19 Best Wood Crochet Hooks (2022 Updated)

I love the way these hooks fit into my hand. They are longer than my metal hooks and don’t hit my palm. Also, since they have a smooth barrel handle, they feel more comfortable to hold for me. The tip requires a little bit of practice as they are sharper at the end and very precise when pulling through stitches.

These feel more like an instrument/tool to me and I adore them! As bonus they are quite beautiful and truly make a professional statement when I’m crocheting my products in public. * Worth the investment.

I just bought 2 of these. They are beautiful and fun to have added to my collection of hooks. However only an hour into crocheting today, the first time I’ve used them, the head snapped off of one. Very disappointed that that happened.

I don’t crochet that tightly. I will see what happens with the other, but expected them to be sturdier even though wood because so expensive.

I have purchased two of these hooks. I have Raynaud’s which causes circulatory problems if my hand get cold. This has made using aluminum hooks painful. I was going to buy several more hooks today while they were on sale, then I saw a flash sale 20% off entire purchase.

Bonus!!!. or so I thought. The site is only allowing one item in my bag at a time even though the hooks show as in stock. I would rather pay more elsewhere than waste time coming back to check if the site is working!.

i crochet constantly and my hands get super stiff. i LOVE my furls hooks – i’ve bought them both new and used and use them for just about everything. Furls also has the absolute best customer service i’ve ever experienced – i had a hook i bought secondhand break while in use and Furls went WAY above and beyond to take care of it for me despite the fact that i didn’t even buy the hook directly from them!! 100% worth the money!.

I love the Furls hooks including these. I was on a tight budget when I bought these. My only issue with these are because they are wood, they sometimes break. Of the several that I purchased, only one has broken.

I have invested the money into the Furls Odyssey hooks because those have metal ends.

I bought my first Tunisian hook (back then they were called Afghan hooks) about 30 years ago, and was excitedly making panels for an afghan — crocheted with cross-stitching. A lady saw me using it, and said, “Ah, but have you seen THIS?” and pulled a wooden double-ended hook from her bag.

She told me her husband had whittled it for her. She tried to explain how to use it, but I needed to try it to be able to really understand. I’ve been curious ever since. FINALLY, I have tried it now! I recommend learning the basics of Tunisian crochet before trying this tool.

The double-ended hook is needed to do Tunisian crochet in the round, such as for hats. Unlike Tunisian worked in rows, you will not need a hook long enough to hold all of the stitches at once. You will work the first half of a several stitches with one end of the hook, then complete several stitches with the other end, using a second ball of yarn.

I’ve barely played with mine, so far, but look forward to experimenting and learning what this new magic wand can do.

Clover brand usually makes good quality tools. I love my Amour crochet hooks, the Clover needlefelting tools, locking stitch markers, and Chibi yarn needles. It’s not easy to find specific niche products, and I give Clover props for that.

You do pay a bit too much, but I’d rather have something reliable than a no-name tool that’s a gamble. I like the length of the double ended crochet hook, and bamboo is pleasant to hold. I used an emery board to smooth the notched area where the inline hook was cut.

Looking forward to to trying out some Tunisian crochet. This hook feels great.

I love Susan Bates rounded head Crochet hooks! I will NOT use other brands. These only catch the thread that I am after while the pointed heads split the thread as I am attempting to catch the correct one.

Susan Bates are ergonomically made for hours of crocheting without hand pain or irritation. So happy I found the Susan Bates brand. Used to purchase these at Hobby Lobby but find they are sold out most of the time.

I suffer with chronic pain, and it had become very difficult to crochet during the past couple years. Happened across the Bamboo Handle Hooks after trying others – MANY!! These are the MOST comfortable hooks I have ever used! Recently I had ‘misplaced’ (HAH!) my J size, and I TRIED to crochet a couple of rows with the old aluminum handle I’d ALWAYS used previously.

It was horrible! I could not get the hang of it, without causing pain! I will stick with these for as long as they’re on the market! I already have replacements for most of the old ones.

I have purchased many different kinds of crochet hooks over the years. I love the all bamboo hooks, but they don’t crochet smoothly enough with some types of yarn. With those different yarns, only the aluminum will do.

I do like the metal hooks, but I have come to rely on the comfort of the bamboo handles. I have purchased another brand with the bamboo handle. That other brand does not have enough of the metal part to comfortably and efficiently crochet.

Susan Bates Bamboo Handle Hooks are both comfortable and efficient. I highly recommend these crochet hooks to anyone, and especially to folks who have pain after crocheting for an amount of time.

One hook had a major defect causing it to get caught on the yarn so its unusable. Normally fine to exchange but during COVID-19 isolation, the store lines are hours long and already took almost 2 weeks just get this one item as an in-store pickup.

The other three hooks are decent. Super lightweight but a bit short for people with big hands.

If you are using a regular aluminum hook, are a avid crocheter that is experiencing any pain, you need to switch to these hooks. They are ergonomic LONG enough and have a good grip. You will be able to tell the difference immediately.

Do not buy the cheap lookalikes as they are not quite long enough and may still hurt your hands. It is worth buying a set of these even though got pretty pricey. I have bought many a hook unfortunately to learn this.

These Clover Amour and gray Etimo hooks are all I am comfortable using. My hands and shoulder have stopped hurting so I can enjoy my project again.

I love my standard Clover Amour crochet hooks but was a little skeptical of the larger sizes because they are made of resin (plastic) instead of aluminum. Turns out there was no need to worry. This puppy is awesome.

Aluminum at this size would be too heavy for a long crochet session, but resin is perfect. I used this hook for hours at a time with no problem. And the comfort grip is exactly the same as the standard sizes.

I also love that the size is engraved into the handle, not printed, so it can’t rub off.

I’ve been using the clover hooks for years now and they are my favorite! I was hunting around for a larger hook size and came across these from Clover. Since the hook isn’t metal I was a bit skeptical about longevity with the hooks, but honestly I am very surprised that I have used the same hook for almost 3 years without any negative impacts to my projects.

The integrity of the hook itself hasn’t been worn down, marred by the yarns, or changed shape (size) in any way as I have seen with other hooks that have been used for a long time. Some of my metal ones, that I used when I was a beginner, have changed shape due to yarns constantly rubbing on the hooks, but I haven’t seen any structural changes from my well used hook vs the brand new one I have as a backup.

My hands don’t cramp up, get sore, and I don’t have to take breaks unless I want to due to any fatigues. The yarn glides smoothly and I get into a rhythm and am quite fast because of how nice this hook works with yarns.

This is the best hook ever for bulky yarns. The only issue I have discovered with this hook (and it is more the yarn itself) the pink part discolored when I made a project using Bernat Blanket Yarn in Coal (black).

Once I realized it was transferring color to my hook I tried my best to wash it off, but it was stained. Directly after the black afghan I made this light pink, white, and gray afghan and thankfully the color didn’t transfer to the this blanket! My hook is discolored, but it is well used and well loved!.

This is possibly the most beautiful hook I will ever own, both aesthetically and practically. It is so shiny and smooth it glides effortlessly through the yarn. An absolute delight to hook with.

I love this set of tunisian crochet hooks. So comfortable to hold and have the perfect point to push through those tighter stitches. The colours are just a fun feature. The extention wires look useful and fit snuggly into the end, with the added bonus of the tightening ‘key’.

I’ve not made use of these properly yet as my current project is using chunky wool and I couldn’t manage to hold too many stitches. Hopeful that a thinner yarn will allow me to work longer rows.

As a relatively new crocheter but experienced knitter, I knew that a decent set of tools would always help. I have used knit pro knitting needles and loved the light weight feel and beautiful colour.

These finely carved hooks are a great addition for crocheting fine yarns. Lightweight, easy to hold. No thumb pad, but I dont notice not having it. I like them so much I purchased all the sizes. Too pretty to hide, I keep mine chair-side in a wooden pencil holder.

These wooden hooks have just the right amount of drag. The fact that these are made of wood also make them very easy to grip. In other words your hand doesn’t get tired as easily. Besides, let’s face it they look like Harry Potter wands.

These crochet hooks are the best I’ve ever used. They’re lightweight, long so the end of the hook doesn’t jab you in the hand, easy to use, and they’re beautiful. The price is higher than other crochet hooks but well worth it.

I’ve made several of these sets. They’re easy to make, they sell very well. and I’ve gotten very positive reviews from several ladies who have bought them. The first sets had 5 slots for spare hooks – now the case has 3 additional slots so there are spaces for all available size hooks but you have to purchase them extra.

I recommend purchasing the extra hooks so you provide a complete set with no empty slots in the case. The space for the handle must be enlarged for the handle, use a scalpel or Exacto knife. Users have asked for a longer handle – I use 1/2″ longer 8mm tubes.

The pocket clip is not wanted by users.

I do woodwork and I also crochet, so I was very pleased to order this kit. It is a very nice looking set and easy to make, but the hooks are not good. The tapered shafts are not what you want when you are trying to make even stitches, and the hooks themselves are very squared off.

Yarn catches on the corners and cannot move smoothly through the hooks. I am considering cutting the hooks off and drilling each of the hook bases so that I can insert and glue some “real” crochet hooks to make the set more functional.

Without better hooks, this set is just a nice gesture that will get a gracious “thank you” before being put away.

I like the hook. I don’t love the hook. It’s nicely made for the money. It has a narrow head and a deep throat. It’s not as smooth as I would like it to be, but most wood hooks do create a bit of a drag on the yarn.

After a lifetime using aluminum crochet hooks, I am so glad I found these Rosewood hooks. These hooks are lighter weight and longer – both features make these hooks more comfortable to hold, especially when crocheting for hours on a large project.

The pointed head makes it easy to insert the hook, even in tight stitches, and the yarn moves smoothly over the wood. I am happily replacing my aluminum hooks with these Rosewood hooks.
