While this is marketed strongly as mantel, I live in an old house with high ceilings making this a very nice looking shelf. The unit is “Over built”, a piece of quality furniture, it is a very sturdy and well thought out unit, there are three options for the “Look” but the full option, all included, also strengthens the shelf vertically (No sag under heavy weight to the front) with the corbels and back arch between them.

Having options are nice. If you need a mantel, it is a very nice and easy solution, if you need an expensive shelf to show off some heavy items. This is perfect. Mine will have an old 1800’s clock and I absolutely trust this shelf to hold it.

I got the 72″ taos finish that looks lightly distressed. I really like this color and it goes well with my new flooring! That was pure luck because I cannot coordinate colors. Mounting was easy enough, even for me and I am no handyman.

I usually do more damage than good, but I managed to get this project done. I will outline how I did it, though there are likely better ways to do so.

I took a leap of faith based on customer reviews with most being positive than negative. The box was delivered crushed and the inside looked as if I was sent someone else’s return. The mantle top had chipped paint in three places but was pretty small but still noticeable.

I thought I could use a touch up stick but one was not provided. The color is Not country white as advertised and the legs are definitely a different shade than the mantle top. It will need to be repainted because the legs are definitely not the same shade as the top.

The legs look beige and the top looks like a dirty yellowish color. Now that I got that out of the way, it is a beautiful piece and I do love it! I will probably return it and exchange it and hope the second one is quality checked before and after packaging.

I am pretty critical when it comes to quality and craftsmanship so this definitely warrants a second chance! I really want to give this 5 stars.

Almost exactly what I needed, had to add an extra board to the base to get the right height. Super pleased with the product though. It was unfinished wood and already pretty well sanded and ready to prime and paint.

A much quicker, easier and probably cheaper solution to making it from scratch myself.

Needed to get a fireplace mantel to protect Sonos Sound Bar and 4K TV over the gas fireplace. Really nice design for mounting, including a solid metal mounting bar, giving you lots of options for screws to insure it’s in a stud.

The finish makes these look like a high end wood mantel, but they are made of concrete composite to block heat from getting to the sound bar and TV. Took about 10 minutes total to mount. Because it’s a hollow core, the mantel weighs around 40 lbs, not as heavy as other models.

I purchased the 48 inch white mantle shelf, which arrived before the expected delivery date, and in good condition! I’d give it a 5 star rating, however, as other reviewers have stated, the mounting board (or pine cleat) does not properly keep the shelf flush against the wall.

We mounted ours on a flat wall, not above a fireplace, in our Great Room. My husband tried sanding and planing the mounting board, but it still dips forward, causing the shelf to lean down in the front.

He has tried putting shims on the bottom of the shelf, but that hasn’t leveled it, either. So, we’re still trying to figure it out. However, it’s a beautiful piece, which appears to be fully finished (painted), even though the description states it is only primed.

One thing for potential buyers to be aware of, though, is the weight. I couldn’t find the weight listed anywhere in the description or specifications. We weighed it on our home bathroom scale, and it was over 20 lbs.

It’s VERY HEAVY!! With that said, you MUST mount it in the studs, if hanging on drywall. We used 2. 5 inch screws, which are not supplied (no screws are supplied with the mantle purchase). We hope to figure out how to get the shelf to hang level, which would bump my rating up from 4 to 5 stars!.

I’m overall happy with the mantle. For the high price point I would have like the color to be closer to the example picture. It’s lighter and I expected more of a variation of black. One thing that bothers me is there is a paint spot on the front that is distracting.

I’m going to keep it because of the long shipping time. It is a very nice piece overall. Please excuse the mess we haven’t started hanging just yet.

Looks like they did a rush job on building this mantel. It looks fine at a distance, but you can easily see the wood is only stained and isn’t even varnished, so it would collect dust very quickly! The way it mounts (I hired a handyman to mount it) is not logical because now there are large 1/4 inch drill holes at the top that he has to fill, stain and varnish the whole thing together.

He read the directions and had no other way to mount it. There are also nail holes that did not get filled in when it was built. The color is a bit darker than it looked online, where you can see the grain of wood easier, but it’s passable.

The product was shipped to me on time.

I am really not happy with the build quality of this mantel. I could have built this myself. Save your money. They expect you to mount this to your wall with just a 2×4. The stain is sloppy. It has dark spots in some parts, but you can still see the wood in others.

It also came a little cracked on the inside. Really, don’t buy it. Look elswhere.

I got two barn doors from Dogberry and they look great. They are 100% real wood. No pressboard or anything. I also purchased the hardware from them which was much more beefy and sturdy than other hardware I have seen and it was less money.

Everyone at Dogberry was very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend them and I will definitely use them again.
