20 Best Wifi Extenders Cnet (2022 Updated)

Needed internet access in an outbuilding which was in direct line of sight, through a brick wall, of the router but too far away for WiFi to reach (20m). Had spent days looking online at dual band and tri band, WiFi 5 and WiFi 6, which really confused me and the variations in price and reviews were bogging me down.

Decided to just give this a try as it was on offer. It works! Initially placed (10m) halfway between the router and where I wanted the signal as instructed, the device lit up green suggesting good connectivity but it didn’t give me the improved range I wanted so moved further away.

At 16m away, still green, the coverage and speed was much improved but not good enough for high speed gaming. At 27m away, the signal was now red and it suggested I should move it closer to the router, however the speed is now as good as it is in the house and perfect for gaming (and watching Netflix) through the extender at the same time! Our pc was connected through 2.

4ghz and the Netflix through 5Ghz. As a bonus, I can also connect to WiFi, right down the garden another 15m further on from the extender which is 27m from the router! Technical stuff – I have WiFi-5, dual band (should say on your router whether it’s 5 or 6, or disconnect and connect to your WiFi and if it says WAP-5 then it’s WiFi 5, if you have the option of 2.

4 and 5Ghz then you have dual band – if it doesn’t show on your router, type 192. 168. 1. 254 into the internet search bar and use the passcodes on the back of your router to log onto your router control centre and it should tell you under ‘my devices’).

I doubted whether the tri-band devices would work with my dual band router which is part of the reason I purchased this extender. I’d happily buy another at full price now and have recommended to family and friends.

Internet speed tests now consistently show poorer results when this device is plugged in. No idea why. Our son set this up for us. All the blue leds are on, as they apparently should be. The differences are not huge, but they are not in this units favour – plugged in they are around 10 for download and 7 for upload.

Unplugged? 14/9. Both sets of figures are poor. We only began to notice over the later part of lockdown, so the amount of traffic may have something to do with it. The online manual is a horrifying mess, the exact and precise opposite of plug and play.

Looking at it makes my heart sink. Even if you do set it up correctly, plainly it doesnt necessarily stay that way. Resoundingly NOT recommended. And I challenge all those who thought this was beneficial to at least try switching it off and see what happens.

Plug it in near the router, press the WPS button on the router snd the WPS on the TP-Link, wait about 30 seconds, repeat the procedure for the 5ghz frequency (if you have it, if not dont bother). Move it then to a socket not too far away from the router, wait a couple of moments and job done.

Much easier than I expected; took no more than 10 minutes to set up. Instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Coverage is excellent: the erratic signal from the router is perfect now in those parts where it would come and go and be regularly interfered with by neighbouring routers.

As I move around the house, devices switch automatically from the original router to the extender and back. Doubtless, there will be some situations, eg big house and/or many and thick walls, where the coverage might not be adequate (buy a mesh system for that, perhaps), but for most domestic users this gadget will be more than enough.

Only a small criticism: the device is larger than the pictures suggest and you need to ensure enough space around the wall socket when the aerials are extended.

I received this extender as a present a few months ago. Finally I decided to try it because my with EX6100 doesn’t reach my rear yard. I am very happy with my EX6100. It does what it supposed to do and I can always get into the user page to modify settings.

The EX3700 is a nightmare. I lost count of how many times I have factory restored it and start the setup from scratch. I reached out to the customer service and I was told I needed to buy a service package because I was past the three-month period.

The representative had a very thick accent and I can tell he was reading a prompt. I am positive he doesn’t know how the item works. After many attempts, I was able to set it up. I get signal to my iPad, and even though the extender most of the time has the top-left light red or yellow, the signal keeps coming through.

I think the hardware is damaged. I would not recommend this model. Get one that lets you get into the user/settings page every single time and avoid the frustration.

I was looking for a wifi extender that could help expand the Wi-Fi to my room because the connection to my room was pretty low and seeing how many reviews this product has, I was pretty excited to try it.

The package came as expected and it was well covered. My router was in the living room and I placed the extender a few feet away from it; in the same room. I followed the instructions as instructed but problems arose; connecting the wps to the router didn’t work no matter what I had tried, and I decided to try to connect it to the router online with the website, but it kept saying how I need to connect to the extender to be able to use it.

I later called the company a few days later but the process was long and I decided that the Wi-Fi in my room was fine compared to the long process that I have to go through just to have a better connection.

It was probably because the companies were different but I wouldn’t want to buy this and I would say to research what you need before you decided to purchase it.

I got the Netgear EX3700 delivered from B&H super fast which is great. The extender is very easy to set up, with just a browser either on your smartphone or computer. (The only thing I don’t quite like is that, in order to log on to the set up screen, Netgear forces you to create an account with them, if you don’t already have one.

) Once logged on, setting up the extender is really easy, you just need to follow the instructions on the set up browser page, with the password of your existing router’s account, very simple. And the extender performs well in the house where I had it set up.

Signals are strong in both 2. 4G band and 5G band covering the area where I need it to extend WiFi signal. It’s a good gadget to expand your WiFi coverage.

And I’m very glad that they have a ethernet port that you can use for gaming or other devices that need Internet connection. And you could use the light indicators on the AC 6120 extender/repeater to help you find the best location for the AC 6120 extender/repeater to pick up the Wi-Fi signal from your modem if the light is Red that is not a good place if the light is Amber that’s a good place if the light is green as the best place.

And usually best to have the AC 6120 extender/repeater somewhere about halfway between your modem and the Area where you want to enhance your Wi-Fi signal. I am very glad that I was able to find this Netgear AC 6120 extender/repeater.

I asked my cable provider to help me with this issue for four months and they could not help me resolve it at all. But I happen to speak to a friend who recommended trying the Netgear AC to 6120 extender/repeater!!.

Three problems on firmware V1. 0. 0. 54_1. 0. 34: – Dropped connection between laptop and extender regularly (light on the extender turning from green to red), once per day at least. – Intermittent traffic – on Windows 10, in Task Manager Performance, could see that a few seconds normal traffic, a few seconds 0.

– Signal strength is very location sensitive. I live in a house with common construction for this part of central North America (wood frame and drwall), so no concrete or steel structure for the signal to go through.

Maybe the steel ventilation ductwork interferes in places. There is a huge difference in the signal strength and connection reliability (my previous two comments) depending on where I site this extender.

I even resorted to plugging it into an extension cord and moving it around a room a couple of feet at a time, without moving my laptop (or router. ) Some spots had better signal strength and fewer drops than others, but none was trouble free.

I’ve never seen another wifi device so sensitive to location. I worked with support, who gave a few ideas, but nothing helped. I stopped using it and went back to using my wifi router which worked much better, but I got an email recently that there is new firmware.

I just loaded firmware V1. 0. 0. 64_1. 0. 39 (Oct 18, 2021) and will try again. I will comment again if there is any improvement.

I bought this gadget to extend the range of the wifi to be able to use it in our travel trailer in the driveway. It worked great over the 2 or 3 weeks straight that we used it! I never had it glitch out or anything like that, and the extended wifi was always fast and reliable.

The only time I ever had a problem with the connection was when someone bumped the directional antennas to point away from the trailer– an easy fix! On this note, it is a good idea to place it somewhere where it’s unlikely to be bumped, as even a small change can cause a drop in speed.

It’s really important to get the antennas right when you set it up, as they are so useful when set properly! All in all this is a great product, and the only thing I wish was improved is the time it takes to boot, find the router, connect and be ready, but this is really just me being spoiled by faster technology, as the entire setup from out of the box takes maybe 5 minutes! It takes probably all of 30 sec to boot and another 30 to fully connect to the router and complete the WPS authentication, then after that you just have to play with the positioning to get the best signal.

I really love the 2 different bands, 2GHz and 5GHz, as well! Well, that got kinda long, but I hope it helps direct potential buyers to choose this product, as it is really worth the money!.

I was using a powerline extender in my basement, and was not getting great speed largely due to how the wiring was done (an older house and speed based on length of wiring from base to extender). This wi-fi range extender solved my wi-fi issue and works great – key is placing it strategically.

Not sure why the bad review from others.

Range is quite poor . If you leave your room the speed drops even through it’s supposed to stay stable . Trash extender don’t recommend. Speeds only go up to 100 MBPS.

Previously I bought 2 other extenders and could not get them to work so I returned them. After a few months I decided to go into Best Buy and see what other extenders were available. This one was recommended for what my needs are remembering that the research I did on extenders said that extenders might reduce wifi signal over all.

NOT what I need to happen. Decided to try again and bought this one expecting to go through the same dissappointment as before. Plugged it in and it went through the boot up process white light blinking then yellow then steady white.

This thing was up running on it own before I had a chance to finish reading the quick start guide. No button pushed either. Before set up I moved my AT&T Gateway closer to my stairs and had low signal strength on upstairs Fire sticks.

lots of buffering. I set up extender in different rooms and found the sweet spot with good to excellant signal when located in the upstairs hall way. My phone shows my AT&T Gateway ID and same AT&T Gateway ID with.

EXT after. My streaming devices set up is ATT Gateway ID for downstairs and AT&T Gateway ID. EXT for upstairs Now no buffering because of low signal.

I connected to my Xfinity wifi without issue then a few weeks later started getting issues on the xfinity internet feed. The Xfinity tech came and ran tests and said that I can’t run the Lynksys 6500 extender as they are old technology and not compatible with the wifi6 tech that Xfinity uses.

Disconnected the linksys and my internet works again. if I turn on again I start to get connection issues after a couple of hours. I was told by xfinity I should get a mesh unit. Not an extender for wifi6.

Lynksys needs to put that info in their specs. Now I own a boat anchor.

I have used one of these for a few years now, and it always works. It is very easy to see if the original signal is strong enough because you will see a white steady light. If it turns to orange steady, it means you are a little too far from the main router, and you have to shorten the distance.

I have not used the phone app that helps with this because it is so easy just to get the white light and know it’s good. Speed is very fast, and having 4 gigabit ethernet ports in the garage without having to have dug a trench for wires makes this thing well worth it.

Linksys/Belkin is the way to go for all networking gear now. Linksys is the best (stay away from netgear stuff with all their online registration and constant automatic updates), and this device is superb.

I am online now buying another one for a friend and have set up several of these for people I know, and they are all still working.

If the EX7000 does not work properly with Spectrum or any other ISP, come forward and let users know. Instead, one will be troubleshooting with Netgear technical Staff and repeating again and again, due to the fact the extender goes back to provide intermittent Services after being fixed.

How is it possible, a device as this on with a Ethernet Hub, is not capable to provide Internet access if the systems are connected via Ethernet cable (NIC)? I need Netgear to resolve this challenge if they expect the rating to be change to more Stars.

This means, if they are willing to utilize my case to resolve the technical challenges of this extender model is having with the ISP providers, I am willing to help out versus expending more time doing the same troubleshooting of setting the device.

Netgear, you have my information, just in case look up case# 45914133. I challenge Netgear to own this challenge and resolve it in a Win-Win manner.

The Linksys Max-Stream AC1900 dual Band repeater is a good way to increase coverage in your home. If you are not using a mesh wifi router, or possibly even if you are, the Linksys Max Stream repeater will allow you to connect wireless devices that may not otherwise be in range of your primary wireless router.

The Max-Stream AC1900 repeater works by connecting to your wireless system, so it will have to be placed in a location where it can reach your wifi signal and it must be plugged into an electrical plug in order to have power.

Once your wife router recognizes the Linksys AC 1900 you will then give your Linksys Max stream a name and a password and it will show up on your devices as a separate wifi connection. At least that is how I am using this device.

Then you only have to connect your devices to this new wifi network created by the Dual band repeater. I have a nice router, but I was finding that the signal was getting pretty weak in places in my home, especially on the far end of the basement where I had an entertainment area set up for the kids.

Be adding this repeater, I was able to provide a much stronger signal in those areas. I don’t think the signal is nearly as fast as being directly connected to the primary wifi router, but it is certainly better than not having any signal at all or only a very weak wifi signal.

The whole process is very simple to do and only takes a few minutes to complete. The other option would be a larger and much more expensive mesh wifi system.

I added this to my existing MR9000 router. I also have a RE6400 extender. I find that like with their other products their firmware is really buggy and not tested very well. The particular extender RE7000, was no exception.

it didn’t always save your settings, setting up a static IP was a pain. settings would not save until you unplugged it from the wall. For both extenders i recommend using the 5Ghz upload link and allow your devices to connect to the extender in 4G.

seems to be the most reliable setting if your going from AP router in a basement to 3rd floor. Speed is not compromised at all and connection is stable. Didn’t bother with the “mesh” aspect since i want to know which SSID i’m connected to, plus iphones will automatically switch to the strongest connection anyways.

It works, but it sure is temperamental, and it’s a real pain with a Mac. Setup was not bad, but not as easy as it could have been. It did not see the router, even though it was less than a foot away from a WiFi6 monster.

Once I manually entered the SSID, I was able to connect. Because the router was not Linksys, the instructions automatically created a new network name. This is a pain if you’re trying to create a mesh, as you have to completely drop from the base network or manually shift to the new one, or both.

While my iPhone and iPad worked fine, my MacBook Air could not get a router connection to the base. The only way to get it to work was to manually copy the TCP/IP information from the Windows machine and enter it on the MacBook.

This, of course, meant that I had to go back and change it to Automatic every time I left this house (Starbucks, airport lounge, etc. ). This worked, but it was a real pain. Then the other devices started acting up when connected.

In turn, my Windows devices, iPad, and iPhone could not get an Internet connection through the extender, even though the they could through the base router, and all settings appeared fine. The only way I could get it to work was to unplug the extender, let it reset, and plug it back in.

At this point, I am returning it. While I can get it to work, it really should not be this difficult to use.

This WiFi Range Extender (EX3110) was easy to set-up with an online assistant that walks you through each step. The extender is very convenient– I can unplug it from one part of my house to plug it into another part quickly, and it begins extending WiFi approximately 45 seconds to one minute after being plugged in.

One notable drawback is that the WiFi extender noticeably decreases the efficacy of your router/main network. I live in a college house of 9 people, and the 4 individuals who live in the unit where the router is located have noticed their WiFi become slow and ineffective when all myself and 2 others use the WiFi range extender from our own unit.

I have set up the extender in two separate locations of the house, with each location having drawbacks: when I set up the extender close to my room, my WiFi has 3 bars and is very fast; however, my roommate’s WiFi on the other side of the house is essentially down/not working.

When I plug in the extender halfway between my room and my roommate’s unit across the house, all of our WiFi works moderately well, until all 9 of us are using it, in which we have very patchy WiFi. Overall, this product is effective and easy to use.

Beware if you plan to use it in a house with more than 8 people connected to one network; it may be possible to find a solution by moving the extender to different areas of the house, but you may be better of with a mesh network system.

Seems to work well so far. My TP-Link WiFi router is towards the front of the house, so at the back of the house inside the signal was low and outside there was no signal. I placed the Extender more towards the back of the house than the middle, where it still gets a full signal from the router plus increases the signal on devices at the back of the house to 100% inside and 60% outside.

Setup was easy following the instructions – I used the online instructions and did the setup manually as this was recommended in a video I watched on YouTube. But I’ve read other reviews saying the automatic setup works too.

You do have to be aware that the Extender has a separate name and therefore separate connection compared to your main router. You therefore have to swap between them in order to get the best signal depending on which part of the house you’re in.

I use the same password for both connections to make it easier to swap if I have to. But my kids are mainly in the back and middle of the house, so they just stay on the Extender connection and I’m in the middle and front of the house so I stay on the main Router connection.

So far there has been no detectable loss of signal to devices connected to the Extender although occasionally the LED turns to red but the devices are still showing a connection. Happy with this and the good price I got from Harvey Norman at the time of purchase.

I just brought this home, walked in the door, unboxed it and had it hooked up and running in under 5 minutes! It’s working great. I couldn’t stream video in the two upstairs bedrooms farthest away from the router downstairs.

Using the enclosed quickstart guide, I connected the extender to my Comcast gateway via the WPS buttons – first to the 2. 4 GHz then to the 5 GHz band. Then I took it upstairs and plugged it into an outlet in the hallway.

The power light was amber, then the WPS light turned on green. I went in the bedroom and connected my iPad Wi-Fi to the 5 GHz band which came up as a choice under my network name and entered my network password.

It connected immediately. I can stream video now without buffering and freezing and my download speed has increased substantially. I’m always surprised and delighted when tech products actually work the first time around and I don’t have to spend hours troubleshooting and trying to figure it out.

I’m very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this extender.

I can’t recommend to NOT buy this product enough. There is no way to tell if it’s connected and working in your home, the app that it has you download is faulty at best, and down right criminal at worst.

Calling the customer support to get help my extender losing connection every day resulted in a confirmation that the app is only meant for setup, but on the app store and on the product instructions that come with the product it confirms its supposed to be used to manage the use of the product.

On top of that the customer support is absolutely worthless, both calling in and with their chat support. They’re third party, as is everyone these days, but after spending hours with multiple of them they have don’t even have the decency to check what product you bought from netgear; one rep I had literally copy and pasted the support from their customer support page (I’m online and asking for help netgear, obviously I’ve already googled quick fixes and they don’t work).

When this thing works, it works great, the issue though is the app tells you you lose connection every hour or so, and the PC setup website you go through also doesn’t confirm when the extender is working and when your router stops utilizing the extender.

This is the first netgear product I’ve ever used, and it will be the last; cherry on top of this interaction was being told by their third party customer support over the phone (they use a vpn to make it seem like they’re in California but I got the rep to admit he was in India) that he couldn’t help me and to call netgears business centers directly (not the number they provide you) if I needed continued support.

For your sanity, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Here’s my honest opinion. This product (and many others like it) will “help” somewhat in extending your Wi-Fi range. However, would I have found is you are WAY better off opting for the higher end base Wi-Fi box that most companies now offer.

I didn’t think it mattered at first, but I found that PLACEMENT of your base Wi-Fi box makes an enormous difference in how wide your wireless footprint will be in your home. Don’t place it in a corner or near large windows or large mirrors.

Don’t put it near the floor, near TV sets or other electronic equipment. Place it at average height and as close to the center of your room as you can get it (not always easy). It may take some creative rearrangement, but the end result will be much better than getting ANY of these extender boxes.

I’ve tried many of these extenders (including this one) and nothing came close to simply placing my base Wi-Fi box correctly, which for me is Xfinity’s latest brand new “XB-8” Wi-Fi gateway box.

I needed to extend and boost my wifi signal. After careful debate, I decided on the Nighthawk AC1900 WIFI PLUGIN EXTENDER. It was more than what I had planned on spending, but felt it was worth it. I ordered it from BESTBUY about 9am on a Saturday and received by 4pm the same day.

I was excited. I downloaded the Nighthawk App, followed instruction to install, twice. I could not get it to function with my Verizon Frios router. I call netgear Customer help line. Tech remoted into my network to diagnose my problem.

After being on hold, the tech came back and told me thatI needed to pay another $15 or $50 (I couldn’t really understand tech due to tech heavy accent) for a needed software. I explained that the unit just did an update.

She stated that the software had to be paid for with her and that it must be installed by a tech. I explained that I just paid almost $200 for the extender and asked if there was another netgear model that doesn’t require additional software.

The tech hug up on me. I then. Allen best buy, and they approved the unit to be returned for a return. I’m looking at Linksysor other brands. Greatly disappointed.

I tried in van for two days to install these TP links which the only thing I achieved in all that time was to link the TP to my mobile phone, When the TP was linked to my phone I could only access certain web sites, I spoke to technical who could not understand my English language very well and so could not assist me.

All in all a complete waste of time and stress. I have now purchased WiFi Extender Booster 750Mbps Dual Band WiFi Range Extender Repeater by YUNJIN which was a lot easer to install. Remember to follow the instructions to the letter and all will be ok and REMEMBER TO ENABLE SECURITY TYPE OR YOU WILL NOT BA ABLE ACCESS ALL WEBSITES.

IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE RESET WITH A PIN FOR AT LEAST 30 SECONDS THEN UNPLUG FROM MAINS AND REMOVE WIRED CABLE IF USING IT THEN PLUG BACK IN AND LOG BACK ONTO 192. 168. 10. 1 OR YOU WILL FIND YOU CANNOT GET BACK ONTO THE SET UP WEB SITE.

I have now bought 6 of these units for around my house to give the my family perfect speeds all around the house. My other advice is to name each unit when setting it up, I have given my children a link in each of their bedrooms and so named that device to their name so they can connect to their own extender.

The other reason to name each extender device separately is it makes it a lot easier when linking them together to know which link you are joining to for the best signal. I am fortunate to have quite a large property so this may not always be a problem.

So fingers crossed you have a relatively stress free install.

REVIEW OF N300 2. 4GHZ ONLY MODEL NOT THE DUAL BAND MODELNo techno talk or over analysis here. I plugged it in close to my router, followed the VERY easy instructions in the quick start guide and boom.

connected to my Vodafone Home Internet 4G router. That took about 90 seconds in total. Moved it to a socket about half way between my router and the area we had a very weak wifi signal, plugged in and waited for the lights to go blue.

That took about another minute in total. Tested the wifi signal and much, much stronger than before. Total installation time then was around 2 and a half minutes. Now have a strong, stable wifi signal in an areas that before we hardly had a signal at all and kept loosing wifi.

Went for this model because of the twin external aerial which to my way of thinking anyway must be better than the internal aerial on other low cost extenders. Anyway, it took no time at all to install, caused no stress and helps get a really strong and usable wifi signal to an area of the house where we couldnt get a signal before.

Whats there not to like about that I paid 17. 99 for this little device which has provided a stress free solution to a problem and that in my book anyway is a fantastic, instant return of investment.

To say I am impressed is a bit of an understatement, I had never come across TPLink before until I started to look at wifi extenders but if I need anything like this in the future I will look at their products as my first port of call.

Excellent all round purchase and 2 and a half minutes of my Sunday well spent.

Easy to setup using wps and my AC 1900 Asus router, the smart indicator worked and fluctuated from orange to green depending on how far it was away from the router when plugged in. Performance was poor to be honest and this is down to the limitations in the technology rather than the product itself.

This device is a single band extender with a 10/100mbps Ethernet port! The issue with single band Range Extenders is that they have to talk to the router and connected devices on the same band, effectively halving the bandwidth to any connected devices.

Extenders should ideally be located at the mid-point between the router and the location where wireless extension is required. If a basic or old router is being used then range and bandwidth are likely compromised even before adding the range extender and halving whatever bandwidth is available in the first place.

With a 10/100mbps Ethernet port advertising the device as a 300mbps is extremely misleading imo. I am not really a fan of single band extenders and this one is no different, I would rather use powerline kits, Ethernet cables or buy a new router (or reposition the existing router) before using these products, however if none of these options are possible then this type of device can be utilized as it is easy to set up and cheap to try.

This unit is well built and stayed cool to touch during testing, the smart indicator was useful when testing around the house, clearly showing when communication with the router was good or bad. It connected to my wireless network easily and I was able to test its capabilities by sending packets of data to and from a remote laptop using Totusofts LanSpeed software.

I connected to the laptop using only 2. 4ghz N. Transferring files through the range extender to the laptop I saw speeds of 10. 7 megabits per second or when I connected to the laptop using just the router I was able to see speeds of 48.

2 megabits per second. 10. 7 megabits per second is enough to surf the net and send email, but forget streaming video or music. This extender is well built like all TP Link products, comes with an Ethernet port (10/100mbps), signal strength meter and was relatively easy to set up manually.

It is inexpensive to buy and comes with a 2 year warranty. If you are not able to run Ethernet, upgrade your router, use Powerline (TP Link have some excellent Powerline kits), then a range extender could be considered.

Just remember single band range extenders communicate with the router and connected devices on the same band.

We had our TP-Link for approx 5 years before phones etc starting cutting out on our Fibre Network. Happy while it lasted. At times on a few occasions movies on Chrome-cast would cut out, but overall a great wee WiFi extender and did the job well.

We have very poor WiFi capability and so we were very pleased that this cheap extender actually worked ok. Chrome-cast for TV & 2x Phones were set up on this extender through the Tether App and all worked great.

We recently purchased WiFi speakers & Sub and found that they kept cutting out. In my opinion if you are wanting to set up more than 3 appliances then you will need to get a better WI-FI Extender as this T-P Link can’t handle a lot of connections.

We had WI-FI range from 300 metres away and worked well in inclosed spaces. Great wee unit for an affordable price on special. As I mentioned Great for a couple of phones and a Chromecast but more than that appliances start to cut out.

Tether App was the easiest method to set this extender up for us. We had ours installed in the kitchen at the opposite end of the house from the router, worked best for us there. 5 stars because it worked well, easy set up & affordable.

Shame you can’t add more than one to get better coverage etc.

When a new tenant moved downstairs and completely out of range of the wireless network, it became clear that getting a Range Extender was in order. Fortunately, I was able to find this one at a very reasonable price.

For anybody that’s previously owned or used a wireless extender, using it will be pretty straightforward. Even for a user that’s completely new to wireless extenders, getting this one to work isn’t overwhelmingly difficult.

Interfacing with the extender is done via an internal phantom-web-page, which further contains its own GUI. While the GUI can be a little bit confusing at first, it’s still well designed for the most part and all it takes is a little patience to begin using it successfully.

Then, with just a bit of further patience, you’ll be good to go. The only caveat to keep in mind? Owing in part to the fact that this is a very reasonably priced device, its ‘range’ is not super far.

Oh, it is far, and it will help a distant computer access the broadband offered by the central router, but it’s simply not ‘super far’. Overall, it’s a great product and terrifically priced!.

There are some areas in my apartment that don’t connect to my wifi so I decided to get a wifi extender. I didn’t want anything elaborate; it’s a small apartment. The TP-Link N300 got good reviews so I thought I would try it.

The connection did not work well; wifi kept dropping. I went to the TP-Link and found that a lot of people had the same problem and the solutions were not easy for me to understand. Perhaps my problem was because my router does not have a WPS button so set up wasn’t that easy.

I returned it to Office Depot (they are great! There was no problem at all to make the return).

These are by far, some of the worst mesh systems I’ve ever used. I have given these things nearly 6 months, but will be returning them. Setup: Setup seems simple enough, but nowhere close to as smooth as Eero, Linksys or Nest Wifi (Google wifi).

If you don’t setup the nodes/satellites correctly it can be difficult to get them adjusted later on, my units needed to be reset 3 times before they recognized my modem and it’s internet connection. App: all modern mesh systems need a good app to accompany the hardware.

For diagnostic purposes, checking network health, updating basic settings. But this app is very unreliable, only seems to work well if you are directly connected to the network. On top of that they spam you about their warranties/network protection services.

Operation: this is the crux of the issue with this unit. I live in a small apartment, but I needed hardline connections in every room. So I went with the 3 pack, so I could hardwire as many devices as possible that need as low of latency as possible.

The 800mbps that I have coming in, immediately off the first satellite, on my wifi 6 devices with direct line of sight to router, they get 450-600 mbps. The good news is at the farthest satellite, I will still get about 400 mbps.

But to be honest, unless you’ve got a lot of bandwidth/speed to play with, this is a similar drop off to just using a range extender. My old Linksys Velop system maintained about 90% of its speed wirelessly, but losing 50% is very pitiful performance-wise (and yes all firmware is up-to-date Netgear, stop treating your customers as if they are stupid).

But the biggest reason for my disdain for this product comes from its constant failure and reboots! This unit will either tank (speeds as high as 2-4mbps) or completely shut down and start back up for absolutely no reason.

I have lost too many online matches this way or have been disconnected during important calls just because the router was “tired” or throwing a fit. My modem, which is nearing 4 years old at this point, chugs along just fine.

I cannot stress enough, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. If you need wifi 6, buy Eero, Velop or Amplifi. Do not bother with the joke that is Netgear nor their inferior “premium” brand Nighthawk. This performance barely justifies a $200 price tag, let alone a $500 one.

This will work in a pinch if you don’t require a lot of performance. But for my needs there were two big drawbacks. 1. It doesn’t switch locally – That means that 2 devices connected to the extender, via wireless or Ethernet, don’t talk to each other directly through the extender.

The extender sends the packets back to the main router first. This really reduces the throughput of local transfers. If you’re copying files from your phone to your PC in the same room as the extender, they’re going to be a lot slower than you would expect.

2. Ethernet is only 10/100. Really? In 2021 we’re still withholding gigabit Ethernet as a premium feature for higher product tiers? For the non-technical people: this means that even if you have a really fast internet connection, anything connected to the Ethernet port is going to max out at 100Mbps or less.

I had just gotten a new smart TV and was trying to connect it to the wifi at home unfortunately the signal from the wifi did not reach my room. I bought this one because of the good ratings, it was easy to set up and get it connected to my wifi, it did eventually give me issues.

I wouldve given it 5 stars if it wasnt for it always disconnecting. It worked the first 3 days and then it started giving me issues, kept disconnecting even if the wifi had excellent signal. I reset it and it worked again in the morning but then by night the issues started happening again.

When I check the connection on my TV it passes all connections and gives me no issue. Not really sure what else to do other than continue to reset it each time. A little disappointed but I guess it’ll have to do for now until I find something else that works better, if there is anything else.

I put this wifi extender in my garage because of front smart lights that were having issues keeping a strong wifi connection. This has fixed my issue and was easy to install. Some people have complained that it slows your internet down.

That is not a problem with the extender, it is just science. Any extender will have slow down because ithe wifi signal is not going directly to your device anymore. Without extender, speed test showed 55mbs.

With extender it was at 38 mbs. For my purposes, that is plenty fast for smart lights.

So far it works well. It can cover the wifi range to make the weak points within my house far better than before. The only shortcoming is its app setup procedure. I used the nighthawk app to set it up.

At the very beginning, it has its own network and my phone needs to connect to its own network to set it up. It worked well, and after all wifi settings mostly finished, I noticed that a firmware upgrade is needed and clicked upgrade.

However, after that the app still shows the original set-up is not yet finished, and at that point I can no longer connect to its own network to finish the setup. So now the app is stuck there and I cannot do any further.

But anyway the box can work its extender function well, and after I moved it to a different location it works as expected, though I cannot continue setting it up anymore. I think there is some bug with the app software.

I guess next time, if I change my wifi router with a new wifi username and password, I will need to click the reset button to recover it to the original factory setting and do this from the very beginning, and the nighthawk app also needs to be reset.

As of now, I do not need to worry, and should be able to enjoy its extender function.

Says easy 5 minute set up, hassle free. I spent 2. 5 hrs with the router plugged in next to a 4 month old Nighthawk wifi6 5g router. it never would link in either 2. 4g or the 5g bands. Couldn’t get closer as I set it onto the router.

LEDs never lit up on the device side. Surprise turning it off and back on did nothing. Nor did unplugging it and plugging it back in. In short even with decades in IT work I couldn’t get this to link up.

Now maybe I had a bad one. but having all instructions and set up based upon if you can get the extender to link n make its own WiFi network to log into should be a router only thing. On day 3 it melted.

Got so hot plugged into a wall outlet the plastic case melted. I had given up and taken the WiFi extender upstairs to see if it was just stubborn and it melted like a toddler throwing a tantrum. Output tested fine by an electrician no other things plugged into that output have melted.

All in all a wild item never worked and the spontaneously melts into a puddle of goo. Not gonna recommend unless you like frustration and a clean up.

I live in a one-bedroom, 675 sq ft apartment. I have a 50 Mbps internet plan which is what I get in the living room. When you move to my bedroom, the speed drops to 16-18 mbps. Remember, not a big apartment.

I placed the extender in an outlet by the bathroom sink which is just outside my bedroom. It increased my speed from 16-18 Mbps to approximately 34-36 megabytes per second. I am thrilled that it increased my speed so much for such a low price item.

Tech is now working properly in the bedroom. It wasn’t difficult to set up. I pressed the WPS button on my router and the same button on the extender and they connected automatically. It will create a new Wi-Fi link automatically.

For example if your modem is called Modem 5G, it will create the Wi-Fi link of Modem 5G_EXT. Just log on to the new EXT link with the same password as your original modem and you are good to go.

I have long been having problems with slow wifi speeds in my kitchen, I’m sure due to the distance and number of walls between my pc and router. I purchased this in an attempt to boost my speeds. The set up was very simple, although the directions could have been written better.

I was up and running in about 5 min. Since setting it up I have been doing speed tests several times per day and have noticed a marked improvement in my wifi. Before, my speeds were mostly around 20 – 25 Mbs and went as low as 5 Mbs.

Now I am regularly getting 38 – 52 Mbs. But of course the bottom line is I have noticed an improvement in the performance online. I recommend this product to anyone having issues with their wifi.

Full disclosure, I did have a little trouble with the setup. I followed the quick set-up instructions and for some reason that I don’t understand, this messed up the settings on my DD-WRT wireless router.

But once I reset that, I went through the set-up procedure again and all was well. This TP Link extender now gives me an “Excellent” signal in the far end of my ranch home opposite of where the router is installed.

Haven’t had a hiccup since! I chose this unit because f a CNet article I read comparing this unit to some other more expensive units, and this one out performed them all. So far, it comes as advertised!.

Perhaps it isn’t the extenders fault but I bought this extender specifically for my Roku TV and it just does not work. Everything else seems to connect fine enough, but if you’re looking to connect a Roku to this, I would recommend checking out something else.

Also, very sketchy customer service. They ask for way too much information for no real reason other than “it will help future support calls go more smoothly”. Meanwhile, next time I called support they stated they had none of my information saved.

Incredibly suspect.

It does extend the signal quite well and gives me full bars on the other side of the house. The problem is that About every 10 seconds, there is a second of no communication. This isn’t a huge problem if you’re streaming a video as you can buffer the video quite a ways out even if you get a second of interruption.

It is, however, hugely problematic if you video conference as the feed is constantly skipping a second for every 10 seconds. The worst problem is the customer service. It’s comically bad.

Sorry this review took so long to post, but just today I finally had time to install it. took all of ten minutes, including walking out to the barn to check the wifi signal on my laptop there; the connection in question.

I now have four bars rather then the two I had originally from my xfinity modem in my computer room in the house. I simply put the the AC750 in a window sill of my computer room with the modem, which faces the barn and, viola! I walked out there and got online in just a few seconds after setting up the connection there according to the instructions.

This is a very effective wifi range extender though it is crippled in some ways. It is limited to 2. 4Ghz and it does not extend ethernet wired connections to make them wifi. These are its only limitations.

A wifi range extender’s job is to pick up weak wifi signals from a router, and boost them into a space where devices are trying to connect to wifi. Thus if a router is sending signals from a first floor to a third floor, on a network named “homenet,” the extender will amplify homenet’s signals to create an extension called homenet_EXT.

A device such a smart phone now logs onto homenet_EXT and is online. There is no need to run wire and set up another router to boost signal. This unit is neat, quick, and easy to set up. Plug it into a wall outlet.

The web based configuration is foolproof and reliable. The unit’s SSID can be active or turned off. The router’s signal is amplified accurately without drop outs. The unit is small and unobtrusive. It’s price is remarkable! This unit fills the gap where blind spots affect wifi connectivity.

It eliminates the need for additional equipment. For all these reasons, I score this unit at the top of the scales for price, reliability and utility. Great job, Netgear.

Well I gotta admit at first I was worried that this was not going to perform as advertised but for petes sake; Boy was I wrong. This lil puppy was super easy to install and my computer even seems to run faster than normal.

I balled out on this bad boy so I could have my laptop setup and online out in my garage where my WiFi signal was weak AF! But after plugging this mofo in the outlet, I got more bars than Rittz the rapper, (and hes got bars for days!) Then I put it to the ultimate test.

I logged on to Facebook to see if it could keep up with all the stupidity and ridiculous questions people post like whats the biggest size Tires my truck can fit stock? And yo fam, whats the pros and cons on me doing a 8 lift with 24×14 wheels plus 4 spacers? And hey guys, my truck is lifted, on 30s, I just hacked the factory exhaust off and removed the active fuel management system, how come Im getting poor gas mileage? and hey, I just bought a new truck, what should my first mod be? Let me see pix of your truck so I can do the same exact thing.

The list goes on and on. But my point is, if it can keep up with all the non driving, nonsense then its definitely gotta be one of the best devices out there. I am super happy with it and I would most definitely recommend it to anyone and I would buy it again.

Once its setup the first time, your all set. It will recognize the device and connect it to the WiFi network automatically. This item is definitely baller AF! Bloop-Bloop.

This WiFi range booster was purchased on recommendation from a family member. My router is on 2nd floor, and XBOX system in the basement. It was having trouble keeping up during live games. I added this WiFi range booster on the 1st floor, and it solved the problem.

Download speeds improved dramatically in the basement. The trick was to put the WiFi range booster half way between the router and the XBOX. When I initially put the WiFi range booster in the basement, it didn’t work because it was too far from the source to get a signal and boost it.

Set up was easy, I just did the push button method vs online method. The other trick, is that you need to wait 30-60 seconds for the signal to register when you plug it in, or turn on a device. Just have to be patient.

After that initial connection delay, the system is good to go. I recommend purchasing this WiFi range booster.
