14 Best Wood For Arrows (2022 Updated)

I purchased these unique hexagon shapes to experiment with in my encaustic paintings. I have an ehibit coming up this year and hope to convey environmental issues with honey bees. These hexagon shapes are perfect for my plan and they are very affordable and well constructed.

One of the forms came damaged in shipment and the very responsive Blick customer service person quickly sent a replacement to me. Could not ask for better service or quality art materials.

This teepee shape intrigued me as soon as I saw it. I spend a good while deciding which size to try. I got the larger one which I like but I am going to also get the smaller one because I see so many possibilities for using them.

I plan to use them both for myself, for gifts and to donate to charity auctions and sales.

I love using clear gesso on these first. I prefer to paint with high flow acrylics. They dont bleed as much with gesso down but still flow beautifully.

I have been really pleased with the Youth / Kids Archery Arrows (6 pack). I am a small adult woman and would still consider myself a beginner. I use them with my 27-pound, fiberglass recurve bow. I use them for target practice in my back yard and they fly well.

I like that they are all natural and look all natural (I am a traditional archer). They are light weight but still fly straight. Just beware that they will split if you shoot them at something hard, like the side of a shed.

However, with that said, the ones that I have split some, still fly fine. Upon close inspection, one can see where the tip has been jammed back into the shaft a bit. Very nice arrows for the price!.

I bought these replacement arrows for my children and was initially very pleased with how straight they were. Then we used them and found that the nocks are often not alligned correctly with the fletchings.

The result is that the defective arrows are rotated so the fletchings hit the bow incorrectly. I think this affects the arrow’s flight. Also, when used with my child’s compound bow the worst arrows (2-3 out of each batch of 6 that we purchased) catch a fletching on one of the compound bow strings when drawing the bow, damaging the fletching.

When I communicated this problem to the company they said they would not exchange the arrows with the rotated nocks because all of this type of arrow they have will have the same variability. I would not recommend these arrows.

Bought these in town and was excited to see they were from 3Rivers because I’ve wanted more wooden arrows from here for a while. I noticed that one of the nocks was crooked, but it didn’t bother me. The first shot I took, the nock malfunctioned and exploded , cause isn’t the string to hit my arm several times.

The second shot I took, the nock broke and fell off when it hit the target. The next day, this happened again. Three of the six arrows were in need of repairs in the first 2 times shooting them. Some of the fletching are starting to come up on the fronts too.

On a positive note, they are straight and fly very well. I thought they would be heavier, which is a plus. Overall, I do not know if I would purchase these again, but they are not horrible arrows.

The arrows are great! They shoot consistently and seem to be well made. However, I requested for the field points and broadheads that I ordered to be attached by Three Rivers because I am still a beginner.

One of the broadheads fell off immediately after taking it out of the box. A field point came loose after firing twice into my layered foam target. Another came loose after only practicing with it for one week.

I have other arrows that a friend made still haven’t had a tip come loose after months of use. If 3 Rivers is going to offer this service they need to do a better job of attaching the points and broadheads.

Otherwise, they should stop offering this service.

Making the switch from carbon arrows to wood arrows. So I order 6 of these in 55-60 spine arrows with 125 gr field points. And they are flying great out of 69 Bear Kmag 45lb recurve. They are so good I just now ordered 6 more! Hoping to use them this coming season to hunt deer.

I would recommend these wood arrows to someone looking to try some out.

So let’s start with the bad and end with the good. Upon initially seeing my new Gold Tip Traditional Carbon arrows I was quite excited to get them out and see how they performed. I ordered 6- fletched, cut to length arrows with inserts included.

Normally I would not have anyone else fletch my arrows but considering I was paying $81. 50 and being from 3 Rivers I was expecting quality. When I went through my first shot with each six I began noticing the flaws.

For instance, 1 arrow was nocked incorrectly with the coch feather backward. Not a huge deal but when shooting over and over, it becomes irritating to always have to keep an eye out for the one with a white coch feather and backward nock.

As I shot each arrow for the third time I watched as one of my fletchings fluttered down in front of my face, half being torn off and have remained on the shaft. I inspected my arrows and noticed that multiple fletchings were only partially glued on, most of which had the forward piece hanging out, waiting to be caught and torn.

So after buying 6 arrows and shooting them three times, I now have to work on three of them. Not that the work is hard or anything like that, it’s just the fact that I paid a steep price for mediocre work.

Now to end on a good note, these shafts themselves are straight, weighted evenly and appear to be tough. The ones I have that remain properly made shoot straight and leave my old wood shafts in the dust.

So ultimately the question is, would I recommend these to a friend. That depends on if and how Three Rivers corrects this issue and ensures that it does not happen in the future. I’m starting to hear more and more complaints about this same issue.

For reference I am shooting a 60# @ 28″ Pronghorn Custom longbow, 27. 5 draw and the 500’s with 125 gr points seem to be the correct match.

I’ve had my set of one dozen custom Gold Tip Traditional Arrows built by 3Rivers using their “arrow builder” for about sevens months now. I’ve shot them extensively and used them during a paper animal archery league at my sportsman’s club.

They’ve been used and abused; hit with other peoples arrows, shot into the wood target frame, trees, the dirt, ect. and fired thousands of times from my approx 50# recurve. They all still look and perform great! Not one broken arrow, not one lost fletching! I love this set of arrows so much I just bought another dozen in 400 spine for another bow of mine.

I don’t buy the pre-made ones because I prefer to have the wrap with pink and lime feathers so I can find them when I miss whatever small game I’m shooting at in the woods. If 3Rivers gives as much attention to building these as they do their custom orders though, then they are well worth the price.

I didn’t want to cut and tune etc. my bow and arrows and self, if something will change, so I invested in these to be an excellent baseline. For a sage 55#, 125gr tips, using the spine calculator here, I learned the length to cut these to.

Once I cut and took them out, I noticed how small changes in my form was predictably changing the flight path, they were flying incredibly well, grouping beyond what I thought was my capability. My 28″ test length for the arrow punched clean through my target that reliably stopped my others of similar weight, and one buried clean underground, I’ll have to look for it after some snow melts, these are heavy hitters.

I even called a cut down tree end, 3″, as my target, and hit it first shot of the day from about 15 yards away, as quite the amateur. They have an attractive faux wood finish that doesn’t look like a glossy picture of wood, it looks like wood.

I can only surmise the shield cut and helical 5″ feathers contribute to stability. The red feathers look amazing, with the wood tones and classic logos on the label. The nock moves freely up and down the string as others grip it, haven’t had any problems.

I think I’ll get another 6 tomorrow.

Good quality wood for craft. Painted with acrylic paint. Only required one coat of paint. The twine hanger is attached very well. Note this is a left facing arrow.

Great for classrooms , kids rooms. Sturdy and the wood pallet color is light, easy for painting. I’m using it this year for my classroom. Is my first year teaching. I’m doing an adventure them. I

I love this arrow. I got it for a friend whonis having a baby boy and wanted to put his name on it. Once we did and see how cute it was. We decided to use it as part of the baby shower and let everyone sign it who came.

Yall such a cute arrow and good quality wood.

These arrived in individual bags already assembled. Some of the blades required some final sharpening to get to razor quality and fit a bit loose in the ferrule. This can be fixed by removing blades and slightly tightening the ferrule slots with a slight bit of pressure from plyers.

Once back together they still were true and had no problems getting to fly straight as any other broad head and seem to hold up in testing. Not made of 316 stainless steel as all parts can be picked up with a magnet.

A good value considering. The weight was ~100 grains +/- 2 grains.

I bought a doz, of these to test them out. They came quickly. I took three and tested them with Ceder shafts weight with broadheads 565gr. I shot them into the ground, radial tires, and concrete blocks.

They held up as well as any broadhead I have tested. about 5 diff brands. I think these are wonderful for anyone on a budget and will bring down almost any game.

I’ll give them one thing, they are very sharp Razor blades shaped into arrow heads. THATS ALL THEY ARE they are arrow head shape razor blades!! I dropped one from knee high into a piece of wood!! & the arrow head tip broke off!! OMFG that much money for 1 shot arrow head?! WTH I wasted my money on these :*(.

I love these. It came with 3 of them but I only wanted to use 2 in this Viking Symbol meaning that we create our own reality. Extending to “we choose to respond how we experience life” as a subtle and secret daily reminder, as well as a conversational item in my home.

I like these simple decorations. I do however wish the color was a bit more gray. They’re supposed to be great but but they’re just a bit dull. Luckily I have them hanging in my dining room with pictures that are colorful, so they do compliment it ok.

Arrows came in the mail quickly and were just as pictured. It came with 3 arrows. The description kept saying one arrow. It was deceiving. I was praying it came with three and it did. The brackets were not attached my husband had to put them on but it did come with them.

Very pleased.

I’m usually not one to leave a bad review but on this arrow I feel it is a must. Inconsistent is the word. To get them to somewhat group you have to rotate all to different spots to get them somewhat consistent.

They also wouldn’t bareshaft tune. Definitely not happy with these. Easton dropped the ball on the quality of these sticks.

Fletching color choice is not an option although there are 3 different colors available for each spine, I emailed and was told they ship randomly. I wound up with the 1 of 3 colors I did not want. Fletching color choice should be an option.

Not sure I would buy again without a color option choice.

I’ve shot these arrows ever since switching from the aluminum Easton 2275 shaft. I have made my own arrows for years and the axis arrow has always delivered well when all put together to shoot. I also shoot judo tips at grouse often throughout the season and they even hold up well after hitting dirt and rocks over and over.

Turned out really good. I chose the wrong blue color unfortunately but it was easy enough to paint with my same wall color I already had. Hung with the command strips they recommended and it worked perfectly.

The arrows were packed loose the a box with no packing. I was lucky this time, but this is no way to ship arrows. This would have been 5 stars if not for the packing job. Don’t get me wrong, I like to shop at Academy even though I live in Wa.

Used to live in TX and shopped at Academy all the time. So this is really disappointing.

I always keep a couple of these with a judo tip when I’m out deer hunting in case a squirrel starts barking at me. It doesn’t take expensive arrows to handle that. These fit that bill. I got a dozen a year ago, still have all 12.

I got another dozen this year because why not.

Perfect low cost item. “Straight as an Arrow”!!! Like the female threads for versatility. Put on some safer tips when the kiddies are out with me, Actually helpful when feeding through a hole to locate a cable n the attic or basement!!! Super useful!!! Need to have a few of these low cost useful items around at all times.

Nice. Provides a nice storage for your crossbow. I clear coated mine to insure it lasts.

I have just unwrapped my delivery of a set of 55-60 taped shafts. The promise was within 20gn. Didn’t happen for me. It is +/- 24gn. I know that might seem like just a bit to some. but I already relaxed from 10gn.

Now I’m at 24. Am I spoiled? Absolutely! I put a lot of time into every set I make. Is a promise a promise? Around here it is. I’ll get started and we’ll see how this set turns out, but starting out at 24.

Takes away from some of the other positive attributes. They do seem like decent shafts.

My father, son and myself spent 2 hours in the warehouse with James, talking about each product that was needed and how it would best serve the dimensions of the bow I am planning to hunt with. James was awesome, he was extremely patient with all of the questions that we asked and was more than willing to talk about his experiences afield in addition to products that best served his needs.

I HAVE CARBON,ALUMINUM,AND WOOD ARROWS. THEY ARE ALL EXCELLENT. HOWEVER LETS TALK WOOD. LATELY I’VE BEEN HAVING A RIOT WITH A ENGLISH LONGBOW NAMED”BANDIT” USED IN THE SPIRIT OF THE BANDITS OF SHERWOOD.

BANDIT WAS A STAVE I BOUGHT FROM 3 RIVERS AND FINISHED MYSELF. THIS BOW IS WOOD AND BAMBOO. IS PRIMITIVE AND IT IS FITTING TO USE WOOD ARROWS. I FIND WOOD ARROWS VERY RESILIENT. THEY PARADOX AROUND A LONG BOW EXTREMELY WELL.

WOOD ARROWS ARE TOUGH. THEY TAKE A BETTER SIDE GLANCE THAN CARBON ARROWS. THEY DON’T BEND LIKE ALUMINUM. USUALLY MINE BREAK THE POINT OFF WHEN I HIT A STONE IN THE GROUND. SIMPLY REFIT A NEW POINT. IT MAKES THAT ARROW 1/2 INCH SHORTER.

BIG DEAL IT’S STILL A GOOD ARROW. I’VE BEEN SHOOTING THIS GROUP OF ARROWS FOR APPROXIMATELY SEVEN THOUSAND SHOTS AND STILL GOING. I KEEP A JOURNAL SO I KNOW THIS. THERE IS A GREAT PREDJUDICE THAT MODERN IS BETTER.

IT SIMPLY IS NOT TRUE. IT TOOK ME A LONG TIME REALIZE SIMPLICITY IS GENIOUS AND STUPIDITY IS COMPLICATION. SPLINES ON THESE ARROWS ARE CLOSE. I TEST MINE WITH THE GRAIN AND ACROSS THE GRAIN. I GET DIFFERENT READINGS.

SPLINE IS JUST A APPROXIMATION SO GET IT IN THE 5 LB RANGE AND IT’S GOOD. ALWAYS PUT THE NOCK LINED UP TO THE GRAIN THE SAME WAY ON EACH ARROW. GLUES ADHERE TO WOOD WELL. BOTTOM LINE WOOD IS GOOD. HAVE FUN GARE.
