20 Best Weight Lifting Sets (2022 Updated)

The convenience this product provides is unmatched. The ability to have a wide range of weights with such a low profile is perfect for anyone who is concerned about space issues. Additionally the balance on these was my main concern and I’m happy to say that I’ve found absolutely no issues with the balance.

At its current price point, I don’t have many complaints but I will note some places I think the product could improve. The weight themselves are comprised of what seems to be a lower quality plastic that feels like it can’t be tossed around too much.

These weights are fairly light so I don’t think it will be a huge issue but I wouldn’t want to drop them from more than 3-4 inches from the ground. Another thing I’d note is that it’s not super easy to lay these guys perpendicular to your knee cap when prepping for an exercise like dumbbell bench press.

If they could somehow make the the ends of these more conducive to being rested on your legs without it being uncomfortable, that would be preferable. Overall I’m willing to take the bad with the good considering the price and convenience.

For casual lifters, this product should satisfy and be a great starting point for anyone considering strength training.

Product is ideal for isolation and body building movements that a barbell simply won’t afford you the opportunity of doing. Plates are very durable. Handles are evenly balanced and knurling permits for a strong grip, but not overly abrasive.

Star nut marries to the threading on the dumbbell handle well (I’ve preferred pullovers with no perceivable instability of the weight overhead). Comes with extra gaskets for the star nut and the handle ends.

Full disclosure: It will take a few minutes to adjust each dumbbell to the desired weight, which for me isn’t a problem as I use that time to rest in between sets. Price was reasonable. I prefer the simple design to the adjustable bow flex dumbbells, as I had many problems with the locking mechanisms when adjusting weight on that product.

If you are looking for a great set of home weights, look no further! Since I received these in the mail I have use them daily. The machining on all of the components are of great Quality. The spin down not watch the weights down super tight.

The weights are just wide enough to be able to fit the sides of them on your knees before you raise them to do your pressing exercises. This allows you to avoid putting the skinny handlers on your legs with heavy weight.

Overall I am totally blown away by the quality of this product for the price paid! Thank you so much for providing such a great quality product at such an affordable price.

Looked for some time and researched different options. Already have a fairly established home gym and was looking to add dumbbells. Looked at Powerblocks, individual dumbbells, and adjustable ones. Couldn’t stomach paying > $500 for the first two options when these (and others) are < 40% price.

I liked these due to there coating versus black cast iron or chrome. These have a nice coating that should last for some time. Been using for about a month now and no chips. The dumbbells were nicely packed and shipped quickly.

Felt kinda bad for the mail lady though.

I liked that the design was compact. The price convinced me to try them, after passing on more expensive models. They work well so far and they seem decently built. As the weights themselves are bigger than standard dumbbell ends, you need to get used to their geometry.

I wish it could be 5 lb. increments, but that would require more pieces and perhaps more complexity in the mechanism. CR recommends these, though they rated some other brands higher. Still these are good and worth the price.

Very good pair of adjustable dumbbells at a reasonable price considering inflation due to Covid. Not easy finding 50lbs dumbbells these days and not get screwed up. Only had them for a week or so but already did quite a few workouts with them.

Very easy and fast to adjust the weights. And the lowest weights aren’t wide like the bowflexes. Weider is an established company so the build is solid, though I wouldn’t drop these on cement. I was a bit worried about the sturdiness of the pins that you pull to make the adjustments but the seem solid enough.

These dumbbells are solidly made however they have plastic guide pieces in between the plates. Mine broke in less than a month. Company states to have a 90 day warranty however they won’t stand behind it at all.

I don’t like to deal with companies that don’t back up what they offer. Make your own decision.

I can’t believe i only now found this. I have the select tech dumbbells which i use almost every day for the past 5 years. The build quality on the dumbbells is top notch. I’ve been wanting to purchase a barbell/curl bar for years, but with limited space available in our apartment, I thought it would never be possible.

Until this, I can’t believe it took Bowflex this long to come up with the idea of using the same concept on barbells/Dumbbells. Anyway, the set is great, selecting the amount of weight you want is simple, just turn the dial.

Swapping out the different bars is easy enough. It will take some time to get use to placing the bar down on weight holder. You can’t just slam it down, you place it down. Once you hear a small click, you know it’s in correctly and you can turn the dial to select more or less weights.

You have to read the directions carefully, it took me about an hour or so to get everything screwed in correctly and the weights set properly on the weight holder. At first, the bar was not seating correctly so i couldn’t select the weights.

I realized i didn’t push the weight plates all the way back against the back part of the weight holder. It was a little confusing, but once i read the directions a few times, it clicked and made sense.

I purchased my set on the same day that my gym closed at the beginning of the pandemic. My timing could not have been better, as my set was the last one to go out before they shut down production in Minnesota.

I chose these over Bowflex because of it’s compact dimensions. Since it has a nested design, a 50 lb Powerblock is much shorter than a Bow flex which has a fixed length handle that is the same length regardless of the weight you have on it.

This comes into play with overhead shoulder presses and bench presses where you want to get your hands closer together. While the weight adjustment system is not as quick or easy as the Bowflex, it’s really a minor inconvenience and you get used to it very quickly.

While it is theoretically cool that you can find adjust in 2. 5 lbs increments, you will find yourself not doing it very much at all because pulling out the main handle assembly and removing and replacing the 2 silver cylinders and then putting them back in it’s just not worth the time and effort.

The way to themselves work really well. You will have to get used to 2 things: 1. There is a sound of metal on metal since they’re not one piece,solid dumbbells. Even though they are strong and durable, you still have to be more careful with them, and you certainly don’t want to drop them If at all possible.

2 The closed handle design is a bit restrictive. There are certain exercises that are more difficult to do, like overhead tricep extensions. Also, performing certain exercises with single dumbells are challenging.

Overall, it is a marvelous piece of equipment, and all I have in my home gym are the power blocks, an adjustable weight bench, and a pull up bar, and I can do 95% of what I can do in the gym. Highly recommended!.

Great for my home gym since I don’t have a lot of room. I think I like this setup better than 1″ weight set I was using for dumbbells because the width of the weights are no bigger than what it’s setup for.

With the plates slapped on a bar, working around the bar in some exercises was an annoyance. I’m still happy with graduating away from the 1″ set, because the plates slipped off once and I’ve never really trusted the collars since.

This setup is much more solid once weight is set. For 10lb increments, adjustments are a breeze, but for smaller increments. IMHO is a bit more tedious, but not difficult. It just requires an extra step of pulling the handle out and dropping the pin weights out.

Only downside, it’s on the fence of what I need in dumbbells, so it works for my routines for now. But. I’m looking for the stage2 upgrade and their hard to find and / or expensive due to lack of availability.

Love this set. I use it at home in between sessions at the gym. Nice looking with the chrome bars and the rubber belt around the plates, saves scratching floors too. Easy to change weight with the threaded bars.

Handles knurled for a sure grip. I have extra plates(left over from another set that I lost bars for during a move) so am not limited to 40lbs. If you need more than 40, worth a second set. Only complaint is collars tend to get a tiny bit loose during use but all it takes is a quarter turn to tighten once in a while.

These are great. Came nicely packaged in a hard plastic case. Plates were perfect and chrome handles look very well made. The collars fasten very tightly and hold plates securely. This is a very nice.

Set and i highly reccomend it.

I worked here at Big 5 for about a year and these things basically come already rusted. I complained to the district manager and nothing ever happened. They are great for what they are but expect some rust to deal with.

If you get them on a one day deal they could be worth the hassle just for the handles.

I bought this weight set with the intent of buying another, higher quality Olympic barbell with ball bearing sleeves and a higher weight capacity. But. It’s hard to beat the value for the weight plates.

If you bought each weight plate individually, the cost for the set based on the prices here would be just north of $435. Even if you toss out the bar, paying $300 for $435 worth of weight plates totaling about 255 lb.

(or about $1. 18 per lb. vs. $1. 80 per lb. ) is a pretty good deal. I used to lift heavy (I was close to a 600 lb. deadlift) before the pandemic. I’ve lost a lot of strength, but have also lost my overall fitness and put on weight.

So it’s like I’m starting over. My focus — for now — is to cut fat weight and improve overall fitness (without losing muscle) by using lighter weight at higher reps. I’ll probably ditch the barbell with this set and buy a better barbell as I approach 225 lb.

deadlifts (for 10 reps per set and a total of 6 work sets). That will be in about 6 weeks. After a few workout cycles for losing fat weight and building overall fitness, I’ll go back to doing 5 x 5’s for strength training.

But, I’ll still buy another one of these sets, just for the value of the weight plates. I can always use the “old” lower strength barbell for lighter exercises, such as barbell front raises, arm curls, and upright rows.

Even if I keep the limit to 225 lbs. , the barbell will last a little longer for bench press and bent-over rows, so I see nothing wrong with having a barbell on the bench rack, and another on the floor.

And, most people do not lift heavy. So the barbell may not be as big an issue for them.

Quite a versatile product, you can do workouts with the bar or separate workouts with just the plates. Im still under 300 pounds with all the compound lifts i can do so its ideal but i will need to buy extra 45lb bumper plates because the weights do feel delicate and would not be the best to be hitting the floor.

It may be me but it feels like any time the plates make contact with anything, an indentation is made. The weights like to slide when on the bar, mainly the 10lb, so occasionally, you do have to put the clamps on.

The bar barely has grip so keep that in mind when buying. Their seems to be some kind of oil on the bar and weights which im sure will wear off in time but it was annoying having the wipe off and be mindful of what you touch as to not get grease on things during your workout.

The bar also says “do not drop bar” in big letters on the inside collars of the bar, which i do not like and will not follow, i will most likely scratch it off or paint over it. All in all this bar is a good starter bar and weight set that can totally replace the gym, i can definately see myself upgrading bars and buying bumper plates though.

I have to do deadlifts carefully to not damage the plates because the 45’s are short and delicate, so bumper plates would help with that issue. If you get the chance to buy this, go for it.

I bought this weight set in the beginning of last year and I got to say, it has held up very nicely. The weights are spot on in weight and they have an amazing feel to them. However, the bolts that hold the sleeves to the barbell will usually come loose after a few training sessions so you will have to use a wrench to tighten it up every once and awhile.

My bar now has a little bit of a been to it due to the amount of way that I am pushing. This bar is meant only to go up to 300 pounds so I would recommend getting a different barbell if you’re lifting more than 300 pounds on your compound lifts.

Overall, these are amazing played said I think anyone should consider if they are looking at building a home gym, not only for their price, but also their availability. However, I would urge people to look at a different barbell rather than this one.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and I’d do it all over again if I could.

I’m actually really disappointed in these dumbbells (I bought two). 🙁 First of all, upon delivery the bases were both cracked beyond being able to actually cradle the dumbbells. Even if they hadn’t both shown up cracked, they are extremely flimsy and cheaply made, so it would have just been a matter of time before they cracked anyway.

**Ativafit has stated they are sending me new bases, but I have yet to receive them. Secondly, I was highly disappointed that the dumbbells show kg increments when they are advertised in lbs. This makes no sense to me at all.

At least include stickers in the packages for those of us in the US (everyone?) who would like to read the weight we are lifting in our country’s unit of measurement (instead of having to print off a conversion chart to put in our home gym/workout area).

Third, the weights themselves are very cheaply made. The endcaps of each dumbbell are made from some very thin sheet metal-like material, so anytime the two weights touch ends, this metal part is dented, which just looks terrible.

I would expect so much more from weights that I spent $300 on! Finally, the clanking around that the weight plates do as you are lifting is extremely distracting. Again, I believe that it’s because they are very cheaply made, as I have friends who have other adjustable dumbbells where the weight plates don’t shift around so freely.

The only time I’ve really been satisfied with this purchase is when I’m using one dumbbell with the full weight on it (so the plates don’t clank around). I’m really disappointed in this purchase. :(.

I bought this as a gift for my mom. Money is a bit tight to afford a gym membership and we don’t have enough space to store a rack of dumbbells. Instead of buying a gym membership ($50-$75/month), I got her these.

It will be nice for her to do her workouts again. Especially at home when it is easier to find the time (no driving, parking, and worrying about getting home to our family). I tried it and it is easy to adjust – move the dial to the setting you want.

It does not take up much room and can be hidden behind the chair so it doesn’t make the house too messy. I hope she will be happy with it.

After the 2020 dumbbell shortage I was so excited when I finally came across these dumbbells in stock. Even though the preference was standard dumbbells thought it would be convenient and less space to be able to get the adjustable dumbbells.

Order came on schedule- great! But things went south from there. 1. First set ordered was defective- one of the plates on a single DB would not shift out2. Checked online for troubleshooting info/videos- none- but did learn that these dumbbells were originally priced in $300 range; not the $599 I paid- thought price gouging was a thing 3rd party sellers did not the brand itself- very surprised and disappointed 3.

Reached out to customer service- first step the help site pushes you to is chat/email- took maybe a day to hear back- customer rep was nice and advised that he was not able to assist with the product flaw and gave me a help line to call; waited on hold for approximately 45 mins4.

Solution: at no charge they would ship another set, we could keep the first set. Thought that this was amazing. 5. Second set came as promised. Of the pair one dumbbell was nearly impossible to get aligned on the stand.

So now using one DB from first order and one from second. The other 2 are just taking up space collecting dust. Overall- these dumbbells suck. A LOT. I would like to be more mature about it but we got overcharged for faulty poorly designed equipment.

They’re a pain to get back on the stands unless all the plates are in them. This is fun after you’re done with your sets and tired- I’ve debated slamming them on ground multiple times. It’s just frustrating.

I know a few folks with Bowflex adjustable DBs and they don’t have the same problems. I do not recommend. GET BOWFLEX.

I was a little concerned buying these with the mixed reviews I saw online, but after trying them for 2 weeks I can tell you that they are working great so far. They appear to be one of the least expensive adjustable dumbbells, so I was worried they might be cheaply made, but they seem solid.

I’ve tried them at all different weight adjustments and a wide variety of exercises and they perform well. A couple pros are that they are smaller when they are set at a lighter weight (plates are left behind in the plastic holding trays), and increase in size as you increase weight, which is not like some of the other brands that are super long no matter how small of a weight you use.

This helps with range of motion on certain exercises. Also, they are adjustable in 2. 5 lb increments and go up to 55 lbs when some of the competitors only go to 50. I would love it if they went even higher, but for a home gym 55 lbs is great for so many things.

The way that they adjust is super smooth and easy, there are two different adjustable parts – the slider that adds or subtracts larger plates, and a twisty thing at the insides of the handle that fine tunes your weight to 2.

5 or 5 lbs higher than the larger plate quantity. I’ve only been using them for 2 weeks but so far the adjustments are really fast and easy. The only downside I can mention is that when you try to pick them up at full capacity, sometimes the plastic tray (which is very light) comes along for the ride, which can be frustrating when you’re lifting 55 lbs in each hand from floor level and you’re trying to shake off the trays.

They remind me of wet beer coasters stuck to the bottom of a glass! Any weight less than 55 is fine though, since plates are left behind that weigh down the trays. Overall I would highly recommend these dumbbells – for the price I think they are totally worth it.

I don’t know why these would get less than 5 stars. It’s hard to find an ergonomic weight set and these feel great in my hands and are compact for the weight. The tray is perfect and slides right under a bed/furniture and the black colour blends into any space and hides away.

I bought other ergonomic weights that were hard and very large and awkward and different colours.

Very stable to hold. Good Case. Love them! However, the company Icon Fitness Pro Form will not respond to calls or emails b/c you cannot register the dumbbells as they have a model # but of course no serial number.

The dumbbells come with a DVD but since I have an Apple with no DVD drive, I would like a link from their website to download, to ensure I have good form. But, the company will not reply until I register the serial number!.

Product base came in broken. But that’s ok since they will be used more than sitting. Shipping from Fingerhut Is usually questionable. Good product.

I’ve been using these for a month now and am glad I pulled the trigger and got these. For quite a while I had been using standard plates with screw-collar dumbbell bars. They were a pain to adjust, they constantly became loose, and you couldn’t rest them on your legs very easily.

Was a little concerned about the MX Selects since there weren’t many reviews but I did a little external research and decided that these were the best option for what I wanted. What I wanted are dumbbells that: 1) wouldn’t fall apart in the middle of an exercise.

2) weren’t longer/bigger than they needed to be for a given weight. 3) I could comfortably rest on my legs. 4) I could easily adjust the weight. The only other product that also (mostly) fit that criteria were the PowerBlocks.

In the end I decided I liked the retention mechanism of the MX Selects over the clips that the PowerBlocks used. Also, the MX Selects can be adjusted in 2. 5 lb increments by adjusting the weight of only one end of the dumbbell.

I don’t really notice the imbalance and it is easier than dealing with the 2. 5 lb inserts that the PowerBlocks use (and those do not provide all 2. 5 lb weight increments anyway). Less important, I liked that the MX Selects still had the same general look and feel of traditional dumbbells.

The areas where the PowerBlocks win over these are A) maximum weight, the MX Selects only go to 55 lbs per dumbbell, whereas the PowerBlocks (currently) go up to 125 lbs, and B) the cost, neither are cheap but the MX Selects were the most expensive option (in this weight range and even when considering the stand is purchased separately for the PowerBlocks).

I estimated that I at my current fitness level I could do the vast majority of my exercises between the 10-55 lb range that the MX Selects provide. Obviously, that is going to depend on the individual and I can see it being a deal breaker for those who need more weight.

As my requirements exceed what these dumbbells can provide I may have to augment with fixed weight dumbbells and/or something like the PowerBlocks. That is a problem I look forward to having. With all of that said, the MX Selects have been a pleasure to use.

They are easy to adjust, they feel solid, and I’ve been doing a lot more of my exercises with dumbbells since I picked these up.

Very happy with these dumbbells. They’re easy to assemble, easy to use, evenly balanced not super blocky. Plates are sleek, I like how they are powdered coated, and did not chip when I clanked them accidentally against other metal objects.

They are easy to adjust and the price came with the stand. A lot of these other dumbbell sets you have to pay for the stand separately, but these you had adjustable weights with the stand at an unbeatable price.

Also very space-efficient compared to a full rack. One of the best gym equipment I own, hands down.

We ordered these about a month ago. They arrived quickly! Easy to put together stand. The weights are well made. I love the thin plates and no knob on the end which makes for a flat surface for resting on your legs.

The adjustable knobs are on the top by the handle and easy to switch between weights. The stand is super nice and make racking easier! Both my husband and I love having this addition to the home gym we’re building.

I think the price is great, definitely a good buy. I was going to pay double the price for a different set, until I found this one. I was initially looking for just dumbells, but I have made good use of the barbell as well.

I like that it comes apart so the set doesn’t take up a lot of space in my apartment. It also arrived before the expected date. No problems with the shipping or the weights. Used it multiple times and it’s exactly what I wanted.

One clamp did arrive broken, but I had anticipated that possibility after reading the reviews but I decided to still purchase it and I’m glad I did. I figured, even if I bought a whole separate set of clamps, the price would still be a good deal.

I haven’t had to, as the rest of the clamps work fine. Overall I think it is an excellent deal and the quality of the weights is good.

Just received two sets, and as a stand alone barbell they are nice, hence five stars. My only disappointment is, I purchased the set for the weights, not necessarily a barbell. My assumption is, they are based on kg, hence standard one inch weights will not fit on the bars, and are slightly loose on a one inch bar.

I also can’t place a spring clip on the bars to add strength to the supplied snap-on collars. As to, would I buy these again, the answer is no. I also paid $25. 00 for each barbell, which is reasonable, but when making my review they appear to have increased in price to $44.

We ordered the Standard Olympic Weight Sets for our home gym. These are high quality weights and the bar that came with it was top quality. Fitness Giant was excellent to work with. They shipped it out right away.

It was sitting in my home gym within 2 weeks. I cant ask for better service or quality of equipment.

This weight set is awesome! I ordered the 400 lb set and I could not be happier! The bar is very strong and well made and the weights are perfect. This set was delivered on a 48 ft long 18 wheeler and the driver was great and called to let me know when he would be here so the whole process of ordering these weights until they were delivered was very smooth.

I will be ordering from Fitness Giant again!.

My local club didn’t have these, so we went to one a little further away since weights are so hard to find. Curbside pickup was great! Loving this 5-set of dumbbells and rack, purchased a few weeks back! They come in 3 separate boxes, making them easy to transport and carry.

The stand is easy to assemble (15 minutes, including time to get tools from garage) and is sturdy enough to hold the weights. It’s not overly large, but it would be better if it was a bit more compact – maybe straight instead of angled – for smaller spaces.

The weights are great, and unlike from other stores, these actually come in pairs. I have not seen a better price since pre-COVID, nor availability. The only negative is the smell of the rubber from the dumbbells.

They’ve been in the spare room since they were taken out of the box, and while the smell is becoming less noticeable, it’s still there. Overall, a great purchase and good set of weights for those in search of increments from 5-15#.

Like the others saying definitely had a strong smell to it when I unboxed. Hoping it will go away in time. Also everything was coated in grease, parts and dumbbells. So hands black by the time I got done assembling.

Had to do a thorough wipe down before using. Assembly was a bit tricky for one person and required the right tools in order to tighten lock nuts. Logo faded on one of the weights, but not a big deal.

I ordered this after seeing the reviews here and I was excited when the order arrived a week early. And after opening one of the boxes, I was shocked that the dumb bells were not new and there was a visible wear and tear.

I did the mistake of opening the box containing the rack stand first and then assembling it. Then I opened the second box which had the 15 and 20 lbs. dumb bells and these were used. After disassembling the rack stand, I returned this item today.

I wasted few hours on this and had to haul the heavy equipment to the nearby Sam’s Club store. Very disappointed. This was shipped from Icon Health and Fitness. I hope this feedback goes to them and they do not repeat this again.

I bought the bundled pack about a year ago and did not regret it one bit. The only thing missing was the 3. 7 size. This is the in-between size between the 2. 5 and 5kg size. Yes it is true that you can just double up the 1.

0 and 2. 5 that comes with the standard pack but oftentimes I’d want the same size on the hand weighs as the bar so I had to supplement with some had weights. Treated myself this set for Christmas and now my transitions are so much better and no more having to sub with clunky metal dumbbell weights.

Les mills should really offer 3. 7 as part of a pack option. Very happy with this purchase and with Les mills program and equipment overall. Makes body pump at home so much fun and I’ve gotten awesome results.

The Bodypump transitions are quick and effective. The extra set of weights helps me move smoothly throughout a 55 minute workout, without interruption. I think it would effect my motivation eventually, to not have the advantage of having the extra weights at-hand, from the beginning.

Home workouts are often hard to motivate in the first place. This eliminates one excuse to procrastinate or do it with less intensity. It helps establish a mindset of no excuses, from the very start.

Body Pump is my favorite workout! I am 68 years old and I have been working out with my 41 year old daughter and my 38 year old daughter in law since February. It’s nice to have the variety of other workouts that are available through Les Mills.

However, Glen and his crew are my favorite! I feel better, am more toned, and look forward to Les Mills at least 3 times a week. Thank you for all of your hard work in putting these together!.

Great, sturdy plates. I would have given 5 stars except these 25 lb plates each weighed 25.8 lbs. Other than that, I highly recommend.

Well cast weights. No rough spots or spikes that I’ve had to file off on other plates before sliding onto the barbell. Nice shiny finish. Really like the design for ease of handling.

My experience throughout the whole transaction process has been great! Special shout out to Shelly being such a gem throughout the whole process. Because of covid there was a bit of a delay with receiving the items, but communication was excellent and reassuring.
