20 Best Wireless Bike Speedometer (2022 Updated)

Excellent ‘plug & play’ unit that does what your crappy ‘magnet on the spoke’ computer does only it’s easier to install, it works all of the time, and, more to the point, it’s accurate. The automatic backlight is a bonus.

This computer does everything I wanted without the unnecessary options of the Garmin.

Easy to use and download your ride which is very easy good value for the price,and doesnt cost a fortune like some well known brands.

Cateye makes good cycle computers, but I like this one the best simply because the readout is so large–I usually wear reading glasses, so can’t see small figures, but these are large enough to easily see, without glasses.

They are very accurate, and last a very long time on a battery–I have them on all five of my bikes, and I ride a LOT (about 15,000 kilometers a year). I rotate bikes, and on one bike, the computer shows that I have ridden more than 10,000 km alone–without a battery change, over the course of the last couple years.

Very easy to set up. I used to have one computer and separate mounts for each bike, but eventually got one for each–not so expensive, look good, and work fine. Over the years, I’ve bought at least six of these–one didn’t work, it keep restarting after about 10km, sent it back, got an exchange, and no issues.

Going over in-city rail tracks, where electric trains run, the screen goes to zero for the moment crossing the tracks (the electric field is too strong there), but within a second two, the screen is back on, nothing lost or changed.

If you don’t need or want GPS/Smartphone (I don’t), then this is as good as it gets.

Set this up according to the specs required and it worked until I swithced my Lezne 1100XL macrodrive front light on, which immediately stopped the computer from working. Apparently the electomagnetic pulse from the light interferes with the computer, which is quite a common problem with the cheaper cateye computers.

Suggested solution was to downgrade the light to a less powerful one, or buy a more expensive computer. My solution was to mount the light upside down on the bar and move it as far away from the computer as is comfortably possible so the stem is effectively between the computer and light.

The computer now works well providing I dont use the strobe flashing light mode on the light. Otherwise a good computer, clear to read and does what I want it to do without being stupidly complicated.

I really like the Strada Slim because it does everything I want a bike computer to do and is accurate and easy to use. I would’ve given it a 5star rating if the paper directions included with the Strada Slim were not useless garbage.

Impossible to understand. If you purchase this item go to the Cateye web site and download their directions. Much easier to follow. You can also find many tutorials on You-tube related to setting up and using the Strada Slim.

Well priced and simple to set up and use. Note that the computer comes with a small mount that can be attached to your bike stem using zip-ties (included in package). I didn’t realize that and went and bought a $30 plastic cateye mount which, while useful, seems ridiculously overpriced.

Good functions including trip timer, trip distance, avg/max speed, odometer, and clock. The trips need to be manually reset if you are tracking day-to-day. Also, it goes to sleep after 1 hour of inactivity so must press button to wake up.

Solid product at this price point ($30 CAD) and would buy again.

This is a great piece of kit. Once mounted, it’s easy to use and read and is very accurate in measuring distance (exactly the same as my GPS watch), on short or long rides. We’ve mostly used it on the turbo trainer but also on long rides outside and no issues with either.

If you are using this on a turbo trainer at all make sure you don’t follow the pictorial guide provided when fitting the sensor (which shows to mount on the front wheel) and put it on the back wheel instead.

The only annoyance is that because the sensor is on the back wheel the reader had to be fixed half way along the crossbar / top tube, as the signal will not reach it if it’s fitted to the handlebars.

This makes reading it trickier.

My first wireless computer and it definitely looks less cluttered and neater than traditional wired sets. The large sensor fits well onto the rear of the fork and can be adjusted to pickup the magnet on the wheel.

As yet I haven’t road tested to see if the sensor maintains its position but am confident it will. The head unit is easy to fit with the supplied zip ties and the display is clear and easy to read.

Reading the instructions to set the unit up is the hardest part. Once set up, it is fabulously easy to use. I use it when riding my old motorcycles and the clear digits tell you your speed very easily.

I have already recommended it to my friends and when others see it, they will also want details.

I have used this to replace my very old non-functioning BK Precision meter. It works very well for a very inexpensive instrument. One note though is that it came in a box labeled digital multi meter.

It is a handy piece of equipment to go along with an ESR meter in the testing of capacitors.

Seller gave me a product that did not work (flashes horizontal lines). Very dim even with no daylight or artificial light. Takes a long time to find input (15+ seconds, or you must turn off then on again).

Remote only works from back. Took 7 days to hear back from seller. Seller wanted me to take $20 to keep the defective product or I pay for shipping, and wait until he receives it to get my money back.

Bad product and poorer customer service.

Cateyes have long been known as a solid product and an excellent bang-for-the-buck, and that was always my personal experience as well. I’ve been out of racing and serious riding for over a decade, but recently got back into road riding, so after a bit of research, I went with another Cateye, the Velo 7.

This model gives all the necessary features, and none of the stupid ones (carbon output? Seriously???) Being a wired model, it’s not prone to the signal glitches the more expensive wireless models are known to be, and the wire isn’t a headache or hindrance, at all.

They’ve also made a couple improvements since my last Cateyes (back in the late 90’s to early 2000’s), like better clamping systems, and larger screens. Set-up was not as difficult as I anticipated, though i did have a problem calibrating the wheels/tires.

I tried to fine tune it for the 700×32 tires i was running, and was getting low readings that I knew weren’t right. So I zeroed it again, then skipped the exact tire measurement part, and just went with the “quick set-up” and just entered “700”, and now my distances and speed are what they’re supposed to be, even running these bigger tires.

That’s about all I got. For around $25 delivered, these are probably as good as it gets.

I purchased the Velo 7 thinking that programing it would be similar to the wireless Strada I have. Programming is a little different, but the biggest difference is that the odometer on the Velo 7 is not programmable.

The Strada also lets you program tire size to the millimeter whereas the Velo 7 programs to the nearest centimeter, not particularly significant. I got the Velo because my wireless Strada does not work with my rechargeable headlight.

When I turn the headlight on the Strada reads zero mph. The Velo 7 is unaffected by the light. So my tradeoff for a basic computer that will work with my headlight is the wire and no capability to set the odometer.

For a speedometer at less than twenty dollars that is acceptable to me.

Only used it a few times but seems to be working just fine. The only thing I wish it had on the total miles are the tenths. It only gives full miles. Other than that it is great. I bought 2 so my wife and I can both have the same model.

Easy to hook up. Has all the features we need.

I cant seem to get any tech help. I can’t pair with my phone. Any advice?

Good product

I bought this originally thinking I’d use it for my cargo bike, but then decided to put it on our tandem. It replaced the old computer, which had a thick wire wrapped around the front fork. This computer eliminates the wire, and is easy for an older, “non-techie” person to use.

I’ve used Cateye products for many years, and have found them durable.

I had one on my bike that lasted for over a decade. My son wanted one for his bike he got for Christmas, so I went with a known good brand. Easy install, works great, seems pretty accurate. Made in Japan vs China is a plus.

I can’t fault this product. It feels good quality and well made. Unless you want elevation or GPS, it has all the functions you will need. I like the arrow indicator that tells you if you are travelling at above or below your average speed.

There are cheaper available, but it is certainly value for money.

Delivery is fast, all according to the description. PC is easy to install, the functionality is excellent, the price is the lowest. I recommend!

Pretty good low cost odometer / speedometer. Easy to fit as there are no wires, but came across a couple of issues: 1) the sensor is strapped to the bike forks with tie-wraps but although there is a a rubber pad supplied it can be moved no matter how tight the ties are, 2) the magnet for the spoke has a fairly soft plastic body, so you can’t tighten that much and the part can move on the spoke.

I put some tape around the spoke before fitting the magnet and that helps keep in place, but not 100% secure. I also found that the sensor registers better if the magnet is offset from the sensor centre line – I have found the same issue with a different make on my other bike.

Setup is fairly easy, though the instructions are basic. I found the calibration table for wheel (tyre) circumference to be quite close to actual. Measured values compared to GPS recorded data for a ride showed distance to be slightly low, but max speed to be slightly higher – which is odd as a calibration error would have meant both parameters were either high or low.

In use it is easy to read as the display is a good size. Display can be set to scroll through parameters, though the instructions don’t mention this. I haven’t had it long enough to determine charge life of the battery, but so far it looks good.

I don’t use the backlight (which works well) as I don’t ride at night, but that might change the charge life. A slight niggle is that if you choose to record in miles / mph the temperature reads if F, it will only show temp in C if set to kilometres / kph – it would be nice to be able to choose independently.

Very happy with the delivery which was about 48 hours, good start. Setting up is painless but as usual the translation is not fantastic. Bought this article to replace another bought last year noticing than this was rechargeable on USB, its predecessor going through far too many 2032 batteries for comfort.

Having used this now for a couple of weeks has been satisfying. Tells me the speed I am achieving and the current time and date with a backlight which is essential for 30 minutes use daily. Although not much interested in the other features at this time they may interest others but naturally include total time, distance, averages etc and looking forward to making use of these in the future.

Character size and viewing angle excellent After using for several months my sentiments about this product are much the same. Rarely needs a charge and the sensor mounted on the front forks is largely unnoticed.

Good bright display and easy to set up. As it is rechargeable with lithium battery it lasts for ages. Instead of changing batteries and losing all the saved mileage and time etc, just plug into USB and charges very quickly with no information loss.

Unit is moulded in 1 piece so waterproof, it feels nice to handle and although there are reports of it being flimsy, this is not true. Only 1 annoyance – have now found out that if you are using miles, the temperature is set as Fahrenheit.

Spent ages as there is no information on this anywhere online. Tried the unit in kilometres, bingo. up it comes in Centigrade. Have not used F for decades so only understand C. Not serious – but just annoying it cannot.

The Cateye Velo 8’s that my wife and I have used for the last 6 years have been faultless and simple to use so a wireless version was a logical choice for our new bikes. I looked at Strada, Padrone and similar models because of their larger displays and sleek design but they lacked the calorie function and screen backlight function of the Velo Plus VT235W model.

I have marked it down for performance simply because it was such a pain to set up the tyre size. Once the bike shop had shown me what to do it was a doddle but the process was not shown correctly in the instructions.

NB that the calorie function of a similar model was described in a road. cc review as rudimentary and this is borne out by comparison to a friend’s more sophisticated computer. E. g. Velo 8 under-reading by 50% so if that’s important to you go for more sophisticated (and pricier) GPS models.

Nice and easy to set up only takes couple of minutes. Clear instructions so can easily set wheel or tyre size options, Easy to attach the screen to handle bars with the supplied tie wraps and the same on the forks.

Magnet detector that fits on spoke just screws on so nice and easy. One button on screen once set up and running to pan through cycling time, average speed, top speed etc nice and easy and love the fact it has clock display.

Unit goes to sleep after one hour of not been used so saves battery and will not wake up till you press button to start it up again. Only downside is no back light for night time cycling but not really a big issue.

First off the build quality is very good. The problem is the installation specs may not work for your bike if you have high handle bars and wide forks with 29” tires. The problem is the cycle computer must be within 27” of the wheel sensor to work, and the wheel sensor must be within 5 mm of the magnetic that goes on one of the spokes, which puts the wheel sensor low on the forks.

This was barely possible to get to work on my wife’s Trek Verve. You can angle the wheel sensor to about 45 degrees, but any more and it won’t work.

The Cateye brand name has always been synonomous with quality at a fair price. The Padrone is no exception. Instructions were fairly clear and instalation was easy and straightforward. Be aware, however, (the instructions are not clear on this) that changing function view by pressing on the lower top/front does not work until the unit is completely and securely mounted on the handle bar or stem.

Once the unit is secured it is extremely easy to change the function view by just pressing on the lower prtion of the top. The unit itself is well designed and works well, it is just the instructions are not clear on when the tap feature will work.

The other thing that Cateye does is use the same size battery for both the sensor and the function unit and they use the common CR2032 button battery which is easy to obtain almost anywhere and not that expensive.

The Padrone does come with the two batteries installed and ready for use. Overall, I’m very satisfied with the purchase and would purchase another one if I had to.

Nice little thing. Takes a while to set up but works well and is rechargeable. Backlight is useful. Best to put some adhesive on the spoke magnet. Hard to get it tight enough but not really a big deal.

Switches on as soon as you start to ride which is good. Auto switch off too. Great for the money.

nice package but fork mounted sensor was too long to fit between spoke sensor and fork. Thus, it had to be mounted at an angle rather than square to frame. Required trial and error to get to to work but once located seemed to work ok.

the magnet mounted on spoke could not be securly fastened so remains to be seen if it stays in adjustment. display is clear and user friendly to set up.

Looks great, seems to work okay though the speed did display incorrectly at some points during my first ride out in it (showing around 8pm when I was doing over 20th). Hoping it’s just a glitch and repositioning the bit on the wheel might help.

Looks seriously cool and easy to read whilst riding. Easy enough to set up though it lists all tyre dimensions except for the ones on my bike (obviously!). Spoke to Tredz customer services and they recommended I just go with the nearest tyre diameter to mine, not ideal but shouldn’t effect the speed too much in the grand scheme of things.

Would recommend for people that just want to get an idea of their speed and distance on their rides.

1st the flaw: Outside electro-magnetic interference can cripple its’ function. Case in point, a blinking high current LED lamp can overload the wireless receiver of the computer. This caused the computer to not measure speed and hence not register distance.

I had to disassemble the LED lamp and electrically shield the internal circuitry to produce less interference. Once this was accomplished, the computer’s intended functions returned. The one feature the computer does not provide is pedal cadence.

Just two (mostly one) flaw. The rest is excellent! Time, ride time, average speed, top speed, trip distance, total distance (odometer). With a computer the size of a lollipop to provide all these functions is truly a marvel of technology.

The fact that the unit is wireless, makes this most likely the easiest device to install. All said, This computer is a feature rich, simple to use, and ergonomically efficient device.

I have had 2 gps bike computers and found them more trouble than their worth. If all you want is Speed, distance and average speed this is the computer for you. The numbers are large and legible. You can skip from screen to screen with the press of a a button.

I found, if I left my Quick on the Speed/Distance screen, I also had my average speed indicated with an icon on the left top corner. So basically I had all the information I wanted. The only thing missing from this computer from a gps computer is elevation.

I know the elevation gain in most of my local rides, so I don’t really miss it. And if I need to know, there is always a friend with a gps computer on the ride. If you need a lot of data and load it on your computer, and you are into Strava, this will not work for you.

If you want the basic data while you are riding, this beautifully designed computer is ideal. You cannot beat it for price, design and convenience. One more point. I thought I would like the rechargeable battery on my gps computer.

But basically it just became another thing to remember. The batteries in My Quick will last at least one year. Simpler really.

Hey, if you want a nice basic 8-function speedometer for your bikes and trikes, then this older tech Sigma Sport BC8. 12 is for you. The wired connection means you have to deal with only a single battery in the system, and the battery lasts 6 months to a year before it needs replacing.

I have several bikes, and with my newest bike a friend put on a “knock-off” computer product, which I have removed. The “knock-off” was hard to read due to the fonts being too small, and it wasn’t accurate.

So, I ordered this basic Sigma computer, and I am pleased with it. I will stick with the Sigma product. Easy to read screen, accurate, and the price is right. Some suggest the Sigma computers are difficult to program, but I disagree.

I am usually not good with this “stuff,” but if one reads the instructions slowly and carefully, they won’t have a problem.

I was looking for a basic wireless computer and this one is about perfect. It is simple to set up and easy to install on the bike. It gives an accurate mileage and it has 2 great features. It adds the total time on the saddle and the total mileage of all the rides you will do.

The only drawback is that you have to flip manually through the screens to see all the entries. Overall, very satisfied with this purchase.

This is the third CatEye speedometer I have purchased for three different bikes. CatEye makes quality products that last. I purchased this basic wired speedometer, even though the wiring makes it slightly more difficult to install, simply because it was cheaper.

I am not using this to train for racing or sync with my fitbit, I just want to know how fast and how far I am going today. I particularly like the fact it has a “trip” odometer that tells you how far you biked today, and a regular odometer that has your cumulative mileage (it can be reset to zero, so you can track your annual mileage if you wish).

Setting up the electronic part is a little funky, you need to be good with complicated directions and you need to know the diameter of your tires. But if you have average ability at working on your bike, you will be able to install it and get it working.

I considered downloading an app on my phone, buying a phone bracket, and getting my speedometer that way. But since I keep my phone for many years, I decided that shaking it over bad roads that might cause my phone to die prematurely was not as good as paying $25 for something that (with battery changes) will last for at least 10 years, probably 20.

Have used these wired cyclometers for 30 years, and have the Velo 7 on two bikes for 2 years, only replacing my original because I dropped it in the garage. My original did not have a clock and automatic start/stop, and both of these features are great additions.

I really don’t need any additional functions, nor GPS as I ride bike ways in my area. I also do not need wireless, the small 1 foot wire is easily secured to the fork with ties, and allows for a much smaller sending unit at he wheel, and uses one battery in the computer as opposed to two as the wireless models have.

The single battery also lasts longer as there is no constant sending and receiving the wireless signal. For timing cadence, I simply watch my elapsed trip timer and count my pedal strokes for 10 seconds, then multiply the result by 6.

As an amateur, you can get really close to ball parking your cadence in a very short time. Other options of watts, calories burned, carbon footprint are all extra clutter in my opinion- if any of this is important, you can do the math formulas with the data this unit provides.

This is the third Velo 7 I have purchased, and this one was for a friend who has been using his phone app gps–which is annoying and inaccurate most of the time. Riding specific bike paths makes mapping unnecessary as they have these devices along the way- called signs!.

All too often the phrase “Entry Level”is used to down-rate products that sit at the BASIC end of a product line. I think the the correct word for CATEYE Velo 7 Bike Computer is “SIMPLE”. I am a long term, daily bicycle rider.

I also take multi day bicycle trips. The information I really need from a bike computer is accurate distance recording for trips, cumulative miles, time of day and current ride time. Average speed is nice too.

The Velo 7 has all of these functions. It is relatively easy to program and very easy to use. The hardwired connection between wheel rotation sensor and the computer cradle is fine for my needs and in my experience battery life is far better than computers with wireless rotation sensors.

Con1: I would gladly pay more $$ for a version of this computer that doesn’t require me to reenter tire size and total miles when I replace the battery. If you buy one, make sure you record your tire size somewhere that you are likely to remember.

Con2: I am old and ride a bike that allows an upright riding position. So the handlebars are further from the the wheel than on some bikes. The wire between the wheel rotation sensor and the cradle is just barely long enough for my bike.

If the wire were 3 inches longer it would have made my installation easier. Summary:Excellent value, ease of use, good basic functionality.

This gadget is OK but it turns itsself off for no reason. The first time it turned off on a bike ride, I checked the battery on the front forls which tested OK but changed it anyway. It didn;t improve and just decides not to work usually part way through a ride sometimes only a few yards from home.

I am used to this kind of equipment as my other cycle has a Halfords Bike Shed unit which has performed faultlesslessly for years. I am going to take it back and ask for a refund. Perhaps I just happen to have a faulty unit.

I had previous bought a couple of cyclometers shipped from China and they were unreliable, stopped working in rain. As soon as I opened the package the quality of 120 Wireless was obviously far superior.

Occasionally, when starting to ride it gives inaccurate speed that can last for 1 or 2km but overall pleased with the product for $20. I only started shopping at Decathlon a month or so ago and am impressed with the variety of products, quality and prices.

Overall really good, especially considering the price. One minor annoyance: the 1500 to 2500 mm range for manual entry of wheel circumference doesn’t go low enough for bikes with 16″ wheels (e. g. Brompton).

There is, however, a 16″ / 1. 5″ setting, which hopefully will give sufficient accuracy. If not, I’ll just use this computer on my road racing bike.

Patience when fitting is rewarded. Learned to fit the fork bits with the O rings first, then attached the arms, then it was a doddle. We have these fitted to 4 family road bikes all year round. As the chief mechanic- I welcome the fact the chain and bottom brackets are Crud Free ! Servicing the bikes is much quicker and cleaner.

Shoes and feet stay cleaner and drier. Great value.

Looks and feels well made but it’s not great in use. The hole is too small to push pin through unless 100% precise on pin. This is not easy to notice until you start to compress the pin on tool. It’s difficult to get the chain free from tool once pin pushed through as tool pin does not retract far enough.

I will be buying another tool as it’s too much faff. Have had better cheaper tools.

Extremely lightweight but pretty strong. A bit fiddly but easy enough to construct and attach. These are my second pair. have replaced just the front guard which had caught something when cycling which snapped the lower extension.

My first pair bought over 3 or 4 yrs ago.

The computer works well and the wireless is a nice feature. I don’t use the heartrate monitor capabilities and I thought I wanted a computer with cadence but after the second ride I found I don’t need or use it.

The configuration is not as easy as it should be. I’m a senior operating systems administrator for a fortune 500 company so I know a little about computers and configurations and I had a hard time with the configuration of this device.

It is just not as intuitive as it should be. Once configured everything works well. The display could be a bit larger.

The cateye digital double wireless computer solved the issue I had with my previous cateye that stopped working due to interference from a Headlight. It is made very well and easy to install. The only issue I had was with the initial setup, which is a little tricky.

The instructions only show pictures of how to set it up, with no written explanation of each step. Other than that, it works great and is very accurate. I’m going to purchase the heart rate monitor to go with it as well.

Have not had it out on the road as yet. Cold here! However, after setting it up. READ the instructions carefully, I missed the very start were you have to depress BOTH buttons. So took me way longer than it should have.

Also, sending unit battery was dead on delivery which didn’t help. I have my bike in the trainer and the cadence feature is very useful. Head unit as a whole could be larger, but the numbers are clear and easy to read.

For the money it seems okay. I had a Cateye micro before this that lasted about 3 years.
