20 Best Wood Duck Decoys (2022 Updated)

I just purchased 2 dozen of these decoys additional to the mallard, pintail, black duck and blue bill from avian. And those are 5 stars wish I could say the same for the canvasbacks. Not sure what is happening with the canvasbacks in particular at the factory but paint chipped mostly on the heads of the drakes prior to opening the box is a little ridiculous.

I mean it’s not a huge deal in terms of the effectiveness with the ducks themselves. But for me paying $ for something I expect them to look mint out of the box like the other species. I have another 6 pack on order I’ll be exchanging for the bluebills.

Other than that a really nice large realistic and light weight decoy I don’t doubt they’ll work great even still.

So i had purchased these decoys a while back, a little over a season ago. I’ve not had them in any sort of protective bags and they have been showing minimal amount of wear. The only thing i can complain about is the bills on any Avian X decoys.

No matter if its my Avian x mallards, teal, pintails, widgeon or red heads they all tend to show a small amount of wear in the bills. But lets be honest, the ducks won’t have a chance to see that when you’re getting them to decoy with these decoys.

So far I’ve been pleased with Avians line of deeks but these are nothing like the photos. The photos look ultra realistic with great feather detail but what I received looks like they were dipped in jet black paint from the neck down.

Though I feel deceived I’m still going to run them. Fingers crossed.

these flambeau storm front deks have great detail, 3 different head postions and are different then flambeaus other 12 pk. deks that you can get on amazon, those cost just a hair less but they don’t have 3 different head positions and the paint pattern, while good isn’t the same as these.

I honestly don’t know if all the UV talk is all that important, after all, we are just assuming we know what an animal can see and can’t see, aren’t we. But, these deks are really nice and if they last anything like my other flambeaus have, over 25 years on some of them and they’re still going strong, well these will be great.

When I started hunting ducks I bought two dozen of these decoys, as most new hunters do. After a few hunts half the paint was beaten off of them from being in the decoy bag. They are very unrealistic.

At this price point just buy the higdons and have them for years. I hunt nothing but avian and higdon now and my higdons last longer are a better price, and honestly look better in a current on a river.

Take my advice and stay away from these cheap things.

But these decoys along with a mojo and a decoy bag. Decoy bag and mojo came in fine but as for the decoys all I received was two hen mallards. As you would I called and asked what was going on and cabelas said that I would have to send back the two hens in order to send me the 12 ducks I bought.

They wouldn’t just send me the remaining 10 ducks. I just got all 12 back last week but still remain unsatisfied with the whole ordeal. I don’t think I will be ordering online here any longer.

These decoys really are great for this price. Love the foam fill. Hunted with them last weekend. Set out with an easy toss. Sat up straight immediately. The finish is kind of flat. Looked at some expensive decoys at the store and realized the only difference is a “shiny” finish.

A quick light coat of a clear gloss and these look exactly like $90 decoys. Will buy Higdon decoys again for sure.

I bought these ducks this year just getting into duck hunting reason I am starting out late in my years is I bought a Boykin Spaniel this year. I want to be able to hunt with her. I showed them to a friend that has hunted ducks for many years and he said that these ducks were very good quality.

But I also like the fact that this company back to the wetland conservation.

The price was great and they shipped directly from the factory FedEx, so I had them in 5 days. The green used for the drake’s head seems too light and there is a molding issue with the keel on the drakes.

The keel on the hen decoys is solid but the drake keel is too thin where it attaches to the decoy body, allowing it to move back and forth. Still for the price on these foam filled decoys, I’d buy more if I needed them.

These decoys look fantastic. I am on my 2nd season with my first dozen, I bought another 1. 5 dozen recently. The bag that comes with them sucks, but I’ll use it until I need to replace it. They move really well (side to side & up /down), they dont move as well as GHG, but they do move pretty dang good.

I am comparing these decoys to my GHG PG Gadwalls, which I believe are some of the best Gadwall decoys on the market. I needed some good Widgeon finishing decoys, so I wanted the most realistic look.

Based on pictures and comments, I believed the Avian would be more detailed than my GHG. I am not sure why, the GHG are very detailed. In the end the level of detail is the same. The difference is the weight and type of plastic used in the decoys.

The Avian are significantly lighter. The plastic on the Avian seems thinner and is definitely more flexible than the GHG. I have had some wing tips break off on the GHG as the plastic is very rigid, but they are built to take a lot of abuse.

The bottom and keel of the Avians are a tannish color. I want all of my decoys to have black keels, so I will be painting these. I am happy with the detail on the Avians and they will definitely fill the need.

I like having different brands of decoys and am glad I purchased these as a reference for Avian. Maybe being lighter, they will have more action, but that has yet to be determined. They key will be how well they hold their color and how they stand up.

Very realistic great pack of blocks in various positions for a realistic looking flock. Two downsides could use thicker mil plastic on each decoy for protection during shipping and hens could use a dulled paint instead of the semi glossy finish they have.

I’m sure they’ll still draw ducks in for sure!.

extremely durable decoy which is great because i throw my decoys in and out of boats and trucks and they still look brand new. they are also realistic in size and color the only complaint i would have is after a while the flocked heads start to show some scratches but it’s barely noticeable but over all great decoys and would definitely recommend i’m even buying another dozen or two.

A dozen of these is really not much more in the scheme of things over cheaper decoys. Just get these instead. Quality over quantity, just like anything else. Well worth it, love Avian-X.

Decoy has been great for me the past couple years. Made out of good material. Biggest issue with the juniors is that the AA batteries do not last what they say. I have put every kind of battery in that you can think of and it still doesn’t last very long.

I can get one or two hunts out of them depending on how cold it is. They do not perform well in wind over 10 mph either. My HD cuts right through it and will last 8-9 hunts. Highly recommend getting an HD if you hunt in any kind of wind or cold temperatures.

I have put more into batteries than I would have if I would have just gotten the HD.

I already had a Lucky Duck HD with remote for the past three seasons, and it’s great. I was hesitant about buying these because they were less expensive. They are basically the same as the HD without the 6V battery and remote.

They are the same size, and the detail is the same as the HD. I read some reviews where it said the wings were flimsy. I like the wings on these better than the HD because these have a small foam disk on them so that the wings will float.

It also appears that those wings are interchangeable with the HD. I think I’ll find some of the rechargeable 6V batteries for them instead of messing with AA batteries. I used rechargeable NiCad AA batteries the first round out, and I think I had a copy of weak ones installed.

Apparently, I can buy the remote receiver and use my existing remote with all three ducks, but I rarely turn them off when hunting. Very pleased with this purchase.

The Lucky Duck is an excellent decoy that really brings in the ducks! I received mine in 2017 and used it all season with good success. When I went to use it on opening day in 2018, it didn’t work. I contacted Cabelas and they sent me another.

very impressive! It took about 5 weeks between sending back the old and receiving the new. but that’s to be expected given the large system. I turned it on and it worked fine. but. the remote would not connect even though I followed the instruction exactly.

The light on the handheld fob was working so I thought that should fine. I called Lucky Duck in Wisconsin and the very helpful fellow advised me to purchase a new A23 battery for the fob( which cost me $17).

But then it worked perfectly! Even though it was new, apparently the cheaper battery does not retain it’s charge between manufacture and sale of the product. Now I’m second guessing that this might have been the problem with the first decoy! The point is.

even though the light works on the fob, you may need to change the battery anyway!.

Lighter weight and easier to set up then old original, however it seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes you have to just hope it will spin or shake it to improve connections to battery to make it run.

Problem: You need to turn the battery and its carrier upside down to put it back in the decoy. In doing so the wires bend or kink and it changes the connection so it won’t always run when you hit the switch.

To avoid this flaw strip the wire connections off expose bare wire and direct wire it to the battery-post. If you do not do this it will only work about half of the time you hit the switch. It is a flaw but you can work around it.

Can not say more about these decoys. They look very life like and the size is perfect for magnums. Some brands sell magnums and you get them they are undersized these are perfect size for visibility and storage.

If you want bigger go for the battleships. I use these with a few battleships mixed in for a great spread.

Obviously, the season hasn’t opened yet, so the decoys haven’t even hit the water yet. What I’ve seen so far is what I believe to be a well made decoy with a very Realistic paint job. Based upon past experience with Higdon foam filled decoys I expect them to be durable, with durable paint, that the ducks really seem to like.

I am a huge fan of the Higdon foam filled decoys, and am in the process of replacing at attrition my roughly 500 decoys, with Higdon foam filled. Generally speaking, I consider the inclusion of several poses a real plus.

The only thing negative I have to say about the product is the inclusion of one sleeper. In my experience if you are going to use sleepers, you need at least 8-12. One sleeper doesn’t do much for you.

These are super realistic, in my opinion the best on the market for head styles and colour. Weighted keel is nice. The walls of the decoy are slightly thinner than my other decoys, not to say this will affect the durability of the decoy over the years, but I would have liked them a little more solid… saying that, they are lighter than most decoys to carry and don’t make that loud CLUNK when they hit together.

Overall fantastic decoys and I would buy them again. I also seen avian x black ducks in store and they’re even better than these; I wish I didn’t already have enough black ducks or I would have bought them.

-These decoys are easily compressed to allow more to be carried in the same space. The rubber like plastic with which they are constructed appears quite durable. The 3-D features pressed into the surface of the decoys looks very good.

-I did not actually find the decoys to be as “lightweight” as anticipated. Each decoy weighs about 20 ounces (1 lb. -4 oz) before even adding any decoy anchors. For comparison, I own non-compressible standard weighted keel floating decoys for various manufacturers that weigh 4 to 6 ounces less.

-I found the inflation stems to be problematic. Permanently sealing the existing stems and installing standard Schrader tire stems with valves on the bottom of each of my decoys may resolve the issue.

When deflated for transport, my decoys develop unwanted dents and deformations. When carrying the decoys to my hunting blind, the plastic cools and stiffens and the dents and deformations become fixed.

I have no access to heated water or other heat sources in my blind that can be used to soften the plastic. The dents and deformations can be removed by overinflating the decoys slightly. I would rather not have to try to inflate the decoys with my breath, as the cold plastic would be very stiff.

Also, my decoys have already been exposed untreated water, and I really don’t want to develop Giardiasis or any other waterborne illness as a result of putting my mouth on a contaminated air stem. I considered using a compact tire pump to inflate the decoys at the blind but have found that the stems have no threading nor molding compatible with any of my standard air pump adapters.

Regardless of the means for providing compressed air, the stems themselves are flawed in that they have no valves to contain compressed air. Any compressed air added to the decoys simply escapes the stem before I can install the plastic stem plug.

(Also, many of the plastic stem plugs leak air quickly. ) -So, for now, in cold weather conditions, my most reasonable option has been to overinflate the decoys in a warm building prior to hunting, and to carry the decoys fully inflated to the blind.

The decoys do deflate slightly while cooling, but he unwanted dents and deformities are avoided. Unfortunately, this option does negate any space saving offered by the purchase of “packable” inflatable decoys.

I had an issue with Dakota Decoy company which they solved in a quick and professional manner. I am very appreciative of how the handled my issue and they treated me. Because of that experience I had with them I am taking the time to write a review about their recent decoys I purchased and hunted over last year.

The Inflatable packable Mallards are identical to the regular Dakota Mallard decoys. I hunt public land and pack my decoys in and out on foot every day I hunt. These decoys are noticeably lighter. Now, since they are collapsible, I am able to fit carry another dozen decoys in my decoy sack while still carrying the same amount of weight on my back.

I wash my decoys lightly with soap and water after each hunt so my decoys will look a little better than the next guys regardless, but these decoys still appear new after being carried in and out of public land 20-30 days this past season.

These decoys also must be squeezed and the air hole has to be capped in order for them to stay deflated. In other words, these decoys will not collapse on their own and their tendency is to expand back to the full form.

Since this is the case, these decoys will never have the wrinkles or oddly shaped body like the original inflatable Cherokee Decoys. The air holes do not have to be capped in order for these decoys to float and is really only used when they need to be deflated for storage.

I purchased two six packs of these decoys online from you. The website listed the mallard heads as painted. I am impressed with the quality of these decoys. The two six packs contained drakes with flocked heads.

I hunt rice checks out here in California. We leave our decoys out all season. Flocked heads do not hold up in the sun and rain. I was lead to believe that I was buying painted heads. Check your site.

I am impressed by the molding detail and the paint job. Usually female ducks get short changed but this is the best looking hen mallard I have seen. The tips of the bills are submerged.

Very good product for the money. There are some flawsbut would still recommend them to anyone.

The paint job on these decoys is amazing. Had to look twice to find a duck that landed in amongst them. Having the decoy bag also included made it an easier choice, if only they would of added field stand that allow them to stand by themselves (for the cold days when the ground is frozen) and not just the ones that you have to push into the ground.

I would of given these decoys five stars. I will be buying more of these for next year.

These ducks are basic enocomy decoys that will add some color to the spread at a low price. The plastic is hard and seems durable and the keel is good with many tying points. They are good sized and have some different colors that should catch the attention of passing birds.

However, the paint on these decoys was not up to my standards when I received them. There were minor scuffs on the sides and top and the white paint on all the decoys was severely faded. I touched up the paint myself and put a few layers of clear matte paint to protect it and these decoys don’t look half bad.

I was dissappointed that I had to paint these because in my mind if I’m buying new decoys, the paint should be pristine out of the box. That being said, they were around 20 bucks so it doesn’t upset me as much as it would if my more expensive decoys came scuffed and faded.

If you don’t mind adding a little paint or can deal with a few paint imperfections, these decoys are a good deal and will serve their purpose. Hopefully they will stand the test of time. (I did try to contact flambeau customer service by email and was not responded to).

I was sold in these after my buddy shot a duck and hit the decoy. The pellet never penetrated the decoy. Only reason for giving 4 stars is due to receiving a decoy with multiple pin holes. I sealed and good to go.

Only 4 stars for now, because I’ve not gotten a chance to see how they do over a season. Upon first observations, these decoys are definitely different than your ordinary decoy, but that’s the point.

They feel rubbery, and they have sand-filled keels. Other than that, I have no complaints. They fill up with air to become a full-sized decoy after a quick blow in the air tab, and they look great! Flocked heads on the drakes is a bonus.

I’m curious to see how the flocking does after a season or two. You can’t replace these heads like you can with normal Dakota decoys. They will look great in the spread this season, and they should move around easily with their light weight.

I’ve hunted over a dozen of these before with someone else, and I was super impressed by their realism. I had to get my hands on some. I hope Dakota keeps making these and even starts adding more species to their line of collapsible decoys.

Could be a game-changer in the decoy market.

These decoys look good, but thats where they stop. We had them in a field on a couple different occasions, wind ranging from 10-30 MPH & they did not move at all. We tried them with the bungee down, no bungee, moving them, nothing we did worked, they just didn’t move in the wind.

We bought 2 dozen (4 boxes) & returned them all. If they can get a better motion system, these decoys would be great, until they do that, I’ll stick with GHG (probably the best motion system available) or Avian X.

They work great very durable. But make sure you buy the decoy bags for them. Very nice and easy to stack. Only thing I wish they would come out with flocked heads for these.

Only complaint I have is I wish these came with lighter stands because the stands alone start adding weight quick when you’re hauling a big spread out to the blind. Otherwise, these are great looking decoys and have had flocks landing right in middle of them.
