20 Best Winter Riding Breeches (2022 Updated)

Although these Tights are designated as Winter wear, they are not all that warm. They definitely do not protect your legs from wind. In fact, I could feel the cold breeze through them just walking to the barn even though there was only 2 mph winds.

They are comfortable to wear – no scratchy seams. Soft brushed interior lining. Horse hair and barn dust brushes right off the smooth exterior. No cell phone pocket, which is too bad. There is a small interior pocket to hold ? A key maybe? Wide comfortable waistband which doesn’t roll.

Other than the wind & breeze cutting right through the fabric, my biggest issue is with the sizing. I purchased 28R which sags at the rear and is loose and drapey down the leg. I then ordered 26R which was very difficult to get on over my heel/ankle, was tight on the leg and up over the rear.

The entire Tight was too short (crotch wouldn’t come up high enough and waistband very uncomfortably too low with full-seat seam hitting right along top of my bum). I am 5’4”. Therefore, there is no suitable size for me, which would be 27R as there is such a disparity between the 26 and 28 fit.

So flattering and breathable, especially for the price! I use these for my weekly dressage lessons. They work very well in the southern humidity. They also make your butt look very nice for all the curvy ladies haha 🙂 I have bought many pairs of $300+ breeches and I honestly prefer these by far- just wish they made more colors and a version for shorter women.

But other than that def recommend!.

These seem soft and super warm, but they are made so strangely! I take a 30 in most breeches, so I ordered a medium. I cannot get them more than halfway up my thighs…and they grab around my calves. They also seem not very stretchy.

A friend at the barn who wears a 26 tried them and said the same thing…they grabbed around her thighs with no stretch and were too big in the waist. Maybe my pair is defective? I cannot imagine who these would fit.

The pants themselves are great, they are warm, which is why I needed them, and actually quite comfortable, but I am VERY unhappy about the colour- I specifically ordered from your site and spent about $20-30 more than I had to, just for the navy WITH the tan knee patches, I specifically liked the look of them and was SO excited, I can’t afford new riding gear very often, so this was going to be a treat, I spent a little more because of how very much I liked the tan knee patches, so you can imagine my PROFOUND disappointment when they FINALLY arrived- I was gonna let that go, but I did NEED them for the cold weather, which is why I can’t afford to go through sending them back, I must have something warm to ride in, so I will keep these out if need, but I wish I could get a credit or somehow the navy tan knee patch, I understand if you can’t do that, but I did spend more than I had to, specifically for a feature I did not receive, so that is very upsetting, I actually cried, haha, I wanted the tan knee patch so badly, I thought they looked like Tailored Sportsman’s and was so excited, but I received another pair of humdrum cheap pants that I could have gotten so much cheaper if I hadn’t been set on that particular colour combo.

So yeah, I hate being upset with people, but I am, I was SO excited, and then SO let down, and the shipping took much longer than it said it would, which I understand is probably beyond your control, especially right after Black Friday, so that I can forgive, but I can’t get over not getting my tan knee patches, I am literally heartbroken (yeah, don’t have a lot going on in my life, haha) I was going to feel so awesome at the barn for once, but now I just look like the poor person I am, oh well, I guess.

If I hadn’t paid more for something I didn’t get, I would totally let this go, the pants are functional and wearable, after all, but I could have gotten them MUCH cheaper of I had been okay with any of the other colours.

So I hope you can do something, that was my Christmas present for myself, and it seriously let me down, and it’s all I got, so I hope you can understand my frustration! Thank you, everything else was good, a s I have had great experiences in the past, this is nuts super disappointing especially when I read the reviews and see that someone received a pair of the tan knee patch when they WANTED the navy on navy (which I HATE, but I gotta wear ’em now to stay warm.

)- maybe you can put us in touch and we can trade or something haha. I seriously want the navy WITH tan knee patches more than my money back but I will take the difference in the money if the pants aren’t available,I just wish I had known because I would have gotten them SO MUCH cheaper, and could have taken an extra lesson that week, too, so.

VERY, very unhappy. And sad that I have to be unhappy, I hate conflict and I wouldn’t even say anything if it didn’t mean so much I just really don’t have a lot to look forward to, so when I do look forward to something and it pans out I get very sad.

Anyway, I am so sorry I have to complain, maybe y’all can do something, that would be so nice, I do love your site and services, this was just a rare let down, and I hope you can make it right somehow! These are basic but nice, heavier weight fleece breeches for winter riding. They fit true to size, though the “sock bottoms” are definitely on the tight side. I’ve had my last pair for 3-4 seasons now and just purchased another pair on black friday because they were a fantastic deal.

They aren’t fancy but are good for everyday barn-wear and schooling.

I am a fox hunter. I ride in Michigan in below freezing temps and a wind chill. I have my original pair that are about 6 years old. While they aren’t shape enhancing they don’t show off any body flaws.

They are comfy as sweat pants and oh so warm! Way better than the Kerrits wind-pro. The only down side is they get “pilly” on the outside after just a few washings even if inside out and line dried (I have 3 pair) good side is they don’t get any worse once they officially pill.

I received these as a gift. They are super comfortable – like wearing a pair of sweat pants. They are very stretchy so don’t feel tight. They keep my legs really warm during my evening lessons, without feeling too hot while prepping and cleaning up.

The have full seat silicone designs that seem thicker and sturdier silicone than other brands I’ve used where the silicone wears off after several rides. However, they are so stretchy compared to regular breeches, I think they run a little big so you might want to order a size smaller.

My only concern is that they seem to be pilling a bit on the top of the knees after only 3 rides. I really hope they hold up through the winter!.

I think this was my first order from this company. This winter breech is VERY reasonably priced, even without a sale). The Tuffrider winter breeches are VERY warm, and the silicone is the sticky kind.

If they aren’t as grippy as I believe they’ll be, I’ll update this review. They are very fleecy (sp?) and don’t have a tight waist, but do have belt loops to use if you need them. They were on sale recently (still are, I believe) and I got a second pair for myself, and another for my sister for Christmas.

LOVE them.

These breeches fell short of my expectations, literally. The rise is so low they barely cover my bum- which is athletic but not a bubble butt by any means. No one wants to catch a draft picking hooves from their winter breech.

Overall the quality was as I had expected for a mid priced breech.

These have been a lifesaver for me on cold mornings at the farm. When I say cold, I mean that I live in Alabama where it doesn’t very often get arctic, but it will easily be in the 30s (even upper 20s) some mornings when I get out there.

These pants are very thick and fleece lined. They do keep me warm, and they aren’t too hot on me when temps get up into the 50s. I read where some reviewers on Amazon said they are sized big, so order down a size, which I did.

Not sure that was the best idea. I’m a perfect 28, but I got a 26 in these. Length is kind of an issue, but easily overlooked since I’m always wearing tall boots anyway. If you have volume in your lower body, it will eat up some of the length in these pants.

Honestly, I think I could have gone either way on size. They are a weird fit on me, and I can’t decide if it’s because of the thick fleece lining or because I ordered down a size. Either way, I’m not disappointed with these pants, especially at the price point.

The silicone grippies are great in the saddle. I’ve probably worn these pants 10x now, and some of the grippies are flattening out a bit where the most friction occurs between pants and saddle. I have the tan color, and I wash them with my light colored clothes, warm water, inside out, and I only throw them in the dryer for 5 minutes (med heat) just to get wrinkles out, then hang dry them the rest of the way.

They have retained their size/shape very well. Hoping I can get a lot more life out of these. Might order a second pair, but I’ll be ordering my normal size so that I can get better coverage. although that might make them kind of baggy at the waist, so who knows? LOL.

Finally. Comfortable riding pants. Flattering, comfy, sensible, and functional. The sticks are genius, the end of bulky, awkward diaper-butt fullseat breeches. Like riding in your jammies: nothing binding, no pointless scratcy velcro ankles.

Fabric and construction are first rate. The fit is perfect on me as I am tall with wide calves and narrow hips and always frustrated by poor fit. I can wear large or medium depending on whether I want to wear another layer underneath.

Wish they were windblock.

I have two of these, and they’re great for keeping me warm when it’s really cold outside. I’m in north Alabama, so by “really cold,” I mean temps in the 20s. These are very comfortable. Some days I really don’t want a super high waist, which makes these perfect.

They do a good job of staying in place. True to size, in my opinion. I love the ergonomic placement of the phone pocket. Belt loops if you need to wear a belt. I normally prefer a full seat, but in the Sit Tights, I prefer the knee patch because the full seat panels are quite rigid and don’t work well on me.

They also deflect a lot of wind. These are by far my favorite pants made by Kerrits.

These tights are so comfy and cozy for winter riding. While not truly water resistant, they repel light rain and snow for the walk from the car to the barn/indoor arena. These tights have a much looser fit in the legs than other Kerrits tights.

Because they are not as tight in the leg they seem shorter than the Power Stretch or the Fleece Lite tights (although they are actually slightly longer). These tights are so warm that I bought a pair for myself (a non-rider) to wear while watching my daughter’s winter lessons (and other times I am outdoors in the winter — I even wear them under my ski pants).

I bought this for my daughter who has sensory processing issues and is especially sensitive to how clothing feels (too tight, seams, odd fabric, etc). She loves to ride and has just started showing. She LOVES these tights, never ever complains about putting them on, and will even wear them around the house after riding because she is so comfy she forgets she has them on.

These are now the only tights she will wear (and forget breeches), so I am buying multiple pairs and colors for her. So far, these are holding up really well for how much use they get. She’s about 5′ and 116lbs, and the M fit her well, if not a little big – but she’s growing like a weed so that’s fine.

I hope these never stop being made!.

I adore these riding tights. So much so that I kept them regardless of one flaw. The fit is excellent and the styling and construction is great. They’re very flattering and high waisted as I like, and they make my hourglass figure look great, they accentuate your waist also; however, the fabric is quite thin to my liking.

I don’t think I could comfortably wear this out without a pair of biking shorts or seamless something underneath. It’s not see through but it seems to accentuate any part of my lower body that has fat, and highlights cellulite, it also isn’t great for concealing camel toe.

For reference I’m 5’3 and 125 pounds, I exercise regularly and don’t think I have more cellulite than your average woman; so I haven’t exactly had this issue before. It may because I got a lighter color, (khaki) but I kept them anyways.

They’ll be perfect with a pair biking shorts underneath. Other than that they’re great in terms of styling and durability, and function.

I’ve always loved Irideon riding tights/breeches, but cannot always find small size in stock. SmartPak had them in stock and these are soooo comfy and silky feeling! The fit is great and they are cool enough to wear down here is Florida.

The pants are good quality and they arrived quickly and with no problems. The only issue is that they are a bit shorter than I expected. We ordered a size 10 and they are the same length as the size 8 she has in a different brand.

But they still work for her and keep her warm while riding outside in the cold!.

Great fit for my 12yo daughter and so much cheaper than the specialized equestrian riding clothing stores. She is a normal sized 12yo and the size 14 fits perfectly.

These pants are super cute. Very comfortable and generally fit right. The only real downsides are they are a bit short in the legs and the ankles are way too tight. We had to cut them for my daughter to get her feet through.

BUT. we only did that because she loves the fit otherwise and the cute horse designs and didn’t want to send them back. Comfort: 4.

The mailing envelope was too small for the item, which made it harder to return in the same mailer. I can’t comment on the durability because I haven’t worn them yet. However, they seem to be very good quality construction.

I’m not sure the suspenders are necessary because they have belt loops (“belt and suspenders” implies supreme care, but the waist is pretty tight), but the suspenders are removable.

These pants keep me warm on trail rides in Canadian winter. They fit true to size, have a good grip in the saddle, the material is very sturdy and they are very comfortable. I recommend buying these to anyone who needs to keep warm.

Runs a bit big, but can layer up underneath. I haven’t actually ridden in them yet, because I get so warm cleaning stalls and lunging horse, by the time I get around to riding, I’ve taken them off!! Love, love, love them!!.

These pants are AWESOME. is all I can say. Wish I would have purchased them SOONER. Warm and fit well the knee patch is awesome as my saddle does get a little slippery in the cold days. I do ride western so love the bootcut with my regular boots.

Because they are so comfortable and fit so well, I throw them on for warmth and no bulk for barn chores 🧡 5’2″ and 115 lb. I ordered small. Perfect.

I ordered this pant and the Microcord knee patch both in mediums since I wear a medium Ice-Fill full seat tight. This Sit Tight Wind Pro was definitely smaller on me, so I would have to go up to a large.

The fabric was very nice and very warm. I really liked the pant, but it was just too small. It felt more constricting/tighter than the Microcord or obviously the Ice-Fill. I think for my climate I will try to just get away with the Microcord for now.

Good for truly cold weather, I suspect.

I love these and wear them all winter – work, skiing, riding, barn chores. Mine are black, so the knee patches aren’t obvious. I buy them for my family (non-riders) and they also love them. Super comfortable and warm.

5’6” 170#, slim hips and thighs (straight), size XL.

This is my 3rd pair of aubion riding tights and these last pair did not fail to impress me. o wanted something comfortable as I’m a size 16 These did the trick really comfortable and very warm on those winter days with the fleece lining.

Only bad thing would be to say maybe some pockets for phone etc would be nice.

Very comfortable with a brushed inside and high waistband.Only criticism was the sizes come up rather large.Wish I had got a small instead of a medium

Good weight for a riding tight and ideal for cooler days but dont expect them to be thermal. Comfy and quite quick drying if caught in a light shower.

I bought a pair of these in October, but only really started wearing them in the colder weather in late November. After a couple of washes, they have completely lost their elasticity and are a horrible, wrinkley fit.

Would absolutely not recommend and most definitely not value for money. Expected better from Ariat, as to date had no issues with any previous products. Very disappointed.

Wore for 1-2hrs a day for a week and they ripped along the seam of the crotch. Never even sat on a horse with them. They do feel warm but not with a great big hole in them. There are cheaper brands out there that do the same job and probably don’t rip after a week.

Customer service response was to return to the shop. They were a christmas gift and the receipt was thrown away as i didnt expect a premium product to break so soon!.

I bought these recently, cut the tags off & put in my wardrobe! I have just put them on now & found they are a very strange fit! I have many other Ariat leggings, all size M but these firstly have little or no stretch & secondly are a much lower cut than any others I have.

Taking them straight back off, extremely disappointed.

Very soft and comfortable and kept me warmer than jeans and a light base layer. The grippy bum helped me keep my seat in a dressage saddle when the horse I was riding decided to misbehave in a bad way.

My only complaint was that they were a little baggy, so I am concerned that they may stretch with further use. Overall though, I like them!.

Love these breeches! Good fit and stay warm! My daughter wore them on day and said the only part of her body that wasn’t cold, was her legs! wish I would have gotten both pairs in the full seat.

The soft and fuzzy insides of these breeches make me want to wear them even just to lounge around the house! I love that the pocket has a zipper (wish the summer breeches had a pocket at all!), so I don’t have to worry about anything falling out while I’m riding.

So glad I decided to buy these!.

I’ve loved Tuff Rider knee patch (and others by Tuff Rider) for many years (decades?) as they are so very strong and well fitted (to me) and they have lasted forever. (They are so reasonably priced also.

) I recently ordered again as Tuff Rider once again had the sage color I’d loved decades ago (which were cut off me from an ER doc after a horse related accident) and now, though, here I am again, happy and recovered, with another pair my favorite color of Tuff Rider breeches–in sage.

I still have 5 or more of other colors. Of course. Best wishes. Happy trails, arenas, etc.

These are my absolute favorite breeches. I bought one pair in taupe as a teenager and they only just now died, after a good 10 years of wearing them at least three times a week. These are so comfy I prioritize them over all the other options in my closet.

I’m not nice to my breeches, I wear them for riding multiple horses, mucking stalls, bathing, and moving hay, and these hold up great. Even though they are ‘low rise,’ they are still not unflattering, and I like where they fall on my waist (even though I prefer high-rise jeans).

My new pair in charcoal are wonderful! I like the updated elastic cuff over the older velcro; I have sensitive skin and they are kind around my ankles. I did get one snag on the thigh the first day I wore them, after only riding, but have held up to substantial abuse since then.

I’ve just ordered another pair! Please never stop carrying these!.

I’m 5. 7 140-145 lbs. I wear a mens 32 (wrangler) and it is loose fit. These breeches are very close to that same fitness. I ride in an endurance saddle without a Swede seat. Not sure if it’s saddle or not, but I don’t have as much grip as I’d like.

Not had these breeches long… don’t feel like I can give a proper review when (at the moment) I’ve only used them once so far. Still not a bad buy, they aren’t skin tight, they are comfortable , medium grip (in my opinion) , true size, could be a tad longer but not bad.

I plan to buy one more pair.

I am one of those riders for whom Pikeur breeches are a good fit. These don’t disappoint. Comfortable, classic, and they have stood up to daily and weekly cold-water washes. The full seat feels just like real suede.

Yes, these are expensive but worth it. And thanks to Dover’s expedited shipping option, I was able to get them the day before I left for a big clinic.

I have several pairs of the Lugana in the 79 fabric which is also called Prestige Micro 2000 and I really like them. These new breeches are in the 82 fabric which is a bit thinner and stretchier which would be okay, except these breeches are cut bigger, so they are loose and baggy in the legs, even though they are the same size as my old breeches.

They are also about 2 inches longer than my old ones, even though they are both in the regular length. My old breeches were already too long for me and the extra 2 inches really make them bag up around my ankles.

I can’t speak to the durability of these breeches because I’ve only worn them once and I’ll probably get rid of them.

I really like the Lugana ll. The material is lighter and a has bit more stretch than the Original Lugana. The best “change” is that the waist is more contoured which makes the fit much better. They do run larger than the original Luganas, I usually take a 32 long but in these a 30 L fit very well.

I want to again thank customer service for being SO helpful in getting the correct size. (I sent the 32 L back and they measured the 30 L’s to see if they would work, they did)!.

Love these! Great price for comfy and grippy breeches. Soft fleece inner liner is nice and not super thick. Have not ridden in cold or windy weather yet. The grip pebbles are very nice and do a great job in the saddle.

I like that they didn?t have a thick seam at the knee to cause rubs there. I have been searching for a great pair of winter breeches and finally found them. I love the cell phone pocket, just wish there was another pocket on the other side for horse treats! I?m 5?5?, wider at hips, and smaller ankles, knees and lower leg and they fit great.

These are the tights that come WAY up in the front and then barely fit over the booty. Built for flatness in the rear. I don’t have hips, so it’s not that either. That said, the little bumps to keep you on are plentiful and big.

Size runs true and they seem to have a little more length than expected for a regular. They are a nice medium weight. I have a couple of other pair that are heavier. OEQ should consider refining the cut.

These tights keep my legs plenty warm, riding in Colorado – that was my main priority. Bonus: I really like the pocket for my cell phone. I usually buy riding breeches bigger because I don’t like them tight but these are a size medium and are very roomy.

I am 5’7, 140 lbs. They feel like misses vs junior sizing (extra room in the hips).

A snug fit with a high waist, which suits me as I have quite a curved to lumber so often find pull on breeches gappy. If you have a belly, I would size up. Phone pocket is excellent size & conveniently positioned.

Lovely fit true to size good quality only reason I didn’t give 5 stars – I was expecting them to be a bit thicker as they were advertised as winter jodhpurs

I like these breeches a lot. I have actually 2 pair I purchased in 2020. I ordered another black pair in fall of 2021 and they had some differences. First. there are now two phone pockets, one on each leg (previous pairs had only one).

These pockets are awesome to carry around my iPhone in. The second difference was the 2021 pair of breeches (and I ordered the same size as the 2020 pairs) , were a bit smaller and therefore tighter fit than the 2020 pairs.

This was maybe not the greatest thing, but I can get them on.

I love my winter Fits breeches! They fit great. The material is nice and they are the perfect thickness. I like the way this brand fits, they are comfortable and don?t drag down at the crotch like some do.

Also like the phone pocket on the leg sides. My phone fits in there good and no worry of it falling out, but easy to slide in & get out.

Beautiful breeches! A wonderful lightweight material that is of fabulous quality. It is of a stretchy fabric so is easy to put on, wear & is very comfortable indeed plus the design with a few unique sparkles added makes it so pretty.

A must have for any rider wanting to have a smart, classy & maneuverable breech. :).
