14 Best Winches For Atv (2022 Updated)

No specific instructions included for my Can Am Outlander. I had to mount contactor on left side on top of the heat shield. I found instructions to take body oanels off my ATV on google. Once I did that it went easy.

I have not used it yet, but it seems of good quality. Based on the amp draw. I would leave the engine running when ever you use the winch, so you dont end up with a dead battery. These new ATV’s dont have a rope start anymore.

I got to use the winch this morning to move some limbs out of a tight area where I couldnt tow them. Wow is this thing powerful! I kept the revs up on the engine to keep the amp output up on the engine.

I moved some major limbs out of the trail. Im very pleased so far.

Great winch, functions well. Instructions could have been better, had to fabricate spacers out of flat aluminum to fit it into my built-in mount on my 2019 Kawasaki Mule MX-PRO LE. UTV is so new that there aren’t any you-tube videos out there yet on installing aftermarket accessories.

Mounted my remote plug in on the front of the grill guard. 14 foot remote is much nicer than the shorter one that came with my Viper winch for my ATV. Also like that it comes with a roller fairlead and hook stopper (even though a 1 piece hook stopper works better than this two piece one.

I may buy a one piece slip-over stopper.

Shipped surprisingly quick. KFI mounting bracket for the fairlead was a concern because of the way my UTV Giant front bumper mounts but it ended up being a non-issue because the UTV Giant plate on the bumper mount was thin enough to bend around the overlapping area.

The directions for install were pretty good and I really took my time with it over two mornings. Did the bracket install on morning 1 and the wiring on morning 2. It seems very solid. I have been riding with it one time so far and didn’t need it but did go thru two water crossings and everything still seems to work good as new when testing after the ride.

I have had one on my machine for 5 years now and it has seen alot of use and abuse and just keeps working. I have been so impressed that I bought this one for my wife’s side x side

The KFI 4500 winch works great the stealth model fades away into the front of the razor so it is a clean look. Install is pretty straight forward as long as the directions are followed. The directions are well detailed and easy to follow.

Very pleased with the quality of this winch. I also purchased a KFI winch plate and install went very smooth. Easy instructions and overall a quality product.

The device is portable, easy to use, convenient to grab from my truck and use when electricity/ battery power not conveniently available. I loaded a Model A pickup onto my trailer with just my wife and myself available to get it loaded.

It didnt even take one whole battery charge of the drill battery to get it loaded.

I bought this model for my current manufacturing job. The portability and lightweight is a bonus when moving skids of materials after a line goes down and I need room to make repairs. So glad Summit Racing had them in stock.

Hopefully Warn will continue production of these winches. It makes my work loads easier.

Used 3 together w/ other tools in a -15 degree freezer to reconfigure a portion of the existing rack system where a forklift couldn’t access. They really helped move the job along. Helped quickly overcome a pallet flow lane skewing issue we couldn’t have dealt with using traditional prybars and levers.

See plenty of possible install uses in the future.

Short version – Great Product with small room for improvement Long Version – First off, this thing is solid. Quality built, wiring harness and everything appears to be built well. Cannot comment on usage since I just installed it.

Things to consider 1. In the instructions, it states to remove the front panel that connects to the upper a arm bushings, and replace it with the RC fairlead panel. However, the RC panel does not attach to the frame, only to the a arm bushings.

Without connecting to the frame, you risk wearing out the bushings faster. I opted for installing the RC over this factory plate. (If you remove the washer from the a arm flange nut, you do not need to get longer a arm bolts) 2.

I wired direct to battery. I could have used a little extra supply cable length. Also, the terminals are too small to fit into the stock RZR battery cable bolt. I found an old bolt to use, and swapped it out.

3. Some people have trimmed the front plastic panel to fit the RC fairlead panel. With a little bending and finesse, you can pry it around the panel to avoid trimming. 4. The rocker switch is not back lit.

Not a huge deal, but would look good with all of the other switched backlit. All in all I’m glad I purchased. Once I put some use to it I will revisit and add additional feedback.

Fantastic quality as expected from RC! The synthetic rope is safer to use and easier to handle than steel cable. Easy to install. The 3 position rocker switch fits securly in standard size rectangle switch openings.

The colored heat shrink on the cable terminals coordinate with painted/ marked terminals on the solenoid. All necessary hardware is included, minus cable/ zip ties. Works great on our 2 seat Can Am Maverick X3 DS Turbo RR, with plenty of extra pulling capacity.

Tips: Winch bolt pattern is 4. 87″x3″ while the Can Am brand Maverick Pre Runner front bumper bolt pattern is 6. 625″x3. An adapter plate must be fabricated for proper fitment. Winch cables are 6ga wires with.

Received, quickly well packaged. Seems to be a quality winch. Time will tell. Everything need to mount was include. However cables to go from battery to winch were about way too short, so I had to purchase both positive and ground battery cable.

To have made th cables about 2 foot longer would helped. Also wish the winch came with a remote, even if the price was slightly higher to cover the cost. Overall very pleased with the winch and it was a great deal.

This is my third Viper Midnight ATV winch and they all are still going strong and haven’t given any problems. One gets used pretty often on the Farm. It is equipped with all metal planetary gears. Installation is easy for anyone with basic mechanical skills.

Got this to replace a chinese el cheapo. Installs easy. Nice and quiet. Very satisfied.

Some awareness for buyers: Fair-lead does not mount on winch. You will have to fabricate a separate fair-lead bracket. Also, switch control wire was a bit short for solo loading a motorcycle on an 8 foot long tilting flatbed trailer.

I extended it by splicing in a 4-wire 4-foot trailer connector. This simplifies plugging in control wire switch, too. For power in from 12V Car battery, I installed a flat plate of plastic to the winch tower on trailer (winch is on a tower because trailer tilts), and wired power in to two bolts mounted on plastic plate.

A regular car jumper cable is used to connect to the two bolts to power the winch, so you don’t have to add wiring to the car for the trailer winch. It works really nice. I’d call it a good value.

Great price, awesome winch, would have been five star for installation but my quad is older, and doesn’t have alot of electronics to hook up to.

Haven’t had to use it yet but installed on ATV and ready to go.

I’ve own another and used every year for 8 years before having to replace it. To much swamp and river crossings took it out I believe. It work great even the quick release but that hasn’t worked on this one as yet ! The winch worked on control in and out so I wouldn’t send it back.

It still got me out of some bad holes. The price is climbing up to the rest of the market which is to bad!!! I tied Warn also on serval machines in the past. Polaris is also another version of Warn you cannot get the replacement parts you need.

So they would probably like you to buy new. one of the more expensive winches. I would rather not buy or depend on a Warn again.

This is a difficult install into the Wolverine R-Spec. You have to change terminal eyelets and crimp on new ones, you have to either wiretap or buy an extra Yamaha part to plug in remote module and dash mount module.

My contactor had a short in it. Took me a lot time to figure it out. Had to order a new one from company. Motoalliance was pretty good on support but upon reflection I should have gone with a different and know quantity.

Want a superior quality winch? At half the price of a Warn? Buy Viper. In the box you get any and all wiring, extra necessities, and the winch itself does not disappoint or leave you stranded. Grateful to safe some extra money as well!.

The unit comes with everything needed to make it work with my Yamaha Grizzly, except the mounting plate. I had to purchase the plate separately from the winch unit package. There are other more powerful winches from Warn but I decided to get the 2000 size because my ATV only weighs short of 700lbs.

I figured that the unit has nearly 3X the lifting power of the total unit weight. I purchased the Warn mounting plate and found out that the bolt holes did not match up with the mounting points on the Yamaha Grizzly exactly, 1/2 hole off due to the crooked mounting points on the grizzly.

I needed to use a round file in order to oval out one of the holes so it would fit. I also needed to drill my own mounting holes for the contactor box to be mounted on. Easy task with a drill and metal bit, 2 holes.

When all was said and done it worked fine. I used a wire splice clip and cut the ignition wire that comes with the grizzly. DO NOT CUT THE RED ONE, USE ONE OF THE OTHER 2 WIRES. If you use the red one, the winch switch will always have power going to it.

When you use one of the other 2 wires, the winch switch will only have power when the ignition switch comes on. This hook up is better so the battery wont get drained. The 2500 power Provantage may be better because it can pull more weight but for my use the 2000 should be good enough.

I haven’t got to test the winch much but plan on using mainly for lifting my plow. The price was great and shipping was absolutely fantastic. I have never installed a winch before but not quite as bad as I thought.

The most difficult part was wiring it. The instructions are clear though and even for a first timer it was not that bad. Just due to the ease of installation and quality of warn products I would absolutely buy again.

My buddy has a Polaris 500. He pulled out his dead battery and had his friend’s kid install the new battery. His Warn winch did not work so he bought a new Warn and asked me to install it. I found the kid did not replace the ground wire to the selinoid and that’s why the winch did not work.

He had me put the new one on and now he has a spare. His first one was used for operating his snow plow with much success so he got another.

The good first. Shipping fast. Has everything you need in a very organized box with plenty of hardware, wire and winch. Now on to the installation. If it mounts with the hardware supplied, you can have it in, wired and working in 2 hours.

Now the bad. This will not fit a 2018 Yamaha Kodiak 450. The bottom plate sitting on exactly where you need the bolts to line up causes the bottom part of the gear housing to be sitting on the ATV frame.

Won’t work! So being that I can make most things from nothing I figured that if you slide the winch all the way to the right side of the ATV it will come off the frame and sits perfectly. However, now only one hole lines up.

You will also need bigger washers then what they give you, this of course is after you pull the front bumper and drill 3 new holes in your front bumper assembly. I suppose if you could weld that would have been an option as well.

That problem doubled the install time to 4 hours but I did get it in. It’s not centered, but functional. Do better knowing about figment especially when you shop by the model you have. I am sure I am not the first person to discover this! It said it would fit my machine.

I should’ve had to drill new holes!.

Installed on a 22 Pro XP. The instructions included in the kit did not advise that the winch would have to be un-spooled and reversed, and that the wires would have to be reversed from blue to yellow and yellow to blue where they connect to the winch.

I used the Super ATV You tube video for installation which I thought was great, but still made no mention of having to do that. After installation was complete and cable was incorrect, I found a thread on social media advising that there was an online set of instructions which advised the wiring and spool had to be reversed.

After discovering this fix, I had to disassemble and reassemble to correct the issue. After corrections were made the winch seems to work fine and I am happy with it. The winch seems solid and of quality.

Time will tell. Please add a note to the instructions that the above items may have to be reversed for certain models. Thanks!.

The winch seems of good quality. Installation instructions are almost nonexistent. Do some research before you start to install. If you are mechanically inclined then you shouldn’t have too much trouble.

The remote doesn’t work. It is junk. Funny it was apparently inspected by QC, but the LED doesn’t even light up. Tried new batteries and everything. Overall, the winch is of good quality and I would recommend.

The bracket that they supply with the Honda Pioneer winch is a universal bracket which doesn’t line up or work on a Pioneer. I expected that purchasing a winch from Honda offroad designated for a Pioneer would come with the correct bracket for the install.

They also offer a military discount which is not mentioned on their website but mentions on the “thanks for the purchase” email they send. Both of these items would have been nice to know ahead of time.

Just a little disappointed.

I put this winch along with the winch mount on my 2012 Polaris Ranger 800 XP, and I am very happy with how it turned out. High quality winch at an affordable price point. Clear instructions. Good looking fit and finish.

I originally gave this winch a 4 star after I used it once and it seemed decent. It has now been less than three months and just after a few pulls the winch stop working. It spins but will not engage.

I emailed the company but no response. I called the number for their California store. No answer, ever. I attempted to contact them on Facebook. Nothing. This product is not good and the company is very poor.

I didn’t like the wiring that connect to the winch (blue & yellow) they were very short. Had to buy longer wires to connect to winch and also the 4 way roller was very small (the holes did not line up).

The 4 way roller did not fit the 2014 Polaris Ranger 900XP mount and so I had to modify it. Weld it and then bolted it to the Ranger bracket. I didn’t like the bolts it came with; they were stainless steal.

Overall, I spent more money for parts and should bought a factory one.

Pretty much need one year round in the Rockies here. Very good quality & value. Mounting holes & bracket were a match.

I bought this winch primarily for a snow plow. Installation was pretty easy if you don’t get in a hurry. Trickiest wiring was tying into the wire that has power when key is turned on. I just followed the wires from the key and determined which one had power when key was on and not when key was off.

Everything was provided including connection to tie into this wire. There is a floating sleeve on the synthesis rope that I removed. I was told it is to place over an obstacle when winching to protect rope.

I can’t complain about this winch one bit. I’ve used and abused it for about 1 year now and it’s never done anything but pull me out. The synthetic rope is holding up nicely too! I’m going to be moving this winch to the rear of my KQ 400 and buying it’s bigger brother V3000-S to go on the front of my bike.

No reason other than wanting to see if I can notice a difference between the two winches, otherwise I wouldn’t hesitate buying this winch again. If you are debating on the wire or the rope. Go with the rope and don’t look back.

So much easier to work with and no worries if the rope breaks of getting injured.

I’ve owned a couple of these. The first one lasted well over 6 years with proper maintenance. This last one I haven’t had for more than 2 years. I only have to winch the boat a couple of feet onto the trailer since I drive it on.

As I was winching it, all of a sudden the side plate of the spool buckled and ripped like a tin can. I was not able to use the winch at all. Luckily for me I can drive my boat on but immagine the poor boater that has to winch a boat the whole way.

He would have been stranded! I don’t know who manufactures the Fultons now but they must be using cheap metal or less of it. I suppose for the price, getting 2 years out of it is OK?.

We spent time in the FL keys. The old winch broke. We’re happy West Marine had the perfect replacement! Easy change out from old to new part. Works perfect. Unloaded boat with little effort. Strong winds when we came back to dock.

Winch made the boat steady on the trailer even with the wind. Easy roll, boat was up, and we’re off to dinner. Thank you West Marine, Key Largo.
