20 Best Wood Burning Furnace (2022 Updated)

We have had this stove a little over one year and it had nothing but trouble with it. It never did burn pellets correctly. The control board failed and US stove sent me a replacement. From that point on the pellets burn much better.

The next issue was an auger jam. Due to how this stove is constructed it is very difficult to clear an auger jam as you have to remove the entire top of the stove and all the upper metal trim work which is the worst part of the job.

This is the same stove as the 6041 except it has been retrofitted to work as an insert and that’s where the problems begin. The retrofit design is very poor. On the freestanding 6041 stove you can lift the hopper lid and access the auger easily without the necessity of removing the top.

Also the hopper lid has been moved forward from the position on the 6041 free-standing stove. This makes loading the pellets more difficult as you have to take your hand and push them into the hopper which is not necessary on the 6041 free-standing stove.

I have burned less than 40 bags of pellets in the stove and now the room ventilation fan is going out. Sounds like a bearing failure and now it’s out of warranty. Do not buy this stove poorly-built, awful execution of retrofitting as an insert.

Run away.

So I bought this a couple months ago and immediately we had a loud high pitch whistling when it would blow heat into the room. Well after many calls and messing with the darn thing, we figured it out.

We literally has to take a Sawzaw and cut “bridges” between each hole where the heat blows out. It’s an air movement problem. Just cut the bridges and it was 95% better! At full blast there is barely a whistle! If you wanted to cut all the holes out, by all means go for it but we just cut till it sounded better.

Other than that it’s perfect! We love our pellet stove! The reason I am writing this review is to inform because I was spending hours looking up this issue with no answers online so I am really hoping this helps!.

I bought this a month ago and used it a few times. Works great. Only problem is anything above the 1st setting it whistles which is no big deal because I can get a replacement from the us stove company.

The only major issue is the us stove customer service. I’ve sent my receipt from buying the stove 6 times, I repeat, SIX times and they keep calling me saying they aren’t getting my email. Well I ended up calling back and a different lady answers and she has no records of me calling or requesting a part.

Something is going on with customer service and I’m not liking this. Once the temperature outside gets cold enough I’ll have to deal with the whistling until I get the part but it is just ridiculous of how hard it is to do so! Overall the pellet stove it great!.

I was looking for a wood stove with a glass door. I’d been using wood heaters for years, and while they were great for keeping the house warm, but I really wanted to be able to see the fire. So when I came across this stove online, I knew it was perfect.

I was a little hesitant to purchase the Drolet Escape 1800 wood stove, but after reading the great reviews I decided to go for it. I’m so glad I did! It is an airtight stove, so you have to be sure to get the fire going well before you close the door.

It does have an air intake rod below the door to let more air in while you’re getting things going. The wood ash drawer under the firebox is a big plus too. You can easily push the ashes down there by lifting a small cast metal door up, at the front of the firebox.

This is a quality stove that has really heated up my home this winter. The even heat it gives off is perfect for keeping my home warm all winter long. The best part is that it’s so easy to use, and it comes crated for shipping so there’s no worry about damage.

I would definitely recommend Drolet stove to anyone looking for a quality wood stove.

I’m really happy with my Drolet Escape 1800 Wood stove. I’ve been using it all winter, and it’s been great. It was easy to set up, and the reviews on different websites were all very positive. It has been a great addition to my home, and it really helps to heat the living room up quickly.

The wood burns for 6-7 hours, so it’s perfect for those cold winter days. I also like that the fan circulates the air, which makes it much more comfortable to be in the room. This stove is definitely worth the investment.

This stove easily heats my 700 sq ft basement which includes a bedroom and bathroom. Very efficient considering the amount of wood burned and heat produced. Maintaining a low burn provides plenty of heat for this area.

Stoked up for an overnight burn and burning damped fully down, I still had coals in the morning about 8 hours later to rekindle with. Based on a few nights of use, it kept the entire basement plenty warm (low to mid 70s F) with outside temps around 15 degrees F for about 6 hours before it began to slowly cool down and drop into the upper 60s.

By then it was morning (about 8 hours later) and time to rekindle with the remaining coals. Running it in the day with the stairway door open, it will heat the upstairs as well (700 sq ft, 2 bedrooms and bathroom) so long as a steady medium burn is maintained throughout the day.

I haven’t attempted to heat the upstairs overnight. It would probably be chilly in the bedrooms (low-mid 60s) as the stove cools during the last few hours. I have another slightly larger stove (designed to heat 1200-1800 sq ft) for the rest of my home (1950 sq ft).

Running both at a low to medium burn (based on position of damper) I have no trouble heating the entire 3350 sq ft (maintaining low-mid 70s) when outdoor conditions are teens/twenties F. As with any small stove, the only limitation for this one is having a long overnight burn.

Even stoked with white oak, you’re looking at 5-7 hours before it’s going to begin cooling off; however, if you’re there to feed it, it is capable of heating 1500-2000 sq ft unless your floor plan is prohibitive to air flow.

A ceiling fan in reverse, if in the same room as the stove, does a great job of mixing and circulating the air. It will pull cold air off the floor, push it down the walls, and across the stove. Cold air from other rooms (with doors open) will be drawn towards the room with the stove helping to heat the whole home.

I bought this one week ago and I’m disappointed that I did. I was replacing my 18 year old wood stove of another brand. The description of this stove matched my old one in size and heating range. I figured 4 people gave this stove 4 stars and some great reviews, sounds like the stove for me.

I like the style of the stove and that the bricks were already installed ready to go, and I really like the size of the opening to put logs in, much easier than my old stove. That’s why I gave the stove 2 stars.

But the main reason I bought the stove was to heat my home. The damper control does not seem to have any affect on the fire in the stove, it’s like it’s open all the time. So my fire burns hot and fasts every time.

I go to put another log on the fire and it’s already burned out, no coals left to relight another log, just ashes. I’m lucky if the fire will burn for 3 hours.

We had that stove professionally installed and it works like a charm!! We used it all winter as our main heating source and even at -40C of Sk cold weather it was super cozy in the house. I didn’t have any issue with the smoke coming out.

And the only time the door is open is to add a couple logs!! You have to keep to front window clear of creosote (might be called something else). I used water and vinegar with a paper towel. works perfectly to keep that clear view of the fire!!.

Stove works great (1800 model) and I have had and used many different stoves over the years. When buying a wood stove, make sure it has air control and damping control like this unitIf not, all your heat will go up the pipe and outside not in the room (very important) and will burn wood way too fast.

Very tempting to buy a big large older stove that someone has put a new coat of paint on only to find all your heat goes out the pipe. Just trying to help someone who may not be experienced with wood burners.

The 1800 model is a good medium size stove that works. If your area is larger than 1800sq ft, go bigger but get one with the air and draft control features. Now go have fun with your chainsaw!.

Positive: Long burn time (after fixing airflow – see Negative). Easy to start a fire Fuel efficient Attractive appearance Neutral: Ash removal is a little clunky using the removal brick to slide ashes into.

Negative: The secondary air flow is too large for good fire control in the middle of the US. The secondary air is so high that even when the primary air is closed completely, a good hardwood load on a cold night will “run away”, getting the stove too hot.

Another effect of this is that the wood is always burned up by morning, making for a cold house. Try searching for “Florida Bungalow Syndrome” for an article on why this happens. My fix was to use some steel wool in the secondary air flow flowpath, getting the stove to where it is still burning exhaust gas but not so much that the stove overheats.

The other common solution is to install a damper in the flue. The quality of the build is a little hit and miss. The primary damper was not fully tightened during stove assembly at the factory, resulting in essentially no control at all of the fire (that was a simple fix once the offending bolts were located).

The wood burning stove we received arrived fast and the cost was about what we wanted to spend hence the 3 stars. Several bricks from inside the stove arrived broken. Very surprised that they were just loosely placed in there and even more surprised the glass on the door survived as when we opened the door of the stove, the bricks were a jumbled broken mess.

the box it arrived in was beat up and barely on the stove. Several dents and scratches through out the stove. Too much of a hassle to send back so we’ll just have to make due. Will not buy from company again though.

We put one of these in back in November in a fireplace where the old stove rusted out. Summary review We love it. It has a small firebox, so you need to learn how to start it well, but the upside is that it burns very efficiently.

We generally don’t burn more than 8 16 inch logs a day. It also looks very nice in the fireplace. More details all designs involve tradeoffs. We had an exisiting 8 inch insulated stainless steel flu.

One contractor insisted on needing to take it out and replace it with a 6 inch flu. I have a background in engineering (though this is not my area of expertise) so I can appreciate the pluses and minuses.

The 8 inch flu has almost twice the cross sectional area, so the energy required to move the whole column of cold air up and keep it drafing is higher than it would be for a 6 inch flu, so you have potentially a drafting problem.

Our building code allows a reducing cone for 8 to 6 inches, and frankly it has not been an issue. (If you have a very tall chimney, though, you need the opinion of an expert – here the chimney sweep is probably more help than a salesman.

) We consulted the local codes via our chimney sweep and had him install it. It was less than a two hour job. Much more of an issue is the size of the firebox. To start a fire you just don’t have the room to put cardboard, kindling and large logs in all at the same time.

So you need to use either short logs (8 -10 inches) in a T-pee or you need at least three longer pieces that are more finely split, so 2 inches max approximately, and lay them with lots of air space.

Leaving the door cracked slightly to allow lots of draft helps keep the heat up in the lighting phase. Once you have a bed of coals, it will start anything, and once a log or two are burning, you can close down the damper and you get a good deal of heat even when you don’t see roaring flames.

We are tending after the start up to put one large log on the coals at a time, occasionally when it’s really cold, two. The blower runs max 25 watts, measured with a meter, which is maybe. 4 Kwh per day, or even at our.

20/Kwh cost, you’re talking less than $3 per month for the blower. So use it. The air washed window works pretty well. I do clean it off with water most days. Keeping the damper restricted reduces airflow and you do get some film, depending on what you’re burning sometimes more, If you stay ahead of it, you can keep the glass clean.

These EPA stoves are not your grandfather’s pot belly stove that suck volumes of air and swallow all the wood you can throw in. So expect a bit of a learning curve if you have used the fireplace as a fireplace or you’re used to the previous generation of wood stoves.

Because of the small firebox, it is easy for things to fall out, so be sure you have fireproof hearth to meet code in front. A word about delivery – big, heavy box on a pallet. We moved it from the drive to the door for the installers with the forks on our tractor because we could.

The chimney sweep and his partner were able to get it in the door through the mud room and into the fireplace, but they have a lot of experience with stoves. The freight company was able to get it off the truck, but they didn’t have the equipment to move the pallet once it was on the driveway.

So plan ahead. would have loved to put in a picture, but the upload isn’t working.

A less expensive fireplace insert, and for good reason. It is “so very EPA certified” and approved for California it’s actually difficult to get a fire established without leaving the door open a crack until the fire is burning well.

I’ve owned seven wood stoves of different brands over the last 50 years. Possibly I miss-read the advertising literature, but I thought it was supposed to have been manufactured in Canada. Is there a city in China named Canada? Sticker on the back says made in China.

The Californiakated air intake port is “cute,” about an inch in diameter for full burning mode. Pros: It heats my living room. Cons: see above comments. Keep shopping. Elsewhere.

I waited to review this until I had used it for a little while. We bought this to replace an old smoke dragon we had in our living room. I have been heating primarily with wood since I was a young man so this is not my first rodeo with installing a wood stove.

This is small, 4 pieces of wood small. Not a deal breaker if you are heating a small room. Upon delivery we noticed the handle was missing. Not a big deal I thought, signed for it and figured I would contact amazon later and they would send me a new handle.

To my surprise they could not sent me a handle and I had to return the entire stove. I thought this was silly as the handle is less than $20. Seeing the stove weighs almost 300lbs this was not a realistic solution.

They later agreed and gave me a refund on a small portion of the purchase price. I then ordered a handle from U. S. Stove. After getting the liner installed and everything hooked up we started using the stove.

First issue I had was if I ran the fan on high it would blow smoke into the room. Double checking I everything hooked up corrdctly I noticed the flange that goes into the firebox is not welded all the way around.

It goes through the area where the hot air blows out of and you can actually see where the smoke was leaking from. Probably a recall coming for that. I was able to repair it as I am a welder by trade.

Wasn’t happy but it was a lot of work getting to this point and I did not want to start over. Then about a week later my wife went to put a piece of wood in in the morning while I was still in bed and the door fell off.

Probably recall #2. Keep in mind the stove was going and the door was hot as hell. The hinge pins backed all the way out and off it came. Fortunately she wasn’t hurt but it damaged our hearth. Again I repaired this and am now wondering what kind of POS I have purchased.

As far as heat output it does a decent job for its size. You will not get more than 4 pieces of wood in it, but you shouldn’t need to. Once you get used to how to start the fires in an EPA stove that is not an issue and works well for a 1000 square feet or less it will not do the 1800 it claims.

No way too small. If it wasn’t for all the safety issues with it I would probably rate it 4 stars. However I recommend spending a little bit more and buying from a stove dealer learn form my mistakes.

I have included pics of the stove installed and as good of a pic of the smoke leak I could take. I have circled where the leak is from and where it is located. The brown spot was the leak. You’re probably going to have to see my Amazon review for pictures I don’t see where to upload here.

I followed the installation instructions to the letter. I hooked this up to my existing HVAC and cold air return. I did absolutely EVERYTHING as per instructions. I could not figure out why the hot air was NOT reaching any rooms, even the kitchen which is in the next room, less than 15 feet away.

I decided to feel whether any air was coming into the vents at all. There is next to nothing. To do this, I unhooked the duct from the furnace, to see how strong the airflow actually was. I bought this to replace a much smaller wood furnace.

Let me tell you. That much smaller wood furnace, which was rated for about 1,000 sq ft, blew hot air into all the rooms in my house. When I run my oil furnace, the same thing happens. Lots of hot air goes throughout my entire house, even to the second floor.

This furnace is a total waste of money. I wish I had not bought it at all!.

Ash grate is the size of one fire brick. Too air tight. Fan to supply air to fire box seems to make no difference and because the fire burns so low after two weeks we had to clean creosote out of stove pipe.

Still in the process of setting mine up, but helped a friend set theirs up and it was a piece of cake. Nice stove and works well in my 2000 sf pole barn only slightly insulated

I thrilled with my new drolet escape 2100. Factorypure was great to work with. Friendly customer service and they had the best price. The stove came crated very well and had no damage from shipping. I’ve had bad luck with freight in the past so I was very excited about how well it was packaged.

It took a while to get here but that’s just the world we’re living in right now. Would buy from factorypure again without hesitation!.

Replaced the Timber ridge stove I bought from Canadian tire with this Drolet. 100% better. DO NOT BUY A TIMBER RIDGE !! It smoked into my house no matter what I did and fell apart after couple months of intermittent use.

The Drolet is way better and I have had no issues so far with same set up as other garbage stove.

Fortunately, our installer approved the installation of this fireplace. Better read the manuals and specs to make sure you have the required clearance to install the unit. It is very nice and easy to use.

My grandfather is a big fan of this product, and he’s sitting on the couch, soaking up the warmth. Thank you, Flame Authority, for providing such a wonderful product and a wonderful service.

Simply beautifully designed. Very efficient. Looks gorgeous in our mid century modern home in a corner space. Will save us $$$ on electric heat bills and is easy to clean with fireplace glass cleaner.

This stove is massive. fits perfectly in my kitchen. I need to heat my house and may as well cook at the same time. So far I have braised beef in the oven. I made potato leek soup, omelets and fried egg on the cook top.

Managing temperature is a matter of draft and size of firewood, but, I am beginning to understand the dynamic. I am very pleased with the cooking. I was worried that the fire box barely holds 3 big logs for overnight burning.

Each morning my house is warm and I have had hot coals in the firebox. I am hopeful that it will keep my house warm when the winter arrives. So far I think it will heat will and meet my needs, heating about 1800 sq ft through the coldest nights.

False advertising when saying this can be tied to your domestic hot water system. The stove comes with instructions and warning that it cannot be connected to a pressurized system. What domestic hot water system ISN’T pressurized? Those instructions and drawing show it hooked to what essentially is a hot tub.

Great and Worthy experience. This company certainly deserves its excellent reputation! I am very pleased. With very few fireplace stores, we had concerns about finding a competent and trustworthy fireplace.

Things were smooth from the initial inquiry to the purchase.

While this stove looks pretty, it really doesn’t take 20 inch logs due to the way the airflow is. They hage to be placed in vertical, and block the air and it takes a long time to ignite once you pack it for the night.

It needs to be fed every 3 or or hours also, which is not ideal. I wouldn’t trust this in our home as a sole heat, as we intended to use. The heating of 2101 sq ft is not accurate, as it struggles to heat our space of under 1900 sq ft.

This stove has also begun to peel and rust on the top after 3 weeks of use, so we will not be recommending it nor buying one like this again.

We purchased this stove about 6 weeks ago and love it. We have had about 4-5 fires each week since then, and can’t get over how easy it is to use. We have it in our downstairs rec-room and its more than adequate at heating that space (24′ x 22′ room).

Gives off great heat, is easy to load and light, and the glass window gives a great view of the fire. Overall, would definitely recommend this stove.

Well it will be a while until I employ it now, but from what I can see, I like it. I kind of wanted the other model with the more modern styling, but this encases a more classic look, and the base it stands on is much wider that the more modern one, and there is more airflow beneath it as well, so if I can surround it with classical ambience, it will have a real good aesthetic effect.

I hope it works good. I am sure it will. Now for the mechanical permit, and all the piping I need. It did arrive with a few rust spots on the top surface, but I am going to have to learn to fix those little things by and by anyway, so no big complaint with that.

This is more than adequate for my 870 sq ft house that I will block off to about 670 square feet. So I will just burn according to comfort. I have a concrete block brick chimney with a 6 inch square route inside, so the 6 inch pipe should go hand and hand with this.

I hope I did not buy too big of one, but people burn smaller all the time just the take the chill off in cool weather, and it can also reach about 12 degrees below here in Spokane WA, and I have seen it with a wind chill, so this stove will never be inadequate, and the smaller ones do not have a matching 6 inch outlet like this, so this will fit better, and this one was actually cheaper than the smaller ones, except for the real dinks.

Good price for a solidly built basic wood stove. Although compact in size, the stove generates plenty of heat using little firewood. I purchased the optional blower, and I would recommend others do so as well.

The blower is quiet yet fairly powerful. I would have given the stove Five Stars, except it arrived missing the damper rod leaving no way to regulate the burn. It was well within my expertise to fabricate a duplicate rather than fight for a replacement.

The stove arrived in otherwise perfect condition, but I have to say the shipping crate was questionable at best. Being cheaply constructed, it suffered considerable damage from factory to my location.

Delivery from Tractor Supply was fantastic with the trucking company providing literally minute by minute updates on the day of receipt. Overall, I’m very pleased with this purchase, and would certainly recommend this stove to others who are interested in a well functioning, efficient stove without all the decorative additions that result in a much higher price from competitors.

The good; It’s cheap. It is made of solid metal. It does get hot. The bad; It is poorly made. Given that the thing weighs 200 pounds and is stuck in my house now, I wish I’d bought a better one. The stove shipped with a broken door hinge and a stuck airflow control lever; these are fixable but customer service has been abysmal, I’ve been waiting on replacements for a month and have called and emailed must be 10 times now, promises to process replacements but with no actual shipping.

Possibly my broken air control, but it has nowhere near the burn times advertised. The seal isn’t great either, again, may be my broken door hinge. I’ve basically not been using it.

I finally found the store that will give me 5 stars customer service and it is FLAME AUTHORITY! The guy I spoke to over the phone explained to me the things that I need to know before I order this unit.

I cannot wait to put reviews because I am very satisfied with their customer service. We have received the unit just today and no damage. Hoping that it will last longer!.

Every time someone asked where we bought our Nectre N550, I am happy to say that I bought it from Flame Authority. I always recommend them because of their customer service. They are very approachable and this fireplace is worth it.

Everyone in my family loves it and it is easy to use and easy to clean.

I shopped locally in upstate NY for a woodstove to get me through what is turning out to be a very mild winter. $1800+ delivery was a bit more than I wanted to spend (like 2x). I checked the specs on this stove and even though it is bigger than I originally wanted I am very satisfied with the stove.

It has massive steel construction (550+ lbs) that holds the heat overnight w/full turndown. Pop a few small logs in the AM and it starts up in about 10 minutes. The large door easily accepts 8. 5″ diameter logs and I can feed in 18″ lengths at an angle.

The firebox is massive allowing a lot of wood to be piled in for the overnight. Check around for the owner’s manual. Lots of great details in there. The spacing to combustibles is much less than other smaller stoves.

The glass stays relatively clean from the intake air wash from the three overhead air supply tubes. It comes assembled – take out the top cardboard spacers, reposition the insulation/bricks, connect the STEEL flue pipe you need to buy (not galvanized) to your chimney/recommended flue and it starts (add the trim on the bottom).

Generous bottom fed ash box to make cleanout simple. Get a flue mount thermometer for $15 to help monitor the burn rate. Before you buy this consider the delivery. I knew it was only going to the local freight house and I would have to pick it up or opt for delivery.

Crate size was 48″ high which prevented picking this up with my van. A pickup would probably do but it needs to come out/down. I had them deliver with a liftgate, but they only dropped it on the road (no private road delivery!).

Lots of muscle to get it into the house. Suggest you consider renting a floor jack (like for pallets). It will get it onto a garden cart. It will also move short distances on a hand truck with pneumatice tires.

Overall a great buy.

This is a fantastic stove. Well made, quite efficient, attractive. We heat a 2800 square foot home with it. The air intake adjustment is above the door which is very handy (I saw another reviewer didn’t like that, and claims that smoke comes out when he adds wood.

Smoke escaping has nothing to do with the air intake. Instead, this reviewer obviously has poor draft. I’d highly recommend that he have his pipe cleaned, and possible run it higher. ) The price at Northerntool.

com is 1/2 what it is at a local dealer. Truly an amazing stove for this price. The glass is wonderful. Anyone with door windows should purchase a spray specifically designed for removing soot. It works amazingly.

Literally dissolves residue on contact. There are two pieces of advice I’d give drolet. First, add a larger ash pan. This could be done easily by moving the stop back, and elongating the existing pan.

The ashpan is the only drawback, but is not a priority issue for me in any stove. Second, the optional fan is quite weak. The concept of moving air through the stove’s jacket is wise, but the fan is very loud, with little air movement! Not worth the money, and certainly not worth the noise.

These two issues are not huge priorities in a stove for me, so I didn’t lower my rating.

I purchased this stove because it was a large, heavy EPA certified stove that seemed to be at a better price point than equivalent stoves. I’ve burned about a half a cord of wood in it so far and this is my experience.

Good things 1. After buring a full load, have re-started it up to 13. 5 hours later without kinling, paper or matches. 2. Heavy stove, heavier than my friends similar sized cast iron stove and much heavier than many steal stoves this size.

3. Big glass front gives a nice view of the fire. 4. Area near air control stays cool enough that you wont burn yourself if you accidentally touch it while changing the air intake. 5. Puts out a lot of heat.

6. Drolet tech staff answers questions quickly 7. Burns smokeless once up to temp. Bad things. 1. Has a plug in the fire box floor that you remove to transfer ash to the ash pan. This doesn’t seem as convenient as having a grate in the fire box floor and a sealed ash pan door like some other stoves.

2. I didn’t prefer the gold trim on the top of the stove but it was easy to paint black with stove paint. I wanted to give 4 and 3/4 stars because I think the ash removal setup could be better. But that’s not an option so I rounded to 5 stars.

I still haven’t seen a comparable stove at the same price, and am more than happy with my purchase. Also, this isn’t good or bad, but the stove has a modern look that is almost an industrial look due to it’s size.

If you are looking for a quaint looking stove for the corner of your victorian house, this isn’t it. If you like the plain form meets function look and want a ton of heat output than consider this stove.
