20 Best Welder For Autobody (2022 Updated)

I purchased this welder for my shop thinking that since there was a “satisfaction guarantee” we would give it a good honest try and hope that it would work for us. The welder seems to have sufficient power but the tips only allow for very small welds- nothing like OEM welds.

Because of this, I attempted to return the welder because it will not work for us and was told that the “satisfaction guarantee does not relate to the item not meeting our specifications. ” Maybe I’m crazy but I thought a “satisfaction guarantee” means we should be able to return it for any reason that makes us “unsatisfied”, (it won’t work for us, we don’t like the color, etc).

Won’t ever buy anything from JB Tools again- horrible experience and I’m stuck with a $1300 doorstop.

This is the worst product I have purchased for my career/business. The leads get horribly hot to the extinct of smoking. The rubber liner has melet off. Leads have gotten so hot it has melted the trigger wire also.

Horrible product. Cant add a video or photos to prove claim.

Great powerful spot welder. Built like a tank!! My only complaint is the spot welder was shipped with the wrong instruction manual from the factory. No biggie because a PDF copy was available online.

Definitely worth the money.

Great tool! Studs don’t fall out. Welds them super quick. The slide hammer is good quality a grips the studs great. Wanted a collet style grip hammer instead of the lever type. Would highly recommend this tool to anyone doing autobody.

Bough this to pull a major dent in the side of my sons pick up truck from a fender bender. I have done body work as a hobby for a long time and have used conventional dent pullers in the past. This tool was incredible and the puller that came with it worked like a dream.

We drifted the dent out of the side of the truck to the point that it only needed a skim coat of bondo to be finished. It was grate having none of the holes required by a conventional dent puller. Great industrial quality tool.

This is one of those tools I should’ve bought decades ago, it made quick work out of a smashed in door on my 1988 Land Cruiser. I’ve only had it a couple days but I can tell it’s a good quality tool that should last many years.

It only takes a split second to attach a pin, and the slide hammer grabs it well and never slips. Almost bought a cheaper one from HF but so glad I spent a little more on this one.

I’m new to welding and needed a mig welder for welding patch panels in the car I’m working on. I chose this Eastwood model because I liked the features such as infinite control knobs, digital display readout which is really nice, the spot welder function, and the multi process capability.

You can’t beat the price and the 3yr warranty is what made me decide on this machine vs others in the running. After a day of practice on scraps and watching a few videos on setup and welding tips, I was able to get repeatable, great spot welds on 22 ga sheet metal.

I was even able to get butt welds without burn through. I’m welding an extension to the top shelf of my welding cart so this welder will fit nicely and not overhang off the top. Now I’m ready to actually start welding patch panels into the floor of my ’39 Studebaker.

Can’t wait to get started. And with the multi process capability of this machine I will be able to learn some tig technique as well. One other thing. The machine runs nicely off of 110v and a 15amp breaker for the sheetmetal work.

Might have to switch to a 20amp circuit for welding thicker material. We’ll see.

Projects center around restoring 2 early 70’s VWs – lots of sheet metal, lots of spot welds. Moving from a HF 125 machine with four heat ranges running flux core wire. My only “dislike”: the MIG Spot Weld Kit does not fit even though most material on the website lead me to believe it was compatible with all Eastwood welders.

Now for the “likes” (and the list is long!): spot weld timer makes repeatable spot/plug welds simple and consistent. The infinite adjustability of all the controls allow precise control of wires speed, power, and timer.

The feed mechanism is smooth a predictable. The cables have plenty of length. Besides gas, all the start-up items for all three processes (except TIG filler rod) are included. Weighs less than my old machine with more capability.

Bigger trigger on torch. Tried my first stick welds ever on railroad track section I have has anvil and successfully struck an arc and build up material with good penetration. Tried to get a pool going with TIG, but dipped the tungsten within 2 minutes – gonna keep trying (scratch start wasn’t that hard).

All in all, after 3 weeks the MP140i seems like it will meet almost all of my welding needs in the foreseeable future – glad it has a 3-years warranty, plus I got the 2yr extension. Yesterday when practicing, I stitched a 20ga butt weld that would have made Dave Kindig or Joe Martin proud – I credit the machine!.

I bought the welder to do welding on auto body sheet metal. It worked much better that my lincon 180 240 volt for this. And I was able to use a 25 foot extension cord off a 15 amp breaker. I was also able to do some heavier welding 1/4 inch stock.

I was able to weld several inches before I limited my beaker. A few parts I would like to see upgraded. But overall a vary good welder for the price. I do think the manual could be expanded upon to provide more welding tips for novices.

Like the mug gas welding shield will only twist on and off with a clockwise twist.

This kit has everything you need to put it straight to work and included loads of studs and tabs to get you started. The slide hammer in this kit is the better type with a twist to lock action rather than the unreliable thumb roller type.

Used it today to remove multiple door, arch and sill dents with great results. I would recommend this kit to anyone who is doing body repair , it will save you time and money and enable you to save panels which would normally need replacement.

Have used these machines many times over the course of my trade, although they were more heavy duty and far more expensive this works just as well. If treated well I believe this could be efficient for a long time.

This thing is awesome. Removes dents so easily. The quality is quite good. Im so glad I got this kit.

Welding Leads are Short. Have to pick up and put inside of bed to weld bedsides, and lift higher for roof skins. Will possibly look at putting on a welding cart in the near future. Welds do not seem to be a consistent diameter and doesn’t seem to maintain the proper heat throughout each weld.

(sometimes works perfect, sometimes burns thru).

Just like the one I used 30 years ago. simple, clean, predictable. get your surfaces clean, flat and well mated, and it will give excellent results. A little mig nozzle gel keeps tips clean.

Sorry this is later first time I used it today for the first time. Very think was in the box ! I really liked it works very well !!! And it comes with the plug adapter ! This is a great price for the stud welder this just what I needed.

Just finished building a small smoker for a friend at work. Getting better with my welds the more I weld still got a long ways to go but the welder did a good awesome job. When the gun got too hot I had to let it cool down or else it wouldn’t push the wire out.

I’m welding with flux core wire, leaves a lot of Splatter I think is the word but I use a wire wheel on the grinder and it cleans up nice.

This welder is great for around the shop and property. Best price that I found. Don’t think twice if you are buying your first welder. Just get it and be happy. It will handle most projects for hobbies.

I just make a double pass on the thicker materials. Make sure that if you use a generator, that it can handle above 3000 watts, Love it!.

After using my Harbor Freight cheapy for a couple of years, I decided I wasn’t going to improve my skills without an equipment upgrade. The Lincoln was easy to assemble and welds like a dream compared to the HF.

Easier to control, cleaner beads and MUCH less splatter. Recommend highly, but shop around. No sense in paying full retail.

I always used my Large Mac tool multi function mig/spool gun welder that has much more Versible functionality. It’s a pain in the butt to move around, but this little welder is much lighter and easier to get around.

It’s a great welder for light duty work. I will be purchasing the cart for it and look forward to using it every time. Note to manufacture, you should provide a longer ground cable as I will be lengthening mine.

Other the that and the helmet that’s included pretty cheesy. It’s a Great unit for the money. I do recommend.

To start with, I’ll say that this unit does seem to put out some power and the torch cable feels beefy. I was torn between this unit, the Eastwood 175, and a Lincoln 180. I figured for $339 it was a gamble – but it has more than a few shortcomings.

What tipped the scales (other than prce) was that vverall it appeared very similar to the Eastwood 175 which I’ve heard good things about, only this one was capable of SMAW and could use a spool gun (which can be found for about $100).

But once the unit arrived, I immediately noticed some basic design flaws. Let me preface this by saying it’s not my first wire welder. I also own a Lincoln Handy Core that has been flawless for the few years and have had no complaints about.

I wanted to start doing MIG and perhaps try my hand at SMAW in the future. 1) The ground cable is only 5’ long (closer to 4’ after installation) and is quite awkward to use considering the torch is 10’ long.

2) The 6-50 plug attached to the machine uses only 12 gauge wire. For a unit with an input rating of 28 amps, it should be at least 10 gauge. This makes me wonder how much voltage drop may be occurring at full-load.

3) There is no knurled roller for running flux-core wire included, nor is one available. By dimensions, it appears to be identical to what’s used on the smaller Eastwood 135 welder – which only offers a knurled roller for 0.

6mm and 0. 8mm wire. 4) The drive roller is an anemic 20mm diameter, whereas the Eastwood 175 uses a 30mm diameter roller. 5) The drive roller assembly is plastic. This wasn’t a surprise based on the images shown for the product, but combined with a small drive roller 6) I have an issue with flux-core wire constantly binding towards the tip of the torch.

Wien it is feeding, it can become unexpectedly inconsistent when feeding wire as it rhythmically surges out of the tip. This is with the torch as straight as reasonably possible considering the obnoxiously-short ground cable.

7) It requires an uncomfortable amount of torque on the wire spindle to get a reasonable amount of resistance on a 10 pound spool of Lincoln wire. 8) The access panel for the wire and roller binds on the plastic housing.

I’ve tried loosening the hinge screws, tweaking the door as far back as I can, but there was no real improvement. I could probably just trim the door with a flapwheel or grinder, but since the unit is under warranty, I’m not inclined to modify it.

9) Even after very carefully inserting the torch into the machine, the O-ring for the shielding gas tore. I switched it for another identically-sized O-ring and the same thing happened. It tears on the rough surface of the bore where the gas is.

If you stick your finger in there, you can feel the burrs that are tearing the inner O-ring. That said, there are added expenses and work required to get this machine to what I’d consider acceptable.

10’ of 2 or 4 gauge ground wire, extra drive rollers (or a better drive assembly since these rollers are virtually impossible to find), trimming the access panel, 10/2 or larger power cord, and possibly a Teflon torch liner This adds-up very fast When you add them all up, it appears the Eastwood 175 would’ve been a better bang for the buck as a value-priced welder – or just go straight for something better and for the piece of mind knowing that everything will just work right out of the box.

I’m not sure what the return policy is. I bought this about a month ago and only this past weekend did I have a chance to use it. I don’t want to steer away people from this machine entirely. If you need a machine with some power and are on a tight budget, it would probably get the job done if you are exceedingly patient and forgiving.

This is the best mig welder you can buy in this price range hands down! Do note it is 220v only, no 110v option, but this thing runs smooth and produces high quality welds from sheet metal up to about 3/8’s.

the consumables are easy to come by which is handy. you can even get a spool gun for this thing to weld aluminum, or switch over and stick weld with it right out of the box. the duty cycle also seems to be better than rated.

I have a bit of a habit of cooking welders as I am generally welding large areas of thick material, but this little thing just did not care. which is great in a small unit like this. I have some things I take issue with however.

I had issues with the gun, and ripped the o ring gas seal when putting it together. they rubber seems to be garbage, even with a bit of grease on the seal it ripped like nothing. also the door to access the spool is held on with plastic hinges and didn’t line up at all out of the box.

lastly the thing i disliked the most was the 1ft long ground made of what is more like speaker wire than ground cable. It is enough to work but upgrading to a 25ft long 4 awg ground wire makes me mush happier.

Save your self some time and money, don’t buy a 110v unit when you can get this for less. Just buy this first, you can turn a powerful welder down, you can’t turn an under powered welder up.

I’ve used the kit on a dozen dents, some about 10″ diameter and it works surprisingly well and very easy to operate. The slide hammer is well designed and effective. My only concern is about longevity – that said, it’s paid for itself already.

It works amazing! So far it has been successful everytime to get those dents pulled out.
