20 Best Wool Throw Blankets (2022 Updated)

I’m not sure about this Pendleton blanket……. First off, the blanket is beautiful. It looks classy. It’s washable wool. It has a nice weight and size. But I’m not sure if I did something wrong? I follow the care instruction to do the first wash before using.

It’s still scratchy and itchy after wash. It doesn’t provide much warmth either. I was expecting it to be a cozy blanket/wrap. Hopefully, it will soften up after a few more washes.

We go camping A LOT, and I found that sitting around the campfire using a polyester blanket or down coat is not the safest option when sparks fly! Our favorite camping friends had just recently purchased their own washable wool Pendleton blankets to wrap around themselves and/or cover their legs while sitting around the campfire.

They wanted something to help stay warm without having to worry as much about sparks from the fire. Since wool is naturally fire resistant, my friends looked for a durable, machine-washable wool blanket and found Pendleton.

My friend had me sold on Pendleton when she said that their new blankets helped keep them much warmer, that the blankets are more fire resistant than most almost all other fabrics, and that they are machine washable.

I also really like the fact that Pendleton is a U. S. company and that they are committed to being eco-conscious. I ordered my Pendleton washable wool blanket almost as soon as we got home from that camping trip and it is exactly what I hoped for! I love all of the colors and patterns to choose from and the fact that these blankets are machine washable.

This blanket has been my favorite thing to bring camping and I am definitely a new fan of Pendleton products! I look forward to slowly expanding my collection of wool blankets and clothing and I highly recommend these blankets to anyone who wants to stay warm around the campfire!.

This washable wool throw is a must for anyone with pets! It seemed too good to be true, but it really does it all: incredibly warm, washes well, and gets softer with time. I also love that the neutral pattern can work in any room’s decor.

Absolute dream! After being envious of my lil one’s blankets and sleep sack, i was excited for this (even though it’s not the sane feel/material) Initially ordered the queen for use in addition to our comforter but hubs wasn’t interested so swapped it for a twin for use on my side only.

it’s been glorious! My body temp goes up while sleeping so the down comforter can get too warm but now i just kick off the comforter and this blanket does the job and regulates my temp. Hubs is now envious and tries to ‘steal’ it.

Too bad! Woolino customer service was great, to boot!.

Love this blanket! I have two toddler blankets for my 1. 5yr old and I often use the one she’s not using to throw over my lap. I even emailed Woolino asking if they’d come out with an adult size! I was thrilled to see they came out with these wool blankets for adults.

I bought the queen size and it’s wonderful, very warm and soft. I’d still love to see them come out with a queen size blanket in the same material as the sleep sack/toddler blankets, but for now, I’m very happy with this!.

My daughter has a woolino sleep sack and a toddler blanket, and quite frankly I was jealous! So I bought myself this bed blanket. It is not lined like the toddler items, but it is still much softer than normal wool.

I was also worried about how light it is, but I slept SO well last night! I couldn’t be happier with the purchase and would not hesitate to buy one again.

This is the third pendleton blanket I’ve purchased. I was concerned when it showed up and it wasn’t as thick as the wildland firefighters blanket or the glacier park national parks blanket. This site doesn’t give a very detailed description, so if you’re looking for a thicker, more combed finish, do your research.

I got the star watchers blanket and its amazing, but a lot thinner than I would have liked. Again, that goes by doing research on what you’re buying because it is an investment that can be passed down to your children, and so forth if you follow the care instructions.

Still deciding if I like the combed or uncombed feel. Otherwise, beautiful and something to use for cold nights.

This was my first time buying the blanket! Everything is perfect! Quality is excellent, delivery is on time, good deal as well! Definitely will come back to buy more stuff. I am giving this blanket for a Christmas gift so hopefully he’ll love it!.

I purchased a Pendleton specialty blanket for my daughter to replace the one her dog ate Moose Jaw had the best price and I loved the customer service and approach. I will shop here again. You are a business with a sparkling attitude that made my day.

Absolutely lovely throw. Now have three of them by Bronte by Moon. Expensive but very warm and soft and the Saffron colour was a soft orange. Couldn’t find another throw in this sort of colour. Good for winter as very warm and use it to throw over my cream sofa as a pop of colour for the winter months.

I love to buy British made if I possibly can.

I love this blanket. It was my first purchase from Biddy Murphy so I was understandably reluctant to order something so expensive without seeing it first. It is wonderfully soft, the perfect weight (not too light, not too heavy), clearly extremely well made.

The colors are more muted than they were on my computer but I like them just as well if not better. Thank you!.

I purchased the gold, rust, grey blanket. The picture on the website shows a vivid yellow. The actual color is a more muted camel. At first I was disappointed, but then realized it is quite beautiful and very soft and comfortable.

It was a gift for my son and he loves the blanket.

This blanket was high quality and beautifully made. The colors just didn’t go well in my home and husband lost job. Maybe I’ll get another color n the fall.

I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review. This is probably one of the softest wool items I’ve ever felt, but it’s wool, so it’s never going to be super soft like some synthetic textiles on the market today.

It’s lightweight and really does feel appropriate for all seasons with its magical temperature regulating abilities. It’s very pretty and well made. I thought I had received a gray, but the tag says blue.

and it’s honestly kind of a medium grayish dark periwinkle color. It’s very pretty, but up against a true gray it’s definitely blue-ish, and up against blue, it looks more gray. The only significant concern I have is that it’s dry clean/spot clean only, and with three dogs and a cat in the house, we wash our outer bedding at least once a month (sheets weekly), so this really isn’t a realistic thing for us.

Just food for thought as you consider purchasing this.

Ordered this right after thanksgiving to make sure it got to my friend before Christmas. It still hasn’t arrived. I’ve reached out to support and now I’m being ignored. I was told that if it didn’t show up they would send a new one but didn’t want to use up all that carbon on the shipping process.

The tracking shows the package has arrived in the local station, taken multiple trips away, has been delivered, retrieved, and has taken a few more trips. Just think of all that carbon. I bought my first puffy and loved it so much I bought a 2nd one for my nephew and a fleece Sherpa for myself.

I bought a flannel one when I bought this wool one with the intent of our purchasing another. My friend Tommy Sixx liked mine (except the rainbow fade) so much he went a purchased a more heteronormative one.

Then he bought one for his girl friend and they are buying another for the holidays. My friend Kaleb bought one for his girl friend, a national parks pattern, my work mate bought one for his son and one for his mother.

His mother has now bought 2 for her grand daughters. Maybe that smart company makes blankets and will provide more support after purchase. I really like the blankets, can’t really say anything bad about them.

But this experience has soured my opinion.

I just got this blanket as a gift, and it’s absolutely gorgeous! I’m a fan of merino wool, and this blanket is just so soft and warm. I can’t believe how plush it is! I have it in the queen size, and it’s a great fit.

There’s even a little pocket inside for your phone or keys. The piping around the edge is nice and thick, and the colors are gorgeous. I’m so in love with it.

I absolutely love my throw! The Terracotta color is exactly as pictured. I was worried the wool would feel scratchy, so I was pleasantly surprised at its soft texture. This throw has kept the chill off of many brisk nights in my camper as well as coy winter nights on the couch at home.

The only thing that would make it better is if were machine washable.

I purchased these blankets as gifts for my grandmother, aunt and mom in honor of my grandfather (Wallace) who recently passed. They arrived so quickly from Scotland to the US and I was so impressed with how beautifully made they are.

They’re thick, warm and a gorgeous deep, rich red. I am already headed back to buy more for the rest of my family. Thank you so much, we will cherish them forever!.

It was very reasonably priced. When it arrived it had a very strong chemical smell so, despite the label saying ‘dry clean only’ I washed it on the delicate wash of my washing machine. I don’t think it has shrunk and now smells sweetly divine and wool-like.

It is a lovely colour and very warm.

I already reviewed this product but since it doesn’t appear to have posted for some reason, here we go again: This is tremendous value. I purchased two of them (an Autumnal Buchanan and a Douglas plaid) and one was a gift.

These blankets are thick and warm and make great picnic blankets or for layering and extra warmth anytime. I highly recommend them! Shipping was super fast even though it came from overseas.

I bought this blanket to use for traditional style camping, and have waited to write a review until I had taken it out and tried it in that role. I did a lot of research and put a lot of thought into choosing and buying a blanket for this role and will try and convey my thought process, theory and practical use.

Before taking it out I had been using it indoors on my bed to get a feel for it and let me say that it might be overkill for use in a modern home especially if you have good insulation and central air(which is not what I bought it for and given the name seemingly not really the intention of it’s design) but it is still entirely usable and comfortable in that use case, but I think the aptly named cabin blanket would be better for indoor use.

However for camping it excels, I don’t really like sleeping bags and have wanted to get a good blanket for a long while and this is exactly what I have been looking for. I notice a lot of reviews online focus on other blankets made by Faribault or Pendleton or other companies that either outsource their labor or do not use 100% wool, both of which are deal breakers to me.

Given the weight I think a lot of people focus on more affordable, lighter blankets, which causes a lot of reviews to focus in Faribault vs Pendleton; this queen size blanket is the only one from either company that gets close to the ~10lb, that was historically preferred, as heavier blankets were considered superior.

This is reflected in my experience using it by itself, with no fire over a night that reached the mid 40’s. Anywhere that was covered by or touching this wool blanket was extremely comfortable and I could likely use it this way into much lower temperatures probably to around freezing comfortably.

I think sub freezing would require a steady fire and/or another blanket or the use of a fresh dry wool base layer, but it is a rare occurrence that we see sub freezing temperatures where I live unless you are in the mountains.

If I get a chance I will update my review as I try it in various kinds of weather, perhaps I will take it into the mountains this winter. It is possible, although I have not tested it yet, that in the summer you could get over heated if you use this blanket, in which case the lakefront or cabin blanket might be a better option.

I believe the price is justified given the weight and quality, my grandchildren’s, grandchildren will likely be using this blanket long after I am gone and I won’t have to buy another blanket to replace this one.

In regards to more affordable blankets, this is roughly equivalent to 2 cabin or lakefront blankets in terms of weight which makes it more cost effective to buy this one instead of two blankets. Although two lighter blankets can be warmer if used correctly, I think the thickness of this blanket would probably do an equivalent job of trapping air.

I do not have one to compare against but intend to buy a cabin blanket to replace my well worn hand me down comforter on my bed. That being said my experience has led me to the conclusion that historically heavier blankets were preferred for practical reasons and this is the only blanket on the market that is in the ball park of the size and weight of historical 4 point blankets used by trappers and frontiersmen.

A part of me does wish that this came in solid earth tone colors since they stand out less in the woods, although in person the colored stripes on the olive color option does not stand out as much as one would think based on the online pictures in that the stripes are less solid (the stripes themselves are made up of diagonal stripes), in my opinion this is a pro and reflects the build quality and attention to detail put into this blanket.

This does have the tendency to pick up small leaves, pine needles, various tiny seeds and moss but it is easy enough to brush off and does not cause any damage, fraying, felting or wear on the blanket, and could be entirely mitigated by using an enclosed tent and/or larger ground cloth, but it is not really an issue to me.

I am entirely satisfied with my purchase and spent a lot of time deliberating on whether this or that blanket would be better or “good enough” you cannot go wrong picking this blanket as there is no one blanket right now that is “just as good” because there is no other blanket that has the same weight.

What sold me on this blanket was the heavy weight and craftsmanship of the blanket. With the HBC point blankets, one can see light through the blanket when held up against a light source–not so with the Frontier blanket.

However, areas of concern of the Frontier blanket (or where this blanket may have deficiencies) are the blanket’s closed stitching and lack of “Fill Power” (or loft). The closed stitching is super fine and dense and I am wondering if that is where a good measurable percentage of the weight of the blanket comes from rather than from the actual wool.

And it appears that the thread used for the closed stitching may not be wool? I’d prefer the thicker wool thread for the closed stitching but this isn’t a deal breaker for me. The HBC point blanket uses thick wool thread for its closed stitching and it isn’t as densely stitched and as a result the newly unpacked HBC blanket I received already shows signs of fraying on the edges–not cool.

So winner here is the Frontier blanket. On to the more critical part, the lack of fill power or loft. This Frontier blanket is soft and doesn’t itch. However, compared to the HBC point blanket, the Frontier isn’t as soft or lofty.

Again not a deal breaker as I would think this loftiness comes from the processing of the wool fibers during manufacturing and that both blankets have roughly the same amount of wool (per inch) but the Frontier may not have spent a lot or any time on the lofting machine/station.

But in the end, I went with the Frontier as it was heavier seemed more dense, given the lack of light that shines through it, and I’d take a denser blanket in leu of a softer blanket any day of the year–[more so during the Winter days : ) ] My Frontier queen blanket weighs 10 pounds (actually 10 pounds and 4 ounces on my kitchen scale–with included plastic bag) compared to the HBC point (6 point/queen) blanket of 7 pounds 11 ounces (also with shipped plastic bag included).

These both were weighed straight out of their shipping box sent from the respective manufacturers. So this difference is weight comes back to the closed stitching on the Frontier blanket. Could that have accounted for the difference of 2 1/2 pounds between the two queen sized blankets? Not sure and don’t think so but in the end I have a heavier blanket with less fraying on the edges that should last a couple of generations or more.

FYI- I sent back my HBC 6 point blanket and kept the Frontier.

I pulled the trigger on this blanket about 2 years ago when it was called the ‘Revival’ blanket. Like others, I was hesitant to buy because of the cost but figured because of that steep price tag that it had to be a quality blanket.

And boy oh boy, is it one AWESOME blanket! You are definitely getting what you pay for with this blanket. Best of all, it’s made in the USA! The blanket is soft, not scratchy at all and it is HEAVY at 9 lbs! (Queen size) With its hefty weight you would think it would be too heavy on your body but it isn’t whatsoever.

It’s a nice, comfortable weight. The blanket is also very generous in size, with plenty of blanket to hang over the sides of the bed. It’s also one good looking blanket and I can’t get myself to put it underneath a comforter.

I’m in sunny California so with our mild Winters, it’s plenty warm enough as a comforter accompanied with some heavy flannel sheets and in Summer, with some crisp cotton sheets. All in all, I LOVE this blanket and know it will probably outlive me.

The kids will fight over this one when I’m gone.

Material and packaging are very high quality and made in Germany. Unfortunately, the ceiling looks a bit gloomy. Fits perfectly to black leather and dark wood (so to the classic Eames Lounge Chair); for the Vitra Grand Repos in felt fabric, e.

This blanket is cuddly soft and looks great. A beautiful design. Fits every interior style. I think everything about Vitra is absolutely beautiful.

Very good quality, drapes well and is nice and wide for a double bed. The colour works well with the Hugo Boss mid grey bedding and white walls of my bedroom. I would recommend it as I think the colour would work well with many other colours.

The Tayo Throw – Nairobi pattern practically shimmers. The texture is soft and the fabric has nice pliancy. I love the color combination in earth tones that almost have a metal and gold look. The pattern and weave is also interesting.

The edges are double selvage (a decorative selvage and a finely sewn selvage). It’s a perfect fit for my living room and the quality is undeniably good.

I am a fan of Faribault’s throws for so many reasons, and this one was even better than I expected. The colors are muted shades of grey & beige, so not as vivid a contrast as my computer screen displays, but nice neutral colors that would fit many decors.

I was pleasantly surprised by how thick and cushy and soft the throw is. We will enjoy to this cozy addition to the sofa this winter!.

Purchased Nairobi Throw and it’s BEAUTIFUL, but VERY different color than appears on the website and catalog. Appears more mustard online and in catalog, but cream in person. Works for me!

This seems to be a great blanket and it’s a good price for a Pendleton. It has been keeping me nice and warm as the winter weather approaches. I haven’t washed mine yet, so no report on how that works out.

My only complaint is the monogram: whatever stabilizer they used for the embroidery, it wasn’t entirely torn out and so some day soon, I’m going to need to tackle cutting it out with very small scissors, I guess.

So I wish it had been finished better.

I love it so much! It’s lightweight yet very warm. It washes well and doesn’t have any weird smell. I used Woolite. It is a little rough but that’s what you get if you want a really quality wool blanket that doesn’t shed like crazy.

If it’s never directly on your skin it shouldn’t be an issue. I absolutely love it!.

I bought this in the medium grey plaid color option and was thrilled at the thought of having a washable wool throw this fall/winter to keep me cozy. I prefer natural fabrics but handwashing items can be laborious and sometimes the hand wash/delicates function on the washing machine still results in shrinkage.

This throw is well made but very scratchy out of the package. The instructions say to wash for a softer feel, which I did using the delicates cycle on my front-load washer. 35 minutes later it emerged as it had gone in: more or less the same size, but also still scratchy.

I considered returning it but since I already washed it using a cedar-scented wool wash I think I’ll keep it and hope that it’ll get softer with time. I originally planned on ordering the blue/white buffalo check color option as well, but after feeling this throw I’ve changed my mind.

I have wanted this blanket for quite some time and finally purchased it. I have a queen bed and purchased the king size in case of shrinkage. I washed it on cool and dried it on low heat. It shrank to a perfect queen size.

I would recommend sizing up one size above your bed size. I put it on my bed last night and sleeping under it was divine. It is so soft that I gathered it around my face and reveled in its warmth with no scratchiness at all.

It is the perfect weight and paired with my Coyuchi Topanga Matelasse blanket (which I also LOVE) kept me warm and comfortable. It’s the perfect in-between-seasons blanket and would be fantastic paired with a comforter if you live in a cold climate.

The quality and ethics of Coyuchi products are unparalleled in the textile industry in my opinion. This blanket is no exception. It is a rich, textured color (I purchased grey) with an exceptional softness and feel.

I cannot recommend it highly enough and am so glad I finally bought it.

I already have 2 of these (natural and blue) and we all battle for the throw every evening. So I had to get another one (the light brown one). The colors are beautiful, the blanket is soft and is warm.

If feels like the natural fibers adjust the warmth. I’m never too hot nor too cold. It’s easy to wash (I use a wool safe detergent) and air dry. These are definite keepers. I’ve had the older 2 throws for years and they look just as new as the new one that I just bought.

The quality is great.

As a Sustainability professor of many years, i hunt far and wide for better products and advise local politicos and boards. Altho my blanket is lovely , i thought long and hard about the reality of this product after reading the label in light of and how u all market it and im not thrilled.

This really isnt a sustainable product. Cotton grown in India, shipped to Germany than SF than me? And the quantity of organic or recycled fibers isnt so terrific. Kind of misleading folks. Cant u do better?.

Lovely soft blanket, which will be used for years to come. I also really appreciate the inclusion of a piling comb, which was a nice touch to an otherwise great product.

This was an early additional Christmas present for my wife — well, for myself too, really, but I haven’t been given a single opportunity to try it out. My wife loves it and uses it every day/evening.

Less expensive throws can be found but whether they compare favourably with this one is another matter. It really is of lovely quality and my wife says it is wonderfully warm. I wouldn’t know.

I was worried this would be too rough or scratchy after reading other reviews but it is lovely and soft. Wool is a natural material and will never be as soft as some synthetic materials. I use it as a throw on my bed and because it is natural it keeps me super warm.

The “avocado” colour is a slightly darker green than I was expecting.

Fantastic blanket. You literally do not want to come out from under it because it creates such a comfortable and perfect warmth. We’ve had other blankets: fleece, cashmir, “normal” wool, and this is beyond any doubt the best.

(and yet not the most expensive we’ve had).
