20 Best Wheeled Battery Charger (2022 Updated)

I purchased this battery charger from Home Essentials Direct warehouse. I won’t mention how badly damaged this was because that’s not supposed to be held against the manufacturer, just be aware that yours might look the same if purchased from Home Essentials Direct warehouse.

I will say that I wish I had read the description of this item a little bit more carefully I was happy to find a made in the USA battery charger without all the added technology. I was under the impression that this battery charger would be able to output higher amperage’s for continuous periods of time.

That is not the case. This thing can only handle being on its high Setting for less than 90 seconds. Regardless of how much load is on the charger the thermal cut off kicks in after 90 seconds. However this charger does do great on the 40 amp setting for continuous use.

I measured the draw with an amp clamp, even with a 20 amp draw on the high setting the thermal cut out still trips in less than 90 seconds the first time, 45 seconds every time there after. I wish I had read the description better and will be investing a few more dollars for a better quality charger.

Made in USA. This is a huge plus. Having used various chargers since I was in high school in the early 1970s, I know from experience that most chargers sold today that advertise a fast charge feature are made of inferior components and fail after anywhere from two to five years of periodic use.

If it is built with good quality parts and with good quality control, it should last 20 plus years of regular use so long as you read and follow the instructions. This is a use specific charger. It will quickly charge a heavily discharged battery or jump start most vehicles.

I am not sure it will jump start my truck, but it has a Chevy Big Block engine and takes some extra power to jump start. This charger has two charge rates and charges 6 or 12 volt batteries. And it is VERY well made and worth every penny of the price.

The absolute best charger on the market today, bar none. The reason is because it’s still all analog–no microprocessors. The battery charger, no matter the size, is one product that worked perfectly fine with no computer anything and the addition of them only made them work less well, not better.

Proudly made in America and the quality shows. Well worth the price in worry free use for many years to come, most assuredly. So very happy with this purchase, instead of wasting more money on the unreliable cheaper microprocessor controlled ones.

I can assure any would be purchaser of one the same, especially if used in your trade or business and rely on its always performing–even the infrequent user who still demands performance and quality.

I bought this charger just a month ago. I like it very much as it really does charging well. I am using it for my sum pump emergency power as well by keeping it plugged in and charging the 12V battery while having the converter connected to the 12V battery with Sum Pump plugged in to it.

It works just great!!!! I do not have to worry about getting water backed up into the basement!!! Only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead 5 is the unit does not have the report back function for status of the battery whether the battery is fully charged or what is the percentage of it.

It just keeps on charging non-stop!!!!.

I’m a little disappointed in the display. While it’s running there is no indication as to what the charger is doing. there should be an amp meter. all it does is flash the voltage. I think when done it goes into trickle mode; not sure.

Regular lead acid battery seems to charge forever. AGM battery actually gave me a green light when done charging. It charges batteries haven’t tried the boost feature yet.

Love the fact that this is on wheels! Used to take 20-30 minutes to recharge my van battery. Only took 3 minutes! I have a 1978 Dodge van, and she started quick, and runs perfect now! Thank You!!

I read a lot of reviews on various brand of battery chargers and decided on an Associated 6001A. Quick assembly and it was ready for use. Appears to be well built and will be around the farm for many years.

Best heavy duty battery charger on the market. Solid build. Intuitive controls. Heavy cables. USA Made! I have owned every brand out there. Now, I only use Associated chargers. I do wish that Associated would build an “off road” version of this charger with pneumatic tires and a slightly taller handlebar.

WHEN WE RECEIVED THE PACKAGE. THE FED-X DRIVER JUST DUMPED IT OUT AND LEFT REAL FAST. WHEN WE SAW IT WE KNEW WHY. IT WAS SO BEAT UP AND OPENED AT ONE END, I’M SURPRISED THAT IT STAYED IN THE BOX. UNFORTUNATELY, WE DIDN’T TAKE A PHOTO OF IT BEFORE WE OPENED THE WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE BOX.

THERE WAS COSMETIC DAMAGE TO THE BATTERY CHARGER BOX AND A FEW DENTS BUT IT WORKS FINE. YOU REALLY NEED TO USE A BETTER SHIPPING AGENT IN THE FUTURE.

I received the package from UPS and the side of the box was busted up and my new battery charger had some dents in it. I wished people took pride in their work. I had a project waiting where I didn’t want to send the project back or make a big deal out of something cosmetic.

The charger works great otherwise, I would buy it again.

It is a Christmas gift for my husband…He has a little one that he has had for 30 years…He has been wanting this big one for years but he just doesn’t order so I did…he will love it..

I purchased this charger to charge the 6 group 31 batteries that are in the trunk of my lowrider, and it is possibly the highest quality charger ive ever owned. Its built of an all metal shell with plenty of ventilation for the heat, and a plastic handle which works fine as it is not a heavy charger.

When charging, its pretty much just plug and play. Very easy to use, just a quick glance thru the instructions was all i needed. It will charge standard, lithium, and AGM batteries depending on what setting you have it on.

It makes a bit of noise from the fans inside the charger but you have to stand very close to hear it. The only con to this charger is that it only charges 4 banks at a time, which depending on how many batteries you have can be good or bad.

Overall i definitely reccomend this charger thru and thru!.

Hands down best investment for a battery charger if you have multiple batteries. In my case car hydraulics. No need to disconnect cables, just connect and charge.

Product was great in beginning I used it to charge six group 31 batteries few months in one bank completely went out ,ok fine Then 2nd bank went out. Sent unit in it was titled defect I basically had to call for up dates as no one would call me to inform what was the next step finally almost two months later finally today I received my charger ,I opened the box to find a rebuilt charger and used Cables ?? i bought a brand new charger with warranty and Was sent back some one elses used parts thx.

I like that you can either use the clips, or take a little extra time, and set up the permanent connectors as needed. I have an 07 Saturn Sky, with an after market Viper security system. And should I not go out every week or week and a half for a cruise, the Viper system will drain the battery.

And while jumping the Sky is not real laborious, it is rather time consuming, and, to be honest, I would rather not have to go through jumping the car, just to go for a cruise. The Battery Maintainer, and float charge is the perfect solution.

It seems very well constructed, with good thick cables, and connectors. Now all that remains, is how long it will last, as I just bought it about a month ago.

i bought this for emergency car battery jumper and it worked fine with that, but as far as charging my car battery it would not charge it. it keeps shutting down. unfortunately i have not got the box it was sent in anymore.

and dont have a return policy in effect because of the timing, i wouldve returned it long ago if i knew when the time came it wouldnt work. oh well.

I purchased this to replace an ANCIENT battery charger that recently died. The pegs for wrapping the cords on the back aren’t long enough to hold both the electrical cord and the jumper cables and there’s no place to hook the jumper cable ends other than the carry handle.

It will do the job but rather messy to store.

So far so good, nice little charger. I like the dial charging selector and the amp meter. You can tell how much it’s charging not like the ones that tells only it’s charging. One thing I wish it had is hooks to wind the cords on.

I was having a lot of battery problems in our Razor Scooters like short run times snd very low power output. aai was my cheap charger. I bought the Schumacher CR-2 Battery Charger and the battery problems went away.

I know get full charges and good run times.

Great product. Much better than the original factory charger that came with our Fisher Price ride on toy. Does fully charge in about 3-4 hours as promised. Would recommend. Online price was much better than the store price.

I like this charger much more than the OEM charger. I’m not real concerned with the amount of time ot takes to charge the battery but I do not want to over charge it either. This unit has a status indicator and goes into maintenance mode when the battery is fully charged.

I would recommend this charger to anyone who has one of the three batteries this will fit and Wal-Mart online has a great price.

I’ve always had 2 separate chargers. Went to this one to save some room and it works great. My only complaint would be the length of the cords. They’re not as long as the single chargers so i have to set this charger on 1 bikes seat to reach the 2nd bike.

But I did save some plug space and I’m very happy.

This is a good battery charger, but the one I received had two dead channels and a dead power light. Called Battery Mart and they said to contact the manufacturer for a warranty claim. I was disappointed in this response as it is brand new and I think Battery Mart should deal with it as it wasn’t right in the box, but that’s where we are.

Basically just adding wheels to the base. Really quick. The control panel is self explanatory. There’s even an auto charge, if its connected but you’ve forgotten to hit the START button. Perfect for when you’re charging a battery not connected to a vehicle.

Instructions were easy to follow. No more knocking on neighbors doors for help! Don’t misunderstand, this is a professional battery charger. Its heavy, but easy to roll from garage to vehicle. And its powerful! My brother does appliance installation and drivers a 27foot truck.

Great charger! Very strong. Seen a lot saying it didn’t work out of box but tried it anyway because of being an electrician. No voltage when you turn it on but it does have a safety feature that prevents shorting leads, blowing up small batteries.

The battery you are charging has to have a certain % of charge I just don’t know what that is. The only time that I can think this would be an issue is if you have a battery that’s down to zero or below 10% charged for example.

I had that happen with an old marine battery that had been sitting for 4yrs. I connected charger and nothing, no voltage. SO I used jumper cables and connected that battery while connected to charger to a charged 12v battery and charger clicked on and started charging.

removed the jumpers a minute later. Charged marine battery through 2 cycles. it actually rejuvenated the marine battery! What I like about this charger is it keeps charging. Just because a battery gets up to 13.

8v doesn’t mean it’s charged, that’s why I can’t stand “Smart” chargers. They say a battery is charged when it’s far from it.

no assembly required. Handle and wheels are already installed on charger. All you have to do is plug and play. Very user friendly, and does what its advertised to do. Very satisfied thus far. Another fine Schumacher charger.

It works immediately after unboxing. No three hour wait for charge time or some such secondary delay in it’s performance. No. It showed up. I hooked it up to the car. Car started without any hesitation.

This DieHard Battery Charger is manufactured by Schumacher Electric Corp. and is a a very solidly-built unit. The charger I received from Fingerhut has all of the listed specifications, but it is slightly different than the unit pictured on Fingerhut’s website.

First, there is no “Engine Start / Off / Boost Maintain” toggle switch on the unit I received. Apparently this is just an update to the original model since this charger is microprocessor-controlled.

The control panel itself is also a bit different than the pictured unit, but this should not alter the way the charger operates. The charger works like a charm and does exactly what it is intended to do.

I haven’t yet used the engine starting feature, but it charged my nearly-dead car battery very quickly. I also used this to bring two old lawn & garden batteries back to life. So far, this charger has operated perfectly, but if there are any problem with it down the road, the unit is covered by a very generous 3-YEAR limited warranty! The only issue I have with this charger is that it does not have an On-Off switch.

It has to be unplugged and then plugged back in every time a battery needs to be charged, which is a slight inconvenience. Otherwise, I’m extremely satisfied with the DieHard Gold 250-Amp Wheeled Battery Charger & Engine Starter.

I’ve owned many other types of battery chargers, but this one has all the bells and whistles you’ll probably ever need. I recommend it!.

I’m giving this item four stars because it worked when I needed it. The Price is a little high (in my opinion) but when you are desperate it’s nice to have something like this around. My Jeep was dead and my backup vehicle was also dead.

It wouldn’t start my jeep (I don’t know why). It started my backup vehicle and I used my backup vehicle to start my Jeep. It saved me from calling someone. I’m sure that would have been fifty bucks (minimum).

Great Charger for the money goes great in my shop I had problems with my first one it got damaged in shipping but Fingerhut stood behind it and sent a new one out right away. Satisfied customer.

Bought another model, got it home it didn’t work. Took it back the next day & got this model, worked 3 times over the next 7 months. Went to use it and the timer works just fine. Nothing happens when you turn on the juice.

Good thing I bought the extended warranty.

I usually don’t do reviews, but for this, I’ll make an exception. I found this easy to understand compact Stanley battery charger was the ideal choice for charging low batteries in a hurry or maintaining a fresh charge on my seldomly used RV, classic Shelby, and recreation/work snowmobile.

These rugged & powerful 8 amp chargers were specifically designed with my busy lifestyle in mind. I can simply leave the charger plugged into my batteries, with any of the three different attachments methods for charging depending on the application, and forget about it.

Now everything is ready to go when I am. The BC8S microprocessor will automatically charge my batteries to full charge and can be left on continuously until I am ready to unplug with no worry of damage to my battery or the charger, and the fact that it automatically compensates for lower voltage caused by extension cords was a big plus, since everything I use them with are spread out on my property.

I watched some YouTube videos on El Gordo, (the Fat one) and decided to buy it. Walmart had the best price and always provides great service so I ordered it online. My wife’s F150 has been sitting for a little over three months due to the coronavirus pandemic and it was not being used to go back and forth to works as before.

One day, I noticed a warning that said low battery, so I snapped and knew I needed a charger/maintainer. So, I cleaned the battery terminals and hooked little FatMax up. Well, it took two hours and five minutes before the light finally turned green to fully charged.

The little guy works fine even though it took a couple of ours to charge a two-year old Ford Motor Craft Max battery fully. It is simple to use and small just right for living in an apartment. So, I will use it every three months or so if the vehicle is not being run regularly.

This little charger does a great job. Small and compact but does just what you need it too. It Will charge 2amp or 8amp. I use mine for car batteries and for my sons power wheels batteries Ive used 2 of them for over six months without a hitch liked them so much just bought some for Christmas presents.

They come with several ways to connect to your battery with the little quick connect attached to all of them, heavy duty alligator clamps color coded, a cigarette lighter plug in, and a quick connect you can bolt on the battery.

Im satisfied with this product, it was able to charge my motorcycle battery up within about 4-6 hours. During charging the battery, I forgot my key in the ignition in the on position which completely killed my battery.

Which is why im using this in the first place. I was able to take the key out and restart the charging process over , which actually powered back the battery up and was able to start my motorcycle with the charger ! I originally bought the product for charging my dead battery.

I saw the comments afterwards saying this wont charge a dead battery, and it sure did, couldn’t be more happier. Wish I knew when it was fully charged though, not sure if the light will turn off on its own or not.

I bought a number of these over the years as they went on sale. I may have spent $0. 99 for the very first one, so I’ve had that one for QUITE a while. I still have it working flawlessly. I never understood why I would need a “smart” float charger and these have been used both temporarily as well as 4 months’ duration over the winter.

Both cars and motorcycles. Batteries should be fully charged before installation since resistance increases as stored battery voltage increases and this will never charge a 550CCA battery, for example.

A major draw for me was the extremely low amperage of the device – 400mAh, as I remember. With that low power setting, ain’t nothing going to go wrong. I’ve used these on both lead-acid and AGM batteries with ZERO problems.

In a moment of weakness, I bought a super duper branded smart charger with settings for battery restoration, automatic identification of battery type to “optimize performance”, a power port to run the margarita blender and too many other features to describe here.

It lasted ONE YEAR. Yeah, stick with this guy, don’t even need to consider the next step up in price.

I think a lot of people complaining about this charger not working is because in fact they are not using it as intended, or understand it’s purpose. It is designed to maintain a FULLY charged battery (or nearly fully charged) while in storage, or at least not used on a daily basis.

For that, they work great. If you hook this up to a dead battery, no, it will not charge it. (Why do you suppose ALL regular chargers are massive compared to this, and weigh 10-15 pounds, and cost a minimum of three times as much? Because they need LOTS of copper coils to build up high enough amperage to charge a dead battery.

This is ONLY designed to maintain that charge, which it will do fine on a good battery). If your battery is only slightly discharged, it may bring it up to full over several hours – or days – but don’t count on it.

If you hook it up to a fully charged, or nearly fully charged battery and it never goes to green, your battery probably has a short between the cells, there is a drain on your battery, or your battery is more discharged than you thought.

I’m sure there are the occasional bad ones that come down the pike, but unlikely as the technology behind this type of charger is very simple, cheap to build, and fairly consistent. For those who say it puts out too MUCH voltage for it to be a trickle charger, again, your battery may be the culprit or you just aren’t waiting long enough for the charger to establish the charge rate based on the battery condition – or your battery is too discharged.

ALL chargers start off higher than necessary until the “feedback” they get from the battery tells them where to maintain. If the voltage output is varying wildly, your charger is “hunting” to establish what rate it should use, and again, it is probably the battery or a bad connection.

Usually in that case, the charger will simply shut off as a safety precaution. If you suspect your battery has a bad cell, or don’t know how to determine that, there is a cheap tester called a hydrometer to trouble shoot that.

If your battery is lead acid, has accessible cells to the electrolyte within the battery, it is very easy to determine if you have a short, or a slightly bad cell that is draining the others. Charge the battery with a regular charger (make sure each cell is full first – use distilled water, or electrolyte solution).

You can also simply drive the car long enough for the alt to charge. Open the tops of the cells and take a full sample of each individual cell (it’s like a turkey baster to suck up the water within the cells).

Note the level of each cell, then squeeze the water back into the cell it was taken from. Repeat for each cell. If one or more cells is much lower than the others, that cell is slowly – or quickly – draining the others in order to try to maintain an equilibrium.

(that is why you never mix even disposable batteries – AA, AAA, C cells, etc. – of different age/strength as the weaker one will slowly discharge the stronger ones). If one cell is slightly lower than the others, you may still be able to use the battery as long as you drive it on a regular basis.

Just be aware if you park it for a day or more, you may not get it started. I’m always amazed how many dealers and even a few battery shops not only no longer test for specific gravity of individual cells – what a hydrometer does – they don’t even know what you are talking about if you ask.

A very slow discharge of a battery when it is not the vehicle itself discharging is almost always one slightly weaker cell. You can determine this also by completely disconnecting the battery overnight and then retesting.

No way it should discharge more than very, very slightly (unless you set it on a concrete floor). If it does, you’ve got a bad cell. You might be able to milk it along for a while, but eventually it is going to quit altogether.

I was going through a battery in my forklift every two or three years. sure they were pro-rated but always seemed to go out just outside of the free-replacement period. I got in a pinch and bought super-cheap 12 month warranty battery, thinking it would just be dead flat in a year anyway so may as well save the money.

these were on sale when I went trough HF so I bought one and hooked it up. I went on an extended business trip and returned after three months. As I drove up, my neighbor rushed up desparate “Can I use your forklift?” The iron gate he ordered came on a non-liftgate truck and they were not going to redeliver without substantial charges.

“Welllll we can see if it starts!” Normally after three months it would be dead as disco from an internal draw, and I’d have to jump start it. Fired right off like I installed the battery that day! I was shocked.

8 years later, that battery was STILL reliably cranking and starting my forklift!!! I ended up putting them on everything that wasn’t driven regularly. never failed to start after sitting. My forklift battery ended up getting the charger knocked off the seat when my Rottie was chasing a ground squirrel while I was away, and after almost 10 years that battery went flat, and was not recoverable.

I’ve used these to slow-charge dead batteries from dead, which they say you shouldn’t do, but it will do it! For the cost, I recommend these as a MINIMUM for all the guys in the car club for their cars that sit.

or even for old batteries sitting on 2X4’s in the garage for seasonal equipment. They work great, an don’t break the bank!.

I purchased one of these float chargers a couple years ago and it was great. I used it to keep the battery on my standby generator charged. I bought another charger a couple weeks ago and this new one is not so great.

The original unit had a transformer and the little inline box with the red light was a voltage regulator that kept the output right at 13. 4 volts. Perfect for charging 12 lead acid batteries that when fully charged “float” at 13.

2 volts. The “new” model only puts out 12. 4 volts which is insufficient to fully charge a battery. It will run a cell phone charger or other small load at 12 volts, but it won’t charge a lead acid battery.

The difference is easy to spot. The old unit has some heft to it. On the new one the “brick’ that plugs into the wall feels so light you’d think the case is empty because of the switching power supply, and the inline box with the red LED really IS empty except for the LED and a resistor and of course the output is not adjustable so it ends up being a 12 power supply.

I have quite a bit of merchandise from Harbor Freight in my workshop and I have been pleased with almost all of their offerings, especially the hand tools from Doyle and Pittsburgh but this “new” little charger, not so much.

I bought this Duracell 4 amp Battery Maintainer on the recommendation of my car dealership’s service department, from one of the service advisors I’ve come to trust over the years. I was a little bit thrown by the instructions that came with it because of the many safety warnings, so I called the Customer Support phone number easily found on the instruction sheet, and spoke with Michelle in Tech Support.

She was terrific, one of the best phone customer service/tech support agents I’ve ever run into, and was excellent at clearly explaining exactly how to use this Maintainer safely, what to look for on the readout window as I hooked it up to my car’s battery, and also noting details that will be helpful in using this device for years to come.

I then hooked it up to my car’s battery quickly, with no problems at all, and really appreciated her help.

I looked for a small battery checker/tester/trickle charger and I was impressed as I watched a video of a mechanic using this product. It’s easy to use, it has simple battery condition indicators and is very small.

I do my own car maintenance and this gives me a lot more information about my battery condition than my scan tool does. It will show me if the battery has a bad cell which neither my DVOM or scan tool does.

I also have another battery specific testing tool that compliments this charger. Look for this tool if you do your own auto maintenance.

I ordered this product for my tractor. Since it doesn’t get started for weeks sometimes the computer and radio would drain the battery down and I was jumping it. I installed this product and have not jumped it since.

It works exactly as they said it would. Fast shipping. Clear instructions. Very nice unit.

Still getting to know the charger. Was giving it a trial run and It turned itself off overnight sometime while charging a one year old standard battery on the 2 amp setting. I think it’s supposed to stay on and maintain the battery long term.

On a different vehicle, which is outdoors, I couldn’t leave it plugged in overnight but I could see that after 8 hours it was in Phase 7 and maintaining the battery. However, the only way to KNOW it was in Phase 7 was to get the manual out and compare the voltage read outs to the graph.

The problem being that the indicator lights light up the same for Phase 4, Phase 6 and Phase 7. The manual recommends to leave the charger hooked up until it’s in Phase 5 – steady green with no flashing yellow.

When the yellow is flashing and the green is steady you can’t easily tell which side of Phase 5 the battery is on unless you pull out the graph and compare voltages too.

An important thing to be aware of with this charger: Once it is done with its bulk and absorption charging phases and goes into its float or “completion” phase, it will not see or compensate for any load or other cause for voltage drop that your battery may experience.

In other words, once it has completed these initial phases of charging, the battery can discharge completely and the supposedly “fully automatic” logic in this charger will not see it or apply additional charge or otherwise compensate or protect the battery in any way.

It will just continue to apply the tiny float input and assume that doing so will eventually complete its cycle. Out of curiosity, I discharged my deep-cycle battery to 50% state-of-charge while the charger was in this mode and it was clueless and attempted no response.

This makes it far less useful and not protective for any applications in which the battery being maintained may experience a load that does not correspond to the charger’s logic (RV’s, alternative-energy battery, etc.

) as the unit simply does not contemplate that possibility.

Having the option to charge 12v and 6v batteries is a bonus, the display is simple to read, and the remaining 25% of the charge is a trickle rate to ensure you do not cook your battery. The best part, when the battery is fully charged, the maintainer goes into idle mode so you do not overcharge your battery.

Not sure why, but my charger came in a plain brown box. No retail packaging. Everything was in the box, looked new and works great. I did catch it at the price of 24, maybe thats why? Dont know. I do recommend it.
