20 Best Wild Turkey Deterrent (2022 Updated)

Walmart I purchased these ultrasonic animal repellants because every year we plant a garden and every year we deal with pests, namely rabbits and raccoons. They ravage around our yard and devour the delicacy of our garden.

We have done everything from spraying to electric fences. We saw an advertisement for ultrasonic and thought we would give it a try. We purchased these because we liked the idea of just simply putting them in the ground and forgetting about them.

Because they are solar powered, we don’t have to deal with posts and wires for electric fences. It took less than 5 minutes to set up and worked within 25 days. I’ll update later in regards to how they fared during the rest of the summer.

I live in a neighborhood that has all sorts of wild life. Bears, deers, squirrels, wild turkey , racoons and territorial birds that keep knocking on my windows! Although I love seeing the ‘wild live’ but they can be distructive and annoying.

I was glad to try this product. I love that it doesn’t harm them but just keep them away from my garden and my windows! and I dont have to worry about changing batteries. Set up was easy peasy. The birds at my windows are gone and it looks like my garden too is getting some ‘rest’.

So Happy with this purchase !.

Did not work for me. I live in Arizona and have lots of sun to charge this device. No matter how much the plug in or sun charged this, it would only turn on at night if i was within 1 foot of it. I tried multiple settings.

I tried reading reviews for tips and tricks. I even exchanged it for another device and I got the same results. I have no idea how other people rated this device so well. Unless they did not accurately test this before leaving review OR I just happened to get 2 duds.

I definitely got my money back for this.

This product is miracle worker! I planted some apple trees and quickly found out that the deer love them during winter spring summer and fall ! So I put fences around them – very time consuming and expensive! Then I stumbled across this product and felt it was the best alternative to fences and sonic scare away devices (that need lots of maintenence).

I spread the initial application near my other deer love them perennials and low and behold the deer won’t even walk ner these plants now! This is a wonderful and highly effective product that is simple and easy to use – I always only applied it once whereas the directions called for further applications – I found none were needed.

I have a lot of raccoons in my area. One year they ripped the shingles and tar paper off of a part of my roof. Ive used traps before but then had to deal with the raccoon in it. This works very well for me as a deterrent to keep them out of the yard and off the roof.

hence only 4 stars. I don’t know if the product has been diluted or, its just my local deer are stubborn & retarded and continue to come out of the woods to chomp my hybrid greenery. It used to be that if I sprinkled around my property, I wouldn’t see deer for 10 months.

I sprinkled from this new bottle and the deer were back to chomp 3 days later. I would still recommend this product as someone else may have 100% success with it and, it is still the best low-maintenance product available.

Last year, I actually was able to enjoy blueberries from the bushes in my front yard, because I had purchased one of these owls to scare away chipmunks, squirrels and birds. The important thing I realized is you have to move it around, so the animals don’t start ignoring it.

I perched it within the branches, put it on the ground, changed the direction in which it was “staring” every few days. Worth every penny!!.

We’ve had small chickadees continually run into our picture window due to the reflection, so purchased one of these to scare them away. Within 5 minutes of setting this up the birds were sitting on the post right next to it.

Moved it to face them flying into the window, and the birds fly right past it. Maybe works for squirrels, but has zero affect on small birds.

Bought it to keep pesky birds from landing on my polywood chairs by my fire pit and proceeding to leave their droppings run all down the backs of the chairs. We have like 40,000 trees on the property so seriously birds? I have it hanging by a wire, from a pole right near the chairs.

Seems to be effective. I have seen deer stop in their tracks and just look for the noise and haven’t hit any deer in an over five thousand mile trip from MN to CA and back. Can be a bit distracting when conditions are quiet, on smooth pavement and speeds below 60 MPH you can hear the Deer Alert inside the vehicle unless you have some audio playing at moderate sound levels.

One of the three units I have purchased came with a defective inline fuse so it initially did not work. The fuse looked good but when tested it had no continuity. A bit hard to find a replacement as it is an old school glass automotive style that is shorter than standard.

A local trucking firm has installed these on their entire fleet of eighteen wheelers and have dramatically reduced the number of deer strikes from a couple per week to only a couple per year. So I have installed on all my vehicles.

Much louder than passive air flow whistles, but not enough to bother you. Air flow whistles are good. I run both on my vehicles. I use this one for extra protection. Keep in mind, they are mainly intended for night driving.

The deer will look at you sooner so you can see the reflection of their eyes giving you more reaction time. They do not actually scare the deer away, so day driving is not the intent of any deer whistle.

I have not installed this yet but I was pleasently surprised to find that it also came with mounting items such as tie-wraps, velcro, labled on-off switch plate with mounting screws, and an on-off toggle switch with long wires to run from inside the car to the front.

Instructions recommend using a 1/4 amp in line fuse. I would have been happy to pay a few bucks more if this was included as I think having an inline fuse is a good idea as the wires from the toggle switch are a small enough gauge that they would burn up before typical fuse in the car would pop on a shared circuit.

One positive and negative observation. the ultrasound signal is also accompanied by an audible chirp which humans can hear and it is loud enough to draw attention. So you are motivated only to use it while driving on the highway and turning it off in locals where humans and their pets a present.

Well besides being a riot to watch as he turns his head and naming him “Who”; he has actually done a good job. Our little woodpecker only tried a few times to peck at our chimney. Now we see him flying around and living on the giant saguaro in our back yard but he basically leaves our house alone.

We have a flat roof which they love but so far so good. He is weighted with gravel and sits in the middle on top of our chimney. I hope he keeps creating mystery for our woodpecker. Thank you for having “Who” available for us to purchase.

The robins and blackbirds could care less about this fella. Come rain they all congregate and share space in my garden with Mr. Owl. Works for the little guys but these bigger birds see him as a minimal threat.

Overall I’m slightly disappointed with the performance of the owl and how little the bigger birds care that he’s around. I do move it every night or two to ensure proper scare factor, however this doesn’t change the fact these birds just don’t care.

Update: Sept 1, 2018, after several weeks of no movement from my owl I decided to investigate as I had suspicions on how well this unit was sealed. Upon further inspection it was revealed the entire circuit board under the solar panel was corroded beyond repair.

You got me! Please don’t waste your money on this product, get pie tins and some string, way cheaper and entirely more effective!!.

I have bought other owls and this one was the same price as the others that I have bought but the eyes don’t light up and the owl doesn’t screech like the other owls that I have. It is over priced for what you get.

The eyes should light up and the owl should screech and head should turn for what I paid for this owl.

Spikes seem adequate so far. They are installed and I have others in the carport as well that are made of wire. The birds seem to be landing anywhere they can now but not nesting any longer. Let’s hope that all of this money that I spend and paid installers to put them up will work.

I should be able to enjoy my carport with the deck and be at peace in my own private area, and have a clean car!.

The greatest thing since sliced bread! So simple, yet effective. It solved an annual problem for me and I could customize to me situation. No more issues with very determined birds wanting the nest on my awning.

This product was purchased to keep birds but also squirrels off of a newly installed bird feeding area. I attached these onto a 10ft long 2×4 that was anchored onto 2 4×4 posts that were cemented into the ground.

I have multiple bird feeders hanging from the 2×4 beam. Perfect. The plastic is sturdy and does the trick. Much less harsh that the stainless steel spikes.

I work at a doggy daycare where we have to have these on us at all times and I really appreciate them. To be honest whenever a fight happens my first instinct is to just grab them and pull them apart so personally, I don’t use the citronella much.

I do know a dog trainer we work with who uses it ALL THE TIME though and he loves it. It does deter fights in most cases unless they’re really in a severe fight where they cannot be broken up. I would recommend using the spray first bc it’s an easy and quick way to get them to stop, and reaching in can get you very hurt.

I always just end up sticking my hands in and grabbing dogs but I will tell everyone else to use the spray!!! Our trainer also uses it on the more reactive dogs bc he says it has a calming effect on them.

It’s completely pet and human safe, i’ve seen this man spray himself in the face with citronella before to show people it doesn’t harm the dogs. He also likes to rub it on himself sometimes if the dogs tend to jump or nip.

I would say to definitely have one of these no matter if you’re a dog owner or you go to the park or not. It can be extremely helpful.

I have only deployed this spray twice in the past ten years, as a deterrent against dogs who have been off-lead and have approached me and my dogs in an aggressive manner. You have to be ready to use it at close range, so practise before deploying it.

A rapid and sustained (only a few seconds) spray will send the other dog running away. I have only used it on medium sized dogs, both bull terrier types, and only when there has been one dog. Thankfully, packs of dogs roaming the streets are a thing of the past.

I first purchased this spray after my cocker spaniel was savaged by a bull terrier who had escaped from its yard. Ever since I have never walk my dogs without it and continually check to make sure that it still works (and hasn’t leaked its contents).

While I may never use it again, just having it with me gives me greater confidence.

For years, we used this spray at the doggy daycare facilities to break up dog fights. It did work to break up the majority of fights oftentimes just long enough to get the dogs separated before they would attempt to resume fighting.

Direct Stop is a citronella spray meant to buy time and (hopefully) get dogs to release if they’re latched on. It will not end a dog fight completely nor stop a dog from pursuing you – continued defensive measures would still be necessary if the loose dog is not yet contained.

Direct Stop will not break up 100% of dog fights either. If a fight is serious enough or a dog persistent enough, not many things will work to deter or end it. Dogs will fight through water hoses sprayed in their face, ears being torn, being dumped in a pool, fire extinguishers emptied in their face – serious dog fights are hard to break up.

Many bark collars also use citronella so dogs with a history with bark collars are no longer detered by it. When purchasing this product, have reasonable expectations and a Plan B for if you are ever confronted by a loose dog when out with your dog or by yourself.

This is my first line of defense if I am confronted by an unfamiliar, aggressive dog but definitely not my only. It is also not a replacement for behavior modification. If your dog is fighting frequently with another dog in your home, please contact a trainer that uses scientifically supported methods.

Bird X gel did the trick. A Robin attacked its reflection on our bedroom and front entry windows. Lots of bird scrap all over. Not happening any longer thanks to Bird X gel. And my friends at Gilbert’s Hardware are great to work with.

Put some on top of an entryway hanging light over our front door. Birds were always landing on it. Now they do not but feathers are stuck to it now. Worse thing and I need help is that during the heat of the summer, some of the gel dripped down onto our paver stones.

It looks awful. Does anyone know how I can clean these spots from the pavers?.

I’ve tried hard to send this bird away but failed. I’ve searched for bird repellent I found several but I decided to choose gel repellant and it was excellent choice. We have applied this gel on the sides of the house.

The good thing it is transparent does not damage surfaces and very powerful to keep off woodpicker from approaching any more Recommendation from a friend.

Looks good on car,didnt use adhesive pads but cable ties did the job .Cant say they work as havent seen any deer attempting to ram the car.

Adhesive sticker is stuck on and will not come off. You will tear adhesive off of device.

A squirrel was entering our attic and getting inside the external wall of my daughter’s bedroom. Although we never saw the squirrel, we heard it scratching quite often, especially late in the evening and early in the morning.

Finding a way to plug in the device in the attic was a bit of a problem (I had to replace the single bulb fixture with a fixture with a outlet plug). As soon as I turned the device on, we heard scampering, then silence.

I placed the device as close to the problem area as possible. I was bit doubtful, since I have quite a bit of insulation on the attic floor, so the sound waves have to penetrate the insulation and then go to the wall below the attic floor.

Nonetheless, It has been about 6 weeks and we have not heard the squirrel since. We are very happen. We do not hear the device, nor does it bother our pet rabbits (admittedly they are several floors below the attic as we live in a tall urban rowhouse).

It really works! I have chipmunks living near my generator. A big hole was dug about 2 feet from it. I was concerned about damage. So I tried various remedies. Filled the hole with cayenne pepper, filled in the hole, sprinkled the cayenne pepper over the area.

3 days later, the hole was back. I did the same with Peppermint. Same result. Went to buy an over the counter spray at the hardware store. It smelled awful. I was sure this would do it. Same result. Poured a gallon of white vinegar down the hole.

Same result. Bought moth balls to fill in the hole. Same result. The most they would not re-dig their hole was 3 days. I bought this product. Day 6 – NO HOLE! Very, very pleased!.

I have one plugged in by my front door. Also put another in the garage when we noticed some rodent activity in the area due to some construction. I’ve seen one rat – it approached the back of the house and turned around and went back the way it came.

One did get up to the house when we had a heavy snow storm and died directly under the unit. Not a fun thing to find but it probably couldn’t find it’s way out. Who knows how these things think. No activity in the garage.

Bought it a little late for this spring season. Colors look amazing. Decoys seem a little heavy for carrying. Inflated them and they are holding nicely. Each decoy is supposed to have one folding stake and one carry bag.

The box they came in was pretty beat up. There was only one stake and one bag for the two of them. Called Cabela’s. No help except to give me customer service number for AvianX. Called AvianX. Awesome customer service.

They sent me the stake that was missing and the missing carry bag is on back order.

Pros- This decoy is extremely lifelike. I have yet to kill a bird that has attacked this decoy. I have had multiple birds come and turn right around after seeing him with a hen decoy. This decoy is like carrying around a basketball with a head and tail.

Heavy and awkward. If the ground is wet, forget about using the stake that comes with it. I had to upgrade the stake right away. Sold this decoy to get the Avian x Jake decoy thats not so aggressive for this upcoming year.

I bought this strutter decoy and it’s the best on the market! I love the interchanging heads (fighter and breeder) and tail feathers (provided, are so realistic, and option to use a real fan). Also, wing feathers can be installed and removed very easily.

Overall, highly recommend if you want a high-quality strutter in your arsenal.

I’ve been using H. S Strut’s “Raspy Old Hen” mouth call for about the last ten years. I tried several different company’s calls when I was first learning to use a mouth call; and as anyone who has tried a mouth call knows, they can definitely be hard to learn how to use and make them sound right! After a good bit of trial and error, and a lot of practice with various ones, I found that the “Raspy Old Hen” works the best for me! It’s one of the easiest to use, it holds up well to the abuse my mouth puts it through while I’m leaning against oak trees for hours during season, and it’s reeds keep their tension better than most as it gets worn from the season’s use (which would probably be the best selling point if the sound quality wasn’t so great).

I am a fan of H. S. Strut’s mouth calls in general, but I absolutely recommend this mouth call to fellow turkey hunters out there!!! And that’s to Novice & Experienced Hunters alike.

These are my favorite calls and couldn’t find them at my local big box store this year. Found these here and at a great price with free shipping. Received them in great time. Would recommend this site for your turkey huntin’ needs.

when i first got this call i thought it was great. sounded good and had a nice rasp to it but it didnt even make it to turkey season. the plastic broke when i tried bending it a little to fit my mouth.

have never had a problem with a mouth call breaking before! wont be buying more. i found one better and cheaper than this one and i got a nice turkey with it too. spend your money on a call thats not gonna break.

this stuff really works. I have numerous shepherd’s hooks for hummingbird feeders around my yard and the ant moats don’t work unless you refill daily. I bought this stuff a few years ago and following the directions it stops ants from climbing the pole and getting into the feeder.

Read the directions. It will last all season, unless it is so hot it melts off the pole but, rain and watering the yard won’t take it off or diminish the effects. I say it stinks, so I use rubber gloves when handling.

Hubby can’t smell. I keep leftovers in an old medicine bottle.

Love Nature’s Niche – Martha has an endless supply of everything for birds, backyards, gifts & more! She’s also extrememly helpful with whatever questions I have. I’m trying gel ant repellent that I put on my feeder poles to keep ants out of my hummer sugar water & oriole grape jelly.

We live on a sand hill so are constantly battling with ants! They are just starting to immerge & so far the gel is keeping them out my feeders. Happy that I don’t have to mess with moat cups any more.

My second purchase of this. Works very well and easy to apply. I have a thin black metal pole so it heats up and melts off maybe once or twice in the season, I just reapply. One tube goes a long way! Stores well.

Be sure to store out of high heat.

Walked 200 yds in a wide open field behind this fan. Got to 30 yds and sealed the deal! Couldn’t believe it. The fan triggered a fight attitude in the bird and had zero interest in running off.

Turkey season is not in yet, so I have not been able to use this in the field. However, it looks constructed very well, images is life like, & this product so far, with out putting it to the test by real life turkeys, is as advertised.

This decoy looks great. Haven’t got to use yet but counting the days till spring. Will give updates on results.

When I took this Yelper out of its package, I had to put the thing back together which is not a good sign! It has a thin wire which acts as its “spring. ” I had trouble with the part that makes the yelping sound staying in place.

I am not impressed with the structure of this device. As for sound, it does sound turkey-like. I haven’t taken it afield in large part because I’m afraid the thing will need 2 hands to operate which defeats the purpose.

Easy to use. Bought this fir my grandson who was having a bit of trouble using a mouth call. This easy to use yelper is giving him confidence about getting in to the woods for his first turkey season

It is easy to use and makes a good sound. at first. I believe it is critical to keep this box chalked and dry to ensure it sounds good. It got a little most through my coat in the rain and was done for.

I will place it in a baggy next time.

This kit is ok. The diaphragm with the stick wears to easy. It works for a couple times but then you have to re finish it and that can take a bit. If you want something quick to get back in the game this one is not it.

Purchased this for our 8 yr old neighbor to help him learn turkey calling skills. Good price on a starter kit. recommend this for ones just starting out

I bought this set 10 years ago, it’s served me well. Since then I’ve add to my call collection but this slate call has brought in more dead birds than all my other calls put together.

Took significant modification to get the beard to fit at all and the upper plate barely covers the base of the fan. Of itself that may not be significant for most birds but leaves zero room for error in your prep and drying of the fan, particularly with enough foward feathers.

Too much customization needed, could have made my own. as I have done previously. Tried this to save time, didn’t really. Plus the modifications showed a bit, it is simply a thin, simulated wood veneer over pressed cardboard.

Probably undo and make my own mount again.

Looks great out of the box cannot wait to get my fan in it. Would suggest some modifications if I had my druthers concave impression where fan goes to allow for thicker fan base. Will have to do some modifications to this one to ensure proper fit / function.

This was a very simple kit to use and complete. It took me about 20 minutes to finish mounting the fan & beard, then improvised by super glueing the spurs onto the plaque. Made an attractive and unique mount.

I cant belive this call was less than $30 and it belts out dozens of realistic wildlife sounds. Loudly. Must be amazing with a small set of speakers attached. Really cool device with excellent LED display of the sound.

Hand held size and runs on a couple AAA batteries. Very realistic tones of toms and hens. Also locator calls of yotes and hawks and crows. Scares the heck out of my housecats. Worth it just for that.

Check local state regs if this is approved for hunting purposes FYI.

Gobblers responded great to this call in the tree and on ground. I hunt in Florida panhandle, eastern strain of turkey. Gobble sounds great too. Called up two gobblers my third time out hunting with this call.

This call is great, plenty loud with an adjustable volume, and very easy to use. Only critique is that the buttons are small so it could be an issue using with gloves. I was driving the neighbors turkeys crazy with it so come hunting season I know itll work.

I bought these for my son and daughter-in-law as a christmas present . . Definitely worth buying. . Lovely colour, great quality. . I love them so much im going to buy myself some after Christmas ! !

Needed a reasonably priced set of pans for a flat we were equipping & these fit the bill perfectly. Not the heaviest of pans but they are pretty decent for the price & all pans have lids! Can’t comment on their ease of use or cleaning as it’s not me that’s using them.

These were delivered within 5 days of ordering so no complaints from me regarding the supplier’s delivery service.

They looked much better than they really are, they are the kind of cheap thing one might buy a student to get them through the tough days at uni. Not for family domestic use. I went and bought something similar in looks but a very much better quality for 10.
