20 Best Whole Foods Coffee (2022 Updated)

This was a gift purchase I received. I have a caffeine allergy and cannot tolerate most decaf coffee brands. This Organic decaf coffee is delicious, smooth and full bodied with no side effects to someone like me that is often triggered with migraine’s.

I’m just hoping it’s easy to purchase where I shop. I don’t believe you will be disappointed in Allegro Decaf Ground Coffee.

This decaf coffee in both types did awful things to my lips- I finally figured out the culprit after taking away many things I’d been using- as soon as I stopped drinking this brand my lips went back to normal.

They were so tight I couldn’t smile anymore and they were shedding and burning.

I am addicted to this coffee! It is so bold and smooth. The flavor is great and i love that it is a high quality coffee. I add vanilla syrup to it and it’s so good. This could be sold in coffee shops its so yummy.

I also love the espresso for an extra caffeine boost in the morning.

One of my favorite coffees for a rich deep taste. I keep the beans in my feeezer and grind as needed, which is most days. This is a stronger taste so if your not someone who wants a bolder taste add less grounds and more water.

It’s great with breakfast, on its own, and with dessert.

I bought these Lavazza espresso barista intenso beans to use in my bean-to-cup machine as we are keen coffee fans in our house. The beans produced a lovely, full-bodied coffee with a good crema. The coffee has a lovely aroma and the taste has a hint of chocolate.

The beans are a combination of Robusta and Arabica, and are well blended and roasted to give just the right balance. The large 1kg bag provides good value, and I’m pleased I opted to try it. I’m looking forward to trying this coffee in an Espresso Martini!.

Upon recommendation we tried Lavazza Espresso Barista Perfetto. It was enough unlike Pienaroma that we needed to find another. The Espresso Italiano is more to our liking (still unlike our favorite–Pienaroma) but closer.

It grinds more evenly than the Barista did–our Vario Baratza grinder is happy at the manufacturer’s recommended setting for espresso. The Barista Perfetto was all over the place in settings. We had to set it super coarse when fresh and chase the setting towards finer and finer as it aged.

For reference a 2. 2 lb. bag only lasts us a couple of weeks and we store the open bag in the freezer. The Barista Perfetto always tasted thin. We could not get the richness of the Pienaroma. The Espresso Italiano is closer, and we are still experimenting.

We are on our second bag of six total ordered.

For context: I only drink americanos instead of drip-coffee from a coffee machine, and milk-based drinks instead of straight espresso. I have tried just about every Lavazza whole bean coffee, and this one is by far the worst.

I found the flavor to be on the darker side, which is not a bad thing. But when that is coupled with bitterness, that’s just a deal breaker for me. Obviously, these characteristics are more pronounced as an americano.

As a latte or cappuccino it was more palatable thanks to the softening of the taste from the milk and foam. Nevertheless, whatever chocolatey and nutty notes this coffee may have, they are too subtle to appreciate, especially with the bitterness that is present.

I’ll put this on my “Do Not Buy” list.

I was looking forward to tasting the Lavazza Tierra Selection again because the first time I tried it I was very impressed and thought this was the blend I would buy from now on. It was a while before it was available again so just recently tried it with this purchase, but I was a bit disappointed.

These beans are well balanced on the acid level to my taste, but they fall short when it comes to strength. I tried adjusting grain size and coffee volumes but it did not improve much. I went back to TOP CLASS, which is what I normally use, and I was able to get really good strong shoots with a good amount of crema.

I think I will stick with the TOP class for now. However. I just noticed that the picture of the coffee beans bag that came from the review request is Not the same as the Tierra I received with the order.

Im attaching a pic of what I received. I also have a pic of the tierra i tasted a while back. Bag is slightly different.

I was a little miffed about the $12. 50 shipping charge on the coffee, but this was quickly overlooked once I got the first taste. I did not realize at first this was a 2lb bag either, but man this stuff is nice and smooth! Not acidic like some of the other coffees I tried.

Not greasy either which is nice. Thank goodness, I have not seen any rocks in this like alot of users on Amazon report. I must say, so far I am thoroughly impressed with this coffee. ***I am using this with my Gaggia Prestige with the most fine grind setting so far and only straight expresso and Americano’s so far.

I have not tried with any milk based drinks or different grind settings thus far***.

We enjoyed Anniversary Blend very much. It was a well above average coffee, pretty well rounded. It’s a medium roast, but with bold body so it wasn’t timid. If it were the only FRC coffee we’d tried, it would be OK as our “go to” coffee, but we are on a mission! Coffee is an affordable luxury and we’re searching for the best; we don’t want to settle.

The Anniversary Blend entered into an unfair fight: we bought a bag of it at the same time we decided to splurge a bit on a bag of Haitian Blue. The bags were big enough they lasted us a while, long enough to do ample comparisons between the two.

It was no contest: the Haitian Blue won convincingly, and although it’s more expensive, I just buy the Haitian Blue in 5# bags, which puts us over the free-shipping threshold, and use Fresh Points to get a discount.

Sure we could spend half as much on our coffee, but it’s not like we’re buying caviar; we can afford a few more dimes per day to get the best coffee we can brew. So nothing against Anniversary Blend.

If you’re contemplating buying some, go for it. It might be exactly what your taste buds want. For us, it was good, but noticeably less so than the Haitian Blue. We’ll keep exploring FRC’s extensive offerings and see if we find something we like even more than Haitian.

After the start of the pandemic, I purchased an espresso machine to keep me caffeinated while working from home. Being from Hawai’i, I have developed a taste for fresh espresso made with Kona coffee beans and wanted to reproduce my favorite coffee house flavors at home.

This proved more difficult than I expected as I quickly realized why a good Kona coffee drink typically runs $6 or more – Kona coffee is expensive. So began a two-year search for a comparable replacement.

I purchased fresh medium espresso roasts from national chains, small specialty roasters both locally & nationally, and even imported coffee from Italy. I have a few favorites, but all the caffeine started to get to me.

Enter the half-calf products from Fresh Roasted Coffee LLC – I have tried nearly every variety of their half-caf options. For espresso-based drinks that most closely resemble the Kona coffee flavors, the Peruvian is definitely #1, however, my husband likes Italian espresso flavors and prefers the Mexican half-caf blend.

I am a coffee grower/roaster in Kona Hawaii and am experimenting with coffees to blend with coffee from my estate for an espresso blend. I am ordering roasted coffee, but when I decide the blend that works well, I will order green.

I have ordered (2) batches of this coffee and they were almost identical to each other and true to the roast label indication of Medium Dark. This company certainly knows how to source green coffee and roast it reliably to a predetermined roast profile.

The time from order to delivery is impressive. My roastery stocks no roasted coffee as we are a roast-to-order business. Fresh Roast is not a roast-to-order business, but they certainly have very freshly roasted coffee, as their name implies.

The days past roast date is not so critical to brewed coffee, but it super critical for espresso. Both batches that I received seemed to be about the same in freshness past roast date. As someone who is buying roasted coffee for espresso I really need the date of roast on the package, That is the only negative thing I can offer for my experience with Fresh Roasted.

As a coffee grower and roaster with 12 years of experience I can certainly recommend Fresh Roasted.

Cant recommend these guys enough. Absolutely wonderful beans, always shows up fresh. Flavor is on point every time, and Im very impressed with the consistency. I drink it black as the joke goes, I like my coffee like I like my women.

Empowered, bold, and rich. wait, hows that go again? and its seriously the smoothest, least bitter coffee Ive tried to date. It has a natural light sweetness that is just perfect, and IMO doesnt require any sugar or whatnot.

If you, like my wife, do want to put cream in it Im not judging hey on the Sundays I make a foamy latte with it as a special breakfast treat but this coffee is bold enough that you can taste it through whatever you muck it up with.

Highly recommend treating yourself to a good brewing method, I go with a ceramic burr grinder and do it w/ a french press, but aeropress works great too. Drip brew will work just fine, but youre missing out if you stick to drip brew.

I apologize for the length of this review, but this product truly warrants a paean to the coffee gods. I first found Mayorga Cubano in a Marketplace several years ago. Before that, I had been a diehard Starbucks French Roast drinker.

No more. I moved to a small town about 4 years ago, and the nearest Marketplace was in another state. I asked my daughter if she would send me my coffee every month. Her reply was something along the lines that surely I could find a coffee that was just as good her taste buds were accustomed to pseudo coffee drinks that completely masked the coffee with syrups and flavored creamers.

Fortunately, I found my Mayorga Cubano on Home Deliveries USA, and available as subscribe and save, no less!I have converted several people to this brand: the Marketplace cashier, a complete stranger in the coffee aisle who I convinced to exchange her bag of Starbucks beans, etc.

A somewhat morbid example: I served Mayorga at the reception after my mothers funeral, not really an occasion for which you would be thinking about coffee. However, both a cousin and a family friend asked about the coffee.

They were understandanly embarrassed, but truthfully, it was a welcome distraction to the reason we were gathered. If you prefer a dark, rich coffee with an incredibly smooth after taste, this is the coffee for you.

And even better, you dont have to sacrifice quality asa conscientious consumer: This family-owned company strives to ensure that every step in the process is clean. You can be a good steward for the planet while savoring a truly wonderful brew.

I would take a picture to post if it lasted long enough to take a picture. Im out! I am ordering the five pound bag after I-dont-know-how-many two pound bags. I only just saw the five pounder. But what else is there to say? I have bought many different brands of coffee over my 68 years of living and breathing, and nothing beats this Cafe Cubano Dark Roast! I have another brand that I was forced to try because both this brand and my backup brand were out, and Im tossing it in the garbage.

So this is to say, if you dont take my word for it, that suits me just fine. The more people that purchase the Cafe Cubano Roast, the greater the odds it will not be in stock the next time I need some.

Vitacost has several options for equal exchange coffee. The trick for finding the right type of coffee (light, medium or dark) is to look at the gauge marked on the front of each bag. I prefer dark roast, so I chose the coffee with the gauge at the top.

This coffee is excellent! I used to buy an un-organic brand that happens to taste just like this coffee. The reason I switched is because, even though the other coffee tasted great, it was giving me headaches.

I am very sensitive to the foods I can eat. Everything has to be healthy and organic or I get headaches. So far, no headaches! I sometimes get headaches from food that claims to be organic, so I just have to test it and see.

This coffee is also fair trade which is a plus. Even though this coffee costs double what I’m used to paying, I will still continue to buy it for the quality. It also is the cheapest organic dark roast coffee that I found in my internet searching.

I like my coffee black. I like to taste the nuances of the bean, not the burnt flavor of over roasting. My personal favorite coffee is becoming Starbucks Veranda blonde roast. I often blend it with a medium roasted coffee perhaps in a 3:1 ratio, but Veranda by itself is good too.

Hopefully by knowing my preferences, you can guage this coffee a little bit before you buy it. It’s taste is very good. I’m still trying to adjust the amount I use in my maker. Too little and I get more of the flavors, but it tastes too thin.

Too much and it’s full bodied, but now a little over roasted. I think I will look for a lighter blend with less or zero French roasted coffee added to it. In the meantime, this will mix nicely with my blonde roast and the unopened bags will make great gifts for my friends that like darker roasts with cream, sugar, etc added in.

This is my first time trying Cameron’s. I knew as soon as the bag was opened this was going to be good. This coffee is amazing. The beans are dark and oily, the aroma is heavenly. It’s full-bodied, but amazingly smooth.

Seriously, it’s velvety smooth, which kind of surprised me. There is no harshness that you might get from a cheaper blend. The flavor is rich, it reminds me of a smoother Starbucks French Roast. To be honest I normally drink espresso, but my wife drinks drip and since we just opened the bag this morning I thought I would try it.

It’s great. Anyone that claims this is not high quality coffee is just wrong. I believe Cameron’s when they say it’s top grade. If you don’t like dark roast, avoid it, but if you do, I think you’ll love this Scandinavian Blend.

My only dilemma is it’s out of stock, and sometimes when things go out of stock at Sam’s they’re discontinued. I hope that’s not the case here.

I prefer to grind my beans for a finer auto drip coffee. I searched the Sam’s Club site for various options, and this looked like a great deal for 4 lbs. of beans. They feel firm, smell fresh. The grinder handles the beans, although they take moderate grinding as opposed to say, Espresso beans from other roasters.

Anyway, I am not an elite connoisseur but I do like this coffee. I can tell it is organic as it has a lighter aftertaste. The best I can describe the flavor is tropical, the smell offers pecan wood. I drink coffee with cream, and it blends for a rich, smooth cup.

This is just okay. We like our coffee dark and smooth. I would say Cameron’s organic espresso beans are better than the French Roast but Andover Target does not carry it so we are stuck buying the FR.

Out of all the organic coffees Andover Target carries, this is the best one. I really wish they would start buying the Espresso Roast but I’m not sure Target listens to their customers like they used to 10 years ago.

I drink coffee from sunup to sundown 7 days a week and am picky about the coffee I try. I don’t like gimmick flavored coffee with added flavors but prefer coffee to be dark and bold & strong. This coffee is exactly that, very reminiscent of a expensive Columbian premium roast without the bitterness & acidity.

I have heard it described as having a woody hint of flavor, I didn’t get that but rather it had a very smooth enjoyable coffee taste. In short it’s a coffee that other coffee should aspire to be & will become my daily coffee.

It’s Christmas day 2020 & I’m drinking a cup as I type this wishing those reading this the best in 2021.

French Roast is one of my favorite dark coffees, and this one is the best I’ve had in a LONG time! Deep, rich aroma with a smooth, smoky taste that goes on almost forever. Since it comes from New Orleans, I give it an infinite number of Mardis Gras beads! If you’re a dark roast fan, this should be in your cup NOW!.

I have bought this coffee on a number of occasions now. For medical reasons I want a low acid coffee but it seems to be impossible to buy this in the UK and I am forced to import it from the USA. What with postage and import charges this makes it expensive.

At the moment the exchange rate is very poor causing the price to increase even further. However, you do get a nice big bag for your money which lasts me for a long time. It is lovely coffee with a mild, mellow taste.

I recently ran out of this coffee and while waiting for my latest order to come from the USA, I was forced to buy a small bag of ground coffee from my local supermarket. I found that this tasted bitter when compared to Puroast and I did not enjoy it; indeed, I discarded it when my Puroast arrived.

I love this coffee and will continue to buy it.

What I love about this coffee, it has a great flavor and its smooth and if you suffer from acid reflux or if coffee bothers your stomach this is a great coffee to drink. If you suffer from Interstitial Cystitis (IC) this is a great coffee to try.

Low acid coffees are better than you think, I have to drink low acid coffee because I cannot drink regular coffees (doctors orders), and I was surprised at how good this brand is. I have other family members who can drink regular coffee and they tried this coffee and liked it, also the price is about the same as most other coffee companies.

They have a good selection of flavors and and they also have decaf and a good selection of decaf flavors. Puroast is a great coffee, and the price on Walmarts website is one of the lowest that I have found.

You have to order online because they quit carrying it in their stores.

I had to research this before I purchased it and thought I read that the hazelnut flavoring was natural or even the nut itself. I just opened the bag and I have a terrible headache and middle ear itchiness just from the aroma.

These are the first signs I get with my sensitivities to fragrance and other chemicals. The ingredients on the bag simply states “coffee. ” This product may be OK for those who do not have allergies to artificial flavors or even natural flavors from flavor houses.

However, I cannot recommend a brand that has such lack of transparency. I’m very disappointed.

This year’s holiday trio has a different variety and is quite a steal. I love Stumptown coffee. I have a subscription for the Hairbender blend, however my favorite coffee beans tend to be single origin, Guatemalan beans.

I look forward to the Bella Vista beans all year round. This set includes a bag of Bella Vista, a bag of Nano Challa which is a single origin Ethiopian bean, and Evergreen which is a blend of the two.

It makes for a fantastic gift. They come in a gorgeous holiday box. Regular price is $48 for the set, which is already a good deal, but it’s on sale for 20% off until December 13th. I ordered 3 boxes.

Two as gifts, and one for myself. I love ordering from Stumptown. They roast your beans right before they send them, and they deliver quickly using UPS. Rise and grind!.

I’ve tried and enjoyed Holler Mountain and wanted to try another Stumptown offering. I grind my beans and use french press or pour over, mainly french press. Homestead is balanced and smooth. Flavors are mainly milk chocolate with hints of orange/lemon and floral notes.

I extend the brew time for my press to 7-8 min. to bring out the flavors of a light roast like this. This helped I would not recommend 4 min. brew time for press; use pour over instead if you don’t want a longer press brew time.

The flavor was a bit weak. I used a 1:14 or 1:15 coffee/water ratio for my press and that gave me a stronger flavor, but nothing great. I thought Holler Mountain was better, had a more complex set of flavors.

I might try Homestead again but then again maybe not.

This is GREAT coffee if you know how to extract properly. I grind it a little more fine than I should, and on a French Press, 4 heaping scoops, to 2 c. HOT water. Pour it onto the freshly groud beans, let it sit 1 minute, stir, then place French Press top on.

I like to let it steep 14 mins. I find that if I do it less, it’s too acidic for my liking. If you plunge at 14 mins, it’s good. If you plunge later than that, it’s still good but the coffee is not as hot.

To the person that called this coffee “gross” — pretty sure it isn’t the coffee. Maybe it was the way you prepped it. Good luck, next time.

This blend deserves more ratings and attention. I’m a devoted coffee drinker of some 50 years. I use only fresh, whole beans, ground daily, and prepared in a french press. I stir continuously for four minutes to extract the maximum flavor.

I prefer a dark roast as I believe this roasting level delivers more richness and complexity than french and italian roasts which tend to mask the natural flavor profiles of the beans. Since I drink a pot of french pressed coffee daily, I am in continual search of the finest quality beans at the best price.

Arrosto Scuro meets all of my criteria and makes an excellent dark roast cup of coffee. I highly recommend this coffee.

I’ve been a decaf espresso drinker for a long time, sampling dozens of roasters for a bean that is flavorful, complex, and evocative. This, I’m afraid, is at the bottom. Burnt, heavy. Tried everything with my Profitec Pro 600 with its flow regulator to try to discover a way to reduce its harshness.

Nothing helped. Trust me, decaf espresso drinkers don’t have to compromise—there are very good beans out there. Wish this had been better since they’re a local roaster whose Columbian Supremo is superb.

On the label, under the name, it says “artificially flavored” in small print. This is less obvious online, where you’re shown a more zoomed out view of the packaging and the artificial flavoring is not mentioned in the text.

There’s a tremendous difference between “tasting notes” of a blend or single source coffee and just a bunch of added flavorants to make coffee taste like something else. If the beans were of any obvious quality, you wouldn’t adulterate the bean.

Please make the artificial ingredients more obvious in the text of the online copy so that customers don’t get any nasty surprises when receiving their package.

This has become the only coffee we drink! The very fruit forward flavor is outstanding. Hints of blueberry shout out on finish in this high quality, organic, fair trade coffee. The medium roast is excellent as a 1st cup of the day.

While the fruity finish makes this a excellent dessert coffee. Probably the most versatile coffee we have ever used. As a result we can buy in wholesale bag size and go through it in a reasonable amount of time as we brew it all day long.

Makes a excellent iced coffee with any leftover and in the summer is perfect for cold brew.

This is our standard coffee order, and it was perfect as always! We do not purchase coffee any other way. We especially like whole bean coffee because it is so fresh when we have just ground it right before we use it.

Buying a large bag eliminates the shipping cost as we combine this with an order for decaf at the same time. Every morning we mix the two together to cut down on the caffeine, something we appreciate as we are older coffee drinkers and sleep has become an important commodity.

Amazing coffee. Amazing customer service. We are on the subscription service directly through Koffee Kult. Our 80 ounce Sumatra coffee package showed up obviously damaged by FedEx. There was a huge hole in the bag and beans were spilling out.

I’ve been searching for a fair trade coffee since my favorite coffee was discontinued. Coffee is my favorite morning ritual. The smells when the beans are ground, the bloom when the water is poured over the grounds, the comfort of a hot cup when the rest of the house is still quiet and asleep… I read all the reviews and decided on this blend.

I was hopeful that I found a replacement. Right away, the beans didn’t have the delicious coffee smell that I expected but I figured I’d give it a go anyhow. I brewed the coffee using my pour over carafe like I usually do.

There were definitely no notes of toffee, hazelnut, chocolate, and caramel. Instead, the coffee turned out sour and bitter. I couldn’t even finish the cup. I’m not sure if I just got a bad batch or what but this was extremely disappointing.

Now I have 5 pounds of coffee I can’t drink. I wish I could return but I did open it and use some. I guess my search will continue.

I drank conventional for a long time, till I learned it was one of the most heavily sprayed crops. I’ve tried organic coffees from here to there, this is by far the best tasting ( I’ve had the Colombian and breakfast blend ) even better than the conventional coffees, not to mention the peace that comes with knowing it’s free from pesticides and whatever other kinds “cides” that are used in conventional coffees.

WOW! What a treat. I had cut back on my coffee in favor of yerba mate and green and other teas for flavor and energy and less stomach distress but this coffee has me hooked again. This White Nile Blend is gentle and flavorful with citrus, nutty and caramel notes.

I use a regular coffee scoop per cup for my French Press ; (first though, I add cinnamon and barely cover with cold filtered water so not to burn the bean). I then add hot water, just before boiling, and let it set 10 minutes.

PERFECT. Such a treat!!!.

This has become my new favorite coffee! I still had a whole jar of my old favorite coffee when I received my bag of this coffee from thrive. Upon comparison the color was richer and the smell fresher and stronger than the “freshly ground” coffee I usually buy.

Even though this particular coffee comes ground already the quality was impressive to me. I go through less of it as well to make a “strong” cup. The hazelnut flavor isn’t too overpowering but adds a nutty richness that isn’t artificial.
