20 Best Whole House Fans (2022 Updated)

This fan was purchased for a small house in Northern California where summer nights are cool and summer days are hot. It is run at night and the hose stays cool during the day. The fan is pretty quiet and it is energy efficient.

It has a small footprint on the ceiling. We use it with the separately purchased wireless remote control. I can’t comment on the install because someone else did d that. This type of whole house fan is more expensive than others, especially for the energy efficient model, but the price on Zoro with an offer from my credit card bank was very good.

I was encouraged to write this review by a #sweepstakes offer but the review is completely honest.

I bought this fan as an energy efficient cooling alternative for our home. It requires a reasonably accessible attic with enough space to hang the unit from the rafters or truss system without kinking the included duct work which needs a nice gentle swoop (check diameter in specs based on model purchased, bigger fan equals bigger ductwork and damper/register box) and runs on a standard 110/120volt receptacle which you want to control by a switch so you dont have to climb in your attic to plug it in every time you want it to come on.

It is relatively simple to install and comes with everything you need to INCLUDE the back draft damper (very important make sure if you are shopping around any fan you look at has this or you need to buy one separately, it stops the attic heat from infiltrating your living space and any conditioned air from leaving your living space when the fan is not in operation.

If you dont have this you defeat the purpose). You must be a semi skilled DYIer and have residential electrical experience. If you are uncomfortable at all with that, climbing around your attic or cutting a square hole for the damper box using the provided template and framing it in for strength I HIGHLY recommend professional installation.

The last thing you want is a poor install on nice new piece of equipment (its only as good as the installation). Should you choose to perform yourself make sure you follow ALL the manufacturers instructions and do not assume anything.

The full installation could take anywhere from 2 hours to a couple days depending on the access, space available and amount of ELECTRICAL needed (usually the most work if no circuit, receptacle or switch is present).

Be sure to check references on local installers and only go with a company you can trust. Also check with your utility provider for any rebate offers! Save your invoices and packing slips because you may be entitled to a rebate which helps take the sting out of hiring an installer.

You may want some professional guidance on properly sizing the model as well (that is also a fairly critical piece). I chose the 1400 cfm model which will comfortably cool a 1500 sq ft home and have had it for about a month now (and love it!).

It is super quite and very effective. We run it whenever the temperature outside is slightly cooler than the inside which is most evenings (6-7pm where we live) til mid morning the next day. I havent had a chance to compare our utility bill to the same time last year but expect a quick pay back.

This is a great product and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it.

Follow the manufacturer guidelines with regard to size needed for your size house. It is recommended that you order a CFM fan that is three times your home square footage. It is spot on. I have an 1800sf home and ordered the ES-5400.

It has two speeds. The higher speed is great to cool the home down quickly and the lower speed I use to run the fan at night to continually pull in cooler air. I also bought the remote switch which works every time even at 70′ away with walls between the remote and the fan.

I installed the fan at the opposite end of the home away from the bedrooms. This way cool air is pulled into the bedrooms first for comfortable sleeping and the fan noise is virtually undetectable. Good quality.

Does what I wanted and expected. Really like the remote switch as I don’t have to get up in the night to turn off or adjust as the remote sits on my nightstand. Fan could be packaged somewhat better.

Shroud slightly dented but useable.

Almost a year later our electricity bill went down 60-70% in spring, summer and fall months. Can get the house down to 60* or lower at night except in July, but it still gets down to 64 depending on overnight temps.

We let the AC run once it gets up to 74 but to be honest it really only runs during peak heat season of the summer. Low setting is whisper quiet and still draws in a significant amount of air. We spent the extra $100 to make sure we had enough CFM power to work efficiently and it was worth every penny.

If you live in a dry climate that cools at night you wont be disappointed. This unit will have paid for itself in 2-3 years in savings on electricity in the summer. Cant imagine what the savings would be with the more efficient models, my calculations showed it would have taken another 3 years in electrical savings to pay for the unit.

We can draw in warm fresh air in the winter on a warm sunny afternoon running it for 10-20 min. In the early spring and late fall running it for an hour or two cools the house enough for the full day.

Also if you buy one, calculate based on your homes cubic square footage not square footage alone. Thats why we jumped to the 5400 and it was well worth $100. Glad we figured that out before we just bought a cheaper model on sqft alone.

Install was super easy, just a few tips, if your electrical line is difficult and you If you install the summer; run your non-live electrical beforehand then install starting at 5:00 am the next day.

I tried to do both in one day and probably lost 2lbs in sweat being in the attic at 110* in those few hours. Do it in two phases and you save yourself the difficulty of the heat. Or just install during the spring months.

Last tip get a second set of hands to hang it and youll save time and patience. Took me about 10 min to hang it buy myself as its awkward because of the size and weight.

Just finished the fan installation and now finally taking advantage of this fan and how it rapidly cools my house and how much quieter it is compared to other fans I have heard. I have no issue with the fan itself, it’s solidly built.

This fan was very difficult to install, and I’m pretty handy. I needed assistance to help me lug this into the attic in two pieces. My house has a high roof and there was no way I could attach this fan to the roof joists without some serious modifications because the support straps are very short.

My biggest complaint about this fan is the ceiling grate. My ceiling joists are on 16″ centers so I removed the side metal flanges as per the instructions. The grate is made to screw into all four metal flanges.

When you remove the side flanges there is nothing for the side screws to bite into. This is a design flaw in my opinion. I solved this by squeezing in four wall anchors between the metal box and joist so the screw had something to bite into.

In my opinion the grate needs to be a 1/2 wider on all four sides to accommodate 16″ center joists. You may want to consider the Wi-Fi smart control box for this fan. I saved myself a lot of time and hassle not having to run wires down the wall to a manual switch and timer.

Now I control everything from my phone which I love. I also put the app on my wife’s phone so she can use it. Just a tip: The damper box was a little tight fitting in the hole and I made the mistake of forcing it down flush with the drywall causing a large crack in the drywall on two corners, so don’t press down too hard unless you like patching drywall.

The QuietCool Whole House Fan was impressive from the time I first opened the shipping box. The packaging was superior to insure that everything arrived in one piece. Once I read through the step by step self installation instructions, I knew that I made the right decision on which manufacturer to choose for a fan.

Myself and a friend installed the fan on a Saturday morning. This was my first installation of a fan and my friends 3rd. He was impressed, as was I, how well engineered the fans was and how exact every dimension was.

After cutting a whole in the ceiling we were ready to pass all of the parts through the opening. We began by saying no way will the fan and ducting fit through the small opening. They all did! Who ever designed and finalized the production of this fan system is a genius.

My installation required running wire for the fan timer and high low switch. Total installation time was a little over 3 hours. The combination written instructions and photos were easy to follow and understand.

The big moment came and we turned on the power and then the fan. I have a two story home and the fan inlet was positioned at the top of the stairway ceiling. My friend and I stood directly under the inlet and could not believe how quiet the unit was at both low and high speeds.

The unit is quieter than my air-conditioning when it is running. This product is worth every penny I paid for it and I am more that happy with the ease of installation and efficiency. For once, I’m looking forward the the upcoming hot weather.

With just a little maintenance you can expect to be using this for two generations. It has clear instructions, is lightweight (compared to the older ones), includes a good motor and blades, is easy to install and wire and is a good size for a house under 1500 sq ft that has a few windows for cross venting and adequate attic venting.

We have a ridge vent and two, passive, side, attic vents and open about 4 standard windows and it has a powerful circulation. When the outside temperatures get under 77 degrees it feels under 70 degrees inside.

We use it most of the year in Texas except when temps crawl above 80 degrees for the low at night. I have bought several Air Vent products and highly recommend them.

There are not a lot of choices in whole house fans and this one is, IMHO, the best of a so-so field of choices. The fan blade shaft is well mounted on a pair of heavy pillow block bearings and the motor mounting is relatively easy to adjust for belt tension.

It certainly blows up a storm of air but the motor seems undersized for the job. If you don’t watch your installation and make sure there is plenty of airflow, the motor will overheat and the internal thermal circuit breaker will trip.

That makes it safe but. it isn’t blowing any air! We probably are a bit shy on attic vent area and we had to pin the inlet damper open so it would run continuously on the low setting. It does have a 10 year warranty which is good.

We’ll see over the long run and I definitely have to something about the dampers. As I said – probably the best of a bad set of choices!.

I searched high and low to find the best whole house fan for the money and feel fortunate to have found this one. I ordered it online to be delivered to the closest ACE hardware store, where the service was superb.

It was delivered in 3 days and they called to advise of its arrive and even carried it to my car for me. I had this product installed in the hallway of my 2,000 sq ft home by my handyman. He said it was easy to install and it is super quiet to run.

Am looking forward to the hot weather this summer just so I can use it ! Am looking forward to the savings on my electric bills, while I cool out a hot house with cool evening air before I go to sleep.

I live in a 70s era 2000sq ft house in Northern California. The upstairs gets pretty warm in the summer. We have added insulation, ran new ducts, but nothing worked to keep it comfy upstairs. This fan draws in cool night air and quickly reduces the temp.

The high is slightly louder than I would tolerate to sleep with it on high. Low seems to be quiet enough. The tape holding the duct on the fan did come off in the first week, causing me to have to retape it.

Overall it seems to be built well.

This is the fourth whole house fan I have purchased and installed in the homes Ive owned. All the rest of the fans have required cutting rafters in the ceiling and were annoyingly loud! The quiet cool 4700 intake fit between the rafters and no cutting of the rafters was required or needed.

The installation was simple and easy. Purchased and installed the wireless switch with the fan so I didnt have to run any wires down a wall. I was able to power the fan from the furnace outlet already in my attic.

The fan is unbelievably quiet. You can be in the same room as the intake and barely hear the fan when its on high!.

My husband and i are old (70 and 60), and we were able to install this thing by ourselves, though it is heavy, and it is difficult to lift it above your head into the attic. We did have an electrician come do the wiring, but, it comes with a cord and a plug, so we were able to connect it to a wall outlet and use it for the couple of weeks it took for the electrician to come.

without a switch, it just runs on high, but that’s what you’re most likely to use in the summer anyway. it’s very quiet – no noisy vent rattle, like a lot of fans have, and because the fan is farther back in the attic, with tubing leading to the ceiling vent, the noise is farther away, and really mild.

when it’s on low, it’s barely noticeable at all. we love it, and highly recommend it. please note, though, that once we bought it, we were not able to find anyone to install it for us. as i said, we were able to do it ourselves.

all you have to do is get it up there, cut a hole the right size, put the flange in the hole, attach the tube to the flange, then point the fan toward a vent. if your attic has a lot of space, you should hang the tubing from the ceiling, but in our case, it just sits up there.

Very good product. Solid design and easy install. It took me 5 hours start to finish with a drive to the hardware store and eating dinner. Fan has a soft start and is very quiet on low speed setting.

On High speed setting, you can hear the fan but it turns into white noise after a few minutes. Looking forward to the next cool night to run the fan and see how it does, as it’s been warm and humid lately.

The only difficulty I ran into was the location of the gang box for electrical connections on the fan and the strapping to support the motor. Due to the locations, when the fan was hung, one strap was tight to the cover plate, making it inaccessible with both straps secured to the rafter support (2×4).

I had to undo one strap and have the motor hang while I made the electrical connections, close the cover plate, then secure the second strap. It was a minor setback in time and effort, but would be a hassle if any rewiring was required.

Be sure to plan your location for the fan well in the home to develop your paths of flow, floor to floor or across floor. I wired on a timer switch and high low speed switch in a 3 gang box, joining an existing light switch.

Other than the switches, new gang, wire, wire nuts, and the 2×4 to mount the motor to, the kit came with everything you need other than tools. I searched and researched for several weeks for a fan for my home, and this fan made it worth the wait.

A lot of good to say about this. It is quiet at the high speed setting and even more quiet at the low speed setting. The fan is high quality however as you see its expensive. I had to remind myself of how it was going to pay itself off.

The packaging it arrived in did its job and ensured no damage to the product. On to the installation. To start I’m not an electrician or contractor but my skillset is above average. It took me and my 12yr old son a weekend to install this and as part of my poor decision process we installed it during the heat of summer.

The installation instructions were spot on and I had no issues but be sure to follow the wiring instructions. Also before you begin go into your attic and determine where you’re going to place it. I had only one location where I could place it and lucky for me it worked out well.

A few things I think could be improved upon are the ease of removing the flanges from the duct box, having some pre-drilled holes in the duct box where the ducting attaches to it and its also secured with sheet metal screws.

It would had made life a little easier if I’d known to pre-drill those holes before I was up in the attic trying to do that. The template for the air intake grill was good but I still had to make some minor adjustments when cutting the hole in the ceiling.

Lastly I wish there was an option to adjust the length of the ducting, due to my install area limitations I could have used a shorter length of ducting. Bottom line is this works great as long as its cool enough outside to run it.

I had to wait three weeks after my install to be able to use it since it was still in the mid to high 80’s at night here in SoCal. I installed a Hi/Low switch and a timer for my unit. This is the first month I’ve used it every night so I’m excited to see how much I’ve saved this month on electricity.

I installed this fan myself in our attic. I was easy to do except for the small space in our attic. The video of the install on the manufacturers site makes it seem easier then it is because of the space the video is shot in.

My attic is very small, I cannot stand up in it. Having said that, it is pretty straight forward to install and works fantastic. We also used the wireless switch which made the install much much easier.

I wired the switch and paired the remote before I took the fan into the attic. I recommend that you do this before crawling up there. Confirm everything works before crawling up there with a fairly heavy fan and giant ducting.

I did this alone, if you can get an extra set of hands to help I would recommend that. It can be done alone though, it is just a little be harder physically. Compared to the old style whole house fans this one is extremely quiet.

It has been installed for a couple of weeks now and is working perfectly so far.

Easy installation. If you have power to your attic and enough ventilation in your attic, do your home work on that. I went with the WIFI controller, a little extra but well worth it. Really plug and play.

Make sure you install the controller before you get in the attic. Much easier. This thing works like a charm. Pretty quiet unless your standing under the vent then not that loud. In other room you barely hear it.

I air sealed my attic before adding add the fan then new insulation a little more work and money but well worth it. Definitely a good move for us living in SoCal 1 1/2 miles from the beach ideal location no real need for air conditioning now.

Should have installed it years ago.

I’m an HVAC business owner in Denver Colorado. I’ve installed several brands of whole house fans over the years. I installed one of these fans for a client and I’ll never offer any other brand from here on out.

Install is a breeze. From the technician side, they’ve thought about us. From the user side, they’ve covered all the bases as well. If you’re working by yourself it can be a bit cumbersome wrangling this giant snake up into the attic and into position.

But you don’t go into HVAC because you’re afraid of breaking a nail. Awesome product. Solid and quiet.

The fan functions as advertised. 1600sf two-story home and the fan pulls in air very very well on exhaust and intake settings. Installed upstairs and it even pulls in air from downstairs kitchen patio door, living room windows and den window on low power.

Noise level on low is as low as most any fan of this size. Medium and high can get extremely loud, nearly as loud as a very small bi-plane. The fan moves more than enough air on low for my needs so medium and high noise is of no concern to me.

Easy to install. I bought a piece of foam to wedge between the window and the fan gap to further stabilize the fan to eliminate squeaks. I just remove the small piece of foam and close the window when the fan is not in use.

I left enough of a gap between the fan and window so that my shade can still be drawn normally. I am very pleased with this fan.

This is a pretty good product. It’s a fan, so not terribly noisy, but you wouldn’t want it in your home office window. It does move a tremendous amount of air. This is a valid, whole-house fan, with ease of installation it’s main advantage over one in the attic.

I had been looking for one to install up there, but didn’t relish the idea of crawling around up there at 65. This is an alternative that works very well. So far it’s lived up to it’s promise. I highly recommend.

This is quiet compared to other fans its size, but really isn’t quiet. It’s just not very noisy. However, this fan creates great airflow in my 1300 sq ft home. I like that with just a turn of the dial, you can go from exhaust to bringing air in.

No removing and flipping the fan in the window. It is a solid fan, weighing in about 35 lbs. And it is powerful. Frankly, it’s a great value. The fan is phenomenal.

This is my second QC whole house fan. The last one I got was an 8400 – and it seemed oversized for that home. The new home is a bit bigger and our attic space more constrained, so instead of a dual fan, we went with this one.

The fan does a very good job of cooling rooms around the house a solid 15 degrees on days when we have cooler air outside, which is often, than inside under an asphalt roof in a not-well-insulated 100 year old house.

The only thing I’d change would be for it to have medium speed instead of just low and high – but I suppose I could have bought a different model for that:) Great fan!.

Just bought and installed the Quiet Cool es-5400 with the wireless remote. Its good if you know some construction know how as this project took about four or five hours with two people. We had an issue as the joists opening was just a tad over 14.

25 inches and the base was hard to put on. To solve that problem we hammered in a 2 x 4 cut to 14. 5 inches and voila, it fit like a glove. Another thing to keep in mind is that if take the duct off to make the duct and fan fit through your opening, then you will need the silver tape with paper backing to put it back together.

Special tape they use on air conditioning ducts. And you will have to put an outlet in your attic for power. I got good customer service live over the phone with Quiet Cool on a few minor issues. Now comes the best part.

When I turned on the fan with my remote and partially opened a kitchen window, you would not believe the breeze through the house. Just remember early morning or late afternoon, as the temperature outside is cooler.

I would recommend this 100 percent. Oh by the way I bought this at the end of April and it was on sale for $949. So with the wireless remote and tax came out to under$1200. I figure it will pay for itself within a year easily.

I will start off by saying I really like my new whole house fan. I do, however, wish thy can make several changes to make a good product great. My biggest complaint is the screws included to attach the ducting to the damper box and fan housing.

The ones included are just basic screws and without having predeilled holes, are quite difficult to install. To save some headache, but a pack of self tapping sheet metal screws from the hardware store when you buy your wire and switches.

And that brings me to the second problem, no controls are included. I purchased a simple three way switch, timer and remodel box from a local hardware store and online shop for about $25 combined. For the price charged, you think they can include a very basic control setup.

My biggest gripe would have to be the fit of all the components. While the ducting, fan housing and damper box is very tight, the template and grille do not fit properly. As stated in another review, the grille should be 16 between the screw holes instead of 14.

5. It makes hitting anything supportive with the screws next to impossible. I dont have 16 spacing on my rafters so I wasnt able to screw the grille into them, and unfortunately even if you have 16 spacing, you wont either.

If you have 24 rafters like I do, dont remove the two long flanges on the damper box, only remove one to push the box against a rafters and screw them together. Wiring was easy and the diagrams were easy enough to understand.

Just buy the biggest 2 gang old work box and check your spacing from studs and fire breaks in the walls. Overall it took me about three or four hours to complete the install and clean up. I had to get up into the attic several times because I forgot something or felt a different tool would help, but am glad I took the time to do it myself.

I ran it on low overnight and had my house drop down to the point of being waaaayyyy too cold. On high, you better have a lot of windows and doors open. As far as noise, I have 11 ceilings and can barely hear it on low when its about 15 away and there is nothing in the way.

On high it is louder, but not any worse than a range hood on high. I would recommend this fan for houses around 2000 sqft and would recommend a whole house fan to everyone. I cant wait until summer comes to see how well it reduces my dependency on AC.

Great purchase. Our house is approximately 1500 sq. Ft. And I the ordered the 1400 cfm model. I chose this based on cost and old rule of thumb residential HVAC sizing for Ca. (500 sq. Ft. Per ton & 400 cfm per ton), so the 1400 model gives approx 200 more cfm then the furnace blower motor which for us provides a good amount of air flow (exhaust).

Self installed (career tradesmen). As long as you are fairly handy and have an available receptacle relatively close to the installation location the power cord will plug right in. I recommend a wall switch or other simple controls, this will make it ideal for optimum use (but you can just plug it in – do not use an extension cord).

However if you arent comfortable climbing around your attic, cutting a perfect square hole in your sheet rock ceiling and securing it all properly to your truss system or rafters I recommend a professional installation.

We have been using it nightly for 2 weeks now (anytime the outside air is a few degrees cooler than inside) and it does a great job. It is a great energy saver ESPECIALLY for any Southern Cal. Power customer whos peak rate has changed to 5:00pm (most expensive time) for time of use customers.

It does come complete with a back draft damper and is IS very quiet. I looked into building my own but at the end of the day the savings just didnt pencil out. I highly recommend it! One thing to consider is if you have seasonal allergies (pollen etc) the air you are circulating is 100% outside air and is unfiltered so a point of use air purifier or hepa filtration fan might be a good idea.

Synopsis; get one its worth it.

This is the second QC whole house fan we have purchased. It will go in the guest house we are building. The first is installed in our master bedroom. It is quiet enough that it doesn’t disturb our sleep and moves enough air to significantly lower our AC usage during the late fall and early spring.

We live in the Southern California desert so s whole house fan isn’t needed in the winter and during the summer it never gets cool enough at night to use it. I did the installation myself and I have only basic knowledge of electrical wiring and construction.

We highly recommend QC products.

This was a company purchase for a customer of ours. We needed a fan for a smaller attic and this was the best one we found. I was glad as to how quickly it shipped, was packed and my installer was impressed how it assembled, installed and that all the necessary parts were with the package.

We will be purchasing this type unit when needed again.

I installed the ES-6000 in my 2700sq/ft 1. 5 story home. I did the installation myself but it would have been much easier with a second pair of hands. When you cut the hole in the drywall, cut as close to the template as you can.

I found that I made the hole slightly too big, by cutting outside my traced line. It caused me some grief near the end of the installation. Hoisting the fan and duct through the hole wasn’t too bad, but I had to tie rope around the duct to keep it shrunk down enough to fit it through in one pass.

A second pair of hands would’ve allowed me to “feed” it through the hole, which may have been easier. I bought the WiFi module, and wiring was very simple. I added a wire to the yellow motor wire so that I could use the medium speed, and I’m glad I did.

Medium is the speed we run the fan at almost all the time. In my setup, low is almost silent but is only effective when a couple windows are open. Medium is still very quiet but it allows many more windows to be open and still feel the air flow.

High is too extreme for long-term use, in my opinion. The fan noise is louder, and the air whistles slightly as it goes through the grate/grille at the ceiling. It’s great for quick cool downs, but I wouldn’t run it on high for hours.

I have 24″ spacing between my rafters, so I butted the damper box up against only one of them. Be sure to place the damper box screws as close to the edge of the drywall (nearest the damper box) as possible.

I placed one of my screws about 1/2″ away from the edge, and the grille doesn’t cover it entirely. This is where I realized that I made the ceiling hole slightly too large (maybe 1/4″). The grille screws bite nicely into the damper box on 3 sides, but there is very little for them to bite into on the side where it butts against the stud (because I had to cheat the grille to the other side to attempt to cover the screw that was spaced too far away from the damper box).

The installation instructions don’t give you any indication as to how far you should space the screws from the edge of the drywall. I assumed the grille was larger than it was, and now I have about 1/3 of a screw head visible on one side of the grille after the installation.

I actually called support because I thought they sent me the wrong grille (they didn’t). It has about 1/2″ of “slop” on each side of the damper box, and if it had been 1/2″ larger it would’ve covered my hole.

If you live in a very hot or very cold climate, you might want to look for something with more R value in the damper box. This damper box is only R-5, and while they offer a winter insulation kit it doesn’t allow you to use the fan when it’s installed.

On a relatively hot (90F) day, my attic measured about 115F and I measured about 90F on the interior side of the damper box (fan off). The rest of my ceiling measured about 76F. I wouldn’t expect much better from R-5 insulation, but it would be really nice if the damper box had a higher R value.

You can feel the radiant heat from the damper box on a hot day when the fan isn’t running. Overall, I’m very happy with the fan. I wish I had installed it years ago.

So far I am pleased with the quality of the fan, the ducting and the thoughtfulness of parts included that are needed. I must say, the remote is a bit archaic and lower (poor) quality. When you pull the cover off to install the batteries the entire circuit board and battery contacts want to jump out at you.

It does not do the rest of the system or QuietCool justice. I did notice, on the first uninstalled test it rattles a bit on high. I will check to see if anything is loose. The metals bands are not making the noise.

I will give another report when installed.

I absolutely love this fan. It makes our house so much more comfortable. Can not see myself living without one of these again. My only gripe is the lack of programmability of the remote. We live in a world where everything is connected and we can’t get a little more technology built into these to be able to program start, stop, run-times? I get the dangers of having fans like this run without proper airflow, but still, I’d be really nice.

Upstairs vaulted ceiling bedroom was not getting cool enough. I was going to install a typical whole house attic fan, but needed something where I could mount the opening on the Wall rather than the ceiling.

So I decided on QuietCool and very happy with my selection. Installation was not difficult. The instructions for installing the Vertical Adapter was not clear and incorrect at some points. Even though there was a video, details were lacking.

However a good mechanical person can figure it out. I also used foil tape to seal the Vertical Adapter to the standard QuietCool Ceiling Box, which worked very well. The Vertical Adapter did not come with any sheet metal screws, so make sure you have some on hand.

I disconnected the standard power plug and installed a High/Lo/Off Switch from QuietCool. The installation instruction were clear and it worked perfectly. The unit is much quieter than I expected at low and high speeds, especially compared to a typical whole house attic fan.

My space only required a CL-2250, but I decided to go one size larger just to make sure. I was very happy with my decision, but maybe should have gone two sizes larger and use the low switch more often.

Do not be afraid to oversize.

I ordered it from e-comfort on a Monday and received it on Friday. I thought that was quick shipping, considering it’s free. Installation was pretty easy, but keep in mind you want to do this job early morning before the attic heats up.

Screwing the grill on is tricky because you will need to drill pilot holes on the flange of the louvre. That took two of us to complete. One guy in the attic holding the louvre down while the other guy drills the pilot holes.

All in all it took me about 4 hours to have it up and running. It moves air pretty well. I would recommend it to my friends even though it’s a bit pricey. Also, the switch and timer in the picture are not manufactured by quiet cool and you do not get a switch plate with the timer and switch that has quiet cool on it.

That’s a bit deceiving.

This is the second QuietCool fan that we’ve installed. The installation takes some time but is definitely worth it. The distance between the ceiling inlet and the fan muffles the noise suspending the fan and motor from the rafters eliminates any vibration.

Our central air conditioner is running about three hours a day now versus six to eight hours previously in mid-90’s to 100 degree weather. The trick is to run the QuietCool at night and early morning after the temperature difference between inside and outside is at least five degrees Fahrenheit.

One caution regarding the installation instructions: If you order a two-speed fan, use the instructions with caution. The 14-2 AWG wire extends from the power source to the timer and the 14-3 AWG wire from the two-speed switch to the fan motor.

The instructions have it reversed.

The fan works very well in pulling the cool air into my house and exhausting it through the attic. It works just as planned. It is very quiet on high speed. I have only used high speed so far because it turns the air in my house over very fast.

I have only used the product a couple of times, so far very happy with it’s performance.

Box was in rough shape, and I was a little concerned at first, as it appeared it may have been used once. But after installing it, was more than satisfied with it, and happy I went with an opened box version, for the added savings on the price.

Moves plenty of air, and unlike what I read in other reviews, I did not find it to be noisy compared to any other fan I have owned. If you have larger than 27″ windows, you may want to leave the “knock out” pieces of the shroud in place at first and try it like that.

You can always take them out, but cant put them back in after.

This is a great fan if you rent and can’t install an attic fan. This moves a TON of air and what makes it better than attic fan is you can reverse at night if it’s in your bedroom and have it blow a huge about of fresh air on you all night.

I live in northeast and it brutality hot and I haven’t used my air conditioner yet because of how well this works. I found them for $150. 00 I might pay a little more for another one. That’s right this is so good I’m looking to buy another one.

I purchased this to install in my second floor hallway. I was impressed with the packaging of the product, but I am concerned of the longevity. After cutting the hole in the ceiling for the box and cover, I noticed some rattling–the riveted hinge of the baffle had come undone.

I tried to re-rivet it to no avail. I have sent an email to support, but have not heard back yet. Phone support is unavailable. I am also very surprised at the way the controller display is wired up.

For something that is supposed to go in a visible location such as the upstairs hallway, I do not like that you have to connect the wires visibly to the bottom of the controller unit. AC infinity can do better.

The shipping was free and fast. The fan seems well built, and is pretty quiet. We haven’t had any really hot temperatures yet but tried it out a few times. Does not move a huge amount of air and took a bit longer than hoped to reduce the inside temp.

So higher temps will be the true test.

I have installed many whole house fans in the past. This has to be the best one. The quality is good and easy to install. The only negative would be the instillation of the controller. It would be nice to have a wall kit so you can install it in the house.

We don’t have A/C here in Northern Idaho and it gets extremely hot up here in June, July and August. However, no matter how hot it gets in the daytime it cools to the 50’s and 60’s at night. I wanted to take advantage of the cool night air so I Googled “extremely powerful window fan” and the Air King 9166 appeared on my tablet.

I read the reviews and watched the videos and had read that Venting Direct had great service and easy returns if I didn’t like the product. So, I ordered the Air King late one Friday night and Monday afternoon it was sitting inside my gates waiting for me, plus the shipping was free! I picked it up to put it in the truck and realized this is not some cheap plastic fan from Walmart, it’s all metal, it’s heavy and it is all business.

I took it in the house and opened the box, this beast is all assembled except for the storm guard panels. There are 2 options to install it, inside the window or on the window sill. It is VERY important that you measure your window before you order it and pay attention to the measurements listed on the product.

I had already measured my window and opted for window sill installation before I ever ordered it, so be prepared for how you want to install it. 15 minutes later I was ready to fire it up. I mentioned before, this is serious equipment, it is a large metal fan and it makes noise.

I cracked all the windows and turned it on high exhaust. Holy heck! I had forgot to move the curtains all the way over and they were standing straight out from the air flow, no joke. In 5 minutes it had cleared all the hot stale air out of the house.

I then turned it over to high intake and in an hour we were sitting here freezing, had to turn it off! Mission accomplished, turns out I only run it from about 7:00pm to 11pm because it absolutely freezes us out.

Of course depending on where you live, layout of your home and proper placement of the fan, results will vary. I can tell you there are several keys to making this happen. Make sure you place the fan in a large common room so it can push or pull the maximize amount of air through the home.

This is not a bedroom fan, it’s big, powerful and loud. Also I found once it’s installed I used some window insulation to cover the holes in the storm guards and between the fan and the window, this helps dramatically.

It is also very important to not use the fan without another window in the house being at least cracked open. It pulls/pushes air so forcefully it struggles without having somewhere to push or pull the air to.

I would imagine it would burn out quickly if you don’t give it air flow. In closing, this thing is a brute and is not some little quiet fan, it flat out gets after it! It’s a great product and highly recommended it.

We love our whole house fan. We picked this one because it was the energy efficient model and knew we would use it frequently (we had one in a previous house and used it all the time). One thing to note is that the high setting is VERY loud.

We usually use the low setting because it has sufficient draw, but when we have used the high setting, you can hear the fan running outside of the house. The fan was easy to install and has already saved us from having to run the AC on some hot Southern California days.

We purchased the remote control option, which saved us from having to call an electrician to wire up the switch. We definitely needed two people to install and had to go up through the attic access (not through the hole you cut in the ceiling, as shown in the install video) because the fan ducting is very large.

I wish this had a medium setting because of the noise (and that occasionally we might want a stronger draw thats not as high as the high setting), but we are happy with our purchase. Fast shipping (arrived in two days direct from manufacturer).
