20 Best Wood For Gate (2022 Updated)

I was sent this gate for review a few weeks ago. While the gate was well made and matched well with my home’s decor, installation was a tad difficult. Definitely not a one person job. We have three dogs and a daughter who is crawling.

In the past we have had issues with gates not staying up or causing damage to our walls. So far this gate has held up very well and no damage even after accidental bumps and movement from one doorway to another.

We love the walkthrough. Also another feature that is much appreciated is the latching system. Much easier to use than previous ones we have purchased. We as a family would definitely recommend this gate, just make sure you have an installation partner.

And if you configure them correctly with the addon panels, you can have a nice walk through for a cat. I’ve spent hundreds on flimsy gates. I have a 30lb pug mix that is like a freight train. He demolishes anything he rams into and he’s known to escape everything.

These are houdini proof. AND they look amazing. Well worth the price. STURDY as heck.

Finally found a pressure gate that fits the small opening! We have a half wall splitting our kitchen from the living room. I’ve had a hard time finding a gate that would fit. I originally only could find one I had to attach to the wall and I hated it because my daughter would hang off of it and eventually would keep pulling it out of the wall.

I wish I would have found this one instead. It also looks very nice and was so very easy to put up.

I won’t bother to send a picture with this review because my gate looks exactly like the other two reviews which cite a manufacturing defect, i. e. gate is bent so the door cannot close. The materials look fine – it’s a nice looking gate.

Because this seems to be more than a one-off problem, I chose a refund instead of a replacement. Chewy customer service was great – I just clicked on the 24/7 help and got an online chat. They immediately sent me a shipping label via email for the return.

The Cedar Wood fence panels are very nice looking, smooth and ready to paint. You can tell a lot of detail went into them. They really thought of everything to make it easy for the homeowner to put up a fence quickly.

This fence is only 34 inches high, so it’s less than waist high, but makes a beautiful backdrop for your flower garden. It is easy to install with the no dig posts. There are metal loops that are attached to the wooden fence that you use to attach the posts to.

Very easy to put together. The wood is ready to paint and clearly put together strongly. You can see fasteners on each plank in 4 places top and bottom, so 8 all together. The wood is mostly all smooth, with very little edges, so it’s ready to paint or stain with little prep work.

The hardware is powder coated steel and the fence has a one year warranty, which is nice to have. I will be looking for more from this brand, because I’m thinking that it looks so nice, that I may have to add some more fencing in places.

Pros: Sturdy, ready to stain, smooth, easy to install Cons: none so far.

I have been looking for fencing in my yard and this is perfect! The fence panel was easy to install and very well made. I have used other panels before and they were cheaply made and within a couple seasons were looking horrible but I think because this is made better it will stand up to the seasons better and need less maintaining.

Installing the panel was easy. Now I wish I had used this from the start for all my fencing. I will use this fencing again for sure. I like the finish of the panel it is smooth and not a bunch of splinters around the edges.

Overall a nice addition to my yard.

The panels were installed with the matching gate. Very simple install design. With the included hardware, installation was quick and simple. Works and looks good. If the ground is too soft or the stakes do not give enough support, you can use longer stakes or something equivalent so it is deeper in the ground.

Overall, happy with the design and functionality.

Great product. I spray painted them with rust paint once installed to match the fence colour better. Gets you extra years out of a fence post that’s starting to rot at ground level but where the rest of the fence is in decent shape.

Be prepared for some hard pounding if you’ve got posts set in concrete. I used a 4lb hammer. I also had to break some of the concrete along the side of the post since the product is a little wider than a standard 4 by 4 post.

The foot of product in angled but I was getting some binding on some posts where the concrete was very tight to the post. Make sure you read the instructions and start the product at the suggested angle – it should straighten as you pound unless the post is rotten and the foot digs into the post.

In this case I dug to where the concrete meets the post.

The Simson E-Z mender Fence repair plates are very well made and extremely tough. Make sure to drive in the plates on the side of the broken post, not the back and front position. The movement of a fence from the wind, is mainly restricted to the back and forward motion, and this action will try to pull out the plates again if the plates are driven in at the back and front.

By driving the plates in at the side, the concrete is undisturbed in the sideways movement, which is of course, the back and forward movement of the fence. Use two plates even though they are sold separately.

Once installed the fence will be rock solid and ready for the next big blow. Hammering in the plates is noisy so make sure to wear ear defenders, or your ears will be ringing for a week.

My fence is very old and the planks are barely hanging together, generally. Yearly repairs/reinforcement on the beams and planks keep it functional. But this is the first post (and the one untreated post) to rot out – it was completely severed about two inches below grade.

This was an easy and cheap fix for a fence that is nearing the end of its life. Was easy to hammer in with a 2-pound “sledge” hammer as there was no concrete. I was so happy to have this easy repair.

It’s a good gate–wide enough to block the stairway from my front yard up to the street. I ended up buying two and putting the second one on top of the first (using zip ties), because my dog could jump over just one.

I have it zip-tied to the railing/fence on one side, and then spread across the opening, so when we go for walks, I can fold the gate (well, now gates) to let us out. Minor irritation is that the little cat door comes open from time to time–it doesn’t seem to be able to be fully secured–but it’s too small for the dog to escape, so it’s not a big deal.

We purchased this gate (actually we bought another one too we liked it so much) to keep our two small dogs out of certain areas. It’s lightweight and easy to move when we want to go through or into a room.

The double hinges make it extra easy to go in and out any direction. I know they picture it with a big dog in their ad, but I’m not sure it would have held our golden retirever, I think she would have knocked it over.

So I’d definitely recomnend it for small dogs but I’m not sure about it for bigger dogs, it would depend on temperment and/or breed. It’s nice looking and works great!.

Ease of ordering process and quick shipping. The gate is so convenient and easy for me to use at anytime. Our two dogs can see through the gate, so they can still see what’s going on. Nosy little girls! Haha.

This is good for toy sized dogs. I have a little Shih Tzu/Pomeranian mix. She can go through most of the pet gats with vertical slats or bars, but not this gate. Because she is still a pup in training I need to limit where she goes in the house and this works very well when my attention needs to be on other things.

The one down side two this gate, though, is that the latching clip on the tension bar is far too tight, so it is difficult to release. If someone has issues with pain in their hands, such as arthritis, it might be a real problem and this product might not work so well for them.

As it is, without any issues with my hands it is very annoying; hence the three stars. I accept it because there aren’t many gates that would work for my dog. I’m hoping its will loosen up with use over time, butt the way it is designed I’m not sure that it will.

My other gates I have that work in a similar way never had this issue – it’s a bad U-clip design on this one.

Love these Bamboo Poles, ordered 2 as a test and have now ordered 6 more rolls. The 1 Inch diameter pole description is very inconsistent from batch to batch. The first 4 rolls I ordered had majority 1 inch and the rest were quite smaller.

This last batch were a much better quality and more consistent with 99% being 1-inch. Not sure who is doing the quality control but it needs to be better managed. If I had known before, I would have returned the first 4 rolls, given that these new rolls are MUCH thicker and there are more of them.

Overall. I think this is a good value, they look great and I’ll continue to order as long as the quality remains consistent.

I ordered two of these rolls, but I plan to return one of them. When I opened the first roll and placed it on my balcony, I was surprised by the low quality of the bamboo. The pieces are not uniform- some are quite thin and some are thick.

Some of the bamboo is curved instead of straight. The bamboo itself looks to be of a low quality. I am very disappointed. I am not even putting a protective coating on the screen because it doesn’t seem worth it.

I don’t know if the other screen is better- I haven’t opened it. Just a warning to others that this bamboo screen isn’t that great (in my opinion), contrary to what other reviewers have written. Not horrible, but not something I would recommend or buy again.

Works great for our balcony!! Only giving 4 stars because it has quite a few sharp pieces that splinter out AND I also had to pull a bunch of random loose metal threading that was caught in parts of the bamboo, no idea where that would have come from.

For the price though you cannot beat it! We love it, looks so good!.

We needed something to keep the rabbits out of the garden. Worked well. Some of the boards are not exactly even so when placed together it didn’t create a perfect square. We made it work though

I ordered two of these. It took a couple of months or so, but my dogs destroyed both, mostly by chewing. I was unable to find anything else that would span my hallway, but have a permanent fix in mind, so I ordered two replacements to tied me over, hoping they would last at least as long.

They did not. One of them is ok, but the other snapped right off where the side bar attached to the grid, and thus is completely unusable. The product is not made with the strength or durability to withstand normal puppy behavior.

I contacted PETCO and I was advised that they are simply a re-seller, but they would forward my concerns to the manufacturer and I should expect a reply from them. It’s been a couple of weeks now, and nothing.

Very disappointed both at the product and with the customer service.

This gate is EXACTLY as described and PERFECT for keeping the puppy DOWNstairs and the 16 year old cat UPstairs until they can learn to tolerate each other. ha ha It is well built and easy to manipulate one-handed.

The 3-section plastic hand slide on the top of the gate is a safety feature to keep fingers from being pinched. We looked in every pet store nearby and couldn’t find what we wanted. Thankfully, we DID find it online and at a Hayneedle store, from which I have previously purchased and was satisfied THEN, too.

Shipping was fast and item received in perfect condition.

Put one up to keep the dogs out of the kitchen while we fixed meals. Worked so well, I ordered another one for the living room to keep them away from the tree and presents. The rail across the top keeps it sturdy even when stretched to the limit.

Instructions were clear. Installation was straightforward — four eye screws. The top catch is a bit tricky to use. Wish that were designed better. Can’t imagine doing it with a toddler on my hip as the photo shows.

Gate is easy to disconnect and stow away when you no longer need it.

I have purchased many wonderful products from Orvis over the years, but I have struggled with these gates with the doors. I have two new puppies and have invested a small fortune in various baby and pet gates including two of these.

The bottom rail of the door of my first gate has been split from the day I got it. I didn’t notice it until after I had set it up so I can’t say whether it came that way. If it didn’t come that way, I must say it’s pretty fragile as I was quite careful with it.

I used duct tape to secure the split, but it’s always been unsteady. The second gate fell over once, and the distance now between the latch and the side panel is too far to securely close. I’ve checked all of the hinges, etc.

, to see if anything was bent or needed tightening, and it seems to be in order. Bottom line, this gate is too fragile for me. I also purchased two of the four-panel matching gates, and they’re great.

If you don’t care about a door being in the middle, either end panel of the four-panel gate will pivot easily enough to swing open and close for passage (there are rubber feet so no floor scratches).

Honestly, it’s easier than operating the latch on the door. If you’re deciding which gate to buy, I hope this helps. The four-panel gate is solid.

I’m using this in a short hallway to block my kitty from escaping to the foyer. The lock for the gate is so easy to use with one hand. This gate is also very easy to move to another location when needed with no ugly holes in the walls.

Well made and worth the price.

this is the second gate i’ve purchased. the first one is white and i use that in my kitchen. the second is dark wood and that’s in my dining room. i love the way they look and are so functional. the gate swings either way and it’s easy to fold them up for when i’m cleaning the floor.

they’re well made and i receive many compliments on them.

We have used this gate for several years to confine our yorkiepoo and shihtzu to the non-carpeted area in our travel trailer when we are not with them. It can be shaped into a confinement space in the kitchen and when we aren’t using it in the camper we use it in our house in the main entryway mostly to prevent visiting pups from being accidently let out the door.

Love the quality and ease of use. And I don’t trip getting over it with my short legs!.

The five panel gate met its nine week old Husky puppy user and the gate won, but the pup got his licks in. This pup had previously beaten the efforts of another gate by climbing over. This gate, so far, has not been defeated BUT it just might be because of some construction shortcuts, We also have two adult dogs and two cats who can jump over it with no problem which is what we wanted.

Problem is that one of the adult dogs hit the gate on a jump and one of the top rails separated slightly from the side rail. It is only a round pin and hole mating. It was knocked loose. It went right back together but a dab of wood glue, had it been used in the construction, would have prevented the problem.

Another thing, not noted in the info posted for the gate is that the package contains metal reinforcing brackets and mounting screws which you bend to fit the gate configuration you need. This is fine if you will always be using one shape but in our use, we have a daytime and a nighttime configuration.

It is very easy to lift the gate and reconfigure it for use in another area but we can not use these reinforcing brackets or else we are stuck with only one configuration. For us that is not a problem but for others it may limit the gates usefulness.

Overall we can recommend this gate for use with smaller puppies but for adult dogs it would be questionable. Hence a Four star rating. You will have to see if your use fits with the gates height and construction.

I have ordered from Chewy’s several times and have never been disappointed. This gate was the worst thing I have ordered by far. It literally fell apart taking it out of the box. Tried to return with no luck at all.

We tried glueing it but the workmanship was just garbage. The slots don’t line up at all and the wood was rough and unfinished. It is now firewood for our fireplace. I DON’T recommend this gate to anyone !!!.

1. Aesthetically pleasing. I ordered white. 2. Quality manufacturing. 3. Substantial weight and height to keep a Standard Poodle “corralled”. 😉

This gate did the trick to keep our kitty cat from accessing our second floor at night. She is young and energetic, but she could not jump over the top (nice and high) nor could she dislodge the gate from its position due to its solid construction and weight.

Finish is nice, oak stain, simple and clean lines. Excellent!.

I ordered this gate last week to keep my one year old from going up the flight of stairs. It’s the perfect size and I love that I don’t need to mount it to the walls. It arrived fairly quickly but I was completely disappointed when I set it up for the first time.

The gate is broken in multiple locations and is an overall example of poor craftsmanship. There are gaps in areas where the posts and frame are supposed to align exposing the raw unpainted wood. I called customer service and because of the cost of the item they will not ship out a replacement (which I really need to help keep my daughter safe) until they see that I have dropped the broken gate off at fedex or they have picked it up from my home.

This can come in great use! Fully Recommend! It’s always nice to have it just incase you really need to use it. Great way to train Pets to stay away from certain areas!

This worked great for my dogs. I first got it for training reasons but now we use it for when i want to open my door. My dogs will lay and look outside. I never worry now that they run outside alone.

These work great. whether it’s short term or long term that you want to block off a room, these gaits are easy to place and use and really work, at least for small dogs

he Cedar Wood Panel Gate was perfect for the project we were working on. Our family adopted a new puppy and we wanted a place for her to run when we took her outside. We live on three acres of land and it is impossible for us to fence the entire property.

I needed a nice section in our backyard where the puppy and our children could go and it would look nice around the kids play structure. We chose this fencing because it has a modern, sleek look. The fencing works great for what we needed and it was very easy to install.

I was really impressed with the ‘how-to’ directions listed on the fence panel. The panels are durable and we plan on staining them within a few weeks.

This is a stylish, high-end cedar fence gate that is easy to install with well written instructions. The fence gate is rot resistance which means it will last longer. The gate swings open with ease. The gate makes your home’s outside look brilliant.

I love that the gate is light weight and one person job. The gate is amazing and I recommend it.

This is a well-designed baby safety gate which will fit many different widths. It isn’t tall, and is specifically intended for babies and young toddlers. I like the fact that it doesn’t have a bar at floor level – I constantly trip on other gates with that have this.

The hinge and catch is extremely easy to install, and while detiled measruements for heights are given, I would recommend using your own judgement. The written instructions are occasionally a bit vague, but if you simply put the gate together to the desired width then hold it against the space you want it in, you’ll quickly see how it all works.

Lastly, if a space falls between the pre-drilled holes in size, it’s simple to use four screws to fix it at your preferred width.

I’ve been looking for a stainless steel case, mid size, fair price field watch for some time until i found out about this Lorus which among the fact that had all the characteristics i was looking for also has this full luminous dial which allows you to read time time at night fairly easy, the lume lasts for the whole night even if it sits in daylight for just 1 or 2 hours only.

The only drawback is the strap which is not of a too good quality, I swapped it for a similar NATO which feels way better on the wrist.

Installed easily and is very light. Can be painted/varnished to suit your deco, which was a factor we had in buying. I’m not impressed with the hinge mechanism as it feels flimsy. The locking switch is a plastic button and I don’t feel it will last longer than a year.

I think that my kids will figure out how to unlatch the lock fairly soon and then the gate will be useless, but we shall see.
