20 Best White Gaming Monitor (2022 Updated)

Let me preface this review by saying that it is almost impossible to find a monitor with a high refresh rate (120+) that also doesn’t have that ‘gamer aesthetic’ look. You know, the black matte with glossy red or the RGB lights and faux-wiring imprints.

I do play video games from time to time, but I also use my desktop around my family and friends. It would just be nice to have a quality computer monitor that doesn’t scream ‘edgelord’ to the world. That being said, this monitor is the one.

144 Hz, FHD, 1ms response time, Freesync Premium – I assume you’ve read the specs because they’re pretty good. In my opinion, 1080p is the sweet spot for pixels per inch at 24 inches. The brightness is plenty bright for my use next to a window.

Color contrast is much better than my old TN monitor. The refresh rate is amazing, just buttery smooth. Height, tilt, and swivel adjustments are easy, and the monitor itself is solid. Did I mention that I like the aesthetic, too? Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about this monitor.

It does exactly as described for a reasonable price. If you do decide to pick it up, make sure to download the drivers (instructions come in box). ViewSonic is still making top-notch products after 20+ years.

Out of the box, this monitor is good. After some settings tweaks, it’s amazing. I use it mostly for gaming and thought I’d make a review to maybe help others get the most of this awesome panel. 1. Make sure you have Windows set to 144 Hz framerate, otherwise you’ll still be looking at 60 fps tops.

Here are my settings now, although I’m still tweaking them: Game Mode tab -> Standard Mode -> Dark boost level 1, adaptive contrast off, blue light filter 0/100, response time OD ultra fast Display tab -> overclocking native, contrast 75/100, brightness (varies depending on time of day), saturation 105/200, 6 axis color (red 105/225, green 127/225, blue 127/125, cyan 127/225, magenta 105/225, yellow 115/225), color temperature native, input range full, gamma 2.

This is a great monitor at a great price, but be advised that if you plug either of the monitor’s ports (HDMI and DisplayPort) into a DisplayPort port on your video adapter, the computer will not sense the monitor’s presence when the monitor is off.

This can lead to problems with remote access apps like Splashtop, which rely on the computer sensing attached monitors even when the monitors are off. It can also lead to your windows and Desktop icons getting rearranged if your monitors go to sleep.

Something to keep in mind. From now on, I’m making sure any monitors I purchase have DVI ports since most of our video adapters have only DisplayPort ports.

There are few certainties in technology. Fortunately for PC monitors bigger, better, higher resolution, faster response time, all while getting cheaper is one of them. Our tech dollars have never stretched as far as they do today.

This X32 HP monitor is in a word, **Awesome** , with near top of the line specs, latest and greatest display technology, wide-viewing angle (IPS panel so no hot spotting like direct view panels), big, bright, and colorful.

This X32 monitor is a perfect match, Forza Horizon 5 (and FH4), and MSFS Flight Simulator offer silky smooth refresh rates with no screen tearing, plus bright and vibrant colors, what’s not to love? While some other monitors offer high pixel density at full 4k resolution, glossy bells and whistles, inky OLED blacks, more inputs, and/or speakers (usually mediocre), they also carry accompanying price tags far more than the budget priced HP X32 that maximizes “bang-for-the-buck”.

I like how this monitor looks, and the thin bezel around the edge with no logos is great. However, there are a couple issues that drive me crazy and make me regret my purchase: 1. There is no way to disable the flashing of the LED light ring on the back of the monitor, which flashes at full brightness EVERY time the monitor is turned on or receives a new video signal, even if the light setting is set to off.

It’s super annoying. 2. This monitor does not support DisplayPort / HDMI Deep Sleep mode. This feature was advertised in the user manual, but did not appear in the on screen menu. When I contacted LG support, they republished the user manual removing the mention of this feature, and then denied that they ever change their user manuals, even though the last updated date on their website had changed.

3. The combination of the above issues means that when connected to my Razer Blade 15″ Advanced gaming laptop, the monitor wakes up every 2-3 minutes, even though the laptop is not outputting a video signal because the laptop is not in use and the display has been turned off by the OS.

When this happens, the LG monitor flashes the light ring at full brightness, searches for a video signal, can’t find one, and goes back to low power mode. This also causes a mysterious USB device in the monitor to be detected by Windows and then disconnect again, which causes USB connect/disconnect sound alerts.

These annoying sounds and obnoxiously bright light shows repeats every 2-3 minutes all night ad nauseum if I ever forget to turn off the monitor before I go to bed. I contacted LG support multiple times, and they have been unable to do anything to resolve any of these issues.

For the price I paid, I would expect this monitor to “just work” and not have these crazymaking quality of life issues that drive me bonkers. I want to love it, but I can’t without these issues being fixed.

It took me at least 3 months to decide on a monitor that would have all the features I wanted! Top 2 features: 4k and high refresh rates: PS5 confirmed 4k @ 120hz – HDMI Macbook Pro (M1 Pro) confirmed 4k @ 144hz – Display Port Windows PC confirmed 4k @ 60hz (non-gaming laptop) – HDMI The 27GP950-B was the all-in-one solution for my gaming, video/photo editing, and my 9 to 5 job.

The colors on the monitor looks great for my Macbook Pro. I was finally able to unlock the visual potential of my PS5. I thought the scaling on a 4k screen would be too small or awkward for my work but it turns out I no longer need a second monitor due to all the desktop space with the 4k resolution.

The settings menu is a little tedious to navigate for selecting inputs and changing other settings, but it’s not a big deal. It was my fault for assuming the signal input would automatically select an input.

If this feature is available then I haven’t done enough homework for this monitor. This model was probably not ideal for editing but it takes care of my other needs for multiple devices. It would have been very nice to have USB-C as an input option for video.

The price was on the higher side but it beats purchasing a TV with HDMI 2. 1 for my PS5 PLUS a compatible 4k 144hz monitor for my macbook pro. I had a lot to consider when I was weighing out the pros and cons comparing different options.

I bought this monitor in June and have had nothing but problems with it. 1. It doesn’t auto detect your display port version, you have to set it on the monitor to match your GPU, not the end of the world, but when you go into Windows and notice that its not getting the correct resolutions or refresh rates and can’t figure out why right away.

It’s annoying. Also, swapping the monitors Display Port version when your PC is on. crashes your machine. 2. There’s no normal standby mode. When your PC goes to screen saver mode, usually your screens will enter standby after a short time and upon resume, everything is as you left it.

Not with this screen. It seems to disconnect and all your windows shift over to your decent screen. Very annoying. 3. I’ve also had an issue with “cold booting” the screen and having a split/tear down the middle of the screen.

4. I’ve also had the black screen issue. The monitor has been back to LG for repairs, this took over a month and the issue was not resolved. I’d avoid buying this screen completely, especially for the price it is.

I’ve had nothing but issues. LG customer support via social media or webform/email is totally useless. If you have issues, PHONE THEM or you get nowhere at all. At this point, i want to return the screen in full and get something else.

If it worked as advertised and had some BASIC user features that most monitors have been doing for years. this would be an amazing product. as it stands, its not fit for purpose.

This is my first ultrawide monitor, and I gotta say, I love it. The amount of screen real estate you get compared to a normal 16:9 monitor is insane and multitasking has never been easier. I personally don’t mind the VA panel, although the photographer or video editor out there may want to look elsewhere for an IPS panel.

Gameplay is smooth thanks to the 144hz refresh rate of the monitor, and fortunately my RTX 3070 can push out enough frames to take full advantage of it. Since the monitor is both 2K resolution and ultrawide, make sure your GPU can handle this kind of output before buying.

Otherwise you’ll be missing out on part of the gaming experience the monitor has to offer. The overall build quality is quite good, and the monitor feels sturdy. I am not using a separate mount, although the monitor is VESA compatible.

The power button also serves as the menu controls, which takes a bit of getting used to. I do think the “D-Pad” design that Lenovo used for the controls is not particularly intuitive, although I can look past that.

I bought this monitor when it was heavily discounted, and it was worth every penny. For regular price though, I would probably knock down one more star considering there are more competitive options in this price range.

Overall, this is a great monitor that had no QA issues on arrival and has served me well for the past month I’ve used it. I will update the review (if possible), in the scenario anything out of the ordinary happens.

I had to get a replacement out of the starting block. The toggle switch was not working. The Lenovo team was helpful and quick to provide a replacement and pick up the old one. I got this on sale 475 cdn and for the price its pretty good.

Got it for productivty and gaming given the 144hz feature. Coming from an LG IPS 60 Hz, yes, IPS is nice and a built in app to switch monitor settings with LG was very, very helpful. For the Lenovo the colours look to be nice and you features in the menu setting you can play around with.

I do with there was an app that allowed you to navigate with your mouse to change the settings instead of having to do it manually. LG has conections at the back of the monitor and had 2 x DP and 2 x HDMI which was super convienent.

For the Lenovo you get 1 x DP and 1 x HDMI. I am ok to switch out only thing is that the connections are below the monitor whic makes for a painful experience. Other wise its a decent monitor for the price point.

Plug in your speaker and your off. I wish it had a picture in picture (PIP) and picture by picture (PBP) feature. Overall its alright for the price in comparsion to what is out there its a decent buy.

Just amazing. Its at a really good price, the quality is extraordinary. Honestly nothing to say that is negative about it. If you can afford it, the quality price is as good as it gets. Keep in mind, depending on the types of games you play you might want to consider something else, so for example games like skyrim, eso.

it would work, but games like dying light, dark souls, elden ring. who do no support it gets annoying as not all the screen is used and can be an eyesore (unless you mod, but again online games ban modding sometimes).

So for gaming just make sure of the games you play.

I startede with one Monitor to see if is as good as describe. I got 4 now in my office. I have recommended it t 4 other people and they all call me up and said it ia an amassing monitor. The price is a little high but you get value for your money.

It is an exceptional resolution monitor for the price. Looks great! I use it for both work (multiple screens – often 3 across) as well as videos. I like eye fatigue relief due to its size provides and energy-saving mode when I step away.

Good assortment of click-through pre-set modes. Expect to use its capabilities for many years to come. Still need to get grandson’s take on its gaming visuals (when I let him get it away from me). I’m afraid he won’t be able to let go of it(:

I would recommend this awesome display to anyone who is still using an older display. This is plenty wide for most desks, and you can still expand with the older monitors you may have lying around. Take a look at one of your old square monitors and imagine going back to using that now; that is what it feels like to use an ultrawide (definitely no going back!!!) I should have made the switch to an ultrawide curved monitor a long time ago, this is a gamechanger!!!!.

My original plan was to get two monitors but due to the lack of video outputs on my laptop I decided to go with this ultra wide monitor. I also searched for the competition but I couldnt find anything that would come close to the price/features that this unit offers.

I dont use it for gaming but for work instead. I was glad to see that the text was sharp as Ill be doing a lot reading and working on spreadsheets. I did have to turn the brightness down some for some eye love.

I would definitely recommend it.

Quality and price wise theres nothing better than this. I ordered 24 of those monitors and they are all spotless. No dead pixels or anything. Im using these in 3 configuration setup and I had to buy extra cables because our computer doesnt have 3 hdmi.

Having two ports 1 hdmi and 1 display port wouldve been fantastic but I managed to make it Work.

I picked this monitor as it’s the perfect size for the workday, and for the stand, which is much heavier than I expected but has built-in tilt and height adjustment – making your workstation more adjustable even without a standing desk.

It’s a good monitor – does what it says in the description. The instructions to put it together were minimal. The height adjustment only works once it has the weight of the monitor on the stand. If you want a height adjustable monitor and can problem solve your own assembly, you’ll be quite happy with this one.

i bought a samsung monitor and have had nothing but problems with it since i bought it. i sent it in for warranty inspection before i left town back in december 2021, but left for work internationally soon after.

i’ve finally came back to this monitor in the us and it is still having issues. it appears to be a problem with the hdmi port in the back of the monitor, as if i wiggle the hdmi cable enough it will eventually make a solid connection.

all in all i won’t be buying samsung products any longer, this has been too much hassle.

I received my monitor yesterday and installed it yesterday. The packaging was excellent. Easy to open, remove and setup. No tools are needed. I connected it to my Desktop PC with no issues at all. It worked almost immediately after I used the setting for HDMI versus analog.

The settings are all on the rear of the monitor by using a “jog” button that works well. The menu is pretty easy to use also. I went to some discovery channel videos and personal photos and it was as expected if not a little better onscreen.

I bought this for the price, curve, brand and anticipation of a new system I am about to build and looks like I made the right decision. Now the reason for only 4 not 5 stars. I was not able to fill in the screen completely.

I reviewed some forums and YouTube videos and it looked pretty easy to solve but of course it wasn’t. I couldn’t find the same menus, etc. So I used “chat” with Samsung. It was easy to use and pretty quick.

The Sam’s model is not recognized by Samsung tech support. They kept sending me the wrong manual and thought i was typing in the wrong model number. The menu to fill in the screen is not there. Not “fit to screen” at all on this unit.

So in my case, i could not use the optimum 1080 resolution. I lowered the resolution slightly to 1660 X 1050 and it filled in nicely. Its not the optimum level i wanted but as i mentioned, i’m building a new PC and believe the updated Graphics card will fix it.

By the way, I was unable to install the Catalyst Control Center which may have been able to fix this problem as i have a Windows 10 machine and my Graphics card is older. So, overall I recommend this display but it might require a newer graphics card.

– First and foremost, this monitor is VA, not IPS. VA technology is somewhere in the middle between really outdated TN and a newer more colorful IPS. Therefore, this monitor looks slightly washed out compared to IPS monitors – White frame looks great.

I totally love it. – Connection with HDMI cable was easy. Make sure you buy one, since it does not come in the box. – Picture quality is generally very good. Curve adds extra volume. – As someone else had pointed out, game mode and “fastest” response rate mode make this monitor unusable: it does really bad ghosting, especially while scrolling web pages.

All things considered, I think non-curved 27″ Samsung that Sam’s Club has in stores is a better deal, it has a better image quality and does not produce as much ghosting.

There is a lot I can say in regards to this monitor, personally for me though, I am surprised at how this monitor is ready to go straight out of the box, minimal calibration to be had. WQHD is definitely a huge improvement over other products in the same category, I have an LG and that monitor pales in comparison to this ASUS Strix.

Gotta say, the fact that this is a Gundam Licensed product makes it much sweeter of a deal. I highly recommend, running in conjunction with an Intel i7-9700k/ 2070 Super. Do yourself a favor and pick this bad boy up!.

This is the first ROG gaming monitor comes with white finish. This monitor stands out with the gundam theme colour. Two areas I personally think could make it better are stand lighting effect and the resolution.

If Asus could make the lighting comes from the stand as a RX-78-2 icon or the E. F. S. F logo it would be fantastic. 2K 170hz is still good, but I wish it could be 4K 144hz.

I’ve used this monitor for about 3 weeks now and have loved every minute of it. Games are smoother and more clearer, coming from a 32inch curved 1080p monitor, this has vastly outperformed & improved my gaming experience.

Highly recommend & it’s Gundam like c’mon!.

It’s big and it’s nicely curved 4k. That’s the good. Now for the bad. When I play movies on a mac, there’s an occasional flicker. Not enough to make it unwatchable, but enough to make this screen unsuitable for something like a TV replacement or home theatre.

The second bad is that you can see the grainy lines when looking up close, which you sometimes have to when looking close at something. It’s obvious compared with a 27 iMac Retina screen, where you can sit as close as you want to the screen.

To fix this, you can either sit further back and squint, or lower the resolution, and sit back. I prefer to lower the resolution slightly and sit back. The 3rd thing, and it’s more of a nitpick, is that there is no built in audio.

Well, sort-of. The hdmi signal gets audio to the monitor and there is an audio out from the monitor which you can send to an amplifier or amplified speakers, or headphones. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of.

The 4th thing which is not really a nitpick, but something to be aware of is that this thing is big. So much so that I decided not to use it as 2nd monitor for my iMac, since it consumes so much space.

I tried to use it with Mac-Mini w/M1 chip, but something didn’t click. Maybe higher expectations coming from my 27 iMac. Here what I liked: design, curved (interesting immersive feeling, easy on eyes), great built quality (Made in Vietnam), well thought cable management, goo video, pics quality produced.

Things I didn’t like: when connecting with mac mini Thunderbolt to DisplayPort – only 1 cable worked out of 3 (LG monitor worked all 3), the Mac OS system fonts looks kind of smugged (not as sharp and clear as on iMac), not adjustable monitor height (only vertical angle can be adjusted), no audio speakers.

4K resolution will make everything small. If you use HDMI cable you would have either 4K or 2K or lower to adjust. Suggest to use DisplayPort and you will be able to use between 4K and 2K. Great balance for visibility and clarity.

But, Samsung is very picky on USB-C to DisplayPort cables. I bought LG 32UN650-w which not curved and close to Mac. Samsung not real 10 bit video. It’s 8 bit + FRC (Frame Rate Correction).

I picked this monitor up about a year ago. It does all the standard stuff well. looking at web pages and undynamic screens. But when I connected it to my M1 Mac mini (actually the reason I purchased the screen) I found that the monitor will not play 4K video back properly.

The dark areas of a scene flicker, if the screen is mostly dark vertical lines will appear on the display, lots of strobing when scenes transfer from dark to light. Now, this may not be a problem for you, but I edit photos and video.

so this is a 600 dollar bummer. Read the reviews and don’t just jump out and buy this monitor because Samsung put it on sale. You will be disapointed. I am And Samsung. I am chatting with your tech support.

Turning it off and on, changing the wall outlet, resetting the display. it’s not going to help. You are going to need to rewrite the drivers for this thing. Don’t get me wrong, this thing is beautiful.

But it won’t work with apple’s M1’s. Maybe they don’t work at all with Apple silicone. Mine doesn’t. Check the internet.

Right out of the box, this monitor looks fantastic. I have been using computer monitors since the early ’80s spanning many brands, form factors, panel types, resolutions, intended use cases, etc. The Samsung Odyssey G5 (S27AG500PN) stands out as one of the best display options that I have experienced, especially if you have an interest in gaming.

The Odyssey G5 sports a laundry list of premium features including HDR support, 2560×1440 resolution, Nvidia G-SYNC, AMD FreeSync, 1-millisecond response time, DisplayPort 1. 2 support, as well as 165/144hz refresh rate (DisplayPort/HDMI).

This is an excellent monitor for those searching for premium performance from an accessible price point. Regarding the performance of the monitor, I have tested it in three circumstances: gaming, media-viewing, and productivity.

On the gaming front, I was impressed. The monitor provides a crisp display and vibrant colors while maintaining a lightning-fast response time and framerate, provided you have the hardware required to drive games at this resolution and framerate.

Given the fact that this is an IPS panel, it is understandable that it would not be capable of producing the insane contrast provided by the likes of OLED/QLED panels, but I found that the black-balance and viewing angles of the monitor left a little to be desired.

On this point, I would recommend against using this monitor if you consistently have sunlight shining directly on your setup, as it does succumb to some glare in the presence of exceedingly bright light.

However, for myself, and I’m assuming many others, this does not pose much of a downside. Regarding media-viewing, the minor image-quality issues outlined above persist, however, I feel that it is worth noting that this criticism only holds up when comparing the monitor to OLED/QLED panels.

Speaking strictly in terms of IPS panel performance, this monitor offers a very pleasing image; and if all this talk of OLEDs, QLEDs, light balancing, and panels sounds confusing, you likely won’t take any issue with the monitor whatsoever.

Getting back to the performance, I was impressed with the vibrance and clarity of the image, especially when viewing HDR supported content. On the topic of productivity, I found that the Eye-Saver mode made for a much more comfortable user experience in the realm of bright, white, high-contrast user interfaces often found in business applications such as the Office 365 Suite.

Regarding the physical attributes of the monitor, the stand provides a sturdy stature and a small footprint while allowing for a range of ergonomic adjustments in height, tilt, and rotation. Additionally, the stand includes a small strap near the base which helps quite a bit with cable management.

Visually speaking, the monitor gently straddles the line between ‘professional monitor’ and ‘premium gaming apparatus. ’ There are no RGB accent lighting features, but the small Nvidia G-SYNC insignia as well as the finishing pattern on the rear of the monitor subtly indicate the horsepower hiding under the hood.

Overall, I believe that this is an outstanding monitor and provides excellent performance in gaming, media-viewing, and productivity. I would recommend the Odyssey G5 to anyone looking for a premium performance package.

I’ll begin with the pros. I like the styling, build quality and gaming performance of this Samsung G5 monitor. The pros include solid constructed and ease of use features that include a wide screen that slides vertically on the stand, swivels right to left and rotates 90-degrees.

It also has built-in cable management, intuitive controls, and a small desktop footprint for the base. Gaming performance is good with snappy fast response and no noticeable ghosting or lag. Fast paced racing games like Forza Horizon 5 have smooth, clean, fluid motion when played through my G-SYNC enabled Nvidia RTX card.

Even when driving past scenery at over 300 mph in Forza H5, textures and graphics render quick and cleanly. Desktop performance is equally well with no lag whatsoever when opening, minimizing or maximizing files and windows.

Spreadsheets and documents have good sharpness with no jaggies on the edges. Gaming and desktop performance are nicely balanced for mixed use systems. The matte screen is excellent for avoiding harsh reflections and glare from nearby users, windows, and bright light sources.

Color and brightness seemed a little lacking out of the box but I was able to quickly adjust the display to a satisfying level without using a screen calibration tool. A panel that started out somewhat dim with washed out colors now has good brightness, popping colors and rich saturation.

HDR looks good when enabled and although it does improve graphical quality of most games, it is not quite as stunning a difference as my primary gaming monitor. The G5’s viewing angles are also somewhat shallow which results in a shimmering effect with even slight shifts off center.

The effect is more noticeable in darker gaming environments. There is also noticeable light bleed along the lower left side of the screen. Like the shimmering effect, the light bleed is most noticeable on dark backgrounds and in darker environments.

This display utilizes a proprietary power cord and brick that is far less convenient than the universally swappable standard three prong monitor power cord. If a pet chews this cord or some other mishap strikes, get ready to shell out bucks for another cord and power brick versus grabbing a spare 3-prong off an old monitor or desktop PC or for a few bucks online.

Overall, the G5 is a decent gaming and desktop monitor. It has good brightness and saturation, albeit after some fine tuning. Gaming and desktop performance are also both quite good. The screen orientation and position can be adjusted in just about any manner desired and the controls are actually asy to use, which isn’t typically the case with monitors.

On the downside, he G5 does have some noticeable light bleed, narrow viewing angles, and a proprietary power cord. It’s not perfect but still pretty good. Solid four out of five.

Cons: Poor quality Assurance for a $3000 product, mine had 2 patches of dead/stuck pixels, 5 in one spot and 3 in another spot. Has some sort of horizontal scanline issue on certain colors where 1 row of horizontal pixels produce slightly lighter color.

Peak brightness does not hit advertised 2000cd/m2 in HDR in both modes and sustained peak brightness is quite low even in small windows. This is more like a HDR800 monitor, sometimes 1000 and not even 1400, let alone 2000.

My local dimming setting in the OSD keeps resetting to “off” everytime i shutdown my pc and turn it back on or when i turn off the monitor and turn it back on. I have to manually set it to “high” every day.

poor firmware control for a very important feature. HDR doesnt work properly in some content and is washed out and really bad and worse than sdr. DCI-p3 coverage doesnt hit the advertised 95%, my $600 LG monitor had 98% and could hit over 100% The 1000R curve is still not great because of the 49 inch size VA panel the colors on the left and right sides are a bit off when i turn my head.

I think this panel is not true 10bit ? as i can see some banding on 10bit images/content. Not many options for refresh rates. For example i cannot select , say 100hz or 144hz or 165hz or 185hz refresh rates with Display port 1.

4, poor firmware. i can only select 60hz, 120hz and 240hz. but i want to use 144hz. Pros: Monitor has Super good Black levels, almost close to OLED and its impressive. blooming with local dimming is not noticeable.

HDR is ok when it works. very fast response and no smearing for a VA panel.

How on earth Samsung thinks it is ok to release such a half baked product is beyond me, especially when the G9 received all the same criticisms. They literally did not fix a single actual complaint and instead focussed on improving the dimming zones, which is the only impressive thing about this monitor ON PAPER.

In real life the dimming zones mean absolutely nothing because of the poor implementation. HDR is broken to the point where you will never get to experience anything close to the 2000 Nits of peak brightness.

And in SDR the tone mapping is horrendous unless you simply turn the FALD backlight off. There are horizontal scsnlines across the screen when using 240hz AND 120hz. HDMI at 144hz and 8 bit colour seems to be the only setting that doesn’t show these.

The monitor constantly pops and cracks as it heats up. There is 1cm horizontal banding on any grey background. Sources constantly disconnect and reconnect (especially HDR) VRR control mode (setting designed to stop flickering in VRR) turns itself off EVERY TIME YOU TURN OF THE MONITOR.

I can’t begin to explain how frustrating this is. Utterly unacceptable even for a first release of a product like this, AND THIS IS SAMSUNGS SECOND TRY! How they can in good conscience ask people to pay $3000 AUD to be a beta tester for a half baked product is beyond me.

They don’t even seem interested in fixing the issues.

Purchased the G9 Neo the 1st week it was released and apart from a couple of firmware issues which Samsung has addressed over 2 upgrades now this monitor is brillian and cant praise it enough. The latest firmware combined with Windows 11 the HDR absolutely pops and running G-sync have had no frame tear issues.

Using it on a sim rig with the monitor 800mm from the eye it is totally immersive and you forget that the rest of the room exists (AC, ACC, iRacing, F1 2021). Using a PS5 through HDMI the HDR gets even better and the monitor downsamples the PS5 4k output back to 1440p so smoothly you would never know.

(Note running a PS5 in the centre of the screen at 16. 9 you obviously are not using the outside 1/4 of the screen on each side) Well worth it for PC gaming but if you are thinking of only using it for console then you need a G7 instead.

The only thing I wish it had was a remote control but once set up properly you dont need to touch the display controls much anyway.

The LG UltraGear 24GQ50F-B has exceeded all expectations I had when purchasing this monitor! I thought it would be the perfect intro gaming monitor- and I was right, but it has proven to be much more! The HD 1920×1080 display is perfect for gaming and consuming media.

The picture quality is crisp and bright, with a surprisingly sharp image quality. The 24 inch display size is perfect! I was worried that it would be small but it definitely is not. It is perfect to use for your at home office or gaming room.

It would also be perfect for buying two so you could have dual monitors! The 165 Hz refresh rate along with the 1 ms MBR keeps frames on any game seemless and smooth. It can be challenging to know which product to buy when starting a gaming setup as there are so many on the market.

It is especially hard when you are on a budget! The LG UltaGear 24GQ50F-B gaming monitor makes everything easy as it is the ultimate budget friendly complete gamer package. It will not disappoint!.

I really put this monitor to the test. I connected it to gaming PC, XBOX S, PS5, and even connected it to my satellite tv. Picture quality for regular TV was 72OP quality. Picture looked crisp. On PC, the experience was exactly what you need for next generation gaming.

This monitor is 165hz and that refresh rate makes a huge difference in avoiding any lag you might get when gaming online. My son hooked it up to his PS5. He had a 60Hz monitor and oftentimes blamed the internet connection on lag issues.

What a a difference this monitor made for his gaming online. It’s been about a week now, and I haven’t heard a single complaint about slow internet speed. There is only two ports to connect your devices.

I would have loved another HDMI port. It has a DPI port and an HDMI. I had to purchase a DPI to HDMI cable to connect more than one device at a time that uses HDMI. Probably a standard connection for a gaming monitor that is normally connected to a PC.

I would have loved another HDMI port. This monitor is a great value and games look amaxing on it. It’s my second LG gaming monitor. They make high quality, yet affordable gaming monitors. I would definitely recommend this monitor for anyone looking to take your game to the next level!.

The picture quality looks great to my eyes, even off axis. The UI with its joystick is reasonably snappy, most of the time, strangely better than the LG 32UN880. I like the way the ports are on the back rather than on the bottom.

I did have compatibility problems: It works fine with my main work laptop (which is quite old) but I could not get HDMI to work with my home build gaming desktop with it’s Radeon RX 6700 XT. The display port connection worked OK though.

Likewise with a newer laptop thunderbolt worked fine but HDMI only worked at 30Hz. The LG 32UL750 was a replacement for a LG 32UG89 which has no compatibility issues at all. I was using the HDMI cable supplied with the unit.

On one occasion the speakers stopped working and I had to do a factory reset to get them back (no it was not muted). The audio quality is not as good as the LG 32UG89 or LG 32UN880.

Obviously this isn’t the ultimate 27″ display for gaming (it’s not 1440p), but you’re getting a lot for your money here. I use this as a 2nd monitor, and my primary/work display is a 27″ IPS. Although text looks better on my IPS monitor, I can still use the XG2701 for work when I need the extra space.

Gaming and video playback are both a delight on the XG2701. The menu controls really are terrible, and it affects your first impression of the monitor because you spend a lot of time messing with the settings at first.

However, after you finish the setup you shouldn’t have much cause to use the menus, so it’s not really a big deal. Don’t not buy this monitor because of this. The stand is the best I’ve ever had on an LCD display, and it’s really easy to install it by yourself.

I just laid the display down on my bed (panel facing up obviously), and installing the stand took about 1 minute (no tools required). You can easily easily tilt the display, adjust the height, and even rotate the display for portrait mode.

I probably won’t use portrait mode myself but it’s cool that it’s supported. I particularly appreciated the height adjustment because I could set the height of this display to exactly the same as my other 27″ monitor.

Also the display is firmly supported by the stand, so it doesn’t wobble as I’m typing like the flimsy stand on my other monitor. I love my other monitor but it has a cheap stand. FreeSync is a great feature which I hope will become standard on all displays including TVs (consoles AND NVIDIA should support it too).

It doesn’t add much cost and it does the job well enough. FreeSync on this particular display will only help if the frame rate is somewhere in the 48Hz-144Hz range. The 48Hz lower limit is a weak point, as you can find monitors with a 30Hz lower limit.

However, I don’t consider this a real problem because you don’t want your frame rate dipping below 48 fps anyway (turn down in-game graphics settings as needed). If you can keep frame rate above 80 most of the time, you’ll be really happy (and obviously it takes less GPU power to do that at 1080p vs 1440p).

Also limit the frame rate of the game to 142 fps (just to make sure it stays under 144). You can impose a system-wide limit on frame rate but I haven’t looked into that yet. You also have to enable DP 1.

2 and FreeSync in the monitor settings. For the response time setting, “advanced” is what most people use because it’s decently fast and doesn’t seem to have a noticeable downside compared to “standard”.

“ultra fast” provides a noticeable improvement in games, but you’ll see some ghosting when scrolling a web page for example. So far I’ve decided to just leave it at “ultra fast” to avoid using the menus each time I start & stop gaming.

It would have been a nice feature on this monitor to let you choose what button 2 does when the menu system is inactive (e. g. switch inputs or change the response time setting). I like to see examples of settings people are using on their monitors, so I’m providing my own settings here: Windows settings (right click desktop -> display settings -> advanced display settings -> color calibration) I adjusted gamma down 15 ticks (click on the slider, then press down arrow 15 times).

Monitor settings (unspecified settings are at defaults): * Contrast/Brightness: Contrast = 64 (60-70 range seems best) Brightness = 12 (low backlight strength for a dark room) * Color Adjust: user color: RGB = 90,90,90 * Manual Image Adjust: sharpness = 100 blue light filter = 80 * Advanced Image Adjust: view mode = standard AMD FreeSync = enabled response time = ultra fast (some ghosting, but I don’t mind) low input lag = ultra fast (seems to have no downside) black stabilization = 5 (6+ ruins color contrast) * Setup Menu: DP 1.

2 = enabled All in all, it’s a nice compromise for me. It’s a TN panel with the usual shortcomings of TN (perhaps more noticeable in a 27″ 1080p panel), but this monitor has a lot going for it. If you’re a value-oriented buyer who’s planning to stay at 1080p for a few more years, this monitor deserves serious consideration.

While not a con of the monitor itself but something to consider is if you have nVidia cards you won’t get the adaptive/freesync vsync features. However, with that said, for the price you are getting a very nice monitor.

I began testing on a Core i5 z97 platform with two GTX 960s in SLI. At 1080p, I’m able to maximize the graphics settings on most games. I was surprised that even at 144hz things seemed to move along nicely.

This was my first experience with a screen with a refresh rate of higher than 60hz, at least in person. I am quite familiar, however, with the technology behind FreeSync/Gsync and why having a higher refresh rate on your monitor is better in many cases.

To begin testing, I tested on the nvidia platform. I started with a standard Asus monitor with an IPS panel same size as the ViewSonic. I then played two games for 5 minutes each before switching to the ViewSonic monitor.

The games I chose were Tomb Raider and Mass Effect 3. My reasons for choosing these were because 1) they were two types of games that while similar in that they are in 3rd person, they both utilize different graphics engines and Mass Effect is a bit more uptempo while Tomb Raider for the most part can be taken at your own speed.

I also wanted to see the differences with a fast gaming experience vs a more open environment so I could see how much of a difference I noticed. I also tried both screens with vsync on and off. After doing this process a couple of times, I can honestly say that I preferred the 144 hz screen.

Even with vsync on or off I felt that there was less overall screen tearing with vsync off and with it on I couldn’t really tell the difference. Maybe that’s not what your experience will be like, but it was for me.

On the 60hz screen there was a notable difference between vsync on or off. After I was done with the nVidia platform, I moved to an AMD graphics card. This was an R9 390X card. Even with a single card, everything was butter smooth on the 144 hz screen.

FreeSync seemed to be working but I wasn’t really sure how to tell, to be honest. I do think that it was a bit better overall than the nVidia platform, if only by a hair but that’s purely subjective on my part.

Either way, I really enjoyed this monitor and even if you don’t have a graphics card supporting freesync, I think you’ll agree that this monitor is very suited to gaming. I’m not sure I ever want to go back to a 60hz screen again.

For the price and what you get in this screen, I say for gaming this monitor should make your short list. It’s a good deal and the smoothness that comes from my games makes it even better.

Should you buy this monitor? This is a personal question along the same lines as what computer chair/mouse/speakers to buy. “It depends”. DO NOT BUY A MONITOR FOR A FEATURE YOU HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED. You HAVE to do whatever you can possible do to go SEE and/or Freesync in person for the games you play in.

You may see this and decide it’s the absolute best thing in the world and you gotta have it. Or you may see it and think it’s kinda nice, and maybe you can tell a little difference but it’s not worth the premium.

That’s the real bottom line. For me the answer is no, but you shouldnt’ care what I think. Is 144hz and FreeSync worth the 2-300% premium? You can buy three 23” monitors instead of this one. I personally think that would make a better immersive gaming experience, if you play First Person Shooter games as I do, it’s not worth it for me.

But you may easily have different settings and desires than me. (FYI the types of games I play, usually COD series, Crysis, Elite Sniper, Battlefield, etc) I’d call myself a monitor guy. I can appreciate a monitor with proper colors, brightness and features.

I have three Dell 2560X1600 U3014’s so I don’t balk at costly monitors, but if I had about $300, again I’d get three 24” 1080P monitors and game on that. So if you want 23-24” 144/1ms/Freesync good colors and features, and the price is right, you would not be disappointed with this monitor.

IšverstiShow in original languageBought this a week ago from BB when on sale for $399. I have a powerful gaming rig that can do 2k-4k but opted not to cause I like frame rates and smoothness and 1080p doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

Coming from LG 75hz IPS this monitor has not disappointed. I’m not even using Gsync or Pure XP mode and I have no screen tearing or stutters and the image is fantastic. Shooters now have amazing clarity just on default.

With PureXP on, it’s even sharper. Colors are fantastic, of course because of IPS panel. Some reviews claimed the HDR was weak in contrast and brightness but when I switched it on in Windows, no calibration yet and watched some HDR content, it was lit up like a Christmas tree.

Made my eyes hurt it’s so bright. Colors are extremely vivid. I had to tone it down from 50 to 30. Well built, doesn’t feel cheap. Nice metal stand with telescoping and 90 degree so you can play your pinball games or other arcade Mame games correctly.

Headset rest and mouse tether built in ( man I love this) and 2 optional side blinders come with it to block glare from windows if you need to use them. The monitors RGB also syncs to a Cooler Master case so you can mimic what you’ve set on your case if you like that sort of thing.

The input lag is non existent even if you set it at Standard. I’m EXTREMELY preceptive to input lag from gaming consoles and PC usage on bad monitors and tv’s and it is non perceivable from Standard to Fastest.

I Play Planetside 2 which requires high accuracy and reaction especially at medium to long distances and have no issues at all, even with Gsync enabled. If you want constant bias lighting from the rear rgb, you will have to either set it from the case software or download the monitors software as the presets in the monitors settings are limited to just on/off/breathing and strobe in specific colors.

plenty of inputs, HDMI 2. 0, Display Port 1. 4, earphone and actually decent 3w speakers that are above average for a monitor if you ever need back up. It’s really a great monitor. Be prepared to spend the first few hours playing games and playing with PureXp and then Gsync cause it’s a different wonderful experience using both.

One note if your not familiar with IPS monitors: They have the best color and image and are much more advanced with refresh rates and input lag than years ago compared to TN and VA panels but there is an IPS glow effect in the corners which is because of the angle of the pixels to give you that IPS image.

If you move your head in front of the corners, it’s not visible. You can only see this on a pure black screen if you are in total darkness, which is not how you use IPS monitors. For this, setting the brightness down masks it a lot as well as setting it on a n ECO mode, which I use 24/7.

There’s small, really small, lighting increase in a few spots on top and bottom in the same 2 places that is not a defect. If you move your angle to eye level with it, it’s not visible. It’s inherent of the tech and backlight bleed is in every form of panel tech.

You can only see it if the brightness is cranked. Under normal PC usage and in games, none of this appears and none of the image is washed out in those places. You can return monitors and try again but panel lottery with monitors and tv’s are a crap shoot.

Could be worse from what I’ve seen posted from other monitor manufacturers.

IšverstiShow in original languageI got this monitor after trying out the Samsung Odyssey G9 for about a month and then returning for a variety of reasons. This was the replacement I landed on and it’s great! Before the Odyssey G9, I was using a Dell S2716DGR, and this screen feels faster in its response rate and has much better image clarity and color.

I’ve used it at both 144Hz and 165Hz with zero issues. And wow, some of the colors just pop! The reds and blues are so red and blue! On my previous G9 monitor, I didn’t need to tweak the color or brightness setting even a little, so I just used the straight out of the box settings and was very happy.

For the ViewSonic out of the box, the color settings were decent but brightness was very dim. I was extremely disappointed actually, but then I discovered that “ECO” mode was on so brightness would only go up to 40.

I turned off ECO mode and eventually landed on 60 brightness as my favorite spot and it looked great. I also configured the panel R,G,B color settings (the color values, not the RGB LEDs on the outside of the monitor) from one of the review sites and paired that with the ViewSonic drivers and ICM profile (the ICM gets installed automatically with the drivers) in Windows 10.

This was my first IPS panel, and I was surprised by the amount of “silvering” that it had in comparison to any of my previous monitors. It was easy to deal with just by changing the viewing angle, but it was rather jarring at first.

That’s not an issue with this monitor, but rather with the IPS panel type that the monitor uses. The RGB effects on the exterior of the monitor are nice IMO. They light up behind and underneath the monitor giving a gentle glow on my desk underneath and behind the monitor.

You can turn it off or set it to rainbow, flashing, breathing, or static with just the monitor. Never tried the ViewSonic software. The stand looks great and is very sturdy, but it takes up a lot more room than the old Dell monitor did.

I mounted it to a VESA stand with zero issues. Now, this part is entirely subjective. I could never get used to the way this monitor looked after having gotten used to the contrast ratio and the lack of “silvering” on the Odyssey G9.

I eventually swapped this monitor for a different monitor with a VA panel, but that is no fault of this monitor. I should never have considered an IPS panel since I want such an extreme contrast ratio, but I didn’t know that’s what I wanted until I already had this one.

Would I recommend this monitor for gaming or media viewing (Netflix, YouTube, etc. )? Absolutely! Just be aware that it won’t have the same contrast ratio as a VA panel, like the Odyssey G9 had. If I’d never had the G9 in the first place and just upgraded directly from the old Dell, then I probably wouldn’t have even realized how different the contrast ratio could be.

IšverstiShow in original languageI bought this to replace a 15+ year old NEC 2070NX (which is still going strong!). I just wanted something a little bigger with a slightly faster refresh rate. I mainly do photo editing but also watch movies and game on occasion.

The picture and build quality of this monitor is very good. The only thing wrong with my monitor is that there are several VERY noticeable areas of backlight bleed. It’s bad enough that it should have been caught during QAQC testing.

However, there are no dead or stuck pixels, which is pretty impressive. I chose to keep the monitor because I was worried that I might get another one with something worse wrong with it. I’m still quite happy with the monitor, but the backlight bleeding is an annoyance.

Very well built monitor that has a great picture, deep blacks due to the VA panel which is reasonably responsive considering its a VA – there are no signs of noticeable smearing during dark panning scenes in particular.

Fantastic built in speakers which is something monitors usually cut back on. 4k looks as good as you would expect and 1080p upscaling is handled well. All in all its a great monitor and probably one of the best VA monitors you can buy.

After needing a new monitor I checked what Scan had to offer then looked around at reviews. This had good reviews elsewhere and I can confirm they are accurate. Picture quality is amazing, although it took a while to get used to it after my old AOC.

It’s just so much sharper and crisper, despite being the same resolution. Beautiful bezel free design (only about 2-3mm gap around the display edges) and good build quality. Good range of presets and adjustments in the menu too so anyone should be able to get this performing as they want.

Only problem is the input selection as it only has VGA and one HDMI; if you’re only plugging it into one modern device that’s not that much of a problem and you won’t miss the lack of DVI. Oh, one other oversight is the lack of a VESA mount although the stand itself is perfectly positioned for me, even though it has tilt only and no height adjustment.

This is prob ably the best 1440p display out there, but that’s really only because panel manufacturers have failed to make any meaningful advancements with 1440p in the past few years. It seems that most development efforts are focused on ultrawide and 4K despite the fact that GPUs still struggle to drive these panels to their full potential.

The backlight bleed is probably the worst aspect of this panel and it will be a dealbreaker for some. This goes hand in hand with the lack of deep blacks, due to the use of an IPS panel in this display.

Those accustomed to OLED or VA panels will probably be particularly unsatisfied. What it looks like is a grayish glow at the corners of the display, which is worse on the bottom due to how manufacturing variance manifested with my particular unit.

Moving closer to the display and/or viewing it at a more extreme angle makes the effect worse. The other main issue is a small dark splotch which I assume to be dead pixels. It’s only really noticeable on a flat white background and it isn’t near the center of the display, so I didn’t bother trying to get a replacement.

99% of the time it isn’t an issue that I even notice. But again, this is something that will be unacceptable for some people. More of an annoyance than anything, the color controls seem needlessly complicated.

There are multiple “scene” modes, only one of which provides both full control and accurate color response. Inexplicably, this is the “racing” scene mode, which is not at all intuitive. It would be far more straightforward if the scene modes were done away with completely and the user given full control with the color and brightness sliders just like on every other monitor.

Once the correct settings are dialed in, however, the colors do look pretty good and accurate for a non-calibrated display – though, again, the black point leaves something to be desired. In addition, the combination of GSYNC and high refresh rate is awesome.

Input latency is very low and everything feels smooth thanks to the adaptive refresh rate. Overall, this is the main reason that I purchased this display, and in combination with the 1440p resolution is enough to compensate with the obvious shortcomings.

Bottom line, I don’t think that this display is a good choice for people with very exacting standards for image quality. It’s more suited to those who prioritize high and smooth framerates, and who want resolution over 1080p without breaking the bank on a 4K setup.

Excellent high end monitor! This monitor has 3 presets that I think most users will find appealing to look at. FPS mode. a little too red. RPG mode. a little too green Racing mode. just right! There is really no reason to adjust the colors.

Remember to turn off “Vsync” in your Nvidia control panel if you use the Gsync (Nvidia GPU’s) feature. Some games like Skyrim will have screen tear with Gsync enabled. After several months of use I have found that Gsync makes very little difference.

I’m 49 years old and my vision is not what it used to be. I just keep it off now instead of going into the Nvidia settings. Also, once you turn Gsync off in the Nvidia control panel, Vsync ( under “Manage 3D Settings”) will automatically come on.

However, when you enable Gsync you will have to disable Vsync manually or you may experience screen tear. Cheers!.

-Full range G-Sync from 30-165 fsp (compared to it’s free sync equivalent MG279Q with 30-90 FPS range) -G-sync turn on and off when it supposed to easily with no hassle (compared to MG279Q which I could not get to work with certain games namely BF4) -Quality build, looks and feels quality, very sturdy even when adjusting height, pivot, swivel etc.

-Aesthetically pleasing to look at, aggressive styling yet look good with my some what understated professional look. -1440p is noticeably sharper and better looking than 1080p when the content is available.

Most 4k YouTube videos are available in 1440p and video games will have the option to run in 1440p. Makes using windows and even viewing webpages appear more sharp and vivid. -2560×1440 gives more space for multitasking in window or more room for more buttons in MMO games or wider view in FPS games.

-USB pass through handy for wireless headset and keyboard which don’t get as good of reception plugged into the back of PC tower. -Slim bezel and flush screen make the image on the screen appear as though it’s sort of floating there and look someone what magical or futuristic compared to older screens with larger bezels.

-No gloss! Textured plastic stays clean and looks good all the time. Cons: -Price, this monitor is expensive but not unreasonable for what you get when compared to other monitors, you get what you pay for.

-Red ROG logo is not RGB so I turn it off as red doesn’t go with my PC build or theme. -Red ROG logo goes into breathing mode when monitor is asleep instead of turning off. -Power LED is used as an indicator and so it changes from yellow, red, and white etc.

but has no option to turn off the LED as the MG279Q had this feature which was nice. I don’t need an LED to tell me if my monitor is on or off. -Does not allow you turn off the USB pass through when the monitor is asleep as the MG279Q did.

-Most of the black plastic has a slightly gray appearance compared to other black peripherals on my desk. -My PC randomly recognized this as a new monitor. This causes windows to chime and a pop up in the lower right hand corner to display “New G-Sync monitor connected” and some times the built in speakers turn to default and sound stops goingthrough my speakers or headset.

Other Thoughts: -This monitor is amazing! I plan to keep it many many years. -IPS glow is present but only noticeable on very dark screens or when standing up and walking around looking at the monitor.

-The IPS back light bleed is a non-issue as it not noticeable 95% of the time, when using windows or gaming during the day. It only is even noticeable when laying in bed watching Netflix late at night with the lights off and even though it’s only visible during a completely black screen such as “insert commercial break here” or when the credits are running.

Even then it’s not that bad and is on par with other IPS screens I’ve owned in the past namely the Samsung TOC T260HD. It only makes the completely black screen seen some what grayish and glows from the back and just appears to be a normal side effect of the technology.

You have to look for it it to notice it. After a few weeks you can’t even see it even when looking for it really. -Before buying this monitor I bought the MG279Q to save $200 bucks but as I mentioned above I had issued with the freesync and my AMD R9 390.

The MG279Q also was much more gray looking on my desk. The first one had 3 dead pixels in the same spot so RMAed it though Newegg which made the process extremely easy compared to attempting to do it through Asus.

Thanks Newegg! The second one had a dead pixel too so I RMAed it for a credit and added 200 bucks to upgraded to this monitor. The first PG279Q came with a dead pixel so I RMAed it for a replacement as well.

The 4th Asus monitor from new came from a warehouse in California, the first 3 came from Indianapolis(I live in Denver, CO), I don’t konw if this had anything to do with it but it was finally the first Asus monitor from new egg with no dead pixels (I bought my VG248QE from Micro Center) Totally worth it! AFter more than a month of RMAing and waiting for FedEx to deliver and return my monitors I got the monitor of my dreams.

For the extra $200 over the Asus MG279Q you get 21 more Hz refresh rate, better aesthetics, 75 extra Hz of variable refresh rate. G-sync technology which in my experience using a both GTX 970 then later a 1070, was much easier and more seamless.

-165Hz in Windows (MG279Q defaulted to 59Hz in Windows for some reason) -I use this with the red ROG LED turned off. -This is a really much better value than the MG279Q. -Beautiful.

I’ve been really please with this monitor. Got it as an upgrade for gaming. Blown away to be honest but I’m coming off of old 1080 monitors lol. Resolution is sharp, and gets great frame rates for what I do.

Love that it had the USB 3. 0 ports. It’s on an adjustable stand so it can raise, lower, pivot etc which is a must. The menu GUI is nice and easy to understand. I may not be looking deep enough but so far it seems it is lacking auto input detection (I run it hooked up to my gaming PC and a dock for my work MBP) so I have to change input manually when powering on something different than what I last used, but that’s such a minor issue it’s not even a complaint.

Can’t go wrong with this monitor.

Full disclosure. This monitor makes 4k gaming not just possible on weaker geforce cards, but smooth too. Being a refurb i was skeptical and ready to return it the same day should there be any single issue.

Much to my surprise the monitor was and is an absolute STAR! Like many I lined up early trying to snag myself a shiny powerful RTX 3080. After days of failed attempts to get into viable 4K gaming via the 3080 i decided to take a different less popular route.

The plan was to get a faster 144hz 4k panel later if I secured a 3080. My current LG 27GN850 works well with my aging 2080Ti. Instead I switched gears and took a chance on this discounted refurb 4K G-sync assisted panel to see if my current set up would be competent in 4K gaming.

Spoiler, it sure is. As you all know the 2080Ti runs many great games in 4k 60+ fps easily but falters in some titles like Assassins Creed Odyssey, Borderlands 3 etc. These games run close “enough” to 60 but without G-sync the screen tearing is real on top of stuttery sub 60 fps in some intense scenes.

That’s where G-sync / overclocking comes in. Fortunately my 2080Ti oc’s like a champ achieving an additional 15% performance pushing AC to over 60 fps on average but sometimes it will dip below and it’s noticeable on my 4k Samsung tv.

With this Acer Predator XB271HK that stuttery gameplay all goes away. It’s game changing literally. Borderlands 3, Deus Ex, Metro Exodus with RTX ON you name it all feel like a buttery smooth 60 FPS experience at all times.

Full stop. Subjectively the monitor looks like it could eat small pets. it’s agressively designed and definetly has a gamer aesthetic. It’s a 4 year old design, but it holds up well even today with thin bezels just now popping up on the designs of today’s mainstream high refresh QHD gaming monitors.

The Acer Predator has a 4ms response time, there is no RGB, just a led power indicator. There are internal speakers for those interested, but like with most monitors they are not very good, sound flat, “tinny”and I would guide anyone to hook up external speakers or headphones.

The G-Sync is an actual module. This is better than “G-sync compatible” since it works from 1 fps up to the maximum refresh rate of the panel unlike the compatible G-sync monitors which don’t smooth out and sync frames below 48fps in most cases.

However please note it does not work over HDMI in my experience. You must use DP. The panel itself is an AHVA advanced hyper viewing angle “VA” not AMVA. That means even looking at the panel from the side or off center looks fantastic.

It’s 10-bit color and banding hasn’t been an issue thus far. This didn’t come in retail packaging being a refurb, but you already knew that. The refurbished package included a power, DP and HDMI cables.

There’s 2 USB 3. 0 ports on at the rear, a headphone/speaker jack. No users manual was included. Color was pre calibrated out of the box and looked stellar imo. Going into the settings does not use the nipple that’s popular today but instead 6 buttons on the bottom right bezel.

They’re easy to see and access and just take a moment to get used to. I can’t go into much more detail as i’m just an average end user not a panel expert, but i hope this was helpful. A few GPU suggestions for entry level 4k with this monitor Ultra settings: 30 fps: GTX 1070/ti, 1080 60 fps: GTX 1080Ti, RTX 2070/2070 Super, 2080 60 fps+: RTX 2080 Super, 2080Ti and of course the 3080/3090 but these last two can power a 144hz 4k panel.

As always dropping down just one setting from Ultra to Very High or High substantially increases the performance of all these cards across the board and so fourth and so on. Additionally 2016 msrp was 800 bucks, I snagged this sample for just $270 tax included.
