20 Best Window Tint Solution (2022 Updated)

I bought two rolls of this stuff about two weeks apart. I used up the first roll learning how to apply it correctly. I made a lot of rookie mistakes the first time around. After figuring out what I was doing–more or less–I purchased a second roll and managed to do a decent job of covering the driver’s and passenger’s windows in my Class C motorhome.

Here are some recommendations: 1) DIY window film commonly comes in 20-, 24-, and 30-inch wide rolls. There aren’t too many vehicles that the 20-inch stuff will be tall enough to fit, and even the 24-inch film may not be tall enough for your application.

To avoid anger and frustration, measure your windows before you buy the film. 2) Remember, it’s not a race. Take your time and be patient–you’ll thank yourself in the end. 3) Do a thorough job of cleaning the glass and surrounding window frame inside and out, including the window gaskets, using a lint-free cloth or special glass cleaning-specific paper towels (not the stuff from your kitchen, which not only leaves a lot of lint behind but is treated with a chemical that leaves a residue on the glass).

4) To cut the film to the shape of your window, I found it easier to use the outside of the window on the opposite side of the vehicle from where the film will be applied rather than working on the inside of the window.

I scotch-taped the film to the window frame at the top and sides–use quality name brand tape for easy removal–and went through a multi-step process of making a series of cuts to transform the rectangular piece of film into something just slightly larger than the inside surface of the glass on the opposite side of the vehicle where it was going to be applied.

5) Make sure your hands are nice and clean before peeling off the liner and actually applying the film to the window. 6) Do NOT touch the surface of the film once you have peeled off the liner–it won’t stick where it’s been touched.

The only reason I bought this kit was for the squeegee. You can make the spray solution yourself. However I will admit my tint did adhere to the windows better than having made my own solution. The razor knife was just a standard razor cutter.

It came with a lint cloth which was kinda ok. It was way too small to be included in a window tint kit in my opinion. The squeegee is shaped perfectly and I found myself using it for nearly every part of the application.

Overall I think this is a good kit. It may seem a little expensive at first glance but once you start using the things and the convenience of having a solution already mixed and the squeege, those two pay for themselves.

I liked some of the tools in the kit. I wouldn’t use this but maybe it might work out for someone else. The spray bottle can be outsourced cheaper from dollar store and some joy dish soap. The razor blade was handy.

Everything else in the kit wasn’t used. I got this because of lack of experience. I know now that there are more useful, cheaper items to get besides this kit.

It was a nice kit. I would rather go with a bottle water and baby shampoo mix. The blade was helpful and so was the cloth for removing tough to reach glass stains and glue. I chose this kit given my autozone rewards, but would rather save my money and purchase/make items separately.

For starters, I would say it is a great place to start and get used to the tools required.

This product is great quality! Definitely have a straight knife or box cutter when trimming film along window. I used a credit card between the knife and window to get a clean straight line. Plenty of water helps with positioning.

Make sure to use a squeegee or a towel between the credit card and film so you don’t scratch it. You can’t see inside during daylight and once it gets pretty dark out you can start to see inside just as the description says.

We used this for our downstairs bathroom and accent windows in the guest room. This creates privacy while letting light in. So easy to cut and use. I used my quilting ruler and cutting mat to help measure and keep my table safe.

I tried scissors but found the ruler/craft scalpel route easier. I’ve had no issues with it not adhering to the window or coming off. Follow the instructions and you should be ok. It’s super easy to install.

For what it costs. This stuff is great. Takes some patience to apply. I agree with those saying they had issues cutting it. I’ve heard the pros use OLFA brand knives so I will try that when I decide to use some good ceramic tint.

Great way to practice for a better product. *P. S. * I don’t normally write reviews but felt the need because of the bad ones for this product. For starters, what did you expect for $12? Professional grade tint.

that’s hilarious. Is this super easy to install like the package suggest? No, but it’s not impossible. It requires patience which most people nowadays don’t have. The people leaving the bad reviews are the kinda people we have to put HOT!! on coffee cups for so they don’t burn themselves.

I read one from a supposedly certified mechanic who couldn’t handle this stuff. Wouldn’t want him working on my car. There were several other winners but don’t let them discourage you from trying this product.

You want professional grade. Go pay one.

Great price! Works great to keep my west-facing office cool. I can still easily see outside- it just looks like an overcast day, which is fine with me. My only regret is that I didn’t buy this product in the beginning of the summer.

It would have made the high temps much easier to live with. My one and only “complaint” is that its extremely difficult to cut it straight, which in turn, makes it extremely difficult to install it over your windows evenly.

Next time I’ll take the entire sheet, press it in place over my window and then use a box cutter to trim the edges. Trimming it while it lays flat on your counter is like trimming water – its too wiggly.

But I highly recommend this if you have a room in your house that gets way too hot!!.

this stuff is one step above trash. I mean yeah, it does the job KIND of, but let’s get real everyone. this is not at all what any of us want for tint on our cars. first off, it distorts the light and makes everything blurry.

so using it on a car is out of the question. unless you’re not a smart guy like me, and decide “eh I can deal with everything being blurry” it’s stretchy so you can put it where you want but it snaps back too hard so it doesn’t stay.

if you somehow DO manage to get it stretched and to stay (which is impossible with soap and water to let it move around– you’d need it to be dry), the part that stretched has to be the entire film otherwise you get weird stretch marks / lines that make the view even MORE distorted.

look, I’m an ASE certified mechanic. I know my way around cars. this is the last product I’d ever recommend for AUTO uses. however, for darkening a room in a house? it would be SUPER easy to do and I would recommend it for that.

I have always used soapy water to apply window film but decided to give this product a try. What a mistake. This leaves a white film between the window tint and the glass. Save yourself some $$ and use soapy water.

Came quick. Cloth works great. Spray does the job. Good buy

I’ve done tint before, so I’m not a complete novice. I bought a roll of this 2. 5% film to darken up my rear windows. Most of the time, those are the least challenging. The two biggest problems with this film are the thickness and the generally mediocre quality of the plastic film.

It is too thin for its own good. Not only that, but the clear plastic backing is too stuck on to remove it without damaging the film. It ships in a really skinny box and refuses to lay flat without having to be taped down.

Unless you have a helper when applying it, one wrong move and it instantly curls up and sticks together. It’s almost impossible to separate it without leaving nasty creases in the film. The same issue happens when it’s time to remove the clear plastic backing from the main film.

The static buildup during backing removal also turns it into a dust magnet. Unless you have someone hosing it down with soapy water or you’re working inside a NASA clean room, you can safely expect it to trap a ton and a half of dust.

Personally, I recommend going with the static cling film line for DIYers or have a shop do the installation for the higher dollar tints.

It’s wound sooo tight and the product retains sooo much memory it’s impossible to unroll and lay flat for even a moment! It’s like an Abbott and Costello skit trying to unroll this film in order to measure and cut it.

Also if you manage to do so, it appears to be electronically charged so beware what surface you use to do so. I immediately picked up dust particles and dog hairs. Do not kink the film even for an instant.

To do so results in a what looks like a hairline crack in the finished product. The product seems good and works as promised however the application is a nightmare. I STRONGLY suggest you bring this material to a pro and have them install it.

You’ll be much happier with the outcome.

I used the product on the back and rear side windows of my car. There was a noticeable difference in the heat inside my car. As far as the self installation, I would suggest one do it in a covered space (no wind) and with a friend.

My installation left a bit to be desired but I did it in an open parking area, fought the wind like trying to deal with overly sticky saran wrap. I could have saved some effort and had an improved visual if I had done it in a garage.

Just a suggestion to the next person who uses it!.

I bought a roll of this stuff yesterday in an attempt to give tinting my windows on my Volvo a chance. I researched the topic of tinting windows for at least a few hours watched a few videos on it ETC So as to not waste my time with messing this up.

And waste my time it did. This tints adhesive is so strong when trying to remove the protective film that it would curl up and crinkle. It straight up required 3 people to remove properly. And even then once it was on the window it was impossible to reposition Leaving the window with tons of bubbles and tons of fingering.

The result was so bad I had to remove it And here’s the kicker! The biggest Box they had said it would do S UV’s and pick up trucks and barely covered 2 of my windows Couldn’t possibly ever recommend this to anyone I’ve done several engine swaps and several paint jobs that were many times easier.

Just get a professional grade tint online. Moto shield is a good one with lots of options and even ceramic!.

I was tried on sedan car its only cover the rear door windows and back window. When you trim the film outside the windows its stuck the every corner can’t cut the correctly and when you pull up it gets crinkle.

Once it was on the windows it was impossible to reposition Leaving the window with tons of bubbles even with heat gun don’t work. The result was so bad I never buy gila film products I don’t recommend this to anyone.

I bought this because of the size. I tried to tint the back window of a Toyota Camry. I have tinted before but this tint will not shrink for the curvature of back glass. I think I might work for side windows but the lack of shrinkage with a heat gun leaves you with puckers you cant get out or creases because the film wont shrink.

If you are doing back glass I wouldn’t recommend this tint. Sorry I even tried to do it on the inside with out the clear protective part of the tint. No Luck for shrinkage.

The yellow hard card was ok. But only for one installation because it gets worn down pretty fast. But still wasn’t completely horrible. Still used it and finished my tint job.

Product goes up easily and looks good from inside and outside. The only problem I do have is the fact that if you put it on a window that you look out of often, you feel like you need to go get your eyes checked or put on eyeglasses.

It’s definitely not like looking out a regular window and being able to see out clearly. Everything looks blurry. There’s nothing sharp and clear about the view from inside your home to the outside. There is no mirrored effect to this tint.

It looks almost black from the street and that stays that way until dusk or after. No one can see in during the day. Not even in the slightest.

I tried some of this window film on windows facing the morning sun and it seem to have a cooling effect on that room. I purchased these three rolls for my bedroom windows which get the morning sun so I could get the same cooling effect because the sun really heats up the bedroom in the morning and when the 90 plus temperatures the a/c has little effect.

I’ve been using Gila tint for many years since I customize a lot of cars. Never had any complaints & people always loved the tint jobs I did. but I bought 2 rolls tonight to do a truck topper & the stuff was horrible.

Not sure if it was 2 bad rolls, but it just tore like crazy when squegeeing: I was using the soapy water & a soft squegee & it just didn’t like it.

Tinted back window of 04’silverado. Came out decent, product was easy to work with, but better if you have two people. Did back window myself and dropped it and got lint and a few bubbles but you can’t hardly notice.

The instructions allowed the product to be easily utilized. Just make sure you pay attention to the directions

Mixol worked really well for my application. I had to add a yellow aging effect to some red oak cabinets and this product did just the trick. Easy to add small amounts and mixes well! Very satisfied!

a little bit goes a LONG way….extremely concentrated…mixes well with Nitro and water based products

Great product – used with Durhams Rockhard Water Putty. A little goes a long way.

I was worried about mixing my own lacquer to dye clear lacquer black, but Mixol is a surprisingly easy product to use. It’s 5 parts paint or lacquer to 1 part Mixol to get the desired intensity of color.

I will eventually use Mixol for staining projects as well. Excellent product!.

Tried this product to darken a light color chocolate to a darker chocolate shade. Used the whole bottle but didn’t see any change to the darker shade I was looking for. Maybe black was the wrong choice to use but I thought it would darken it at least a little.

I have used Mixol Universal Tints in acrylic urethane single stage car paint before. The small bottle was more than enough per gallon to give me the tint I was looking for. Excellent product.

The instructions were easy to follow, it was installed on our front door, bay window sides, now no one can see into our home while on the porch, plus it keeps the sun from piercing into the foyer. I great shade to have along with peace of mind.

Nosey people turning onto my street can’t see in my living room window anymore. I put it on the outside of the window and it keeps the room from heating up. Easy to put on and I plan on taking it off this winter and reusing it next summer.

I have heard of [brand:pca-skin] prior and my opinion was is that it was a high end, expensive luxury skincare brand. I was so right! I am so blown away by this moisturizing SPF from PCA. It has an SPF of 45, and it’s been thee best Moisturizer + PLUS an SPF that actually feels only like a high end, quality moisturizer.

I have sampled murad, Dr. Dennis Gross, Peter Thomas Roth, juice beauty and supergroup – all moisturizers with SPF in them) and this one by PCA was by far superior. The feeling of it is rich, it applies smoothly and soaks in immediately.

You cannot feel or tell that there is SPF 45 in the product. That is what SOLD it for me! The price point is on par with the other brands I’ve mentioned above, and it is very effective when you file it at least 30 minutes before going out into the heat.

This SPF made my mom and I have a severe skin allergy! I’ve never in my life nor my mom had an allergy to anything or product, however when we both started using this product we wore it on our face & necks and that’s where we both developed severe hives, welts and redness that couldn’t go away for a couple of days.

Benadryl and anti-itch creams wouldn’t even even help! After reading similar reviews on here and on Google, I knew that we weren’t the only ones! Stay away from this product! I am an esthetician who would sell lots of PCA Skin products to my clients however after this happened I will not be buying nor selling anymore of their products!.
