20 Best Windows For Gaming (2022 Updated)

Have had the laptop for a week now, and am very happy with it. For context, this is the first relatively high end laptop I’ve had; previous one was more of a budget-to-mid-range gaming laptop, so that’s my point of comparison.

Upon first look/touch, this Legion 7i is clearly much better in build quality: the look of the casing is sleek and sophistated (with just a touch of that gaming laptop flare), and the materials feel durable and good quality.

The screen opens nicely and feels very stable — it is easy to position and not flimsy. The keyboard is very nice to type on (and I am very picky about that). I actually often prefer typing on chiclet keyboards because mechanical keyboards can feel clunky to me and more easily fatigue my fingers (I do a lot of typing for my work lol).

But this keyboard seems like one that would be pleasing to a wide range of people. The keys have presence and the keyboard chassis area is sturdy and does not depress in when you exert typing pressure on it.

The pressure it takes to press the keys is, in my opinion, a very successful happy medium — just firm enough that it is satisfying and tactile, but light enough that typing is still very easy and not straining.

The 16:10 screen is pretty nice, but I will note that there can be some downsides: by default, text will appear quite small in many applications. To me, annoyingly small. This seems to have been pretty well remedied for me by a couple of settings tweaks (in Windows itself and then in a couple of applications, like Firefox).

As such, I am okay with it. However, may be something to consider if you dont think you have much use for the 16″ screen in the first place or are particularly averse to having to play around with settings to get a comfortable display.

I don’t believe this is an issue with just this laptop, but rather with the display size/ratio that doesn’t seem to be as automatically well-accommodated on operating systems and apps. I’m not an expert on the more nitty gritty specs, so you can probably find better reviews on those aspects elsewhere.

But I can say that so far, the laptop has been running smoothly for me and is nice and speedy (and wow, that is a nice change from my older, HDD-only laptop!).

Please note: My review is based on early usage and testing. Ultimately this is a “recommend”, but I wanted to share details that could be considered NEGATIVES, but may only be CAVEATS. Software OS: Came with Windows 11.

No surprise, I rolled back to Windows 10. “Bloatware” software: Be aware that some of the particular hardware installed on the machine can insist on software that could be considered bloatware. I have not (yet) encountered anything I couldn’t deal with/disable.

Biggest NEGATIVE: My laptop was missing (from the motherboard PCBA) an SATA connector. The service manual gave no indication that this model was incapable of adding a SATA. BOO BOO BOO. I was able to add a second NVMe drive.

I bought this with the expectation of a quick drop-in addition of a legacy SSD SATA drive. Battery system: Casually, the batteries are what I consider to determine life of laptops. The internal battery pack is smaller than previous generation of Legion 5.

I have had past lifetime issues with the BIOS battery in Legion 5 systems. I don’t typically use this system disconnected from wall power, so I cannot attest to battery life under all circumstances. Power system: I was somewhat surprised that the laptop came with a (required) 230W supply.

During periods of intense video activity, it feels like the supply is doing the work (as opposed to internal laptop circuitry – GOOD!) My experiences with Lenovo laptops (Legion 5, Thinkpads), Lenovo docking stations (Thunderbolts), and Lenovo power supplies (65W, 130W, 230W) has been VERY UNEVEN.

I don’t use this system with a docking station, nor do I use an external monitor, but be aware that the general public does report a variety of issues that appear to have a common root cause of “power demand and distribution is not obviously something Lenovo considers”.

The ONLY issue I have observed (that might be power system related) is that when loading the “backplane” USB connectors with peripherals (bluetooth, multiple USB drives) that I’ve seen some unresponsiveness in those USB devices.

something to keep an eye on. External connectivity: Generally, I am satisfied with the availability of external connections (Audio, video, USB/USB-C, ethernet). The “backplane” does have two adjacent USB connectors which are required for some external drives (very good!).

I have yet to fully exercise some of the connections is all the ways I expect to, but it is nice to not have an immediate “show stopper”. I have not tried to exercise internal Bluetooth functionality.

Notes on my usage and its limits: I primarily use this device for “office” applications, web connectivity, and audio/video editing. I have verified that I can install/run certain (older generation) of video games (via Steam, personal installs) but I have not logged many hours using this system for that purpose.

I would have preferred to also have a touchscreen (for digital recording of signatures) but I can live without it, and don’t mind not paying for one (or having something else that could “go wrong”) The single internal 500GB SSD would probably have been OK, but I expanded my storage using the second slot (see caveats above).

NVMe was the only option. I have not expanded memory: the 8GB (ultimately less) has been ok, although for some of my processing needs I do feel like I could stand to expand. I simply have not done so yet.

My purchase was during a “discount” period. This was not an “impulse buy”, although I do feel like the sales cost was at the higher end of what I was willing to pay for the hardware. Generally: I have been satisfied with Lenovo laptops, but I don’t recommend them unequivocally.

Pros: Overall, wonderful specs for the price. I’ve been playing many demanding games and performance has been phenomenal. Overclocking the GPU in the BIOS also helped with improving performance and temperatures were not much difference which shows the wonderful cooling this laptop has (just don’t touch the area near the power button as that gets a bit toasty, but the keyboard is fine).

Laptop is super quiet at idle and necessarily loud when gaming although I still do recommend headphones for a much better experience. Wonderful that it has a MUX switch which means you can turn off the AMD GPU and just use the Nvidia GPU which means no Optimus which drastically improves performance but reduces battery life severely, if you use your laptop plugged in all the time then there is no issue.

Overdrive is supported but I don’t have the proper skills to measure the screen latency so you may need to check YouTube, Jarrod’s Tech is wonderful. Screen is great, wonderful colours and it looks amazing.

The 165Hz makes the games feel more smooth and is great. For 1080p 144Hz is a great sweet spot and this supports 165Hz which is slightly better and not over kill. The screen is 1080p but for this price it’s worth it and games and other entertainment still look amazing so don’t think you’ll feel left out in terms of resolution because your are not.

Cons: However, in some games there were a few audio problems such as the sound come out both through headphones and speakers. Just wished that there were more customisability as it’s quite limited. There are no fan control so your going to have to live with what they give you.

The screen unfortunately does not support HDR but for the 165Hz I guess it’s an okay trade off. I wished that battery life could be improved as even with Optimus and Hybrid Mode on it still died out quite quick but not too fast.

It does depend what you do and if you are using it for very demanding task a charger is very much needed. The laptop charger is 300w which means it’s going to be huge and it is! It’s also quite heavy but that depends on many people.

It comes with Windows 11 so expect some problems, I had a few but they were not ground breaking by any means.

My previous review has been removed by me, as I discovered a way to fix the main issue that caused me to give it a middling score. Previously my complaint was that there was a problem with the wireless card that causes the internet to constantly fluctuate between normal and unusable, however after posting that review I discovered that the specific wireless LAN card used in the laptop actually has a newer updated driver that for some reason is not included in windows updates; and has to be tracked down and downloaded manually from the site.

Upon installing this driver update, the internet problems have been fixed and as such, I can now look at this laptop objectively without that issue weighing my opinion of it down. This laptop is a fantastic budget gaming laptop, its only real cons being its small size (which many might see as a plus) and the colour of the screen when in battery mode as opposed to to plugged in; a problem many gaming laptops deal with and is more or less a simple weakness you have to take with the territory.

Since it uses an SSD, its lightning fast when compared to gaming laptops that use an HDD which are notorious for growing ridiculously slow. (I would also like to thank and apologize to the representative who replied to my previous review and hope this updated review will satisfy everyone on the end result).

Windows 11 has taken some getting used to, and I still personally think Windows 10 has a better UI, but it does the job perfectly fine. My one recommendation to ASUS and newegg would be to perhaps in the future, include a sheet of paper or such with shipments to warn them about the issue and fix regarding the wireless card, as my investigations online have led me to conclude that this is a fairly common issue with that specific brand and model; and people who are less tech inclined may find themselves unable to figure out how to fix it.

As a final aside, I had worried before the laptop was shipped to me that I would have to rummage through its settings to enable tap clicking on the touchpad instead of using the buttons beneath it; as reviews I had seen online suggested would be needed, however it seems since those reviews were published its now been enabled by default which meant I didn’t have to do so, which is a nice positive.

I bought this laptop November 27th during the Black Friday deals. It was a little difficult to set up at first because of the driver situation and McAffee. I also didn’t Know how to run the Asus Armory but after I figured it out it was easy to use.

Be careful with your battery settings in Armory or you could disable your GeForce RTX by accident. Easy to fix though. The main reason I bought it was for music recording and editing as well as gaming.

It was also a good purchase because of the upgradable RAM and memory slots. The 512GB SSD was good but I wanted a 1TB SSD to store new files/games and old content from my previous laptop. The 8GB RAM was sufficient for average gaming and recording, however, I wanted the full 32GB capacity.

Also I didn’t want to have to worry about upgrading for a few years. I did the upgrade myself, it didn’t take too much time but it was a little bit difficult because I’ve never done an upgrade like that before.

A few quick tutorials and the right tools got the job done. One of the clips for the bottom of the laptop unfortunately broke. Thankfully it was just one clip so those remaining were able to reattach back to the bottom of the laptop without any issue.

Careful you don’t lose track of the screws as there are different lengths. After some restarts and playing around with the SSD I figured out how to make everything work and its running smoothly with no issues.

Everything runs on highest settings for all my games and my recording software works very well and very quickly. Don’t listen to the bad reviews, give these Asus TUF laptops a chance.

I upgraded to this laptop from a lower end model of the ASUS ROG. I had purchased it open box for a good deal but a couple years later realized I needed something better and this one does the trick. If you set it up properly you won’t have any issues playing games.

This laptop comes with 2 graphics cards, the on board one and the Nvidia one. It comes set to default that the system will choose which one to use depending on what you’re doing. At first I completely forgot about that and was updating my nvidia whenever an up date popped up.

My system started freezing and crashing and after some research and checking out the logs I realized that I failed to update the onboard one. Duh! After that everything worked again but I opted to set my nvidia one as my dedicated card.

Didn’t make sense to let my system choose which one to use. Since than I’ve had 0 problems. I have the laptop hooked up to an ASUS Tuf monitor as well and I have the system running steam engine on dual screens.

And even with it always running I can play games without any lag. It definitely does the trick since trying to get a graphics card for a PC build is next to near impossible right now! You can also add an additional m.

2 ssd and you can upgrade the ram(which i plan to do) as it comes with 2 8gig sticks and I want to add two 16 gigs instead. The only thing this laptop is lacking in is usb ports. With all my peripherals I had to use a USB hub(some of my peripherals also have passthrough usbs which is a life saver as well).

I’m no bot, just regular person. I’ve had this laptop for about two years now and it is pretty amazing. Sure there are a few cons to it, but I love it anyways. I’ll give a quick run down. Pros- It’s powerful, more than the specs give it, I’ve run some pretty beefy stuff (engineer major in college) and it comes out fast.

Also if your getting this as an engineering computer the ryzen works just fine with CAD, MATLAB, ANSYS, etc. you name it, this computer can run it. I also run a plethora of large games on this computer (planetside, TABS, battlefront) and it just eats them like I drink gamer juice.

Some of the unforeseen pros are that it’s really well built, I’ve had it for two years of straight school and it holds up fine, also if feels really nice and spacious, numpad is a godsend, keys are nice and clacky, backlit keyboard is good for late nights, also it doesn’t look like I live in my mom’s basement, very professional so I can take it to professional things.

Also the warranty is very very nice, I had to have my motherboard replaced (bc im an idiot and left it plugged in w/o a surge protector during a storm) and they were super nice getting it fixed 10/10 service.

cons It’s a bit big and heavy which means that it has great air circulation, but it is bulky. I don’t mind it at all bc I would rather have a well built high performing laptop, but just fyi, its heavy.

Also the charging block is massive, it’s a literal brick and my biggest con, so make sure to keep this thing topped off when you go out or your gonna be lugging an extra four pounds around. On the topic of battery life, the battery is sorta bad, roughly 3-4 hours on low use and do not expect to game if your not plugged in.

It gets me through the day fine, but it’s always a bit close. Thats my bit, swell laptop.

I was looking for a midrange gaming laptop which would provide solid features at a reasonable price. I bought the Legion 5 Gen 6 15ACH6H, AMD Ryzen 7 5800H 3. 2 Ghz, RTX 3060 with 6 GB, and 2 Samsung Gen 4 PCIE NVMe 1 TB drives.

16 GB ( 32 GB maximum) dual rank RAM @ 3200 mhz. Multiple USB 3. 2. Lenovo sets this up for Optimus – automatically using integrated graphics when discrete not needed. It is labeled as Hybrid mode in the Vantage settings and can be shut off.

However. There is a warning that shutting off Optimus will cause some apps to crash. Not using Optimus also causes the temps to run at 65 degrees C instead of 45 or less. Performance is also linked to AC versus battery power: unless you leave this plugged in while gaming, some of the increased performance mode gains will not fully run.

It comes with a large 300 watt AC adapter. If not plugged in battery power drops quickly with even mild games like Civ 5. Make sure you set low battery warnings, and enable ‘rapid charge. ‘ (I can’t help wondering if issues with power usage are due to its Windows 11 Home Operating System).

The Vantage software does make updating the BIOS, system and “optional” (Realtek, etc) software simple. I found the IPS display colors more than adequate after a very limited tweak for digital vibrance & turning on the night light filter for blue light.

The 300 nits, 165 hz refresh rate display is clear and sharp @ 1920 x 1080. I do wish the speakers had more depth, the sound more rich. (Bose they are not). Here again Lenovo included the Nahamic software to offer 7.

1 surround enhancement for headphones for gamers. Ignore the gripes about a weak or flimsy build. The plastic case doesn’t squeak, hinges are firm with a consistent straight up or down movement. No, the display doesn’t bounce when using the keyboard.

Plus, that keyboard has a great feel. The Phantom Blue color and slightly iridescent Legion cover imprint are subdued. The only complaint I had was the WiFi 6 was stated as Intel. What I received was Realtek.

However. I found no issues with reception at all, at any time. Lenovo offers extended warranties for the sealed battery, accident protection, the machine itself and oddly CO2 offset for those so inclined.

There are multiple versions of the Legion, varying processors and graphic packages, screen sizes, buzzwords. This is the one I purchased. A midlevel gaming machine. For me, it functions best when plugged in.

All considered, quality components flawlessly combined made a great running machine. I love it.

I purchased this laptop for exactly $1000 and I have been using it for studying and gaming. My only complaints so far has been the battery life and fan noise. The model I purchased came with a 60wh battery, which is fine for most lightweight tasks, but the maximum you’re going to squeeze out of it is around 5 hours, and thats with just one tab open on YouTube.

Replace the 60wh battery with an 80wh battery, and it should have a more comfortable battery life. Another problem is the fan noise, even at idle you can faintly hear the fans whirring, which I am used to by now, but its something to consider.

Additionally, there is no way of controlling the fan speeds, not without any third-party software, at least. Overall, however, the negatives are vastly outweighed by the positives. A beautiful chassis, surprisingly good thermals, the full-power 3060, and a great price all make this machine a great choice.

TL;DR: Great price to performance all while rocking a clean-looking chassis. Has a few issues, but all of them are addressable with simple upgrades/software.

I have been a big fan of IBM/Lenovo computers ever since my first business laptop a couple decades ago. I appreciate the outward professionalism of their designs with the eminently capable insides. Add on to that, they have my favorite keyboard of any laptop I’m not usually a fan of laptops over 15″, especially gaming rigs, because they tend to be a bit too bulky.

Laptop makers also tend to squeeze a ‘full’ keyboard with numpad into 15″+ frames and I don’t like the keyboard, touchpad offset that happens with that setup. Lenovo *did* put in a full keyboard/numpad but the numpad is narrow and the keyboard offset is not too drastic.

Fortunately, Lenovo brought some of their timeless style to the Legion and we have a laptop that would look great in any conference room but has the guts to run AAA titles on the gorgeous WQXGA screen.

They also made a 16″ inch laptop feel like an ultra portable. Though the power brick is hefty, it too is stylish and slender. Here are some points that I appreciate about the Legion Slim 7. Power: Every creativity program I have run and more importantly, every game that I like playing has played without a hitch.

Battletech, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Star Trek Online, and Elite: Dangerous. I’m sure it is going to do just as well with Homeworld 3, Company of Heroes 3, and Bloodlines 2. The extra power overhead is also great for work as well.

With a huge, beautiful screen, you have tons of room to have editing panes open in video/photo editing. You can have multiple tabs open in Edge, while also crunching some video clips or writing in Scrivener.

With the Legion Slim 7 having a complete AMD pipeline, you get to really see the AMD silicon shine. Display: This is probably my favorite laptop display. It hits all the high points by being both bright and colorful, while also large enough and with the resolution to be useful and fun.

Combine that with the speed of this screen, and you have what I consider to be the trifecta of a perfect screen. Heat: From what I have experienced for the last week, the Legion Slim 7 does a VERY good job of managing heat.

While the fans can get going pretty hard, I’m not too worried about that because I typically play with headphones on. Ports: I know some people have complained that the AMD Advantage Edition doesn’t have all the ports that the Intel version sports but for me I think there are plenty and a good variety.

I appreciate the power, video, and USB-A ports are on the back, while the USB-C ports are on the left and the full size SD Card slot and headphone jack are on the right. Expandability: Here is my only real quibble with the Legion Slim 7.

there is not a slot for a second SSD on the motherboard. This is almost unforgivable in this day and age. Programs keep getting larger and larger while media libraries also balloon out. While I can offload some of the media files and even a few of the programs onto high speed external drives, I’d really rather they be internal and save the external drives for back-ups.

This almost made me want to pull a star but the rest of the computer is so good, that I just couldn’t do it. Bottom Line: The Lenovo – Legion Slim 7 AMD Advantage Edition is a phenomenal laptop, full-stop.

Not gaming laptop, not business laptop, not media laptop, just a phenomenal laptop because it can do all of those things beautifully while also looking great doing it. Other than the expandability issue, and maybe not their absolute best keyboard, everything else is perfect for what I’m looking for.

If you want an all around laptop that can crush work during the day, and crush aliens at night (or maybe while you are still at work), you CAN NOT go wrong with the Legion Slim 7.

First, this pc look really good. It has barely sufficient but adequate cooling, a basic trademark of HP computer as a whole. This pc should run almost any game at medium to high settings at 1080p in 2022.

But just now that with a 350 watt power supply you can not upgrade to a very power gpu. You are stuck with a very good 1080p gaming experience only. But at $500, it is a great deal. High end gaming at 1440p = NO.

High settings at 1080p = YES.

Overall good choice but seriously disappointed with the battery life extrermely poor. Your sales consultant did not warn me of this. Now that I have bought this expensive laptop, I am not fully satisfied if not very regretful.

Sharagf DG should have been honest about overall performance of this laptop. Your consultant is responsible to be honest and transparent about the product they sell to their customers.

I was going to build a PC with similar specs, but this PC pretty much has all I wanted, at a great price. I bought another stick of RAM for $25 and put that in the other slot, to give me 16GB. Done. I like the low-key looks of this rig.

I’m not into RGB lights or crazy clown colors. This rig will play most any AAA game at 1080p, yet expect to dial down the settings for those most demanding games.

I have another ASUS ROG laptop with a 14″ screen and the screen is the main reason I don’t use it as much as I would like. This makes up with it with similar (and probably greater) performance while giving me a screen I don’t need to squint at.

My experience with ASUS ROG laptops so far has been pretty good. They don’t contain a ton of bloatware. There were a handful of windows crap I needed to remove (3 different Office products I needed to remove for whatever reason) but these are things that just come with Windows.

ASUS installs their support software (MyASUS), their performance monitoring/tweaking software (ARMOURY CRATE) and their RGB creation tool (Aura Creator). That’s about it. None of it is intrusive to me and I don’t really have any need or desire to remove any of it.

Setup was pretty easy but a little time consuming. This was my first computer with Windows 11 installed. The initial setup process seemed to be a little more lengthy but also pretty straight forward.

A lot of the setup time was installing updates both during the setup phase (where you have no control over the actual computer yet) as well as runningWindows Update a few times after the setup phase.

One thing I did like is that Windows Update itself seemed to take care of updating my computer’s BIOS. I’m assuming ASUS has integrated with the Windows 11 Windows Update system to provide their system updates without needing to use a separate application like usual.

Windows 11 seems fine. It feels like a prettier Windows 10 but doesn’t feel so different that it’ll take much time to get used to. The biggest thing is just going to be finding the settings that I like in the new control panel and such.

Performance is pretty good. It’s got a 3060 so it’s not top of the line or anything but it’s a pretty great card. I tested Cyberpunk 2077 with all settings maxed out (including all ray tracing enabled) and was able to get a pretty stable 30-40 fps with DLSS on quality mode.

But I was able to push it closer to 50-60 fps with DLSS performance mode on. Note that this was with EVERYTHING maxed out and just adjusting the DLSS mode so there’s a LOT of room for improvements with a lot of settings that can give you a nice performance boost without noticing much of a picture difference at all (especially on a 16″ screen).

I tested Elden Ring maxed out as well and it ran like butter. With a 1920×1200 display, you should be able to push most games to almost the max and still get great performance out of them. Downsides are minimal but they exist.

For some reason, they put the status lights (like power, hard drive activity and such) angled towards the monitor. It makes them hard to see or notice with normal use but when the screen is dark, they reflect pretty noticeable on the screen depending on the angle you’re viewing at.

It’s a really strange choice to me. The hard drive in this model is only 500GB. This is really tiny for this day and age with games. I installed 5 things and that was all I could get. You’ll definitely want a fast external hard drive if you want to load this thing up with things to play.

The keyboard has some nice RGB but not the individual keys. The Aura Creator software lets you do some cool stuff if you have multiple devices that support their RGB connected but if not, the keyboard acts as a single RGB device.

That said, when the computer is in standby mode, I almost noticed that the computer knew I was nearby and the keyboard would flash at me. It could be that the keyboard always flashes but I feel like it doesn’t unless I get close enough.

One of the best perks I wasn’t expecting is the Hello feature akin to Face ID. The webcam/sensors take a scan of your face and the computer unlocks with the press of a button if it can see your face.

It’s pretty quick. Not sure how secure or how easily it can be tricked but for a household where you aren’t constantly looking around your shoulder, it works really nicely. The wife and I are going to be using this laptop a lot more often than the 14″ I had before.

I’ll be moving that into a Stream PC roll since it still has a 3060 and nice CPU in it (great for encoding video) but this one has a great screen, good performance and plenty of nice perks to play games without being tied to a desktop PC.

When I think of gaming laptops, I’m use to 17″ screens, 8 plus pounds, thick body, and high heat output when gaming. Well this only has the usual high heat output when gaming, none of the rest. This is a thin and light (under 5 lbs) laptop.

It also has a WQHD (for the layman, more than 1080p of FHD, but less than 4k) display that has a native refresh rate of 165Hz. Well more than my eyes would be able to tell the difference. The only stat that is a bit low on the display is its nits brightness rating, which is fairly low.

I had no problem with the brightness and think it would only be a concern in a bright classroom with some natural sunlight or outdoors of course on a sunny day. This has a MUX switch, so you can turn on the MUX switch for Discrete Graphics through the Armoury Crate software, which will then prompt you for a reboot, and then your Nvidia RTX 3060 graphics card will be the only thing sending graphics straight to your screen.

This comes with 16 Gb of ram, 8 Gb soldered on the motherboard, and one 8 Gb ddr5 stick in the one and only memory stick slot. This amount of ram did fine on the games I played on this, the usual ones I am playing currently which is Forza Horizon 5.

I set the graphics on the game to match the screen resolution, and set it to preset of Ultra, which only Extreme is higher. On Ultra running in MuX Discrete mode and of course plugged in, when I turn on the Frames Per Second Counter, it shows consistently over 80 FPS during heavy action on the screen.

And this laptop handily beats my 3 year old mid range gaming desktop playing Forza Horizon 5, as you would probably expect. This thing gets HOT when going full bore at playing games. You definitely do not want to use this on a blanket on your lap very long when heavily gaming, you need to let this thing breathe :).

The way the display hinge works, it lifts up the back of the laptop a bit when opened AND some of the heat exhaust actually blows up on the bezel below the display screen through the gap between the main body and the display.

When turning the Mux switch back to Optimus mode and rebooting of course, this will greatly increase the battery life when unplugged, but will hinder the gaming performance by a bit, I’ve read 5 to 9 percent depending on the game.

Optimus mode tries to chose the use of the internal graphics or the discrete graphics depending on the mode you select or the apps you set up to match that mode. This works pretty well. I got about 7.

5 hours out of a charge when doing browsing, mixed with some video streaming, and some downloading and uploading of files. Pretty good. I love the form factor, this fits in any laptop backpack slot I have easily and even when toting the power brick with it, and a controller and mouse, only makes up about 8 to 9 lbs of gear.

Very portable gaming setup. I would really recommend this for a mid range gaming / coding laptop that can also do admirably as a day use / travel light use laptop as well.

The Asus ROG Zephryus 15″ gaming laptop is a versatile beast, with ample power not just for games but also as a mobile workstation, courtesy of its 8-core/16-thread Ryzen 9 6900HS processor. It has an attractive, understated (for a gaming laptop) design, solid feel and construction, and a very nice 165Hz, Pantone-validated QHD 15.

6″ screen. About the only thing I can detract–and it’s undoubtedly a result of the thin design–is that under load in gaming, the laptop can get hot enough that it might be uncomfortable for some. They keyboard gets quite warm, and the upper case near the vents is almost too hot to touch.

I’ll note this is seemingly only an issue in gaming; looping the Cinebench multicore benchmark notably didn’t cause nearly as much heat as a single pass of a gaming benchmark. This is probably due to the Ryzen being highly efficient as a CPU; while it’s architecturally no different than Zen 3 apart from DDR5 support, it is produced on a new 6nm process at TSMC.

RTX 3000-series GPUs are typically on Samsung’s less efficient 8nm process. Otherwise, the only thing that mars it at all–and in a gaming laptop, this is 100% forgivable vs. a productivity-oriented one–is the lack of a numerical keypad.

As said before, the laptop is really understated for a gaming laptop, with a dark metallic gray finish. Opening it up, the large 15. 6″ IPS screen dominates. With QHD resolution, it is razor-sharp, and the colors are vibrant (it supports 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, a nice touch).

With a 165Hz refresh rate, the screen is ideal for high FPS gaming, though to achieve anything like 100+ fps in games with a 3060 will require lowering the settings significantly. E-sports games should definitely be fine to hit that lofty number.

Connectivity around the chassis is very good; on the left side you get power, HDMI, ethernet, a USB type A and a pair of USB type C ports, plus a headphone jack. The right side features a microSD slot, another type A USB port, and the Kensington lock.

The keyboard is backlit and features a variety of RGB colors and is generally nicely responsive to type on as well as game. The trackpad is large and generally pleasant to use; I prefer hooking up a mouse for most things however.

The screen is surrounded by thin bezels; in the middle of the topmost one there is a webcam that does well with quick Windows Hello facial recognition logins. Under the hood, the stars are the Ryzen 9 6900HS, a 35W mobile part produced on a new 6nm process, and the RTX 3060, paired with 6GB of VRAM.

The Ryzen 9, in my CPU benchmarking, scored about 10,600 points in Cinebench R23 multicore. To put that in perspective, that is a bit faster than the desktop Ryzen 7 2700x, which was also an 8-core/16-thread chip, but which was rated at 105W! AMD has come a long way with their mobile parts, and this Ryzen 6000 series chip is very impressive.

In games, the 3060 is a good card for 1080p to 1440p gaming, with 4k within reach if you are partial to older titles. I personally don’t think the 3060 particularly powerful enough for heavy use of ray tracing, unless you can do in conjunction with a feature I consider far more important: DLSS, which can be a gamechanger in titles that support it.

One worry I have with the 3060 is the 6GB VRAM and the possibility of exceeding that limit over time, and DLSS does give an out on that front. I benchmarked Forza Horizon 5, which has a very good built-in benchmark that gives a decent indication of real gameplay performance.

Using the Ultra preset at 1080p, I got around 74fps. Sticking with the Ultra preset, QHD resolution returned a solid 60fps even. I honestly didn’t notice much visual difference between QHD and FHD on this size screen; this would be more obvious if output is sent to a larger monitor.

In that case, one could probably modify the Ultra preset to disable MSAA; on a 15. 6″ screen, the image is so sharp that I’m not sure it’s needed, especially at QHD resolution. I also benchmarked Shadow of the Tomb Raider, a still-demanding title that fairly recently received updated support for DLSS 2.

0. SotTR also supports some limited ray tracing, and the DLSS allows this to be turned on and still deliver excellent framerates. With all settings maxed out at QHD but DLSS enabled, the 3060 returned 73fps with ray tracing enabled, and 84fps with it disabled.

In short, I don’t think this will have any difficulty running modern AAA titles at high/ultra settings anywhere from 1080p to 1440p, and DLSS support will enhance that even further. As said before, though, only e-sports titles run at lower resolutions, or old games, are going to be able to push frame rates high enough to fully take advantage of the 165Hz panel.

The rest of the hardware is curious in that Windows and CPU-Z both report 16GB of system RAM, but it appears that 8GB is soldered onboard memory along with a single 8GB stick of DDR5-4800 RAM. I have not taken the bottom panel off yet, but CPU-Z does report there are actually two DIMM slots, so I’m not sure how that would be handled if a 2nd stick is installed.

Storage is provided by a 512GB SSD. Windows Device Manager shows it is as a WD SN735, a model that must be very new, as there was little info to find about it. Presumably it is an evolution of the SN730, a WD drive made for high performance and high efficiency.

Crystaldiskmark returned a read speed of over 3600MB/s and a write speed of 1927MB/s, which would suggest it be a pretty fast. Its 512GB capacity leaves a bit to be desired, as newer AAA titles routinely push 80-100GB, which means one must be judicious in installing games.

While I’ve not taken the bottom panel off yet, the predecessor model to this one did have a 2nd M. 2 drive slot open from what I can discern, so hopefully this one does as well. I don’t generally think any laptops have really great sound, but I do want to comment that I was really pleasantly surprised by the speakers on this laptop, to the point that I wouldn’t automatically reach for my headphones.

Dialog in movies was particularly clear, and music was as well, with a hint of some bass even. Power brick: It’s suprisingly small for a 200W power supply brick. It would get slightly warm to the touch over time, and the cord is ample.

I ran the laptop in a battery-preservation mode that capped its capacity at 60% to preserve its longevity. But this is the kind of laptop made to be run plugged in–why else have all this power? Final Words: Who is the laptop for? I think this is an ideal laptop for someone who needs power for productivity work but also likes to play the latest AAA titles and have them look good, or play e-sports games at high fps settings.

The Ryzen 9 CPU is a mobile powerhouse, with ample capacity to handle demanding CPU-intensive tasks like video rendering. The IPS QHD screen is really a treat, and with its Pantone validation and coverage of the P3 color space, it should be a great screen for accurate graphics work.

While those doing heavy Adobe Premiere video work might want more, 16GB RAM out of the box is good for most and is certainly still perfect for gaming. The storage is a little slight and an upgrade might in store for some, but it is fast.

The chassis has plenty of connectivity, including ethernet, though the Mediatek 7922 provides support for Wifi 6E. In the end, the only thing that really gave me pause in using this was the amount of heat put out when the discrete GPU is engaged.

I’ve never seriously thought about getting a laptop cooler before, but this one might tempt me to purchase one for lengthy gaming sessions. Overall, though, it’s an amazingly powerful, attractive system that is quite compact and easily portable.

Most gamers would be quite happy with it.

I bought this online without looking into the features in depth. It runs my game fine. I am playing an older Assassins creed at the moment. It does get super hot when running. You can barely touch the area where video card is.

It doesn’t have a nice gaming interface menu where you can adjust your fans etc. The keyboard is permanently red. Being that this was last years model and on sale it was an ok purchase. If you’re looking for a hard-core gaming laptop I would go with a different model.

I really love this laptop, I was looking for something affordable but also quality. I wasn’t disappointed- it delivers and can easily handle programs and games like Fall Guys, Photoshop, etc. The only thing that raises a concern is how fragile the laptop is.

I have a cheap ring and it scratched the surface when I originally opened the package. I can’t patch it or do anything so I just have to cover it with stickers. The 2 day delivery is really convenient and overall I would recommend this product.

Just be careful with it.

I love this product. AN517-41-R3NX is of the best budget gamer laptop this year in 2021 per several articles and Youtube videos. Pro’s: Boot time less than 3 seconds to see the acer logo. The screen brightness isn’t a turn off more me.

I bought this unit for use in a comparison video on YouTube. I have put the Nitro 8300-1050TI through its paces. It is a good laptop and runs most games at 1080p with medium settings. Unfortunately to me, the CPU runs hot and requires under-volting the CPU and putting the power plan to power saver to keep the temps under 90.

Intel specs the CPU at 100c so it may not be a problem but is hotter than I like. The nitro is a good laptop that can run older games at decent settings, newer games like Borderlands 3 and Farcry 6 require lower settings.

Most of the E-sports and MMOs run just fine on it. If you get a good deal go for it, also consider the same generation Ryzen 3500h with 560x as both these laptops run about the same but the Ryzen runs cooler.

Have owned the 17 inch version for almost a year. Performance has been good, gaming average to good, no stuttering on movies, runs fine with heaps of tabs open. Bluetooth is good. Build quality is poor – screen is very flimsy and has developed a curve.

Touch pad randomly stops working. WiFi quite commonly will not connect or drops off, even when close to an access point. Sound is really poor, can barely listen to stuff & external speakers definitely recommended.

Full volume sounds like background noise.

First, I am very happy with the build quality. As mentioned under my shopping experience review, I had significant control over the various components. This is important because components can affect the build quality.

I would suggest that customers research power supplies, RAM, and the different cooling options in order to make informed decisions as to what brands they should use in their system. For example, spending a bit more on a rock-hard reliable power supply is never a bad thing.

I checked the different cable connections–CyberPowerPC recommends customers do this right away–and found them all to be just fine. Cables were neatly routed behind the motherboard and tied. My one complaint is that the bundle of cables was positioned between the metal backing of the motherboard and the tempered glass window.

The result was that the bundle didn’t quite fit in the space, bulging a bit beyond where the tempered glass started. Yes, the bundle does fit, but you have to press down on the tempered glass to make it fit, and that’s a risk of shattering.

Plus, it was really hard to replace the glass with the case upright. I would recommend putting a towel or some other soft surface on the table or floor, tipping the case on the side so that the side with the motherboard is resting on the soft support, and then removing the tempered glass.

I have owned many full tower computers. I typically build my own, and the full tower has lots of room to work in and also can house the largest of video cards. What this means is that I’m used to picking up full towers.

This tower, though, is very heavy due to the two tempered glass windows. I would recommend that customers without excellent grip strength or upper body strength go for a different case. I dinged the product one star due to the issue with the cabling against the tempered glass window as well as for the weight of the case.

I think that CyberPowerPC ought to let customers know case specifications, including weight. On the pro side, having such a large case means that if I opt to upgrade any of the individual components over the next few years, it’ll be easy to do so!I am impressed with just how quiet the build is.

Of course, I opted for closed-loop liquid cpu cooling. I have to admit that the RGB components look cool. Overall, I am very happy with this computer. My framerate has increased by 50%. It boots so quickly and quietly that I can barely tell that the computer is on.

I would recommend the company to future customers.

AWFUL. Just AWFUL customer service. I’ve had my brand new PC for 3 days and since day 1, I’ve had issues with the computer shutting down suddenly, when I try to play games it restarts the computer without any warning, and the audio jack in the back of my computer doesn’t work.

When I called tech support, they told me that they can’t stay on the line and walk me through how to diagnose and figure out what could be causing my issues. This is in addition to the first time when I called about the audio issues that the support technician said what I experienced is a known issue with my particular motherboard.

I ended up asking to return my computer and get a refund. Buying an expensive gaming computer is an investment and I’m returning it after 3 days. This is a lesson of how CyberPowerPC can lose on a business because of awful customer service and not doing proper quality control.

Case came with damage to the tower case but other than that works great so far. The damage is mainly cosmetic and looks to have happened during manifacturing as the bok it came in was undamaged. It’s mainly cosmetic damage.

I will update if anything else happens.

Took a while to get the customized components assembled, but given the current market it makes sense. I also received some surprise free upgrades. Received a 3200mhz ram kit instead of 3000mhz, and a seagate Baracuda 1tb instead of a Adata 960gig ssd.

No communication on these so it was a pleasant surprise as I was going through and checking it over. The cable management was excellent front and back, well run and excess cables neatly tucked away and tied back.

The packing was excellent both outside the case, and inside. Double boxed with several expandable air bags. All components were in place and it did work right out of the box. Small issues. The pcie retaining tab for the gpu was detatched andloose in the case, the slot and card were not damaged but the tab was not attached.

Quick fix not a real issue. Also Xmp was not enabled out of the box, I didn’t pay for the overclocking, but I’d expect a computer from CLXgaming to come with it enabled. Again quick fix. Overall very happy with the looks, performance, and quality of the build, the provided 3dmark score on the desktop was accurate to what I received.

Pour mon cas personnel, le délai d’activation a été plutôt long (une bonne semaine). A ce jour, je ne sais pas vraiment quelles sont les raisons de ce délai, il n’empêche que j’ai maintenant une licence active pour Windows 11 professionnel et pour office.

elles sont toutes deux fonctionnelles, et malgré les erreurs d’activations que j’ai pu connaitre lors de l’activation, le support à toujours été réactif pour me répondre rapidement et efficacement, afin que je puisse disposé d’une clé fonctionnelle, en m’indiquant les différents procéder à suivre suivant les potentielles erreurs.

Je conclurais enfin en vous disant que si vous vous retrouvez dans la même situation que moi, à ne pas pouvoir activer votre clé, ne paniquez pas, prenez du temps libre, et surtout lisez bien et respectez bien les instructions qui vous sont données.

Et puis à ce prix là, le service est franchement bon. Voila, je recommande, et surtout que vous pairez bien moins cher que sur des sites comme “CDKeys” ou que sais-je.

Bonsoir et merci! J’ai acheté un mini PC Schneider avec Windows 10 Pro préinstallé. Aucun problème de mise en route et de configuration. Il se met à jour dès le branchement, mais impossible d’activer Windows, la clé fournie n’est pas valable et reconnue par Microsoft.

La mise à jour vers Windows 11 Pro se fait seule, mais idem, la clé fournie n’est pas reconnue. Depuis 3 jours j’essaie avec le SAV de Schneider pour que je puisse avoir une clé valide, mais malgré mes relances plus de nouvelles.

J’étais prêt à ramener le PC et la je découvre cette possibilité d’avoir une clé ici: émail reçu dans l’heure suite à ma commande, j’entre la clé et miracle: Windows 11 Pro activé! Bravo et encore merci.

Windows et Office sont activés (en espérant que ça dure). On reçoit un message contenant les clés et toutes les explications pour télécharger les deux produits et les activer. Il faut bien suivre les instructions et ça fonctionne.

Pour le site qui gère les ID, j’ai utilisé Firefox car avec Edge ça ne fonctionnait pas (le reCAPTCHA ne s’affichait pas et on ne pouvait donc pas cocher la case pour prouver que l’on n’est pas un robot).

Le vendeur est très rapide et répond en cas de problème (s’il manque une clé par exemple). Parfait! Pour 4 euros et quelques centimes c’est très bien.

Let me just start with the fact that I have some of the best Components on the market for 2020-2021 in my build. I watched DYI Videos and was excited to start my FIRST EVER build however, anyone who knows the market knows how difficult that actually is.

Without getting into semantics, let me jump to the point. CLX had STOCK. I have a shiny new 3090 FE in my rig. At the MSRP of about $1200 and the average price of one in stock being $2800 CLX Stands supreme.

Added to my build, it was about $1300-$1400 which is far more than fair. Where else can you get a Nvidia GPU at that price? My final build was about $1000 more than an in-stock 3090 sitting at about $4000.

The caveat; for anyone looking to get into this decade of gaming, is that I also received a Ryzen 9 5900X and a 570 Asus Motherboard with a 1000 Watt Power Supply. I have the Trident G-Force Ram Set which; for any expert computer builder who was curious, was set up properly for 2 Channel.

This Rig came ready to go and CLX Offered so many more customizations. Overall, My experience was great! In a time where things are hard pressed CLX stood as almost a beacon of hope. I got my first gaming computer in a time where veteran gamers cannot even complete their builds.

Not to throw shade at manufactures but most component companies are looking at their bottom line. Scalpers and Miners have got you beat and there is no relief on the horizon. CLX put a PC in the hands of a gamer.

They’ve made their money and were HONEST about it all. I’ve tried NZXT Builds and their prices seemed. off. Their selection was very basic. If I had to do it again, I’d choose CLX again, hands down.

Building my first PC was super easy when I was picking parts to build my 1st gaming PC. If I didn’t know exactly how good a part was or didn’t know what it was, I just researched it. But, if something doesn’t fit, their system will tell you, and give you the upgrade you need to fit whatever large item you are adding.

Overall, CLX was Great to work and have over-the-top excellent customer service and they delivered a great product to me. It was shipped carefully, and everything was put together VERY nicely. When I didn’t receive a part I added (but, did not need after realizing my motherboard had wifi already on it), they charged me, but didn’t send the part with my shipment.

I sent an email, and got a quick response. After they looked at my receipt and saw that I didn’t get it, they quickly gave me a refund. I recommend taking a pictures at the end of the parts list for you build before and after paying for no hassle, and proof of parts you purchased.

CLX is awesome. I would highly recommend this company to anyone who’s a beginner at PC gaming, and if you have questions, ask the CLX team; they will gladly answer your questions. Set up was a breeze when I got the PC, and I love it.

Ultimately the machine works but it took a lot of tinkering to get working correctly. For starters, they failed to ship the motherboard with the latest BIOS, so the AMD 5950x CPU was constantly getting voltage/power failures and rebooting at idle, I had to triage and fix that myself.

Additionally, the fans installed were significantly underpowered and the machine was overheating (The phanteks case requries strong airflow fans, which these were not). Lastly the Gamidas 750W powersupply was installed pulling hot air from inside the case despite the Phanteks case having it’s own intake.

The powersupply was overworked and sounded like a jet engine, even after fixing this that power supply is ludicrously loud, so I eventually just replaced it. I also ended up replacing most of the case fans they installed back to default Phanteks case fans off another PC I had.

The final nail in the coffin was that the case arrived damaged with the back panel shattered because CLX failed to ship it with sufficient protection. Ultimately I bought the machine to get a 5950x CPU and a RTX 3080 GPU which did come and do work (once I fixed the heat, cooling and firmware/bios).

It took nearly 3 weeks to get a replacement panel from customer support but I should add that they were super friendly, clearly concerned and worked to help resolve the broken case issue, they were just slow.

I likely wouldn’t recommend buying a machine from CLX unless you already know how to assemble, triage and assess your own computer, because they are clearly willing to offer and sell sub par components and not fully test/understand the performance of the machines they ship you.

If you’re parts hunting though, go nuts!.
