20 Best Wireless Rain Gauges (2022 Updated)

This item requires calibration before it will accurately measure the rain. Thats ridiculous. For this money and the simplicity of what it is, it should already be calibrated. The procedure for calibration is very tedious and unreliable.

Wouldnt have bought it if Id know this. Wouldnt ever recommend it.

This is our first Acurite rain gauge and so far it has proven to be a good one. The only suggestion would be for them to include a screen to keep out small trash from getting into the gauge. This easily fixed buy using some fine screen found in any hardware store.

Highly recommend this product.

I owned two of this companies prior model. They lasted about one year each even though they worked well for that time. This is a updated version that appears to be more accurate. Also, it’s a more modern design.

Only question is that there is no screen to prevent debris from blocking the bottom of the collection bowl. I’ve only had it for 2 1/2 weeks so I’ll se how long it lasts and how easily it clogs up with debris.

Overall I’m very pleased with the gage so far.

It does all that’s expected. Perfectly integrated with the Netatmo app. Installation is a no-brainer: just insert batteries and good to go. On the other side it needs calibration and it’s strange that the original calibration is far away from the correct one.

Calibration itself is a very easy procedure anyway. Only problem is the radio signal: set 5 meters away from the weather station with “only” a window glass in the middle but loses signal every while and then.

I had to move it closer and doing that it gets within less than the recommended 3 meters away from building walls. So far, it works. Maybe useful to mention that it is not provided with any sort of stand or pole or whatever, so mine is just sitting on the ground at the moment.

– Synchronised with photo with simple one touch. – Separately purchased mounting bracket for wind and rain are sturdy but allow many options for positioning. – App is easy to use and displays station outputs in easy to understand format and logical progression of info – was sceptical at first about design versus traditional weather station but completely satisfied after a few weeks of monitoring.

Teo new units in a row not showing any value even when the rain is pooring down, and the Netatmo support team just say that everything looks to be ok. Don’t waste your money

The rain gauge was easy to install on a fence post and has been very accurate. The materials are a good quality but only time will tell. I’ve had the gauge up for about 3 months with no problems. It is easy to clean and doesn’t require any special tools.

I use a bottle brush that is normally used on tubing for aquariums. The humidity will sometimes build up and fog up the outer tube which makes it difficult to read the rainfall without taking the tube out.

That’s not an issue because I empty it every day a 6 – 7 a. m. to keep a record of the rainfall amounts. I haven’t posted to the group but I may do that at some point. The inner tube records rainfall up to 1″.

Rainfall in excess of 1″ overflows the inner tube into the outer one. If you do have water in the outer tube, you are instructed to dump the first 1″ out and then pour the contents of the outer tube into the inner one.

My wife was always asking how much rain we got and now I can tell her. There are alot of microclimates around here and it may rain more on one side of the street than another.

This rain guage is extremely sturdy but remember to bring the inner cylinder and top funnel indoors on extremely cold days. This rain guage consists of a heavy durable plastic and has a bracket to mount to a post.

Measurements are easy to read. Snow can be measured to determine snow to water ratios by bringing your inner cylinder and funnel indoors and allowing the snow to freely fall into top of guage You can also purchase a Stratus rain guage cleaning brush that will NOT scratch the guage when cleaning it.

I bought my first longterm rain gauge about 10 years ago. I liked it so well I bought one for my son. He lives 1/2 mile down the road. After each rain we text each other the amount. Sometimes I win sometimes he does.

These gauges are very accurate. We had a monster hail storm, mid July, and both our gauges were broke. I reordered new ones for both of us right away so we could keep competing. I highly recommend them.

The cost is worth it. They are well built. They won’t hold up when you get golf ball size hail and 60 70 mph winds for 2 hours. Of course we had a lot of damage to our homes. At least we have been able to keep track of the rain.

Love the big easy to read style, recently got a quarter inch and it measured true, reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the mounting platform seems a little light weight. I can see myself bumping into it at some point and breaking it.

I take the rain holder indoors when rain is not in the forecast. Pretty pleased and would recommend it especially if you can mount it in a low traffic area.

This is my third purchase of the waterfall rain gauge. Broke one and misplaced another only to find it after I had put the new gauge to use. I like this rain gauge because it attaches easily to the edge of my one and only raised bed and because its large numbers and red float make it easy to read from a distance.

One complaint is that the red float fades with age. Even so, the gauge is still easy to read.

We love the fact this water gauge is mountable. We have a very small backyard and were not getting accurate readings with other gauges due to either our house or 8 ft fence blocking the rain. We mounted it on the top rail of our fence after applying a sticky piece of white vinyl we got at our local craft store to the back so the readings could be easily read against our dark fence at a distance.

Nice, big numbers. Easy to see. Comparing it with another type of rain guage, it looks like you need to read the rainfall amount at the top of the orange ring, not center. I like the plastic tube as it should not shatter in cold temps, like glass does.

I ordered this rain gauge online & shipped to store because my local store did not have it in stock. I should have opened the package before I left the store…. it came with NO MOUNT. It’s suppose to have a green plastic mount that you can mount in the ground or on a post.

I got just the rain gauge, no mount so , it’s useless.

Have owned one of these for ten plus years. Love it. Wanted several for relatives but manufacturer changed from big yellow block numbers to these fancy script numbers which are much less legible. All in all good rain gague.

The red float fades but a coat of red paint once every five years fixes that. Not freezeproof, but that should be obvious. Bugs and small leaves occasionally get into tube but they are easily washed out.

Still better than any other inexpensive rain gague that I know of.

Excellent,very accurate Station for the price. Its minor flaws are running a few degrees high in full sun. That can be remedied with makeshift additional shield easily. The other is having to log n2 router isp to use software.

They need to change that. That’s why 4 instead of 5 stars.

I bought this for my disabled husband, he not only enjoys looking at it outside ,but enjoys knowing the weather conditions outside. I recommend this product. Very easy to set up

System was easy to setup. Connecting with Weather Underground allowed me to view the weather at my home via their app. Definitely recommend it.

Rain gauge was correct , no need to calibrate. The outside temp was 2 degrees colder than actual temp. I used 3 outside thermometers for control. Easy to recalibrate.

We recently purchased this. It was easy to set up and has great information on inside/outside temps, humidity, atmospheric pressure and time. We haven’t set up the rain gauge yet since we haven’t had rain in a while, and we haven’t found a flat, stable surface to place it since we have lots of trees around us.

The only con is we wish the display was brighter with more contrast.

Fairly simple rain gauge . East to set up. Very Good for a beginner . The features it has are really awesome

I have had several of these by differant manufacturers over the years they all fail eventually. this model I was particularly impressed with the size and quality of the rain collector. Setup was easy and faily quick I would recommend this to anyone without hesitation.

Nach dem der Regenmesser dieser Wetterstation kaputt ging, kaufte ich mir diesen Regenmesser. Fr mich war das ein Fehlkauf und ich bin sehr enttuscht.

Bought this to replace an older model rain gauge. This one has better functionality and is easy to set up and use. Signal from the outside station to the receiver good and strong.

Arrived one day earlier than the estimated arrival date. Good installation instructions. Very easy to install. Put batteries in the transmitter and receiver, mount the transmitter and your ready to get remote rainfall measurement.

I had to put my receiver on a window sill, wouldnt read through my brick walls. You may get in a line of sight situation.

Had one just like it which worked well & so does this one. Nice unit, No need to go outside to ck rain gage/s this one does it for you in the comfort of your own home. Was a “good buy!”

he first one I had lasted about 15 years. Outside yearlong, snow and 20 below. I look forward to the new one lasting as long.

We purchased this Rain Guage as our old one broke. We are very happy with it. We like how the Rain Guage gives us the amount of rain electronically. With our old one, we had to go outside and dump it before the next storm and in the winter it froze and cracked the base.

We are not sure how this one will work in the winter, but we’ll keep you posted. We’ve only had it about a month and so far we’re satisfied. I will also say when we had a lightening/thunder event shortly after we got it, it was beeping regularly until the event ended.

I will update this recommendation when a few more month go by.

It does not use an internet connection, but it’s still a very nice personal weather station with a lightning and rain theme. You will be amazed at how many lightning strikes actually occur in a thunderstorm within a 25 mile radius of your location.

One thing I like is the sensors are separate and easier to replace inexpensively, but that also means more batteries to keep up with. Fortunately the batteries last a long time, and although the instructions do not recommend rechargeable batteries, the sensors seem to run just fine on freshly charged Energizer rechargeables.

You do NOT have to replace the batteries as soon as the low battery warning comes on, you can simply wait until the batteries are too weak to transmit a signal. Another thing I like is there are actually 2 audible alarms for the lightning detector.

One alarm is on the outdoor sensor which beeps on the first 10 strikes and then switches to mute afterwards. The indoor alarm on the display beeps on every strike, but you can turn it off manually if desired.

The display keeps a record of strikes and shows the most recent calculated distance. The rain gauge comes already calibrated. All you have to do is install it on a flat open surface. If the weather station detects too much rainfall too quickly, then the display also features a visual Flood Warning Condition alarm.

The 12-24 hour Future Forecast feature seems to be relatively accurate. In fact sometimes it’s more accurate than common weather apps. It still misses the mark occasionally, which is no different than anybody else’s prediction.

Temperature seems to agree with most other sources within 2 degrees of ambient temp. Humidity, Dew Point and Barometric Pressure varies according to exact location, but are usually in the same zone of agreement with other sources too.

I have one DISLIKE. When batteries die in either sensor you would think replacing the batteries would resume normal communication with the display. Turns out it’s not quite that simple. You have to toggle the channel switch on the back of the display to reestablish communication.

Doing this causes the Today’s sensor history to reset to zero. Sad face there, but not a deal breaker. It resets anyway automatically every day at midnight. One other thing. if you don’t have a shady area to hang the Temp/Humidity/Lightning sensor in, then search for “AcuRite Solar Radiation Shield”.

It does help to reduce heat from direct sunlight exposure and give a more accurate reading. A shady area is always the better option, but not everybody has access to continuous shade.

This was a gift and so far so good. Recipient was pleased with the functionality. This device does have a learning time period and we have just gotten beyond that. Seems to be accurate

I owned the rgr126 an loved it for many years an it finally quit working so I purchased the replacement the rgr126N, I am disappointed with it compared to the rgr126 because it doesnt have the feature of a indoor temperature and isnt comparable with the old base unit from the rhr126.

A real bummer indeed.

I like the information that this product gives. However, this purchase was to replace an existing one that quit functioning. I was unable to find where I could purchase replacement parts forceing me to buy another complete unit.

Seems to be of good quality, but haven’t had any rain yet. Accuracy seems in line with other thermometers I have so looking forward to it lasting a long time (I hope).

Easy to install, easy to read, can wash in dishwasher,, but don’t leave water in when it is freezing. The base holding eventually falls apart, after a few/several years. But overall like it quite well, on 3rd in 15 yrs.

I like having local weather information instantly–this rain gauge is one tool that helps in this area. You can glance at it and find out how much rain is falling, how much has been received, etc. easily.

I cannot set this guage. Instructions are very difficult to follow. I believe it to be a good product if I could get set up.

It seems to me that when tilting the bucket does not empty completely.Is it important for precision? I don’t know.

There is, due to all the features in this weather station, a rather steep learning curve if you want to take advantage of them all. The basic stuff works right out of the box. Other feature takes a little setup.

For example, setting the right wind direction requires a specific type of location that is level with the unit facing True North. For that one needs a compass app or the magnetic version and away from any object that would distort the wind’s direction.

I also found the several setup buttons to be very touch sensitive. Things can get a little crazy simply by touching parts of the face before you have studied where each is and what each does. All in all it’s a good unit and a good value.

One issue, not the unit’s problem. I kept picking up a sensor that I could not identify. It was interfering with my indoor readout. Changing the ID code from A to C fixed that.

Nice, with one superior flaw and that was the fact that the “Lightning Alarm Sound” CanNOT be disabled permanently. The first night that we had it (in December) this Alarm awakened us at 3:40 am because there were three lightning strikes 9 miles away, pretty cool during waking hours but we like to enjoy a full uninterrupted 6-8 hours of sleep each night & this thing was just way too annoying & inconvenient.

I even contacted Acurite support but they were of No help. Apparently, you can disable the lightning alarm sound for just “hours” at a time but then you have to constantly mess around redoing it to disable the sound.

It has been returned.
