20 Best White Wide Receivers (2022 Updated)

I was lucky enough to snag this when it became available again. I purchased this to replace a Yamaha RX-V6A which ended up being pretty big step up. The main thing I wanted out of this received was the Dirac Live and it works very well.

It takes some time to setup and fortunately I have the UMIC mic for use to calibrate and used my laptop to do the calibration. I had a lot of frustrations with the IOS app and the included mic and gave up.

This definitely seems to need some work and unfortunately you can’t seem to use the UMIC mic with the IOS app. Either way prepare to spend at least an hour setting up Dirac and also prepare to do some follow-up calibration on cross overs and volume levels for each speaker.

Once you fine tune all of that things really being to settle in and show the value of this received. I also tested this with VRR on the PS5 and it works flawlessly. You need to adjust the HDMI inputs, at least in my case, to support 8K enhanced, I you miss this step you will not be able to use all the PS5 4K features.

The remote on this isn’t as good as the Yamaha. There are several single press options that existed on the Yamaha that simply are not there on the Onkyo such as direct selection of Audio modes via a push button.

You have to cycle through options and I find that painful. Bottom line is that the audio quality and Dirac are noticeable and worth the extra $$$. If you don’t care about Dirac then I’d suggest other options however.

I was not disappointed. All specs were excellent. The user interface was a great improvement over the Denon, Onkyo and Yamaha receivers I have used recently. Tip: when moving from 2 to 4 height speakers the connection of back surround will change.

The sound quality left nothing else to be desired, excellent. The preamp outs for all channels added flexibility for experimenting with external homemade speakers, equalizers and analog amps. Loved the DIRAC calibration which used the computing power of a cellphone.

I will mention one other unique issue I had. I was using 2 passive subwoofers with my choice of full range stereo amps. I needed to add external equalizer as during some music environments I could hear noise (digital?).

A regular powered subwoofer would not have this issue, low pass filter and bass boost is built in.

This receiver has worked flawlessly over the past three years I’ve owned it. 11. 2 channel preouts so power amps can be added to lighten the load off the receiver. Cons with this unit are; zone 2/3 is limited on what source can be played; sub preouts are not discrete from on another, same signal from both outputs so setting up two subs will have to be done manually to obtain the best sound.

I purchased the Onkyo because it was supposed to have Dolby Atmos, as indicated on the carton and in the Best Buy product listing. When I was installing it, I read the Manual and discovered Atmos was only available if you upgraded the firmware.

The Manual cautioned that if your attempt to upgrade resulted in the unit not working, you would be financially responsible to have it repaired. I called Onkyo Customer Service and was told the same thing.

I said it appeared to be false advertising. They said I could return it to Best Buy if I was not happy. I then pointed out that I had attempted to visit “onkyo. com”, but my security software said it was too risky, and my personal information could be stolen.

I was then told they had heard that also, but I could go to “onkyousa. com” and it would be safe. Next, I returned to Best Buy to see if they would install it for me. I was told I would have to pay them.

When I asked if I could still return it if my attempt to upgrade the firmware caused the unit to shutdown. They said I could return it as “defective” equipment, as long as it was within the return time limit.

I spent the next two days using multiple flash-drives, and different decompressing software trying to upgrade the unit. Each attempt (10+) ended with “Error 70”. I returned the unit to Best Buy, told my story again, and got a full refund.

The Best Buy folks were polite and friendly, but this was a complete waste of my time and effort. This firmware update is dated 05/19. Either the unit has been sitting for three years, or Onkyo failed to install the up-to-date firmware.

Either way, I now have a Sony without Atmos, but it does everything it is advertised to do.

This is a good all-around amp/receiver. It has more than enough power for most average, to a little above average home 5. 1, or 5. 2 systems. It works best when playing movies, and music that was recorded in at least 5.

1. Stereo, only recorded media playback is spotty: sometimes it will play in 5. 1, and sometimes it won’t. Poorly-recorded music plays with all its faults apparent, on this home theater receiver. Its main drawbacks are, the sound quality is good to very good.

So rarely perfect; and the initial setup, and subsequent setups, are time consuming, and can be problematic. There are setup options that, if you choose certain ones, certain apps will not play, at all.

You have no way of knowing which options these are, and so you have to experiment, and see which ones work with every app, and source, and which ones don’t. I had to redo the setup about six times.

Before I discuss this model, I want to talk about Onkyo. Nearly a decade ago I bought a Onkyo Receiver for a home theater setup. Being an early adopter, this early unit developed a problem where it would loose its program settings under certain situations.

You have to remember that this was early on in programable A/V models where you could assign sources to any HDMI/Optical/Analog jacks to your heart’s content. Onkyo support was awesome. My case was immediately upgraded to an engineer, who rewrote some code for the new model, and send me a firmware update that fixed the issue forever.

Well nearly a decade anyway. A couple of days a go while setting it up to run audio from a new TV, I was having difficulty routing the audio to the optical IN jack. It looked like the TV and Receiver could see each other, so I bit the bullet to call Onkyo Support regarding a 9 year out of warranty product.

I got a live support person within 2 minutes, and within 1 more minute I had the answer to the issue: an internal chip no longer available from Texas Instruments had failed, so there was unfortunately nothing to be done for it.

So, it was time to shop for a new receiver (I do love electronic toys!), so I started looking for the early Black Friday deals for Sony, Yamaha, etc. But then, it hit me. how many companies would have an English speaking tech support person take time to a help debug a 9 year old device? I immediately found an Onkyo receiver on sale at Best Buy.

Ordered it for curbside pickup, and 3 hours later I was enjoying a small home theater setup complete with Apple TV/Blu-Ray connected to a late model Samsung TV with very limited hookup options. (HDMI In/Optical Out/Ethernet/USB In) I will add that this is a mid line model that will work great for living room setups where you have good speakers, and don’t want to go the sound bar option.

It felt good supporting people who stand by their products. That said, I highly recommend Onkyo, and hope you will consider them for your next receiver purchase.

I don’t like to review things with out giving perspective. I want people to understand where my experience is coming from when I write this. I currently run a 5. 1 channel surround sound system in a living room that is less than 380 sq ft.

My center is a Klipsch RP-504C, my left and rights are Klipsch r-41M’s (will be replaced soon with RP 8000f’s), my rears are a pair of Klipsch RP-600M’s, and my sub is the SVS PB3000. Due to space and setup, the front floor standing speakers have to remain on hold.

Because the room is small in size and SVS puts out so much bass, I was more content going with this receiver. Klipsch are known to come to life with lower amounts of wattage (it’s quite true) and mine have an RMS rating of 150W.

This is rated to be 90W per channel but it’s not for all seven channels, and I am not 100% sure it is actually 90W being produced. I think all receiver menus for tuning such and are so behind the times so I am going to complain about that but the rest of the world is also annoyed at that.

Anyway, I have yet to run into any issues with using the menus, it is relatively navigable, and easier to learn using, so that is a plus. The room correction doesn’t work really well for my personal setup, perhaps your experience will differ, so I decided to just leave everything standard and just tune my subwoofer accordingly so it’s balanced.

It’s not a perfect solution but it has made for an amazing experience. It has most of the features you’re looking for in a receiver, Dolly Atmos, supports up to 8k 60hz, it has plenty of HDMI ports for multiple devices, supports ARC and eARC, supports Dolby Digital, DTS, HDR10 and HDR10+, it is capable of supporting two subwoofers (not individual channels), and more.

I bought this while it was on sale for around $549, so if you are looking for a receiver in this range, I would try and wait for a good sale. Otherwise, I would you keep your eye on other receivers around this price range from Denon or Marantz, you might find something much better all around if you stretch your budget.

I recommend this product for purchasing but I personally recommend you save the full retail amount and then wait for a big holiday sale. Then, with that $849, see when higher tier models you might be able to get your hands on with the money already allocated toward the receiver.

Regardless of your own situation, it won’t disappoint.

I got a 4K TV and my 11yr old Yamaha RX-V381 Yamaha would only support 1080P so I decided to upgrade my receiver in order to send 4K to the TV. Due to the widespread shortage of pretty much everything, Best Buy only had about 3 entry level receivers and one midrange receiver (this one) to pick from.

I was tired of the Yamaha’s clunky menus and unintuitive GUI so I went with the Denon AVR-3700H. After spending a good hour connecting everything, my first sign of trouble was when the getting started wizard did not show anything when it tested the HDMI port where my home theatre Windows 10 PC was connected.

To make a long story short, about 4hrs worth of fiddling later and nothing would make the receiver consistently handshake with the PC. I tried different HDMI ports on the receiver and PC, updated the drivers, updated the firmware, tried different power on/power off sequences etc.

One power on it would work fine, the next no signal, the next there was a display but no audio, etc. I also tried dropping the video card in the PC down to 1080P, up to 4K, etc. This was the same PC that had worked flawlessly with the Yamaha for the past 3+yrs.

I called Denon’s tech support the next day and they stated on the phone that they do not support PCs connected to the HDMI ports, only HDMI devices. That was all I needed to hear, I packed up the Denon and took it back to Best Buy.

After taking the Denon back to Best Buy, I had the same problem I had before; nothing but entry level receivers on the shelf to pick from. At this point I did not trust any brand but Yamaha so I purchased the Yamaha – RX-V4A.

After connecting everything I immediately updated the firmware in the Yamaha RX-V4A because some of the reviews for it were pretty terrible with the older firmware. I then switched to the PC HDMI input port and it worked first try; audio no problems and 4K video.

I tested extensively, and I did not have a single problem. So for me all is well that ends well, I ended up saving almost $1400 and got the reliability back that I expected when switching to the PC HDMI input, but after my experience there’s no way I would recommend a Denon.

I have owned several Denon tuners, amplifiers, and receivers over the years and have always been very happy with them. I have been using a Denon AVR-X4000 receiver installed in a media closet to feed two TVs (den and living room).

This only provides surround sound in one room, so after buying a new OLED TV for the den, I decided to add a surround sound in that room with a second receiver. I wanted to stick with Denon because of positive experiences with the brand and their excellent network protocol for easy control over my home network.

I usw custom software on iPads to control my TVs and media devices, and the Denon IP interface is the best I’ve used. I considered a lower-priced Denon unit, but I wanted one with dual-room outputs for maximum flexibility.

The AVR-X3700H was the lowest priced option with that feature so I chose it. Comparing it to my existing AVR-X4000, it’s nearly identical. The two units are the same size and construction, and the front and rear panels share the same basic layout.

The user interface is also the same. Being familiar with all of this, setup was quick and easy. Using the included microphone for AUDYSSEY setup really improves the sound, tailoring it to the room’s acoustic qualities.

I have all of my media sources connected to the AVR-X3700H and it feeds the new OLED TV in the den. I use its 2nd room output to feed the AVR-X4000 so that both TVs in the den and living room can share among media sources.

So far, I am very satisfied with the AVR-X3700H. The sound and video quality are excellent, and it handles all of my sources with seven HDMI 2. 1 ports supporting the latest HDR formats and HDCP 2. 3, plus Bluetooth audio input and Internet audio.

One thing to note is that unlike the AVR-X4000, this receiver does not convert analog input sources to the HDMI outputs. I normally don’t use any analog sources, but I did try to connect an VCR to play some old home movies and that won’t work.

Also, I have an issue with a hum on my subwoofer when I connect its amplifier to the AVR-X3700X’s 12v trigger output. This has not been a problem when it was connected to the AVR-X4000. I tried grounding the units together, but that did not work, so I just leave the subwoofer amp in “auto” mode.

Because of those two shortcoming, and the high price to step up form a single room model,I give this receiver 4 out of 5 stars. If it’s like any other Denon equipment I’ve owned, it should give me years of home theater service, and I do recommend it.

I bought this to replace a 12-year-old Denon receiver that I was pretty happy with, but I wanted a receiver with a phono pre-amp and line in, which few receivers had 12 years ago. I didn’t expect the dramatic improvement in sound that the Yamaha offers.

I mainly use it to listen to classical and jazz recordings, some recent SACDs, but most are older CDs and LPs, plus a few mp3s and even old cassettes. This receiver has settings appropriate for any of these sources.

I am especially impressed with the “enhancement” setting which dramatically improves mp3s and cassettes that had compressed frequency range. But it is also very impressive with high end recordings. With SACDs I use the “pure direct” setting which provides a highly accurate reproduction of the original recording.

I don’t use this receiver much for movies and videos, but it has done a wonderful job with streaming movies in 4k and 5. 1 or 5. 1. 2 sound. As many online reviews have concluded, you have to pay a lot more to get anything better than this receiver.

The only possible drawback I can think of is that this is a very complicated piece of equipment with so many options and settings that are not always easy to figure out. In order to fully understand them, you really need the complete manual, which is only available online.

The brief quick-start guide that comes with the receiver hardly explains any of the options. That means that even a month after getting this receiver, I still refer to the nearly 400-page manual several times a week to refresh my memory as to what a given setting actually does.

It’s not perfect but its a pretty decent AV receiver. It was time to replace my old Yamaha audio receiver which finally gave up the ghost, the power section had issues and kept turning off. So I wanted to get a replacement that handled HDMI switching which my old one did not do and settled on this one.

First thing I noticed out of the box was how much lighter in weight this one was compared to my old receiver. I don’t view this as a plus though. I see that as lesser power driving capabilities but I’m going to assume all the brands are lightening up in this area unless you want to go real high end of the scale.

I’d consider this one in the mid range of the Yamaha line. It seems plenty loud enough but all the sound fields seem a little flat and tinny to me but I haven’t adjusted any of the built in eq settings yet.

I’m hoping I can tweak them a little more to my liking yet. It only has one optical digital input which is a con for me but I made it work. I’d like to see at least one more. I used that 1 optical input as the sound feed from my TV for the rare times I use the antenna signal from the TV tuner or for anything I would input directly to the TV inputs.

By doing this I was forced to use an analog audio input from my 400 disc CD jukebox, yes I still occasionally listen to Cd’s,so a second optical input would have been very nice for that. The setup menus I felt were ok, nothing pretty to look at but functional.

A few settings are not very clear in what they do unless you dig into the manual so a note on the screen would be helpful on a few of these settings. The full manual has to be downloaded online, no paper copy, not a surprise these days.

My biggest issue ,which caused a few days of hair pulling is related to the HDMI inputs 1-3 on the receiver. My ATT Uverse DVR set-top box was initially connected to HDMI input 1. EVERY time the system was powered up the uverse box would soft reset itself and you had to wait for it several minutes to come back up again.

I tried changing cables, forcing a hard reset of the Uverse stb so it reloaded its firmware. I tried turning off the HDMI control and ARC functions of the Yamaha receiver ,all were no help. I was thinking it was just a coincidence and maybe the box had just failed and was about to call ATT for a replacement.

I tried one last thing. I moved the cable to HDMI input 4 on the Yamaha and voila , it worked normally. I’m not sure what is different about the HDMI inputs 1-3 on the receiver, I have to dig into the manual to see what it says, but those 3 inputs are grouped separately on the back of the receiver.

But one thing is certain, ATT Uverse boxes do not play nice with them. For now I don’t have anything connected to those 3 inputs.

It is a powerful and full featured audio receiver, and I tried to give it the proper time to get over bugs and issues I was having. But nothing would fix or paper over the hdmi 2. 1 bugs and audio issues stemming from the lack of bandwidth on any of the ports.

I even made sure to get the manufactured after september date model and it still had the same bandwidth limiting features. My results were the same as anykne else trying new formats such as 4k 120, VRR, Atmos, and 8k 60.

There were direct communications that these issues would be fixed via future firmware updates but the problem lies in the hardware, not the sotfware. It simply cannot do 4k 120 with any premium sound or Dolby Vision.

It does do 4k 60 perfectly fine, as well as premium audio formats such as DTS:X and Atmos. Unfortunately, the money sunk does not give you all the advertised options, and waiting for firmware updates to fix hardware problems will be a dead end.

The advice I have is just what everyone else has done at this point. wait. either buy an Onkyo TX RZ50 (available from best buy as well, just never in stock) or lower your expectations for your high-end setup.

I have zero complaints with the audio processing and power to play my 7. 2 system.

I originally bought a refurbished Denon AVR 540. I only bought it over the Yamaha because the Yamaha was unavailable in the US. After struggling to set the Denon up for about a week the Yamahas suddenly showed up for a very short period of time, and I managed to get one from BB.

I sent the Denon back to the refurbish shop where the technicians could again pretend to fix it. The Yamaha has been so easy to set up, and so far is flawless. The Denon had serious HDMI issues. It would change inputs on it’s own, TV would just turn off, I’d be watching Roku through the receiver and all of a sudden it would switch to DVD, etc.

The Yamaha works as planned. I hit the button for TV, the receiver comes on, the tv comes on, the Satellite comes on. If I activate the bluetooth on my iPad the receiver comes on, it switches to bluetooth, and it starts playing (if I’ve activated Pandora, etc).

I can listen to BT or FM while watching sports. If I hit the DVD button the receiver comes on, the DVD player comes on, the TV comes on (not necessary for me, as I only use the DVD player as a CD player) The sound is fine.

This setup is in our bedroom, with a 43″ Samsung 8000 series TV, with 3 Paradigm Atom speakers across the front, a very cheap Monoprice 8″ subwoofer, and no surround speakers. Not nearly an audio or videophile system, but great for a bedroom.

The Yamaha handles the processing for a 3. 1 channel system beautifully. The auto speaker setup was easy, fast, and effective. The unit is very adjustable. You can change the volume display from the actual db setting to the relative setting (0=100) which always seems easier and more useful.

You can program the extra bass and the compressed music enhancer to come on with appropriate sources. This is a great secondary theater receiver, and a great for the price unit for a main theater. I would think about how much expansion I might need in the future, and how much of the current and future Surround processing I think I’d utilize, as this unit is not the current state of the art, and not very accomodating to many more inputs than I am utilizing.

But for my purposes it is perfect.

After using it for the last few months, I can safely say that it’s worth the money! However, it does have it’s quirks. For example. I had an issue with it cutting back on after 3-5 minutes after powering the unit off.

So I ended up having to turn off the HDMI control setting so the system isn’t randomly turning back on (seemed to do the trick). I guess the other devices are interfering with it somehow. Even turned the bluetooth off on both the receiver and other devices, but that didn’t seem to work.

Also had an issue where it will sometimes randomly change to another audio input setting on the receiver when changing the t. v. audio input (on my Sony t. v. ), back to the receiver audio setting. There’s also a long delay (20-30 seconds) on the receiver when cutting it back on (because I’ll often just switch to the t.

v. speakers late at night so it’s not loud when watching t. v. ). All in all I would recommend. Plenty of sound settings, and tons of customization on the receiver. Although it will take you awhile to get used to it if you’re a novice with newer audio receivers.

Thinking about taking this one back seeing as it may be defective. Or, these particular Yamaha receivers might just have bugs.

This Yamaha 5. 1 channel receiver is terrific. It is used in the den for music listening and movies. The Klipsch front speakers and Polk center, subwoofer and satellite speakers blow sound bars away.

The hdmi inputs make tv and Firestick connections easy. What started as a reasonably priced receiver has turned into a fun listening area. The YPAO microphone helps tune speaker placement for the best sound for yourseating area.

The Bluetooth receiver works great for listening from your devices. The usb port in the front is great for a flash drive full of your favorite music. This product has exceeded my expectations for home hi fidelity.

Have now had about 4 months of experience with the VSX 834. But I am not an audiophile. Setup was easy using the setup program and microphone. And the ARC return signal displayed the menu and progress perfectly.

Connecting the receiver to a game console, Amazon Firestick 4K, My Blu-Ray Disc player and my cable provider’s 4K signal, plus a Samsung 4 K TV all went smoothly. And the picture quality upscaling by the receiver works well.

Am happy with the sound from my 5. 1 system, using PSB speakers. Better than that from an older VSX-818. Live in a 1 bedroom apartment, so volume is not at all an issue. Plenty loud enough to cause major complaints from neighbours! Overall I have very few niggling gripes.

I’m still trying to find out why the receiver turns off when the video source is powered off. I’d prefer to have the volume control on the remote located in the middle of the remote rather than very close to the bottom.

When I first set up the receiver I found a firmware update was available, so downloaded it as per instructions, but the install kept failing! Pioneer U. S. finally resolved the issue. My receiver hah had the update installed prior to it being shipped to me! A “B” in front of the serial number confirmed that.

But finding the correct contact number at Pioneer (Canada or the U. S) was a lengthy and frustrating process. Despite these issues, the combination of price point, performance and ease of setup makes it a 5 star receiver for me.

If you have the funds definitely get a higher model. But this definitely fits my living situation and budget. Keep in mind that this does not come with speakers. Don’t expect this receiver to be a power house, your next door neighbors probably won’t be bothered.

But if you’re in an apartment or shared house you will get complaints. At higher volumes. If you have about 500sqf of living room space and taking advantage of the 2 sub outputs you will have a better experience then most local theaters.

It is a nice receiver. The price point I got it at was great. My wife hates it because it is loud – so it must have been an awesome purchase. It is sleek and stylish and has a great sound. This review might be a little premature since I have not checked all the bells and whistles but so far, so good.

My old LP’s sound superb with this receiver. It is not a starter receiver but it is a great for those wanting to up the audio game.

After lusting after Marantz for years, and waiting for the 4K issue with their chip sets to resolve, I finally took the leap in to a higher end receiver to take full advantage of 4k via HDMI 2. 2, 8k upscaling, and all the other features packed into this unit.

I’ve owned the SR6015 AVR for close to 3 months now, and the time has flown by while I’ve been enjoying this unit. I upgraded my TV to 55″ Samsung LED 4K in 2019 and set my sights on a receiver immediately after.

Bought this unit to replace an ~2007 Yamaha receiver, and the difference is night and day. Screen display is bright and vibrant through the 4K upscaling, but I’m noticing some issues of blending between shades of black and gray, as well as colors in general.

I’ll keep adjusting settings, but I may wind up replacing the TV to something more on par with the quality of this receiver as opposed to the mid-tier Samsung I currently have. Audyssey set up was a breeze, and even with an off-center seating/viewing configuration, Audyssey did a great job calibrating the offset that audio separation of the channels is clearly distinguishable and consistent in volume.

I bought a pair of Sony Atmos add-on speakers as much for the price as the convenience, since I’m currently shopping for a new set of speakers. Currently connected to a pair of NHT 2. 1s, Super Center, and Super 1 surrounds.

After 20 years, these things still sound amazing but I want to upgrade L&R fronts for integrated Atmos. Bass is supported by a 300-watt Polk audio powered sub, also on the agenda to be upgraded. All HDMI’s throughout are Audioquest Carbon 8K, and all 5 front speakers are connected by Monster Z2.

It’s great for movies, gaming on the PS4 is seamless with no discernable lag, and the playback of streaming 4K via the Samsung UHD Player is amazing. I haven’t purchased any 4K source materials yet, but I’m eager to see this perform with actual hardcoded materials, as opposed to compressed signal.

While it’s currently connected via Wi-Fi, I’m not using any of the features like Pandora or Spotfiy, just because I don’t want to stop watching movies with the new audio. So far, I haven’t found anything I’m disappointed about in performance, but I do wish the little Marantz circle lit up like their other receivers.

I love home theater. My main HT room sports for audio a Marantz pre-pro 7702 mk2 and an Outlaw Audio 7900. Dual SVS 12″ PB12-Plus Subwoofers. Mirage HDT Home-Theater Speaker System with 2 additional surrounds.

I have loved the sound of my Marantz pre-pro for all HT experiences there, from 4k streaming to the Oppo UDP-203 BD player. That is why this review is so sad for me to write. In our bedroom we have a 65″ 4k Sony 90J smart TV.

Speaker system is a DefTech ProCinema 800 with 2 extra surrounds and an additional DefTech matching sub. Had used a Pioneer L105 and last year replaced that with a Sony STR-DN1080 receiver. I was frankly very impressed with all aspects of the Sony receiver and was frankly surprised at its performance.

Well, an HDMI port (the eARC channel no less) developed issues in that it would not pass through streaming audio from the TV to the receiver. It was the receiver as tested with another older receiver.

Sony was great and it is being repaired now. But I got the envies for a better experience for the bedroom HT so I went out and bought this Marantz SR7015. I was frankly really excited about setting this thing up and experiencing Valhalla in the lesser HT room.

Long story short. incredibly disappointed with the performance of this receiver. Ran the Audessey setup multiple times. Tried to then do the settlings manually. Admittedly clear dialog, but the sound was actually somewhat anemic.

Surround effects not impressive at all and seemed to muddle through the surrounds as opposed to establishing a clear surround field. Experimented with it for 2 days and finally could not justify the tremendous cost outlay for the return I was getting.

Again, I love my Marantz pre-pro in the main room, but as much as I wanted to like this unit I simply could not. The much less expensive Sony receiver was louder, punchier, more accurate and just a more fun experience to me.

We brought it back today. Much of HT audio is subjective and this experience certainly qualifies as that. But I have to say that while it may fit the bill for many, I did later see similar experiences on web reviews for this unit.

I hope if you buy it you will love it. But for me, it just was not in the cards.

I recently purchased the Marantz SR6015 about a week ago. So far, I am pretty blown away by it. My setup consists of two B&W 603 S2 fronts and a B&W HTM6 S2 center, and a Rythmik sub. I was previously using a Denon X4300H as my receiver, which actually has more power than this one.

Even though the Denon had more power, the quality of sound from the 6015 is just so much better. I find the dialog from the Marntz is very clear and easier to understand. The bass out of my fronts is more impactful, and individual sounds just really stand out.

I am using my receiver using ARC, so I can’t comment on the video performance. Setup of the receiver is dead simple. Just plug in your speakers and inputs to the appropriate spot and you are good to go.

The Audyssey software does a good job detecting the speakers and setting the appropriate distances. I would recommend buying the MultiEq app that gives you some extra control customizing the Audyssey configuration.

My one complaint with the Marantz, is that it has such a small front display. I noticed the higher end models have second hidden display in the front. I really wish they would have added it here as well.

I was debating getting an Anthem receiver, but hearing how hard they are to setup (and seeing the Best Buy associate having a problem using it) I decided to go with Marantz instead.

Needed to replace an old AV receiver that was occasionally “popping and hissing”, which never gets better. Although we now live in FL, Abt has always been our first phone call. After talking with their sales people, we decided on this one, primarily due to Yamaha’s reputation for quality in everything they build.

Set-up of the unit was easy and while “tweaking” the sound for our listening was a little more difficult than basic set-up, it was no issue. (I recommend downloading the full manual for reference – it is pretty easy to follow, especially when on an iPad to refer to when working with the receiver).

The sound is so much better than our old receiver, with the center channel being more clear and our surround speakers more evident. This receiver adjusts perfectly to our set-up (which is 5. 2, not 7.

1). Assuming the quality and reliability is like other Yamaha products, we are very happy with our purchase.

Nice receiver with many, almost too many, adjustment parameters. Sounds different than the Denon I am replacing, but good. The biggest difference I’ve noticed is the accurate HDMI switching. The Denons, both my older one and a newer on I tried, would switch slowly, or back and forth, and maybe finally settle in on the correct one.

The Yamaha, although being a 7. 2 channel, has nine speaker output, and has the ability to switch between 7. 2 and 5. 2. 2 atmos. Only outputs 7 cannels at a time, but differentiates to which speakers based on the content.

Unit came broken with the buttons jammed into the chassis. Back antenna jack bent too. It probably got dropped or jammed around during shipment. But I need it so Im getting it repaired

This receiver is a good Denon product. I bought one some years ago (3) and didn’t have problems with it. I have connect the unit to a infinity Speakers (P 363) like an stereo amplifier. Good sound, clear and discret.

You don’t listen bommy or noise picks in the bass, mid and treble frequencies. It have surround modes (arena, jazz, church, live, stadium, matrix and so on) and bypass mode (direct). You can connect it with an equalizer in the DAT connection.

I used with a TT technics linear tracking (phone connection) and a cd player. Good buy.

I do a lot of auto repairs and detailing in my pole barn. I wanted to add some good sound to make the time there more enjoyable. The Denon receiver was perfect to power the Polk Surround Sound System I installed over the winter months.

I have been a Denon Customer for Fifteen Years. This Receiver Has Excellent Sound with allot of punch. I am using this unit with 5 speakers and a sub. Great Surround Sound! Very User Friendly! I would’t expect anything less from a fantastic company in Pro Audio.

I use this unit in my small home office where I work 3 to 4 days per week. It provides the perfect blend of power, convenience, and functionality. I have it connected via my home ethernet network and it performs beautifully.

The YPAO feature worked great in achieving excellent sound in my small office. I have it connected to a pair of vintage JBL L20T speakers and a Polk subwoofer. I mainly stream music from my Mac over my home network and listen to FM news radio.

This is an excellent unit and I highly recommend it for those who desire a no-muss, no-fuss, easy-to-set-up unit that delivers excellent, high-fidelity sound.

The unit performs very well but there are some issues. #1 You have to manually set up wifi using your remote control that comes with the unit. Don’t try to follow the instructions for MusicCast if you are going to use an Android phone.

#2 Make sure when the unit connects to wi-fi or wired connection that it performs all firmware updates before proceeding. I found I could not use the MusicCast app to set up the unit because it needed firmware updates before it would connect.

WPS does seem to work for this. #3 once all the firmware is updated – and this might take multiple rounds, keep checking – THEN you can connect to the MusicCast app. #4 your phone if Android MUST be connected to a 2.

4GHz WiFi network and not a 5GHz. MusicCast app absolutely will not work when connected to 5GHz using an Android phone. Of course this may all change once Android updates its own software in the future.

Once I figured all this out, the unit works perfectly.

This receiver was purchased to replace a 24 year old Yamaha receiver. Pros: Nice simple appearance, good features for the price, easy to set up, felt well built. I had it hooked up, connected to my wifi (through IOS share) and playing via AirPlay very quickly.

Cons: the sound quality was disappointing. It sounded “leaner” than my old receiver that was rated at 80W vs this at 100W. Also it had a higher noise floor which I could hear at low volume levels. I may still recommend this if you have a basic audio system and you don’t want to spend any more.

Just surpassed all my expectations across the board. The sound quality, dynamics, details and nuances are exceptional. This AVR does a great job for Music along with movies, games et all. My setup is: Klipsch RF 7 III and RC 64 III fronts, RP402 surround, RP500SA for front height and dual SVS SB3000 Subs.

5 ear level speakers are powered via Emotiva XPA gen 3. My previous experience has been with Denon x4000h AVR and Onkyo’s prior to that. With the Denon’s, it was always a compromise with sound quality.

was generally bass boomy, details and vocals were hard to pinpoint and i thought it was the speakers and peripherals that were the bottleneck so had gone down the path of adding the Emotiva amp and upgraded speakers to RF 7 line.

Unfortunately the sound quality while improved, was never inspiringly joyful. so took the plunge with RX A8A. Couldn’t be happier that i did. Wasn’t expecting such a vast difference to SQ, though this upgrade is substantial at pretty much double the price of the Denon x4400H.

The sound stage, dynamics, bass quality and nuance, detail and just overall balance and tonality of sound has made me smile more than a few times. It’s just the way i always wanted movies and music to sound.

Was apprehensive of the YPAO calibrator having read so many negative reviews vs the Audyssey Multi EQ. Yep, the directions and details in how to use YPAO can be better. My recommendation: don’t just do the one point calibration, do at least 3 and above point calibration.

I’m not sure about the measurement accuracy etc, but the sound that i got post YPAO 6 point calibration was just what i wanted, Subs perfectly dialed in and bass vs overall tonality – exceptionally kicky, precise and tons of dynamics.

For movies i use the Natural PEQ and for Music I use the Front PEQ. Finally reached the sound quality that i had been aspiring for since the last few years and super glad that Yamaha delivered. This ones going to be my end game setup for hopefully 3+ years.

Ordered 10/17 and ready for pickup 10/22. Unit came with 1. 10 firmware and updated to 1. 14 from USB since network option grayed out. Offered 1. 22 on 10/30 after turning on and completed over network; this version is not on their support site.

Pros: – Overall, a good upgrade from RX-A1030 – Decent upgrade to YPAO and better results – Atmos virtualization surprisingly sounds great. Setup with 7. 1 but no front presence and two additional speakers for second zone.

– eARC works but still trying to figure a way for components to not get automatically controlled – Sufficient power for movies although I’m using an external power amp for the front channels Cons: – Small screen and hard to see information from distance – Shiny plastic front.

Didn’t they learn years ago when it was “a thing” on TVs to have fingerprint magnets and reflective annoyances? – Remote is too long, top heavy, cheap plastic back, rough edges where front/back connect, back light erratic, wasted space at bottom, no 0-9 buttons to dial in radio stations directly or channels.

– UI cleaned up slightly but still archaic and poor/limited management of favorites from broadcast radio and Sirius/XM – Archaic web interface and very limited – No physical manual! Could have made it way less than 411 pages if they didn’t waste all the space with poorly formatted sections and redundant basic explanations.

No in-depth material for advanced topics. Did they think they were on a government contract and getting paid by the pound of paper? – Removed multi-channel input which was using with RX-1030 for a control amp and legacy components – No analog video and certainly not worth the cost to jump to the A6A; time to keep separate systems – Didn’t see a clock setting and USB backups were dated 2013 and 2014 after 1.

22 update – Able to disable Bluetooth but didn’t see anything for WiFi since I’m using wired – No HD Radio although other regions support DAB – Still made in Malaysia and not china, yet – Still have no use for the Scene feature.

Let’s be straight – this is one great sounding receiver with great features. I noticed a better, more clear, more punchy sound compared to my old 3010. And it is feature filled (as long as the promise to bring the HDMI ports up to the full 2.

1 specs and HDR 10+ with a future fw update. However there are some items that preclude me from giving it a 5. 1) The display is a just simply way too small – a common complaint for the new Aventage receivers.

I don’t mind the “cyclops” look (others hate it), but I am already missing being able to see the display from my seating position. It is awful and this a big step back from previous Aventage. 2) Also a step back is the functionality of the remote.

Now, the remote feels good in the hand with lots of heft; however there are no discrete buttons for inputs and DSP programs – instead one has to scroll through them. There are also other things missing like an info button.

I was able to program a Harmony for those buttons using learned commands the 3010 remote, but this is another step back. 3) While the MusicCast app pretty good and gives a lot of functionality and information, there is no Windows app – just Android and ios.

One used to be able to control music and sources through the web interface. If I am immersed working on my PC, I hate having to pick up my phone or tablet to control the music. Having said that, the web based setup interface is very good.

4) HDMI control still is a mystery with my Sony TV. I want to be able to be able to watch the TV with the TV speakers sometimes for shows like news. I can do that, but HDMI control has to be turned off and it makes things cumbersome.

This could be a Sony problem tho – not sure. However, eARC works well and again the receiver sounds great with Atmos streaming from apps on the TV. I also like the flexibility Yama gives for Atmos with the height (presence) speakers – you can mount them either on the front wall or ceiling.

5) YPAO calibrations remains wonky. For instance, my very large front channels are sometimes set to small while my smaller front presence speakers are set to large. I have run it many times, and the results differ almost every time and with strange combinations.

But to end on a good note – I am still pleased with it due to the sound and all the many great features that you can read about. But there have been step backs in a few areas and I just cannot give it a 5 due to those – especially for the high cost of the unit (and it is way too costly, but I needed a new receiver and couldn’t wait for price to come down).

Good sound, but was not impressed that to stream music from my phone directly to the receiver from Spotify requires a Premium subscription. The same with at least 1 other App. Also, Best Buy and Onkyo websites state ” 100W RMS per channel at 8 Ohms, 20Hz–20kHz, 0.

08% THD, 2 channels driven “. Yet while going through the Setup a second time I fell upon a function ” Select your speaker impedance ” with 2 choices – 4 Ohms or 6 Ohms. In preparation to buying this TX-8270 (which I received today), I purchased a decent pair of 8 Ohms 130W RMS floor standing speakers for $1000.

Most 2. 0 channel amps have a 4 or 6 Ohms switch at the back. Since this one doesn’t I assumed I needed 8 Ohms speakers. Now I find out this 2. 0 receiver is capable of pushing higher than 100W RMS into 6 Ohms speakers.

Very, very disappointed and might be returning this TX-8270.

The receiver is not easy to set up (lots of steps), but there are quite a few unique features that I appreciate. If your system includes a TV (video), setup is a little easier as instructions will be displayed on the TV if hooked up.

Once you know your way around the features, the item is easy to use.

I bought this to replace a 3 year old Sony 5. 1 channel receiver. I am surprised just how much better the sound is coming from this receiver, using only my existing 9 year old 5. 1 channel speakers! I did not need to add ceiling speakers, or additional up-firing speakers to fill my room with Dolby Atmos sound.

I did update the firmware posted on Pioneer’s website, using a USB stick, to support the Atmos Height Virtualizer. The sound is a huge upgrade over the Sony receiver I had. I’d typically rarely hear the rear surround speakers, or even the subwoofer.

Now, all speakers are utilized to great effect. Even regular TV watching sounds much better. I am very happy with this purchase!.

After my old receiver stopped working, I finally decided to upgrade my receiver. I bought my old receiver back in the early 2000’s and boy has the technology improved. The sound is so crisp now. The set-up was very easy and the receiver basically did all the work for me! It’s been a month and cannot complain at all.

Also, it was delivered in less than 24 hours! Great sound and easy to use.

I purchased this to replace my old 1080p home theatre receiver from a leading name in the industry, which was several hundred dollars more. The first thing I noticed was the sound processing was greatly improved.

The VSX 534 also has all the power I need to run large speakers easily. Setup was easy with the set up microphone and the onscreen menu made things very easy to figure out. This is a very impressive receiver that punches well above its weight class and has all the form and function of those priced much higher.

For me the best feature is the “Dialogue” Control which allows me to turnip or down the level of dialogue in whatever I’m watching, without changing the master volume. A pretty cool feature, I thought! Bang for your buck, this receiver has to be considered one of the best deals on the market.

My last Denon receiver lasted 27 years, so I have high expectations for its replacement. Buyers of this generation of receivers should know that there are issues with the front panel display not working.

The fix is cheap & simple for those not afraid to open up the case and solder a fuse onto the back of the circuit board. Instructions are widely available on the internet.

What makes higher end Denon receivers shine is the Audyssey set up wizard. The unit comes with a setup mic and cardboard “tripod”. The wizard emits a series of tones that allows the receiver to make adjustments based on the room characteristics.

This gives surround sound movies an amazing 3D quality. It also makes music sound amazing.

After working out some kinks the receiver is performing very well and our family is enjoying watching movies with the surround sound. Thanks!

So far I have nothing but good to say about the Integra. Advanced manual is readily available for download and really opens up the receivers capabilities. High end speakers are a must, expect 3-4K into a proper speaker setup.

Remote is very adequate but nothing fancy. I would like to see a cover for inputs to make the face seamless. Quality is felt in the weight of the unit and all buttons and knobs feel smooth and well built.

For an entry level high end unit the Integra should be on the list when shopping.

This pre-amp is rock solid, and continuously updated with the latest features. The surround capabilities are very impressive, and after listening to Dolby Atmos you wont go back. It upconverts to surround very well.

Pros: – easy to setup – on screen display overlays volume and info over the video which many others do not – Dolby Vision and HDR support.

I replaced an RX-Z9 with the RX-A3040 since the Z9 began intermittently dropping the left front channel. I think the 3040 is much more musical than the Z9, and reminds me of my RX-V2090, which I thought was one of the more musical Yamaha AV receivers I’ve owned.

I always thought the Z9 sounded a little muddy no matter what the program selection, i. e. DSP, 2 CH, 9 CH, etc. I also own an RX-V4600, and find it more musical than the Z9, but not nearly as nice as the 3040.

Well done! When I first powered up the unit and turned up the volume, I got nothing other than background noise/static. I was more than a little freaked!! Then, it occurred to me that I might need to run AUTO SETUP using YPAO to initialize the amps.

That worked. Second problem was that I could not log into SiriusXM via wired cat5 network to router connection. I recalled an on screen message saying an update was available, so I ran the update. I could then log into SiriusXM.

Home Theater: I find the receiver front panel displays useful in terms of operational information and control. I also like the bass management and DSP program options. The 3040 seems to deliver a better overall home theater experience/sound than the Z9, especially with bass.

In addition to Boston Acoustic presence, center, and surrounds, I’m running 4 Boston Acoustic VR975s with powered subs front and back, and the bass sounds full and deep on the 3040 for all program choices.

It can rattle the windows. I use the 3040 most often for HD Radio (24×7 classical on WERN HD2), which is the primary reason I selected the 3040 versus the 3050. My Z9 did not have the HD Radio feature.

Yamaha, please put put an HD Radio channel selector button on the front panel (i. e. MODE) of HD radio receivers versus having to use the remote? This is annoying to me. Another minor problem I’ve run into involves the optical output on the AV Out section.

The RCA out jacks ALWAYS send audio to connected devices, but the optical out does not, and I can’t figure out what the pattern or rule is. User manual didn’t help. I’ve contacted Yamaha support via email.

For example, when listening to HD Radio, the optical out does NOT send output through the optical out connector but DOES through the RCA jacks. However, when I switch the source to my Motorola cable box (optical input connection on AV4 in), it does send audio out through both the AV Out optical and RCA jacks.

Confusing. I like the network radio feature and, once past the SiriusXM login snafu, I find that I use this feature second most to HD Radio. I also appreciate the fact that I do NOT need to login into SiriusXM every time I use this source as the receiver “remembers” my credentials and automatically connects.

Very user friendly. Since I listen to classical music most often, for both HD Radio and Network material, I very much appreciate the DSP program/sound options, i. e. church, music hall, etc. Especially useful when listening to pipe organ music.

Here is another area where the bass management/output capabilities of the receiver shine. I also have a Marantz SA8001 SACD player connected via both RCA and optical. It’s fun to switch the Marantz DAC (RCA connection) versus the Yamaha (optical connection).

Either way, the sound is amazing. Again, I think the 3040 is much more musical from an audiophile point of view than my Z9 was. I forgot how tuneful/musical the Boston Acoustic VR975s could be until mating them with the 3040.

The internal amps are sufficient for my needs using the Boston Acoustic speakers mentioned above. I have a large listening room and get a very full and loud sound running 9. 2 without having to crank up the volume much past half to three-quarter volume.

And at that level, I usually here from the wife pretty shortly, i. e. “Does it have to be that loud?” Our house if about 2800 square feet on four levels and I can hear the receiver clearly when at 3/4 volume.

Plus, the sound remains clear and undistorted when cranked up. I use the zone 2 feature to route fixed audio output to a second powered system on the sun room attached to my listening room. I love the zone 2 feature and the audio distribution options available with this and other Yamaha AV receivers.

In summary, I am 99. 9% happy with the RX-A3040. I think it’s a great AV receiver value at list, but I purchased mine at more than 30% off. Since I use HD Radio most of the time, I would really appreciate a MODE selector button on the receiver front panel.

Last word is that I am very pleased with the musicality of the 3040 versus the Z9. The 3040 equits itself admirably with 2 channel audio receivers or separate preamp/power amp combos. I’m sure it would be an outstanding preamp if used in this configuration.

The product is well built and has plenty of power works really well for movies. I want a product for both music and movies. The 2 channel selection is lacking there is no way to fine tune the sound. I am a tone chaser and like to dail in the sound by way of an equalizer which you do not have in 2 channel mode.

I replaced a high end 135 watt Onkyo due to some problems that they have now fixed. The Onkyo was better for 2 channel sound. I am running SVS subwoofer and the bass is lacking with this unit. It is there but not like the Onkyo.

I am going to eventually try a second SVS sub. Still a good product for what is out there. Yamaha has always been good for what I need but this needs a little fine tuning to be great.

I wanted to start moving my home theater to Dolby Atmos and DTS-X, so I decided to research upgrades to replace my current Denon AVR-3808-CI receiver. The 6200 was the lowest model in the line that didn’t have less power than my old receiver.

The price gave me pause, but, after going back-and-forth arguing with myself, I finally decided to grab one. I’m really glad I did. I honestly didn’t think I would hear much difference, but, I actually do.

And, it sounds great. Movie dialog and effects sound. cleaner is the best way I can describe it. Now, to start working on the extra speakers to get the full effect. Luckily, I already have nine not including the sub.

Super easy set up, but also allows for customization. The sound is fantastic. I love the 3 zone capability, it comes in handy with my outdoor speakers. While people are watching a movie, I jam out in the pool.

Pairs easily with bluetooth devices. I can use my Android phone and iPad air without any problem. I am not a technical audiophile nerd, but I know what sounds good and what doesn’t. This is a great value (as long as you aren’t paying the full $2500 retail – which is why I assume you are ebay).

If you are looking for a high end system with plenty of capability, great sound, and ease of use, this is it.

I have my Denon 6200 paired with the Cambridge Audio Minx S325v3 5. 1 speaker system. The sound is amazing. I am not an audiophile, but I enjoy the separation of instruments in music and I love the realism of sound in movies.

It is also paired with a 55″ Sony Bravia 4K and the new Sony Ultra HD Blu-ray DVD player. Picture and sound is awesome! I am still learning all this system has. Still trying to figure out how to use the “learning” remote to use it on all equipment mentioned.

I don’t think the remote is “universal,” as I understood it to be.

From a technical standpoint, the sound, flexibility and use are all excellent. The Remote3 app should be an embarrassment to Onkyo. As well, using the regular remote to change alpha numeric labels and such is really, really annoying and the ability to do this should have been made available on the unit’s web page.

Of course you mostly only have to do this once, or infrequently. Still. Really impressed with my vendor and that the unit arrived a little ahead of schedule; thanks! Very happy I bought this.

The Onkyo arrived much earlier than expected which was great. The sound I was looking for came. too. Having lost some of my hearing I needed the Onkyo to improve the sound quality of our TV. Both the music and speech sound much better so I pleased with the purchase.

Love this receiver. Driving my whole house audio. Easily get sirius ( with subscription), pandora, etc. Also can use trad inputs, cd etc. Can use both cat5 or wifi connections. Awesome.

This Anthem replaced a 300. 00 receiver. I should have done it years ago. This Anthem is so dynamic and has plenty of power. It’s hard to setup. Mainly the ARC room correction. I could not get it to work.

No test tones could be heard. Finally figured it out. Had to let the Anthem room correction software have firewall access. The firewall was blocking the test tones. So after that all went smoothly. My speakers never sounded so good.

This has punch. You can feel the bass. I have all diy speakers and subwoofers. Now they really sound good super happy. Only thing I don’t like is the remote. The volume sticks and it really doesn’t control anything but the receiver.

Will get a new Harmony Remote or similar. Not a big deal because the great sound, open soundstage, punchy bass, great dynamics, and Awesome room correction software. I’m very very happy I got this receiver.

Comes with a calibrated USB microphone and a nice stand. I did measurements from 8 locations. Software tells where to set the mic to get the best sound from the listening position.

I have researched and owned various AVRs over the past 5 years (yes, it’s a Home Theater sickness) and have never felt really satisfied with the performance, until now. And yes, I have the whole acoustic treatments, bass traps in the right places, light controlled, etc, etc.

I was somewhat skeptical that Anthem (or any other higher end AVR) would be appreciably better at audio reproduction, but I was amazed that not only was audio better but so was the video. Even 3D popped more.

The wife is my QC. I come from an Onkyo TX-NR 818 (Odyssey x32), which is no slouch at all and I have to say that Anthem’s ARC is a notch or two better at sound correcting with regards to imaging, location and the overall stage experience.

I’m 30% music and can honestly say that the 510 extracts (best to explain it) 10-15% more nuance out of the source. I’m VERY happy and I look forward to getting a “refurbished” MRX1120 bargain down the road.

I see ATMOS in my future. as I said before, it’s a sickness!.

Hi just recently spent a small fortune on AV equipment, tv, amp, ceiling speakers, surround system etc. the help and advice given was second to none. Very insightful. Good advice not trying to upset everything.
