Ive had 4 different chipping hammers. Two of the black spring handle hammers that are the absolute bottom of the line, barrel or whatever phrase you use for cheap. Then I got an Atlas. Its a really good chipping hammer.
Then I found out Estwing makes one. I own 3 other traditional Estwing hammers and they have been amazing tools for over 20 years. So I had to buy one of the chipping hammers. I have to say. I am not disappointed.
I would like to point out that the handle is not leather inspire of the description. Its molded and for all purposes seems great. I havent gotten any hot slag or metal. Hopefully its silicone. We shall see.
I bought this to assist with a couple of projects Im working on: A shed, well house and pool cabana. Each has flashing of course. I decided to spend the money on copper because I like the way it looks and theres a serious corrosion risk since I live in a coastal area.
I have a small brake to make bends in the copper and I use this tinsmith hammer to finish and install the flashing. This hammer is excellent and I am happy with it. Perfect balance and weight. The square head is made for metal work.
Any pro or amateur tinker is going to be happy with it.

If you are looking for a great chipping hammer that is durable and reliable, I’m telling you to look no further, I love the handle design and the hand grip is very comfortable. I advise everyone to stop wasting your money on those “spring-handle” chipping hammers, they are made from cheap steel and if you use them daily, you will always end up sharpening them nearly every 3-4 days until there’s really no metal left to sharpen.

There’s not too much to say about this welding hammer expect that it’s the perfect size for working on just about any welding project. I suspect it will outlast me and will be handed down to my great great grandchildren, assuming they actually learn how to do things for themselves and the world still exists then.

This seller must be selling seconds or something. I’ve owned various Estwing tools in the past, and this one has been the absolute worst as far as an artisans eye sees. This one had a out-of-square hammer face ground, the hammer handle had very sharp edges to it and the point was not centered on the longtitudinal centerline through the hammer head.
The finish also looked like some sprayed-on epoxy paint. I’ve mostly beaten limestone, siltstone, sandstone, and hard conglomerate melange-like Ozarks stone with this hammer. No granite or diorite or whatever, just local stone that grows moss on it.
I have to constantly re-dress the hammer face and the point is useless for single-point type rock striking because it mushes over so badly. I also do not recommend hitting any steel rock chisels with this hammer because the hammer face is prone to chipping.
The steel in the point is good if you sharpen it then it works great as a scribe point for structured stone products like pavers blocks and bricks. It can handle that level of wear and ‘abuse’. If this hammer is indicative of modern Estwing quality and materials, then I recommend that you go to local flea markets and yard/ garage sales and see if you can find an old Estwing you can pick up on the cheap.
The old ones were made out of way better steel and/or their process of hardening and tempering was better than what they churn out today. Disappointing.

If you SMAW (stick) or MIG weld often, this is well worth the money. As compared to the “standard” chipping hammer (a hunk of chinesium ‘welded’ to a stick of chinesium with a coil spring for a handle) there is simply, no comparison.
This is a solid piece of forged, tempered, American steel. After multiple uses, both edges are still quite sharp. The acute point is very handy for getting into tight corners (angle iron) as well as scraping along the edges of your bead.
