20 Best Windbreaker For Cycling (2022 Updated)

I love this jacket. It’s lite, easy to pack, keeps the wind out, and it doesn’t create it’s own climate when I’m getting warmed up on a climb! My only wish is that this came in a women’s fit. The waist seam is a bit on the tight side since it is cut for men and their narrow hips.

I’m 5’7″ 147 lbs. with some curve in my hips. I purchased a small since it is men’s size. It fits great, but barely around the hips.

Pros: Super stowable, fits in my hip pack. Back flap vents and underarm vents really help with air flow, but keep water out. Rear pocket is super handy for snacks. Keeps very light water out during a quick mist, good DWR.

Great rear coverage. Cons: If you’re wearing with a hip pack, the rear pocket is not useable. If you wear with a back pack, the rear flap and pocket are blocked. I also wish it had at least one pocket.

Arms are a little short.

The material on this jacket is great. Plenty of ventilation located in the armpit area as well as the back. Fits true to size. Great for keeping the wind off of you. I would not use this for drizzly days, however.

Great stitching, also.

I’m very happy with this windbreaker. It’s exactly what I’ve been searching for in my size, 3XL. This jacket has become the extra piece of clothing I’ll bring along in the winter or the piece that I can take off and easily stow away as it warms up.

Mine will flap a little bit over 20 mph, but it’s not bad and somewhat expected for garment designed to be roomy enough to go over other riding gear. The high collar and larger size zipper work really together.

The jacket is a bag and a wind catcher. I would not have purchased it had I known this. When riding the wind fills the jacket puffing it up hindering visibility. Checking traffic with a quick glance over the shoulder is impossible as vision is blocked by the puffed-up jacket.

There’s no way to tighten the waist. A poor design – used it a couple of times and discovered this on windy days. Now it’s too late to make a return as the return policy states that the jacket can’t have been worn and that it must be returned within three weeks of receipt.

I’m very disappointed as this was my first purchase with Aero Tech Designs Cyclewear.

My wife and I are heading out into the Canadian Rockies in a few weeks to ride our mountain tandem bike back to the states along portions of the Tour Divide route. We have lightweight down jackets and rain gear but needed something in the middle for cooler mornings.

In looking around, I came across these windbreakers and ordered us a pair. Firstly, a windbreaker needs to breathe while stopping wind from blowing through as well as being lightweight. When we bikepack, storage is limited so clothing that compresses extremely well is also highly desired.

These meet our requirements perfectly. They are also very bright. Extremely visible. We will not likely be riding after dark in any busy areas, but there is a chance that we might get caught out on the road where being visible is of extreme importance.

Lastly. They are made in the USA. For the price, they cannot be beat. And we even got a bicycle key chain in the order. Too bad it wasn’t a tandem one though 😉 Highly recommended.

So i have used this jacket a few times during recent storms in the wind and some wet days on a few dog walks. And a trial run. To compare this jacket to the other gore trial running jacket i found the jacket seems to fit snug with a awkward hood.

I found the jacket seem to keep me cool at all times and i didnt feel as i was overheating and didnt feel sweaty. The jacket is actually a smart walking around jacket and blends in nicely with a pair of jeans.

My 3 stars are based on the hood fitting i think Gore could have done better. Not as waterproof as other Gore i found the rain beads but starts to seep through after an hour, but didnt experience the wet penetrant the material but i suspect it would be a matter of a few more hours or use.

Overall nice looking and practical but the jury is still out for longer endurance activity. I di suspect and trust tbus jacket will be more robust and may lose some waterproofness but the heat from the body should help evaporate mostiure through the breathable material keeping u dry as the jacket does its magic.

I bought this having bought similar jackets in the past. Even expensive jackets did not live up to claim of being breathable. I often find that my sweat builds up on the inside leading to my inner cloths getting quite damp.

This generally avoids this problem. A little build up of internal dampness still occurs.

Had Gore jackets for years, always loved their functionality, waterproofness and breathability. Thought I would try out the practicality of front pockets and the hood. Both features are plus points vs previous jackets making this real upgrade !.

Not leather at all. For the price I wasn’t it. The zipper came broken and the stitches are coming apart. I have had this less than 5 minutes and don’t think it would make it through the day. Who did they pay for these reviews.

Go to the dollar store and you’ll get better quality.

Very nice, plenty of room for credit cards, ID cards and cash. I love it. I would love to recommend this wallet to old men, young men and women too. Why not keep all your important cards in one safe, and nice wallet? Look here, it’s also a real Leather, you can’t find anything out there as such.

They don’t make anything in real leather anymore. Take this and can be used for many years to come.

I bought this jacket hoping to wear it for spring riding. I noticed the sizing chart for both the mens and womens were exactly the same, and the picture of the jacket didn’t really look like the hips were flared, but I bought it and hoped.

I actually bought two sizes hoping to return the one that didn’t fit. When I got them (fast shipping) they were both a hard no. The smaller one didn’t close, and the larger one was huge on my shoulders/arms and super tight across the hips.

Felt exactly like a mens jacket but the tag said womens. I wanted to love it. The jacket is quality and the price was right. But did not fit like a womens specific jacket :(.

I recommend this jacket. It has everything that I was looking for in a windproof jacket. I wanted side pockets this jacket has them with zippers. Has rear pocket with a zipper. Just for this I give it 5 stars.

Okay lets get to the construction 5 stars the front zipper is high quality. Now the fit I got a large standard fit. It fits fine no problems. I am 6′ 1″ 175 lbs the jacket does not ride up in the back like some other jackets that I have had.

Have worn it in upper 40’s with a base layer and a short sleeve cycling jersey no problem. Have worn it in 50’s and lower 60’s with just a short sleeve cycling jersey no problem.

This jacket is exactly what I have been looking for! It is very lightweight, packable, and has three very nice size pockets. It is definitely high viz too. Nice when you want to be seen on the road! I am very happy with the quality as well.

I only wish it were available in an extra small. I feel that it runs a bit big, but am so happy with the jacket that I am keeping it. For reference, I am 5’3†, 110 lbs.

I was prepared to send this jacket back at first glance. It appeared too small however when I tried it on I found it fit quite well and was not binding or tight in any areas. I am a size 44 regular with fairly athletic build.

Most jackets are tight on my shoulders and pull short at the wrist. This jacket did neither even with a light fleece jacket underneath and in the riding position. I was very comfortable on a ride at 45 degrees.

I am happy with the purchase at this price and would recommend this jacket for a light weight wind breaker.

Very flimsy and cheap product to the point I returned it as not fit for purpose. AND, made to fit skinny humans. As for the rest of the population it fits like a glove on a bowling ball – pfftt!

Great little windbreaker for cool mornings then easily pack it away for the warmer day. It is well made and great material. It will get warm if pushing hard. I would buy it again .

Like so many others, the linning starts to flake after some time (I guess around two years). This is not what I expected from such a reputed brand and paying a hefty price for a rain jacket. Truly dissapointed.

I’ve had one for two years. Under super hard cross country ski effort, upon removing I can see that my sweat moisture cleared very well- the only damp areas internally are on the seam seals. Does not clear moisture quite as well as my old Vaude eVent shell, but still good.

I never have experienced any leakage on waterproofing.

Really solid piece. Extremely light weight but still effective. Like the other reviews say, it fits small so would recommend sizing up. I normally wear a medium in most tops but this fits closer to a small.

It’s really soft and comfortable. Nice for the beginning of a ride when it’s cool out, then folds up really small when I take it off. Bright orange helps me be seen. Excellent quality and fast shipping.

Awesome jacket for the price. Nice and light, packs up really small. Great wind breaker. Breaths well. Sleeves could be a little tighter as they flap in the wind during high speeds. Fits great according to sizing chart.

Great buy at a bargain price. Stretchy, close-fitting with access to jersey pockets. Why pay premium price when this does exactly what you need it to do?

I was looking for something suitable for the variety of conditions we get on Vancouver Island in the winter and shoulder seasons. This jacket performs as advertised. It is lightweight and windproof. The fit is wider and longer than the average cycling jacket.

I am 6’4” tall and bought a xxl. I would describe the fit as “snug” rather than skintight. I can comfortably wear a mid weight thermal jersey underneath. The long sleeves mean the interior and exterior cuffs easily overlap my gloves.

The neck zips up tightly but with enough room for another zip neck collar. I have not had any wind penetration around the cuffs or neck. The jacket is not insulated, but it is warmer than expected. I find anything heavier than a mid weight jersey underneath is too hot, even on cold days.

It can be vented by unzipping the neck and by opening the chest pocket, as it is mesh on the inside. The three rear pockets are deeper and tighter than my old jacket, so seem secure for keys etc. The jacket is rated as water resistant rather than water proof.

I have worn it in a prolonged drizzle, and a half hour of steady rain, and I did not have any water penetration in either. The gortex dried quickly, however the interior cuffs are made of a different material, so if they get wet they take longer to dry out (like if you overdress and sweat down your arms).

The styling is more casual and less cycling than more racier jackets. I got the green with the orange trim and feel quite comfortable stopping in at a cafe along the ride. Overall I am very happy with this jacket.

As others have noted, what a strange fit! Not just the usual Castelli skinny Euro road racer fit, but just a poorly designed fit. Otherwise this would be a fantastic shoulder season and winter jacket down to the mid 30’s with a good base layer.

The materials and the finish are top notch, and as a bonus the roadie look of contrasting panels is thankfully missing. But what else is missing is a normal fit for cycling. The arms are a bit long which is fine, better than too short and they are trim, not arm warmer tight, but trim, with room for a ls base layer and good mobility.

The shoulders for my normal build- ie. I?m not a broad chested swimmer or weight lifter, are also sized accurately. Around the waist is also sized with a slight bit of room, again trim but not summer race jersey fit.

But the chest ? the chest fit is designed for someone with a 44-46 chest. The extra volume is ridiculous. I?m 5?11, 182 winter weight with a 40. 5 chest and line up perfectly with Castelli’s XL. With the Go jacket, wearing a 200 wt.

merino base layer and on the hoods, there is easily 4. 5? of fabric gapping at the chest in an XL. Even with Castelli’s usual Euro racer sizing this is just weird. It?s a shame because otherwise this would be a winner.

I really wonder who the lead designer at Castelli uses for sizing.

A light weight jacket as an extra layer for rain or cold. Packs small in the rear pocket of the jersey. This replaced a similar older castelli rain/wind breaker that cost $50 from many years ago that isn?t made anymore.

Castelli sizing is always a problem depending on what you?re buying. I?m 5?7? and 152 lbs with medium build. The medium size was tight like race fit with not much room for layers underneath. I gave this to my wife.

The Large size was perfect and allows room for long sleeve thick jersey without being too baggy and flapping in the wind. I haven?t tried it in the rain but should work fine most of the time and I?m not planning on riding in a down pour.

Also works great as a windbreaker for added warmth. Looks well made. It should last for awhile as long as I hang dry it. Likes – cost, light wt, compact Dislike – sizing – I?m usually med but large fit better.

I have been buying more and more Castelli products lately and not disappointed with the performance and quality. Once you find the proper sizing strategy, then you can usual figure out how to size up.

I’m 155lbs, 9’9”, 31” waist 41” chest, and definitely go with a L in men’s Castelli tops, (even purchased an XL in one of their specialty race tops, still fits fine). This jacket keeps the wind perfectly blocked while giving enough airflow to not get too sweaty.

Great construction of zipper and seams and it can be stuffed into my fairly small bike pouch as it is super compactable.

Great jacket, great fabric, light weight, packable. but returning it. I tried both small and medium due to the arms being somewhat too slim fit and too tight around elbow when even just slightly bend the elbow.

Sizing up to medium, same thing. Otherwise would have kept. True to size for torso.

Really nice shell jacket. Very light but well constructed. Castelli don’t just use high quality materials they also give attention to fit and tailoring. As with most Castelli items you might need to size up compared to N.

American sizing. A medium typically is the correct size but needed to go XL in this one.

Great jacket for those cool windy days. Kept me warmer than what I thought it would. And it matches the Shimano road touring cycling shoes I bought last year. I usually were a large. I bought an extra large to have a bit more room, seeing cycling clothes usually run a bit tight on me.

A large probably would have been fine, but I’m not disappointed with the extra room if I need to wear thicker layer underneath.

This jacket is a great windbreaker for temperatures in the low 40’s to mid 30’s when paired with a thermal shirt. It is water repellant if not water proof. The fit is a little snug, so order one size up.

A great bargain when on sale.

Feels quite light and comfortable while riding, yet is quite warm when worn with a base layer. It is a more casual fit, I’m thinking it would also be a good outer shell for hiking given it is water resistant.

One chest pocket, 2 pockets for your hands, and one pocket on the back, on the right side, all with zippers. Med size for me at 5’11” and 160 is a bit large, but I found that the waist has draw strings to make it bit more snug.

This is a great, basic cycling jacket that’s perfect for when weather is a little chilly or damp. I love the soft fabric since it’s very comfortable against my skin, unlike typical rain jacket material.

I also love how lightweight and packable this jacket is since it fits easily in my hip pack and even in my Specialized Swat Box! The sleeves are plenty long and the elastic cuffs stay in place nicely over my gloves so that no arm skin is exposed.

All-in-all this is a quality riding jacket at a reasonable price point.

Great wind breaker for chilly morning rides. Takes the edge off the wind then packs down into nothing once it warms up.

I keep this jacket in my backpack as a “just in case”, it takes little to no space when you roll it up. Great wind jacket in general.

Overall pretty good — I’ve only worn it in light rain once so far, but it kept me dry. Definitely runs small, even compared to other specialized jackets. Really great front pockets, keeps your stuff in even if you forget to zip them.

The zipper pull on the back pocket broke right out of the package, but not a big deal since there is still the zipper itself.

I bought this jacket for some cold/inclement weather group rides. I cycle a lot, so I am pretty thin. This jacket flaps in the breeze like a parachute, slowing you down. I’d guess it consumes 50 watts or more at 20 mph.

It’s so loud I can’t hear if a car is coming from behind. I’d go a size down but then it would fit like a crop top. Disappointing.

I love the style, color, materials and the fit. The material is light and cool enough to wear when it’s warm and is warm enough to wear in the snow because of the lining and water-repellant material.

I wore this outfit to go snowboarding and it worked out great! My only complaint is that the jacket pocket openings are oddly placed along the side seams which makes it a little awkward to get your hands inside.

I’m only 4’11” and XS doesn’t swallow me up. Yes it’s oversized on someone my size but TTS. It keeps me warm on windy days when I’m running and don’t want something bulky. Love the pattern.

It runs a little on the larger side. I wish there were pills to tighten it around the waist/hips, it just doesn’t lay right. I ordered a medium, which I usually am. Pockets are large and zip shut.

Only Assos can call this $150 ultra thin nylon shell a ?pretty fair price? lol. That being said the loly red color is quite attractive (in my opinion) and definitely high visibility. The jacket is super thin so it packs down really well into a jersey pocket with room to spare.

It?s got some mesh around the back of the arms to help breathability but it has no real vents and the nylon fabric does not breathe at all. It?s thin enough that you can feel the cool on bare skin which I find comforting and helps prevent overheating – I suggest size up so you can wear arm warmers underneath if need be.

A larger size also provides a bit of gap at the cuffs to allow wind to scoop up your arms again to provide some air for sweat evaporation. Honestly I?d give this 5 stars but had to subtract at least one as there are equal or better lightweight wind shells out there for half price, even Assos own blitz feder on sale is a way better performing jacket with very similar attributes plus lots more venting and compresses into its own pocket.

This shell does not have any pockets to speak of and it?s so thin I use a nylon bag to stuff it into as I?m afraid it will rip while handling without some form of protection. So if your looking for style, basic emergency or light weather protection and you have the $ it?s good item, if you?re looking for practical value for the $ look elsewhere.

So small it fits into a back pocket easily, and sensibly sized so that it would fit over a spring fall jacket/long sleeve jersey, this is an ideal riding companion for 3/4 of the year. The grey is reflective and the coloured side panels look really smart.

There are probably cheaper options, but I doubt there are better. Highly recommended. Sizing wise, I chose a large at 84kg/1. 82, which I found fitted with plenty of room to go over long sleeved tops.

I can’t fault any of my Assos kit, and this jacket has lived up to and surpassed expectations. Fit is perfect, it really keeps the wind out and shelters you from the worst of the rain… folds up tiny to easily fit in a back pocket.

On top of all this, the reflective material is really cool, I don’t know how they come up with this stuff. Superb fast and efficient service from Westbrook, highly recommend.

Bought this jacket a month ago. Go one size up. I usually wear everything in L, this is XL and had a perfeft fit. I’m 190cm tall and weigh around 84kg, have long arms as well, this jacket is a good fit.

Have used it in colder temp at 4°C and at 15°, during rain and shine. The zipper at the bottom is great for letting extra fresh air through, you neber get a feeling of being too hot, and it’s a great jacket just for colder temperatures as well.

Wash it with proper technical soap from Nikwax or Grangers though. It’s a good thing it’s a 3-layer jacket, you can easily wear a backpack without really messing up the jacket. Fits down well in a back pocket.

Looking for something that will last, keeps the rain out and breathes good? This is it.

I had this jacket for over a month and it has been well tested in very wet and windy days. It fits well and breathes brilliantly and allow no water to pass. So in summary I started in dry and finished in the dry.

This jacket is simply superb and folds up into a small pack that fits neatly i to your back pocket so well worth taking if you think it will rain or if a cold North wind blows. Assos is not cheap but it is quality and tends to last along time.

This a treat that will serve you well.

Was caught in a downpour and got wet. I re-read the description which says “waterproof in light rain” which is accurate. However, With the gore brand I assumed it would protect me from all rain.

This jacket is unreal , I wear it on rides that aren’t too muddy or wet , I wear this jacket every day as it’s so cool .

Love this wind jacket from Mavic. Looks great and performs very well over a thermal jersey on a cold day. Fits mostly true to size, euro fit slightly tighter, but definitely tighter in the shoulders.

So if you are between sizes + broad shouldered, you may want to order up.

Ultra light weight jacket. Not used in the rain yet but definitely helps with wind. Used it on a number of long descents and works well. Fairly tight fit, so not flapping around, but enough room to put on over existing layers.

Washes well and dries quickly. I got the bright orange but could do with a bit bigger reflective material on the back for nighttime riding.

I bought this over a month ago and wear it a couple of times and it’s really light and kept me protected from light rain and wind. And totally foldable!!
