20 Best White Wood Filler (2022 Updated)

I ordered 12 bottles of this product. The product worked great for shallow holes, but not for extra large fill holes. Two (2) bottles of DAP did not harden in extra large fill holes after 1 week indoors at 70 degree temperature.

Very disappointing, extra work digging out and time lost on project. However, the product does stain well and application was easy to apply and sanded well.

I recently tried the DAP Plastic Wood Filler Natural color in the tube for many repairs in my home. I didn’t realize it came in a 6 ounce tube which is a decent size for my projects. I needed a wood filler for both interior and exterior areas.

I used to use Elmer’s wood filler and Bondo. I like the DAP much better. It is easier to use and has a stronger bonding power and sands smoother. I was pleased with the durability and ease of use. I filled in a few minor 1/8″ deep gouges on some furniture, cupboards, and doorway frames.

Outdoors, I used it on my shed hinge screw holes and the cracks on my gourds. I had some long deep cracks on some of my birdhouse gourds and Dap wood filler did a tremendous job of making the the deep cracks on my birdhouse gourds virtually invisible after staining them.

I had to fill in a few layers and let them dry in between because they were somewhat deep. DAP also worked extremely well for filling in the screw holes for my heavy drapery hardware and so far it is holding up very sturdy and strong.

The only issue I had with the filler was that I would have preferred it to be a little thicker. Using Dap in a vertical position such as a door, sags downward from gravity. I had to keep pushing it up with the putty knife until it dried a little more to give a better hold.

To get around that, I just put some Dap on a piece of foil to set out a short time before using. No big deal. I was able to easily sand and paint the areas after they dried. The end result was excellent.

I used to use the powder type filler mix with water to control thickness but still prefer the DAP wood filler, and performance of it for durability, sanding, water clean up, staining/painting and the finished appearance.

It was so easy to wipe off the areas I goofed up on with a damp cloth. I will purchase more of this DAP wood filler from now on and I recommend it highly.

I could not find a date on tube of Elmer’s Pro Bond Wood Filler tube. I was disappointed because as I squeezed the tube the fill would not come out. I cut wider and at an angle and still no luck. When the tube side gave way, I used what I could to fill my small holes.

What a mess. I do not recommend this product. I asked my man to get me the stuff in a tin but he did not listen to me and got me Elmer’s ProBond instead.

I had hoped that Elmers Probond Tinted Wood Filler would squeeze out of the tube like thick toothpaste and be easy to work with. My experience was a little different. The filler was very hard to squeeze out, even after enlarging the hole in the nozzle.

The wood filler was drier than I expected, giving less than a minute of working time. Maybe okay for small nail holes, (except I had to enlarge the nozzle) but difficult for larger dents. I will be pleasantly surprised if it isn’t dried up the next time I go to use it.

Great for filling nail divets in pre primed trim. Water clean up. Need 2 applications for deeper holes, no paint touch up needed over filled holes. An Ace associate sold me a tub of brown wood filler and said to use a small brush w/white primer to cover the brown filler.

Seriously? He didn’t know this product existed. Google did.

Thank goodness for this product! As my floor boards have shrunk over the years creating gaps in between, this product is the perfect filler! Just match the color of your flooring, put a bit on your finger tip and fill the gap! Simple and easy fix! Love it!!.

This fill putty is oil based as opposed to others which are water based. The result is a superior color match as well as superior longevity. The water based versions firm up much too fast in the plastic container.

I’ve never had a problem with excess residue to its oil base. I find it wipes as clean as other brands.

I own a cabinet shop and fill a lot of holes. This product works better than anything else I have tried. It does not get hard for a long time. Can be mixed with mineral oil if it gets too stiff. You can mix colors to get a custom match if needed.

Stain, seal, putty holes, finish. Works great!.

I do a lot of 3D printing with PLA filament mainly and before painting the terrain features, it is often necessary to get rid of ridge lines and such using the Elmer’s Wood Filler. I have some very large structures, and so it can take a while to cover them with the Wood Filler.

I purchase the small containers because once it starts to turn dry it will turn color. If you have a large container the catalyst is in the filler that is invariably going to dry, and if you don’t use all of that large container, then a lot of it is often wasted.

If you purchase a bunch of the smaller ones, then far less is lost, and usually you can pace your work for your models by using a jar at a time. This approach has worked well for me.

This is amazing. You just take a little bit and use a scraper to fill in an area where some veneer has come off older furniture. I let it dry overnight then went over it with a wood stain paint and you cannot tell I had repaired my antique buffet at all.

No horrid odors either and cleans up with soap and water if you make a mistake.

This is a good product. Its a small container. Bigger is better! So get the bigger one if you plan on doing a lot of filling. By a lot I mean I did three door hinge holes and about 6 cabinet small cabinet knob holes and isn’t much left.

I will go bigger and buy it again.

I had a lot to fill so didnt know whether to buy a small or large tin. On seeing the tin thought there would be plenty; the tin is only half full! On the plus side it went further than I thought so there was enough.

To mix it says use a pea size of hardener to a golf ball of filler. Think very small pea! I used it outside on a hot dry day so that could have had an effect but it had to be in place within 10 minutes.

You’ll get 10 – 12 balls of putty, depending on how big you think a golf ball is. Work quickly and it’s very easy to use, hardens quickly and is super easy to sand smooth and level. I suggest wear gloves & use a different mixing pot each time, even the unhardened putty is dificult to get off anything it touches.

The filled area needs more coats of stain than the surrounding wood, to blend in fully. All told, a very good product, fills deep holes, easy to get a good finish. I would deffinitely use again now I’ve had experience.

Having just moved to a new home where I have 4 heavy wooden gates which unfortunately have seen better days. After reading previous reviews which honestly gave great advice I set about repairing the gates rather than a very costly replacement.

Started by removing loose rotting wood and applying the wet rot wood hardener I was ready to start the filling process. I mixed the filler as stated, working the filler into the various areas. You need to be quick as it really does set fast.

sanded it down later that day and finally coated the gate with a 10 year weatherproof gloss paint. You wouldn’t even know there had been rotting wood there. If a 55year old female can do this anyone can.

Repaired half-glazed wooden door. DeWalt multi tool saw ideal to cut out the soft/rotten wood. Large, deep hole filled quickly and easily. Plywood panel then fitted over whole bottom half of door, covering some of the filled area, then further minor filling of hollows and final sanding before painting, two coats Sadolin Antique Pine to match rest of door.

Filler takes this finish well and door doesn’t look conspicuously patched. Third coat should make it hard to detect. Good sound repair. Much easier than replacing the whole door and a fraction of the cost.

I have found DAP Plastic Wood to be the best wood putty thus far. I prefer the mixture from the tube though. The consistency is better than that of the 16 oz. square tubs. The product in the square tub dries out way too quickly for my use.

I have used the tube to repair dings and nicks in our siding and to fill the gaps where the sheets of siding meet. I am also able to form/sculpt a ‘wood grain’ finish in areas of the siding that required extensive sanding which removed the wood grain effect.

My husband brought home a competing brand of wood filler in a tube, it cost more, performed poorly and was more like sawdust mixed with a bit of glue. It wouldn’t even stick to anything.

Got the job done for the purpose project that I was on. Was a good match for the wood that I was refinishing. But it dries very quickly so if you work with the product you must work fast to make sure that you get it completed in time before the drawing.

It molds very easily it doesn’t take a lot of the product to complete what you need to do and feeling cracked so whatever your project might be. It does have an odor. So make sure that if you do work with a mask if the fumes annoy you.

Although the fumes may not be harmful it is rather a strong odor.

I have used a lot of Timbermate over the years and I have found it one of the most versatile wood fillers around. To David from Melbourne, who gave it 1 star, you can add water to it when it dries out and it as good as the day you bought it.

I have added water to this product after not using it for 2 years and it worked perfectly. Another tip, if you want to fill large holes, do it in stages of thickness no deeper than 3mm and then add more, when each stage has dried.

It’s always a good idea to seal it , if putting it out in the weather. I am an average handyman but I find if you’re going to do anything unfamiliar, read instructions or do some research first.

I used Timermate for a grain filler on small vanity before trying it on my kitchen cabinets. I’m glad I did. The stuff worked great at filing the grain but the smell is terrible. I didn’t mind the smell so much when I opened the container b/c it smells kind of like a band-aid/medicinal.

After putting a coat of primer and 3 thin coats of pain on the cabinets they look great. but the odor is like a nursing home. and not a clean one. I have ordered a different grain filler to try one the kitchen cabinets.

I have about 3 8oz containers of Timbermate left over.

This is a very light colour. If your jarrah sees any sun, it’ll darken, and this filler will really stand out. I added some black paint in mine which made it a much better colour match. Also if you use it outside, it will dissolve in the rain.

I have used this product in white and natural on previous occasions and have found it to be very good. I’ve even used it to rebuild the moulding of an Edwardian window frame where it had rotted slightly.

Good to sand and drill. However, I find it almost impossible to get the product out of a tube once opened (especially the larger tubes). Today, I gave up and cut the tube open. It appears to have got the job done and the rest has gone into a small glass jar so, hopefully, it will be good to use again.

I find it hard to believe that I’m the only one to have this issue and Ronseal needs to deal with it. Excellent quality product, decent value for money, product easy to use – product packaging leaving something to be desired.

I used this as Screwfix don’t sell a plain white wood filler! The two pack seemed a faff and very smelly, so I used this for minor repairs, screw and nail holes in skirtings and door frames. Ordinary filler won’t sand smooth enough, so you need this stuff.

It dries v quick so take a small dollop and pop in a tub. Use a good sharp flexible filler knife. Sands easier than some wood fillers for a smooth finish, which can be an issue for non professionals,but is hard and smooth.

Good stuff. May need a key for smooth surface. Natural colour is pale enough to easily paint over with white (plus you can see where u did yr repair jobs, so you can easily sand before you paint over! Natural is actually a plus!.

I was not quite sure about this as I have not used a ready mixed wood filler product before. I used to use a filler that came with a tube of hardener, which was always very good, It would also set in the cold.

This product was applied to repair a chipboard laminate that had blown partly on one edge due to damp. I gouged out the damaged chipboard to the solid. I did all this repair work in my garage to save the mess in the house, also it was very cold, about 5 degrees outside.

The filler had not hardened after two hours. So I brought the panel indoors to warm up and it set very well. I had to build the repair up in two 5mm layers. This time I applied the second layer indoors and it did set within the two hours.

It also sands quite easy with a sanding block. Very pleased with the result.

I love the way the Wunderfil filled grain and sanded. It dried really fast (1 1/2 min) so I had to seal small areas at a time. Wunderfil’s ability to fill deeper pores and tearouts was superior to the other grain fillers I tested.

I thinned with water to the consistency of heavy cream to fill grain. Wish it came in black, I used universal dye to dye it jet black, over a vinyl sealer, so my pores would be black. Wunderfil sealed the grain beyond 90% and the neck (mahogany guitar neck) is more or less smooth like glass.

I will continue to use Wunderfil. Having had issues with Aquacoat turning white inside the pores of mahogany (probably my fault, but unsure) , I dug out a jar of Wunderfil (water based ) I bought from Rockler at least 10 years ago.

After a stirring session (20 minutes maybe) I tried it on a test panel, and it was good. Very amazing. You have to stir this product folks, and its not the like stirring a cake mix, it takes a lot of time and effort.

I dyed it black (took LOTS of black dye) and tried THAT combination on the test panel, and it was good. After a nice coat of vinyl sealer, I grain filled the mahogany, which had been stripped. The water-thinned and dyed Wunderfil grain filler worked marvelously.

Used 2 applications. After the 2nd fill was applied, I bagged my filler cup in saran wrap so it might be good the next day. Next morning, the filler was still usable, so I did a spot fill of a small but nasty little grain tear out and two DEEP long grains, and they filled famously.

Sanded the whole affair lightly and carefully with 320 fre-cut (I used dye on the bare wood as the stripper bleached it out a little). The filled mahogany looks like I envisioned it looking, with the pores black from the dye.

It was a surprise how well it would be spread on wood. It sands very well and fills holes great, one might have to do a second or third application depending on the hole size. No matter, I was happy with this wood filler.

I would recommend this product.

I read the reviews that this was too thin to fill deep holes, however: I had resourced some some 50 year old oak plywood with multiple holes (1/4″) drilled completely through the 3/4″ sheets and this filler filled the holes as easily as anything I had used before without run-through and minimal recoat.

Will re-purchase when needed!.

much smaller pot than expected though amount of 250g was clear enough. Not used yet; thought I’d try this one rather than any much cheaper own brand (eg Wilko), because to be used in very exposed locations where door-sills have just started to rot in corners at door frames in a couple of our cottages.

I’ve already applied a wood hardener liberally. Have used Ronseal filler before that requires hardener, with good results and lasted well.

why I got this I’ll never know, bought to repair a chip out which it does an exceedingly average job at. doesn’t stay very flexible, dries too quickly into a sandy patch that’s easy to rub/knock out unless over coated right away and bloody expensive for what it is.

Recommendation: make some sawdust, preferably with the same material to be repaired and mix into a thick paste with wood glue and use that to repair for a lot better match and repair. or if staining/over painting, any type of sawdust.

Thanks to Elmer’s claim that their wood filler is stainable, my piece is RUINED!! It does NOT absorb the stain! Wherever you used Elmer’s wood filler, it will LOOK LIKE you used wood filler because it stands out VERY NOTICEABLY from the stained wood.

Thanks a lot, Elmer’s. I worked long and hard to get this piece just right. which is was, until your “stainable” wood filler was NOT stainable!.

All the trim I install is touched up with this filler. It goes on easily with a fingertip and smooths out with a damp cloth. It makes my final paint coat flawless! I hate the look of the little divots left by an air nailer and this product does the trick! Also available in wood tones if you are staining rather than painting.

I was a painter for many years and when I needed to fill wood i would use Bondo which was god it was hard to work with as it hardened quicly and was hard to clean up. Famowood is a latex product and hardened great.

Easily sandable and easy cleanup. The gallon size is a great value and about a third of the price of other wood fills.

I used this product on my floors. I filled in all the cracks. It was easy and sanded well. then I stained my floor and it looks like an old fashion floor. I loved this product. The company was easy to work with and got the product out right away.

This is best stuff and I have used a number of different products for gap filling! It dries fast, it sands easily and it just all around amazing. I will criticise the size of the container because I wish it was bigger, but that’s besides the point.

For under $10 it is still more expensive than others products but I will always come back to this one now!.

I’m happy with it. I like all the color options. Good price. Goes on before a finish is placed. Sands easily. Planes reasonably well. Until something better comes along, I’ll be using this

This wood filler is smooth, applies evenly and sands easily. I used for painted cabinets. Highly recommend.
