20 Best Winter Work Socks (2022 Updated)

I bought these socks after looking everywhere for REAL wool socks to keep my feet warm 24/7 following chemotherapy treatments which left me with peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage) in my feet. Wool is the only natural insulator that will continue to retain heat even when wet.

After I read a previous reviewer who, following chemotherapy, was pleased with his purchase of the Artic Wool Heavyweight Boot Sock to deal with his peripheral neuropathy, I decided to do the same (and bought 4 pairs).

I was not disappointed. These socks are great! Comfortably warm and well padded. This is not my first (or last) experience with the Carhartt product line. I proudly own and wear Carhartt boots, work shoes, shirts, jackets, gloves, hats & now socks.

I’ve never been disappointed with Carhartt quality, durability and value. Thanks!.

These socks have way more wool than the typical “wool socks” sold at the local DIY Big Box stores. The socks are super thick and so up to the task for super cold weather. The main problem is that the feet tend to overheat easily and sweat.

So I find myself often needing to take the socks off to cool down. haha. Still when it’s super cold out and even inside – as it often is – these are the only socks that are up to the task that I’ve found.

Since they have some nylon then they remain tough enough for heavy use and washing also. Not as breathable as pure wool but much thicker than a typical hand-made wool sock. The sock stretches enough even after it shrinks in the drier so the size is good.

Okay, Carhartt has nailed it with these socks!! They must be made from yeti fur!!! First you notice the sheer thick quality wool, but they arnt so chunky that you end up having to wear your “big ass boots” to work.

Nope, they fit just perfect in your everyday work boot! The only way I can describe walking around in just the “yeti fur” Socks, is like stepping in powder fresh snow without the cold, or walking on a cloud (I’ve never done this but I’m imagining).

At the end of the day your old sucky wool socks will be all stretched out and clumping around your toes and arches; not the Carhartt Yeti Fur Socks!!!! They hold their damn position and statue! Thank you Carhartt!.

These are definitely cold weather socks. They are thick, soft but not heavy. I had him try them for fit. he wears a size 12 shoe and these fir snuggly but not tight. Merino wool is the best for maintaining heat.

These will be great for skiing and other winter activities. Keeping your feet warm and dry is imperative in the cold. These socks are perfect for that purpose.

I am happy with these socks, being an old time user of them. I just needed to buy some new ones, having worn out my old ones. They need to go through a couple of machine washes to snug up a little more for me, then they’re perfect.

Other than merino wool medium weight from Bombas for cool-cold, these Carhartts “are the Daddy” heavy socks containing sufficient wool to be warm in a colder environment. The only sock better than the aforementioned are my electric heated socks.

I hate cold toes, I repeat, I HATE COLD TOES. So with my sock arsenal I am good to go. Carhartt is the best!.

Comfort and warmth says it all about these socks, like no other sock I have ever bought. They caress your feet, rather than crush them like a boa-constrictor. Having warm feet is far more about blood circulation than insulation, but these socks also score high for insulation.

A slight downside. The wool fabric used is very fine and the weave complex to achieve their superb insulation quality, which means the socks are delicate, vulnerable to rough handling. But overall, if your feet are often cold, these are the socks you have always been looking for.

For the past 2-3 years I have worn these socks due to working in a factory sweating. My feet used to get so sore I could barely walk by Friday and I was sweating so much my feet where pale white by the end of my shift.

I bought these socks due to reviews saying it would help and without a doubt it relieved my foot pain and no more sweaty feet. Well today I bought a pair of walmart socks due to necessity and I am now pissed off how much I’ve gotten accustomed to amazing socks my feet hurt after a few hours of them.

So needless to say don’t buy these socks enless your willing to stick with them because the moment you switch to something different you will instantly regret it. 5 stars for amazing socks 1 star for such amazing quality no other socks compare and now I can only wear these.

While their is nothing wrong with the item, it didnt fully meet my expectations. I wear a 10 1/2 to 12 depending on the footwear and you cant find anything but large (6-12) on the shelves. The Carhartt socks I have are great, they didnt constantly fall down your leg and bunch up on the boot, and the heel ends up going up past my ankle.

While working they eventually bunch up painfully at the balls of my feet. So, as far as the revelation that a medium might fit better is concerned, it worked phenomenally! Just waiting on a different pair to see if those work even better.

I was disappointed. I bought these socks for the extra cushion they offered in the sole. While the material is indeed soft, the socks turned out to be too narrow and confining, more of a compression sock than a sock I expected to wear all day.

I want to return it for a full refund but is not clear how I can do it. I did not use them and I have the packing material but do not have a return label authorization to send it back to you free of charge.

These boot socks are calf height, they didn’t lie, bit the you that muscular calves, having something hit right in the calf can be irritating. How about an OTC version. Riding boots are TALL.

Your socks are the best! I have never been disappointed and have tried several styles. The winter work boot sock is a must if you work outside on a daily basis like we do!

The calf height-winter boot sock continues to slide down during the day. Doesn’t make it uncomfortable, just unexpected when the sock is bunched up at the top of my boot.

I bought these socks, looking for a comfortable, breathable foot experience. The socks are indeed breathable, but the weave is far from comfortable. The weight may be too thin, and each thread is discernible underfoot.

And, after wearing the socks about 5 times this past summer, the heels started to fray, and now I have holes in each of the heels. I’ve always liked ragg socks, but the quality of these leaves a lot to be desired.

These are super comfortable, but would be more so if they came in plus size for those of us with wider lower leg. I had to cut off the banding at the top because it was too tight to be comfortable. Now they do not stay up, but it is the only way I can wear them.

I could not find these or any other socks in extended length nor extended size. I would appreciate it Lands End would consider improving this situation since they do offer plus size clothing.

Recently, just ordered my first pair for myself. I have ordered several pairs for my partner, and we have both been impressed with the quality, and he with the fit and comfort. Some of his pairs are a couple of years old, and he wears them constantly, and the are indistinguishable from his newer pairs as they aren’t yet showing signs of aging.

However, as others have stated the sizing is off for the women’s socks, they run larger. According to the size chart, I should be a medium. However, after reading some reviews, I sized down to a small, and very happy that I did, as they fit perfectly, even after being washed and dried.

They didn’t shrink at all. They feel good, however they do not feel as soft as his Bombas. My pair feels as though they were made with less cotton. I am still fairly pleased with them, and will purchase more in the future.

I wear a shoe size 8.

My young adult daughters loved their Bombas Ankle Socks for Christmas this year. These socks are comfortable with sneakers for casual, everyday activities as well as working out & walking for exercise.

The blister tab on the back of the sock is really effective & comfortable too. Purchasing them at Dick’s rather than buying online was very convenient too so I could judge the size by looking at the socks in person.

I purchased size Med for women’s size 9-9. 5 shoes.

I bought one pair of these socks and thought they were great. I ordered three more–same style, same size, same color. The three pairs that arrived were not even close to the same quality, feel, fit or appearance as the first pair.

The fabric blend, i. e. , percentage of cotton and of other materials, on the Nordstrom website description did not match what was on the packaging of the socks. I returned the three right away and exchanged several emails with Bombas customer service.

It appears to me that Bombas is capable of making good socks (or maybe I have the only good pair) but quality control is seriously lacking. I will not buy any more Bombas socks.

The socks I have been ordering and using for the past 20 years have been discontinued. So, I was forced to try these socks. They are much thinner than the All Weather Work Socks I previously used. These may be ok for others, but not for me.

These keep my feet warm in winter and dry even when it is warm. I wear them except for the hottest times of year because they provide a great cushion while wearing boots. They cushion the foot and prevent chafing of the legs.

I bought two pair about three years ago. They have held up well, I was pleasantly surprised by how long they lasted since I wear them about 9-10 months a year. And at the price, you can’t beat them. I have paid more for socks that didn’t wear as well and were not as comfortable.

I wish I knew who makes them so I could thank them directly.

Been searching high and low for a good tube sock! These are perfect! My son has wide 12. 5 feet and fit great! Already washed and washed up nicely with no stretching out at the top! Will be back for more!.

Great winter sock, great quality but after a few washes it they seemed to shrink a little bit, even though they were hang dried. This is expected with wool. Kept my feet warm in -20-30C temperatures in non winter boots.

WHne wearing winter boots, the socks would keep my feet dry and very comfortable, I noticed the heel sections wearing off after a few days worth of use and only 2 washes but that maybe due to my feet and tac boot wear and tear on my socks and feet from having them on almost 16 hours.

The socks wicks the sweat from my feet and since wearing these socks, my boots and feet do not have that slight foot odour. I would recommend these socks to anyone working in cold to freezing temperatures.

Way to thick a sock for summer use. Winter only and for boots only. Sock is to thick for any other footwear besides boots. And it seems the little thread loops on the inside unravel very easily, these will get wrapped on your toes when trying to put the sock on.

It’s an ok sock but it ain’t worth the money.

Durable. Super warm, and very cushy. Keep my feet nice and warm when I’m outside the cooler climates. Only down side is feet will sweat when you have have to go inside for a long period of time (but that’s what I expected because of the wool blend).

I bought these about a month ago and now they are my favorite go to socks. They aren’t too thin but enough to keep your feet warm but not to the point where my feet can’t breathe. I would definitely purchase again!.

My boyfriend absolutely loves these socks. They feel heavy duty while being lightweight, removes the odor those long wet shifts leave, and wicks the sweat. He raved about them. I’ll definitely be a repeat customer.

Love the quality of Carhartt.

I’ve been converting most of my cycling clothing over to Velocio over the past year. I purchased two pairs of Winter Wool Socks. They felt great out of the box and loved the high cuff height for winter (and preferable height).

However, after one wash they went from 8 inches in height to about four inches. Still love the foot sole padding and would give them five stars if they didn’t shrink so much.

The sole has the perfect thickness and is warm enough for this year’s mild winter (no need for toe or shoe covers). I was disappointed that after one wash they went from 8-inch cuffs to about 4-inch cuffs.

It’s not a problem with leg warmers, but shorter-length socks are not my style if wearing shorts or knee warmers.

I race CX in the Chicago Winter and train in temps down into the mid 20’s. Cold digits are always a challenge. For me, socks that are too thick restrict blood flow and result in initial comfort and longer term numbness along with very cold feet.

These socks are very warm without being overly thick – this allows for good circulation and the required room in the shoe for warmth maintenance – this for me is achieved through good circulation of blood throughout the foot combined with room around the toes for air circulation.

This results in proper insulation and maintenance of foot temps for longer periods than with either very heavy or thin socks. All of this to simply say that these socks have absolutely been the best option for me.

Enough cush and thickness for comfort without being burdensome, love these socks – I am on my third set of two.

I got 10 or so pairs of these 4 years ago and cycle through them during the week. I use them all year despite it being a cold weather sock. I’ve never had an issue with my feet getting too hot and the padding really helps makes boots more comfortable.

They’ve also held up to 4 years of abuse with no issues. Some have color faded from countless washes but you’d only be able to tell if you compared them to a brand new sock. None have broken down yet but I’ll be asking for more from family for this holiday season.

When I first saw them I thought the price was outrageous but considering how long they last and how they stay perfect the whole time it’s more than worth it. If it helps sway you, I’ve used these socks in Korea and now Fort Drum.

Stuff them in a good cold weather boot and you’ll never have an issue.

Most people think that wool socks (and I mean quality wool) are only for cold weather. Nothing could be further from the truth. Wool breathes very well and it maintains body temp for your feet whether its cold or hot outside.

Wool also wicks away sweat (unlike cotton) which keeps your feet relatively dry. Fox Rivers heavy hiking socks are the best that I have found since my old backpacking days in the 1970s. Thank you for making a quality product!.

Socks are made in USA and arrived in a timely manner. The size LARGE are for shoe sizes 10 to 13. This wasn’t specified on the website, so I ordered the wrong size, but will exchange. My nephew said they were the kind he wanted, just too big.

Also, can’t return at Walmart, need to send them back.

Blew a hole in the side of one of these on the first day. No hard wear, just walking around the house with a thick pair of socks over them. Save your money and buy something of better quality.

The “white” socks were off – maybe a slight shade grey – but not as white as expected. And the thickness in the soles was not there – much thinner than expected.

I bought me first pair about 10 years ago and loved them. Unfortunately the quality has deteriorated and so do the socks! They develop holes very fast, and the material sheds even faster. These are the best socks I’ve ever owned, but I can not justify the cost when they don’t last.

If holes don’t develop, the. The material sheds and I’m left with patches that are nothing but the nylon, or spandex webbing.

I’m retired, but my dogs, a Black Mouth Cur male and a brindle Catahoula / Pit mix Cur female, are not! Every morning, every season, weekends included, we cross the highway close to our house and wander and kinda hunt and mostly walk and de-stress and commune with the outdoors in a reclaimed prairie area that includes about 90 acres of scrub and woods and trails and borders the railroad line.

We usually stay out for over an hour (longer, if a train gets between us and home) and never. NOT ONCE. have my feet been cold! I’ve always liked socks that came to my knees and rarely could find any.

I also buy them a little large, knowing that after several washings, they will tighten up a little. I usually get about 3-4 years use from each pair, but then I am using them every day. I normally buy 3 pair each Fall and sometime during the winter, a couple of old pair will give out in the heels.

I think it is just from how I walk and from always shoving them into boots. These are also the most cushioning I’ve found, and important feature to me since I have neuropathy. Please keep making them!.

I bought these to use with rubber hunting boots. The socks are bulky and handle moisture well. Over the calf length just right for rubber boots. Like them so much that I’m getting another pair while they are still available.

The soft bulk ot these would not be my first choice with stiffer leather hunting boots, but they are my favorite for use with rubber hunting boots.

I bought these socks 4 years ago from Duluth when I lived in Florida (but visited Maine) and in my review back then I promised to review them once I’d worn them a bit. Well, it’s a bit later than I expected but the time for a review has come.

This has been a pretty darn cold winter in Maine and I’ve been wearing these socks with a pair of quality hunting boots while out bird watching in snow & icy conditions, and I’ve gotta say that my feet have been warm, dry, & comfortable every time.

They are now my “go-to” socks in cold weather, especially when the temperature is well below freezing. They are so comfortable that I just ordered another pair this morning to wear while the first pair is being cleaned.

Although these socks would probably be comfortable in any weather, I especially recommend them for use in very cold weather.

The XL size is described as a fit for shoe sizes 13-15. No way. I thought I had finally found a roomy wool sock for my size 12 feet, but these are VERY tight fitting all the way up the calf. I don’t have large calves.

To be fair, my foot is on the wide side. These socks are as tight as compression socks, especially on the first wear. I needed a compression sock donning tool to put them on. I thought I’d have to return them, but the donning tool did stretch them after a couple wears.

(The sock donner from Sigvaris is excellent, BTW) The quality of the socks is excellent. This saga worked out well for me in the end. In my opinion the XL sock could work quite well on size 10-12 feet,.

These are my go-to socks when I go hiking in the mountains during the coldest part of the winter. They’re very comfortable to wear and they’re very warm. Best of all, they don’t itch. Most wool items make me itch so some degree.

But not these socks. They keep my feet toasty warm all day and there’s no itch at all. I own several pairs of these socks, but I always purchase a couple more pairs each time they go on sale. That way I have plenty on hand and I also have some put back, just in case Duluth ever discontinued them (they do that from time to time).

I wear a size 16 in boots and the size XL in these socks fit my feet perfectly. I’ve tried numerous cold weather socks over the years and these are by far the best. Don’t hesitate. buy a pair, give them a try, and see for yourself.

Awesome socks – I’m a woman size 8 shoes & I bought the smallest size for me. They’re great! Stay up all day, lightweight but still keep your feet warm & look better than most socks also. I’ve only worn them a handful of times so I can’t say how long they will last yet, but I love them so far.

Nothing beats polypropylene for quick drying—just what you need on two week canoe trip in Yukon. Dry in a few hours in mild weather, unlike wool which will stay wet(though warm) for days.

Not too thick. Not too thin. Nice comfortable sock. Perfect thickness for all footwear
