17 Best Wheel Truing Stand (2022 Updated)

You get what you pay for. This is a basic truer that does the job and can be folded away and stored when not used. Perfect for myself that wasn’t happy with the truing the LBS did and can use it for the occasional maintenance of my bike.

The build quality is good and it’s sturdy. If you want more accuracy then look at a more expensive truer that comes with knobs for finer adjustments. If price is an issue, storage, and frequency of use is minimal then this is your stand.

Obviously a professional bike shop wouldn’t want it but it is more than up to the job for a keen enthusiast in their garage. For the price the quality is good. It made trying my wheels up a whole lot easier.

I bought this to build up two new wheels and straighten some others. Its easy to use, folds away neatly to store and does exactly what is needed. Much better than spending 20 a time at the LBS! You wont be sorry with this purchase.

I am very familiar with this wheel trying stand as far back as the early ‘80s working in various bike shops. I once owned one at home and lost it due to theft. I finally bought one again for home. I like the plastic protector ends, and where everything else about the stand feels unchanged.

As a wheel trying jig, there is no substitute. Then why such an average rating? The treaded collar that accepts the treaded knob to raise and lower the truing arm was not smooth. I had to chase the threads with a tap so that the treads didn’t snag during adjustment.

The pet peeve I have about this stand is after 40+ years I’ve had the occasion to use these stands, Park has never considered how the wheel mounts on the frame or fork, where the dropout is of a certain thickness.

Then when mounting the wheel into the truing stand, the wheel’s quick release lever has to be screwed in tighter to lock onto the stand. When you are done truing the wheel, again you have to readjust your quick release lever to fit in the frame dropouts.

It seems like a simple upgrade for this stand to have wheel mounts on top that are the thickness of a standard dropout so that the quick release axle lever doesn’t need this adjusting. It may not seem like big deal, but considering that this truing stand is generally considered the best of the best, the design has rested on its laurels and somewhat forgotten, with minimal innovation or improvement.

For the price being paid for this, there is an opportunity here to revisit the design and ask how it can be made better.

Quite decent tool if you get it working. Won’t stand on its own. Bolting to board or something is not quite straightforward, the bolting recess is in difficult place. Out of the box already calibration was off, needs recalibration, but calibration tool is not included, it costs about 70 euros if you can even find one, now it is like hen’s teeth here.

Would recommend if it would include the calibration tool (just a symmetrical plate with two cyllindrical ends).

The Park TS-2. 2 is a big step in the quality and burliness of a stand for wheel building or truing, compared to the “home use” versions available for 1/2 to 1/3 the price. It’s not so much the convenience of quick and accurate knob adjustments, or the 19mm centering nut adjusters (I keep a box wrench dedicated for the Park), as it is the steadiness of the set-up.

The tilt base is handy, although not necessary. With or without the base, the stand works perfect, and I like the base for the parts bins and about 4″ set-off from the workspace edge where it’s bolted down with 3 deck bolts.

With wheel buils about $100. 00 and truing around $25-$40. 00, the stand will pay for itself quick, and have you rolling on your own schedule. no waiting for a shop to open to pick up wheels. Well worth the effort to learn how to build/true.

Mais pour un particulier, je trouve qu’il suffit amplement. Le seul bémol, mais je titille, c’est le petit manque de précision de serrage du palpeur en latéral lorsque l’on veut affiner avec encore plus de précision.

celui ci se décale légèrement en bloquant sa position. un détail. Produit stable, bien conçu et solide. Pied pliable, donc cela facilite son rangement. Accepte les roues en 29 pouces sans aucun soucis.

Okay, the Park Tool truing stand is expensivee, I acknowledge that fact, but when it arrived and I opened the unexpectedly heavy box, the quality built into the tool was obvious and I knew that I had made a good choice, one that will last for many years.

The truing stand is fantastic and though its a hundred dollars more than the others I was looking at, its well worth the extra money. The tool is very accurate, its a precision instrument. Ive used it on 3 wheels thus far and its made my life so much easier.

I wouldn’t want to own a good bike without this. It will help make maintenance more enjoyable. I look forward to adding the gages that are available soon. If you are wavering on which stand to buy, just look at the photos.

The others are sometimes of weird and flimsy design. This thing is awesome. Also. no need to add the axel stem, at least not for me. My road wheels fit nicely and easily into the tool without messing around.

They clamp right in and the adjustments are easy.

This really is what the professional use to build and true wheels, and using it, I can see why that is the case. The wheel is held firmly between the arms, with just a simple knob to lock it in place.

the rim gauges are easy to align with two knobs one for wheel diameter and one for rim width. I did find that the rim gauge pointers were a bit off centre, so I had to rely on my dishing gauge to set up the first wheel.

Having set up the first wheel, there is a simple procedure to centre the arms to the rim fingers; this is laid out very clearly in the user manual. Once you reset the arms to the wheel, take the wheel out and turn it around, so the drive is now on the other side; this is to confirm that your rim actually is in the centre; if it isnt, your wheel was at fault, not the tool.

I still use the gauge for final dishing, but if the fingers are correct, they are good enough for most of the process. I also bought the older design tilting base to make it easier to use the tool, and it has a handy tray for nipples, spoke keys, washers etc.

There is a later model which was 13. 50 dearer and as an amateur wheel builder I really could not justify the extra expense. Overall an excellent tool, I highly recommend it. Remember; the quality remains, long after the price is forgotten.

After using the TS-8 was looking so forward to receiving the TS-2. 2. Especially for setting the calipers for the right dishing on 700c wheels. When I received it and set it up, the dish adjustment was already set for me.

It came that way. They do it from the factory and if its not perfect, they describe how you can do it. It makes it nice to know if your wheel is jam up on dish. Or, if it needs adjusting you take care of it with your lateral and radial clearances.

Its what I had hoped for and it didn’t disappoint here. The TSB-2 stand is nice to adjust to a clear and comfortable position for making your wheel corrections. I see why it’s listed as one of the best out there for truing bicycle wheels.

I’ve only used it for 700c front and rear wheels and a 26″ front wheel so far. Great tool and very satisfied.

I’ve only assembled it thus far. For the most part, intuitive and easy to assemble. However, too much paint in the square holes where the left and right stands attach to the base makes the hole much smaller.

Snapped a bolt because of this. Not critical just quality control lacking. In addition it would have been nice to know that it doesn’t work with 12mm thru axles unless you buy a $60 accessory. Doesn’t say anywhere in the instructions.

But Park tool has it. So add that to your cost if trying Mtb wheels.

Bought this to build my own wheel set for a vintage Peugeot race bike Im restoring. The professional stand appeared to be a little more than I needed so I gave this stand a shot. Absolutely fantastic stand.

Built front and rear wheels and they are round and true to less than 1mm. Took the wheels to my local shop and they couldnt believe it. Asked me if I wanted to build wheels for them from time to time.

Worried about dishing? Not a problem, just flip the wheel over and measure. Its a no brainer actually. I recommend purchasing the Park Tool TM-1 tension meter and using their free application. Not only are wheels true, they are tensioned to within 15% of acceptable range.

Most wheels are tensioned to within 20% limits. Every one of the seven bikes in my garage have straight and round wheels now. Its amazing how great you feel knowing your wheels are strong, straight and round.

This is a very well made truing stand that is built to be mounted or clamped to a table. Although it does not have a fancy caliper style truing indicator for both sides of the rim, it has an easily moveable indicator that is designed to show vertical and horizontal out of roundness at the same time (on one side of the rim).

I found that I could use this stand for through axle hubs as well as quick release hubs.

First off, this is a solid stand good build quality and a nice powder coated finish. It is constructed of a nice heavy metal construction that sits level even when not mounted to a platform. A lot of accessories for this.

Some of which should probably come standard like the through-axle kit and centering kit. What dinged a star off this nice unit. – Constant centering of wheels. The 2 mounts that hold the wheel do not move together simultaneously and your wheel needs to be constantly centered to the truing gauge.

There’s an accessory for that! Overall, I like the stand mainly because I can true my rotors with an accessory add-on. I don’t know if I would recommend this since it requires so many accessories just to true a wheel properly.

It would make sense to just buy the ts-4 that takes care of most of the additions you need to true a wheel on this stand.

OK, I’ll admit that I tried to cheap out and I bought a way less expensive stand. I was labeled as a wheel truing stand, but there was almost no way it was going to be easy to true a wheel with it. So, that one went back and I bought this Park TS-2.

2P. Wow, what a difference. It weighs about three times as much as the cheapo and is as solid as a rock. It made truing my wheel a snap. The only thing I wish it had was a gauge on the arm that holds the truing arms to help with centering (or offsetting) the hub, but I have another tool for that anyway.

I highly recommend this stand.

The composite is highly durable and resists scratches from blades on box cutters. It fit well, but it came bent. I’m happy to say that it didn’t affect the stability of the base once the weight of the stand was on it, however.

Overall the base and the mobility that comes with it are worth the money, but I am concerned about the tilting aspect of the stand. It will tilt back or forward if I place a heavier wheel on it with even the slightest force.

Wear and should make this worse, so I’ll see how that goes.

This base for the TS-2. 2 is awesome. You can keep tools, spokes and nipples without the need of extra containers, trays, etc. Besides, I don’t need to bolt the stand down to anything for more stability.

Park Tool always make quality products and this is no exception.

Got my stand in and assembled it in about 5 minutes. You need a 6mm hex and a 15mm box end. Theres no real assembly instructions but heres the basics. The 4 big nuts go on the feet, then the feet thread into the base.

Take your uprights, and put them so the rollers face each other. Then the hex bolts go top down. On the bottom of those hex bolts, you put your flat washer, then a lock washer, then the nut. When you tighten this, pull the upright toward the edge of the base and tighten it.

Your axle shaft now fits perfectly. You need a 4mm hex to tighten the spindle on to the axle shaft. Make sure the bubble level is perfect before you try to balance a wheel. There are lots of YouTube videos on how to balance.

I use motion pro steel weights, and cover them with black duct tape on black wheels. I can get my track bike wheel within 1/16 oz with this stand following these instructions. You can too. This isnt rocket surgery and this stand was $5 cheaper than my local shop charges to mount and balance 1 tire, so its paid for itself with 1 set.

Parts, while sturdy, are not straight & true. The rod supplied is bent in such a way that the wheel will always balance to the lowest part of the bend in the rod. Further, the rod is (partially?) coated in some sort of material that makes it rough to the touch.

Not the sort of smooth finish youre looking for here. One of the arms holding the bearings is canted ~15 degrees compared to the other. Im not sure if this affects function, but Im not going to risk it on track tires.

Spend a little more and look elsewhere.

Even if you don’t change your own tires they can go out of balance over time. This is a cheap fast way to tweak them or start from scratch after spooning on a fresh set. It took less than 5mins to put together with a socket and Allen wrench (not included) and another 5mins to have my first tire on for a test.

It fit the 21″ dual sport tire with room to spare. Great thing: it is made of a nice solid steel so shipping up a magnet with a bar would make truing the wheel easy. Just align, spin slowly and look for adjustments.

Same for checking out of round tires or tightening spokes. Built in level bubble is nice and wasn’t mentioned in the ad but is included in the base. Base is easily adjusted for level. Nothing on it can scratch a wheel since nothing touches but a shaft through the center.

Bad: the bag of nuts that hold it together broke during shipping and rubbed against the frame leaving a few scratches. A dab of wax will prevent rust and given what I will use it for I don’t worry. Verdict: I would easily recommend the balancer and only regret not having gotten one much sooner, say 25+tire changes ago! The front rides so much smoother and a mild tweak brought the 2 misaligned spokes in order.

Purchased the 20mm adapter so I can true the full range of wheels (already had the smaller sizes). The stand works well for quick trues, is portable and works with the Feedback Sports bike stands when you are on the road.

While I prefer the Park Shop stand for building wheels, this covers 90% of what you need at a good price. Wish the stand came with all the necessary adapters.

This adapter requires the hub’s axle to have a matching ID, not just the end cap. If the hub has an actual axle of 20mm or more (e. g. Predictive steering hub), this adapter will have nothing to wedge itself against.

There are alot of truing tools out there, this one is very solid and easy to use. Its not oversized but still gives you the leverage you need. Its a very nice to have when your adjustable wrench just wont get the job done right.

Great tool for the shop or on the trail. If you have rotors this should be in your tool box. If you think an adjustable wrench will do the job your wrong. This tool will save more rotors and have you back riding faster then anything else.

It’s a heavy tool and of normal park quality. The longer side of this tool is where it really shines as you can move the bottom of the rotor versus just the top. It also has the small side for just moving the top.

This tool also goes along with the truing gauge and truing stand.

I have an old wheel-building stand that I have used frequently since 1980 and it was getting rather inaccurate. The centering tool helped me get it much closer to center, a bit less than an mm overall.

In short, the tool does what it is supposed to do.

I was reluctant to buy this gauge because of the cost, and I wasn’t sure that it would make much of a difference in my wheel truing and dish. The truing stand should be centered already, right? Well, I am glad I did spend the money.

This gauge is great for centering the stand arms and the rim calipers used in truing. I was shocked by how far off my stand was with regards to dish. This gauge made getting the stand centered up and dialed in perfectly a painless and accurate process.

Well worth the money for the time and effort that it will save in keeping your truing stand true.

Park Wheel True Stand Centering Gauge is a must if you desire fairly accurate centering/dishing for wheels without relying on a dishing tool. Stand can go out of true through repeated use and the gauge allows re-adjusting, if necessary.

Good way to upgrade/update ,your old Parktool TS-2 truing stand. Now I can align wheels with DH tire on.

I was looking at buying a new stand so that I could true up my mountain bike tires, then I came across this set and just about jumped out of my chair saying YES, now I am able to true any wheel I have with no problems!!!! And you can not beat the price, there was nothing wrong with my stand other than not being able to true my 29er tires, now I do not have any problems, none at all.

During transportation of the stand, caps and one of the calipers were damaged. Replaced everything very quickly, parts of excellent quality. Park Tool in my opinion is one of the best manufacturers of tools.
