20 Best Well Pump Brands (2022 Updated)

Had issues with water pressure in my home. It dropped under 30psi. Showers were like sudsing up in the light rain. Forget about someone washing their hands while showering. I installed this pump at the main inside my basement.

Figured out how to adjust and set minimum and maximum PSI and never had one issue with pressure again since. I used Pex pipe with Shark bite fittings. Ran new pipe from the main coming into the house and routed it up and over the pump and into the existing pipe going to the whole house (as a bypass Incase I have to shut down or remove the pump ever).

I ran the intake from the new bypass with a shut off valve, check valve and pressure meter. Ran output line back into the bypass with a shut off valve before the bypass. ONLY ISSUES I RAN INTO – – – !!!! Same issue everyone sees to have – No matter how much you tape the threads and torque the intake output lines/fittings there is always a slight leak at both.

I will have yet to find a fix. Next issue is the clarity on psi adjustment. If I remember correctly, the vague setting guide is on the back side of the cover. I set my pump to kick on at 45psi and shut down at 62psi.

Households faucets and fittings are said to be rated at 60psi so I didn’t want to go over that by much at all. But this setting set seems to be perfect for our 3br 1ba home. We can run washer, flush toilet, do dishes and shower at the same time now with no noticable pressure drop and it’s great!!!.

This is my 2nd Drummond Shallow Well Pump in 5 years. The first one would still be going strong, but I did 2 things wrong: 1) I unwittingly allowed a slow, continuous drip to occur from the outlet connection, which kept the tank flange moist, helping to prematurely rust out the tank.

2) I neglected to put a warming light in the pump house on a cold night, and the pump froze. The weak spot from the rust coupled with the freeze were too much for the tank and it ruptured. No replacement tank seemed to be available from the Drummond “available parts” list, so I got a new one which works great.

Lessons learned, I see no reason why this pump shouldn’t last 10 years or more if properly cared for. I use this pump for irrigating lawn and garden, as well as washing boat frequently after trips in the salt creeks, and cars.

The pump generates more than adequate power to clean sticky pluff mud off of freshly harvested oysters. Way less expensive than other pumps, and easy to install.

This is the slightly costlier of the 1/2 hp Red Lion pumps. It’s quite enough to have a conversation right next to it. Its’ used to pump up a 5′ intake, then 40 ft up, and 250 ft horizontally. We get 10.

5 gpm to our pond, slightly more than the lighter more electrically frugal Red Lion pump. It’s rated to use 5. 9 amps of 220 and weighs a hefty 36 lbs. It quit after I changed the back flow valve which was longer and managed to suck up a small 22 caliber rock from the creek bottom, which plugged an orifice just inside the intake.

Thought I had destroyed it but it’s still pumps when I tested it.

Bought an RJS PREM 1/2 hp in 2017. In November of 2021 it started squealing and soon the bearing closest to the pump seized up. Upon inspection, it looks like the seals were leaking and the bearing was coated with lime residue.

The ceramic bushing was worn out of round. I would like to repair it, but the websites only offer a few parts for the pump — no bearings, bushings etc. So I spent around $300 for a pump that lasted only 4 1/2 years.

The pump I replaced was a Goulds and was 49 years old and still worked.

I had a 3/4 hp Wayne shallow jet pump, three months after the warranty ran out the seal broke and flooded my laundry room. This time I purchased the Red Lion 1 hp cast iron shallow well pump. My son had problems with the install and called the tech support.

They were amazing the gentleman stayed on the phone with him while they tried different things to trouble shoot the problem for over an hour. It kept shutting off and on, when I got home I asked him if he ever changed it to the 115 from 220 like the book said, he said yes.

Well he doubled checked all wiring and the bolt connection, it was still on 220. Oops after switching it over it works great now. My second to last one lasted over 30 yrs I can only pray it doesn’t go right after warranty runs out like the last one.

But tech support gets a big five stars from me ty for your help. I would thank them by name but my son never told me what it was. Also, received pump in three days everyone all other pumps I checked wouldn’t arrive till three weeks after I placed my order.

I was already out of water for a week I wasn’t waiting another three weeks. No stores near us carried pumps, but you could order it online through the stores website, that’s how I found the Red Lion Pump.

I bought this to use as an irrigation pump at my lake place. I use lake water as the source. Pumps works extremely well – it’s quiet and puts out more than enough water to run an impact sprinkler. I almost bought the 3/4 hp version but settled for the 1/2 hp model – as it turns out it puts out plenty of water for my use.

I was originally going to buy a pump with a plastic pump casing, but after reading several reviews on-line, I decided to stick with the tried-and-true cast iron casing. Installation was straightforward.

I really like the way Superior Pumps has their electric junction box set up to easily change from 115v to 230v. I’ve got mine set up for 115v but may change over to 230v at a later date. Something else I did was bypass the pressure switch.

The pump is installed at a weekend vacation house and I did not want to take the chance of having a pipe break and the pump come on and run 24/7. I run the pump manually from a switch mounted on the side of the local power distribution center.

One thing that I noticed when installing the suction and discharge connections – I used Teflon tape on both (along with thread sealant) fittings. If you use PVC fittings (like I did) you have to be very careful not to cross-thread them.

I probably should have cut back on the teflon tape wrap, but I wanted to make sure I didn’t have any leaks.

I purchased this pump to replace an existing pump that was not capable of pressurizing a 100 gallon water tank to 65 PSI. The existing pump run for some 15 minutes but could not go above 52 PSI max. Almost all pumps on the market are set to 20/40 or 30/50 and are specified to a max pressure of 50 to 67 PSI.

This pump is rated at 79 PSI max. This pump came with a preset of 20/40. When I readjusted the settings to 45/65, it increased the pressure in the tank from 45 PSI to 65 PSI in just 2 minutes. I am pleased with the performance of this pump.

Just installed the Superior 94505 pump in a project house. The well is located about 20′ from the house and is about 20′ feet deep. Water in the home had been down for some time so it took a couple of primes but once the new pump got water it took it fast.

Runs quiet, has nice steady pressure and builds to shut-off after use very quickly. Easy hookup and very pleased with the initial performance and price of this pump.

I used this pump with a 20 gallon pressure tank to setup a booster system for my city water. Water from the supply is 30 psi and drops down to 26 if you are using a couple fixtures. The house always had a booster pump and tank but it was pretty sketchy and didnt work the best.

The old pump short cycled constantly probably because of installation error, missing check valves, gauges, etc. 16 years and 2 pumps later I decided to tackle it myself. The Goulds manual that came with the pump had the exact directions for using it as a booster pump with a municipal water system and I followed them to a tee.

The install took about 4 hours but it was well worth it. It maintains a minimum of 35 psi now and takes it up to 50 psi whenever the pump kicks on, which isnt very often. Excellent!.

Second time I have purchased this item. Works well for our seasonal cabin. Pumps water up about 20 foot change in elevation. Instructions good, came well packed with no shipping damage. Comes with pre-installed pressure switch, now using a plastic line instead of copper line.

Hope it is as durable. Only complaint is the included pressure switch does not have a fail-safe if system suffers a pressure loss.

This pump is in commercial service delivering water to a corrision prevention pre-treatment system. It replaces the same pump that had been in service for three years. The pump undergoes approximately 6000 start cycles per day x 6 days a week.

The other pump was removed because of failure of the centrifugal switch that controls the cut out of the starting capacitor, when the pump motor comes up to speed. Overall the pump is in pretty harsh service.

A new centrifugal switch was ordered for the removed pump and it will be kept for a spare. Inspecting the removed pump after 3 years of service: It turns very easy and the bearings run cool and quiet.

No leakage is present from the mechanical seal. Previously – the original pump provided by the system builder failed every 5 to 6 months. The Gould pump is pretty much bullet proof.

Has to be hard wired because this is a new installation on 220 volt. There is no information in the manual on what amp braker size should be used on each leg if it is 220v and no information on amp braker size should be used if it is 110v.

And therefor there is no information on what wire size should be uses (50ft underground run).

Pump was easy to install but did not come with electrical cord. Had to re-wire cord form old pump. Otherwise pump settings and operation has been good. Need to see how it performs over longer term before can give solid ratings.

(only 3 weeks since installed).

Install was easy. Instructions easy to follow. The only negative I have is I did not receive a sales receipt. Without the receipt the guarantee/warrantee is not valid.

This pump when purchased did not state it needed a Air Control Valve, & honestly Ive never heard of one. It goes connected to a galvanized 42 gallon tank in which I happen to have one on my set up. Had to purchase it separately from another company for approximately 22$.

But its surrounded make the pump run efficiently. Definitely will give another review when I have it all set up. I have another pump running my system till when I receive my 1/2 piping to make a 24 stand for this pump to keep elevated from casing top.

Bought as a replacement for my StaRite Vertical Deep Well Pump that had gone out. It was made by the same company and identical to the StaRite as far as mounting and performance requirements but several hundred $$’s less.

It arrived ahead of scheduled date of delivery which was a big plus as I had been without water almost two weeks. Installation was a breeze as it bolted perfectly onto the well pump housing of the StaRite assembly even tho it came with a new one I didn’t have to use it.

It primed the 1st time and adjustments for pressure were made and has run beautifully since installation. I have noticed no differrence in performance of the two pumps and water pressure is the same as before.

I would highly reccommend this well pump to anyone looking to replace their StaRite Vertical Deep Well Pump as the performance (so far) is just as good for far less money.

Ordered product in July. Received in late fall. I have no idea how this will work as I was unable to install the pump due to frost hitting in the North East. Ask me next summer. Very heavy water pump.

I am very dissatisfied, not with L & M Fleet, but with the description of the Wayne Shallow well pump I purchased. My 20 yr old Craftsman pump must of had a “check valve ” installed in it, The new wayne pump DOES NOT !! Found out the hard way and in reading the installation instructions it does not mention putting a Check Valve in at all !! Poor poor identifications !.

Finally got pump back in well just before winter turned cold. Pump works great. Took a shower out in the glass shop and it was glorious. Very good pressure with the built in check valve. The electrician liked the combo control box matched with the pump.

So far, so good. Well does not get used that often so we will see how it holds up. This is my fourth pump in 35 years. This is the first Red Lion. Looks good.

This pump is as good as advertised. Very easy installation when I threw the power to it I was surprised how fast it reached 50 psi to satisfy my cutoff switch. It’s supplies good pressure. I would recommend this pump to anybody.

My pump sits down 80 ft one inch drop pipe and has no problem satisfy my 30-50 cut off switch.

We are first time do-it-yourself well pump installers and we had absolutely no issues with the installation of this well pump or the control box that came with this brand. We chose this product based upon it’s reputation and its motor.

Price for us was secondary. Thankfully, Red Lion has not out-priced itself against the competition. We dropped this pump 140 feet down using 20 foot sections of #40 PVC pipe and pipe dope. On the pump discharge outlet we wrapped the thread five times with Teflon Tape to connect the pump to the PVC pipe.

We used Super 88 Heavy Duty Electrical Tape to secure the wiring to the PVC piping every 10 feet. In addition, we also used zip ties every 10 feet, so literally, the electrical cables were secured every five feet of PVC pipe.

Yes, it was probably a bit overkill, but it wasn’t an unnecessary step in our minds. We also attached airline cable to the pump instead of using rope or vinyl parachute cord. We have been using the new pump for about three weeks now and we have not had one issue.

So far, we are incredibly pleased with the well pump’s water production and the well pump’s power also, the 12 GPM was a much nicer draw to this product for us over the standard 10 GPM produced by the competition.

In the event we have an issue with the pump which we are not expecting, we will update this post for the convenience of potential buyers perusing this site for a solid well pump at a fair price.

Bought this unit in Dec. 2018; only worked for 8 months. Am unable to get help on how to initiate the manufacture warranty since the extended warranty refuses to cover part. Given the run around. I would not recommend this company, nor walmart.

Direct replacement. Installed in an hour. Not sure why it doesnt come with gasket. You need one with every install. My last one lasted 20+years.

I have only had this pump installed for a couple/few weeks, but it is working great so far. I was able to use the under water electrical connection shrink-wraps to seal up the wiring connections perfectly.

We are just using this for about 80% of our house, but it has no issue keeping up. I also bought a small 20 gallon reserve/pressure tank so that the pump does not need to run as often to maintain pressure.

I bought the 120v version so there was no need for a controller, just a pressure switch and a expansion/pressure tank. The only thing that it didn’t have, that was needed, was a fitting to connect the 1″ PEX line to the unit.

After talking to technical support first to compare my well depth and other needs, then talking to customer support, I knew this pump would deliver. It arrived intact and very quick to my address, together with its control box.

I saw its state of the art construction and corrosion resistant materials and my well pump installer was very impressed with its 3 year warranty. The pump he usually installs for people only has a 1 year warranty.

He liked the features on this Red Lion pump also. We installed this pump to a depth of 298 feet and it runs very smooth and tested it and it delivers exactly as advertised at 12 gpm! Full 60 psi output and my showers have never been so powerful! The control box has the overload reset buttons on the bottom of its box, just in case, here to mention because that was not seen in the website page.

Also, installed another check valve above this pump, 200 ft in the water line as per instructions, here to note too, together with an 87 gallon pressure tank, new well T, with a 40/60 pressure switch.

The other pump lasted 23 years and I have high hopes for this Red Lion 1 1/2 hp pump as well. Great quality at a fair price!.

The County Line pumps that I have purchased have been crap. I have replaced 5 pumps in 4 years. The ONLY reason I keep purchasing the trashy pumps it Tractor Supply will not credit the cost of the pumps or the extended warranty to another pump manufacturer.

The longest service time on a County Line pump is 16 months, then 14 months, then 6 months, then 8 months, then FOUR DAYS. What a piece of total TRASH. I have to replumb the supply and discharge piping each time because the matching pumps are NOT available when the pumps FAIL.

I have a farm with animals and residence and the County Line JUNK has let me down so many times as well as loss of time, labor, parts when changing the pumps out. When one buys this trash you have to cross your fingers that it will work.

Great pump but if you use it seasonally (I use it for summer irrigation) the impeller bearing can lightly seize. When you start it back up, the motor will hum and you might think you need a start capacitor (which is a possibility).

If it isn’t the capacitor it is either an open winding or seized bearing. You have to take the rear cover off to put a flat bladed screwdriver onto the shaft to spin it free. If you try to spin the impeller fan thru the cover slots the fan will spin but by slipping on the shaft so you’ll think the shaft is free.

The pressure switch needs to be changed. There is no protection on it. My hot water heater ruptured and the pump completely ran the well dry flooded my basement and ran till it overheated and popped the circuit breaker in the house.

The replacement one about 6 months into its life split the nylon hose off the nipple to the pressure switch and again flooded the basement and ran the well dry, only did the pressure spike enough when the well went dry to trip my secondary protected pressure switch.

This pump is a replacement for an identical pump that lasted 11 years. It performs flawlessly. I did not rate it for 5 stars as it arrived with a bent mounting base and would not sit level as it should.

I had to modify the base by using a supplemental bracket and shim to get it back to level. This pump should not have left the factory in this condition.

purchased the Sta-Rite HND-L 3/4 HP pump. plumbing and electrical were straight forward, but not recommended for the inexperienced. i needed to also purchase a relay switch to have my irrigation controller turn of/off the pump.

it works as advertised and is solidly constructed.

This water pump is just right for the job. It is the same as the one that I had there for years. Good quality and last a long time. This has supplied our house longer then any of the other pumps we had.

Satisfied with pump but the shipping was not that great.The paint was rubbed off the discharge flange because the pump had been riding around in the FEd. ex truck upside down for two days!

The pump of this type that failed was made in 2002 and just died in 2019. The used one of the same type that we just installed looks to be in good shape and is running flawlessly. I’m 67 and this pump might run longer than I will.

We shall see. 🙂 Long and short of it – Myers green pumps are the only thing I’ll be buying for any future projects.

Nice pump. Ordered to replace a 25+ year old Sta-Rite. seems to be of equal quality to the Sta-Rite. Hope it lasts as long. One downside is that it doesn’t have a tap to install a pressure gage on the load side of the impeller.

I bought this same jet pump 11 years ago. Knowing that the shelve life of these pumps is about 8 to 10 years. I wanted to buy a back up before my current pump died. This gives me a chance to shop around and get the best price.

Which I spent about a month shopping and finally pulled the trigger. I now have a brand new pump sitting on the shelf. Forget the 3 year warranty, these pumps don’t break down that quick. I’ve tested this pump buy hooking it up where my old pump is.

Everything worked just fine. Put the old pump back on and I’m good to go. The more expensive pumps are said to last 15 to 18 years, and so I bought one before the one I am using now. ( That cost 3 times what I paid for this one.

) It lasted about 9 years. And of course broke down during freezing weather making it difficult to replace and even harder to find locally in stock at Home Depot. So how good is this pump. 5 Star.

So far so good. Pump is installed at a cottage with a lift of 18 feet ,and it works very well. The pump sometimes sits idle for a week at a time between being used, and it is nice to not have rusty water initially as was the case with our previous cast iron bodied pump.

Pump is quiet and have only had it installed for 2 months so that is the only reason for 4 stars.

I have went through 4 of these pumps in the past 5 years, most current I got from Home Depot in Longview Tx. It only gets up to 10 psi and shuts off. I have tried everything, and got a different brand from a different store.

NO PROBLEMS.

Flotec shallow well jet pumps are amazing! I have installed several of these pumps in rural homes with excellent results. Some are over 10 years old and are still working perfectly. I was recently asked to check one of these as a precaution as it runs under severe circumstances and found little wear, certainly not enough to impact the pumps performance.

I was very happy, surprised and impressed. These pumps are also surprisingly quiet when running. While lightweight these pumps have outperformed much more expensive and heavier cast Iron pumps and european Stainless steel pumps I used to install.

They are straight forward to connect and easy to install. As with any pump sizing is important. Don’t undersize the pump. Also the use of correctly matching piping, a one way inline valve and pressure tank will help provide many years of trouble free service.

I would highly recommend these relatively inexpensive pumps to you.

I have had nothing but bad luck with this pump. I hooked it up to my well and applied power. I could not get it to stop running. I called Ace hardware for advice. They said I had a leak. I have a valve in the line just past the pump.

It kept running with this valve closed. The pump smells like its burning. I tried running with the output line open. It would run at a good pressure for a short time and then the pressure drops. Should I connect a tank to this pump? It is no good as it is.

I have this shallow well pump inside my pump house to move water from outside holding drums to my pressure tank. I bought this as replacement for the exact same one that froze and cracked. It was my fault for not draining it.

Deep freeze in Texas was colder than anticipated. I’ll have a heater by it next winter. Anyway, this replacement works great, and the product seems not to be affected by the sand and minerals that run through it.

We ordered this pump and the packaging was horrible,torn up box retaped several times and no support inside the box for the pump. Just the pump in a raggedy box. Ok so it’s just a box. Upon opening the box the pump threads were rusty and should have been shiny.

We thought maybe it was just from sitting in a damp warehouse. We waited over two weeks for it to arrive so we cleaned it up and got a plumper to hook it up. The seal was leaking and the points were no good! Pump was obviously used and returned and instead of servicing it they just shipped it back out.

Now we have the hassle of returning it and have had to purchase another one locally. Buyer beware!!!!!.

My original HJ100s ran flawlessly for a decade & a half and actually it was iron scale that clogged the jet, not a failure of the pump. I ordered a replacement HJ100S when I noticed recovery times increased and pressure fluctuations.

Now with a rebuild kit I have my old pump refurbished & ready to go as a replacement and Ill rebuild the new pump when its time. These are really durable units and can be rebuilt indefinitely. So five stars for the HJ100S.

It took more than 30 days for me to receive this pump. I’m sure it will work well so my discomfort is with pumpproducts. com. There was no communication, I had to constantly ask them for updates. I’m quite disappointed.

This is a backup purchased for one that has been working fine for about 5 years now. I just live in a remote area and wanted to have a spare on hand as this usually last me about 8-10 years on average.

Seems to be pretty robust. Came well packaged from the factory and arrived in good timing. Thanks Zoro for a great price!.

I installed this pump 2 months ago for watering my garden with rain barrels. It works great! Although, I’ve only been using it for 2 months, I gave it 5 stars for now since I am totally satisfied but time will tell.

I’ve have a well pump that is about 15ft deep. I’ve tried using various DC 12V and 24V pumps to try to get water out. They work once then lose suction. I finally bought this pump and the water has been flowing since.

I’ve used it with a quiet generator rated at 1600W continuous (2000W surge) and had no problems. I’d say I’m seeing about 3-5 gallons per minute but that’s probably more limited from the well than the pump.

Overall, especially considering the price, I’d say this was a great buy.
