20 Best Wood For Framing (2022 Updated)

This frame is perfect for the photo. I had such a hard time finding a 10×10 frame. I came across this one online and got excited! The color matches the photo perfectly. Thank you

This is the 2nd frame I’ve ordered from here. Even ordered at different times, the 2 blues matched perfectly. The quality of the frames is wonderful- beyond expectations!! The packaging was great as frames arrived in perfect shape.

I have finally found a perfect frame. All the specifications I was looking for are in this frame. The moulding around was just the right size, not too wide and the front was glass not plastic. Nicely made.

I just wish they also make this in size 13×13 which is hard to find.

The Ampersand Black Floater Frames are wonderful. My canvases fit nicely into them with great support on all four sides and especially supported in the back. I use only black frames for many of my exhibits and these fit in quite well.

I only wish you have them in much larger sizes.

The frame had a sturdy, well made construction with a smooth, high quality paint finish. The back has pre drilled screw holes and Ampersand provides a tool to mark the canvas position. It came with clear, illustrated instructions, all the hardware for mounting and hanging and was very easy to mount my canvas.

I am very pleased with this excellent product. Perfect for juried shows. Teri Banas.

While from a distance this frame is *fine* it is absolute junk and certainly not worth $10 let alone the $40 paid. The frame is meh mdf with a wood grain STICKER and a plastic instead of glass insert.

The hanging kit is DIY and just ok. I wish I had had the energy to return it. Was excited about American made, but this is pure garbage.

This BBQ is exactly as pictured. I bought this because I don’t have the funds to spend on the $200 grill that I really want, but I missed the tasted of grilled food. This is perfect! the quality is great, for the money.

you just fold down the legs, the charcoal pan lowers down, and it’s ready to go! This is a great substitute, for a more expensive grill. I use it in a household of 5 adults, and it cooks plenty of food.

Remove the grill grate, and you can lay kebab or shashlik skewers across, and cook authentic Middle Eastern, Russian, European style BBQ. After I buy my fancy Weber BBQ, this will be great for camping, picnics, day at the beach, fishing, or tailgating.

for what I paid. this is an excellent deal that adds up to 5 stars.

The wood looks nice, but the acrylic is cut too small so that it doesn’t fit into the frame properly. When you go to hang the frame, the thin piece of wood bows out slightly under the weight of the rest of the frame, and the acrylic slides down enough that you can see the edge of it sticking out of the frame.

It’s not so noticeable that it’s worth returning, but I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone. The quality is very poor for the cost.

Pros – versatile. Can take a flat panel, ¾ stretched canvas, or paper and mat with equal ease. Sturdy backer board with nice professional black outer surface. Super easy to install any depth artwork with the strong clips.

Deep profile looks substantial on the wall. Simple, modern look. Good quality wood, accurate, square construction. Price is reasonable. Haven’t used the plexi so can’t comment on that. Cons – These are not finger joined as stated in the description and on the packaging that the frames came in.

Corners are held with standard metal staple-type joinery. This would not bother me that much except that it was advertised and labeled as something different. Normally I’m also not bothered if colors don’t match what is on screen because that’s practically impossible.

But in this case, the gold color is not anything close to what is shown. It’s orange. Not even copper-orange. Just orange. I bought three frames, two different sizes, and all three are the exact same shade of orange.

I will have to spray paint them gold to be able to use them. I’d by these frames again because of the good features listed above, but not in gold. Hopefully the incorrect information will get corrected.

Nicely made wood frames that come complete with hanging hardware and plexiglass, at a very reasonable price! Easy to use and they look very professional. I will be ordering more in the future for sure.

They arrived well packaged and had no damage. My only gripe is that the little bag of tiny screws and hanging hardware frequently had holes in them, so it was difficult not to lose any screws when unwrapping the frames.

Those little bags should be taped to the back of the frame rather than fastened with the sharp-edged swivel springs that fasten the backing board to the frame.

I purchased this set to frame some vintage prints. The frames are solid pine and well made, but have some lower grade character (i. e. inconsistent grain, some knots, etc. ) you have to take a gamble with, especially if purchasing online.

I find that the character if the wood distracts from the artwork itself — I wish it was birch or maple. It’s well sanded/finished smoothly and far better structurally than the flimsy particle board / stapled frames you’d find in big box chains.

The included hardware is solid too. I’m team glass > acrylic glazing — I wish glass was still standard! Since I ordered these on sale, I bit the bullet for the extra cost of real glazing. For next time, I’d recommend one of the painted or stained options over the natural finish.

While these were packaged well, I was disappointed to find a three-inch crack in the vinyl after carefully peeling back the protective seal. I waited for a long time for these to arrive and ended up just throwing the vinyl away and using the frame only.

If it hadn’t taken so long for them to arrive, I would have returned or exchanged.

Received what I expected even earlier than I was told. Thought these were a bit expensive for the quality, but they do the job.

Shipped very securely! I love the sturdy construction of this and the fact it’s acrylic and not glass is a plus. Still 100% transparent as glass. Less caution needed for fragility and of course stronger than a glass sheet.

The acrylic sheet comes with both sides in a protective plastic covering you peel off before use. 100% brand new, clean, and smudge free. The foam back board is excellent and sturdy. Not just a cheap white backing sheet as in most frames.

Used to frame a shirt. The pressure between the backboard and the acrylic holds it in place just fine. No glue or anything needed. Comes with its own hardware to set up yourself to hang however you please.

It was exactly the size as described. It came well packaged and shipping was fast. I did at first think it was a bit scratched up but it was only the layering on top protecting the actual frame. After removing the strip covering it was clean and clear.

Would totally recommend if you need something in this size. This was the cheapest frame I could manage to find online and I think it was worth the price.

Overpriced frame with no way to hang on a wall – the wall mounting bracket was literally taped with masking tape to the back of the frame. It’s hard to find a 6×9 frame during lock-down so I settled for this, at least it arrived intact unlike the last one I ordered which arrived with giant gouges on the front of the frame.

If you have no other choice, this will do, but $20 for something that doesn’t even have a mounting bracket is pretty unacceptable.

This is by far the best looking frame they have currently. The only issue is that the largest size they offer is 16 x 20 and I would like this in a 18 x 24 to be offered. It still has one of te same issues many other frames at Michaels has which is that it doesnt allow space for a mat or double mat and still be able to slide the back fasteners in place.

I would rather have to fill space than try to mash it in enough to secure the backboard. I will definitely buy more of this frame style but would like to see this issue fixed by the supplier.

The frame is beautiful. However, it arrived scratched. The back fasteners don’t completely close. They’re either too tight and won’t rotate, or too loose. The backing doesn’t seem to fit quite right, there is a little bit of movement back and forth that it was really hard to center my artwork and get it to stay put.

I bought the 11×14 mat and I couldn’t get it centered because of the movement. Overall, I’m disappointed. The wood is high quality and it looks great.

We love the look of this frame, and it is nice quality. The only problem is that it does not accommodate a double mat. One it’s in, the little tabs that keep the back on will not go into their slots.

We had to tape the whole back piece on rather than use the tabs, but we thought it was worth it since the frame looks so nice.

I was looking for a light frame that was not so stark and cold as an opaque white frame, and these are perfect. The wood grain is subtle and the whitewash finish is warm in tone and has a nice smooth finish.

My only reason for giving the product 4 stars is that one in 5 or so have drip marks on the edges where the whitewash flowed over from the top. It doesn’t make a thick, raised drip, but still mars the professional look.

The frame is cheaply made. The pictures do not show that the mat is secured by what appears to be a thin piece of styrofoam, such that if you have a document/picture smaller than 11 x 14 that you want to show in the 8 x 10 opening, you have to use the piece of paper that comes inside to secure your document or picture to.

The frames I received were damaged. Instead of using picture frame corner protectors that fold into the flap and can easily be removed, Michael’s uses picture frame corner protectors that are stapled to the back of the frame itself with heavy duty staples.

By doing this, if the buyer pulls too hard on it to remove the staple and frame protector, damage will be caused to the back of the frame. When returning in store, the employees said that the receipt (the packing slip) could not be pulled up and tried to do the return as a non-receipted return, thus requiring a driver’s license, which I refused.

Eventually, they were able to find the product, process the return and refund me my purchase price BUT would (or could) “oversized item” shipping fee that Michael’s charges.

The depth of this frame is very nice and the wood quality is okay. The styrene face on the frame is so flimsy it falls through the front of the frame. It also gets blemished easily and will not look good after one cleaning.

Real Plexiglass would make this a very nice frame. If you are framing canvases that don’t need glass this is also a decent frame. Not a good price to have to also buy new glass or plexi for the product.

Would also have preferred better hanging hardware for the larger size I purchased. Comes with a sawtooth hanger on back, which is ok for small pieces, not for larger ones.

I like the clean, professional look of these wood frames. However, the clips on the back are not situated properly for 3/4th inch width stretched studio canvases. Actually, it is the grooves that the clips go into.

They are located for 1″ width canvases or canvas boards. If I use Blick studio canvases (3/4th inch width), there is too much room between the canvas and the rim in the front of the frame. They frames used to come with longer clips in the back which worked better.

I made an oil painting on a large 36 x 24 canvas that is 1 and 1/2 inches deep that I wanted to frame. I chose the white wood gallery frame from Blick to try for my painting. I was uncertain if the frame would fit especially considering the depth of the canvas.

I am so happy with the results. The frame comes with a backing that has small brackets around it to secure it to the frame, but my canvas was too thick to allow the backing to fit. It turned out fine because the canvas fits firmly in the frame without any need of the backing piece.

Also, I debated whether to use the plastic window on the front and decided against using it because of the glare. But none of this matters so much because the painting looks beautiful in the simple white frame.

I have ordered these same frames in the past from Blick and didn’t say much about my previous orders, but felt I needed to this time, especially since this particular product has gone up in price. These are a product made in Mexico, as the wooden frame is stamped with that.

I have to take extra time to sand off that “Made in Mexico” dark blue and/or black stamp and sometimes the color has seeped into the wood so much that I cannot get it out. Many of them have chipped corners and dented sides that I also have to sand out before I can use them and sometimes I am not successful in doing that.

When the paper protection is stapled to each corner or each frame, the staples are so embedded at times, that I cannot sand out the staple holes. It just seems that I spend more time repairing and cleaning up these frames from their processing and shipping than I do staining and painting them for my art projects.

I just want to bring all this to your attention so that you can perhaps notify your supplier of the problems so that maybe they can find options or better treatment of these frames in their processing and/or shipping to you.

This worked well for a last minute framing option. I was a bit disappointed with how it was packaged; the corners only had paper covering them and that did nothing from keeping the corners from getting chipped during shipping.

I ended up painting these with a custom color with I liked since I didn’t want a standard black or white frame. I would love to see more unfinished framing options offered.

I have been using these frames for years for my beach-y art. The quality is usually fairly consistent. This last batch had a couple that were off in measurement out of the 12 I ordered. I called Blick and they immediately sent out replacements.

The replacements are good. Thank you for the prompt, kind customer service. The only thing I may add that could use improvement- like others have said- I wish the paper corners were not stapled as they always leave dents and are a pain.

I could do without the stamp on the back. I would also LOVE more sizes!! Thanks again!.

I wanted to take a step above the typical mail-order frames (of which I’ve tried several) for a (then upcoming) December gallery display. These are several steps above ANY of those frames I’ve bought in the past.

Clean looking, deep enough for the mounted photographs, 8-ply overmat, and light. The plexiglass lights are well protected. And the unique inside supporting framework make for a solid mounted frame.

The quality was good, but had several nicks in the paint that I had to cover up myself. Also, I would have preferred a complete kit with plexi and mat.

We’d love some different color options perhaps more raw woodgrain options similar to the maple but dark or light. Other than that excellent quality!
