19 Best Wireless Rain Gauge (2022 Updated)

The unit has a slot in the lower (short) gauge that seems to be for use mounted on a fencepost or similar. But it don’t have enough strength to stay upright in a wind. If you fabricate a mount to set it up in that configuration, the tube-inside-a-tube configuration makes it impossible to read the rain amount without pulling out the inner tube.

Water accumulates in the outer tube, even when the inner tube ismounted in it, again leading to problems reading. Seems pretty consistent, if set up correctly, but just harder to use and read than it should be.

Meniscus is high, making it a bit of a challenge to read correctly. I’ve been trained to read to the bottom of the meniscus with lab measuring equipment, but those don’t have as large a range from top to bottom of the meniscus as this one does.

Instructions don’t address this. Also, remember to take it inside or turn both parts over if freezing is expected, to keep it from breaking.

Men and my son are weather buffs. This is accurate in relation to your location and other surrounding weather stations if you connect to Wunderground or Weathercloud sites. Easy to set up and no issues going on 3 months!!.

Local Weather is Correct! Also it sends info to Weather Underground and is available on the WU App.

Once upon a time we possessed the predecessor to this model. For years it served us well until I allowed ice to freeze in the gauge. I patched the cracks and continued using the old model until it needed repairing again.

I was happy to find what I thought was an exact replacement. Not so. The new model arrived, and immediately its inferiority became apparent. Whereas the OLD gauge had the numbers inscribed directly into the plastic, the NEW gauge had a cheap sticker indicating the rain depth.

Not only that, but the sticker was not properly placed, leaving a big gap between the bottom of the container and the zero mark on the number sticker. In addition to that, the numbers on the sticker are not the right distance apart – they are too close together.

So there are two systematic errors introduced into any measurement of rain. I surmise that TAYLOR farmed out the manufacture to an inexpensive firm, and they did not do their homework to insure a quality product.

I recommend against buying this particular item.

I wanted an unbreakable rain gauge that wouldn’t break if I dropped it. This one fits the bill. I’m satisfied with it. It works well.

I bought this for my husband and he likes it a lot. He highly recommends this rain gauge and says it’s well worth the money.

The item was scratched but it was only cosmetic. It was on the collection funnel which is outside out of sight, so no real big deal. Otherwise it was easy to get set-up.

Gave it to my son forChristmas .He says it is working great.

cheaply maid, within one month, the support for the tieder-todder became loose and was lost. I was able to fix it with a sewing needle. A month later, one of the plastic tabs that hold the unit to the base broke.

I would NEVER recommend this for anyone. It’s a waste of my hard earned money.

I purchased two and each went to two different families in Texas during the hurricane season. Both are extremely happy with them. South Texas is known for multi inch rain storms and it’s great to have this metering devise.

The outer tude has no gradations, which means for rainfall greater than 1 inch, you have to pour the rain into the center tube for measuring. This seams like it could have been solved with markings. Certainly not as accurate as the current meathod, but whether i get 3.

45 or 3. 46 inches is not a big deal to me. Mark the outer tube in tenths only.

I also have a personal weather station atop my house. One of the problems with the weather station is the rain sensor is shallow and sometimes rainfall amounts are inaccurate because blowing rain does not record correctly.

This gauge will solve that, and with it all I have to do is adjust the measurements manually into my weather station records.

I have purchased two of these in the last three years. They last about a year before something will go wrong. Wind gauge will decline and break off. Temp will stick at a range. Rain gauge will quit working.

I purchased a 2nd thinking I would get lucky and it too did the same thing. So, set your expectations to replace every year or so and you will be happy.

About 14 months, and changing of batteries about every 4-6 months, the temperature stopped being accurate and was stuck on 102 degrees and after reset and new batteries it is stuck on -40 degrees. The wind direction paddle also stopped working for winds below 25mph.

And the wind speed clicking sound was likely the same reason the other reviewer said – the bearing is wearing out. I do recommend this product knowing that in a year or more it’s likely going to need replacing.

It worked perfectly and I was very satisfied, just too bad it didn’t last longer.

Easy to set up and get started. Had an older version of the AcuRite that worked great but did not have the AC adapter so lost history when changing batteries. New unit has large easy to read screen. Very happy with this Weather Station.

Beware of frost in winter. My old rain gauge lived six years to see that the one of my same brand faced the same. I appreciate the precision of reading brought by design. Thank you

This was a replacement after some 5years using the same model, destroyed by a garden strimmer. Easy to use and reliable, used every day.

Good design. The lid stops evaporation.

What I like about this range gauge is the big numbers. I can see it from my window and can roughly estimate how much rain fell. When water is in it the numbers are magnified. The strange thing about it is that instead of division markings for 10ths, it has 8 marks per inch.

Thankfully it is inexpensive as the first one I bought lasted about 2 years then developed a hairline crack that leaked.

Great little rain gauge! It is easy to read and is easy to stick in the ground. Mostly I appreciate that it doesn’t topple over! It also seems really sturdy and unlikely to break. I’m actually going to buy a few more for different places in my garden.

Definitely recommend for my gardener friends!.

good rain gauge. we have bought them for years. these recent 2 that we purchased have markings in 1/8ths instead of 1/10ths?!?!?!?!?! funny. We are country folks in Texas. so when we get a rain shower, no matter how little, we are talking to friends, family and neighboring ranchers “How much rain y’all get”!!! haha.

Well, as you well know, its always in TENTHS! “We only got 3 TENTHS yesterday”. “We got an inch and 2 TENTHS. These last two we purchased, for two different properties, about 6 miles apart. are in EIGHTHS?!?!?! lol.

very funny. So now its a standing joke in the community that we may have gotten 1 and 1/2 EIGHTS. they laugh and say how much is that? I laugh back and say 3/16 inch of rain. The laughing continues while all along they are trying to figure out how many TENTHS that is!!!!!! haha.

This cut down my water usage with the rain sensor. I will need to look to see if this can use the forecast feature to stop future watering. It didn’t rain last night but was forecasted to rain today.

When the system turned on this morning, it had just started raining. The app showed rain for each day in the 5 day forecast on the app.

The sensor arrived in good condition and in a reasonable time. It was well packed. Both parts of the sensor (receiver and transmitter) were easy to install. Programming was also simple. The unit worked as advertised the first time I tried it.

The only criticism I have is the gauge of the wire used for the common connection to the control panel and solenoid valves in the yard. My control panel does not have a connection for the rain sensor so the sensor must be installed between the control panel common connection and the solenoid valves.

The sensor wire is much much smaller than the existing wiring going to the yard.

I am an Irrigation tech by trade. Conservation Is a big part of my job. This wireless Rain Sensor Is the best complimentary Item you can add to your clock by far. I’ve Installed over 15 of them at my job.

Follow up’s on connection stability, program stability and ease of use and Installation, have exceeded my expectations! I would highly recommend this to anyone In need of a rain sensor. The easy to read display takes the guess work out of just how much rain has hit the sensor.

One of the last steps before pairing the 2 pieces Is “Remove the white sticker” on the receiver that covers the Green LED light. Most Installers fail to read the directions. This flashing light will let you know the unit Is functioning properly.

I was given the copper rain gauge years ago and I absolutely love the simplicity yet stunning design. When my son-in-law started a garden this year I knew this would be the perfect birthday gift. He loves it too and texts me after it rains so we can compare rain totals.

The only con is the copper needs to be maintained. During the winter I take the rain gauge and clean it up for the spring. At some point I will have to replace the tube because the sponge is breaking down.

Otherwise, I highly recommend the copper rain gauge for anyone with a garden or a yard for that matter.

I’m an avid gardener and live in the dry southwest, so measuring rain is important to me. I thought I could add something attractive and easy to empty and still measure the rain and verify that my sprinklers worked.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to measure the first 1/4 inch of rain. If you are looking for a cute “Wow, look at all the rain we got!” it’s good. If you want more precision, look elsewhere.

Got the gauge as a gift for my father. He has an electronic weather station and sometimes questions it’s accuracy. We got a nice rain 2 days after setting up the rain gauge. The electronic gauge said we got.

73″ of rain, the world’s coolest rain gauge read basically the same. The only complaint I have is the markings on the floating part of the gauge don’t go all the way around it, so if it somehow gets spun around, you can’t see the reading from afar.

I bought this as a gift. The object itself is beautiful. The utilitarian cardboard shipping box is not very attractive – I had hoped for something a little more “dressy”. When I opened the shipping box, the rain gauge was set inside.

It was not possible to fully zero the gauge–it’s close, but still registers 0. 1 inch. The glass tube should be wider to collect a larger cross-section of rain and allow the ball to move more freely and displace less of the water.

This rain gauge brings a classic flare to my yard. The kids love watching it fill up and reporting how much rain we got. Easy to stake into the ground, and durable.

Works great. It replaced an older unit that was damaged by hail, big hail!
