOWLY DIED OFF. JUST TAKE ALL THE USUAL SAFETY CARE AND APPLY COMMON SENSE AND ALL WILL BE WELL.

Good product, good price. Only minor comment is the trigger is quite hard to press.
