20 Best Wifi Grill Thermometer (2022 Updated)

I use the humidity controller and two WiFi temp controllers to set and maintain the desired environment in a horticultural research setting and they work very well. The app needs work for the product to be 5 star.

but it does allow for monitoring, changing set values, making rules across the controllers and has the ability to export the data in CSV format which is very useful however it feels like a beta app. A stable bug free app would make these controllers hard to beat for function and price in settings like mine.

Tip. We mainly use the app in an Android emulator in both Windows and Linux but we do use it in phones well.

We love this griddle. Everything from steaks to pancakes, eggs, fried potatoes and burgers and hot dogs come out great. Easy to clean especially with the cleaning kit. The 2 cover set is great. One cover to put over it when you want to leave it out and one zippered cover with handle to store or travel with.

With a 2lb propane tank it travels easily and you can use it anywhere. I see us using it in our garage to grill all winter even if it’s snowing outside.

The heat pad is a very gentle heat, which is what you want. It won’t maintain the temperature of a worth unless you have it inside an enclosed space. I have the pad inside a fridge and the fridge and pad connected to the wireless inkbird.

Temperature is spot on all the time. Wireless functionality is awesome. Get alarms wherever you are if something goes wrong with the temperature.

The concept of this probe system was exactly what I was looking for. The problem is the complexity to get it working. As a new owner I was expecting more product support since it’s anything but plug and play.

It took over an hour to get 4 probes connected and my meat on the smoker. Even after all that time I was not able to get the probes to run through the wifi setup. I could only get them to work via bluetooth.

That was the biggest disappointment after spending $500. Running a close second was the ambient temperature readings. I was really excited to be able to capture the ambient temps from all areas inside the smoker.

However the readings were no where close to the actual temperatures. running 50+ degrees low. Definitely not something that I would trust. I’m going to give it a couple more tries with future cooks and hopefully will figure out the trick to get them to connect to the wifi bridge instead of just bluetooth so I can monitor my smoker from afar but right now I’m less than impressed by this product given the amount of money invested.

I was hopeful it would blow away my FireBoard system as I was really looking forward to a truly wireless option.

I’ve been using The MeatStick for about two years now and I love it. It is my go to meat probe whether I’m at home smoking a chicken for the family or out at the beach grilling up a tri-tip for friends.

Their was a small learning curve when I first got the MeatStick but soon after I just loved the ease of use. I had a hiccup with one probe and was assisted quickly with a replacement after some troubleshooting tech support, a few pics to customer services, I was sent a replacement probe and I was back in business.

I currently own 4 probes which includes the two of the 2020 red version, a mini and the new grey version MeatStick. I must say, I use the mini the most now, but the others are perfect for my smoking needs because of the ambient temp, which alerted me when my pellet grill flamed out and when my barrel smoker needed a little more fuel.

I strongly recommend this product, due to its performance and I had a great experience with their customer service. For all of you that need to step away to run an errand, the wifi extender is awesome! I was miles away at target running an errand and I knew where my temps where at, so cool! Happy grilling all!.

Ive always been a fan of using thermometers when bbq’ing for that perfect cook, and this is a must have. The thermometer takes two AA batteries for the base which acts as a wireless bridge and a charging station for the stick.

Simply download the app, and follow the on screen instructions to set both ambient temp and cook temp, both of which are monitored by the stick. Then its just a matter of inserting the stick into the meat and away you go.

I will note that it is important to ensure that all of the thermometer is seated in the meat. The instructions walk you through the proper placement, but to my understanding the entire probe measures, not just the tip as with other thermometers.

I have found a few times where the tip has poked through the side of the meat and your temps will then be thrown off fairly easily. As long as the whole probe is in meat its smooth sailing. Two AA batteries have lasted be roughly 4 months before needing replacement.

I use it roughly 2-3 times a week.

Wow, my husband loved his gift. Exactly what I thought it would be and more. Truly impressed by this device and the way it works. Not sure why my husband wanted it as he cooks perfect meat every time but he said he wanted to take the guessing game out while waiting and it certainly did that! Highly recommend for those BBQ.

It is a quality toy comparable to what is available in stores. It was about $2 cheaper than what I could have paid at brick and mortar stores.

Use it all the time. I have used a lot of temperature checking equipment.. this is one of the better ones. Very reliable and the temp is very accurate.

I purchased one, and after using purchased another to give to a friend. It has a bunch of presets as well as custom times and temps. This reaches farther than my more expensive wireless meat probes.

As far as I know it’s good. It was a gift and hasn’t been used yet. Always quick shipping though on all products from Pit Boss.

My Pit Boss has 2 probes but I have to run to the smoker to check the temp. With my new Nutrichef Bluetooth probes, I never have to leave the couch. They are very accurate right out of the box and you can name the meats on the app so you know the individual temps and don’t burn anything.

They work!.

Easy setup. Seems to be fairly accurate but I did not calibrate it in boiling water yet. Had both probes near each other in a roast chicken and there is a 10 degree F difference. Not sure if I should believe that.

Will have to do more controlled testing in a cup of boiling water.

Used it for the first time and it was so great being able to set it and forget it. It sends alerts when you’re out of range and when it has hit the desired temperature. A true must for any person that likes to grill.

Told my brother about it and he ordered one for himself.

I really wanted to like this device. I have had one of Thermopro’s instant read thermometers for years and love it. I do a lot of low and slow cooks, so this seemed like a perfect replacement for my current wireless thermometer setup.

This device theoretically would allow me to keep the lid closed for most of the cook, and have one small device to track my meat an ambient temps. But, after a little bit of time leaving the probe on in my house that the ambient temperature readings were not even close to accurate.

For whatever reason the temp went from about 5 degrees cooler than house temp (I have multiple readings in my house and was able to determine precise temps), to 15 degrees cooler than the room. This continued when the meat was on the grill cooking as well.

The temps were almost 25 degrees different from my wireless thermometer I’ve used for years. The other issue was with internal temperatures. Even though they were much more accurate, they were very slow to update.

This caused me to overshoot my target temp for my meats by about 10 degrees because the thermometer didn’t update fast enough. It seems like it’s on some kind of timed cadence for updates and for me they were way too spaced out.

I attempted to use this for three low and slow cooks and it failed the same way each time. One design flaw I found with the device (and reading on competitor devices this seems to be a common compliant of truly wireless probes) is that the probe itself is really big.

It made putting this thing into a pork butt, chuck roast, and steak very difficult. If you can’t get it into a pork butt easily, how are you expected to get this to fit and stay in place for a more delicate/lighter protein like a chicken.

It barely stayed in place with a gigantic tomahawk steak. I love the concept of the device, and I only lost connection twice (which is much better than my other wireless thermometer), so I think there’s hope for it in the long term.

But, I’m going to hold off buying another one of these fully wireless thermometers until they’ve had a chance to mature a bit in the market. Maybe in a couple years I’ll take a look and see if the technology and designs have improved.

I have only had this probe for a short time but have cooked several different things with it including grilled chicken and a smoked brisket. Here are my thoughts:First thing I noticed is that it is a little difficult to take the clear plastic cover off the base station.

I feel like I am going to break something because of the amount of effort it takes to remove the cover. The base station feels a little flimsy. Accidents happen and I think it will break instantly if it is ever dropped.

The little rubber plug that goes over the USB-C port fell off quickly. Not exactly sure when it happened but it must have been within 10 minutes of being removed from the box. I am very happy though that this device uses USB-C and not a micro USB.

My final comment on the base station is that it needs magnets on the bottom. I will be adding those myself so that I can stick it to the side of the pellet box on my Pit Boss. The probe feels well put together.

There is a small ring around the metal part of the probe and the probe must be inserted into the meat past this ring. The Probe must also be relatively close to the base station. With the lid of my pit shut I found that the probe would lose connectivity if the station was more than 4 feet away.

Also, if you wrap your meat in aluminum foil you must puncture the probe into the meat through the foil. If you wrap the probe in foil with the meat you lose all connectivity. I also found that the practical range of the device is nowhere near 550 feet.

I had intermittent connections issues at the opposite side of my house which is only about 75 feet away. I did have a bit of trouble connecting the device to the app but looking back I think that it might have been because the base station battery was dead.

After charging the base station to full it seemed to connect just fine. The app was very clean and worked well. It did crash once but it worked good the rest of the time. I actually found that it continued to run in the background of my phone all day after cooking that chicken.

So I would say it is pretty stable. I do feel it’s important to note that my phone is a Samsung Galaxy S21. Obviously it may be less stable if your not using a major phone brand and model. If I could change one thing about the app it would be the scroll wheels used to set the MAX and MIN settings of the ambient sensor.

Scrolling through 100 degrees or more is just a bit tedious and I would rather enter the values using a number pad. Pretty minor issue for me though as I probably won’t be using the ambient sensor much.

Also the app needed my device location and I have no idea why. It didn’t ask for any other permissions though which is a good thing. If it had asked for Camera and Mic access, contact details, or other information I would be writing an extremely negative review right now, privacy after all is important and there is no reasonable reason for a thermometer to need those items.

Probe seemed to be sluggish updating at room temperatures but was faster once in the pit. The ambient temperature sensor and the probe sensor were not reading the same temp even when lying on my kitchen counter for hourshey were only 2 degrees off so its not that big of a deal.

The meat probe itself was giving a nearly identical readout as my normal meat probe so I feel like I can trust it. Finally the estimated time remaining only worked about half the time and I have no idea why.

Sometimes it would work and other times it just showed as a blank. Overall my experience with this device was pretty good but I think its slightly overpriced. $70-80 is about the right price for this product in my opinion.

The design seems to be based on the MEATER and at the current list price of $90 I would spend another $10 and buy a MEATER+ instead of this.

My TempSpike arrived yesterday and I immediately tried it with a smoked chicken using a Pit Barrel Junior. To my surprise and skepticism, it worked perfectly! I would have thought that the all-metal construction of the Pit Barrel would have blocked the Bluetooth signal from the TempSpike to my phone, but that wasn’t the case at all.

As instructed, I did place the booster a couple feet away from the smoker, but never needed to plug it into a power outlet. I then went inside, about 30 feet away and on the other side of an impact glass door, and had no trouble following the temperature of both the pit and the food.

When I removed the chicken from the smoker, I checked the reported temperature of the food with a ThermaPen and found the chicken to be within 1 degree of the TempSpike!Surprisingly, this is also very easy to clean.

After it’s cooled, simply run it under warm water with a little soap and rinse it clean. Electronics able to survive soap and water? Amazing!!The only thing it doesn’t do is regulate the pit temperature like a BBQ Guru, but I suppose the people at ThermoPro are working on that as I write this!In addition to BBQing and smoking food, this probe is perfect for the oven or even sous vide.

I haven’t tried either yet, but truly, the TempSpike is a real game changer for the home cook. For the price, this is a great addition to my kitchen and I look forward to using it often!.

We live in the SE and BBQ year round and I recently got the chance to try out the Meat Stick. We use a smoker for BBQ’ing/smoking ribs, brisket, Pork butts and turkey. I’ve tried 4 different remote thermometers with varying degrees of success and frustration.

Most were too confusing to set up or were so inaccurate as to be useless. My initial MeatStick experience: Following the Apps instructions set up was a breeze, taking only a few minutes to finish. I used the Mini on Baby Back ribs and during cooking, compared the App’s temp readouts with that of a ThermaPen instant read thermometer, the temps matched exactly.

Using only the charger and not the Bridge/extender it never lost the WiFi signal. Pork ribs were not listed in the App menu so I chose the Pork **** setting and upped the temp range to the max of 185.

Ribs are best when cooked to 190 and when the internal temp reached 180 the App sent a warning message to remove the Mini as it was close to its max temp of 185! Ribs turned out fine but I should have used the larger/longer MeatStick that has a max temp of 212.

Lesson learned; for meat that must be cooked to 190-200 range [Ribs, Butts, Shoulders and Brisket] use the standard MeatStick and not the mini! Included with the MeatStick in an awesome well designed zippered case that has room for extra probes/sticks, batteries etc.

plus a foam insert with cutouts that fit each piece [probe, charger, bridge] so they’re protected when not in use. Final thoughts: Is it accurate – Yes Is it easy to set up and use – Yes Does it maintain WIFI signal – Sure does Does it remember previous settings/recipes – Yes Is it easy to clean – Yes Should you try it – Definitely Of all the remote thermometers I’ve tried over the years, the MeatStick is hands down the winner in both accuracy and ease of setup and use I’ve found.

Highly recommend.

Fantastic Product, a little rough getting it setup Now that I’ve gotten the MeatStick setup, I love it. It is really fantastic not having to mess with wires and having an immediate view of what is going on inside my smoker.

The ability to measure the ambient temperature inside the grill without having to use an extra thermometer is fantastic. The combination of the MeatStick and the Mini makes it great for measuring two pieces of meat or more often two locations in a larger piece of meat.

I did have a bit of a rough time getting the product set up for use the first time. I have an Eero mesh system and it seems that the wifi extender was confused showing the network many times. I did finally just connect it to an old base station we still had connected and that worked fine but I wouldn’t think a mesh system would cause it so much trouble.

I also struggled to get the meatsticks firmware updated. After trying about a dozen times it seems if finally succeeded. After they were set up and updated they seem to be working flawlessly. The app did ask at one point how things were going and when I said I was having trouble, they suggested I email support.

I did but now it has been a couple of weeks and I’ve not heard anything back. Other than the trouble getting the product setup initially I’m very happy. The temperature measurements seem to be very accurate and I love the simplicity of the product.

Also being able to just drop the probes in the dishwasher is really great. Overall very happy with the “MeatStick WiFi Pro Set | Unlimited Range Wireless Meat Thermometer App Enabled Low & Slow BBQ, Smoker, Stove Top, Oven, Deep Frying, Sous Vide, Rotisserie, Kamado”, I would have given it 5 stars if I hadn’t had so much trouble with the initial setup.

My biggest disappointment with this small Bluetooth meat thermometer is that I can’t use it on the grill since flare-ups can destroy it. It costs too much to risk it. Since I don’t see the point in using it with sous-vide cooking, it has been relegated to oven and stove top use in my house.

That’s not bad since it remains useful, but it’s more limited than I would have liked. That said, even in high-heat environments such as a deep fat fryer, the MeatStick can supposedly work. It just cannot handle direct flame since that can exceed the 500 or so degree F limit.

The MeatStick Mini measures 3. 75″. The probe is about 2. 5″ long and must be inserted completely inside the meat. Because of that length, most meat/poultry/fish cuts will require that you insert it through the side.

This doesn’t seem to be a problem even with smaller pieces like salmon filets since the probe seems to measure along the whole shaft — or at least in the middle of it. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be as accurate as it is.

The required app, while requiring more steps to set up than I’d like, is both helpful and accurate. It comes with loads of preset temperatures and cooking environments, and it will remember your past cooks so that you don’t have to go through all the steps to set up something you’ve already prepared.

It even warns me when my meat is almost to temperature and then tells me to remove it so that it can get up to the right temperature while resting. You do have to change location settings on your phone and take it off silent.

I figured that I could leave my iPhone on silent and have it alert my Apple watch, but it doesn’t seem to have notifications enabled that would allow that. Since I always have my phone on silent, it is a pain.

A simple update to the app could fix that. The Bluetooth range is limited, especially in enclosed cooking environments, but I don’t find that a problem. The charging base is appropriately small, and it requires two AA batteries, not included.

For the price of the MeatStick, the company should include those batteries. You do have to manually turn on the charging station both to charge the MeatStick and to turn it on. Except for the warning against flare-ups on the grill, the MeatStick Mini is a versatile meat thermometer.

Since I cannot predict whether my gas grill will flare-up, it remains inside, in the kitchen. It will be especially helpful for Thanksgiving since its wireless readings will allow me to rotate the turkey without pulling out the probe, as I currently have to do with the wired one that comes with my oven.

Overall, this is a great, compact meat thermometer. As soon as the company finds a solution to the grill flare-up issue, I’ll be in line to purchase that next generation. — Debbie Lee Wesselmann.

Alright so I thought this would be a good idea since I wanted to do the keto diet. Well although its effective as far as making you sleep and giving ypu a little more energy it also makes you very sick.

I threw up and had uncontrollable diareaah everyday. Not to mention it gave me sulfur burps. And just when you thought the meds had wore off an overwhelming feeling of nausa took over and no matter what you ate it come back up in some form.

It got to the point I had to hold a bucket to throw up in while dying on the toliet. Made it hard to work and care for my children for if the sudden feeling popped up and you didnt make it to the bathroom you were subject to prob poop your pants.

It would wake you up out of a dead sleep needing to run yo the bathroom because the diareaah was so intense. I do not reccommend this product unless your intention is to be bulimic and you enjoy sulfur burps nausa and diareaah.

Great, I been taking this product for maybe a month, and I can tell it works. I’m not as hungry as I use to be and do not crave sweets as much as before starting this product. The p. m. I do notice I sleep better and do not wake up in the middle of the night hungry or craving sweets, Only thing I notice is I have to force myself to drink water, could because it is winter and I’m not that thirsty.

This probe worked well for about one month before it started displaying inaccurate temperatures. Now it tells me that a cut of meat is 165 degrees when I just took it out of the fridge.

This is a well designed and thought out remote meat cooking thermometer. I will not barbecue poultry again without it! Got this to ensure the Xmas turkey was properly cooked. But I tried it out on whole chickens first cooked just right.

Wish Id had this years ago. It works via Bluetooth from the heart of my kettle style bbq, with the lid down-Almost a faraday cage! Yes, reallythe box kept near to the bbq acts as a repeater and I can see whats going on- inner meat cooking temp and ambient bbq temperature itself around my house.

Further if I use it on Wi-Fi. Brilliant. Expensive? Yes but so was the turkey. And so is my health. Absolute BBQ essential. Will be using to perfect oven roasts shortly. I am Richard Phillips. This is my own review and I dont take kindly to inducements to change my opinion.

I purchased the Meater + from Amazon and have use it 8 times. It no longer works and yes it is charged. Very disappointed in the quality of this product. From day one I could not move my phone more than 5′ away from the probe in my grill which is 160′ less than they claim it should work.

The probe also kept reading the ambient temperature at over 500 degrees when the ambient temperature was less than 400 degrees. The probe also read the internal temps much lower than the other thermometers I used to double check the Meater.

I could never trust the temps given from the Meater. I am avid griller and was excited at the possibilities of this product. I am disappointed that I wasted over $100 on this product. Save your money and spend it elsewhere.

This product does not work.

Would give the Block 5 stars based on easy setup, nice app, and the first few cooks. Worked as advertised and was very impressed. Since the first few cooks it’s been a 1 star product. Each time I turn the block on I never know how many probes if any will connect, but it’s never all 4.

I’ve cleaned the probes as instructed, made sure they are seated and charged, and tried multiple times to re-pair the probes but no luck. It’s a great concept that needs work to be reliable. I hope MEATER gets there.

In the meantime I have my trusty ThermoPro I use when not enough MEATER probes connect. I’m mostly using my ThermoPro….

I am really impressed with this Chef IQ Smart Thermometer. You can tell just by the packaging alone that this is a high quality product. After removing the packaging, the thermometer comes with a sleek looking rectangular box known as the “hub”.

That is where you charge the thermometer (probe) and it also “talks” to you. You must first download the Chef IQ app to get started. The instructions are simple and straightforward. You have to pair the hub with your bluetooth and register it.

It charges really quickly, just a matter of a few minutes and holds a charge for 40 hours. Once it’s set up and charged you can start cooking. The app is so easy to use. I was able to grill a piece of salmon without having to stand at the grill.

I was also able to monitor the temperature of the salmon and the grill at the same time. It also alerted me when it was time to flip the salmon over and when it was done. This saved me so much time not having to run back and forth the check to see if it was done or not! I am looking forward to using this when I cook a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner.

The app is also loaded with step by step recipes and videos using the probe amongst other cool features. I think the Chef IQ Smart Thermometer is completely worth the investment and highly recommend it.

I’ve had my MeatStick thermometers since last summer. What I can tell you is that this thermometer is the last one I’ll ever use. I have gone through a lot of thermometers in the past. The wires that connect to the probes are an absolute pain in the ***! Oh and did I also mention the extremely short lifespan of most of these wired thermometers?! I have a bag full of thermometers I don’t use anymore, because they all broke, and quit working, and always at the wrong time.

I understand the MeatStick is a little expensive but compared to the money I’ve thrown away on the ones that don’t work anymore, the purchase price is a drop in the bucket. I do recommend getting the Wi-Fi Bridge for sure.

The original MeatStick’s keep track of the internal temperature as well as the ambient temperature. The new Mini MeatStick also keeps track of the internal temperature, but does not have an ambient temperature.

So if I’m doing a cook that requires two thermometers, the Original MeatStick goes in first because of the ambient temperature, then I add a New Mini just to make sure it’s the same internal temp throughout.

I’ve had some communication back and forth with The MeatStick’s service department, no big deal just some questions. They were so helpful. Making sure all of my questions were answered and that I’m very happy with my MeatStick.

If you’re looking for a thermometer, look no further than the MeatStick, you won’t be disappointed.

This is awesome. I love the fact I can set it up on my phone and it alerts me when my food is ready. Haven’t found anything to complain about yet.

I bought this to help me monitor a smoked brisket on a Weber Kettle. I used one probe for grill temp, and one for meat temp. There are two grill grate clips included, which allows you to place the grill probe about a half-inch above the grate – that worked great, with one caveat: I was using the snake charcoal method (which worked amazingly well!), and as the burning coals made their way around the grill and approached the probe the grill temp jumped.

Once I relocated the probe the temp normalized again. The tip: make sure you locate the probe so that it isn’t directly above the burning coals. The audible alarm kept me focused on what was going on without having to pay close attention.

The cook took about 8 hours, and close to the end the low battery icon appeared. The included batteries probably aren’t high capacity – I’ll replace them with beefier batteries before the next cook. I enjoyed using this product, and recommend it for sure.

It doesn’t have a phone app, but I didn’t miss it.

My house is really long with my grills at one end and the kitchen at the other, I know, I didn’t design it. I was worried that the range would be an issue, however I am happy to report that it works great.

I am no stranger to Maverick products which is why I picked this particular BBQ thermometer. I once had a Maverick probe thermometer which I just left outside, probe and all or over five years directly exposed to the elements.

Snow, rain, same battery, it stayed right next to my grill, and never died! Well, it eventually died when I accidentally dropped it into my hot tub. Thus far this one seems solid (I will probably keep this one inside though).

I bought this for my husband and he absolutely loves it. Eye round roast came out perfect on the grill!!!! The wireless it fabulous. Easy to set up and use. 500 feet wireless is the bomb. Would highly recommend if you grill as much as well do.

This has changed the way I grill and smoke forever. This may be the most important device for cooking other than the device you cook with. I have had the meat thermometer for over a month and I have used it for grilling steaks, chops, and chicken.

I have also used it for smoking pork butt, pork loin, and a prime rib and it has taken all the guess work out of cooking. Results in the quality of food have been phenomenal thanks to this little device.

It is worth every penny.

6 probes are just great!..I used 2 probe for the smoker temp and meat temp. I used 1 probe for my propane grill .I used 1 probe for my refrigerator temp and one probe for my hot tub temp.. so awesome

I was hesitant to spend this kind of money on a thermometer, but I took the plunge after one too many disappointing brisket results. Just a couple of cooks in and it’s proven it’s worth its weight in gold.

The ambient thermometer showed that the temp gauge on my smoker was way off (explaining why all my cooks took way longer than I had planned for), and with the bluetooth repeater it means I no longer need to constantly go out to check on how things are going.

I can even see when the smoke is starting to cool so I can anticipate when I’ll need to top up the fire with wood. If you’ve already dropped $1k+ on a barbecue setup then you might as well spend another $200, and at least ensure that you get the results that were promised in the BBQ brochure!.

Great concept however very disappointing that the phone needs to be directly next to webber for signal not to drop out when cooking with the webber lid on. Really disappointed with the lack of range when it advertises 50m range, we can’t even get 1 metre away with lid on webber.

It works well as far as assisting with cooking meat perfectly but the extra money for better Bluetooth range is a rort. Guttered it doesn’t live up to what it says it will do for $200 i expected alot more.

Pointless having a wireless probe when phone has to be directly next to webber anyway, so close I’m worried about heat damage to phone just so signal won’t drop out. My wired thermometer for under a $100 works just as well just doesn’t tell you approx cooking time.

It was a birthday present for my husband, it works but the Bluetooth range doesn’t live up to its promise. Overall disappointed with product for price.

This is an expensive little device, and it’s not for everybody, so I’ll try to help you decide whether you want or need it in this review. Here’s a little background about me: I’m in my mid to late 30s, and I’ve been cooking in a variety of ways for the last 20+ years.

I got interested in cooking in my teens, and I’ve learned a lot since then. That said, I’m no professional, just a considerably above average home chef. I also love all different types of meat, from red meats (beef and lamb mostly) and pork to poultry and fish/seafood.

In my years of cooking, I went from getting down the basics to trying to fine-tune my craft and just get as good as possible at the things I’d already learned rather than trying to add many new tricks to my repertoire.

One of the ways, I feel that it’s possible to greatly fine tune your cooking is to get the temps/doneness of different things just right. To a point, I feel comfortable cooking different pieces of red meat to the right doneness without a thermometer (the touch test is pretty accurate most of the time), and in general I have enough experience with my different devices to know when a hunk of chicken is done but still moist in the air fryer.

But a thermometer like this can offer an extra level of precision, especially when roasting larger (but perhaps not humongous) items. So, this thing sets up with an app on the phone. The range of the thermometer itself is fairly limited, but if you leave its little thermometer holder nearby, it extends the range significantly.

There are some potential concerns with the app, such as location tracking, so if that bothers you, you may want to steer clear. The app is pretty convenient, though, as it warns you immediately when the meat you’re cooking reaches the desired temp.

The size of the thermometer is good for most food types. If you have a massive turkey or rib roast, you may not get quite the depth you want, so it would make sense to set the desired temp slightly higher than you want the internal temp at the deepest point in the meat, but for most types of steak or hunks of chicken, it could work.

For smaller items, it works fairly well, but you should be aware that for it to function correctly, the entire metal part should be inserted into the meat. I love cooking lamb **** chops, and I’ve struggled to get the metal fully inserted as you can see in the attached images.

Once I figured out an angle that was about right, it worked out, but I couldn’t really get it inserted to hit the furthest point inside, closest to the bone. For medium pieces of meat, it’s fine, and if you’re cooking multiple, you can come up with roughly uniform results if the pieces are similarly thick or you adjust timing for thickness differences.

Ultimately, if you’re doing a pretty good job getting food cooked to the right temps already with either nothing or a non leave-in meat thermometer, you probably don’t need this, but just because you don’t need it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have it.

It might be an extra level of convenience and precision that you’ll appreciate, even if it’s not a total game changer, which is how I’d describe it for myself. If you love cooking but you struggle to get temps right, it could be a game changer.

I did have to wait until ‘grilling season’ (in other words, being warm enough to sit outside with a beer and watch the meat cook). so it took a little longer than expected to get these on the grill. My first test was a 4lb tri-tip, which is a cut that I’ve smoked on my Texas-style offset smoker many times and am quite familiar with.

My prior setup was a two-probe one, with one in the meat and one clamped in the smoker just above it. I really liked the concept of having a wireless setup with a single probe capable of measuring both ambient and internal temperature.

It’s just a good design – you get to know the temp right next to the item you’re cooking, so if you have a setup that’s notorious for temp variance like an oil-barrel offset system you’re feeding with seasoned wood, you’ve got some good data to work with.

I started off with the combo probe in the thick/wide end of the tri-tip. The instructions state to insert the probe all the way up to the hilt to get the most accurate readings, which I did. This ran me into my only real issue with this setup, and that was that the ambient temperature was only available on the long probe, which was too long to be placed in the center of my cut without sticking out.

I ended up sticking both long and short probes in so I could have both ambient readings and a reading at the perfect place within the meat. I also set up the app with the “X” base as an extender. This is absolutely great.

I had reception throughout my house, through walls, without a problem at all. The app stays running in the background and keeps a silent notification running so you can access temp readings very easily, and it alarms you when you’re close to your set temp so you have time to get back to your grill and check over things.

All in all, I had a perfectly cooked tri-tip with a lot less guesswork than I normally have. The closer monitoring of interior temperatures was very helpful here, especially due to the natural variations when using split hardwood.

The only thing that would have made the process easier was if there was an outside temp sensor on the Mini probe, because I got a lot of false ‘done’ messages from the big one due to placement. I’d see the Mini being the more useful size, especially for things like tri-tip, chicken, small turkeys, and fish, with the regular size being good for brisket and larger birds.

I really look forward to smoking a brisket with these. I’ll put the short probe in the point and the long one in the flat I think. In summary, these will make a great gift for any backyard barbecuer in your life.

I have a pellet grill that has two temperature probes. I ordered this meat thermometer so that I would have a separate temperature system that I could use in conjunction with the grill’s probes to ensure that I was getting proper temperature readings when I was grilling.

I really like this thermometer. I could tell when taking it out of the packaging that it is well-built. It is not a lightweight thermometer like others that I have owned. The probes are high quality and have long leads.

The thermometer is loaded with features, and it has a claimed transmitting range of 500 feet, which is quite a long distance for a digital thermometer. The kit comes with a transmitter, a receiver, two probes, a grill clip, four batteries, and a manual.

The probes come with a probe winder that keeps them organized when not being used. The grill clip is used to hold one of the probes in position off the grill to track the grill temperature, rather than the meat’s temperature.

The manual is detailed and provides all of the information needed to use the device, except for adequate information on how to insert the batteries into the receiver. The manual shows the location of the battery compartment for the transmitter, but not for the receiver.

Unfortunately, it is not clear just by looking at the back of the receiver where the battery compartment is and how to open it. I initially did not want to start prying on anything for fear of breaking something, but I eventually was able to pry open a latch that revealed the battery compartment.

This latch opens from the very top of the back of the receiver. Before its first use, I followed ThermoPro’s online procedure for checking the calibration of the thermometer. This is not a required, or even suggested, procedure; I just wanted to check.

The results showed that both probe’s calibration was spot on. I also tested the probes in boiling water. Taking into consideration the altitude adjusted boiling temperature at my home, they were again spot on.

If you repeat the boiling test, keep in mind that unless you are at sea level, the actual boiling temperature decreases with an increase in altitude. With these test results I have great confidence in this thermometer’s accuracy.

The two probes can be independently programmed. They can both be set to measure the same type of meat and doneness, or different meats, or different doneness, or one probe can measure meat and the other the grill’s internal temperature.

The thermometer’s programming has preset temperatures for various meats and doneness that can be set or, if desired, overridden. The device will alert you when the temperature reaches the set point. You can set a minimum and/or maximum temperature that, if exceeded, will also issue an alert.

This is a good feature for monitoring grill temperature during long cooks. A count up/down timer feature is also included.

I’ve had several wireless cooking thermometers over the years, and I’ve even had a ThermoPro wireless cooking thermometer before (TP07), and to date, this is the best wireless thermometer I’ve owned.

In my opinion ThermoPro got this one right. It’s a pleasure to use. I like it a lot. Using this wireless thermometer is as simple as can be. Simply insert probe 1 into your meat, turn the transmitter and receiver on, select what you’re cooking, set the doneness level of the meat, and that’s it, you’re pretty much good to go.

And, of course, you can setup probe 2 to monitor the temperature of a second item or piece of meat if you wish. I became interested in this wireless thermometer primarily because of the shortcomings of my previous thermometers.

And the main shortcoming for me has been the wireless range. The manufacture’s stated ranges are, of course, their achieved ranges under ideal conditions, not typical conditions. Consequently, none of the thermometers until this one would send a reliable signal to every room in my house.

My home office is the farthest room from my barbecue and smoker, and this is the first wireless thermometer that actually keeps its wireless connection while in my office. Additionally, I think this type of wireless thermometer is far better than the Bluetooth/smartphone thermometers.

And that’s because it gives you an always-on display unit/receiver. You can get the current temperature of your meat with a mere passing glance at the receiver. That’s simply not the case with Bluetooth/smartphone thermometers, and that’s a really big negative in my book.

So, if you’re looking for a wireless cooking thermometer, this is the first one that I can wholeheartedly recommend. It feels beefy and well built, it’s super easy to use, and the useable range in real world conditions is excellent.

I’ve used Maverick wireless thermometers, Weber’s iGrill setups, and many generics. I’ll say that the biggest competition for this is the generics (sometimes price does win out). If you’re not going for the cheapest solution, get this.

This setup just works. It works every time. It works without any hassles. It doesn’t require pairing, Bluetooth, or apps. This won’t become defunct when that app becomes unsupported or ask for all sorts of permissions to your data.

It’s just a thermometer, a display, and a wireless display. The thermometer probes yield consistent results (between each other and my previous ThermoPro probes. This is unlike my iGrill where half my probes vary by 8-10 degrees F.

The range is superb (I never got anywhere near the range limit, but I did throw several walls in between with no issues. Compared the other units (including cheaper generics), I think the reliable temperatures, easy to use controls, and availability of ThermoPro replacement bits makes this a winner.

As an added bonus, I like the fact that the probes can be used for whatever. I have twice as many Web iGrill probes as I need due to the separate pit and food probes. None of that nonsense here.

I’m kicking myself for not buying this sooner. I bought this with the 700D4 (which includes two onboard probes), but the wireless functionality can’t be beat. My first smoke with the grill and the wireless thermometer was flawless.

I smoked two briskets and two chickens and was able to achieve a level perfection that I never had before. all food was juicy and flavorful. the best part was I was able to socialize with my friends that were over and didn’t have to worry about checking the temp.

I was in the kitchen, front yard, backyard all around the house and when the food reached the desired temp, I was alerted on my phone. I love the fact that I can select the option to time the food or be alerted when a certain temp is reached.

Aside from selecting from premade cooking options, you can also create a custom setting. Worth every penny and I wish I had bought this sooner.

My wireless thermometer worked awesome the few times I used it. When I went to use 2 months ago one of the probs would not work. I ordered 4 new one to have on hand. Today I was smoking some leg quarters and the base started beeping and flashing.

I replaced the batteries thinking that was what the problem was. New batteries did not fix it. It is now dead, sometimes it comes on but still does not work. So with that said, when it works it is awesome, for this reason is why I did not rate any higher.

Versatile, accurate, and reliable! I’m new to using a pellet grill/smoker, which has its advantages to traditional grilling. Since I have taken to longer, slower cooks, a good thermometer was a necessity.

With its 6 probes, accurate readings, and long Bluetooth connectivity, all of my cooks have been right on! Do t hesitate! This is the one to get!.

We grill a lot of fish in the summer, and lamb and beef during the winter. When grilling an expensive cut of meat, a Prime tenderloin for example, preserving the meat quality is imperative. A remote reading thermometer makes possible temperature monitoring while continuing to entertain guests.

Here in Alaska, it’s also often more comfortable to be inside rather than outside. All of these devices measure the temperature at the tip of metal probes, and transmit that temperature information to a receiver via a radio-frequency link.

This allows the user to remotely monitor the temperature at the probe tip. I researched these radio-frequency-based remote reading thermometers to replace a long-time device and chose the ThermoPro TP-20.

After thoroughly reading directions, I inserted the enclosed batteries (very convenient), inserted the two temperature probes, and the sender and receiver established a radio-frequency link, with no need for my assistance.

The two probes showed the same temperature probes provided the same temperature value, a quick check that the device was calibrated. I’ve not owned a dual probe remote thermometer before, but I used them both as I monitored the two ends of a 6-pound tenderloin.

My family has rare-meat lovers and well-done lovers, and being able to monitor the thin and thick ends of the tenderloin allowed me to adjust the various heat sources on a gas grill. I usually use a charcoal grill and don’t have the ability to control the heating to this degree, but it’s still a useful piece of information.

Of course I log the data, so the temperature differential will also be interesting to log. When planning a meal, it’s useful to know that a 6-pound tenderloin, cooked on gas, with the meat at this temperature and outside temperature at that value, will require 1:30 to cook.

The manufacturer claims that the sender and receiver will communicate over a 300-ft maximum distance, a distance that I did not measure, but it certainly worked well through a 120-foot distance and through heavy plaster walls.

I am very impressed with that performance. The receiver, the controller of the system, has pre-sets for FDA-approved cooking temperatures for a wide range of likely-to-be-grilled foods. Although I didn’t use the feature, the device also allows one to set other temperatures, instead.

One can change from Fahrenheit to Celsius degrees, as well as access a timer and other features. Read the directions!Directions are easy to follow. The device was well-packaged, and included everything as advertised.

It’s easy to use and provides accurate temperature information. My first use was for an almost-two-hour grilling of a tenderloin cooked over gas. I enthusiastically recommend this device.

I purchased this remote thermo because it lacked the significant percentage of negative reviews of other popular ones. Very pleased with this product. Works as advertised. Pairs without problems (many report problems with others).

Great tool which allows you to accurately hit finishing temps without opening the BBQ and losing heat. Lots of pros already posted in reviews, so below are some of my cons:- Biggest: Temp settings increment up only.

Inconvenient, esp if you overshoot your target temp and have to wrap all the way around again. – Alarm icons are small and its easy not to notice you dont have the alarm on- Oven high temp alarm cannot be set to low temps.

For example, when cold smoking cheese, I want to know if temp exceeds 150F. no can do. – Curved food probe. Not sure why they do this, but can make it inconvenient to position inside BBQ and to stow.

– Probe connections not marked to indicate which port is for food probe and which for BBQ probe. Minor, but inconvenient first few times as you have to look at product image to see which port to use.

– On/Off button on remote is easily activated with just a light quick touch. can turn on easily in storage or off accidentally. – Multi function buttons are not intuitive as some functions not labelled on them.

It would be a great enhancement to be able to save alarm profiles and recall them later. For example, save a profile for a food type (brisket, ribs, fish, cheese. ) and then recall it later rather than having to set it all up manually again (with that inconvenient increment only navigation).

Update March 8, 2016:Still very pleased with this product after many uses. Updated info re temp ranges:At least on the unit I have, documemted temp range settings vary from actual. Table below shows documented vs actual respectively.

Food HI: 32 – 572F, 32 – 573FBBQ HI: 140 – 572F, 227 – 573FBBQ LO: 32 – 554F, 225 – 349FMy personal preference would not be to have arbitrary ranges, but allow the full range of temps from at least 0 – 575F.

This would make the device more flexible and allow me to set whatever values are appropriate for what Im trying to do. For example, the BBQ temp ranges on my device make it useless for cold smokingA question was asked regarding using for beer brewing (on model 07, but my response below pertains to the 08).

There are applications where this device could be used, especially if manufacturer would eliminate these arbitrary range limits. As is, only the “Food HI” range is relevant to brewing. For example, mash temps range from 145F to 165F so it could be used to monitor mash temps.

Fermentation temps range from about 32F to 65F so could be used for monitoring ferm temps too. Question for vendor, can I update the firmware on my device so it matches documented temp ranges? Better yet, can you supply a version that eliminates these arbitrary limits?December 2016 Update:One full year and still very pleased with this product.

Did have one temp probe go inaccurate on me. Bought a couple of replacement probes and so far no more failures. So, good to do occassional sanity checks on displayed temps to catch a malfunctioning probe.

I purchased the ThermoPro TP20 primarily to use when smoking meat/poultry in my masterbuilt gas smoker. I used to use a combination of an iGrill bluetooth thermometer that would send the smoker box temperature reading to my smart phone along with a standard corded digital thermometer to check the meat temperature.

Using the iGrill was okay, but I would always get bluetooth dropouts and have to reconnect and stuff. Plus I had to physically go out to my smoker to check the meat temperature. I could have purchased another iGrill probe and kept with the smartphone connection, but I was sick of disconnects – oh, and all the while my smartphone battery is draining and I can’t really roam too far away.

So I decided to look for an alternative and found the ThermoPro TP20. I used the ThermoPro for the first time to smoke a whole turkey for Thanksgiving 2018. The ThermoPro worked flawlessly. Both the probes report the temperatures from the base station to the remote station.

Also both of the temperature probes are a good size, really substantial compared to other probes I have used. I was able to program max temp thresholds and received alerts when for instance the smoker box temperature raised too high.

I could leave the remote station in the kitchen and not worry about having my smartphone tied up with this nonsense. There were no disconnects between the probes and the base or remote stations at all.

I did not test how far I could wander with the remote station though – all I know is that it performed much better than the iGrill bluetooth connection within the same vicinity. And that vicinity was really as far as I needed it to go – I can keep it in the kitchen, it works, no disconnects, I’m good.

I was highly impressed by this device and glad I didn’t need to tie up my smartphone anymore – and now I could use my smartphone’s bluetooth connection to connect to a portable speaker for some music rather than temperature readings.

I recommend this to anyone who is interested in monitoring the temperature of 2 items at one time (i. e. : maybe two meats, or maybe just one meat and your grill/smoker box temperature). I like the rubberized skin that the devices are covered with – they are bright orange so I can find the remote station quickly and will protect the devices from minor drops.

This is easily a 5 star product. It was easy to set up and use and provides nice convenience so you don’t have to hover around your grill/smoker all day.
