15 Best Wood Engraving Tool (2022 Updated)

I bought this for fine marking/engraving. Functionally it does what it’s name implies but it is cumbersome to handle which makes accuracy difficult. On the plus side: the percussion control is good, it comes with a template and it is not a high cost item.

On the minus side: it is manufactured to a low price which is reflected in its user friendliness level. The engraving point is too short and there is no spare engraving point. The template is made of cheap plastic which will probably have a very limited life and on top of that it was warped and will not sit flat – therefore difficult to use.

Conclusion. Am I happy with it – no, but I am not bothered enough to return it. At the cost it is not worth the time and in reality it will still have uses. In the meantime I will continue to look for something a little less clunky.

However it seems like it works like a Dremel thus far. Im skittish and skeptical about saying as good as a dremel. But its a well built tool or it is from my observation. Ive not used it for anything other than grinding nding and smoothing though.

Used for a test run on sycamore with the normal bit. Nice to hold and weighted well. Used on setting 1 it worked very well and I was surprised at the results. The noise is like a compressor, not too loud but I advise to use away from everybody else as it is not that quiet either.

I noticed vibrations through my hand after 20 mins but I am extremely happy with this purchase, and for a novice it is very usable and a nicely finished product at a fantastic price.

I like this machine! It’s sturdy and like all etchers, LOUD. I used it on metal right away. I am impressed with the job performed. My tools are personalized.

Works great, easy to use free hand and mark all my tools.Takes a little effort to scribe metal, plastic and other soft material is a breeze. For the price it works well and is easy to use.

Overall my experience with this laser has been very good. I’ve cut plywood, engraved wood, cut stencils out of cardboard, etched artwork onto ceramic tile, and cut gaskets from foam. I’ve only had the laser two weeks so I feel like that’s pretty impressive.

We have an eighty watt co2 laser at work and as far as I can tell this does just as well on anything I want to do as long as you’re not in a hurry. It does take many passes to cut cleanly through most materials but at 5.

5 watts I’m just trilled that it will cut. I think the absolute limit for cutting seems to be about 7mm thick before you just can’t focus the laser well enough to cut properly. The only complaint I have is the strain relief of the wire and tubes coming off the laser head; the stock setup doesn’t really work.

I made a 3D printed bracket that makes the wire and tube routing super clean and shared it on thingiverse. Just search for ‘jinsoku’. Oh, and SainSmart thanks for the excellent laser and feel free to use my strain relief bracket from the factory :).

Very well packaged. Instruction booklet was wonderful, easy to assemble. Plugged into our Linux desktop, shows up as /dev/ttyUSB0. Installed LightBurn and started engraving / cutting. We wanted a larger format machine as well as one made from 2020 profile so we could customize to our work area.

Couldn’t be more pleased with this engraver/cutter and with the endless customization / upgrade possibilities.

Perfect fit and function for the Dremel 9924. My only bit got lost so the tool is worthless without one and now I’ve got 4 spares.

These are easily lost. Getting several for a low price will likely last me the rest of my life.

I have an old WEN engraver that’s still in use. Bought this one because I could get the diamond tip accessory to use on stainless steel. Both the carbide tip it came with and the diamond tip I bought work well with this Dremel.

Can’t complain about the noise (unless you expect to violate the laws of physics). The tips did not come loose as others experienced. I don’t love the grip but it just takes getting used to as compared to the skinnier WEN body.

Cord is somewhat stiff and makes engraving a bit more challenging but it should make it less likely to experience wear and shorting out down the road.

I purchased this for engraving my info on my suppressor, since the ATF requires it. I went to my local printing shop and had some labels made with all the needed information and used them for stencils for the engraving.

After a couple test tries, I did the actual one and it turned out great. The engraver worked as needed on half speed and did best on the hard aluminum using the steel tip that came with it. Great little tool and will use it for other projects.

I’m a past mechanic (from the late 1960s to 1980s) and a very longtime DIY. I’ve learned that HFT is always my first thought. I saw this as I was checking out, remembered a small project, and picked this up to rough a piece of plastic that I was repairing.

It did that pretty well, better than just sandpaper in a small area. So well, that I started marking some of my tools, and it really did a good job. Light weight, easy to control, very easy to work with, produces a line that’s easy to see.

For a tool this small and inexpensive that’s all I’d ask. If I were to need this for longer usage I’d make sure I could find more engraving heads. I haven’t looked. And I have no reason to believe this, but t feels a little too light, like maybe it should have been made of more durable material.

I certainly would tell anyone that it’ll probably do ‘most any small job, and likely more.

Good balance, easy to use. I have many other diamond burrs from other tools that I hope will fit. I will update this review shortly. This tool only requires 2 AAA batteries which are supplied. the shaft size of the bit is 2.

4 mm (. 09 in. ) the outside bore is 1/2 inches and 6 inches long, includes allen wrench for adjusting height of the tool burr. the surprise is the balance of a pencil. Other engravers are wild with speed and not as easy to control the placement and use.

The norm in life is that most things have their price increase. increase: electronic and electrical items not so much (reasons are pretty clear to most people). What is different about many recent items I have acquired is that the quality has increased without a significant (or no) price increase.

I needed to replace my old engraving tool so I purchased this one: it is a bit lighter, quieter and more responsive than my old one. As for me? I would say it was an upgrade costing less than my old one that was decades old.

We bought this to engrave some knives and things for school. It is simple and easy to use. I recommend engraving like a letter and a code instead of your full name, just to make it faster and less stressful on the little motor.

On that note, it comes with a plastic stencil card for letters and a plastic card for symbols. The only negative is that the stencil card might not hold up over time since the tip of the engraver slowly whittles it away.

But you could just as easy freehand engrave with this or find some other work-around if that happens. A great value overall.

This Engraver is perfect for security purposes! Easy to use, sharp engraving point with a fine point. I’ve used it on several metals, hard plastic and soft plastic and it’s great. Soft plastic requires a higher depth setting, but that’s just a turn of the dial.

I’ve marked all of our replacement tools, and am now marking everything else I come across. I had tried using my Dremel Tool for engraving (not the Dremel Engraver) and this is much easier with greater control.

I bought this to mark my tools, in an attempt to avoid arguments on site who’s is what. I have found it’s good for etching glass and quite a few other things. You can buy a plain vase decorate it, or ‘dremel-it’, as it has become known, and hand made Christmas /birthday presents abound.

I like to say their crafted by disabled orphans, to explain the jiggly lines. But I expect the hear from the disabled orphans society any day now. Remonstrating that the orphans make a better job of it than me?.

Great Dremel set. I picked this set in particular for the storage box, many attachments and the metal stand. Good quality. Great price.

The unit came nicely packed which is great to see since some delivery services seem to pride themselves on how far they can throw a package onto your porch. Assembly is fairly easy and can be put together in a fairly short amount of time, also it doesn’t require any sort of college degree to understand the directions.

The unit seems pretty solid and definitely does not have a cheap plastic feel to it. The software/user interface is really user friendly and simple so beginners won’t feel like they have to understand computer programing to make it work.

However, you will find yourself needing an upgrade fairly quickly since they made this easy to operate, it doesn’t take long to start testing things to see what it can do and you will need a more advanced software program to do this.

All in all, this is a well built laser and easy enough for beginners to enjoy and still has the capability to do more advanced work. I look forward to continuing this journey with my xTool D1 laser.

The box stunk of tobacco smoke when I got it. After cleaning the box and foam, the smell went away. The tools cleaned up nicely and are in great shape. It was a good deal for the price. Once the cutting edges were honed a bit more, they cut like like a hot knife through butter.

I bought this set primarily for its 1mm v gouge. It does the trick of cutting very fine lines in vinyl for relief printmaking. The set came with plasters just in case, which I thought was very useful

The engraving cutter does OK with light engraving, which is what it is described to do. Not very suitable for higher demand, say for, using for milling with a 2mm cutter. Cord from charger to engraver is too short unless you have an outlet on the workbench top.

The spindle lock button gets in the way a little until you get used to holding the engraver. Otherwise, it does the job of light engraving, which is what I bought it for. Jon.

Two # 105 engraving burrs for less than the price of one in a store? What’s not to like? These are German made burrs that stay sharp for a fairly long time. The 1/8″ shank is a standard size for Dremel.

The cutting head is small enough for doing fine detailed work. Might help to use a magnifier so you can actually see what you are doing!.

I am appreciative for such quality considering the great value of these bits. I use them extensively in my shop and the burr bit cutting edge lasts a good while. I’m usually cutting softer materials also such as tin / copper / wood and I take that into consideration.

They do exceptionally well in wood. Super pleased.

I have no trouble with this set. It clearly shows on the packaging that it contains 11 pieces. This set is well worth the money in my opinion

The description online did not clarify that it doesn’t include the motor part. Photo is deceptive, as it implies it comes complete with motor part, but when I got it and opened pack, it’s only the drill parts.

Best tool ever! So many different tips to use. This carving and engraving kit is a much better bang for your buck than buying each tip individually. They are sturdy and don’t wear like other brands that claim to be as good as Dremel.

Though I never owned a rotary tool before, I decided it was time, and I wanted the Dremel brand, but one that would last for years to come! I did some research, and liked the reviews of the 4000 series, and I wanted one of the kits, that had more attachments, and accessories, and the Dremel 4000 4/36 kit, fit my needs perfectly! I also purchased a flex shaft, in order to do more delicate work! I love the variable speed switch, which is separate switch from the on/off switch, which makes it easier to change speeds, without turning the tool off! I would recommend this to anyone, who demands power, and durability, plus it’s endless versatility, to do a multitude of projects!.

This Dremel 4000 is even better then I expected for working on lapidary and sterling projects! The capabilities are endless, and using a flex shaft makes even more versatile. I can’t stress enough how much I love this product! Making jewelry pieces, polishing cabs, it does everything I need.

It came with a circle cutter and some other polishing and cutting tools, and excepts everything Dremel makes. Highly recommended to anyone working on such projects!.

This Dremel 3000 had two very small scratches on it, marked in silver marker – it failed the factory inspection for these tiny cosmetic imperfections but was brand new and functions 100%. An absolute bargain! I doubt ALL of the “refurbished” units are only cosmetic flaws, but I’m happy mine was.
