20 Best Wireless Smoker Thermometer (2022 Updated)

This is a well designed and thought out remote meat cooking thermometer. I will not barbecue poultry again without it! Got this to ensure the Xmas turkey was properly cooked. But I tried it out on whole chickens first cooked just right.

Wish Id had this years ago. It works via Bluetooth from the heart of my kettle style bbq, with the lid down-Almost a faraday cage! Yes, reallythe box kept near to the bbq acts as a repeater and I can see whats going on- inner meat cooking temp and ambient bbq temperature itself around my house.

Further if I use it on Wi-Fi. Brilliant. Expensive? Yes but so was the turkey. And so is my health. Absolute BBQ essential. Will be using to perfect oven roasts shortly. I am Richard Phillips. This is my own review and I dont take kindly to inducements to change my opinion.

This review given a fortnight after purchasing the MEATER.

I purchased the Meater + from Amazon and have use it 8 times. It no longer works and yes it is charged. Very disappointed in the quality of this product. From day one I could not move my phone more than 5′ away from the probe in my grill which is 160′ less than they claim it should work.

The probe also kept reading the ambient temperature at over 500 degrees when the ambient temperature was less than 400 degrees. The probe also read the internal temps much lower than the other thermometers I used to double check the Meater.

I could never trust the temps given from the Meater. I am avid griller and was excited at the possibilities of this product. I am disappointed that I wasted over $100 on this product. Save your money and spend it elsewhere.

This product does not work.

Would give the Block 5 stars based on easy setup, nice app, and the first few cooks. Worked as advertised and was very impressed. Since the first few cooks it’s been a 1 star product. Each time I turn the block on I never know how many probes if any will connect, but it’s never all 4.

I’ve cleaned the probes as instructed, made sure they are seated and charged, and tried multiple times to re-pair the probes but no luck. It’s a great concept that needs work to be reliable. I hope MEATER gets there.

In the meantime I have my trusty ThermoPro I use when not enough MEATER probes connect. I’m mostly using my ThermoPro….

Wow, my husband loved his gift. Exactly what I thought it would be and more. Truly impressed by this device and the way it works. Not sure why my husband wanted it as he cooks perfect meat every time but he said he wanted to take the guessing game out while waiting and it certainly did that! Highly recommend for those BBQ.

It is a quality toy comparable to what is available in stores. It was about $2 cheaper than what I could have paid at brick and mortar stores.

I’ve had my MeatStick thermometers since last summer. What I can tell you is that this thermometer is the last one I’ll ever use. I have gone through a lot of thermometers in the past. The wires that connect to the probes are an absolute pain in the ***! Oh and did I also mention the extremely short lifespan of most of these wired thermometers?! I have a bag full of thermometers I don’t use anymore, because they all broke, and quit working, and always at the wrong time.

I understand the MeatStick is a little expensive but compared to the money I’ve thrown away on the ones that don’t work anymore, the purchase price is a drop in the bucket. I do recommend getting the Wi-Fi Bridge for sure.

The original MeatStick’s keep track of the internal temperature as well as the ambient temperature. The new Mini MeatStick also keeps track of the internal temperature, but does not have an ambient temperature.

So if I’m doing a cook that requires two thermometers, the Original MeatStick goes in first because of the ambient temperature, then I add a New Mini just to make sure it’s the same internal temp throughout.

I’ve had some communication back and forth with The MeatStick’s service department, no big deal just some questions. They were so helpful. Making sure all of my questions were answered and that I’m very happy with my MeatStick.

If you’re looking for a thermometer, look no further than the MeatStick, you won’t be disappointed.

The concept of this probe system was exactly what I was looking for. The problem is the complexity to get it working. As a new owner I was expecting more product support since it’s anything but plug and play.

It took over an hour to get 4 probes connected and my meat on the smoker. Even after all that time I was not able to get the probes to run through the wifi setup. I could only get them to work via bluetooth.

That was the biggest disappointment after spending $500. Running a close second was the ambient temperature readings. I was really excited to be able to capture the ambient temps from all areas inside the smoker.

However the readings were no where close to the actual temperatures. running 50+ degrees low. Definitely not something that I would trust. I’m going to give it a couple more tries with future cooks and hopefully will figure out the trick to get them to connect to the wifi bridge instead of just bluetooth so I can monitor my smoker from afar but right now I’m less than impressed by this product given the amount of money invested.

I was hopeful it would blow away my FireBoard system as I was really looking forward to a truly wireless option.

I’ve been using The MeatStick for about two years now and I love it. It is my go to meat probe whether I’m at home smoking a chicken for the family or out at the beach grilling up a tri-tip for friends.

Their was a small learning curve when I first got the MeatStick but soon after I just loved the ease of use. I had a hiccup with one probe and was assisted quickly with a replacement after some troubleshooting tech support, a few pics to customer services, I was sent a replacement probe and I was back in business.

I currently own 4 probes which includes the two of the 2020 red version, a mini and the new grey version MeatStick. I must say, I use the mini the most now, but the others are perfect for my smoking needs because of the ambient temp, which alerted me when my pellet grill flamed out and when my barrel smoker needed a little more fuel.

I strongly recommend this product, due to its performance and I had a great experience with their customer service. For all of you that need to step away to run an errand, the wifi extender is awesome! I was miles away at target running an errand and I knew where my temps where at, so cool! Happy grilling all!.

Mine is fitted neatly in the Spirit ll, and is a real asset when BBQing joints or whole chickens. Very easy to link to the iPhone and you can choose from set menus whether you want it to measure the temperature in beef, lamb, pork, chicken etc and whether you want them well done, medium, medium rare etc.

When it reaches the required temperature your phone bleeps to let you know it’s ready. In fact it bleeps before that, to tell you it’s almost ready and then again when it’s ready. And you can view the temperature throughout the process, watching rise.

Or you can set a temperature, so for example 75 degrees C for chicken. I always double check with the hand held Weber thermometer to ensure the temperature is reached, especially with poultry but its always spot on.

It’s expensive, but not for the BBQer who only does the sausage & burger thing, its then a waste of money, being too advanced. But if your more advanced cooking poultry and whole joints then it’s a ‘must have’.

I have been using the iGrill system for about 6 months. I am very happy with it. It took me about 10mins to install on my Spirit ii and I had no problems downloading the app. I have used it to cook steaks to perfection and for longer cooking such as roasts.

My roast lamb and pork have been perfect. It is especially handy when cooking for a family and the size of the steaks differ and all are slightly differrent cooking times. I like the fact that the app will save your cooking event and you can repeat the desired cook doneness next time.

As some others have said the app does disconnect if you walk to far away but I have had no problems reconnecting when back in range. I have a tablet that I keep in the kitchen and I now use this for my iGrill cooking instead of my phone.

I leave it on the kitchen counter and check every so often when I walk past. Highly recomment this product. If in doubt there are plenty of youtube videos to watch before you buy.

Received this product when I purchased a new Weber Genesis ii grill, as a promotion to buy the grill from the BBQ Guys. After installation and pairing with my Google Pixel 6 the device kept coming unpaired within a matter of minutes when I was right next to the unit.

Called Weber customer service and was talked through a number of trouble shooting routines, none of which worked. Weber agreed to send a new unit which delivered the same disappointing results. So unless you have a Bluetooth device that is completely compatible, don’t expect any usefulness from this unit as I never got to use it once!.

This thermometer is great in terms of features. I bought it due to phone app integration and 4 probes, and the probes and physical unit seem to work great. I didn’t like the idea of strapping something to me to view something as simple as temp data when I’ve got a fully capable phone at all times.

Whelp, I’ve used it for 3 half-day pork shoulder smokes and each one was the same. The app is EXTREMELY poorly implemented for my Andriod Samsung Note 9. I’m hopeful that it will be updated and fixed, as again the physical unit seems to work great, but I will not hold my breath.

-The unit becomes disconnected constantly. I can remain seated 5 feet away, not using other bluetooth devices, line of site to the unit, and it will randomly disconnect. I saw that reported by other reviewers, and I wrote those complaints off thinking they hadn’t checked for background usage permissions and things of that nature.

Nothing makes a difference, it just disconnects whenever it pleases. -The app crashes pretty often. One of the smokes, if I turned my phone landscape while the app was open it crashed. I haven’t gotten through any cook without a few crashes.

-The app doesn’t actually LOG any of the temperature data. So when it crashes, or you become disconnected, kiss that data goodbye. I thought it would be fun to graph a bunch of smokes, record the ones we liked best with recipe/weight and look at statistics, see at what the cook looked like charted out on the best ones.

Its impossible, I’m lucky to ever see more than 30 minutes of data, even when I don’t leave the grill area. -The alerts would be great, if the unit stayed connected. The first time I thought I’d cut my little yard, but I constantly got bombarded with disconnect alerts.

A few times it looked like it was connected, even showing the bluetooth symbol on the unit, but the temps weren’t updating on the app. -You can’t even view all 4 temperatures without scrolling, you can see it in the pictures in this listing.

Come on guys, how terrible is that UI design! Can you imagine if on the physical unit you had put 3 temps on the front of the physical unit and one on the back? My screen is 6. 4″, surely I can view 4 temperatures.

And if you try to view the graphed data, what little you managed to capture prior to the last disconnect, the chart flashes at you as it receives data. So again, this is a SOFTWARE problem. They have a poorly coded and designed application, for what is likely a well functioning device.

My $10 no-name bluetooth headphones don’t disconnect. It can be fixed. If I could go back, I would have purchased something else, and I would not recommend this device to anyone else unless the app is fixed.

I’m still surprised these devices are bluetooth instead of wifi. Put it on my network, along with all my other smart devices, and let me communicate from any device I choose to pull the app up on at that moment.

Make the app cloud based with storage, make people pay subscription fees to keep more than X of data and access recipes or reviews on charcoal or discounts or whatever. I don’t care. Just make this thing functional so I don’t have to throw it away because I can’t rely on it.

**edit October 2020**The app has been updated and I’ve changed my review to 4 stars. No more crashes when I rotate my phone, and it retains its graph history now. Thank you devs for the fixes!I’ll add to the pile of reviews citing the terrible Android app.

But first, the hardware:The unit itself is actually great. Battery life is excellent, the display is easy to read (although the viewing angle is pretty narrow). Having 4 probes is great and allows flexibility to monitor multiple food items and/or a couple of different regions of the grill surface.

I accidentally left it out after my previous cook and it got rained on for an afternoon. Fortunately it survived without any issues. I don’t think I’d take a bath with it or anything, but it appears to be water “resistant”.

One problem with the probes is that they are so long that it is a bit of a challenge to arrange them on the grill surface so they don’t interfere with the lid closing. And the 2 brackets used to attach them between the grill grates aren’t designed properly, so the probes only fit loosely in the brackets and tend to slip out even under the weight of the cord.

So now, the app:Yeah, the app is still hot garbage as of this writing (July 2020). I haven’t had bluetooth disconnect issues as mentioned in so many reviews, so that’s good. But on my phone (LG V35 ThinQ) the app crashes constantly.

One trigger is to simply rotate my phone. Immediate crash as the display rotates. And it has found several other opportunities to crash without any provocation. When the app crashes, it loses all historical data so the handy graphs all reset, which pretty much renders them useless.

The high and low temps are a great feature, but it is very fiddly to set them precisely. The internal temp can only be set to some presets for the various meat types (med rare, med, med well, etc). That’s good, except for things like pork shoulder where the target temp is much higher than any of the presets.

The app has potential, and I can only hope that the developers are still working towards perfecting it. As it stands now, it’s too buggy to be relied upon. And since the app is a lot of the appeal of this model, I’ve gotta knock off stars for the poor performance of the app even though the thermometer itself is solid.

TLDR; Solid Thermometer, would recommend. Detailed review below. Tip:Make sure you change your app permissions to allow the ThermoPro app to run in background, and make sure if you are in the habit of killing all of your apps you don’t kill the ThermoPro app while cooking.

My Review:One cook so far, a turkey as you can see in my pictures, and it was for my future in laws, so this was a make or brake for me with this thermometer. So far I am very happy. Thermometer is accurate, 4 probes allowed me to monitor the front and back on my smoker, and the breast and thigh individually.

Adding custom profiles is super easy and is something that I didnt see exclusively advertised, since I was traveling with this turkey I wanted to be able to monitor the cook, the smoker, and the temp range while wrapped in the cooler to make sure I stayed safe on temps while driving.

I was able to do all of that without issue. The cord keepers are fantastic. If you are like me and would forget your thermometer outside after cooking because you passed out in a food coma, get the separate case, it makes you want to put it up.

Negatives so far:The port for the black probe on my main unit seems to be a bit loose and was getting wild “temp swings” until I settled it in and quit moving it. Not a big issue, but I was slightly disappointed.

My only other real complaint is that if you find a dead spot in your house, which I did in my recliner on the other side of the wall from the fridge, you lose your cook data when the app disconnects.

I would love to see this changed in the app. Adding a feature like “This Cook” that stored your temp data until you manually clear it regardless of app disconnect would be awesome. The idea I see is not something that is stored all the time regardless of app connectivity but just storing while you are connected, its something that could be changed in the app without changing the hardware.

I bought one for my dad for Father’s Day and it failed when he used it at thanksgiving. I took it back to the store from where I purchased it and exchanged it. He then tried it out at Easter and it failed.

now Ill have to look for the receipt in order to take it back to exchange it nor do I want to take it back to the store. I was hoping that I could exchange it directly with the company but they’re not want to replace it with out the receipt.

this item cost me $70 and is the second one I’ve bought. if you stand behind you produce then you should’ve replaced it. But now I want my money back. terrible product and they will not stand behind they’re product.

I was lucky enough to be given the Grilleye Bluetooth Thermometer to do a review so here it is; first impressions right out of the box is that it is a very well built thermometer, it is very sturdy with a very simple to use design.

Just a thought is maybe they could add little rubber grommets for the jack plug sockets so you can seal it from the weather when not all the sockets are being used. A massive bonus for me is that it can take up to 6 probes which make’s life a lot easier, saves on money and having to deal with multiple devices all at once.

The Grilleye Bluetooth Thermometer comes with 2 probes in the box and 2 probe holders for the smoker/grill. The probes them self are very well built and they are also the only probes that are FDA approved due to being 100% stainless steel with no plastic parts in the probes what so ever however on the flip side to this is that this also makes them non water proof so can only be wiped clean and not submerged in water however saying that i do not know of any probe currently on the market that you can completely submerge in water.

It would be a very good idea if they can make the jack plugs colour coded to the colour of the probe to make it easier to identify once you have passed them through the smoker or barbeque. Once you have paired the device with your phone or tab you then have access to a pre-programed menu with lots of options and with pre-set temperatures for smoking to grilling.

The programme also has options with pre-set temperatures for many different meats and it is all very easy to use. You have the option to set your own temperatures for meats and smoker/grill temperatures.

The thermometer will trigger an audible alarm on your bluetooth device when the desired temperature of your meat is reached and will also set off an audible alarm for the smoker/grill probe if the temperature runs too high or too low.

Again it has pre-set options for this or you can easily adjust it to your own choice of high and low temperatures which is very easy to do and can also be saved for later use. For my first cook using the Grilleye Bluetooth Thermometer I decided to do a pork shoulder on my smoker to really give it a good test.

I had it smoking for 14 hours on my smoker in total and the Grilleye performed very well. I was very impressed with the Grilleye Bluetooth Thermometer but have just three suggestions; 1. The bluetooth connectivity needs to be a little better as it was prone to loosing signal.

I recall this actually happened several times after talking with Grilleye it appears this is most probably caused by outside interference; maybe do a Wi-Fi version and this would definitely be something I would love to buy 2.

Once you have cancelled an alarm on the app it should stay cancelled until the alarm needs to sound again for another reason. For example the alarm sounds when your smoker/grill drops below the pre-set temperature so you cancel that alarm and by the time you get to your smoker/grill to fix the problem the alarm is sounding again for the same reason.

It would be a lot better if the alarm did not go off again until it needs to. 3. I could not find a way of turning down the audible alarm. I turned down every setting on my tab and yet the alarm from grill eye remained at the same level so a volume control would be a good feature to add.

There is one feature that I loved and that’s the graph of the probes showing a real time scale of your cooks, you can really see where temperatures have raised and dropped throughout the entire cook which can make life easier in the long term by knowing exactly when you may need to top up with charcoal or at what temperatures you need to start closing up vents etc.

You also get an alarm log which again is useful as it is another way you can log what has happened and when. The battery life is very good, which is a bonus especially compared to my other thermometers which eat batteries like the guests at my barbeques eat ribs! Would I recommend this product? Absolutely and I would definitely purchase one if I were to loose mine.

The fact it takes up to 6 probes is a massive bonus for me as before I had the Grilleye I had to carry around 2 receiver units and have two main units at my smoker which is a major pain in the back side.

If they sort out the little niggles i picked up on then this will be by far the best bluetooth thermometer on the market. At the moment it is definitely up there with the rest. of em but a little refining and it could be so much better than the rest of them.

Used this grilling thermometer while smoking a turkey breast and pork roast yesterday. This was the best investment since we bought our egg ceramic cooker. The app on the phone monitors meat internal temp and an alarm goes off when it is at you pre-set temp.

You can check it any time and the app is extremely easy to use/read. Split screen showed both temps simultaneously, so always knew what was going on. The best deal in grilling accessories ever. HIGHLY RECCOMMEND!.

I’ve been looking around for this type of leave in thermometer and I got lucky on my first one. I’ve made a roast beef so far with this and came out a perfect medium rare. This weekend, I’m gonna try my porchetta recipe awhile using this therm on it.

Honestly if you don’t want your roasts to over cook then do yourself a favor and buy this. It connnects to your phone too. This thing is easy to clean and came with 6 prongs. The holidays are coming up so you know you’re gonna be cooking up to show off to your relatives.

Would only make sense to get this so you don’t overcook your food.

Love that it connects to my phone and lets me track the temperature from inside the house. Love that I can track 4 different items at a time. I bought this for Thanksgiving to insure a perfectly cooked turkey.

Been using it the last couple of weeks in preparation for the big event. It works better than I had hoped. Provides the desired temperature and lets me know when it gets there. Does a great job!.

I have used this for my indoor grill from Ninja. It works perfectly by giving accurate temperature. The grill closes properly since the cable isn’t too thick. The LCD display is very visible even from far and the added Bluetooth functionality is there if someone wants to take advantage of that.

For the price, I think it is a good buy!.

This device works very well. The mobile app, which has terrible reviews for some reason, worked for me just fine! You sick in your thermometer, go to the mobile app, set the meat you’re cooking and wait for the annoyingly loud beep.

No seriously! I was on a phone call with my earbuds in, and the beeping was blasting through my skull. I had to unlock my phone, go to the app, and tell it to stop. Shutting off the thermometer did not work! Caveat EmptorThat little hiccup aside, I like this thermometer.

Granted, it’s the first one I’ve ever owned. I’ve always used the digital sticks you can’t leave in the meat and I guess when things are ready. Having something that tells you right away is very awesome.

My biggest complaint however, is I don’t seem to be able to set my own temperature. What if I just want to stick the thermometer in the grill and have it tell me when I hit a temp? Like I’m about to smoke meats and I need the fire to die down a little before I hit the grill.

Well, I just have to monitor it. What if I want my meat to come off the grill a little early and rest up to the right temp? Doesn’t seem to be a way to do it. So yes, big step up from a stick thermometer, but I’m sure there’s better models out there to be had.

However, for the price and ease of use, I think it’s a good purchase.

This thermometer is amazing. With 4 thermometers you can keep an eye on every type of meat you are cooking and the grill temperature as well. I have a 22 Weber grill and I’ve smoked 3 briskets, a few tri tips and a pork butt using the thermometer.

The app needs a little work I think but it’s easy to set an alarm for a specific temperature or if the temperature goes above or below a specific temperature. You can create your own profiles for temperature.

The alarm on the device itself is pretty loud. i have to mute it at night when smoking. It also has a backlight on the device itself if you don’t have access to the app. The only knock I have on the app is that you cannot multi-task.

If you switch to another app for me it losed connection sometimes and the temperature graph gets restarted on when you got reconnected. Wish there was a way to save your history and graphs. Overall great product and would recommend to anyone.

I had read good reviews so I gave this a try. Today I smoked 2-6lb whole chickens and a 3 lb pork tenderloin. Used hickory pellets (whole tube lasts approx 4. 5 hrs). Seasoned with olive oil and 4 Rivers All Purpose rub.

Pork loin had mustard for the binder and 4 Rivers All Purpose rub (Florida based company). The hickory pellets in the tube made the difference. 5. 5-6 hrs later the chicken was super moist and had the perfect smokiness flavor which I had not been able to acquire from my Master-built Sportsman smoker previously.

It did a fantastic job for the first time of use and I will sing its praises. I can’t say about its longevity but if it dies definitively be getting another. Happy smoking!!!.

My Pit Boss has 2 probes but I have to run to the smoker to check the temp. With my new Nutrichef Bluetooth probes, I never have to leave the couch. They are very accurate right out of the box and you can name the meats on the app so you know the individual temps and don’t burn anything.

They work!.

Easy setup. Seems to be fairly accurate but I did not calibrate it in boiling water yet. Had both probes near each other in a roast chicken and there is a 10 degree F difference. Not sure if I should believe that.

Will have to do more controlled testing in a cup of boiling water.

Used it for the first time and it was so great being able to set it and forget it. It sends alerts when you’re out of range and when it has hit the desired temperature. A true must for any person that likes to grill.

Told my brother about it and he ordered one for himself.

This is an expensive little device, and it’s not for everybody, so I’ll try to help you decide whether you want or need it in this review. Here’s a little background about me: I’m in my mid to late 30s, and I’ve been cooking in a variety of ways for the last 20+ years.

I got interested in cooking in my teens, and I’ve learned a lot since then. That said, I’m no professional, just a considerably above average home chef. I also love all different types of meat, from red meats (beef and lamb mostly) and pork to poultry and fish/seafood.

In my years of cooking, I went from getting down the basics to trying to fine-tune my craft and just get as good as possible at the things I’d already learned rather than trying to add many new tricks to my repertoire.

One of the ways, I feel that it’s possible to greatly fine tune your cooking is to get the temps/doneness of different things just right. To a point, I feel comfortable cooking different pieces of red meat to the right doneness without a thermometer (the touch test is pretty accurate most of the time), and in general I have enough experience with my different devices to know when a hunk of chicken is done but still moist in the air fryer.

But a thermometer like this can offer an extra level of precision, especially when roasting larger (but perhaps not humongous) items. So, this thing sets up with an app on the phone. The range of the thermometer itself is fairly limited, but if you leave its little thermometer holder nearby, it extends the range significantly.

There are some potential concerns with the app, such as location tracking, so if that bothers you, you may want to steer clear. The app is pretty convenient, though, as it warns you immediately when the meat you’re cooking reaches the desired temp.

The size of the thermometer is good for most food types. If you have a massive turkey or rib roast, you may not get quite the depth you want, so it would make sense to set the desired temp slightly higher than you want the internal temp at the deepest point in the meat, but for most types of steak or hunks of chicken, it could work.

For smaller items, it works fairly well, but you should be aware that for it to function correctly, the entire metal part should be inserted into the meat. I love cooking lamb **** chops, and I’ve struggled to get the metal fully inserted as you can see in the attached images.

Once I figured out an angle that was about right, it worked out, but I couldn’t really get it inserted to hit the furthest point inside, closest to the bone. For medium pieces of meat, it’s fine, and if you’re cooking multiple, you can come up with roughly uniform results if the pieces are similarly thick or you adjust timing for thickness differences.

Ultimately, if you’re doing a pretty good job getting food cooked to the right temps already with either nothing or a non leave-in meat thermometer, you probably don’t need this, but just because you don’t need it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have it.

It might be an extra level of convenience and precision that you’ll appreciate, even if it’s not a total game changer, which is how I’d describe it for myself. If you love cooking but you struggle to get temps right, it could be a game changer.

I did have to wait until ‘grilling season’ (in other words, being warm enough to sit outside with a beer and watch the meat cook). so it took a little longer than expected to get these on the grill. My first test was a 4lb tri-tip, which is a cut that I’ve smoked on my Texas-style offset smoker many times and am quite familiar with.

My prior setup was a two-probe one, with one in the meat and one clamped in the smoker just above it. I really liked the concept of having a wireless setup with a single probe capable of measuring both ambient and internal temperature.

It’s just a good design – you get to know the temp right next to the item you’re cooking, so if you have a setup that’s notorious for temp variance like an oil-barrel offset system you’re feeding with seasoned wood, you’ve got some good data to work with.

I started off with the combo probe in the thick/wide end of the tri-tip. The instructions state to insert the probe all the way up to the hilt to get the most accurate readings, which I did. This ran me into my only real issue with this setup, and that was that the ambient temperature was only available on the long probe, which was too long to be placed in the center of my cut without sticking out.

I ended up sticking both long and short probes in so I could have both ambient readings and a reading at the perfect place within the meat. I also set up the app with the “X” base as an extender. This is absolutely great.

I had reception throughout my house, through walls, without a problem at all. The app stays running in the background and keeps a silent notification running so you can access temp readings very easily, and it alarms you when you’re close to your set temp so you have time to get back to your grill and check over things.

All in all, I had a perfectly cooked tri-tip with a lot less guesswork than I normally have. The closer monitoring of interior temperatures was very helpful here, especially due to the natural variations when using split hardwood.

The only thing that would have made the process easier was if there was an outside temp sensor on the Mini probe, because I got a lot of false ‘done’ messages from the big one due to placement. I’d see the Mini being the more useful size, especially for things like tri-tip, chicken, small turkeys, and fish, with the regular size being good for brisket and larger birds.

I really look forward to smoking a brisket with these. I’ll put the short probe in the point and the long one in the flat I think. In summary, these will make a great gift for any backyard barbecuer in your life.

They’re well made, really easy to clean, and long-lasting. Add an external temp sensor to the MiniX and you’ve got a solid 5 stars, all day long. I hope you find this review helpful – if so please let me know!.

We live in the SE and BBQ year round and I recently got the chance to try out the Meat Stick. We use a smoker for BBQ’ing/smoking ribs, brisket, Pork butts and turkey. I’ve tried 4 different remote thermometers with varying degrees of success and frustration.

Most were too confusing to set up or were so inaccurate as to be useless. My initial MeatStick experience: Following the Apps instructions set up was a breeze, taking only a few minutes to finish. I used the Mini on Baby Back ribs and during cooking, compared the App’s temp readouts with that of a ThermaPen instant read thermometer, the temps matched exactly.

Using only the charger and not the Bridge/extender it never lost the WiFi signal. Pork ribs were not listed in the App menu so I chose the Pork **** setting and upped the temp range to the max of 185.

Ribs are best when cooked to 190 and when the internal temp reached 180 the App sent a warning message to remove the Mini as it was close to its max temp of 185! Ribs turned out fine but I should have used the larger/longer MeatStick that has a max temp of 212.

Lesson learned; for meat that must be cooked to 190-200 range [Ribs, Butts, Shoulders and Brisket] use the standard MeatStick and not the mini! Included with the MeatStick in an awesome well designed zippered case that has room for extra probes/sticks, batteries etc.

plus a foam insert with cutouts that fit each piece [probe, charger, bridge] so they’re protected when not in use. Final thoughts: Is it accurate – Yes Is it easy to set up and use – Yes Does it maintain WIFI signal – Sure does Does it remember previous settings/recipes – Yes Is it easy to clean – Yes Should you try it – Definitely Of all the remote thermometers I’ve tried over the years, the MeatStick is hands down the winner in both accuracy and ease of setup and use I’ve found.

I got this as a gift some time ago. Just saw some reviews and thought I should write one. I based my 5 stars on overall performance, results particularly. My final cook has been excellent! Meat is spot on when it comes to temperature at meal time.

Monitoring is easy and can be done at significant distances. I use it both in my Traeger, and wood burning stove, as well as my oven. I like the way it measures ambient temperature because it gives me an indication of how my fire or smoke is burning from afar so I am alerted if adjustments to the burn are necessary.

Meat temperature while cooking is pretty accurate. The time to finish is pretty close but you have to be sure your thermometer is properly placed in the thickest part of the meat and fully inserted. One drawback is that if on an open flame grill the probe may overheat if close to the flame.

Nothing is a substitute for experience and judgement. You have to use this a few times to get a feel for it and be confident in its use but it saves me a lot of trouble and as I said the results have been outstanding.

Bought hoping it would arrive in time for Thanksgiving. Gave it a trial run on steaks the day before and had I believed it we’d have been eating raw steak. Figured I’d done something way wrong but not sure what??? Tried it again on 18 lb turkey the next day.

After it did some initial calibration it estimated it would be done in 1-1/2 hours for what I was figuring would be 4 hrs @ 300. It was interesting watching it as it recalculated throughout the cooking cycle as I tried to get the bird to finish at our meal time.

The ambient temp displayed in the app throughout was 30 or more degrees cooler than temp shown on the treagers displays for whatever that’s worth. Used my current temp probe on the other breast while scratching my head wondering what was going on, the Meater was showing 10 degrees warmer than the TempPro.

For some reason I chose to take it off when the Meater said it was done. Smelled great looked great but when I started to carve it it wasn’t ready. Had to scramble to figure out how I was gonna salvage the meal.

Coulda done without that stress and will be sending it back if I can.

I bought this used it on 2 low temp cooks on my Traeger. It worked fine and I was impressed. I used it on an intermediate temp cook 350 degrees and ambient temp was 50 to 60 degrees off. I contacted the support at Meater only to have an automated message contact me back saying my smoker has different temp zones.

I verified my ambient temperature with calibrated test equipment ( I am an I&C tech ). It was over a week before someone emailed me back with the same explanation. Thank God for the good people at Ace who did a defective exchange.

I Reperformed the 350 degree cook to only have a 3-5 degree difference. I like the product and hope it will continue to work however plan on getting a Meatstick probe before thanksgiving since it works fully submerged in oil.

Again the main reason for the low review is the lack of technical support and poor customer service.

I’ve had this for the better part of 6 months, it was a gift from the misses for Father’s day. The battery on this is awesome. I don’t think I’ve had to recharge it once in all that time. That’s having used it approximately 75-100 hours.

We live in Utah where we get all seasons and all types of weather. This thermometer has held up very well in snow, rain or high heat. The temperature readings seem pretty accurate, I would say within 1-2 degrees at most when compared with a single probe thermometer or when the probes are reading general climate temperature.

My biggest complaint on these is the probes themselves get extremely hot on the handle part. I don’t even know what a good solution would be since the entire probe is aluminum, and has to be encased in high heat environments for long periods of time.

The manufacturer did put a strong warning on the probes but it’s easy to forget when you’re trying to pull hot meat off the grill and you try to quickly pull those little fire pokers out of the way and end up with a mean blister.

It took a few of those experiences but I eventually learned. I always use a hot pad to move the probes now and let them cool outside. Overall would recommend this to friends and family!.

I liked this product very much overall, but will be returning it. It was not good for our needs. We cook chicken (breast or tenderloins), steak tips, and burgers most often. Unfortunately, the probes themselves are too thick and heavy to be supported by these types of cuts.

I found that the probe worked “ok” for a chicken breast, if inserted lengthwise before cooking, but the issue then becomes when flipping the chicken, the probe and attached wire can point down toward the fire.

The other issue is, that because the probes are straight, when having all four in use, it is really difficult to keep the wires away from each other, from going across other meat on the grill etc. I’ve seen many thermometers with a curved probe, which would serve two good purposes.

the curve can easily be repositioned when flipping the meat to keep the cord away from the grill surface and it can also be used to keep the wires up higher to keep the wires from tangling with each other or keep it from resting across other pieces of meat.

Overall, I really liked this product, the app was good, the temperature readings were accurate, but the probes are just too heavy and cumbersome for the types of meat that I cook most often. If shorter lighter probes of only a half inch or so were offered (so it could rest across the top of a steak tip and go straight down into the tip, be removed when the tip is flipped, then reinserted) or probes with a curve, it would be REALLY helpful.

I’ve always seen that ThermPro products were highly recommended by BBQers, so I thought I’d try it out. Especially since this comes with 4 probes and connects to my phone via Bluetooth. The first thing I did is test out all the probes in a glass of ice water.

All 4 probes came up with 38-degrees. I compared that result against a simple pen thermometer I’ve used for years, and it came up with 35. 6-degrees. It’s a bit off of the +- 1. 5-degrees advertised, but not by much.

I wish there was a way of manually calibrating the unit. Other than that, I also wish that it came with a carrying case that would fit everything. There are 8 pieces to this device, and it’d be nice to have a case to hold everything and make it easier to transport.

My final con is that the units used to wind the cables are a bit bulky considering. But I’d rather have them than have to manually wind the cable. Even with these cons, I was able to connect the unit to my phone very quickly via Bluetooth, and I was able to figure out how to set everything on the app without much of a problem.

I’m looking forward to using this for my next smoke.

I bought this item since I didnt have an internal probe. First used it for testing and found that I was losing signal, then figure out I needed the base on the Traeger, after that, this thing has been flawless.

Anyone who gives this bad reviews really doesnt know how to use it. Yes it looses signal on a brisket wrap, I just took it out and reinserted after I wrapped the brisket. come on people, this is not that hard, think before you cook.

I recently bought an Akorn Kamado Kooker, and was advised I could only master it with a reliable remote thermometer. My nephew Chad, also a competition BBQ guy, said the TP-20 was the bomb, so I got one as soon after assembling the Akorn as possible.

Now I’ll be the first one to say that labeling the Akorn Kamado as the gold standard is conditional on one’s ability to achieve temperature equilibrium. I’ve known others who bought and sold their Akorn Kamado in short order when they were not able to achieve said equilibrium.

I had a good advisor and I’m Irish, so I conquered it the second time around. But this review ain’t about Akorns, it’s about the TP-20, but the background is cogent. Successful operation of the Akorn might be possible without the TP-20, but I’d never try it.

Now I’ve got enough experience smoking boston butts that I didn’t really need a remote probe in the meat, but having one measuring internal Akorn temp was the difference between success and failure. On the TP-20, you can click Mode until ‘Oven’ is an option.

I picked that and hung the remote probe through the upper damper first time around and got skewed results, no doubt because the probe tip was touching the inside of the Kooker. I-Tronics includes a right angled stainless steel clip that I didn’t and couldn’t determine its function until I reread the User Manual and found an obscure reference to ‘clipping the probe to the cooking grate.

‘ The clip has holes in both sides that perfectly accommodates the probe above the grate. Second time around I was able to control the internal cooking temperature at +/- 15 degrees of 250 degrees for nine hours, opening the lid only once at the six hour mark to wrap the butts in foil.

I probably made a half dozen upper damper adjustments over the nine hours to thwart temp rises or drops, but the accuracy of the TP-20 allowed me to do that on a timely basis-obviating panic attacks when you’re caught sliding sideways.

I gave the TP-20 5 stars based on ease of use, decipherable operating instructions and pinpoint accuracy. The freaking butts became the tender smoked pulled pork I was accustomed to. The WiFi coverage of 400 feet allowed me free range around the house with the receiver unit.

At $54 plus shipping it’s a bargain IF you want to upgrade your slow smoker to an Akorn Kamado. No slaps at Char-Griller, the Akorn manufacturer, but if you’re serious about your BBQ, you ain’t relying on the thermometer integral to the Kooker.

I can guarantee you the TP-20 delivers, and they give a lifetime replacement warranty on the sensor tips, the most vulnerable aspect of the entire system!.

We grill a lot of fish in the summer, and lamb and beef during the winter. When grilling an expensive cut of meat, a Prime tenderloin for example, preserving the meat quality is imperative. A remote reading thermometer makes possible temperature monitoring while continuing to entertain guests.

Here in Alaska, it’s also often more comfortable to be inside rather than outside. All of these devices measure the temperature at the tip of metal probes, and transmit that temperature information to a receiver via a radio-frequency link.

This allows the user to remotely monitor the temperature at the probe tip. I researched these radio-frequency-based remote reading thermometers to replace a long-time device and chose the ThermoPro TP-20.

After thoroughly reading directions, I inserted the enclosed batteries (very convenient), inserted the two temperature probes, and the sender and receiver established a radio-frequency link, with no need for my assistance.

The two probes showed the same temperature probes provided the same temperature value, a quick check that the device was calibrated. I’ve not owned a dual probe remote thermometer before, but I used them both as I monitored the two ends of a 6-pound tenderloin.

My family has rare-meat lovers and well-done lovers, and being able to monitor the thin and thick ends of the tenderloin allowed me to adjust the various heat sources on a gas grill. I usually use a charcoal grill and don’t have the ability to control the heating to this degree, but it’s still a useful piece of information.

Of course I log the data, so the temperature differential will also be interesting to log. When planning a meal, it’s useful to know that a 6-pound tenderloin, cooked on gas, with the meat at this temperature and outside temperature at that value, will require 1:30 to cook.

The manufacturer claims that the sender and receiver will communicate over a 300-ft maximum distance, a distance that I did not measure, but it certainly worked well through a 120-foot distance and through heavy plaster walls.

I am very impressed with that performance. The receiver, the controller of the system, has pre-sets for FDA-approved cooking temperatures for a wide range of likely-to-be-grilled foods. Although I didn’t use the feature, the device also allows one to set other temperatures, instead.

One can change from Fahrenheit to Celsius degrees, as well as access a timer and other features. Read the directions!Directions are easy to follow. The device was well-packaged, and included everything as advertised.

It’s easy to use and provides accurate temperature information. My first use was for an almost-two-hour grilling of a tenderloin cooked over gas. I enthusiastically recommend this device.

I purchased the ThermoPro TP20 primarily to use when smoking meat/poultry in my masterbuilt gas smoker. I used to use a combination of an iGrill bluetooth thermometer that would send the smoker box temperature reading to my smart phone along with a standard corded digital thermometer to check the meat temperature.

Using the iGrill was okay, but I would always get bluetooth dropouts and have to reconnect and stuff. Plus I had to physically go out to my smoker to check the meat temperature. I could have purchased another iGrill probe and kept with the smartphone connection, but I was sick of disconnects – oh, and all the while my smartphone battery is draining and I can’t really roam too far away.

So I decided to look for an alternative and found the ThermoPro TP20. I used the ThermoPro for the first time to smoke a whole turkey for Thanksgiving 2018. The ThermoPro worked flawlessly. Both the probes report the temperatures from the base station to the remote station.

Also both of the temperature probes are a good size, really substantial compared to other probes I have used. I was able to program max temp thresholds and received alerts when for instance the smoker box temperature raised too high.

I could leave the remote station in the kitchen and not worry about having my smartphone tied up with this nonsense. There were no disconnects between the probes and the base or remote stations at all.

I did not test how far I could wander with the remote station though – all I know is that it performed much better than the iGrill bluetooth connection within the same vicinity. And that vicinity was really as far as I needed it to go – I can keep it in the kitchen, it works, no disconnects, I’m good.

I was highly impressed by this device and glad I didn’t need to tie up my smartphone anymore – and now I could use my smartphone’s bluetooth connection to connect to a portable speaker for some music rather than temperature readings.

I recommend this to anyone who is interested in monitoring the temperature of 2 items at one time (i. e. : maybe two meats, or maybe just one meat and your grill/smoker box temperature). I like the rubberized skin that the devices are covered with – they are bright orange so I can find the remote station quickly and will protect the devices from minor drops.

This is easily a 5 star product. It was easy to set up and use and provides nice convenience so you don’t have to hover around your grill/smoker all day.

Very pleased to have purchased this thermometer. It allows me to monitor the temperature inside the bread I am baking. 1. I was able to use it for the first time without reading the instruction. It is a two piece item.

One with wired probe to push inside the dough. The other with LED screen that display the temperature and other information. 2. It is accurate. It displayed 211 (should be 212 exactly) if putting the probe in to boiling water.

3. The transmission distance is adequate. I can monitor the food temperature in any room on the same floor with the kitchen. 4. The old style cellphone like piece is easy to read and understand. You just need to press the “Mode” button.

It has timer mode with remind you at set time period; it has cooking monitor mode that set off alarm when probe temperature reaches the temperature you set. There is one feature I wish it had. I hope the designer will add a beep to the gadget when it is being turned on or off.

It is difficult to know if the phone charger-like piece is turned on or off. The only way to know for sure is to watch if there is a intermittent blink every 10 seconds.

It is EXTREMELY competitively priced on amazon for what you get, though. My customer support interactions with this manufacturer have been really good on multiple models, and I appreciate that. I was just offered an unsolicited lifetime warranty on the probe INCLUDING wear and tear.

It was unconditional and did not require me to write this review. It did, however, motivate me to go ahead and write a solid review since I have used one for at least 3 years now and have given another as a gift.

You can get higher end sets from another manufacturer, but It is going to cost you at least 3 times as much for a one probe system. This one is great for when I want to quick cook and does not want to pull out my bigger dual probe system.

A couple of tips and minor workarounds:-Sometimes, when you boot up the remote first it will not sync with the probe. Turn the remote off, start the flashing of the base using the side button, and turn the remote back on.

within 30 seconds this syncs my probe every time. -If you are concerned about probe accuracy, do the ice bath and boil tests. Quick directions: boil water to rapid roll and place tip of probe fully under liquid.

It should approach 212F or 100C. I can usually get it about 1-2 degrees of that and this is the extreme high end; for low side, place crushed ice in a glass cup/container and just a little cold water (as little as you can manage and still allow the probe to slip within the ice).

let sit for a few minutes for water. This bath does not normally get to OC or 32F no matter how good your thermometer is but it should come close. I can get within 2 degrees with this, and that isprobably pretty close to real temp.

-Avoid kinking the probe wire, as it can shorten the life of the probe. You can pinch the wires in a lid and usually it will not damage the probe but It is a risk I does not take. Wires can be routed through vents if away from the heat source or you can drill a small hole in the wall (I do this in my grill just below where the grate sits but not in my cabinet smoker.

I use the exit vent for the cabinet smoker. These probe tips are universally sound for pretty much any temperature monitoring system you use. Bottom line: I am pretty centrist on ratings (does not like to give too low unless I absolutely hate it and does not give too high unless I am very impressed), but this one for the price is excellent.

This is built very well. I like LOUD alarms and timers. I have several other probe/timers and this is by far, my favorite. Some aren’t loud enough, some aren’t accurate, some are really hard to operate, some are not wireless or portable and some are just junk.

My only criticism is that I would have liked it to be a group of 2-5 beeps, instead of a pleasantly loud, steady, single beep. Other than that, it’s everything I’ve wanted in a wireless thermo-probe/timer.

The probes are reliable and accurate. The range over Bluetooth is excellent. I will occasionally get random disconnects. I believe this to be more of a software issue than hardware. I say this because the app does not run as a service.

Consequently the Android OS kills the app unless it’s running in the foreground with the screen on. As soon as the screen is off the app stops recording data from the probes and you will lose the alarm functionality.

This product could be improved if the unit itself had memory to store the probe graphs so that if your phone disconnects the graphs from the unit fan be restored after a disconnect / after the app closes itself when Android OS is in sleep mode.

Alternatively, the software needs to run as a service so that android doesn’t kill it off to free up resources.

There are some very small changes that could be made to this product to elevate it to a 4 or 5 star product. As it stands it is a solid 3 stars. Honestly the price is the major redeeming factor here.

I will break down the specific pros and cons. For example: Press F/C button to toggle between Fahrenheit/Celsius. ok got that but it is also the Alert button? They obviously can label buttons on two rows with a divider bar (like Start/Stop button) so why not have F/C // Alert on the button? Also Mode/Light button is the enter or confirm button to enter your target temp?? Why even have a light button? Make it Mode / Confirm or Enter*There are no UP/DOWN arrows; if you overshoot your upper range on food temp or BBQ temp you have to cycle through 575 degrees and back to 0 and then count up again.

While it does cycle 10 degrees a second when you long press that is still a massive oversight in design. Also when you do hit your target temp you better be lightning quick on hitting Mode/Light to confirm your desired temperature or it will just reset to the last confirmed temp and you will have to do the cycle all over again.

Seriously. who came up with that programming? If I long press a button to set the temp, it should just accept the current temp after that short period of inactivity. *Backlight button is pointless, if I have to grab the main unit to hit the light button I can most certainly read what the temp is.

There shouldn’t be a light button at all, just make the backlight turn on briefly for ANY button press. The light should do something useful like flash when target temp is reached or stay on for 5-10 seconds for every 10 degrees closer the food temperature gets to target temp.

*Probes are pretty dang short, another foot would have been much appreciated*There is no indication on the unit which plug port is for Probe 1 and Probe 2 (with it facing you probe 1 is on the right, 2 on the left FYI).

*The rubber bumper is pretty loose like a cheap cell-phone case (the grey portion in the picture), however, without the bumper the unit would feel/look extremely cheap so I am glad for it. *There should be a magnet on each of the clips for the transmitter and receiver.

I know I am grasping now but the devil is in the details on products like this. Overall I will keep the product because it worked and I don’t want to spend $75-$80 for a similar product. I just hope Therm Pro reads these reviews to implement product changes**Model Number TP-08 tested**.

These are great bbq thermometers for the price. Seem to be accurate on temperature comparing it with others, the range is good to start with. Im on my second one of these thermometers after about 7+ bbq seasons.

My first one still works but the range between units is horrible it will loose connection at less than 30 feet, the first 3 or so years it was great easily 300 feet but over time it got less and less to where now its almost useless.

My last bbq session it lost connection several times and wasnt more than 15 feet from the main unit. But as I said for the price its great and it has lasted a descent amount of time considering the unit will sit out in the direct sunlight baking for hours and keep working for years.

I cant see the more expensive thermoworks brand ones lasting much if any longer in those conditions, yet they are twice to 4x the price. Overall Im very pleased with this thermometer and recommend it to anyone needing a good bbq thermometer at an affordable price.

These thermometers are the best! I have 2 sets, my first set is 7-8 years old, I used the heck out of it, super accurate and reads temps quick, units still perform flawlessly, even the probes still work great! I do the boiling water test on all my gauges, these Mavericks hit 212 degrees every time! Even the batteries last for years! I bought 2 expensive Tel Tru dial gauges for my offset smoker, they are very slow to temp and not as accurate as the Maverick, I took them out and only rely on my Mavericks now, and I recommend them to all my friends and inlaws! My original set in the pic has a nice smoke ring!.

Haven’t used it yet but first impression is why are there tiny screws on back of transmitter??? Already lost one putting batteries in. Could have made a slide and snap like the receiver. 2nd it looks to be made by Maverick even though it says Remington.

Not a bad thing just stating what was on the back product label. 3rd, I wish the min temp went higher than what it does on the BBQ probe. I don’t like to let mine dip below 200 but max is like 176. Other than that I will see how it works.

It’s cost effective enough and at worst, I can always just use it as a meat probe without opening the smoker.

Used my spankin new Smoke Alarm Thermometer yesterday for the 4th of July. I smoked a tri tip like you would a brisket. The Smoke is so simple to understand and use that I had no issue whatsoever. I did discover that my electric smoker gets about 27 degrees hotter than the set temp which explains some of the surprises I’ve had cooking various protein.

The Smoke said 201 and on checking with the Thermapen, 201 was exactly the reading. Love it and would recommend for anyone cooking to temp. And if you haven’t tried tri tip low and slow – I highly recommend that too!.

This thing is great. Nice display, mounting magnets are strong, and the additional display is very useful. I got the orange one, and it’s a really nice color. I still do a double check with a thermapen, or thermo pop before pulling meat off the heat.

The probes are a different story. The only complaint is the spaghetti it turns in to when using all 4. They crimp easy, and aren’t waterproof. At this price I feel that the silicone organizers for the probes should be included.

First off there was some operator error on my part. On my first cook I was not getting the bellows to work. I called the hot line and a very patient person answered my call for help. He patiently lead me through the trouble shoot and he help me find that I had the fan plugged in to the wrong plug on the smoke X4.

After that the cook went off without a hitch and has worked fantastic ever since.
