20 Best Wifi Dvd Player (2022 Updated)

I had a Sony DVD player which was 15 years old and decided it was time to upgrade to something more modern. The initial set up was straight forward, or so it seemed. However, the sound was still coming through the tv even though an Audio Quest co-axial connector linked the player to my Marantz amp, along with an ordinary HDMI lead to the telly.

Thinking there was a fault I went back to the Leicester store, was prepared to swap it for something else and pay the price difference. Having explained the problem I was experiencing, James immediately recognised what I hadn’t done.

He set it up, to demonstrate what needed doing, and showed me that I hadn’t adjusted the digital audio output, on audio settings, to PCM. Having made the adjustment, he said everything should be fine.

It certainly is. It’s now wired up to the amp and I invested in an Audio Quest HDMI lead to connect it to the tv. It now works a treat. The sound through my QAcoustics speakers is fabulous and there’s an improvement on the picture quality with older DVD’s.

The more recent ones also look a lot better. For many years Richer Sounds in Leicester has been my go to store for all things hi-fi, because staff are so knowledgeable and helpful. There was no need to pay for a more expensive player, because James solved the problem.

It was bought to replace an ageing DVD player that we use to play concert and opera videos in a music appreciation group. It does this superbly well and I expect it to work equally well with Blu-rays.

So 5 stars for that. The Wi-Fi facility was also very attractive as we also streamed internet performances via a laptop and I thought this would take its place. Unfortunately the Wi-Fi facility is limited to a very few apps, eg Youtube.

It doesn’t give access to general internet content. It does offer access to a potentially useful site or two with its built-in apps, eg in our case the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, but this requires users to register and there’s no way that I have found that lets me do this.

So a grudging 1 star for this facility.

I spoke to Dave twice last week; knew exactly what I was looking for and recommended this Sony player. Made everything this so simple. This Sony BDPS3700 is a super little blu-ray/dvd player which also plays dvd’s from other regions (just what I needed) the box is about 10″ x 10″ very light.

Also easy to set up (had to buy an HDMI cable as well as not supplied) I’m not using the online connection (haven’t investigated that yet!) The remote not so robust (have found that with several good brand goods) Only a week in and have only used twice but I’m content with it thus far.

This is my first Blue-Ray player purchase. The Sony BDP-BX370 Blue-ray Disc/DVD Player comes with an HDMI cable, power supply, remote, and batteries and makes the setup process easy. If you have Wi-Fi, setup includes being allowed to access your network for the purpose of streaming.

Make sure that you have your password handy because you will need it. Although the player has limited pre-loaded apps and, even though I haven’t tried it yet, there is an option for downloading additional apps.

My purpose is to review this particular product, and also attempt to clear up some hype about Full HD DVD, burning, and playing on Blue-ray players that seems to be circulating, with hopes in helping you select the RIGHT product when it comes to viewing Full HD DVDs.

Full HD DVDs CAN be burned using a regular DVD player and regular DVD disks, but, with proper (and inexpensive) software, can ONLY be played on Blue-ray players, such as this one, with excellent results when properly formatted using AVCHD software.

In adhering to the review guidelines, I can not mention the software that I used, but it IS available and it WORKS. A little time and effort in research is all that is required online. Just keep your burner and download the software.

I do own a camera that is capable of capturing video in Full HD. I shot some video clips of one of my grandson’s baseball games this past summer. Even though the video files were captured in Full HD (1920 * 1080), normal DVD burning software will only burn it in SD.

When it comes to watching Full HD, the difference in the playing quality between a DVD player and Blu-ray is remarkable and was definitely worth the purchase price. Unless you are wanting more features than what this one provides, I don’t think you can go wrong with this one.

A basic plug and play device that serves my purpose easily.

Not only is this the first Blu-ray disk player that I have owned, it is actually the first opportunity I have had to view a movie from a Blu-ray disk. Ever. And for anyone out there who is considering the purchase of a Blu-ray player, the difference is astounding.

Prices are dropping on HD 1080P players now that a new breed of 4K ULTRA HD Blu-ray players is out on the market. And that’s great for a well-established player like this one. The image quality I have experienced is truly amazing (the processing of the Universal logo alone is stunning – and everything that followed exceeded that).

The accompanying literature claims that standard definition DVDs are upscaled to improve their resolution, but my TV does that as well so I can’t really determine how well that works here. This is a very compact little unit (less than 9″ wide).

It plays Blu-ray and standard and burned DVDs (yes, the +’s, the -‘s, and the RW’s), commercial and burned CDs, and can play a huge number of video and music files (from disk or from USB input on the back of the unit).

It can also understand JPEG, PNG, GIF, and BMP photo files. Every format that I tested was processed beautifully. Personal note: Blu-ray DVDs with a menu are, I guess, interactive DVDs and take a long time to initialize.

Full access time for me here was close to 20 seconds. I thought this was a crazy long time, but it turns out that this is actually a pretty impressive access time. This unit is Wi-Fi enabled which means you can access some streaming content like YouTube and Netflix, although I’m not sure who would benefit from this.

There is screen mirroring available for Xperia devices (not my smartphone). I have only two complaints: (1) the remote control is arguably the most unintuitive remote I have ever owned – I am convinced that some of the buttons just do nothing at all, & (2) the user interface is really confusing and poorly designed (at least from the point of view of someone who is really just wanting disk content).

Sony should be capable of so much better. Check your box carefully to see if your model comes with an HDMI cable or not – the BDP-S3700 does not include a cable – the BDP-BX370 includes a cable. There is no good reason that a new Blu-ray player should not include a HDMI cable.

But for size and performance, this is clearly a five-star player.

I purchased this item in July, I was looking for just a cheap basic DVD player intended so I can watch movies. It worked fine when I got, nothing fancy. The picture was a bit blurry but I’m not sure if that was the dvd quality or the player or the tv.

I haven’t used the unit in a couple months and went to watch a DVD the other day and I could see the picture but there was no sound. I thought maybe it was the DVD so I swapped it out for another one still nothing.

I thought maybe one of the wires got loose so I pulled out the dresser and checked all the cables everything is connected snuggly. The TV has sound when I use other inputs and watching regular TV so I’m thinking it has to be the DVD unit unless I missed something.

I will contact Best Buy to see if they can help and will update this post afterwards but it is honestly not worth the money. I purchased this with a gift card so only paid $25 but had I paid full price I would have been very disappointed the plastic feels very cheap and light and the images on the menu look like it’s from the 80s/90s.

Worst quality Sony product I’ve ever bought. Save your money and buy something better quality.

Claims to have Progressive Scan; but any slight (and I mean slight!) blemish on the DVD led to this thing immediately freezing up and refusing to play at all, requiring a restart just to eject the disc.

To ensure there’s no misunderstanding about the slightness of the blemishes here: The DVDs were bought new and watched a maximum of 3-4 times (not rentals or former rentals). And when visually inspected, it required a thorough hunt just to find the pathetically small surface scratch which was causing the problem!.

As in, no deep gouges/scratches and no scratches in multitude or any significant number. Usually, just one, tiny, minuscule, seemingly insignificant surface scratch — Yet this piece of crap not only couldn’t read past it and continue playing; but couldn’t even find it’s way past the fault through manual searching (i.

e. , trying to play the next or any latter available episode contained on the disc)! Absolute Garbage — Returned Immediately. [Oh, and the push-buttons on the unit itself are EXTREMELY hard to push — you have to grip it from underneath when trying to push any of them, just to ensure it registers the fact that you are pushing the frikkin’ button!].

Did not realize that this doesn’t have a HDMI port. When I left the store I ask associate what I needed to make this work, she sold me a HDMI cable which I didn’t need. I purchased this without really checking it out.

Recycled box to soon! I live an hour away from closest Best Buy so I didn’t get to return it. Instructions were very inadequate so I have a unit that doesn’t work. Not very happy with this purchase. Partly my fault for not paying attention to detail.

The BDP-S6700 is a very good upscaler to your 4K tv, but with a bit of a catch. The picture quality is on par with an actual 4K player. It has some okay app selection not the best, but in all honesty apps on a bluray player isnt necessary especially if you have a 4K tv, which most units ship with a crazy amount of apps anyway.

So the downside is, if you have a Dolby Atmos reciever like I do, you will have to turn off the 24p mode for video playback in 4K upscale in the Screen Settings menu, which makes it play in regular 1080pHD.

But the plus side of this, they do have a function called SBM, set it to on, that way you won’t get pixelization from movement on your 4K tv, it smooths the motion on the video. I’ve noticed that issue on my regular bluray player, it would have pixelated ghosting if you when comnected to a 4K tv, especially during fast movement.

Summary This unit is definitely worth the money especially the lack of content on 4K UHD discs, this unit allows you to watch your current collection without having to upgrade to UHD bluray. Its roughly half the price from an actual 4K UHD player.

Aside from the little gripes mentioned, its a great investment. Side note. Not all blurays are encoded with Dolby Atmos, so you will still be able to watch 90%+ of your collection in 4K mode. Hope this helps someone that doesnt want to break the bank but enjoy 4K playback with their current bluray collection.

First off, don’t be confused by the title. This is NOT a 4K player, it’s a standard Blu-ray player with a 4K algorithm. What the heck does that mean? It means that this player will play standard DVDs, and Blu-ray DVDs plus CDs too.

But it will not play 4K discs. What it will do it pretty cool though. If you have a 4K TV, and you play a Blu-ray disc (or even a standard DVD) it will use that 4K algorithm to fill in all the extra pixels on your TV will the correct colors and resolution, meaning that your discs, especially Blu-ray discs will look very, very close to as crisp, clear and vivid as 4K discs would look.

Think of it this way: Standard Blu-ray discs are high-definition; however 4K Blu-Ray discs are ultra-high-definition (about 4 times as many pixels) So, the algorithm in this player says, to make this look like 4K, I need to fill in a lot more pixels with information.

But what color/brightness etc. should I make those extra pixels? And then it interpolates, asking itself well, if this pixel, on someone’s face for example, is this color, hue, tint and saturation, then what should these other nearby pixels be? And then fills in those remaining pixels with the correct parameters.

The bottom line is, while it’s not true 4K, it looks make a standard Blu-ray disc look pretty much indistinguishable from true 4K, and it takes a standard DVD and makes it look a heckuva lot better.

I brought this Blu-ray player 10 days ago to replace an existing Blu-ray player from a different manufacturer that was starting to have issues reading DVDs and Blu-rays due to the slot loader. I decided it purchase this Sony Blu-ray player due to the excellent reviews that I had read online, the fact that it was a tray loader rather than a slot loader and also I currently have a Sony Bravia TV which I am still happy with after many years.

It also means that I can use the one remote to control both the TV and Blu-ray player. It also doesn’t take up as much room as my previous Blu-ray player. It was very easy to set up straight out of the box as I have it connected to the internet using an ethernet cable.

I haven’t had an chance to try out the Bluetooth or DLNA, however as mentioned in the review title it upscales DVDs with an excellent picture quality and sound. It also handles Blu-ray discs with excellent picture quality and sound.

The only reason why I have given this Blu-ray player an overall rating of 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the lack of apps. It doesn’t even have all the on-demand apps for the main public service broadcasters which is one let down.

Hopefully Sony will take note and add more on-demand apps, even if it is just for all the main public service broadcasters.

This is a used dvd player & by some standards some might already be considered old. I can’t imagine needing anything more. After owning several brands perhaps even Sony’s this one is by far the easiest ever to maneuver.

We’re seniors & not that we’re incapable of using electronic equipment but even when we were younger some were far more frustrating than fun to use. Within a few minutes we had this easily figured out.

The only mistake I made was in ordering a remote replacement. If you want to set the codes to get the multi region working you need one with numbers on it. I don’t understand why they call it a multi region player when it is not pre factory set.

That is why I give it 4 not 5 stars. I still do not know if that feature works I have to purchase another remote first.

I bought this player solely so I could watch Blu-ray discs in my living room, but now I find myself using it as my go-to device for all my video entertainment. Setup was a breeze; just connect everything and go through a quick, intuitive setup wizard.

The OS is reliable and responsive. The device hold its wi-fi connection without issue, despite the fact that it is 30+ feet from the router, which is in a different room. Video/audio quality are great – just what you would expect from an HD device.

The video/music app selection is robust and varied, and getting signed in to the apps for which I have an account was not overly cumbersome. But the BEST feature about this player is one I didn’t know about ahead of time.

Powering on/off the player automatically switches the input on my TV. For example, if I have the cable input selected because I’m watching live TV and then I turn on the player, the player switches the TV input to HDMI1.

The reverse is true too; turning off the player switches the TV input back to what it was previously. I am all about innovation that feeds my propensity for laziness, so this feature is perfect. One note – this feature doesn’t work with all HDMI cables.

I don’t know which model/type of HDMI cable is required to make this feature work; I just know it worked with one of my cables but not the other.

I think movie studios should take their DVD and Blu-ray Region codes and go. Uh, sorry. What I meant to say was. this is a GREAT player! I have purchased favorite movies on discs from the U. K. , Japan, Australia, and Germany and this player played ALL of them with NO problems! I honestly can’t fathom all of the cry-babies out there whining about their favorite movies being Region-locked.

Just buy this player from BomBayElectronics and all of your problems are solved! Unbox the player, plug it in, update the firmware, and play your discs. That’s it! They even sell 4K and 3D movie players.

Bought this to replace another new blu-ray purchased from another online retailer. That one was fine, but it wouldnt open the disc drawer. At all. No complaint with the service from the supplier or the manufacturer.

Its just one of those things, but I wasnt going to go back for to the same place for another opportunity to have the same experience. This Sony is the better of the two though, so it all turned out for the best.

I have yet to explore all of its features, but it plays the discs very nicely, the picture quality is good and the drawer always opens when you ask it to.

Excellent picture and works Great. No delay, no skips. And razor sharp, even in regular DVD. I thought I had a problem with skipping while playing Blu-Ray, but my Blu-Ray disc was just smudged. Once I cleaned the disc.

It ran perfectly. This will work fine for me in my RV. Even when I don’t have electricity and sometimes rely on 12 volt battery. I bought an extra remote since you can’t operate the player without one.

This BDP-3700 was chosen after some spec comparison and review reading. The initial unit was open box and worked well but the remote had been swapped out for one with leaking battery damage, so both were returned.

The second unit was new and worked perfectly. After a simple install the player was up and all focus turned to the remote button layout and GUI for user experience. I will say for the disk playing; it works well, the image and audio are excellent.

But the transport buttons on the remote are awkward and simple tasks like hitting pause take some effort to locate and perform. The buttons lacks tactile ID and they blend together. To compound this he main control buttons (Top Menu, Pop up Menu, Return, Options) seem to be mislabeled or at least don’t follow reason.

They can be learned but the remote could do with overall increased button spacing, better grouping and labeling. The Streaming controls like Netflix or Youtube work well but the latency is much longer than say a Roku interface.

The button press to response can take seconds. One nice feature that I do enjoy is when Youtube is paused, and you come back in several hours, your show is still cued up ready to play. On Roku a pause will timeout and you then have to navigate back to the show and where you left off.

I find it most convenient to keep both streaming controllers hooked up to make bouncing easier. Overall the player would get a 5 but the remote only a 3. But it’s compact and works, I’d buy it again.

Already gave you a review here. As I said before, I purchased one in January and within 30 days it kept losing connectivity with my modem when watching prime movies. I could watch the same movies in full on my iPhone through my modem with no problems.

Amazon replaced LG Blu-ray earlier this month and I’m experiencing the same problems with the replacement new product. My conclusion is that there is a problem with this model and I’m not looking for a replacement again, but I will not use or not purchase another LG in the future.

I advise LG Tech to redesign the unit and pay strict attention to the connectivity card quality. It is very frustrating to keep connecting and simply not worth it. CM and PM.

My old DVD/CD player didn’t have HDMI connections and my new LG TV only has HDMI ports so needed to buy new player. This linked up to my new LG 4K NANO CELL TV perfectly. I recommend reading/downloading’s the user manual first.

DVD has great picture with new TV also DVD & CDs sound great through my surround sound setup. I don’t have the Wi-Fi setup for the Apps because I have a Smart TV so it’s not needed (can’t rate that).

The Remote is small but there is also a Remote option via an App you can download if needed which is nice. I’ve only had this for about a month and don’t use often but so far I like this player and recommend especially if you have a new LG TV.

I purchased this player “open box. ” The first thing I noticed upon opening the box was that there was no remote. OOPS! I guess someone forgot to indicate that upon packaging it for resale. Fortunately I have it attached to an LG smart tv with a universal remote, so not a huge issue.

It plays Blu-Ray and DVD as any normal player should. I’m not using the streaming since I have all of those apps on my tv. I agree with others that things are very slow to load through the streaming if you try it.

The interface software is also exceedingly simple. Overall, a good enough player. It does its job.

I used to own a bluray player that’s able to play multi region code DVD, but sadly it did not last. Bought the new Sony bluray player, like it’s amazing compact size. However there’s not indication on timer on player, that’s perfectly fine as am able to activate on screen if need be time lapse of movie.

Most disappointing is the fact it only plays region 3 DVD. Come on, what era are we living that one needs to have code for specific region. People travel and there’s tendency to purchase discs from all over the world.

This could be the very reason that DVD discs popularity are declining compared to streaming due to such curbs. End up I got another Philips DVD player that truly plays multi region DVDs. I am sure there are lots of unhappy reviews written about the fact it only plays region 3 DVD and is not multi region, but Sony is not listening.

We own a few 4k TVs and a few older ones. I recommend this economic Blue-ray player if you are going to mostly play CDs, DVDs. I say this because the streaming apps are a little bit outdated and you can’t access Amazon, Spotify, Hulu and other now popular streaming services.

On the other hand, this Blue-ray player offers a great sound and video quality. It doesn’t have an actual wireless connection so you’ll need an HDMI cable which isn’t included. It is pretty fast at loading DVDs and Blu-ray Discs.

I noticed that setup and actual app connection is quite slow compared to other newer devices. I think this device is great for physical videos and not streaming. App loading speed needs to be improved as well as the possibility to add more new streaming apps.

So far so good. Plugged my hard drive in which is what I wanted for and so far no issues playing files. Or the NTFS hard drive. I have mkv. Mp4. Avi mostly. I didn’t turn on fast loaf as don’t really need it.

Goes we’ll with my Sony TV. I did notice one thing but all the time but overly loud either. Is when you pause a disc there is a sight humm it vibration now and again. I highly recommend so far. Set the media server up so it plays files from my computer.

Love that it has WiFi. And don’t need a cable to do so. No complaints yet.

The Sony BDPS5500 is a small unit with only the necessary output connections on the rear and a USB input on the front for watching your own videos. These can include downloads in many video formats that other equipment might not be able to decode.

The remote control works over long distances and from off to one side or another. It has a sensitive WiFi receiver built-in and receives the most wanted sites, including Netflix and YouTube plus Australia’s I-View and SBS on demand.

And HD videos will stream without a glitch, as long as your DSL is up to snuff. It delivers a beautiful and sharp picture from a BluRay, but also plays 3D BluRays – I’m hooked on 3D, It also plays DVDs and up converts them to HD (of course it can’t add details that aren’t there, but they look much better than from a DVD player), and it also plays your CDs with excellent fidelity.

It won’t play the latest 4k or UHD BluRays or process HDR, So if you have the very latest TV with those features, you will need to move up to a more expensive player.

Setup is dead easy for wireless, even the on-screen keyboard seemed intuitive. Wires networking and HDMI out were obviously no problem. The product encountered a problem during automatic software update, but had another go and made it, unlike other Sony products we’ve experienced.

Once done, it’s generally a pleasure to use. Playing discs is as straightforward as you’d expect, as are most of the apps, it even picked up on MythTV recordings from our PVR system, something that not all DLNA devices seem to manage, for some reason.

Miracast works a charm, as does YouTube remote play. There are a few UI issues, though. The TV SideView Android app is clearly not really designed for BluRay players. Whilst it does work, the appearance isn’t intuitive and you have to just through a few menu levels to get to something useful for this device.

In addition, the Opera TV store is somewhat annoying, having a new set of apps that can’t be favourited and don’t seem to have options for most streams.

If, like me, you’re old enough to remember radios that took a while to warm up and needed valves replacing regularly then devices like this seem like science fiction. Anyhoo. Bought this to replace a Samsung DVD player that died.

I checked the reviews and decided this would do nicely, mostly for the YouTube as our TV is dumb, and for the size – it’s tiny. Well it arrived quickly with just an address label on the Sony box so no wasteful packaging, it works, it’s quiet in operation, the YouTube app looks and sounds great.

I suppose I should buy some Blu-ray discs. Setup was easy, it prompted to download an update which worked fine. Feels a bit cheap – but it is cheap. And the remote has a Netflix button – presumably paid for by Netflix – which it is unlikely we will use.

A programmable button would have been better that takes me straight to the kitten videos on YouTube. Oh well.

It functions and plays both Blu-ray and DVD disks. Have LG TV it works great with and the TV remote and player remote both seem to work seemlessly letting me do stuff without needing two remotes most of the time.

Feel a little cheap and low end and I regret not getting a 4k player for $40-50 more which seem like it would have been a longer term value – but this meets the need. Paid full price which was at the time $79 – but I would only expect to pay about $50 for something of this size and build (plastic) quality.

Look for it on sale or refurbished and I think you will be happy with it – but at full price you might regret paying so much when you probably could have gotten a better 4k player for not much more.

Love the ability to use a usb stick to play videos and music, including. mp4 video which many blu ray players with this feature do not allow. The picture quality is amazing. The remote is sluggish to respond most times, and you often have to press the remote botton more than once for whatever function you are trying to operate for the player to finally respond.

The biggest drawback is, that I spent more and purchased this player for its wi-fi and Bluetooth ability. The wi-fi works great. But the Bluetooth is dead. It does not work. I went online to look for a fix, but instead, I found many other owners of this player with the same problem looking for a fix because, while other blu tooth devices do detect the Sony player, the Sony player does not detect Bluetooth speakers, Bluetooth headphones, or even cell phones.

And Sony has provided NO update of fix for this inexcuseable issue.

I really regret buying this and I dont really keep receipts. I really expected it to be worth the money but it absolutely was not. Not to mention I had to buy batteries for the remote and an HDMI cord.

So a HUGE waste of money. It is slow, the apps hardly work. I pay for the streaming services such as Netflix AND Amazon Prime, neither of which can stay streaming for very long and it keeps asking me to connect again meanwhile playing my app in the background.

Its just all kinds of a waste of product. My WiFi runs just fine so its definitely not my connection. This device is terrible I wish I could get my money back.

Pros: I’d small unobtrusive. Easy to use. Not sure if the variation in softness and loudness of sound is due to the device or the CD. I have the same problem with some programs on the recently purchased Smart TV.

Cons: Not sufficiently knowledgable on modern technology to comment. Practically, I find navigating around the search program a frustration and often give up because I can’t see what I’m doing properly from the sofa (12’ away) the letters and numbers are so small.

Basically, both devices do the job for me.

Pros: This DVD player is not big, like the old style ones that take up loads of room and need a heavy-duty shelf to sit in. It’s much smaller, lighter and cute and dinky in design. I love it! Plug in power, connect to dtv and up and running in seconds.

Decent standard remote, does what I want. Cons: Makes a little bit of a hum noise when playing but not enough to bother me, and it’s many other good points far outweigh this minor detraction. I wear Bluetooth over ear headphones so not really an issue.

Pros: Very neat compact unit. Bought this one to go with my LG TV. Excellent value for money. Both Blu Ray’s and Dvd’s play very well. Excellent – recommended. Cons: Cannot think of anything at the moment.

Got one of these refurbished for my parents to replace an old DVD player so they could finally ditch the analog connections going into the TV. Works great, upgrades via wired ethernet. I suppose lack of wifi could be considered a weak point, but it says right in the specs that that’s the case, and ours is right next to a network switch anyway.

Has a few other ‘apps’ for various online streaming services, which is nice, though I don’t know if they’ll use any of them. They already have an Amazon Fire TV stick for that sort of thing, which is a fair bit more versatile.

IMO, a Blu-ray player should play Blu-ray discs. The whole move towards incorporating ‘smart’-ness into TVs and disc players is kind of a waste as far as I’m concerned, since manufacturers suck at issuing updates, improving functionality or having a decent app library.

Leave the smart-ness to phones and computers, I say. Anyway, if you just want a basic Blu-ray player and don’t mind using a wired network for updates, I can’t imagine how this one would disappoint. If you want a device that can check your e-mail, switch off your porch light and flush your toilet, well, get something else.

Affordable, easy to set up and use, takes up very little space, and has multiple uses. Blu-ray, regular dvds, streaming, multiple formats etc. I have been wanting a player that could play movies on my television directly from a flashdrive, and this works beautifully.

WiFi is built in and took only seconds to set up. Other models probably do offer more streaming outlets, so if you’re looking for a wider array, research others before buying this one. This particular model suited my needs just fine.

One small caveat for me was that the WMV format was not supported. It was a very minor issue because formats can easily be converted, but the specs claimed that WMV was supported. Now all they need to do is add several digital tuners and turn this player into a recorder as well.

An all-in-one, stand-alone, subscription-free, Blu-Ray player-recorder with hard drive is long overdue in America. I used to be able to record and delete tv shows on my Panasonic hdd dvd recorder without having to rent a dvr or subscribe to TIVO.

This is my first Blu Ray player and so far it’s great! Plug it in, turn it on, and it guides you through steps to set it up – takes <5 minutes. The first thing I tried after initial set up was Netflix.

I signed in just fine, found something to watch, started it, it only loaded to 25% and stopped, would not go any further so I had to back out. Tried this with several other shows/movies on Netflix with same result.

So I went to turn off Netflix and return to home menu and just got a black screen. I had to unplug it then plug back in to get back to the home menu. When it came back on it said it needed to download an update.

I did that and ever since it has worked perfectly. Blu Ray function is just as expected. It makes my regular DVDs look great! Streaming is fast, no skips or buffering yet. Youtube streaming is awesome – I found that I can use the Youtube app on my iPhone to find what I want to watch, “send” it to the Blu Ray player, then turn my phone off! This is much easier than using the remote to “hunt and peck” the letters on the keyboard.

Two MINOR things I wish were available though. 1. a Netflix button on the remote. 2. Ability to rearrange the apps (Netflix, Youtube, Pandora, etc. ) along the bottom of the home menu -and maybe there is and I just haven’t found it yet.

Overall, I’m satisfied. Great product at a great price and it does what I wanted it to do.

The exterior design is nice and small, unfortunately the LG-BP340 player has minimal features & lacks sound connectivity options. Connectivity- Believe or not, you only get 1 HDMI port on the back of this unit, and that’s it! No Audio optical out (TOSlink), No Coaxial out, No analog RCA out, totally unacceptable.

If your TV does not support DTS surround via HDMI & audio out, then you cannot transfer & listen to the 5. 1 or 7. 1 Surround DTS Master Audio tracks of Premium BluRays & DVDs, you are limited to only 2 channel audio out, which is a total waste for a BluRay setup.

I have an LG 5. 1 Home Theater tuned by Mark Levinson, with TOSlink Optical In, but I cannot use it with the BP340 because there’s just no way to connect it due to the lack of the TOSlink Optical audio out or Coaxial audio out on the BP340.

On the other hand, If you have a surround receiver that supports audio via HDMI 1. 3 or better, then you can enjoy true 5. 1 or 7. 1 surround sound with DTS Master Audio or Dolby True HD. WiFi is included, but has really weak reception, there’s no LAN port on the back, my 3 year old entry level cell-phone has much better WiFi reception, an external WiFi antenna jack would have done wonders to solve this issue, but it is not present.

On the plus side, you have access to NetFlix,Vudu & YouTube, you can also pair up your smarphone via web so you can input text faster when searching for online content and it works a lot better than using the included remote control.

Picture Quality is also basic for BluRay, the player lacks any options to adjust the picture quality such as sharpness, deepcolor, etc. Verdict: The lack of sound connectivity options, weak WiFi reception & minimal set of features make this BluRay player a poor choice.

Got the unit, but many Dr. apt made this review slow in being posted. The unit preforms as expected, much faster than the Magnavox it is replacing. Like anything I have used from LG it is quality, from design to finish.

Plays every thing I have put in it, and it includes streaming apps. This unit is a FULL 1/3 smaller than the Magnavox unit it replaced. It also provides wireless networking, and has a USB port on front.

The price was good, the packaging not overkill and the shipped fast.

LG BP 340 Blue Ray Player had for bout 2 yrs. For some reason when playing disc, starts to play 3-5 seconds then stops, white screen. Goes to my sony amp 1st then tv, lap top and satallite are same connects to same amp, HDMI only all worked fine from day 1.

Hooked to tv only works fine. I had made no changes. Lap top and satallite work when I moved to where blue ray connects in amp and they work fine. Blue ray wont work in any HDMI input in amp, has 3 HDMI input ports.

Sony amp is STR-DH700. Had no issues with it in 7 yrs.
