20 Best Weight Lifting Hooks (2022 Updated)

So, the first time I used these things, I almost gave up and returned them after one attempt at a 350-pound deadlift. I had removed my wrist wraps to make sure I could wrap the hook strap around my wrists as tightly as possible, but the weight was so much that the hook straps simply slid right down my wrists, causing the hooks to get pulled so far down that they were beyond the ends of my fingers.

I couldn’t have lifted 20 pounds with the hooks in this position. So, then I remembered reading in the reviews before purchasing that others had a similar problem and had solved it by starting with the hook wraps tightly secured higher up on the forearm, so that when they get pulled down by the weight they are simply pulled into the correct position.

This worked better, but still wasn’t ideal — sometimes they were still pulled too far, esp. if you sweat a lot. THEN, I developed the perfect solution: keep the wrist wraps (and gloves if you choose to wear them) in place, and wrap the hook wraps on the forearm *above* the wrist wraps.

This way, the hook wraps still get pulled down, but the wrist wraps keep them in the perfect position. NOW, PERFECTION. I can now deadlift more weight than I ever thought I was capable of. I also now can’t speak highly enough about this product! I know all of this might be hard to comprehend in writing, so I’ve included a video.

Young or old, sooner or later. many of us have or will get tendonitis from gripping heavy weights, years of reps. , or poor form. These helped greatly with the elbow pain I experienced during and after doing my dead lifts, trap bar, even dumbell squats.

I could see where these might even work for pullups too (I have not tried that. ) These are heavy duty construction and materials; the velcro is industrial grade. I have no issues with the bar feeling like it will slip out?.

as others have stated. You do have to wear them correctly, but maybe they are power lifters? I cannot speak to that. I have washed these 4 times and they still retain their form. Prior to these I did try a pair of the old fashioned bar/wrist staps that you wrap around the bar & wrist that serve the same purpose.

but what a pain in the butt to get just right by yourself in between sets and weight changes. These hooks are much, much easier, and do not interrupt my workout flow. These hooks also have more applications than the old style straps.

for me anyway. I also have the DMoose wrist brace wraps which are great too. I have been lifting since 1972 and always learning and looking for products to keep me safe and keep lifting.

I’m a fairly strong woman and bought these strictly for conventional deadlifting. I don’t have very good grip strength (and I don’t care about grip strength) and my grip would fail before my legs and back would.

It was getting frustrating. (I’ve never used any kinds of straps before and my gym doesn’t allow chalk) So I figured for the price I would give these a go. I do my first few sets without these and I don’t put them on until I feel my grip starting to slip.

I immediately feel an improvement on the muscles I’m trying to work on. I said “where have these been all my life?!?” It took pressure off my lower back and I’ve been able to increase my deadlift strength and improve my form.

I can do more sets at a heavier weight. I hold the bar lower in my hands anyway and I’m able to wrap my outside fingers around the bar even with these on. They do put some pressure on your hands so you need to loosen them after every set or else the blood will rush to your hands once you get to a heavier weight.

I feel like these would be awesome for body builders doing any kind of rows/pull downs where you’re really wanting to take your biceps out of the lift and focus on your back. I would definitely recommend giving these a try.

Very high quality and comfortable to wear.

I bought this to help me work with my trainer on exercises that require grip. I do not have a right hand, my arm stops just below the elbow and this hook allows me to have a grip on some of her gym equipment.

The strap is very easily adjusted to fit as snug as I wants around my right arm and my left wrist. The velcro is very powerful so there is no risk of the strap “opening up”. It was quite easy to figure out the best way to set up the strap so that the hooks are positioned for best grip! Now the hook feels like an extension of my arm when I lift.

The Harbinger Lifting Hooks have bridged the gap between my grip weakness and larger muscle strength. No longer held back I can move along in my fitness goals and keep in mind that the grip needs some extra work in isolation too.

The design allows hands to make contact with the working surface while adding the extra help along the sides. With this product there is nothing not to love.

These are the best hooks i’ve every used. I was a bit tentative about the split hooks on each grip. I was worried they may bend. However, I have foudn the split hook system to not only be strong enough to hold my 250lb frame, but also more effective.

The split hook on each grip allows you to rest your fingers aroudn the bar in a more natural way, which just feels more secure and comfortable while creating an unstoppable grip. Another bonus is that when the rubber on the hooks wear out, it can be easily replaced with some fresh covering.

I love these and will use them from here on.

I work on my grip regularly. Minute-long dead hangs, scap pull-ups, hanging leg raises are all a part of my routine. I use an overhand grip for all my deadlifts except for the very heavy sets during which I use a mixed grip, and this has worked well for me.

I watched a YouTube video that discussed the benefits of an overhand grip for all deadlifts, including the heaviest sets, and I noticed that this is the usual grip at Rogue Strongman competitions, so I decided to order Versa Gripps to help me with that.

I found that I could pull more weight with the Gripps! They fit well and are very secure. I am a woman with a small wrist, and the Pro Gripps work better and are more comfortable for me than the Classic or Fit models.

I used to use straps but found them uncomfortable and time-consuming to wrap (I probably didn’t use them long enough to get good at it). I MUCH prefer these Versa Gripps for their fit, comfort, stability, and ease of use (no learning curve necessary; super easy to get on and get used to).

I put off using anything to help me lift for years. I hit a point, recently, where my grip couldn’t hold up to what the rest of my muscles could handle. Lack of grip was like a distraction from the mind/muscle connection for my heavy lifts.

I looked at options, found these awhile back, and finally bought in. I’m loving the difference. My mind is on the muscles I’m using for the lift and no longer on holding onto the dumbbells or bar. I didn’t realize how much that affected my work and that I’m even stronger than I knew! I no longer have bruises on my wrists from heavy dumbbell rows and deadlifts.

I forsee going well over my 70lb db rows soon thanks to these grips. I love how they aren’t bulky and cumbersome like straps. One go with straps. hated the bulk and the work to get them just right, and that I didn’t have the quick release capability in a fail.

I was looking for a new grip and wanted to get in on the hype, so ordered these on a whim. Don’t regret it. THESE ARE GREAT. Really like using the Gripps for pulling exercises like rows/pulldowns/pullups, and also heavy RDLs.

I didn’t expect much from the appearance of it at first, but looks can be deceiving. Really solid grip. Also works for pushing movements like chest presses and the wrist wrap provides pretty good wrist support.

The leather material strengthens your hold on most gym handles, and so far it’s pretty easy to keep stink-free as long as you air it out after each workout. All round a great gym gear.

I have tried pretty much all the wrist straps over the years and the VersaGripps are the best ones out there for comfort, ease of use, and grip strength. I was browsing eBay looking for a new set of VersaGripps and took a chance on the Cobra grips due to the cheaper pricing.

I am now a big fan of the Cobra grips. Seems heavy duty and similar quality to the VersaGripps. I was performing barbell shrugs with 495lbs and the grip held up great! I bought 2 more pairs. These are high quality, easy and comfortable to use.

Originally ordered the rubber pro grips but unfortunately the smaller fit version arrived so I had to return them. I re-ordered the Limited Edition brown leather grips and Im so glad I did. The wrist support both types provided from just trying them on felt the same but the feel of the limited edition is simply much better.

A very high quality product, cant wait to get them worn in.

Ive been lifting for 25 years. I wish cobra grips were around when I started. I bought a pair 2 years ago and they are still working flawless but I decided to buy another pair for a spare. Ive tried all the others and I like cobras the best.

Lock you hand to the bar and protects my calluss when pressing.

Did a lot of research on all the different types of wraps and decided to give these a try. I sprained my wrist three days ago and got these in just 1. 5 days. Just got back from the gym today and I will testify that these work great.

My wrist didn’t event wink after doing lat pull downs, rows, curls and shrugs. Much better than wearing an elastic “ACE” band to support my wrists. Saving me from having to sit out for several days if not weeks.

I have had time to use the gloves. They offer several features of importance. For starters, they ensure you’re not directly handling equipment others without gloves use and don’t wipe down. More importantly, they protect my hands from calluses, and offer a firm grip on the equipment.

I recommend this product because I have been using these gloves for years. Only, when they’re store bought, they cost twice as much.

Pull-ups were the first exercise I ever trained on, to have these to provide a way for a fresh approach quickly became indispensable. Another area of huge improvement is using these on deadlifts. I also use them to assist on jerks.

I bought two pairs. One for the gym bag when I travel for exercise and the other to stay home, for my home-rec routines.

Alrighty so I’ve never used lifting straps before and these are my first ever lifting straps. I gotta say I was really excited when I got these today I just use them for back and I was a little disappointed.

By all means they were great ishhh but I usually get sweaty during my workouts. So the lifting straps Started to become harder to use because it kept slipping off the bar. Also I think they need to be a bit longer, I found myself not being able to wrap around some bars at the gym which was disappointing and frustrating.

But I still think these are a good product then again I’ve don’t got any other lifting straps to compare it too.

They work great just get slippery when your sweat gets on them. I don’t use chalk, so maybe you could make some with some dry cloth or nonslip material on the palm side of them. Might be worth trying.

Other than that, they work great.

I used the death grips for the first time last weak and they wear great. Comfortable and made lifting DLs more focused. Didn’t have to worry about grip at all. Also had an opportunity to demo them for the gym owner who really liked them because of their construction and price as am I.

Economical accessory for gym work outs with dumbbells, trap bar, short or full length barbell, and pull up bar. Used for shoulder shrugs, trap bar and barbell deadlifts, dead/sumo squats, chin-ups or pull-ups.

Purchased due to arthritis in hands that limited the weight they could hold on to. A minor shortcoming is placement with wrist worn fitness device may require adjusting position of the device. Did not use them with lifting gloves so uncertain how that would work.

They remain stable no matter the weight or load bearing implement so I’m very pleased.

I was replacing lifting straps bought more than thirty years ago. The length is good and the straps look to be of high quality. These are the first straps that I’ve had with padding for the wrists and this makes them very comfortable.

The padding keeps the straps from cutting off the blood to the hands during lifting so they are tight enough without locking in too tightly.

The hooks arrived quicker than I expected. They were a bit rigid at first but after using them a few times they became much more pliable. Had to adjust them to find my right comfort level and support (which I did) but after I did I was amazed with how many more reps I could get using these hooks.

My hands would fatigue after 2 sets of 300 lbs on shoulder shrugs but using these hooks allowed me to much easier complete 3 full set. These hooks will a part of my workout from now on.

I don’t know if my hand is too small for these but the don’t satay in paly or hook on to different kinds of bars correctly. My son has them and loves them so it might be they are just too big. I wanted them for different kinds of machines I use at the gym.

they do not grip correctly. I was really helping they would keep the pressure off my hands so I could lift more but that didi not happen.

The lifting straps are padded so they do provide extra comfort for your wrists, without cutting into them like some wrist straps can do. You can use the lifting straps for a variety of movements or exercises.

What I like to use them for most are dead-lifts. I do also use them for lat pull downs as well, if on that particular day my grip is feeling a little bit weak. I’ve been using these for a little over a month now and they have not began to fray out and they still look like I just took them out of the packaging.

Overall, these work really well, they strap on your wrist like a wrist wrap, while still having the easy of use like a lifting strap. However, since it does strap down like a wrist wrap-it just gives you that extra durability and insurance that your not going to drop what heavy weight your lifting whether it be from a dead-lift or a lat pulldown.

as I mentioned earlier, it’s kind of like a wrist support/strap, combined with a lifting strap as well. One size fit all, so you get two for the price of one really. This product is definitely a 9/10.

The Schiek Basic Lifting Strap is a well-made and durable lifting strap that can be worn by anyone with any fitness level. My rating of this product is based off of length, quality, durability and appearance.

The length of the strap seems to be just right. I have moderate sized wrists at 18. 5 cm; and after enclosing the strap around my wrist, there is still enough length to wrap around a bar twice. The quality of the straps is one of the best aspects of these straps.

They are thick and well-made which is nice considering what they are used for. For the price, the quality of the straps are high. Durability is also a big component of my rating. I have had these straps for close to 8 months and have yet to see any fraying or severe wear and tear.

One would expect some wear and tear since these are wrapped around the bars with weight. I believe I can get an additional year or so out of them before I am forced to get a new pair. There is no padding on the inside of this particular strap but once it has been broken in there is no discomfort of the wrist and you forget it lacks any.

Appearance wise these straps are plain black with the Schiek logo squarely in the center. There is nothing eye popping about the look of the straps but the black hides obvious wear and tear as well as dirt and sweat marks from exercise.

Overall I was highly impressed with the Schiek Basic Lifting Straps and for my criteria I gave this product an 4/5.

Best straps you can use with the comfort of the pads against your wrists. Nothing worse than lifting straps that don’t have the pads against your wrists. Might not be an issue if you don’t use any weight lol These lifting straps are a must have for any serious lifter.

Feels wonderful on the wrists when lifting very heavy weights for deadlifts, bent over barbell rows, and especially for heavy barbell shrugs and dumbbell shrugs! Once I tried them I was hooked! I have no regrets getting these at all! I feel naked without them lol God bless.

I am in my seventies, and I have arthritis in my hands. So finding these hooks works out well for me, as I like to do a few pull-ups each day, and my grip became too painful and weak to support me. My only criticism is that the material of each hook is not the same thickness, and it just looks weird.

I know that the steel is absolutely strong enough to deal with my bodyweight, but it does seem peculiar. Apart from that, I am delighted with my purchase, and would recommend them to anyone.

I bought these to enable me to lift heavier weights safely, as I have difficulty maintaining a good grip, due to arthritis, carpal tunnel and trigger finger. These hook straps have made an enormous difference and improved my weight training immensley.

The only slight issue is my wrists are slim, and it takes me a while to ensure the straps are on tightly and securely. I can highly recommend these.

Let me put it straight, it’s my fault for not checking the suitability of the gloves. So the opinions below are just my feedback through limited usage. These gloves are good if it fits your equipment.

I forgot to check that they will fit into my powerblock dumbbells hence I was disappointed to find it out when I finally got my hands onto them. As for the usage, it does work as intended however when performing pullups (which is what I’m using it predominantly now), there is still forming of calluses on my palms which I was hoping these gloves will be able to help avoid it.

It does help with gaining extra reps or so because you are working on the intended muscle groups.

Got these hooks to try, but would never purchase them again. Well made as far as materials go, but because the hook is not wide enough for all four fingers to grip, it feels awkward. Have a pair of Cobra Grips and like these hooks, they fasten around your wrist to allow you to pull more weight (and they do), without feeling awkward, and they help you to grip the bar without any slippage.

Would highly recommend the Cobra Grips or using straps over these hooks any day of the week. Save your money and buy a pair of Cobra Grips instead!.

The padding is very thin & weak you don’t get a lot of support around your wrist if you do heavy loads! This is good for amateur! If your an advance on weight lifting! Buy something more sturdy on the wrist with more cushion! The kooks are good that’s all! Lol look @ the difference of thickness on my harbingers wrist support vrs RDX! Big difference.

Ive seen a few people with similar products at the gym and i figures Id order a pair and used them this morning and they were great. Made of great quality and raised my PR by 20lbs across the board. thanks guys.

I just recently started weight training. These grips are very strong and assists greatly with weight lifting

I like them but would have them with a little more bend or lenght so bar does not feel like it can slip out which It wont but does feel like it and would rather focus on my lift than my bar when using lite weight like bar and 2 45 it feels great for back row but one you have on let say 4 45 it makes me think about bar rather than weight which is not good since it keeps me from doing my heavy weight other than that construction feels and looks good but maybe I need to use it more and see if I can get past my concern.

Profile Athlete: 185cm weight 86kg ; lifting range (on deadlift) 80/130kg 2x back/week (1 month of use) I am only using them on Back exercises (all types dumbell/bar/machines) Amazed by the quality of the “Steel grip” It doesn’t move/bend at all.

Velcro easy to adjust even on a tiny wrist. The shape of the hook is also really shaping my hand perfectly. Webbing hasn’t stretched yet. Cant see a mark. I do like that the hook remain free so you can change plates on bars without taking them off.

HOWEVER the “downside” is to make sure you have fairly big hands (mine is 21. 5cm top middle finger to wrist x 10. 5cm palm) or it will result on simply using your forearm and loose the benefit of having this kind of equipment.

The next version could implement more foam on the velcro/tighting ring wrist to make it really comfortable.

Usually the grip on my hands would give out before the muscles I was working. These grips are great! I concentrate on feeling the weight vs worrying about my grip. And the wrist bands are comfortable, truly great quality! I recommend them to anyone for better weight training!.

I really like these hooks, the wrist wrap is incredibly comfortable and I can’t wait to test them out at the gym. I personally have a problem over-squeezing the bar as well as losing grip at higher weight.

Straps can only really help with one of those things, but with these I can take the strain off my fingers and can’t squeeze. Definatly something you want if you feel your grip is holding you back on shrugs or deadlifts.

This is my second pair of Ironmind straps but only because I wanted to have a spare pair at my holiday place. I have been using these Ironmind straps for about 2 years and they are still going. I used to use the usual cheap 3-5 straps before but was going through them very quickly as they always tore.

Ironmind straps are totally different, they are strong, quality is very high and colour never shades. The best product so far, wouldn’t do without them now. One thing I better mention, these straps should be imho used together with chalk because due to the used material they are a bit slippery.

This takes a lot of effort and additional parts to make it work! Good materials, and maybe a fair value, but flawed by some cheap design short cuts. The six clips are useless – they work loose continually.

Use a good number of zip ties instead – much better. Be prepared to cut away a section of the angled bottom edge of one of the halves – it wont be able to match up and fasten together otherwise. A small 12 bolt cutter does the trick.

Buy a rubber bed liner and a ballistic nylon cloth pet area liner and your all set,. Wheeew!.

My initial concerns of this synthetic material strap being nylon, having an abrasive affect on my wrist and has was completely superficial, they’re high quality, comfortable and provide excellent levels of grip! Used them for the first time on 1 arm rows and rack pulls and found them extremely quick and easy to use, comfortable with no slipping and confidence inspiring also! It was a choice between conventional cotton straps, which I find a little to thick and padded, and these, and I’m sure I made the right decision by choosing the ironmind straps!.

I’ve tried numerous lifting straps/grips over the years, but none that have surpassed these excellent grips. Their design is great; very quick to apply and release from the bar. Most importantly, though, these things are DURABLE! I’ve had them for 5 years, and there are no areas of notable breakdown anywhere on them.

Highly recommend.

These grips have been a game changer for both me and my wife in our deadlifts and any other lifts that require a good grip. Both me and my wife have small hands but we have had no problem using these so I would definitely recommend them to anyone with smaller hands.

I have tried traditional lifting straps and could never get the hang of using them correctly (probably because of my small hands) and I have also used lifting hooks. These Harbinger Lifting Grips worked far better for me than either the straps or hooks.

I would definitely recommend these to anyone whose grip strength is holding them back on comfortably lifting more weight.

I am doing weightlifting since more than 30 years, almost in daily basis. In all these years I have use all kind of gloves, grips, brands and training materials. These grips not only are durable and confirtable, they achieve three goals in one, to be a glove, a grip and an strap.

And it does it all great. High quality, high versatility and what any serious trainner or anyone who wants to train better and take care about theirs hands should use it.

These straps are exactly what is described in the title super heavy duty. Now since the material is meant to withstand heavy weight the straps are pretty thick and stiff so they’ll take use and some effort to break it in.

Also the material is comfortable around the wrist it’s not abrasive or cut into you wrist while lifting. I’m really happy with the purchase I received exactly what was described and what I was looking for.

I would say I would buy these again but I’m pretty these things are going to out live me lol.

The heavy duty straps are exactly that. These straps are very solid and feel great. They need to be broken in but that’s to be expected. Just like every other product this one is top notch. After having multiple back surgeries and nerve damage my grip has held me back.

These straps are far more secure than any strap used before these. I would recommend this product to anyone in need of serious straps.

Easily my favorite lifting straps I’ve bought. The feel of the material is perfect. Despite being more pliable and comfortable these straps are still extremely durable. Where I think the super heavy duty straps are purpose built for deadlifting, these are a solid everyday strap.

My hands are a size “Large” and I can NOT recommend this product. Maybe someone with bigger hands might be able to get a grip while using this lifting hooks, but I wasn’t able to. Someone at the gym uses some other brand that has a smaller hook, so the lifter is able to get a grip on the bar to neutralize the wrist and the hook aids in the puling exercise.

But for me not this product. It put too much stress on my wrists because I couldn’t get a grip around the hook thus shooting pain all the way down my elbow. I don’t have this problem with Schiek Lifting Straps, which I believe would be a better alternative for those looking for extra support.

I would recommend trying a pair before committing to buying a pair. Sorry, but hope this helps.

Use it for pull-ups in the park & in the weight room. Hooks are rubberized so as not to scratch the bars but obviously easily scraped by the rough diamond grips of barbell bars. Although nicely padded wish it was as wide as the Schiek Wrist Support.

Also would be nice if the hooks is on an slight angle or can slightly swivel left or right for wide-grip pull-ups. At times I also feel I wish the hook has a slightly smaller radius & slightly longer to hook on to the bar.

Even with all of these critiques in mind, it’s still the best one I’ve used to date. Still recommend it!.
