20 Best Woodhaven Mouth Call (2022 Updated)

I like this call quite a lot although it’s not my favorite. Has a higher pitched raspy sound in my opinion. So far I’ve used it to reach out to farther distances but I can’t seem to get that quite with it.

I personally like the red wasp a little better for all around calling in my opinion.

This call is, undoubtedly, my favorite call AND my go-to call. has been for years. I knew the owner when he was still working out of his basement. And even though his quantity has escalated over the years, his calls have not changed.

The tape he uses is the softest tape on any call out there, home made or store bought. They last the longest, the reeds have never stuck together on me, no matter the weather. I have owned all of his mouth calls at least one time.

This call, Ive owned four or five times over the years. And the one I bought from Bass Pro has the same consistency, the same sound, and the same quality, as the call I bought from him out of his home years ago.

I purchased this mini call because I have a small mouth. It still was to big! So now my granddaughter is using it. Other than that appeared good quality.

This call absolutely elevated my calling game. As a novice turkey hunter, I had no idea that investing in a quality call like this could make such a difference. Clucks, cackles, purrs, and yelps are very easy to get with this call.

I get very realistic, detailed sounds at all volumes, and I find this call to be one of the most controllable calls I’ve come across. It’s proven itself in the field already, and the responsiveness I’ve had from toms is a huge confidence booster for me as a hunter.

If I’ve got a chance of calling a turkey in, this is the call I’m going to reach for, hands-down. I’m really impressed with Woodhaven calls. The only drawback I have about these calls in particular is the size of the tape.

The call is a little large, compared to others, and while it helps to get a good seal, hunters that have a sensitive gag reflex or a small palate may need to modify it a bit.

This is the third year I have used the Ninja Hammer. This year I bought a new one just because I left my old one in my vest and did not properly store it. My old one works fine and now I have two. I bought the Ninja Hammer for the split on the side to perform the Kee-Kee run.

Its a good all around call but the Kee-Kee is easy to preform and sounds really good.

It’s difficult to review a mouth call because the way an individual call fits your mouth is key. Having said that, I’ve been using Woodhaven mouth calls exclusively since the first run of Copperhead II’s came out.

In fact, the Copperhead II is the call that I used on every bird in my Grand Slam. Woodhaven makes great calls, period. If you were one of the people who were lucky enough to get some of the first run Copperhead II’s (they have different color latex than the ones you can buy now) then this review will make sense to you.

The Black Venom is the closest call I’ve found to the original, first run, Copperhead II. I find it easier to purr and do quiet calls on the Black Venom. If you, like me, have been disappointed with the Copperhead II’s you bought after the first batch, try this call.

I’ve been turkey hunting most of my 52 years. I use good calls. I recently had a Turkey guide in Florida that had this slate call. It was the best sounding, most quality built slate I’ve ever heard. He was able to make every call sound unreal.

He let me use it for a little while and it was just as easy for me as him. Very well worth the money, and more. I’m in the process of getting my own right now.

One of the best sounding calls I own very easy to use with a wide range of sound being able to call both soft and loud. Both strikers add there own unique sound to the call. This will be my only friction call I carry in the woods.

A+ Woodhaven.

I have used a lot of different pot type calls over the years and they are my go to call. All of the ones I have bought have been the cheaper mass produced type call, both glass and slate. I figured I would finally try one of the higher priced calls, thinking they had to be better.

I was wrong. I got the Woodhaven Legend in slate and it doesn’t sound any better than the cheap ones that are $50 cheaper. The strikers that came with it sound terrible. After some experimentation I have found a one piece Primos striker that sounds decent, but still not what I expected for the money.

nice loud raspy sound. opening day on public land. some guy walking around making owl hoots that sounded exactly like a guy making owl hoots maybe he’ll be wore out and hopefully not show in the morning.

Wood haven makes the best turkey calls! I killed a nice tom with this one last year. Love how real it sounds. Great purchase!

These are the absolute best calls I have ever used. They are the small mouth calls and I finally have diaghram mouth calls that fit my mouth properly. I usually get the full size and try to trim them to fit but it never seems to fit quite right.

These fit great rightbout of the package and have great reads and produce great sound! My go to mouth calls!.

I’ve tried several types of slate calls and this call is by far the best. It has the most realistic pitch and ease to yelp, purr, cluck and cut. I personally favor the glass type to carry sound farther and not be affected by rain or sweat compared to slate.

This is worth the investment to put yourself in the best odds.

I use pot calls almost exclusively (occasionally a box call). I have generally preferred slate, have also killed many toms over aluminum. My experience with crystal was hit or miss. As soon as I hit a note with this call (Cherry Crystal) I noticed it was different.

This call sounds as close to real life hens as I have ever heard from a call. I frequently have hens around me in deer (bow) season here in Mi. I listen and learn. This call can mimic those sounds with ease.

In particular, the purrs and clucks are perfect. Whether you can afford this call is an individual decision. I myself couldn’t without the gift cards/sale/club points, so I understand that. That said, this call sounds as close to the real thing as I have heard in 19 years of turkey hunting / calling.

I just recently purchased this call. It is my first Woodhaven pot call. As soon as it arrived I got it out to see how it would run. Of all my calls, this one is certainly one of the easiest to use that I own.

Great volume and great pitch. Runs smooth with little effort. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to my friends. Very impressed.

i purchased the Woodhaven red wasp after trying many other calls even Zink mouth call and it’s ok but the Red Wasp WoodHaven mouth call is awsome sounds great and easy to use worth the money

I’ve been hunting turkeys for 17 years and these are the best mouth calls I’ve ever used hands down. All three of them have great sound and are easy to use. I would highly recommend these calls.

I got this call just before this turkey season, and since i plan on taking a bird with a bow this year, i knew i needed a mouth call. this call sounds like a small raspy hen. it produces great, loud clucks, cuts, purrs, and yelps.

i got the hang of it after about 10 minutes of practice. great sounding call.

The call has good rasp and volume. This was the 1st mouth call that I had used to get a gobbler to walk straight into the end of my Mossberg. This call was a long time favorite amongst the selection of mouth calls made by Woodhaven.

The V3 is still one my favorites to run. It definitely won’t hurt you if had it in your turkey vest.

I usually buy 20 mouth calls a year to do all the things I want. This call is the best, most sensitive, and very controllable. Does every sound in the turkey vocabulary. I bought 2 and my hunting buddies had me order them 1 also after they heard the great sound.

This call is no doubt the best mouth call Ive ever purchased. I am a run n’ gun style hunter so I keep my load light and the best way to do that is by using a mouth call. This call has a lot of rasp that delivers clear yelps from soft clucks to loud yelps and cuts.

It does not have a very piercing sound so it doesn’t do well in extremely windy situations, so I also carry a box call with me.

This call really works. If you’ve had trouble in the past with diaphragm calls this should be your next purchase. Great fit, great sound. I would definitely buy again.

Purchase the 3-pack diaphragm mouth calls for upcoming turkey season. I have used the red wasp and the copperhead in the past. First time I’ve used the copperhead to absolutely pleased with it could not have been a better purchase should make for an excellent turkey season.

Purchase the Woodhaven triple pack for upcoming turkey season. Have used the red wasp and Copperhead in the past. This pack included the copperhead to excellent diaphragm call good raspy sound very pleased with my purchase.

I got the 3 pc set about a month ago. The Red Wasp is the best of the 3 in the set. Very raspy and true to life sound. Like a mature hen. The Copperhead II is my 2nd favorite. It has a higher pitch. And the orange Copperhead comes in 3rd with a even higher pitch.

The yelps and clucks are not that hard to achieve with practice. I’ve been doing some preseason practice on live birds in my area with great results. I called in 2 toms and a jake within 40 yards standing in the open in about 15 minutes time from my back yard.

I live in a heavily wooded area of the Pine Barrens.

The cherry box is going to produce a higher pitched call than the walnut Real Hen. I really like that the Real Hen features a one piece cherry trough style box with a matched Brazilian cherry lid. This call sends out the most realistic two tone raspy yelps.

You will find that it is great for clucks, cutts, and cackles. Even my kids are able to pick this call up and produce remarkable sounds on their first attempt. This call will cost more but you are buying a truly custom call that is not like the other mass produced, foreign made, products on the market.

This call will last you for years to come.

Don’t purchase this call until you have compared it to other calls. This call does produce realistic sounds but so do lots of other calls that have been proven in the field. Each turkey sounds a little different from the next so just because this call is named the “real hen” doesn’t mean it’s any more ”real” sounding than some other calls.

I own two of these calls simply because I found them on sale. I would encourage you to look at some Primos and Lynch calls that Cabela’s carry’s and if the WoodHaven call is what you settle on then you will know for yourself that you have gone through an elimination process and should be completely satisfied with your purchase.

I picked up a demo and thought it was one of the most consistent and best sounding calls I had used. If that ever happens to you then buy THAT call. The one I ordered is a good call but the demo was an outstanding call.

Tipical throughout the industry. I am not rating the value or quality, just the consistency, or lack of. There are a lot of calls for half the price or less with the same consistency and a good one would sound as good or better than mine.

Being new to turkey hunting (not hunting) I was informed a striker call like this would be a good learning point. Upon arrival, I opened the package and followed directions for using (including online reviews recommending to prep the slate and the striker).

I messed with this thing for over an hour and could only get a few horrible sounds. I figured, maybe because I was still new at this, I was having trouble learning. So, I took this to someone who is a very experienced turkey hunter, and he also had trouble getting this to produce any sounds.

He got a few sounds, but none worth anything. He gave me his friction call to try, and I had no problem at all using his (not sure what his was off top of my head). I stopped by another store a week before the hunt, and picked up a Primos box call.

I chalked the box up, and was producing awesome turkey sounds within a few minutes. This slate call is a lesson learned and money wasted. Not worth shipping back for a refund.

From reading other reviews, apparently the issue I’m having with the call relates to the striker. I have turkey hunted all my life and used several slate calls, all of which have worked well. Last season I lost my “favorite” slate call while hunting, therefore, I purchased the Ol’ Betsy at Cabela’s.

I have yet to get any sound out of the call, let alone one that sounds like a turkey. More like fingernails on a chalkboard!! Again, I have used Primo’s slate calls in the past and they have worked great.

However, I refuse to purchase a different striker in order to use this call. I will return it and purchase one that provides a working striker.

I experienced the same problem with the striker as another customer. It did not function at all. I inspected the striker and found that wooden end was not glued properly and was actually loose in the plastic end.

I removed the wooden end and applied glue to both the plastic and wooden parts then reassembled the components and let them dry. The striker functioned normally. Hopefully the MFG. will improve process controls to eliminate this condition.

I have used another brand of mouth call for over 30 years. It was the only call that had the sound I was looking for until I tried the Ninja Hammer. I knew this was the exact tone I wanted. Its my new go to call when I trying to bring in that nervous gobbler.

Used this call 1st day of this season called in and killed a 20lb 10 1/2 beard 1. 25 spurs , went out again 5/5 called in another turkey and killed 18lber. This call in one word is awesome. It is high quality.

It has a very nice raspy sound to it. Been hunting turkeys for 43 years, this by far is the best sounding call I have used. If you want to kill turkeys this call for you. Highly recommend.

I recently purchased the Woodhaven calls. I was looking for a mouth call with some raspy quality’s that could still hit the full spectrum of vocalizations. I found it with these calls. The reeds are a little stiff at first, but once you work them in, they make great calls.

The second day I had them saw a flock of fifteen birds in a local hay field. It was april 4th a bit early in the New England area, I decided to give one a try. After two yelp sequences and one cluck-purr I had four mature toms strutting and walking toward my truck.

I mostly have just stuck with the red rasp but overall everything I’ve gotten from Woodhaven has been a quality call
