20 Best Wheels For Kayak (2022 Updated)

Living in Naples Fl, Beach restoration has introduced sand to the beach that last saw Sea water probably before the dinausaurs, impossible to walk on. impossible for normal people to pull carts over, only way to launch my kayak from beach was for two people to carry kayak to water.

Got fed up of travelling to Estero or Marco to fish so took chance and bought the sandtrakz wheels. I was a dubious purchaser but really wanted to launch near naples pier. These Wheels absolutely lived up to their advert.

a 200% improvement maybe more. As easy to pull cart over this soft sand as on a hard road. Why I give 4 stars not more. The wheels keep falling off the axle. when trying to position cart prior to loading kayak.

outer track that makes contact with the sand is made of soft rubber, inner part is hard plastic. it has 2 green bushings in the center bore. in between the outer and inner wheel there are sipes that act as a cushion.

My order was placed at noon and was at by door by 1:30 pm the next day. The cart was easy to assemble and set up fits my NuCanoe Unlimited perfectly. The included straps aren’t really necessary since the foam rails on the cart grip the kayak pretty well and is easy to get on and off.

The only downside is that I won’t be able to carry it on the kayak after launching since it’s so big. It does easily break down so it’s technically possible but just takes up more space that I prefer.

Having to make trip back to the truck after hauling it down the beach and leave all my gear unattended kinda sucks. It is a little pricey too but it appears to be well made and should last a long time as long as I rinse off any saltwater.

Been struggling to find something to carry my Orca Triton. It’s a heavy tru hill fishing kayak. The wilderness system trolly has been well worth the money. Easy losing on the ramp by myself and y’all had stayed on bumping across footpaths and roadways.

Sturdy and well built cart. It was able to handle my 100+ pound tandem peddle kayak while going over some very uneven terrain that also included several large tree roots. I like the straps that come with it to help add that extra security so the kayak won’t tip over.

Wheels operated smoothly and the wheel base was sufficiently wide. After evaluating where the kayak would fit best on the cart it is a breeze to get the kayak loaded up either from the top or by tilting the kayak on its side.

Definitely a better alternative to the 150-200 dollar cart the kayak manufacturer (Hobie) offered.

This cart works even better than I had hoped. I can just set one end of kayak on it and pull them around with ease. Has straps to secure kayak but I dont need them to move from garage to garage and works in grass.

Very nice unit. If ur looking at the various other models, I cant imagine you being unsatisfied with this one! Get it.

Need to transport my 100 lb Jackson Big Tuna from garage across gravel driveway, along wooden boardwalk then thru sand to my ocean launch, and this little unit does it all!! And I love that once Im ready to launch, I can quickly disassemble and store it in a hatch.

Fantastic design simple, logical, practical!!.

At first seems plastic and cheap, but after assembly and using in soft low tide sand and uneven rocks, it’s worth it! Great cart, very handy and lightweight. Load your kayak up, walk it through most anything and pack in on your kayak, definitely recommend.

I’ve tried a few and the c-tug with the SandTrakz wheels is the Bomb, going over rough terrain and sand. For the few minutes it takes to attach it to your kayak or canoe it’s well worth the price if you want to spend less I’ll be passing you on the trail Be Well B Safe.

We decided they worked best on our SOT kayaks if strapped about 3/4 of the way back, i. e. near the back of the seats. To start we tied the straps around the center bars of the dollies at a ratio of 3:1 (the buckle end was the short end) and then when we got them bucked around the hull.

we really cranked on the strap to make sure it was tight and checked that the keels were centered on the dolly, and away we went, down the street and across some heavy soft sand. – Our only complaint is that we wish the wheels were a little more balloonish for the deep sand, but regardless, I was able to pull my dolly through it okay without dislodging my kayak.

We used the dollies serval times over a week to and from the beach, and each day I was remarking how glad I was that we had invested in them. My grandkids were able to use them easily as well. It can be a little tricky to get the kayak on the dolly in exactly the right spot to begin with, but I am 5’4″ and an old lady and I managed fine.

I bought an earlier model of this dolly 3 years ago. Tire tread on that version was starting to separate from sidewalls. After I discovered that replacement tires cost nearly as much as a whole new dolly, I just ordered a whole new dolly.

I was pleasantly surprised that the tires on the new dolly are not inflatable. They are hard rubber. I consider that a fix for the previous dolly’s only drawback. Very functional dolly! works fine and disassembles and stores in the kayak while I’m out paddling.

This little thing is a huge help in getting your kayak and supplies to the water in one trip. once you set the hang of getting your kayak properly balance on it. The included strap is plenty long and holds tight.

The cart folds as well, so I put it under the webbing at the front of my kayak and take it out on the water with me.

This kayak dolly/cart performed excellent for me as a novice kayaker. I was able to put it together with ease and once I learned the correct way to put the straps on correctly, it made my kayak as light as a feather to get it from the car to the boatramp and back.

I would buy one again and will certainly recommend it to anyone who owns a kayak.

It is very light and easy to assemble, i carried 4 kayaks with it , walking and pulling it from my car to river. It works great when learn how to strap the kayaks in the right position and pull it in the right side.

If you see the images it shows what to do For what it made is a great thing I love it.

Two seasons now with it. I can strap it to the bow of my Old Town Loon. I have knocked it around over roots, rocks, lots of gravel, pulled it over logs. I store it inside and only fresh water kayak, no rust problems at all.

I do tend to forget about the kick stand and drag it. My Loon is 30 inches wide, 12ft long. Also hauled a 12 foot Tarpon sit in top with it. I love this thing. It makes solo kayaking so much easier! I can load all my gear in the kayak on it and haul it in one trip.

The wheels fold down one on top of the other, so its kind of bulky on top of the kayak, but much better than the wheels sticking up to get caught on everything. Its the right height for me to pull it without stooping.

The kayak balances on it very well. If mine got destroyed/lost/stolen, I would get another in a heart beat!.

Used for 14’ Malibu kayak @ 60lb slick. Between this and C-Tug, wanted a solid, durable all terrain cart. Qualified for discount when getting membership. I like that I can eventually modify this to pull behind a bicycle which won me over the Ctug, which collapses small enough to fit in the hull and is all plastic versus metal and lower weight.

The wheels fold on this but does not fit completely into my compartments. Taken down a 1. 5 mike loop, half woods trail, half side of road. No sand yet, but expect some difficulty considering narrow tires.

Did well over roots and rides high so that I don’t have to stoop. Kick stand is nice feature. My kayak sits a bit off center due to 33” width but not off balance. My two year old rode along with me onboard as I walked us to and from home after a float.

Nice design and fit. Works well on hard surfaces. Handles my 85lb Perception Pilot 12. Really struggles in sand. Doesn’t have bearings. Sand and dirt get in where bearings would be and are sandpapering away the metal axle tube and the plastic wheel.

It’s eventually going to fail.

Firstly I thought I was getting the yellow set and I received the blue. Secondly the blue rubbers do not fit into the holes of the kayak. So I remove the rubbers a little disappointed on the dolly.

Dont waste your time with cheap trolleys. You will have nothing but frustration on any surface other than your garage floor! The sea to summit is simple, elegant, excellent construction and sooo much easier to use than almost all others out there.

I say best for the price,* because if you have any wide and heavy yak, then this is the best one out there for this price tag. I have had 3 yak’s one old town PDL and a big fish 108 pdl and a sit in perception fishing yak, and this cart just get the job done with no problems, fits all 3 different types of haul’s, and is a must have as a kayaker.

Get this one, and when you upgrade you won’t have to worry about is my cart going to work. With this cart Malone takes the guess work out of buying a around fair price cart.

Extremely disappointed, the online description states it’s 250lb capacity. It is not, box said 200 when it arrived, and with my canoe, backpack and a small cooler we managed to bend one of the axles going down a slightly rocky path.

I returned it. I suppose if you are just using this to strictly haul a small boat down a paved or well groomed trail sure get it but not for me.

Incredibly well designed, easy to assemble and use. Nice feature to fit it to hull during assembly or for a different boat.

The great things about a C-Tug are: 1) it is easy to put your boat on because it has a stand, 2) it dismantles easily to store in a kayak hatch, 3) adjustable hull pads accommodate a variety of hull shapes, 4) the build quality is superb, it is extremely strong (something like 120kg max load), There are also spares readily available on Ebay.

With an additional bar, two tugs can be coupled together for really heavy loads or soft ground. Upgrade to sand wheels is possible as well for really soft sand. I have found this trolley to be absolutely superb, solid and easy to use.

I got one a couple of years ago and it still looks and works like brand new. This one was purchased for my son to use for transporting his boat.

Have only used it once as yet. It did however make transportation of my kayak very easy. Could do with a carry bag that floats and be closed up to keep all the bits together in event of a capsize if you have to stow it externally to your kayak/ canoe.

Although made from plastic it appears quite solid. Unable to make any recommendations as yet as I will want to make a lot more use of it before I could do. Quite an expensive item but appears to be a bit more convenient than some other cheats models available.

Super construction, rot proof compared to previous aluminium frame, also much more sturdy. However whilst the plastic and rubber sandtex wheels are easier on sand they are much noisier on tarmac or hard finished surfaces.

Also my model has the newer metal fastening strap but still not as secure as two bungees on my old model. Planning to still add. I do move a number of different shaped kayaks from my garage 50 metres on tarmac and ,dependant on tide, further on beach, sand and shingle.

Do love the C tug in preference to old model but not quite perfection in my situation. Value for money? You get what you pay for.

Hobie kayak. It has to be over 120-130lbs loaded with gear including a cooler. On mostly smooth surfaces it rolls great. Only issue is hitting a rut or stump will cause the wheels to move out of alignment.

But I’m sure this has something to do with my heave load. I’m going to look into mounting a second strap to keep the wheels aligned. Mush easier to install than the Hobie wheels that have forks that have to be aligned through the kayak…requiring you to lift the kayak 3ft in the air.

Sometimes this isn’t easy after a long paddle. These wheels are much easier to install. I highly recommend these wheels. Just remember, with a heave load pay attention to ruts and stumps.

This little cart is great. It goes together quickly and comes apart just as easily. It fits into my rear hatch with no problems. (It does take a lot of space because of the 2 wheels, so if you’re packing gear, you may have trouble).

I’ve used it several times on a 600′ portage over mostly grassy terrain. After a couple of tries getting the best positioning on the boat (I try to go as close to center, but also catch some deck rigging to run the strap through to give more security), it makes the portage much easier than carrying.

The time it took to put unpack, put together, secure, and portage was about the same as the other two people carrying their boats.

My wife and I use this every time we go Kayaking,10-15 times each summer for the last 10 years. Works great, just park anywhere , then load and wheel the kayaks to launch point. Pulls great on hardback soil, but you have to pull the tie downs pretty tight for loose sand or the kayaks will come loose Ours have the air filled rubber tires which have been a pain because the cart doesn’t work when a tire is flat,(happens more often than you think) and now our tires are worn out and coming apart , and tire shops can’t get this size for replacement so we will buy this new updated solid tire version.

This size is for 24″ wide kayaks max. and folds up just right to fit into our rear storage compartment. I don’t think the larger styles would fit into our rear compartment. I also just broke a tie down strap so its probably time for new ones.

Solid kayak cart that is quickly adjustable to fit any in my fleet. Breaks down just as fast to stow away. Outstanding customer service for replacement parts. I have used this cart for 6 years.

Another outstanding product from you guys! This works over terrible terrain both uphill and down. Seems to be built like a tank.

Like all Railblaza stuff this is an excellent product. Bought it to move around my inflatable and outboard when camping. Very easy to move both boat and motor on firm surfaces and wet sand. Can be a bit of an effort on soft loose sand but I guess I’ll have to get fitter.

Very well made and quite strong however they are not suitable for my inflatable as they are too big and take up to much space. I would not be able to turn a corner with out the outboard striking them.

So at this stage they are surplus to requirement. NO good to me at all.

We had a huge problem paddling down the River Murray when we trundled the kayaks through a patch of bindi (3-cornered Jack). Those nasty spikes flattened my tyres, but fortunately we found the problem and carried my mate’s similar portager over the patch.

Haven’t tried these out on a real trip yet (will do in August), but they look solidly built and should solve the eternal problem of pneumatic tyres getting leaks etc. I note the NZ manufacturer now sells these as standard items on new C-Tug trolleys; good thinking; too many complaints from Aussies?.

The best C-Tug puncture free wheels I have purchase. There are many options that are available and easily installed for the Hobie Kayak.

Bought this for a tandem kayak. Upon receiving it, was pleased how easy it went together. The whole thing basically came assembled with the exception of the wheels. Seems to be good quality, but didn’t use it per below.

Upon trying to use it, found it wouldn’t accommodate the deep ‘v’ on the hull of our tandem kayak. Designed for something with a flatter bottom. Will be returning it.

We have 4 kayaks in my household. 3 of them are light enough to carry to and from most of the places we need to get them to. I bought this Railblaza CTug specifically for the Topwater 106pdl that I had just t ordered at the same time.

I had heard some really good things about this cart, and it looked like a really nice design, so I ordered it without checking into how well it would work with the Topwater. The thing is, it absolutely does not work at all with this kayak without mods.

After the maiden voyage of my new kayak I attempted to load it onto the CTug and discovered that it would not sit on the cart no matter where on the hull I tried to put it. It would work with some mods but I don’t want to be bothered with spending the money and time to mod a brand new cart that wasn’t inexpensive to begin with.

I ended up keeping it to use with the other three kayaks because it really is a nice cart for those. It’s sturdy and lightweight, assembles and disassembles quickly and easily, and can be stowed in a relatively small space.

I really wish it would have worked with my kayak. I decided to order a different cart that’s better suited to the Topwater. But for anyone who’s kayak will fit comfortably on the Railblaza CTug, this is a great cart.

The lure 2 is very heavy to move, even with the wheel in the keel. The C Tug, when placed toward the middle of the kayak, makes it feel like pulling something extremely light. Could not do without this product.

As for the Perception outlaw, it works but does not fit well. The kayak sits lopsided, but I will still use it. As long as it gets me where I’m going, I don’t care it it sets a little off center.

The straps are big enough to fit around any kayak, if you know how to adjust the straps. I have been able to pull my kayak up hills with no problems. The cart has worked through gravel, rock road, and uneven grass terrain.

I wouldn’t recommend it for rolling over big rocks just like I wouldn’t recommend a hand saw to cut down a redwood; that’s not what it’s made for. It is built well and will hold up during sensible use.

C tug cart is awesome. When I bought my kayak, I already had one but it didn’t fit well. I ordered the C Tug and my problems are gone. It fits the bottom of my kayak perfectly and I can get to and from the water much faster.

The strap that came with it is even wider and stronger that the first one. No second thoughts on this purchase. Will I buy from these guys again? You betcha.

I just needed a cart to hold up one end of a two person kayak while I trundle it around my driveway. This one handles that chore easily once it is properly secured, and it seems like it would handle some rougher terrain readily enough.

The price was the lowest I found. My cart arrived with “no flat” tires, a change that apparently addressed that concern (flat tires) in the reviews. The only difficulty, and it is not the fault of the cart, is getting it secured to the underside of the kayak as it sits in the bed of my pickup truck with bed extender.

Holding the cart beneath the kayak while installing the supplied strap is a three-handed job, and flopping the kayak upside down and back to get the cart strapped on is awkward. time consuming. can’t be helping the seat backs.

My recommendation for anyone wrestling with this or a related issue is to buy an inexpensive ratcheting strap. Assemble the strap, drape it over the kayak where you want the cart, with the hooks hanging down on both sides.

Set the cart on the ground underneath the kayak. Thread the end hooks through the undercarriage and around the axles of the cart. Lift the cart with one hand and pull the strap tight with the other. Once the cart is close to the kayak, tighten the ratchet, fine tuning cart position as you go.

With practice, you will soon either learn how make this work, or become an expert juggler. Note that when you strap the cart toward the rear of the kayak, the tendency is for the whole thing to slip toward the rear and for the cart to loosen.

I can’t set the cart in the middle of the kayak without pulling it most of the way out of the truck, and overbalancing the whole thing. I get around this by positioning the strap across the rear of the cockpit, which is less tapered and allows the strap to be looped though the webbing that supports the rear seat back.

This hold the whole assembly nicely in place.

BEWARE it will rust. Had it sit in a shed for 2 weeks, and it has already started the rust process on 2 bolts that hold the wheels on. Never direct water contact, only moisture from air. I’ll add that I bought this with snow on the ground, so nothing over 40% air moisture would have been possible.

Nothing better then CHINESIUM, the weakest, cheapest and least rust resistant metal on earth. For the price I’m happy, in 10 years when the bolts completely desinegrate to orange dust I’ll give a bad review.

: ) Till then, I’ll just say I’d recommend spraying a paint or primer over the wheel bolts before assembly. Know what your buying.
