20 Best Wood For Closets (2022 Updated)

I read the other reviews about how this was hard to put together and the screws and fittings didn’t match. I figured I’d give a go anyway. I got it home and took it out of the box. I had a quick look at the parts and started on my way.

I had it together in 2 minutes while I watched TV. I put it in my entrance where I keep my shoes and had a look at it. It wasn’t level. Then it dawned on me!!! The shelf holes were different on each side piece.

I shook my head and laughed at myself. I took it apart and put it back together. This whole process took 5 minutes. It was the easiest thing I’ve ever bought and put together. It could be about 2 inches wider so three pairs of shoes can sit flat but I can get five shoes on easily with the sixth on its side a bit.

No big deal!! It looks decent and I got it on sale to boot!!.

I bought two shoe racks recently, one from Rubbermaid and this one. The Rubbermaid rack looked more stylish, but, much to my surprise, this one was a lot sturdier! It does not sway when assembled due to the shelf racks’ L-angled back pressing against the wood sides and keeping them square.

Most other shoe racks I’ve seen lack this level of structural forethought and sway side-to-side precariously. However, it was not all good. As some other reviews have mentioned, this product can have assembly issues.

In my case, it was because some of the shelf racks had paint covering the screw threads on their rod ends, preventing the nuts from going on. I had to pick the paint off the threads with an Exacto knife.

Only two out of sixteen rod ends were like this, so it wasn’t too much hassle, but enough for me to dock one star. If many more rod ends were painted over, I would have exchanged it.

I had a very similar product I purchased several years ago and I wanted to add another. This is nearly identical, but I can tell the materials are cheaper and they skipped on the finishing touches. No screw covers and worst of all the edges of the shelves weren’t rounded off === VERY sharp so be cautious when grabbing at your shoes! I suppose you get what you pay for, but I’ve purchased a similar rack of different shape/size by a different manufacturer and the edges were rounded off so I won’t be bleeding all over my wardrobe! I’m keeping it because it what I wanted for storage purposes (specifically the shape/size is the same as my old one), but if this was a new purchase I’d probably send it back purely for safety reasons.

My father-in-law and husband put it together and installed it. They ran into little minor issues, but nothing that they couldn’t figure out. It looks great in the closet and is helping keep my son more organized.

Sturdy, quality, constructed material. I would recommend this product.

Will Update. Have not put it up yet, however, opened it up & nothing damaged & it looks sooo nice. I got the Espresso color & its gorgeous!Update: I absolutely love my closet. Received more wood pieces.

If you are handy just get the middle base and cut the remaining wood for your storage desire. The quality is amazing. Heavy duty (my 4 yr. old climbs the closet). Absolutely gorgeous! You will NOT be disappointed!.

Love that the product is made of wood, unlike others that are made from particle board. The quality of the product speaks for itself and it shows. The finish is very good, with clean and square cuts.

We love that the closet system allows customization to fit different size closets. The reason I only gave 4 stars was because there was some scuffing and denting from the shipping and handling of the product.

Packaging could be improved. Overall great product.

Recently purchased this system in order to transform our master bedroom walk-in closet from bare essential to one with a more “grown-up”, classy look. We were not disappointed in the end result! Do be prepared for this to be pretty much an all day project.

As avid DIY-ers, we’re at a fairly advanced skill level, yet it took a good 7-8 hours to finish. Part of it is deciding on just what layout works best for your needs. (stopping and measuring items of clothing that you want to accommodate, like how wide a space do you really need for long garments) and some of it is the lengthy discussions you have with your spouse on the importance of doing so!! The hardware comes organized in ‘lettered’ bags.

We suggest that you lay them all out in alphabetical order. The first instruction page DOES define what’s in each lettered bag, but the installation instructions themselves only refer to the hardware pieces by size, NOT by the ‘letter’, making it a little confusing.

Not to worry, you’ll get the hang of it. The color is rich (we chose red mahogany), the pieces are solid wood, strong and sturdy. We selected the metal rails vs. the wooded ones as we were concerned about the sliding of hangers marring the wood finish over time.

The only real surprise was with the drawer bottoms. They are not wood but rather a thick, composite of sorts. They are NOT flimsy and are certainly an improvement over the bottoms found in the systems you can purchase from the big box stores.

The bottoms are covered with a nice, soft, black velvet-like fabric. Highly recommend this product line as it appears to a very good value. Now, it does come with only a 1-year warrantly so we’ll be watching to see how it performs and holds up over time.

A couple of comments to the manufacturer: it would be REALLY nice if the system had a shoe rack option. And about those little green ‘inspection’ stickers that are on every piece; they are very, very hard to remove and you have to be careful not to scratch the finish when doing so.

Suggest you use ones which are much more removeable friendly!.

This was a lifesaver. The bedroom is 9 x 11 plus a 9 foot wide closet so very little room for a dresser. I bought several more drawers. It looks professional. Just be careful when assembling as I am not so handy but was able to assemble it.

I’m 55 female and it took me about 2 days to assemble. The drawers took me 2 days too. The holes aren’t pre drilled but I am very happy to have it.

I read previous reviews before I purchased this unit. I thought it would be a Sunday afternoon project. It turned out to be much complicated. Most of it was because how novice I was. Anyway after a week and 4 trips to Lowe’s, it is finally done! We used to have wire system in the closet.

To my surprise, after I took the system off, there were big holes on the wall. So my 1st trip back to Lowe’s, I bought stuff to patch the holes, sandpaper, primer and new paint. Then I found out the new paint didn’t match the old one.

My 2nd trip to Lowe’s, I bought enough new paint to paint the whole closet as well as brushes, roller etc. It took me two days to get the closet ready for the organizer. Then one of the bottom shelf was defect.

They made it upside down. My 3rd trip to Lowe’s to exchange the shelf. When I started to put the drawers together, one of the drawers have a broken piece. Hence my 4th trip to Lowe’s. The final product looks great in the closet.

I would like to give it a 4 star. But since I had 2 defective pieces, I gave it a 3 star. Before I started this project, I determined I would it do myself with minimum help from my husband. After several cuts and bruises on my fingers and legs, and a week of hard work, I finally did it.

My husband said whatever I had learned through this project is useless to me as I probably won’t do it again. But I felt I am one step closer to complete independence through this journey. Never thought putting together a closet would give me such a self realization.

So I give it one more star.

We used this as both a closet organizer and later as a freestanding organizer. All wood construction and assembly was not too complicated. Highly recommended product.

My daughter has an old farmhouse with minimal closets, this clothes rack gave her that additional storage she needed. Great quality, easy to assemble, and holds a lot of weight!

Hi, The closet is beautiful. Unfortunately, I mis-measured and it does not fit in my closet. Fortunately, it’s pretty enough to sit in the room. It was simple to put together, but you have to pay attention to the instructions.

They were easy to install. I didn’t realize that when I ordered it that they were Ventilated. In another words they have spaces between the top shelf. It pays to read the about product. I do wish it was solid, but I ended up using it for another project.

Impressed with the quality. We hung 2 of these in a playroom to get “stuff” from off the floor. Serves its purpose & can handle a good load without the middle sagging. Recommend.

This shelf is perfect for what I wanted. It is attractive, sturdy and I put it up all by myself. I love wayfair!!!!

I absolutely love my closet system. I had my home renovated and getting my closet put in wasn’t in my budget. I looked around at some companies for quotes and to be quite honest, I wasn’t ready to spend 3k on my closet.

I looked around and ran across this system that fit my closet. I also had an additional piece added, and it was the best decision I’ve made when coming to our renovation! In total; I spent less than 400 and I had plenty of room to hang my stuff.

I had a handyman come in and install it for me. At first I was skeptical, and I even hung up only a few things at a time, but after awhile I realized it was going to hold up just fine. If you are on the fence, just do it you won’t regret it.

Be prepared. The assembly directions are not the greatest. This is not an hour job. Plan on an afternoon. The quality is fair. You have to super careful with the panels as the laminate veneer material is quite thin.

As another reviewer noted, if any of the side panels are not flush against a wall and free hanging, they are not very stable. They need to be reinforced. I used L brackets. Once fully assembled, it looks fine; probably a bit Below IKEA level of finish.

I guess you get what you pay for.

I’m about 1/2 pleased with your system, why does it have a setup for TWO RODS to go on each section where you are to install the rods for you to hang your clothes? That is senseless because you CAN NOT hang clothes on BOTH SIDES of the section, there is no room for that.

Also, the technician that came to do my installation was not good at all and he seemed frazzled and unfamiliar with your product. He couldn’t find the parts needed in the shipment and I had to call in and stop the job.

Im in the middle of a major move and still in it that I haven’t even found time to do a return! Everything that can go wrong truly has gone wrong. !!.

Good product. Bought two of these closet systems. This one for my spare room ended up being too long because I measured incorrectly. But with a little brain power and a saw I found a great way to make it fit and maximize storage space.

I love that the poles are adjustable in height. One vertical board ended up being cracked but I have no doubt t that ashley will send a replacement.

It fits my space perfectly. Versitle as well. I can move the shelves and rails for personal preference. Glad i bought this!

I bought this for my new home’s master bedroom closet. It fits perfectly and the closet is of high quality. I like that I can change the configuration of the closet system based on my needs. And the cedar smell is really nice.

I would recommend this product to anyone if you want high quality, sweet smelling, flexible closet system.

Package arrives promptly (within 2 weeks) and is just as described – comes in pieces, but with instructions that are very easy to follow and the closet organizer was up and functional within the day.

Smells great, looks great, beautiful wood. One complaint is that the wood has some oil/stickiness to it and we are nervous to put our clothing on it for fear the oil leaches out and stains. Nice that you can rearrange to fit your needs and totally adjustable for any size!!!.

I have had this for awile now. . Love it! . It is absolutely perfect! . It seems to jave doubled my closet space although we know that is not true!

I bought two of these and assembled all the drawers after unpacking everything. It was easy to do but the instructions were a little lacking. On line videos were helpful to the instructions. Overall excellent organizer for both sides of the walk-in closet.

After the drawers were assembled and slides installed it took me about an hour to get the first one up and only 15 minutes for the second one. I did both by myself. This product really helped our closet and provided so much more space.

After moving into a home we purchased two 10′ units, a 16″ and 12″ configuration for our master and second bedroom closet. The 16″ depth allows you to hang clothes perpendicular with to the wall as well allows for larger size boxes, luggage to be stored on the top of the unit.

We used the 12″ racks due the room configuration in the second bedroom and there is a slight a slight angle to hang the same size clothes hanger. Recommend you check the depth needed to accommodate your needs.

What we learned: Anyone with moderate experience carpentry skills can easily accomplish installation. We had to custom cut the racks to fit our less than 8′ closets so a good chop saw was needed. Bit extender for your drill, stud finder, regular and framing level to plumb.

Instructions were good with some scratch you head areas but overall great. Found out quickly to be exact when hanging j-hooks and shelf end hangers to keep everything true. To illustrate: Screwing in hangers or j-hooks pre punch the wallboard to center the screw to the wall or pre-drill if installing shelf end hangers to the wood unit.

As well, wall anchors where there are no studs. take your time setting the anchor to perfectly center the j-hook bracket holes. When setting the screw, ensure you center and countersink the screw into the hanger or bracket holes Slight offset variations with cause your level marks to be off the bubble.

Measure three times then check again and you will have a perfect fit. Count on 4 hours to complete.

I really like this closet set up! I have small rooms and closets in my house, so this is truly great. It was fairly easy to put together, despite the terrible directions. I had to use my woodworking and metalworking knowledge together, as well as deductive reasoning.

All the pieces arrived with no damage.
