20 Best Wood Knitting Needles (2022 Updated)

1. Clover Takumi Bamboo Circular Knitting Needles: I prefer to use Clover Bamboo Needles for almost every yarn. I am knitting a shawl now and need the longest circular needle that I can find: the Bamboo circular needles come in lengths up to 48 inches.

However, I have yet to find the 48” in a Michaels store, and even the 29” and 36” maybe out of stock. Also, no way can one find all the possible needle sizes in any of the lengths! May I suggest that the clerks at checkout have the authority to order for either home delivery or store pickup when a customer says there is no needed stock on the shelves.

2. Can’t Michaels manage to price the set of the needles at less that such a huge price?.

The price was a bit steep but these bamboo flex knitting needles were what I wanted. The price for Clover Takumi knitting items are always just a bit high because of the good quality of the workmanship & materials.

But they’re much less expensive than the really high dollar knitting tools. I wanted bamboo knitting needles because they’re not noisy like the metal ones & I wanted the flex needles because I can sit in an airline seat & comfortably knit without encroaching on the other passengers’ space.

They are also easy to stow away in a small soft bag because you can wrap them around a skein of yarn. No long, rigid needles to make you carry them in a larger bag. The Clover Takumi interchangeable circular knitting needles set & the individual flex needles are really easy to travel with.

They all store in small cases, making it convenient for me to take my knitting with me wherever I go. Overall, I’m pleased with this purchase.

I love bamboo. I love circular needles. Together they make an awesome duo. Bamboo is sleek makes it easy to work with. They are easy to use so very beginners can use them. They hold all your stitches so you don’t have to worry about dropping stitches.

They are light and easy to hold even if you have a big project. The stitching is neat and even. I have used plastic circulars and aluminum and my first choice will always be bamboo. Love at first use.

I needed extra large knitting needles for the blanket I was making out of super thick yarn. All I could find in my local stores were regular length straight needles and circular needles; none that would fit the dimensions of the blanket without over crowding and falling off.

This set was perfect! 47″ was more than enough to hold the entire 48″ blanket with room to spare. Plus,I could use it back and forth without the need for a second extra long needle. 2 straight needles would have been very difficult to work with, store, and travel with.

They are made of high quality materials and are very sturdy. Additionally,I received my package in 2 days, allowing me to start my project right away! I couldn’t be happier.

Great product. I bought several (4 total, different large needle sizes) and all have been wonderful, no problems and very sturdy, durable. Have completed multiple projects and still like new! I am a frugal shopper as well so I have looked at tons of websites for these specific large and long circular needles.

This site cannot beat others prices, shipping included. Other websites needles were pricey and did not look to be of as good quality!.

I am using these circular needles to make my mittens. The wood tips are excellent for this extra fine yarn, as the stitches don’t accidentally slide off from the needles. The metal needles were too smooth and slippery.

Also, these needles have the smoothest transition from the flexible portion onto the fixed needle. Some needles have a seam there that can catch or drag the yarn when using the magic loop technique.

It’s the most adorable circular needle you can imagine! I used my old one for several years and was a bit hesitant to order a new one at first. I previously ordered several more Lykke needles, straight and circulars, and am totally in love with them.

So I decided to give this shortie a try. My order shipped the next day and arrived fast. Packaging was great, so the needle arrived in perfect condition. I now use it almost every day and really love it.

Totally recommend if you need a 12″ circular needle.

My experience ordering from Pitanga Yarns (twice now) has been good. Usable website, prompt delivery. The little crocheted hearts that come with each order are a sweet touch but I wish you would stop doing that.

I have no use for them and end up disposing of them. I feel awful doing that because it’s a wasteful thing to do, and it’s disrespectful of someone’s work. But there’s no point in my accumulating a collection of small crocheted hearts.

I splurged on these and must say they were absolutely worth it! Smooth and comfortable to hold, but not so slippery that stitches slide off. I’ve also used the stoppers when changing cords or needle size.

My only complaint is that there isn’t a 16” cord; I would prefer cords of different lengths rather than two of the same length.

I have never like circular needles but they are popular and more patterns are using them. I have Lykke straight needles and I love them so decided to get the same brand – they aren’t cheap however so it took me a while to go for them.

They are lovely, the needles are so smooth and changing over to a different size is very simple. Pricey, yes, but honestly they are the best needles I have used and I’ve been knitting for a very long time!.

When my Lykke Driftwood needle set arrived in the mail, I was tempted to just put them away in the cupboard – I felt they were too beautiful to actually use. Then recently I bought myself a skein of ‘special’ yarn and decided I would treat myself to using my ‘special’ needles.

Oh my! These needles are beautiful in their case (which is also beautiful) but they are much more beautiful in your hands with a special project on them. The points are smooth and easy to use, the cord, although it came out of it’s packet very curled up, had relaxed within a day and is now so easy to manipulate, it’s beefy but not stiff.

I use metric sized needles for my knitting and was so pleased that the needle size I required (3. 75mm) was there in this set. So overall, I am thrilled with my purchase of these gorgeous needles and cannot recommend them highly enough.

These have always been good in my experience. No splinters or rough spots and accurate sizing. Good for yarn that splits easily as the points are smoother and less sharp than other wood needles I’ve used.

They’re not super slippery; yarn doesn’t fall off as easily as metal or other polished wood so they’re good for my early onset arthritis and waning fine motor control thanks to chronic illness. I have found that woods like rosewood have more slip but unlike these, those tend to have more rough spots so I think it’s a good trade-off.

I love these needles. For me a large part of knitting is the tactile sensation of smooth needles and fine yarns. Paradise Fibers has been my go-to for online purchases. I have the Brittany Birch needles in various sizes and styles.

They perform well and feel great in tired hands while they do it!.

I love these and they are sturdy wood! The yarn glides over them but not that good. You need to push it along, unlike the metal needles. There are no digs in these to snag your yarn! unlike cheaper brands! They are worth EVERY penny of the cost! The tips are more pointed then some wooden needles I’ve used.

But not overly pointed. They are light in the hand to use and not heavy needles. IF the yarn glided so I didn’t need to push it along, I’d have given these a 5 star rating. ……. I am happy w/this purchase and would purchase more in other sizes if I needed them.

Was excited to try the free pattern option that Fillory offered: AIBHILIN arm warmers, only to discover that I did not have all three sizes of the required DPNs. Selected from the needles offered on line and was thrilled that with this product, each size comes in a different color.

I have such a hard time keeping track of all my different needle sizes. but not these! So far, having a great experience with the smoothness of the tips and ability to move the yarn. Satisfied customer!.

These are the BEST knitting needles! I don’t know why, but they are getting harder to find. It seems like they are no longer being made. I wanted to get this size in double pointeds before they were no longer available.

I ordered these DPNS in sizes US 10. 5 and 11. They came intact and were easy to work with right off the bat. Sometimes my hardwood needles will have a bit more drag before I break them in, but these were smooth from the start.

The only complaints I have are as follows: These DPNs to give off a slight chemical smell. The odor was stronger at first, so it does fade over time. The color that these DPNS were given is not completely even.

Most of the surface is uniform, but there are a few places where the dye wore thin. I also do not care for the way the DPN size is stamped on the needles. While this does not interfere with knitting at all, I just don’t care for the look of the bright white paint against the color of the needle.

These needles were purchased for an elderly lady who is partially sighted. Unfortunately the knitting has a tendency to fall off the back end of the needles as the stop is too small.

So far I LOVE these needles. Fun to knit with and just the right size for hats. I have used bamboo for so many years, and I must say that I like these KnitPicks needles even better. Less drag on the yarn so it seems easier and faster to knit.

The color is gorgeous too and seems to be of high quality all around. Yes I highly recommend these and wish I had other needle tip sizes. this is a very versatile set. Need to periodically check to be sure that the needle tip is firmly attached to the cord.

I am new to interchangeable and so far, I am very pleased.

These knitting needles are nicest li’l set ever! Of course they’re a little pricey, but it’s well worth it! I love the colors and feel of them! It gives me plenty to do! I saw someone use a pair of Caspian knitting needles, and that is a really pretty color! Plus, Radiant and Majestic are also really pretty colors too! These are REALLY good interchangeable needles. Firstly, the colour and look of them is great. They are really nice to hold, they feel warm to the touch and the stitches don’t slip off them too easily like with some metal/aluminium needs – good for me as I’m a fairly loose knitter, less dropped stitches.

I am a fan of Knitpro and have different types of their interchangeable needles but these are by far my favourites. They are worth paying a bit extra for.

Well, a good idea in theory, but had 2 problems. First, they were a bit short for making a throw. Because you are using a very thick yarn with them typically, it is a workout to do stitches when you have to keep squishing the yarn to fit on the needles.

And secondly, the knob end became unglued from the needle the very first hour of use. We ended up glueing and screwing the ends for more security.

Good value, but not the best quality, I don’t see these lasting too long ( the needle point is already slightly damaged) and they are heavy. Okay for small knitting projects. Hard to find good 50 mm needles.

This was the best option available.

I needed some jumbo needles to knit a blanket using the Bernat Big Blanket yarn. They may be on the heavier side but the yarn moves easily on them. I didn’t want to have blanket seams but thanks to their solid construction I was able to turn these into circular needles without spending a fortune.

I took a jig saw and cut off the block ends. Went down to the hardware store, spend a few dollars on 92 in of electrical cable. Sanded the ends so they were smooth. Drilled about 1/2 in deep hole in the center of each flat end using 3 drill bits, working up to the cable size.

The cable fit snugly but I used gorilla glue to glue the ends in. Finally wrapped with electrical tape from the wooden end down a little bit on the cable. I now have a giant circular needle for blankets and they work VERY well!.

I personally like my bamboo circular knitting needles better than my aluminum ones. I use them more than any of my other knitting needles. I have several Hiya Hiya that I love. The Chiaogoo Bamboo Circular Knitting Needles are my preferred alternative to the Hiya.

The 12″ is a great step up from the 9″ and those projects that fall short of a 16″ when knitting with lace weight these needles are easier to work with. I can get a comfortable pace going. The cord doesn’t twist up.

For me they’re a comfortable fit.

Again, measurements of needle cable are off !! The cable itself should be 12 inches. Instead this needle is 12 inches from tip to tip, making it useless for my project. The manufacturer obviously does not knit or they would understand the importance of cable lengths.

I love the bamboo needles Chiaogoo makes. However, I prefer a set of Chiaogoo needles that I have that has a covered metal cable over this plastic cable, not these with the plastic cable. I might just have to buy interchangeables to get that feature.

I’m working on a smaller project for which I just didn’t want to use any of my interchangeable sets that I have. I like the feel of the single points when I’m making something small. These Clover needles worked great! I like the lightweight bamboo.

They feel smooth and warm to the touch, and I like that they have a bit of flexibility compared to metal. They don’t feel fragile like they’ll break, but for some reason I just like that tiny bit of flex that you don’t get with metal.

They also provide just the right amount of drag for my yarn. I’ve only been knitting for about a year and a half and still appreciate that extra bit of drag to keep my pace steady and so I don’t feel any concern about my stitches slipping off the needles.

I highly recommend these, especially to beginners like me!.

I was getting frustrated with my aluminum knitting needles. The yarn would slip a lot. Metal needles have a hard feel when you’re knitting. I went to Michael’s to get a size 15 long and short knitting needles.

My hands/fingers don’t get as tired with the bamboo needles. They are lighter and have a “soft feel” to them.

I am a 50+ knitter, and when bamboo needles came out, I pretty much switched out all of my plastic/metal needles for bamboo. They are pretty perfect for any kind of yarn. I even bought a circular set with all of the needle size tips to interchange.

Best purchase I’ve ever made. These are also good for beginners. I’m a Certified Knitting Instructor for Michael’s Crafts, and I always told my students to buy bamboo, even if they were a little more expensive.

Perfect for socks, hats and other items where you need a smaller needle either to create or finish off. Ive had several sets of these needles over the years, and they never fail to disappoint. Invest in a set today, you wont regret it!.

Addi rocks. With rockets, with turbo, with bamboo. Always my go-to needle.

Good needles, bamboo always lasts. No snags. Doesn’t come apart in the middle of a row. But I bought it too short. Will need to purchase a longer one.

Since buying the Knitter’s Pride interchangeable cable needles for a project that required them, I have continued to use them for all projects. They are far easier on my arm/shoulder than straight needles & so versatile–I can connect cables for more length, & switch needle sizes whenever I want.

It’s easy to spread out a wide project to see how it really looks & behaves. These are very high quality & stay connected. I had a set with everything but a size 13, so I ordered those tips & am making a 67″ wide blanket with the 60″ & 47″ cables connected–it’s a breeze! These are Dreamz in Color & very beautiful wood.

I like that it fits easily into purse or knitting bag to go wherever I go! Can easily change out needle size. The bamboo points are smooth and create uniform stitches. Only once did the needle point unscrew and I dropped some stitches.

I make sure to screw on thightly with tool provided since that happened. I would have liked an option to have varied size cords included in kit. This kit comes with two 16 inch cords. I bought a separate kit with 5 lengths.

An option would be to have 5 cords in varying lennghts with set of needle points.

I love the cubical shape of these DPNs, as well as all of the Cubics line. They are perfect in so many ways. It’s absolutely wrong to think that the sizes don’t correspond to the same sizes in round knitting needles.

When I was asking for them in an LYS, the store clerk said they didn’t carry them because “their square shape changes your gauge. ” Nonsense! You’ll absolutely love knitting with them. The points are perfect, their shape reduces hand fatigue because of how comfortable they are to grip, they’ve got good slip but not too much, they’re sturdy and warm in the hand.

Unfortunately, I had to significantly ding them for one serious design flaw: the size number is printed on them, not engraved, so with time and much use they will wear off, and you’ll have no way of knowing what size your needles are.

As far as I know, there aren’t any needle gauges that have square holes, so you won’t be able to size them in round-holed needle gauges. If Knitter’s Pride doesn’t change the way they mark their needles, they should at least provide square-holed needle gauges with your purchase.

I’m at the level in my knitting that I can pretty well guess what size the needle is, and I’m always checking my gauge before a project by knitting a swatch anyway, but I also like to keep good notes on my completed projects.

Now my notes have things like, “size 8 I think?”.

I was skeptical at first, but after working with these needles in various sizes, I’m a huge fan. My tension is much more even, and I don’t get hand fatigue as quickly as before. I’ve tried other brands of square needles, but alway come back to these.

I love the wood, vs. metal. I also own both sets of the interchangeable tips. Highly recommend.

I love these needles. I am a beginner and was having a very hard time knitting with round, even wooden, needles. Then I got the square needles and have been doing much better and enjoying it more.

I’m a long time user of my Addi lace tip needle set. er, that is until I needed a size 15 needle which I didn’t have. Drove to Paradise Fibers to get a #15 Addi but they had stopped selling that line.

Enter ChiaoGoo! I purchased and LOVED the ChiaoGoo needles. Nice weight, easy to knit with tips and best of all, no catching on the yarn at the needle joint like with my Addi’s. I am sold! Very nice needle set.

After thinking about a new set of interchangeable needles and researching comments made by others, and thinking some more, I finally ordered the small TWIST red lace set. It was a Christmas present from me to me!! I love this addition to my knitting tools! The red cords are flexible and easy to attach.

Excellent knitting needles, the wool moves smoothly along, so pleasant to use. I prefer these to the metal and even the bamboo knitting needles as my hands don’t get sweaty with the Knit Pro needles.

They are expensive, but I am completely converted. The only down side is that there are none available below 3mm. They also come in different lengths, so are ideal for different projects ranging from small craft items to large shawls.

Total luxury using these knitting needles. KnitPro make excellent quality products. These needles are kinder to hand & wrist joints. Makes knitting so much easier, more comfortable & less ‘after pain’.

Excellent quality knitting needles. I find them easier to hold/use than plastic coated pins. The only downside and I’ve learned frm previous experience they soon snap if you sit on them as they dont bend like metal/ plastuc.

Old ones make good plant stakes though. upcycleing!!.
