20 Best Whiskey For Mixing (2022 Updated)

This is good old fashioned American whiskey. It tastes good, not to strong, straight up on ice or in a mixed drink. It’s not the second best selling whiskey in America for no reason. If you don’t like it you just don’t like American whiskey.

Just so you know, it is NOT Bourbon. Darn near every American farmer drinks this stuff, I’ve told you so, now stay told! Harley Davidson forever.

I honestly can’t recall when I started drinking Kessler but it’s been at least 25+ years and it has never changed nor disappointed. I know others are quite critical of “the cheap stuff” and I can tell you, I used to drink Bourbon Deluxe in my younger days at $4.

50 a fifth (when they were sold in “fifths”). that’s cheap stuff. But as for my taste Kessler is smooth and satisfying. Yeah, I’ve had many high-end whiskeys that my discriminating friends swear is the only whiskey they will allow to enter their system.

Fine, enjoy your high end stuff, I LOVE Kessler at $15/1. 75L. can’t beat it with a caveman’s club! But yeah, I do also drink other mid to higher end sippin’ whiskeys (single malt scotch/irish, Woodford, Bulleit, Col Taylor, Knob Creek) and other liquors (tequila, vodka, gin, grain/shine, etc), but for my daily shot or two, KESSLER is KING!!!.

Kessler really is as smooth as their slogan suggests. This is a blended whiskey, containing nearly three quarters neutral grain spirit, which means vodka. There is literally no difference between diluted neutral spirit and vodka.

Don’t write it off for this reason, though. It is still well worth trying, and blended whiskies can be as good as straight whiskies if done right. Kessler is lightly flavored due to the dilution and the predominant flavor is of a classic bourbon whiskey, but lighter and more easygoing.

If you like bourbon, but the flavor can be a bit strong for you, or if you are looking for a more lightly flavored substitute for bourbon, Kessler is your answer. It is easy to drink, tasty, and inexpensive, and can be drunk neat, on ice, or in a mixed drink This would also be an excellent choice for a newcomer wanting to try bourbon or whiskey in general.

It is very inoffensive and soft. I like Kessler but will probably stick to bourbon and single malt Scotch due to my preference of stronger flavors.

I love this whiskey but I do have some notes! It’s very drinkable straight, on the rocks, or as shots BUT it is very sweet for some people. If you are a true whiskey drinker (like to drink unflavored whiskey straight) this may not be for you! However, it’s definitely worth a drink if you like flavored alcohol and if you plan on mixing it with hot tea at the end of the night.

I do not like this at all! If you like the Jack Daniel’s honey, you probably won’t like this one. There’s definitely more honey flavour in this one but there’s something about the way the bourbon/whiskey tastes and I just can’t like it.

I don’t use a chase for the honey jack but absolutely have to have one for this stuff.

I bought this as a liqueur (I wasn’t expecting it to be high-quality bourbon), and to that end, it met expectations as a sweet and smooth drink. That said, I didn’t pick up any specific honey flavors, so much as it was just generically sweet.

I should note that I absolutely love the Jim Beam Vanilla, so my criticism here is limited to the overall flavor, and not the category of bourbon-based liqueurs in general (or Jim Beam more specifically).

This does come in a mini bottle, so if you’re not sure if it will be right for you, pick up one of those bottles for $2 and try it; I’d recommend a friend try it if they like this kind of liqueur simply because their tastes could differ from mine.

I doubt I’ll buy this again, but if someone offered me some, I wouldn’t turn it down. I will definitely be getting another bottle of the vanilla as soon as mine is done.

One of my favorite whiskey 🥃!!!! I either mis it with apple juice or cranberry juice. It’s amazing either way. I just love it!!!! I’ve been mixing these drink for a while now. Recommend this if you having tried them.

Masters is a lot better than your regular 12 year. You can tell the two apart right away. I will never by anything less than a Masters. Try it with some Minute Maid peach juice and your taste buds will be satisfied making you want MORE.

Great balanced blend. Thought it was just ok at first but it got better as the bottle went on. Light smokiness goes perfectly with the other flavors. Will definitely buy again.

I really, really wanted to like this bourbon. I actually noticed that it’s listed as blended whiskey and only one mention of bourbon in small print, so I’m not 100% it’s truly bourbon. Regardless, I was kind of excited when someone told me that it had a very unique profile.

I tried it, and indeed, it is unique. Most people are calling out the vanilla. I do taste that, but I taste something closer to pecan. I really can get on board with a sligtly sweeter whiskey, but this one approaches flavored whiskey.

The sweetness overpowers the rest of it. I’ve tried it in a Manhattan and an Old Fashioned, and the flavor just completely throws both cocktails off. I thought maybe the sweetness would work in a Manhattan, but it’s just way too sweet and the flavor doesn’t work with the bitters or the vermouth.

It overpowers both. Bottom line: If sipping sweet whiskey is your thing, you’ll love it. If you’re looking for something to make a cocktail out of, this probably isn’t for you. If you prefer a more full-bodied or spicy bourbon, you won’t find it here.

I love the TX Whiskey I purchased from you recently. However the $30 shipping fee for typical ground delivery (no type of express chosen) is extremely excessive and unwarranted. I received the bottle wrapped in bubble wrap in an ordinary box.

$30 to do that is ludicrous. You should display the estimated shipping costs when the customer selects the type of shipping. I didn’t see the cost until I completed my order. I ended up paying just about the same amount for shipping as the product itself.

Because if this, I will never purchase a product from you again.

This whiskey is very smooth with notes of vanilla. It really soothes the nerves after a long day. Must be sipped to fully appreciate the flavors which are somewhat sweet but not sweet at all. Its an oxymoron of its self in the most satisfying manner.

Very strong taste and aftertaste but very warm and tingly feeling all the way down. its not my absolute favorite but it’s in my top five. I would try to give a better aftertaste with the flavor. It definitely met my expectations but I did think it would probably be a bit stronger.

I would certainly buy again.

I don’t care who doesn’t agree with me on this review. This is the best I’ve had in my life. I bought 3 bottles and I don’t apologize for it if you didn’t get one. I am down to my last bottle and best believe no one is allowed to pour themselves.

This is a bottle you lock up and store away. It has the spicy rye and caramel finish of a perfectly timed barrel of whiskey. I loved this version so much I am afraid to taste the others for fear it will disappoint.

If you find this bottle just pick it up and don’t think about it.

I’ve spent tons on Texas whiskey, Balcones, Yellow Rose, Treaty Oak. bought them all and drank them and then some. BUT The one Texas whiskey I come back to time and time again Is Rebecca Creek. Or as I refer to it, The Becky.

It doesn’t matter how you want to drink it, neat, mixed, shots. it works and it works well. Don’t let the low price fool you, this is Fine Texas Whiskey, not swill.

Smooth. No harsh taste after a swig. So much better than that swill they make in other parts of the country. Tennessee I looking at you. But seriously a fine Texas whiskey you can enjoy and not have to shoot to get past the taste.

Two thumbs up definitely.

There is no way the juice in this bottle is only aged “greater than two years” as stated on the label. It’s complex and distinctive. The nose is sweet with caramel, toffee, butterscotch and a hint of ethanol.

The palette is creamy with an amazing mouth feel, rich, sweet with raisins, caramel chews, and some salty/peppery notes all combine with the presence of malt. The finish is where the allspice or cinnamon kicks in but gets taken by the sweetness.

A light pepper note lingers on the backend. Medium length but enjoyable finish. Amazing stuff considering I don’t prefer malted bourbon but gave this a chance and I’m glad I did! Will always have a bottle in my bar!!.

Sam, Will, Emma, and Ethan were crazy awesome. These are the nicest people giving you the most informative tour of the Bourbon distilling process. I am visiting from Florida and this is the absolute highlight of my vacation so far.

This is a MUST visit when in Chattanooga. My wife and I loved it, and we aren’t even big drinkers. The history, science, and artistry of the presentation were really fascinating.

I enjoy this bourbon as a change of pace. It is definitely different than many of the other bourbons I own and drink regularly. I feel like it almost tastes lightly port finished as it has a lot of fruity sweetness.

The high proof helps to balance that out a bit. I think if you are looking for something a bit different or like your bourbon sweet I would definitely buy. I am going to purchase a second bottle as I think it is worth having in your bar.

Considering the price of many “craft” bourbons I think this one is priced right as well.

If you like yur whisky with that little something extra then this may be what you are looking for. I like the sweetness imparted to a good malt when matured in sherry casks, but this is quite dfferent.

Rather than the normal sweetness you find in those malts, this has a much fruitier sweetness, hints of tropical fruits but also citrus & vanilla & not really any strong rum taste. A smooth well rounded malt which is different from most others & I love it, my wife who is not a whisky drinker as a rule tells me it is very nice with a splash of ginger beer.

Well I have to say I am not a fan of the um, fruity, tropical colors on the packaging (OK, I hate it), this scotch is easily poured into a decanter, so that’s where my criticisms end. This is one of my favorite single malts ever.

which is ironic, considering it’s one of their least expensive. It has a lot of the charm of the original green-bottled The Glenlivet 12, which I sorely miss (I find it insane that it’s no longer made) No smokey or peaty notes to ruin the finish for me.

I much prefer this over the founders reserve and the 12 year American Oak expressions. I know this may be sacrilege, but I even prefer this Caribbean cask version over the 18 year. The Nadurra first fill version is the only expression in the lineup that I’d take over the Caribbean cask, if price were no object.

Being from Trinidad and being versed in rum, I was curious to try this. Growing up, my dad’s favorite drink was Scotch with fresh coconut water. Yesterday was new years day and told my dad I had something for him to try.

The look on his face said it all. At 84 years old, he said that’s the best Scotch and coconut water he’d ever tasted. Kudos to Glenlivet.

Its fine, but I do not love it at its price point. Decent nose, balance flavor profile and finish, but ultimately nothing special. Expected more complexity due to the bourbon/rye blend. Feels and drinks like most any whiskey in the $30 range for me.

Worth a try if you can, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

One of my favorite bourbons! I could sip this all day! 9. 4/10 by far one of my favorites! If I don’t have more then two bottles I panic. Very happy with this bourbon with a great price this $36-$40 dollar range could easily hang with some of the $80-$95 dollar range bourbons.

For the price point this is a great pour! I have very nice collection back home and pick this up while I was traveling. Carmel, vanilla amd a subtle rye spice. I would definitely buy this again!

I am very much into aged rum. Drinking this made me feel angry and spending $30 on it, but then ok with it since it’s a whiskey with a dash of what seems like rum. It is smoother than many other whiskey so out there, so I give it credit for being a good price range and smoother than other whiskey.

I think Belvine 14 year whiskey rum cask is the best in this category. I am for the most part ok with it and would drink it neat again.

This is a great light summer scotch. I drink it on ice. Way too easy to drink. It’s not as robust in scotchiness as a lot of my other favorites, but it reminds me of the days when drinking sweet rum based drinks was still cool.

Goes with all types of food, ice cream, dessert and candy. Again, making it drink too easy. It’s not the smoky, peaty heavy stuff that this makes me miss—but it’s good enough that I start to miss this when I go with the more traditional single malts.

I’ve come to love this one. A nice banana nose (like a nice old grandfather). The taste is familiar and new. It’s scotch that doesn’t actually say scotch. Smooth and not as fruity as one might think.

Just enough rum cask infusion to make it smooth and lovely. A new favorite of mine.

I loved this Scotch; however, there was almost no finish here (the one downside to what could be a absolute astounding Scotch). I love the dark fruits and candied cherry and butterscotch cream. But that lackluster finish.

Now, if you mix this Aberlour 12 with a Glenmorangie Lasanta then you find a Perfect Match and Complementary mixture. I found 4 parts Aberlour to 1 part Glenmorangie Lasanta creates the fruit forward and lushness on the front & final palate so longed fo.

The marriage creates a much longer and aromatic finish by the additon of the normally acidic and astringent Glenmorangie. As anyone knows, the Aberlour is very good on the nose and front palate, but has almost no finish – it just disappears.

But marry the 2 and what an amazing self-blended Scotch.

3 stars doesn’t mean it’s bad, just that it lacks the complexity and depth of more expensive scotches. If you are a bourbon drinker looking to get into scotch this is a good starting point that won’t break the bank.

It’s a smooth, sweet, easy drinking scotch. It has virtually no smoke or peat, sweet fruit type flavors dominate. Not a long or complex finish. Compares to Dalmore 12 or The Macallan double cask but not as refined.

For the price, it’s fine as an every day scotch and the price is why you might choose this over another label. Compared to A’bunadh it lacks depth, complexity and a long finish but it’s almost half the price so what do you expect? If you want the best of Aberlour’s offerings, try one of their other (more expensive) bottles.

Good for someone who isn’t ready for a deeper dive into the more acquired tastes of higher end scotches.

I haven’t had the chance to drink this specific order yet. This is however my favorite Scotch, it has a nice mellow flavor. This order won’t get started until I get back to IN in a couple of years. I ordered this 10 days before I came up to IN and was back in NC before it came in.

I was told someone would call me when it came in but no one did. I only found out by checking the store’s web site. Lousy customer service.

I got into scotch due to a friends interest and due to a great documentary I watched on NF. This was a fairly sweet one which is what I was looking for. But what I am realizing is that I really do not like scotch.

I am and always will be a foofy cocktail girl who also loves a fine port. But even given that, the way this scotch is sweet to the taste but heats up the chest with warmth is amazing. It will be an excellent winter tipple to use as a toddy and to warm the cockles of my heart.

This is one of my very favorite scotches. Medium body, not too smoky, wonderful complexity of flavor, and lingers on the palate. I’ve compared it with some that are over $100 a bottle, and I’m perfectly happy staying with this one and enjoying it regularly!.
